The best of Kerala in 9 days with idyllic houseboat and relax

As the only person booked on the tour (wasted single supp) it effectively became a private tour. It was a good way to see a lot of Kerala in a relatively short without the hassle of organising everything yourself. However I normally travel on my own, making my own bookings so in some ways it was less enjoyable having no choice. But everything is a trade off. My 3'drivers, Nelson John and Muni were very pleasant and helpful though there were some language difficulties. In the way the hotels were comfortable and the houseboat was great. The best bits were being up in the hills, the houseboat and Kovalam.. The worst bits were the long days in the back of a car, the trips on the visit to the tip of India, too crowded and borimg and the hotel near Munnar. It was effectively closed, I was the only guest, the dinner choice was v limited (and in the country so no other options) and there's was no hot water. The staff were lovely but being the sole guest is slightly creepy. However, overall I enjoyed it and Kerala is a wonderful place to visit.

Kerala the most southwestern state in India is amazing. Arabian Sea beaches and backwaters to beautiful mountainous inland regions. Dijeesh our driver was excellent, always ready to adapt to our wishes. Instead of the boat trip in the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary I would recommend one of the nature walks. Kerala is a really beautiful area to visit and this tour gives you the highlight without having to worry about how to get around or where to stay. Our driver was excellent, really gentle and caring with a calm approach to traffic. He had great knowledge of the area and was repared to answer any random questions we threw at him. The tour company were on call if you needed them and Manish was available to deal with any issues. He was keen to know the tour was going well and we were having a good time. The local guides were really knowledgable and relaxed. The jeep ride was much more fun than we thought it would be and the day on the houseboat was really chilled and provided an oportunity to relax. Be prepared for a lot of time in the car, but the scenery makes it worth it!

For all the services contracted, a certain advance payment should be made to hold the booking, on a confirmed basis & the balance amount can be paid before your departure from your country or after your arrival to India as mutually decided between team management and guests. Management personnel hold the right to decide upon the amount to be paid as advance payment, based on the nature of the service & the time left for the commencement of the service. Mode of Payment for FIT (Frequent Individual Travelers):

• 30% of the amount-confirmation of the order
• 70% of the amount – Day 1 of the tour.

• 50% of the amount – confirmation of the order
• 50% of the amount – One month earlier of the tour starting date.

Cancellation Policy

In the event of cancellation of tour / travel services due to any avoidable / unavoidable reasons we must be notified of the same in writing. Cancellation charges will be effective from the date we receive advice in writing, and cancellation charges would be as follows:

• 75 days to 60 days preceding the starting date of tour: NO RETENTION will be charged.
• 60 days to 45 days preceding the starting date of tour: 30% of package cost will be charged as Retention.
• 45-35 days preceding the starting date of tour: 50% of package cost will be charged as Retention.
• 35-0 days preceding the starting date of tour: 100% of package cost will be charged as retention.

In case of special trains journeys and peak season hotel bookings a separate cancellation policy is applicable (which can be advised as and when required). For flight tickets cancellation, airlines cancellation policy will be applicable.

I wish to sincerely thank Len for his amazing care, good cheer and flexibility ! Len has that great combination of simultaneous organisation and flexibility, which is so very necessary on a small trip such as this. In his stride, he was able to re-design the program at short notice due to weather conditions (working closely with Drakpa) and the end result was better than the original plan in my opinion!!! It was clear from day one, that Len cared and payed attention to each and every one of us at every step of the way – going out of his way to assist those who needed it. The trust and camaraderie we developed with Len made the trip that much more special! I miss our laughs.

Loved: National Institute of traditional medicine hike to Wanyditse Goemba Punakha festival – definitely a highlight Hanging the prayer flags at the pass! The outdoor picnics! Archery competition! Dumtse Lhakhang – went to heaven!!! Dzong Drak Kha (mini tigers nest) amazing views and climb Sanga Choekor Shedra (Bhuddist College) Drakpa and his team (Nima and Karma) were just amazing. Drakpa was very knowledgeable, friendly, caring and cheerful. He went out of his way to provide us with information and experiences to help our understanding of the culture and religion, he was funny and entertaining and very professional under pressure.Nima was a very competent driver, and I have never felt in safer hands in the difficult driving conditions we were in.

