Serbia bike tours.

Land-locked Serbia is far off the tourist trail, and intrepid travelers will find a mix of centuries-old traditions and cultures—including Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian–that persist strongly to this day.

One of the country’s highlights is Đerdap National Park with its massive cliffs—some topping 1,500 feet—undulating for more than 60 miles along the Danube through the Iron Gates Gorge. The EuroVelo 6 route—and the incredible scenery—make the area a popular draw for cyclists.

The Danube meets the Sava River in Belgrade, a capital city both showing elements of its proud past and often gritty present and making its way toward a more optimistic future.

“We would change nothing about this tour. We loved every minute of it. Everything was as expected, no unexpected surprises. The bikes, routes, optional tours, food, and accommodations were excellent. The staff was wonderful, so helpful and friendly. We would recommend this tour to anyone who is considering doing this type of tour.”

Our visit to Serbia was perfect. Our Guide/Driver was Marko and he was excellent, always arrived before meeting timings, very knowledgeable on all aspects of the place we visited and gave us some good advice on local matters. The hotels and food were very good too. Pickup and drop off from the airport were well managed. Overall it was another successful trip arranged by Tour Rader and the operator. New Belgrade By Bike: A Cycling Tour of Serbia’s Capital

Belgrade revolves around Stari Grad, its endearing old town—but did you know there are two more ‘faces’ to Serbia’s capital city? Curious to learn more about New Belgrade and Zemun, we joined an iBike Belgrade tour for a history lesson on two wheels.

Transparency: We were guests of iBike Belgrade on our cycling tour in March 2019. As always, all opinions and recommendations are my own.

Please note: This post contains affiliate links, meaning I may earn a commission if you make a purchase by clicking a link (at no extra cost to you). Learn more.

“H e who was lucky enough to wake up this morning in Belgrade shouldn’t ask for anything more in life. More than that would be immodest.” And with that, our cycling tour of New Belgrade was over.

Our guide, Oggy, borrowed his parting words from Serbian journalist and broadcaster, Duško Radović. It was a poignant finish to our Riverside Tour of Belgrade . For all the tumult, chaos and upheaval the city has been through, a message beckons tourists to the former capital of Yugoslavia: Belgrade will never be perfect, but it will never be boring.

Read more: My 7-day Northern Serbia itinerary.

A review of our iBike Belgrade tour experience, and why you should consider taking a cycling tour of New Belgrade and Zemun.

I don’t think I’ve ever visited a city as complex and difficult to grasp as Belgrade. Over its history, Belgrade has been flattened and rebuilt 40 times, and has served as the capital of no less than 10 different states. It takes real talent and patience to be able to condense the history of Belgrade into a digestible format. Oggy, our iBike Belgrade tour guide, was apparently born for the job.

Not surprising for a city with so much going on, Belgrade is huge in geographical terms as well. With our bicycles, we covered more ground in three hours than we could have ever hoped to conquer on foot. Getting out of the Old City also gave us a taste of Belgrade’s less touristic side, and a better feel for the local culture and rituals of daily life.

A review of our iBike Belgrade tour experience, and why you should consider taking a cycling tour of New Belgrade and Zemun.

Our iBike Belgrade tour centred on the confluence of the rivers Sava and Danube—really the heart of the city itself. Belgrade is the only European capital that has access to two major rivers, which has turned out to be both a blessing and a curse.

Strategically located at the point where Central Europe and the Panonnian Plain meets the Balkan Peninsular, Belgrade and Serbia have served as a borderline between empires, territories and cultures for eons. The same geography that allowed Belgrade to prosper also made it vulnerable to invading forces.

Belgrade’s twin rivers, arms outstretched, embrace in the northwest corner of the city, under the watchful eye of Belgrade Fortress. Savamala, one of the oldest neighbourhoods, winds south from the fortress along the Sava, eventually leading to the train station.

A review of our iBike Belgrade tour experience, and why you should consider taking a cycling tour of New Belgrade and Zemun.

This is where our iBike Belgrade tour begins. Now crowded with historic facades, warehouses and homes, it’s difficult to picture Savamala as the boggy marshland it once was. In recent years, Savamala has flourished as a cultural hub. A lot of Belgrade’s best street art is concentrated around Savamala, along with cafes, galleries, and independent cultural spaces.

serbia cycle tours

We arrived early so we could admire some of the murals and grab a coffee. And we’re glad we did, since Savamala’s days might be numbered. Sadly, the area is facing an unknown future: A controversial urban renewal project has already catalysed many changes in the neighbourhood (including the relocation of the train station and soon, the bus station), and even Savamala’s historic buildings are under threat.

