Tyler a Becca sú dvaja malí súrodenci, ktorí jedného dňa odchádzajú na týždeň do Californie k starým rodičom. Nebolo by na tom nič nezvyčajné, keby sa doposiaľ nikdy v živote nestretli. Vzťahy v rodine totiž naštrbil útek ich matky, ktorá v mladosti nejedenkrát nerešpektovala ich výchovu. Nakoľko však prejavili záujem spoznať svoje vnúčatá, a bolo by dobré raz a navždy staré hriechy zahodiť za hlavu, rozhodnú predsa len vycestovať, a to bez dozoru matky, ktorá v rovnakom čase podniká niekoľkodňovú dovolenku s priateľom. A keďže si chcú Tyler a Becca prvé okamihy strávené po boku starých rodičov navždy zachovať, pobyt dokumentujú za pomoci kamier. Už čoskoro sa ale obaja presvedčia, že zisťovanie detailov o ich famílii nebolo najšťastnejším riešením. Starí rodičia totiž už dávno nie sú tým, kým bývali. ( *CARNIFEX* )

Vláda má v dohledné době důchodcům přidat jednorázově litr. Jak ironické! To proslulý režisér M.Night Shyamalan je větší frája a jde v zesměšňování seniorů ještě dál. Ze dvou vitálních staříků dělá nesvéprávné magory, do jejichž osidel poslal jejich dvě vnoučata v pubertálním věku, která je nikdy předtím neviděla. Jak to tak u Shyamalana bývá, návštěva dvou sourozenců nebude probíhat v úplně standardním duchu a budou se dít věci, nad kterými divákův rozum nejednou zůstane v němém úžasu. Laskominy sice budou na stole, ale za daného chování pana a paní domu, by je nikdo dobrovolně nepozřel. Babka po nocích zvrací a po domě se promenáduje nahá a vyšiluje. Dědek se posírá do plenek, které tajně schovává v kůlně a ve volném čase se mazlí s brokovnicí, nebo má pocit, že ho někdo nebo něco pronásleduje. Blázinec jak vyšitý! Starší ze dvou sourozenců, Becca, se ten týden podivností a podivného chování svých prarodičů rozhodne zdokumentovat. Shyamalan neodolal svodům docu-stylu a svůj režijní comeback plně podřídil záběrům P.O.V. kamerou, která každému nemusí být po chuti, zvláště když se s horory na tento způsob snímanými, roztrhl pytel. Ano, budete muset vydržet trochu té roztřesené kamery, jejíž snímání má mnohdy i svoji působivost. Nejlépe se uplatnila v záběrech na větší vzdálenost, když dva staříci stáli opodál a v danou chvíli se chovali divně. Část scén působí strašidelně. Jedná se ale jen o několika vteřinové strašení. Tyto zajímavě a neotřele působící sekvence jsou ale také dost často prokládány nezajímavými a chod strašení nabourávajícími scénami, ve kterých se nic extra neděje. Rytmus filmu nebyl ideální. Je zde i řada scén s potenciálně děsivým rozměrem, ale režisér z nich hanebně nic nevytěžil. Třeba scéna s troubou, do které Becca musí na žádost babky vlézt celá, aby ji dobře vyčistila. Scéna je zde dvakrát, pokaždé napětí jak prase a režisér s touhle scénou vůbec nepracoval dál a nijak ji patřičně nerozvinul. To samé platí o scéně se studnou. I několik dalších scén má hodně zakrslý rozměr. Shyamalanovi solidně hráblo. Kdyby mu hráblo ještě víc, mohl bych slavit, že je v excelentní formě. U něj spíše pořád platí, že když nepřijde ve svém filmu s extra vypointovaným závěrem, jeho film nezabere. I zde pointa nechybí. No, nebyla zrovna logicky neochvějná. To sourozenci nikdy neviděli svoje prarodiče na fotce?! To se mně nechce věřit. Ale dobrá. Film gradoval, někomu může vadit rozvláčné a málo úderné tempo, Režisér v závěru neobjasní příliš. Ale nebyl u toho úplná piča. Práci s herci umí, casting kvalitní, Olivia DeJonge je své filmové mámě Kathryn Hahn dokonce podobná. Ta je současně i nejznámější hereckou akvizicí ve filmu. Budování strašidelné atmosféry dobré, z odlehlosti farmy se už tolik strachu nevytřískalo, některé vsuvky zoufalé i zbytečné (rapování klučiny+zpovědi členů rodiny na kameru), závěr je nejodvázanějším v celé režisérově kariéře. Film bych si podruhé nepustil. Shyamalanovo napravení pošramocené režijní reputace bude ještě nějakou dobu trvat. Filmem o šíleném párku důchodců hororovou extra bouři nenadělal. Snaha se cení. Mladá Helena Třeštíková a raper Tyler Brown Face na nevšední návštěvě u babičky.. Se slovy o velkém mistrově návratu bych byl opatrný. Do found footage sice navzdory trendům vložil notnou dávku nadhledu i neotřelých nápadů, ale slavobránu bych začal stavět až tehdy, kdyby vše uměl funkčně podat v klasickém formátu a s pointou se neschovával ve vlastním stínu. A mimochodem, děti měli sednout na zpáteční vlak, ihned když se dozvěděli, že prarodiče neznají One Direction. Už tohle přeci není normální.. ( 10.11.2015 )