If you’re on an Odyssey tour, we take care of tipping so you don’t need to give it a second thought. However, in your free time, or if travelling independently, it’s essential that you make sure you tip an appropriate amount for services. Most of the time, especially in large restaurants, a service charge or gratuity is already included in the bill. If not, it is fine to tip 10% of the total cost of the bill. If you want to make sure they do receive the money, it is best to give it to the staff directly or leave small change on the table. Tipping at hotels can be confusing at times. It is customary to tip service providers at hotels. It is also best to give bellboys a small gratuity of around 20-50 (about $1.00) rupees per bag. Do not allow someone to grab your bags if you do not want to tip them. A small tip for housekeeping is also perfectly acceptable.

Is travel to India safe?

Yes. However, heed the Australian government advice to “ exercise a high degree of caution” . Do not travel to the cities of Srinagar and Jammu along with other parts of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, and reconsider your need to travel to some regions of India listed because of safety and security issues. Odyssey Traveller follows government travel advice and our tours in India do not venture into these areas.

Can I use my mobile/cell phone while in India?

Check with your cell phone provider to see whether you’re able to make calls and use data while in India. Many providers will offer a daily fee that allows you to make calls and check the internet while only being charged your regular rates. However, be certain to inform your provider that you’re heading overseas, because just like a bank they can turn off your service as a result of unusual activity.

• Consider contacting your bank to inform them that you may be making purchases overseas. Otherwise, they may flag any activity on your account as suspicious. Also, check which ATMs and banks are compatible with your cards, to ensure you can withdraw cash with minimal fees.
• Before departing, make sure you have a number of Rupee in a range of denominations. You don’t want to be carrying around enormous amounts of cash, but take enough to make it easy to pay in locations that might not accept credit card. It will also help you avoid card transaction fees, and it makes tipping a breeze.

I have an opportunity to go to Ranthambore safari with Phurr travel group it was an amazing experience. Mr. Gaurav Kumar is a great organiser. Back from a lovely trip with unknown people. At first I had some apprehensions bcoz I had found this group on Facebook and I had shortlisted it as it was budget friendly. My daughter encouraged me so I took the leap of faith and now I thank god for that!! Gaurav became a friend a travel buddy in couple of hrs...very caring but also at times giving that extra push so that no one miss anything that will be regretted afterwards. He even took care to keep us entertained by playing tambola and antakshari after the day tour when everyone seemed to be engaged in their mobile. Review time! So it started with my mother coming across this page “Phurr” which is a travel group for 45 + people. She wanted to try this as she always wishes to travel and explore places but somehow the timing never matched with our schedule. However what made her more interested was that the trips were very budget friendly (to take that risk of even if it does not go well its fine!). I must say I was very much apprehensive about whether she will enjoy and most importantly if she would be comfortable, would there be someone to help in those small needs when you travel at that age, will there be someone to assist her with the luggage etc during the journey, how will she commute from the station to hotel, what if the hotels and activities mentioned in the itinerary does not match to the actual, etc and etc. Even so I took details of all the hotel reservations and contact numbers before her trip started but none of them was of any use..all thanks to Gaurav! As soon as my mother boarded the train he was in touch with her. Even so he figured out that the train was running late much before even I did. He was there on the station waiting for her and I knew that I can worry less with such a great start. Also my mother was amazed with all the arrangements, the hotels was exactly as mentioned in the itinerary. Also there were so many activities, games involved in between the sight seeings that she had a lot of fun along with the other group members. So much so, that she had no time to even call me or talk to me much during the trip. She mentioned that Gaurav was an awesome travel buddy and ensured each member is having fun always. Phurr... the name itself describes it all and when you want to Phurr from your daily chaos and worries, you want to spend time in comfort and enjoyable state. Gaurav, my perception about group tours has completely changed. Never expected such a tremendous fulfilment of dreams of having such like-minded friends in my maiden group travel. Hey it's my 2nd trip with Phurr this year, the first being Gujarat trip in Jan and the 2nd to the recently concluded Rajasthan tour. Both the trips were more vibrant and delightful than the places visited because of one and only major factor that is the gallant, efficient, sensitive and caring Travel Buddy Gaurav Kumar. Excellent trip to Bhutan covering Thimphu, Punakha & Paro - two days each. It was a well-designed executed tour by Gaurav for 10 group members, 7 of them senior citizens. All arrangements including air tickets, food, travel by Toyota was excellent - kudos to Gaurav! Leh had been on my bucket list for a long time. A message from Gaurav from Phurr Travels on Facebook came as god sent. I have to admit that it was a very comfortable and enjoyable trip. Right from the welcome at IGI airport till the warm bye-bye hug on my return everything was well planned. The hotel, the camps, the food, the car drivers, everything was just perfect. The tour conducted for Meghalaya and Assam by Phurr travel group was just rocking and no stone unturned in terms of facilities and arrangements.
