Pirate Ship

We did the night cruise April 18/2024. My brother and his wife, my husband and I and our 33 year old daughter had a blast. They put on a couple funny skids. On the ship for 2 hours. We all had a great time!

Excellent adventure especially for kids. Very entertaining and interactive. The crew was amazing, friendly and patient with the kids. Well worth the money for this excursion!!!

Crew was friendly and made sure all the kids were included in their shenanigans. My 10 yr old loved it! We would do it again.

I would have jumped if I could swim. Couldn't wait to get off the ship. Complete waste of time and money, plus no way to leave.

My kids ( 3& 5) loved the Treasure Hunt. A great time for a family. Nice and friendly staff! They did a great job of keeping the kids entertained.

Don't miss it! A pirate's life for sure! The treasure hunt show is amazing! Pirates are all un and it's very interactive for rhe kids. Snacks and drinks ( including adult beverages) available on board. Best spot for show is on the main deck or the upper bow. Have fun. We cant wait to go back for the Rum Runner ahow w/o the kids.

WEATHER ALERT

A river flood warning and a rip current statement in effect for 4 regions in the area

‘shiver me timbers’: all aboard the eerie-sistible adventure of st. augustine’s black raven ghost tour, pirate-themed ghost ship tour a new addition to black raven adventures.

Ashley Harding , Reporter/Weekend Anchor

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Spooky pirates, ghost stories, the nation’s oldest city. Sounds like the perfect recipe for a creepy -- but fun -- way to celebrate Halloween!

This year, Black Raven Adventures in St. Augustine launched its first ghost ship tour, giving guests a chance to hear creepy tales out on the open sea.

The saying may go, “Dead men tell no tales” -- but it’s not true if you’re aboard the Black Raven Ghost Tour.

You’ll meet some real characters, like Daran Hollie, aka Pirate William Frost.

“I’ve always liked dressing up, telling funny stories, being the class clown as it were... started growing my hair out long, people started saying, ‘Wow, you look like a pirate.’ OK, well if I look like a pirate, might as well get a pirate job,” Hollie said.

Pirates are just the beginning. Guests will hear tales highlighting St. Augustine’s famed Castillo de San Marcos, the Lighthouse, and so much more.

As the journey pushes on, just like the sea, the tales get darker.

“We talk about the unfortunate tragedy of the Pittee girls that happened at the Lighthouse. We talk about what happened to Andrew Ranson at Vilano Beach and how he was captured by the Spanish,” Hollie said.

As we learned this month, new stories are still being discovered. A mysterious 19th-century boat was uncovered downtown.

But beware, you might walk away with a few spooky tales of your own. Just asked Joshua Morris -- or as he’s known here, Long John Silver.

“Realistically, there’s a lot of things that go unexplained on the water. Stuff will go missing, doors will be open when we’ve left them closed. Things like that,” Morris said.

For Hollie -- or William Frost -- the experience is a smashing good time.

“The main reason I really do the job is to get that connection with someone. To go, ‘Oh, you had a good time? I made your day?’ When people tell me that, it just makes me go, ‘Oh, thank you so much,” Hollie said.

You still have time to sign up for the Ghost Ship Tour this Saturday. It lasts two hours. People 13 and up can board. If ghost stories aren’t really your thing, Black Raven Adventures offers plenty of other cool tours. To learn more, click here .

No Name Bar

The No Name Bar is a small and relaxing place in the Ancient City of St. Augustine. It has a common thread to a man, a pirate that was known to have no name, or at the very least multiple different names.

On this stop, you’ll learn about the man historians called Edward Thatch, who went by the bone chilling name Blackbeard. He plundered the east coast of North America, holding ships hostage and looting riches before meeting his end with his head on a pike

Casa Reina Taqueria ∓ Tequila

The Casa Reina Taqueria & Tequila is a wonderful little spot in St. Augustine. The bar’s name is Spanish for “Queen’s House” Although, St. Augustine had no queen when it was founded.