Shyamalan se vrátil k žánru, který ho stvořil, a natočil si vlastní verzi kultovního Babiččina domu. A docela to stojí za to. Forma FF, rakovina moderního hororu, je tentokrát překvapivě více než snesitelná, i když neopodstatněná a ve výsledku zbytečná. Každopádně Indova schopnost, jak dokáže vyděsit i šílenou babkou za denního světla, je obdivuhodná a v nočních scénách se mu hodí dvojnásob. A zatím, co dětský pár působí naprosto přirozeně a celkem sympaticky (!), ten starší spolehlivě plní funkci hnusně bizarního zla. Jo a WTF pointa se tentokrát nekoná, spíše menší překvapení. Ten pocit, keď niekto spraví presne to, čo celý čas tvrdíte, že by mal spraviť. Shyamalan inak ako kedy predtým, Shyamalan restart. Zaprvé, máloktorý horor takto pracuje s emóciami, pričom si to nevšimnete a neletíte mu. Zadruhé, tak obyčajné a neobjavné, a pritom tak originálne! Ako fakt, spomeňte si na úplne poslednú scénu. Už ste niekedy v horore podobnú videli, bez toho, že by to zároveň vo vás vyvolávalo pocit trápnosti? A práve naopak, nechcem spoilerovať a ťažko to rozpoznať, ale ten pocit bol nielen fajn, on bol presne a stopercentne na tej vlne, na ktorej ho autor zamýšľal. Úplná parádička ( 18.10.2015 )

Udělal jsem chybu, že jsem nemrknul do komentů. Vědět, že jde o FF, neztrácel bych s touhle ptákovinou čas. To ale byla blbost! Celý film sledovat dva spratky, jak plkají o ničem a vyslýchají nebo šmírují prarodiče, co jsou evidentně na hlavu. K čemu tam sakra byla ona báječná trouba na pečení? Já bych věděl, tvůrci filmu ne. Hloupý film, u kterého jsem se sice v poslední čtvrtině vydatně zasmál, jenže jsem čekal strašení. Naprostá ztráta času a 1* z milosti, i když je to spíš odpad. ( 30.10.2015 )

Matka s rodiči dlouho nemluví a po svém útěku od nich je desítky let nekontaktovala. Děti své prarodiče nikdy nespatřily a těší se na to, až je poznají. Becca chce využít příležitosti a pomocí kamery natočit dokumentární film o svých prarodičích, s cílem lépe je pochopit a přimět matku, aby se s nimi po mnoha letech usmířila. Během pobytu na farmě však Becca a Tyler začnou odkrývat temná tajemství prarodičů.