A review of our iBike Belgrade tour experience, and why you should consider taking a cycling tour of New Belgrade and Zemun.

The other side of Belgrade

With our bikes in hand, we bid Old Belgrade farewell and crossed into New Belgrade. The Brankov Most (Brankov’s Bridge) is the main artery over the Sava and was built on the foundations of one of Belgrade’s oldest bridges.

As we waited for the bicycle lift (the only one in Belgrade) to deliver us from street level, we heard the incredible story of how Brankov Most outlasted the war. In the face of NATO bombing, residents of Savamala and other parts of Belgrade turned out to line the bridge, creating a human shield.

Unlike in Serbia’s northern Vojvodina Province and cities such as Novi Sad where cycling is the norm, bike riding is not as popular in Belgrade. For a start, the capital is hillier, but it also lacks infrastructure. With Oggy leading the way to the best bike paths and quietest streets, we managed to have a smooth cycle.

A review of our iBike Belgrade tour experience, and why you should consider taking a cycling tour of New Belgrade and Zemun.

Forgotten chapters

Following the river south, our first stop in New Belgrade was the beastly Staro Sajmiste. The semi-abandoned concrete tower was built in the interwar period as part of a fair ground that was supposed to showcase diversity by bringing together different cultures and ethnicities to display and trade local products. Just a few years after it was completed, however, it was co-opted and used as a watchtower for the Sajmište concentration camp.

An estimated 23,000 people lost their lives on this site in New Belgrade. Most of the camp structures were dismantled after 1945, but the tower was left behind.

A review of our iBike Belgrade tour experience, and why you should consider taking a cycling tour of New Belgrade and Zemun.

No one dares to touch Staro Sajmiste lest it inflame old wounds, so the land remains empty and the tower derelict. A small memorial plaque behind a restaurant on the opposite side of the road is all that’s left to answer the question: ‘What happened here?’

A review of our iBike Belgrade tour experience, and why you should consider taking a cycling tour of New Belgrade and Zemun.

Coca-Cola Communism & Yugo-Nostalgia

As we continued cycling, we noticed the landscape change immediately. Buildings became more sparse; roads and pathways widened; empty green spaces opened up. Concrete apartments clustered into numbered ‘Bloks’, each designed to be self-sustaining, rise and fall at every perfectly measured intersection of gridded roads. Hulking socialistic buildings loom, each one casting a cold shadow.

This is New Belgrade in a nutshell.

A review of our iBike Belgrade tour experience, and why you should consider taking a cycling tour of New Belgrade and Zemun.

Granted this isn’t the part of Belgrade most tourists are attracted to, it is the perfect place to learn more about the history of Yugoslavia. Facing the Palata Srbija square on, we discussed ‘Coca-Cola Communism’ (a nickname given to the system in Yugoslavia because it was apparently far less restrictive than in the USSR), and ‘Yugo-Nostalgia’, a not-so-rare sentimentality for days past.

The Palata Srbija was constructed as a seat for the Yugoslavian Presidency. Inside, rooms for the six republics were designed with floor space proportional to each state’s territory. Along with the adjacent Ušće Tower, former Communist Party headquarters, and the Hotel Yugoslavia, Palata Srbija was meant to be part of Belgrade’s grandest ensemble of public buildings.

The death of the Yugoslavian leader and the changes it precipitated meant the buildings never really lived up to their intended function or reputation. Unlike Belgrade’s Avala Tower which has become something of a community space and tourist landmark, Palata Srbija and the other buildings in the area are phantoms and no-go areas.

Zemun: A village swallowed by a city

It’s incredible that through all this flux, pockets of Belgrade have endured relatively unscathed. Zemun, a fishing community on the Danube that was later incorporated into Belgrade, is quite literally a village that was swallowed up by the city.

Pulling into Zemun after a long ride along the waterfront, you would have been forgiven for thinking it was a Sunday afternoon and not a Wednesday morning. Zemun looks and feels more like a medieval town in Transylvania than a suburb of the biggest city in the Balkans. All residents, it seemed, were out in the square sipping coffee or shopping at the market, drinking in the first rays of spring sunshine.