Here you’ll learn about how on the order of a queen, the entirety of St. Augustine burned to the ground, only after being sieged and looted. And the man responsible was one of England’s greatest explorers, Sir Francis Drake.

st augustine pirate tour

The Tini Martini Bar

The Tini Martini Bar is a newer addition to the century old Casablanca Inn. It is a tiny oasis of comfort in compassion to the rest of the bed and breakfast. There was a time where St. Augustine had its own little oasis inside the city limits.

On this stop, you’ll learn about Fort Moses, the former settlement just 13 minutes north of the bar that was once the first free black community in North America. And its leader was a free black soldier named Francisco Menéndez.

Rob is an awesome tour guide!!! My fiancee and I were the only ones to book a tour on a rainy evening (we love pirates and cocktails, so we were thrilled with this combination), and we had a great time hearing all of the stories and history of St Augustine from Rob. The drinks were great at each stop, and Rob had some amazing recommendations for bars and food for us to hit after the tour. Would definitely do a tour like this again!

St. Augustine is a Pirate's Paradise

Pirate fans will find plenty of treasures from shows, to live entertainment, and even a pirate inn.

You don't have to sail to the Caribbean to find pirates. Back in the 1500s when St. Augustine was a key port town in the New World, it was continually a target for buccaneers in search of riches to plunder and townspeople to torment. Robert Searle, Francis Drake — pirates and privateers have both played a huge part in the history of the Old City. Today, the pirates in St. Augustine may be harmless, but they look fierce and are always ready for adventure — or to spin a tale.

pirate museum st augustine

Inside the The Pirate Museum.

The city is home to the St. Augustine Pirate & Treasure Museum , This passion project built by former Philadelphia 76ers president and pirate-enthusiast, Pat Croce, is now owned by a local business family who are adding to the museum's collection. Those who visit can lift a gold bar, see the world's oldest wanted poster, and meet some St. Augustine pirates.

Walking around the museum is like stepping onto a real pirate ship. There are interactive exhibits, fun photo opportunities, and treasured artifacts (including one of only three original Jolly Roger flags in the world). It's a must see for any visitor on vacation in the oldest city.

Besides being home to the Pirate & Treasure Museum, St. Augustine also has their infamous pirate cruise, The Black Raven . Go on an adventure on the open water with St. Augustine's own band of pirates. You can learn a sea chanty, laugh at pirate jokes, and watch the little ones learn sword-play and how to surprise the dastardly crew of the Queen Anne's Revenge . All of the volunteer young pirates help to save the day and get to share in the treasure. The cruise is great for visitors and locals, family and friends, kids, and adults. It's a perfect venue for a birthday party, private event, or if you're just looking for things to do for a weekend getaway.

The Black Raven is always full of pirates no matter what the season.

We haven't even begun to touch on St. Augustine's obsession with pirates because we haven't mentioned all the historical reenactments and demonstrations throughout the year! There is Searle's Raid in early spring, Drake's Raid right before summer. All are immense occasions of people dressing, talking and living as the pirates did, and a great excuse to take a trip with the family to the old city.

Reenactors participate in Drake's Raid on St. George Street in St. Augustine.

You might see a scene like this if your visit coincides with Drake's Raid.

And let's not forget the perfect place to lay your head. The Pirate House Inn offers pirate-themed guest rooms. For large groups and families, "The Captain's Quarters" features a king bed and three sets of bunk beds.

Sleep like a pirate at the Pirate Haus Inn.

So whether you enjoy the history and legacy of pirates or you just like the sound of cannon fire - it's a pirate's life for everyone in St. Augustine!

About an hour south of Jacksonville , whose sizable airport services most major carriers, sits America’s oldest city, St. Augustine, founded in 1565 by Spanish explorers. To visit St. Augustine’s charming cobblestone streets and seemingly ancient architecture is to be reminded of Florida’s multicultural history.

Fair warning: This is not for the faint of heart, or for young children.

10. Escape Rooms

For rainy-day fun for teens or tweens, visit Escape U or Xscape Our Rooms . The template is familiar: A group of friends (or strangers) is “locked” inside a room, needing to find the necessary clues to be released. Xscape also offers axe tossing.