Nejlepší scéna je ta, ve které se tvůrce v roli mimozemšťana ptá nějakého generála, co že je to ta válka a proč se zabíjíme, z čehož je generál nervózní. Ta ale trvá jen pár desítek sekund.

After former President Donald Trump greeted some young Black students during a Chick-fil-A visit in Atlanta, Democratic strategists are throwing cold water on any suggestions that the viral moment signals broader support for him among young Black voters. 

“I don’t think that changes the established norm that Donald Trump has an agenda that’s pretty hostile to Black folks overall,” Joel Payne, a Democratic strategist, told theGrio. “It doesn’t mean that every African-American voter will feel that way. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t outlier opinions that exist.”

On Wednesday, Trump dropped in at a Chick-fil-A restaurant near Atlanta’s prominent HBCUs: Spelman College, Morehouse College, Clark Atlanta University, and Morris Brown College. The Republican presidential candidate, who faces four criminal charges – including one in Atlanta prosecuted by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis – greeted the mostly young, Black customers and workers.

The former president, who purchased milkshakes for the young patrons, was met with smiles and glee, including from Michaelah Montgomery, who told him, “I don’t care what the media tells you, Mr. Trump, we support you.” Trump then offered to hug Montgomery, who later declared, “Tell my momma I made it!” 

According to her LinkedIn account, Montgomery graduated from Clark Atlanta in 2020 and is the founder of Conserve the Culture, a conservative grassroots group. She appeared to suggest to Fox News on Friday that the students at the Chick-fil-A were part of her organization.

Though the planned Trump visit (the Chick-fil-A chain is owned by one of his golf club members) garnered a lot of social media attention, political experts say it doesn’t change the facts about Trump’s standing with Black voters.

“I don’t want to overblow a minor viral moment inside of a Chick-fil-A in Atlanta and make it seem like … Donald Trump is winning Black people,” said Tolulope Kevin Olasanoye, executive director of the Democratic Party of Georgia. “He didn’t get a lot of Black people in 2020. He didn’t get that many Black people in 2016. He ain’t gonna get that many Black people in 2024.”

Though some polls last year indicated that Trump was gaining upwards of 22% among Black voters in key battleground states, a recent poll conducted by Pew Research Center found that only 12% of Black voters say they support the Republican Party. According to Pew, Trump earned 8% of the Black vote in 2020. 

However, several polls also indicate a decline in Black voter support for President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, primarily due to their feelings about the economy and the Biden-Harris administration’s foreign policy in support of Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza. 

“We’ve just got to be talking about this stuff in a real way that gets people to remind themselves about what the real record of the Trump presidency is [and] what the real record of the Biden presidency is,” said Olasanoye. 

Reecie Colbert, a political strategist and host of “The Reecie Colbert Show” on Sirius XM, told theGrio that while she doesn’t “begrudge” the excitement displayed toward Trump by some of the Black students in Atlanta, it may speak to a segment of young Black voters who are being “targeted by disinformation [and] misinformation.”

Some of that misinformation is coming from rap culture, said Colbert, who noted that Montgomery referred to the rapper Lil Baby’s song “4PF.”

“I think her referencing that kind of taps into some of these rappers who have been perpetuating this notion that Trump gave us stimmies [stimulus checks] and gave us money when the actual opposite is true,” she noted. “We saw Black businesses shutter, we saw Black unemployment surge, we saw a lot of Black wealth wiped out.” 

By contrast, said Colbert, during the Biden-Harris administration, which also issued stimulus checks through the American Rescue Plan two months into office, there has been a persistent record low Black unemployment and a significant comeback for small Black businesses . 

She added, “And don’t forget the fact that the child tax credit cut Black child poverty in half for the year that that was in existence.” 

Colbert said despite the numbers, there remains an “appeal” for Trump that perpetuates the “false idea that he was an economic boon for the country and Black people.”