This third ‘face’ of the city is another totally unique area we would have overlooked had it not been for our iBike Belgrade tour.

serbia cycle tours

Before we headed back over the river to Savamala, we stopped at one of the cafes on the Danube waterfront so that Oggy could give us some pointers about other things to see and do in Belgrade .

A review of our iBike Belgrade tour experience, and why you should consider taking a cycling tour of New Belgrade and Zemun.

What you can expect from an iBike Belgrade tour

  • In-depth, objective information. iBike guides are all locals or long-time residents of Belgrade who know the city and its history inside out.
  • A safe and enjoyable ride. Belgrade is relatively bike friendly, with cycling paths and bike lanes on most major roads. Once you get out of the centre, traffic isn’t so bad. Depending on what itinerary you choose, most of the terrain is flat or lightly graded, which makes cycling easy and enjoyable. The Riverside Tour covers a fair distance, but you don’t need to have a high level of fitness to join.
  • Quality gear. Bikes for all heights are maintained by in-house mechanic. It’s not mandatory to wear a helmet in Belgrade, but you can take one if you want.
  • Flexibility. Summer and winter itineraries may differ, with the option to go swimming in the lake during the warmer months as part of the Riverside Tour.

As well as the Riverside Tour, iBike offers alternative group and private itineraries to suit different interests. If you don’t fancy a tour, iBike also offers a bicycle rental service.

You can find the iBike Belgrade office at Braće Krsmanović 5.

What an interesting city! I’ve heard good things about Belgrade, but hadn’t really taken the time to look into it, now Im adding it to my list!

I haven’t been to Belgrade and your words quickly took a grip on me and loved reading about various corners of the city. I loved the pic – Street art in Savamala. A bike tour is indeed a lovely way to explore a city.

I am dying to do a tour like this – thank you for sharing the highlights of it. I’ve only been to Belgrade once, but I was there for a school event and didn’t have a chance to explore on my own or learn too much about its history. I have visited all of the former Yugoslavia countries, and it’s so interesting how the people from each country has such a different story to tell about what happened in the war. I had no idea Belgrade has been rebuilt 40 times, but I’m sure that contributes to a lot of the interesting stories and history that can be found there.

Absolutely! As we travel through the Balkans we’re finding the different perspectives on recent history so fascinating.

Thanks for your comment, Diana!

That’s incredible, a city that has been flattened and rebuilt 40 times, and has been the capital of at least 10 different states. Wow. What a fascinating tour. Really enjoyed reading your article and learning about Belgrade. I really the love of a bike tour, what a great way to see more unexplored parts of the city.

I visited Belgrade several times but I never thought about visiting it on the bike. This seems like a really nice tour with relevant information and you can probably get to see a lot more than by walk.

Belgrade seems like a cool city! I’d love to do an ibike tour. Great way to enjoy the outdoors and see the city.

What a great idea to do a bike tour rather than a walking tour! Especially in a large city, it is a much better alternative. So many interesting parts of the city, too! I’ll definitely consider a bike tour the next time I travel.

Love seeing your photos of Belgrade! Serbia is one of the three Eastern European countries I have left to visit (along with Slovenia and Czech Republic) and seeing those towering apartment blocks… and riverfront cafes… definitely moves to to the top of that list!

Thanks, Carly! Slovenia is definitely my favourite of the three, but Belgrade is a fantastic city. Reminds me a bit of Tbilisi. Novi Sad and Subotica are great, too. I’m sure you’ll love it!

This looks like such an incredible experience. I love these cycle tours that are going on in various cities now – it’s such a great way to explore a place while taking in the fresh air!

Whether you’re a hardcore cycling aficionado or only cycle recreationally from time to time, Serbia’s diverse terrain provides the perfect backdrop for your passion. From undemanding rides on the cities cycle lanes to the international cycling race   “Tour de Serbie” , Serbia offers plenty of ways for you to enjoy the sport.

Serbia also sits on the European cycling route Eurovelo 6 , which connects the Atlantic Ocean and the Black Sea. The route through Serbia follows the course of the Danube , guaranteeing enjoyment of Serbia’s natural and historic landmarks. If you prefer exploring more urban areas, you can also visit Serbia’s city centres by bicycle. And if excitement and an adrenaline rush is what you’re after, we recommend mountain biking. Challenging rides down steep alpine paths offers the perfect mix of cycling and exploration. No other experience can match the sensation you feel as you speed down challenging rocky paths! This is also an unconventional way to get to know Serbia’s many mountains outside of the skiing season.