11. Potter’s Wax Museum

Much like at Madame Tussaud’s, in this museum you’ll find yourself side-by-side with some of history’s legendary figures. Potter’s claims to be the oldest wax museum in the country, and it’s housed inside the oldest pharmacy in the nation.

12. Ripley's Believe It or Not!

You’ll see the strangest things at Ripley's Believe It or Not! in the Old City. The self-described “odditorium” also features train tours through the city, highlighted by its Ghost Train Adventure.

Activities for Fans of History (and Pirates)

13.  st. augustine pirate and treasure museum.

This museum transports families back three centuries to the pirate stronghold of Port Royal, Jamaica. Embark on a “treasure” hunt and enjoy a special show about the legendary Blackbeard.

14. Castillo de San Marcos

The Castillo de San Marcos , or “Castle of St. Mark,” is the oldest brick-and-mortar structure in the US, built by the Spanish to protect the city from raids by privateers and the British. Kids can explore the fortress, enjoy a Ranger program, and even search for celestial bodies in the clear night sky. A few miles south is Fort Matanzas National Monument , built in 1740 to protect St. Augustine from raids coming from the south.

15. Colonial Quarter

A walk through the quarter is quite literally a step back in time. Learn about blacksmithing, climb the top of the 35-foot watchtower, and join a tour culminating in a musket demonstration. Some of St. Augustine’s best family-friendly restaurants can be found in the quarter, which also hosts a regular series of outdoor concerts and movies at Colonial Oak Music Park .

16. Old Jail Museum

Listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, this museum offers visitors a glimpse into St. Augustine’s not-so-charitable past. Follow costumed docents as they lead a tour through the jail cells, telling tales of the city’s most notorious prisoners and “booking” your kids for crimes popular in the 19th century. It’s all good fun, and playful enough for younger children.

17. Ponce de Leon's Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park

This park celebrates explorer Ponce de Leon’s discovery of Florida in 1513, found while he was searching for the mythical Fountain of Youth. Attractions here include a blacksmith shop, historical excavations, a Native American village, resident peacocks, and, of course, the “magical” spring water that visitors can sample.

18. Pirate and Ghost Tours

The Old City’s Child-Friendly Pirate Walking Tour enables children ages 5-14 to learn about the city’s history and interact with “pirates” in a sort of pirate school for kids, all led by a costumed buccaneer.

If you want to learn about St. Augustine's paranormal past,  Tour St. Augustine, Inc. offers ghost tours of the Old City appropriate for teens and mature tweens. The Ghosts & Gravestones trolley tour takes guests on a 75-minute trip past St. Augustine’s haunted sites, but, again, is best for tweens and teens.

19. St. Augustine Lighthouse

Scale the 219 steps to the top of this 145-year-old beacon for the best views of the city and beaches. Some form of watchtower has actually stood near the current lighthouse since 1589. Young kids will enjoy the shipyard playground area. Older kids might be intrigued by the wooden-boat builders who work on the main floor. Shipwreck artifacts are conserved in an on-site lab, and there are a number of nature trails.

21.  St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park

Ever heard of albino alligators? You can, in fact, find them at the St. Augustine Alligator Farm, along with dozens of other reptile species. Zip line 50 feet above the gators, if you dare.

22. MarineLand Dolphin Adventure

MarineLand is actually an incorporated community just south of downtown St. Augustine Beach, and its dolphin encounters are among the most popular excursions for visitors. Kids can experience these friendly creatures in-house during a dolphin swim or at an open-water sail. Kayak and boat tours of the coastal ecosystem are also available.

23. St. Augustine Wild Reserve

The St. Augustine Wild Reserve is a working rescue center for unwanted exotic animals. Visitors are welcome for guided tours of the center’s tiger and bear sanctuaries, as well as its cougar, leopard, and wolf areas. Five resident Arctic wolves and an African lion were received from the late pop icon Michael Jackson.

