Who is Ella Gross? All about the rumored trainee from The Black Label's upcoming girl group

E lla Gross, the rumored trainee of The Black Label recently garnered a lot of attention, mostly due to her connection with the BLACKPINK rapper Jennie. Gross has already been in the spotlight for her rumored upcoming debut in The Black Label's upcoming girl group. Born in December 2008, Ella is an American-Korean, who is reportedly expected to debut in The Black Label with four other members.

Ella Gross initially went viral at the age of ten for her work as a child model and people recognized her for her resemblance to BLACKPINK's Jennie. Apart from the early kickstart of her career, the trainee has a lot more impressive accomplishments. She has established herself as an actor through her feature in an original series Heather and has a large Instagram following with 4.2 million followers.

Although there hasn't been any official announcement from The Black Label about Ella's reported debut as a K-pop idol, fans are eagerly awaiting confirmation for the same.

Ella Gross, the rumored The Black Label trainee, is reportedly joining their upcoming girl group

As mentioned earlier, Ella Gross is an American-Korean who was born on December 1, 2008. Ella, who also goes by her Korean name, Nabi, has been garnering a lot of attention online for her rumored debut in The Black Label 's upcoming girl band.

The rumored idol took over the internet previously for her resemblance to BLACKPINK's Jennie , which got her the nickname Little Jennie.

She has been an active part of the entertainment industry and began her journey as an actor at the age of ten. She appeared in the 2008 series Heathers and was also seen in several other movies and series. These included the 2019 Netflix original series, Malibu Rescue and 2020's Star Trek: Picard along with another 2019 series called Teachers.

The trainee, who's based in Los Angeles, was signed under the Monster Talent Management during her projects as a child actor and model. The agency is known to house stars in the Western entertainment industry such as Dylan Minnette and Zendaya, among others. The fourteen-year-old trainee is also a brand ambassador for the luxury brand, La Mer.

She has garnered a huge fanbase on her several social media platforms and has around 4.2 million Instagram followers. Given that the idol has already showcased her impressive talents as a model and actor, netizens are excited to see her work as a K-pop idol.

The rumored upcoming K-pop girl group under The Black Label is expected to have five members, Ella Gross, Brittney, Bailey, Chloe, and Annie. An alleged picture of the five members in one of The Black Label's practice rooms is being circulated on social media. This has only cemented fans' belief about the rumored debut.

Who Are The Black Label Debut Trainees (Teddy Girl Group)?

who are The Black Label debut trainees new Teddy girl group gg members TheBlackLabel seven Ella Gross Bailey Sok Annie Moon Seo-yoon

On February 6, 2024, The Black Label (also written as “TheBlackLabel”), which is the company of Blackpink music producer Teddy, confirmed that it would debut a girl group in the first half of 2024. This confirmation was spurred by two photos (below) depicting apparent trainees at The Black Label that were uploaded anonymously to an online forum on February 5, 2024, which had been given the title “Girl Group by Teddy.” Seven girls were seen in total in the photos, and there is no confirmation that all seven of them are active trainees at The Black Label and/or are slated to debut as new girl group members under Teddy. Likewise, the actual identities of all seven girls have not yet been confirmed either. As such, K-Pop Answers will set aside rumors and focus on the facts and most reliable reporting regarding these photos, in order to create the most accurate picture of who The Black Label debut trainees may be — these prospects currently include Ella Gross, Bailey Sok, and Annie Moon (Moon Seo-yoon).

New Teddy Girl Group Members? Facts About Who The Black Label Debut Trainees May Be

Firstly, Ella Gross is an ethnically Korean and German American, born December 1, 2008 (currently age 15), who has been signed exclusively to The Black Label since July 2018 . Ella is both a model and an actress who earned the nickname “ Little Jennie ” for her resemblance to Blackpink’s Jennie . Regarding her modeling, according to The Black Label itself , “At just 10 years young, Ella began to be the face for major global brands, FENDI, Lacoste, GAP, Levi’s, Tommy Hilfiger, ZARA, H&M and Adidas.” She has accordingly had acting roles in Heathers (2018), Teachers (2019), Malibu Rescue (2019), and Star Trek: Picard (2020). Ella Gross has more than 4 million Instagram followers at the time of writing, so she would bring an extreme amount of built-in popularity to a new girl group at The Black Label for Teddy.

Korean news publications have confidently presented Bailey Sok as another person who seems to appear in the photos of apparent The Black Label trainees, and she too would be a compelling prospect to debut as a girl group member. Bailey Sok is a Korean American choreographer, born February 24, 2004 (currently age 19), with an incredible pedigree for her age. At age 15, Bailey participated in choreographing “Psycho” for Red Velvet . In January 2023, she confirmed that she had choreographed “VIBE,” a Taeyang song featuring Jimin of BTS. Notably, Taeyang (a BigBang member ) is currently signed to The Black Label. With her outstanding dance skills, Bailey Sok would have a tremendous amount to offer Teddy in a new girl group, if she is indeed a trainee slated to debut. (She too has 1.8 million Instagram followers at the time of writing.)

Lastly, Korean news publications have also confidently presented Annie Moon as a person who seems to appear in the photos of apparent The Black Label trainees. Shinsegae Group chaebol heiress Annie Moon (Korean name Moon Seo-yoon) was born in January 2002 (currently age 22) and is the granddaughter of Shinsegae Group Chairwoman Lee Myung-hee, who is in turn the youngest daughter of deceased Samsung founder Lee Byung-chull. In other words, Annie was born into extraordinary wealth. According to her Instagram , which has more than 70,000 followers at the time of writing, she apparently attends or has attended Columbia University, but most details of her life are not a matter of public record. There are various claims about celebrities she may be friends with, some of whom are idols, but we will not be engaging in granular speculation here.