Discover Bicycle Trails in Serbia (EuroVelo 6,11 and 13)

biking routs serbia

Three international bicycle trails EuroVelo (6,11,13) enter Serbia in Vojvodina, creating a unique network of trails that connect different natural resorts, cultural and historical sights, local gastronomic experiences, and friendly hosts.

The EuroVelo 6 (EV6) cycling route, which connects the Atlantic Ocean and the Black Sea, was declared the most attractive cycling route in Europe at the ITB (International Tourism Fair in Berlin) last year. This 4,500 km long route is known as the Danube Bicycle Route , considering that it follows the second longest river in Europe in the largest and the most attractive part.

During the last year, between Passau and Vienna, 755,000 cyclists passed the route, a number that speaks of the quality of this attraction. For the sake of comparison, about 10,000 cyclists pass this route in Serbia every year, and at a time when our travels across the border are difficult, cycling tourism represents a great potential for local and small businesses.

In Serbia, the EuroVelo 6 route enters the north of Vojvodina, near Bački Breg, and exits after 667 km until Negotin, in Eastern Serbia. In addition to the EuroVelo 6 route, there are two other international cycling corridors in Vojvodina, EuroVelo 11, and EuroVelo 13. On several occasions, representatives of the European Cycling Federation (ECF) pointed out that the Eurovelo 6 route in Serbia has the best signaling system in Europe, such as the blue signs with the number 6 inside the yellow stars. The Eurovelo 13 route has also been marked, while the signalization for the Eurovelo 11 route in our country is still being prepared.

Starting from Bački Breg, where the Eurovelo 6 route enters Serbia, do not miss the lock in Bezdan- the first facility in Europe where underwater concreting was applied, as well as a part of the memorial complex dedicated to the Battle of Batin. Especially if you are into river fishing, take the opportunity and enjoy the nature of the “Upper Danube” Special Nature Reserve, where you can relax in Čarda Štuka, surrounded by hundred-year-old oaks, cook fish and spend the night in a local accommodation at the most affordable price. From Kupusina you can head towards Apatin or Sombor, where the Long Tour cycling camp is located in the city center. From Kupusina to Apatin, a good, asphalt road awaits you, along which you can spend the night in the Budžak camp or enjoy the Danube beach Vagoni during the day.

serbia cycle tours

A few years ago, a system of bicycle paths was established on the Fruška Gora mountain, among which the most interesting is the tour in the southern slopes, where you can visit all monasteries and lakes within 80 km of an intense mountain bike tour. Considering that this is the territory of the National Park, a lot of beautiful nature awaits you, such as places where the deers feed, birds watch, while monasteries and lakes are natural oases near which you will find a spiritual and a sense of physical peace. Of course, do not miss the unforgettable town of Sremski Karlovci, the city center with many wineries, restaurants, the famous Karlovac High School, the Patriarchal Palace, the Cathedral and the Chapel of Peace which was built in 1699. On the 3.5 kilometers from Sremski Karlovci, there is an Eco-camp where you can pitch a tent, relax or walk on the trails of Fruška Gora.

novi sad serbia

One of the real treats is the circular route around the Danube which starts from Novi Sad. Head west, via Futog to Begec, from where you can take a ferry to Banoštor. From there you can return to Sremska Kamenica. Turn to Kamenički Park, after which you will reach Petrovaradin fortress and complete the tour.

serbia cycle tours

In addition to the Danube cycling route, Vojvodina is characterized by the possibility of cycling along another important river – the Tisa. This tour starts from the center of Subotica and represents an experience of its kind, where you will enjoy the tradition of the city on flat bike terrain. The city is known for Art Nouveau architecture, due to which Subotica belongs to the European cultural route Art Nouveau. Further, the route will take you around Palić and Ludaški lakes, special nature reserves.

serbia cycle tours

On the way to Titel, the last place on this route, do not miss the view from the tower of the Town Hall in the small town of Senta, the old bridge in Bečej, the Romanesque basilica in Arača, and Taras – where 42 pairs of storks nest.

golubac fortress

Next to this popular bicycle route, one can explore Vojvodina on the EuroVelo 13 route that connects Žombolj, Vršac, and Bela Crkva. At the border crossing with Romania, in the town of Zombolj, a Regional Center for Cyclotourism was recently built, which in its complex has a rest area, the possibility for washing clothes, tools for repairing bicycles and information about cycling attractions in the area.

lepenski vir

If you continue south, from Stara Palanka you can take the ferry to the other side of the Danube, to the place Ram where the medieval fortress of the same name is located, from where you continue via EuroVelo 6 rout e, towards Golubac, Lepenski Vir, Donji Milanovac and Kladovo.