24. Burger and Wing Spots

One Twenty Three Burger House  in the Old City offers wood-fired oven delights, including its signature King Street Classic. Along St. George Street, enjoy the vibe and the food at  Prohibition Kitchen , a great place to beat the catch or catch a game. Along the beach, sample the Datil Pepper Cheeseburger at  The Reef  while enjoying the memorable views.

25. Pizza Joints

Let’s start with Pizza Time , on St. George Street in the Old City, which TripAdvisor.com in 2015 ranked second nationally for quality pizza. Locals also like St. Augie's Pizza , also in the Old City but away from the bustle of St. George Street.

26. Ice Cream and Candy

Sweet treats abound in the Old City and along the beach. Locals line up for sundaes at Cone Heads in St. Augustine Beach. Tedi’s Old Tyme Ice Cream is the oldest ice cream destination in St. Augustine and is right in the heart of the historic district. Mayday Handcrafted Ice Cream offers artisanal creations on St. George Street. If you’re craving chocolate, visit Whetstone Chocolates , located throughout the area, for tours and tastings.

Party Like a Pirate on a one-of-a-kind Rum Booze Cruise in St Augustine!

This St. Augustine booze cruise is NOT FOR KIDS and NOT FOR THE EASILY OFFENDED. The Rum Runners is only for sinners and saints who want to sin! Our crew gets down and dirty as they perform a variety of skits, songs, and jokes of explicit adult nature. This show is as dirty as you can get without taking your clothes off!

You never know how a Rum Runners show will turn out. This show is unlike anything you’ll experience anywhere else. It’s raunchy, scandalous, and not for the faint of heart. It’s a party with pirates! This adult-oriented and audience-driven show is not for the easily offended, but is full of outrageous fun aboard the Rum Runner pirate ship. Guests can enjoy a full bar which offers beer, wine, and a large variety of delicious alcoholic and non-alcoholic mixed drinks (cash or card accepted). This party ship leaves the dock at 8:30 p.m. every Friday and Saturday.

No one under 21 years of age permitted. IDs required at check-in. For groups of 15 or more please call the office at 904-826-0000 for a discounted rate.

Our Birthday Party for Adults: The Mutiny Trial

Expect the unexpected when you or a loved one celebrate their birthday on the Black Raven! It’s a party only pirates could pull off – with a mutiny!

Mutiny trials take place on our adults-only Rum Runner cruises. The whole event revolves around the guest of honor who will be accused of trying to commit a mutiny and put on trial for all to see. The charges? That’s up to the family and friends of the mutineer. Before the party, loved ones are encouraged to send us a list of charges about the guest of honor for our crew to read in front of all aboard. How wild or embarrassing they are depends on what your family and friends decide to submit to us. Do you want to charge your sister with getting drunk and trying to ride a dolphin? Or do you want to charge your mom with attempting to raise the dead that time she had “adult time” in a cemetery? (Yes, this really happened).

Things may look bleak for the accused but all is not lost – the mutiny trial wraps up with our special guest being presented with a special gift from the Black Raven. Everybody will get back safely to the dock with a big smile on their lips and a birthday party not to be forgotten.

Mutiny Trials are an additional $95.00 plus tax. Call or email us in advance to arrange a mutiny.

IMPORTANT: All passengers have to check-in at Black Raven’s Ship Store prior to proceeding to the ship. You will NOT be able to board the ship without the boarding passes. The store is located in the St. Augustine Municipal Marina building at 111 Avenida Menendez.

PLEASE NOTE: We need a minimum passenger capacity of 20%  signed up to approve a trip for sailing. To check on the approval status of your adventure, please give us a call at (904)826-0000. Customers who book for a trip that does not meet minimum passengers capacity will be notified by call or text, and email approximately 1.5-2 hours prior to their trip’s check-in time.

PARKING INFORMATION: We DO NOT have a parking lot and parking in St. Augustine is limited. Please allow yourself at least 45-60 minutes to find parking. We WILL NOT issue refunds for parking issues.