Annie Moon Seo-yoon chaebol heiress

Based on the unofficial photos released of apparent The Black Label trainees, Ella Gross, Bailey Sok, and Annie Moon have been presented in Korean media with the highest degree of confidence as appearing in those photos, and they would all make for promising debut members in a new Teddy girl group. However, it bears reiterating that none of them are confirmed to be actually debuting at this time, and only Ella Gross is known to be under exclusive contract with The Black Label. As more genuinely reliable information becomes available about potential trainees, this space shall be updated accordingly. Likewise, when the new girl group is confirmed, it shall receive its own separate, in-depth articles at K-Pop Answers.

The Black Label continues to exist as a subsidiary of YG Entertainment at the moment. YG is of course where Blackpink was created , while Teddy has always been the producer for Blackpink. However, this new Teddy girl group will exist in a state of slightly unusual competition with YG’s new girl group, BabyMonster, since both groups are considered descendants of Blackpink!

For more, check out our comprehensive BabyMonster members profile , which comes packed with fact-checked trivia on what could be this new girl group’s biggest rival.

Star Trek's Writers Didn't Invent The Borg Queen – A Paramount Executive Did

Star Trek: First Contact queen

When the Borg were first introduced on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" (in the 1989 episode "Q Who"), they were terrifying. Clearly inspired by the works of H.R. Giger, the Borg sported tubes, servos, wires, and ineffable black machinery sprouting from their bodies. The Borg were made up of other species that had been kidnapped and assimilated into their collective, their minds wiped and replaced with a singular, terrifying machine consciousness. The Borg traversed space in outsized cube-shaped vessels, likewise crisscrossed with wires and ducts. They only had one goal: to grow. As Q (John de Lancie) described them, the Borg are the ultimate users. They look out at the universe and emotionlessly see nothing but raw materials to expand with.

The Borg returned periodically throughout "Next Generation," becoming one of the show's more impressive antagonists. The race of soulless machine people proved to be a great villain.

Naturally, when "Next Generation" moved into feature films, the Borg had to return. Jonathan Frakes' 1996 film "Star Trek: First Contact" featured the Borg traveling back in time to a vulnerable moment of Earth's history, hoping to alter events in their favor. In the past, the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise discovered a new Borg wrinkle: they didn't have a group consciousness but were ruled by a sweaty, malevolent, emotional Queen (Alice Krige). Giving the Borg a "boss monster" was a silly twist that has, unfortunately, become a key part of "Star Trek" lore.

In the oral history book "The Fifty-Year Mission: The Next 25 Years: From The Next Generation to J. J. Abrams," edited by Mark A. Altman and Edward Gross, "First Contact" co-writer Brannon Braga revealed that the Borg Queen was invented by a Paramount executive named Jonathan Dolgen ... who thought the Borg were boring.

To elucidate: "Star Trek: First Contact" is about a Borg attack on Earth that is cut short by the tactical savvy of Starfleet and the Enterprise-E. Just before their ship is destroyed, the Borg send a small spherical vessel through a mysterious time portal. The Enterprise pursues, getting caught briefly in a "time wake" and for a moment see that history has been altered. The Earth's population is now nine billion Borgs. The Enterprise goes back to the year 2063 to prevent their timeline alteration.

Audiences finally meet the Borg Queen a third of the way into the film. Unlike the other Borgs, the Queen is individualistic, sexual, and emotional and claims to speak for the Borg. Uncharacteristically, she states very specific goals. She was a fun, slinky, terrifying movie monster, but she made the Borg less threatening; the previously single-minded cyborgs now had a leader one could negotiate with.

Which is how Dolgen wanted it. The exec said that the Borg were dull, amounting to little more than robot zombies. They needed a voice. Screenwriter Brannon Braga hastened to come up with a "fix." Braga recalled:

"We did a substantial rewrite. Also, it was Jonathan Dolgen at the time who ran Paramount, the biggest cheese there was, and he was also a ravenous 'Star Trek' fan. Rick and I used to go into his office for meetings all the time, and he would say, 'Oh, I really like this episode and that episode.' I think he was the one who said the Borg are boring. They're just zombies, you need a voice. We thought, 'S***, okay, it's like a hive. Like a bee colony. Let's make a queen,' and it was probably the best invention we could have possibly come up with."

A hive? Sure.

Assimilate this

Turning the Borg into a hive made the villains a lot less interesting. Instead of being an unreasonable machine intelligence, there was now a hierarchy on board a Borg ship, with a "captain" calling the shots and the "drones" taking orders. And if the Queen was sexual and emotional, she was suddenly prone to trickery and manipulation herself. Indeed, in the climax of "First Contact," Data (Brent Spiner) hoodwinks the Borg Queen; she is emotionally distracted enough to let Data (Brent Spiner) re-aim the ship's torpedos.

But Braga was just following orders from Paramount, and a Borg Queen was his most elegant solution. At least the change was demanded by a Trekkie with his own vision of the franchise, and not an ignorant moneyman looking for toyetic images.

Early in the scriptwriting process, it seemed that Commander Riker (Jonathan Frakes) was to be the hero. Braga realized that Picard should be the one to face off against the Borg again, saying:

"I don't think anyone realized by shuffling Picard and Riker around it would change things so monumentally, but I'm glad it did. Because it was the next movie, and it had been two years since you had last seen Picard, you kind of wanted to do big things with him. You wanted to have him fall in love and take a woman with him at the end. Actually, it was a good instinct on Patrick's part, because you want to see these characters in new situations. But this is an action movie. A romance? What a stupid idea. In the rewrite, the Borg meets the captain and he's our action hero."

"First Contact," despite its action film trappings , was a big hit, and is often considered the best of the "NextGen" movies. A Hive it is.