Our boat bike tours in Serbia

Boat bike tours serbia.

Serbia is a highly underrated country for boat and bike tours, and undeservedly so — it has spectacular fortresses, serene and impressive stretches of the Danube River, a fascinating history, vibrant cities and plenty of tasty traditional dishes for you to sink your teeth into!

And the highlight of your boat bike tour in Serbia is the Iron Gates national park, officially called the Đerdap National Park. Known as the “Iron Gates of the Danube”, this area on the border with Romania is home to gorges, canyons, river valleys, ancient fortifications and hundreds of caves — and is all yours to enjoy from the deck of your ship, the Theodor Körner, as you traverse the confluence of the Low Carpathian and Balkan mountain ranges.

Getting there is (more than) half the adventure

But this is no ordinary cycle and cruise tour: Our special 15-day Danube Experience Iron Gates tour travels through six European countries on its way to and from the Đerdap Gorge.

Your adventure will depart from the gorgeous German town of Passau, which lies at the confluence of three rivers. You’ll follow one of these, the impressive Danube, for most of the trip, setting out on relaxed cycling tours through wonderful landscapes by day, and rejoining the ship for a delicious dinner and resting up in your comfortable ship’s quarters by night.

Just a taste of what you can look forward to in addition to your boat bike tour in Serbia: the capital cities Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest; the vineyards and castles of Austria’s Wachau Valley; the immense Esztergom Basilica in Hungary; the natural beauty of the Drava-Nemzeti National Park; and the Danube’s stunning Schlögener Schlinge loop.

Belgrade, canyons and beyond; boat bike touring in Serbia

And if that wasn’t enough, boat bike tours in Serbia have plenty more to offer in addition to the wondrous spectacle of the Iron Gates. The “White City” of Belgrade, Serbia’s upbeat capital, is a great place to dine, enjoy lively folk music, and learn more about the rise and fall of Yugoslavia. And the Petrovaradin Fortress of Novi Sad will be sure to take your breath away — perhaps you’ll need some lovely rural biking and Serbian wine tasting to recover.

Georgetown canal boat tours face uncertain future after NPS ends partnership

There are lingering questions about the future of Georgetown’s C&O canal boat tours, after the National Park Service announced it’s ending its philanthropic agreement with the nonprofit Georgetown Heritage .

Last month, NPS said the agreement is being terminated effective April 29. However, in a statement, the agency said the move doesn’t “change the operation of the canal boat in Georgetown.”

D.C.’s government paid for the construction of the canal boat and Georgetown Heritage, the nonprofit that works to improve National Parks in Georgetown, owns it. The organization operates the boat under a separate agreement with the Park Service.

Maggie Downing, Georgetown Heritage’s executive vice president, said the group’s ownership of the boat isn’t in jeopardy, “but what it will take for us to be able to raise the money and keep this organization going is certainly going to be challenging in the next couple of years,” she said.

“We do remain committed to owning and operating the boat,” Downing said. “But I think it may be a difficult path getting there.”

The nonprofit will have some time to work toward that goal. The boat won’t be operating for the next two years while repairs are made to the canal. The soonest the boat would be able to return to the canal is 2026, Downing said.

About 40,000 people have participated in the tours over the two seasons they were offered, according to Downing.

“It’s a really leisurely experience to look out and see Georgetown from a different vantage point, and to learn about the history, to hear the stories of the people who built the canal and who lived their lives along the canal,” Downing said.

Georgetown Heritage operates the boat under a cooperating agreement with the Park Service. The Philanthropic Partnership Agreement allowed the nonprofit to fundraise for projects in the park.

The group had plans to make accessibility improvements along the towpath, and to install “recreational opportunities down at the aqueduct, a dock for canoeing and kayaking along the canal,” Downing said.

“The cancellation of the Philanthropic Partnership Agreement really puts the future of any of those improvements to the park in danger,” Downing said.

In its March statement, the Park Service said terminating a philanthropic agreement is rare and happens “only after exhausting all other avenues to try to resolve the issues.”