There’s also the celebrity factor of Trump, noted Payne, who was the director of paid Black media for former Sen. Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential election. 

“There is something about fame that kind of washes over people, and that allows folks to either forget or to compartmentalize the other things that are there, and that’s something unique about Trump,” he said. “I think his fame and name brand do have some kind of an outsized impact on their view of him. But I think it would be unfair to characterize that as a quality only to Black voters.”

Payne said Democrats will have to “persuade” young Black voters rather than simply motivating them to “turn out” like in years past. 

“What’s more important to do is continue to put the case in front of large numbers of African-American voters, of young African-American voters, to remind them of the reality of what the Trump presidency was,” he said. “To remind them of things that they may have forgotten.”

“This is a party that stood in the way of young Black voters having student loans forgiven,” Olasanoye said of the Republican Party. “This is a party that doesn’t agree with the younger Black voters on climate justice.”

Trump, he argued, is not running an “issues-based campaign … by any stretch of the imagination.” He added, “I don’t believe what Donald Trump says, I believe what he does, and I think that Black people should do so too.”

Olasanoye said the challenge for Democrats is that “we’re not talking about this in a way that’s resonating with people, and particularly not with Black voters.” He continued, “We’ve got to do it fast because there’s only 207 days left until the most important election of our lifetimes.”

He added, “If we lose that election, it’s because we didn’t tell our own story. We have nobody to blame but ourselves.”

Master’s degree programs at the Emory University Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing are once again the best in the nation, according to U.S. News and World Report’s 2024-2025 ranking of graduate schools.

The school’s Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Master of Nursing (MN) programs claimed the No. 1 spot for the second consecutive year, and its Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program retained its No. 6 standing from 2023. Last September,   U.S. News   ranked the school’s undergraduate programs No. 3 nationwide.

“It takes a team to achieve this level of excellence in consecutive years, and I’m grateful to our school community for the work that has brought us to this place,” says Dean Linda McCauley, PhD, RN, FAAN, FRCN. “While the rankings are gratifying, what they represent in terms of student preparation, research excellence, and clinical expertise is the most rewarding. We intend to keep raising the bar for our students, the nursing profession, and the patients and communities who benefit from our efforts.”

Multiple graduate specialties at the School of Nursing were also ranked nationally, including: 

• DNP Gerontology-Primary Care – No. 3
• MSN Adult Primary Care Nurse Practitioner – No. 3
• DNP Gerontology-Acute Care – No. 4
• MSN Acute Care Nurse Practitioner – No. 4
• MSN Family Nurse Practitioner – No. 4
• DNP Family Nurse Practitioner – No. 5

All specialties rose or maintained their ranking from last year, with the DNP gerontology-primary care program rising to No. 3 from No. 6.

The school’s rankings reflect tremendous growth, with enrollment increasing by 38% and total research funding growing from $12.8 million to $32.3 million over the past five years. The school has been in the top five among all nursing schools in National Institutes of Health grant funding for nine consecutive years and has amassed more than $8.6 million in Health Resources and Services Administration community partnership grants.

Section 5 – Disclaimer of Warranties and Limitation of Liability.

• Unless otherwise separately undertaken by the Licensor, to the extent possible, the Licensor offers the Licensed Material as-is and as-available, and makes no representations or warranties of any kind concerning the Licensed Material, whether express, implied, statutory, or other. This includes, without limitation, warranties of title, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, absence of latent or other defects, accuracy, or the presence or absence of errors, whether or not known or discoverable. Where disclaimers of warranties are not allowed in full or in part, this disclaimer may not apply to You.
• To the extent possible, in no event will the Licensor be liable to You on any legal theory (including, without limitation, negligence) or otherwise for any direct, special, indirect, incidental, consequential, punitive, exemplary, or other losses, costs, expenses, or damages arising out of this Public License or use of the Licensed Material, even if the Licensor has been advised of the possibility of such losses, costs, expenses, or damages.