“There have been multiple violations of the Philanthropic Partnership Agreement that have led to irreconcilable differences in the partnership, making it impossible to maintain the collaborative relationship necessary to accomplish mutually identified goals as required by the PPA,” the Park Service said in a statement to WTOP. “Georgetown Heritage has promoted actions that disregard the NPS mandate to protect park resources.”

The agreement, Downing said, was terminated because “current leadership at the park no longer wants to pursue these projects.”

Paris-Roubaix 2024: How to Watch a UCI World Tour Cycling Livestream for Free

The world's best riders take on the Queen of the Classics.

serbia cycle tours

The UCI World Tour heads to the rugged roads of northern France this weekend for the 2024 edition of the Paris-Roubaix.

Widely regarded as the toughest one-day race on the road cycling calendar, Paris-Roubaix features some of the most grueling cobblestone stretches on any of the Spring Classics. The peloton's ordeal eventually concludes after almost 160 miles in the iconic velodrome in Roubaix.

Last year's event saw Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck) claim victory in the men's race while Alison Jackson (EF Education-Cannondale) was the 2023 women's race winner.

Below, we'll outline the best  live TV streaming services  to use to watch the Paris-Roubaix live wherever you are in the world.

Max Walscheid of Germany and Team Cofidis riding along a cobbled stretch, while spectators behind a barrier with flags cheer on from the sides at the 2023 Max Walscheid of Germany and Team Cofidis race.

The 256.6km one-day race is known as "The Hell of the North," and these cobblestones might give you a clue as to why.

Paris-Roubaix 2024: Where and when is it?

The 2024 Paris Roubaix Femmes takes place on Saturday, April 6, at 1:35 p.m. CET local time, making it a 7:35 a.m. ET or 4:35 a.m. PT start in the US . For viewers in the UK it's a 12:35 p.m. BST start , while in Australia the action begins at 9:35 p.m. AEST .

The Men's race meanwhile starts on Sunday, April 7 at 11:10 a.m. CET local time, which is 5:10 a.m. ET or 2:10 a.m. PT in the US, 10:10 a.m. BST in the UK and 7:10 p.m. in Australia.

How to watch the Paris-Roubaix 2024 online from anywhere using a VPN

If you find yourself unable to view the race locally, you may need a different way to watch -- that's where using a VPN can come in handy. A VPN is also the best way to stop your ISP from throttling your speeds by encrypting your traffic, and it's also a great idea if you're traveling and find yourself connected to a Wi-Fi network, and you want to add an extra layer of privacy for your devices and logins.

With a VPN, you're able to virtually change your location on your phone, tablet or laptop to get access to what you want to watch. If your internet provider or mobile carrier has stuck you with an IP address that incorrectly shows your location in a blackout zone, a VPN can correct that problem by giving you an IP address in your correct, non-blackout area. Most VPNs, like our  Editors' Choice, ExpressVPN , make it really easy to do this.

Using a VPN to watch or stream sports is legal in any country where VPNs are legal, including the US, UK and Canada, as long as you have a legitimate subscription to the service you're streaming. You should be sure your VPN is set up correctly to prevent leaks: Even where VPNs are legal, the streaming service may terminate the account of anyone it deems to be circumventing correctly applied blackout restrictions.

Quick tips for streaming Paris-Roubaix 2024 using a VPN

  • With four variables at play -- your ISP, browser, video streaming provider and VPN -- your experience and success when streaming the 2024 Paris-Roubaix live may vary.
  • If you don't see your desired location as a default option for ExpressVPN, try using the "search for city or country" option.
  • If you're having trouble after you've turned on your VPN and set it to the correct viewing area, there are two things you can try for a quick fix. First, log into your streaming service subscription account and make sure the address registered for the account is an address in the correct viewing area. If not, you may need to change the physical address on file with your account. Second, some smart TVs -- like Roku -- don't have VPN apps you can install directly on the device itself. Instead, you'll have to install the VPN on your router or the mobile hotspot you're using (like your phone) so that any device on its Wi-Fi network now appears in the correct viewing location.
  • All of the VPN providers we recommend have helpful instructions on their main site for quickly installing the VPN on your router. In some cases with smart TV services, after you install a cable network's sports app, you'll be asked to verify a numeric code or click a link sent to your email address on file for your smart TV. This is where having a VPN on your router will also help, since both devices will appear to be in the correct location.
  • And remember, browsers can often give away a location despite using a VPN, so be sure you're using a privacy-first browser to log into your services. We normally recommend  Brave .
