Gin Blossoms and Toad the Wet Sprocket Announce Summer 2024 Tour

Gin Blossoms have announced a co-headlining tour with Santa Barbara’s Toad the Wet Sprocket . Joining the alternative rock bands on tour are special guests Vertical Horizon. See the groups’ tour schedule below.

In a press statement, Gin Blossoms singer Robin Wilson said, “We have a lot of history with Toad the Wet Sprocket and Vertical Horizon, and it’s always fun to perform with them.” He continued, “I know our fans and theirs will enjoy the shows. I’m looking forward to an awesome summer of fine rock.”

Toad the Wet Sprocket added, “In August of 1992, we embarked on our first headlining shows where we got to pick an opening band for the whole tour. There was a tremendous amount of buzz about a band from Arizona called Gin Blossoms. A mutual friend had given us an advance copy of their first EP, Up and Crumbling , back in 1991, and we all loved it. That tour was the beginning of over 30 years of us playing shows together. There was always a spirit of friendly competition between our two bands, and also wonderful support for each other as the audience for this music continued to grow. As we celebrate the 30th anniversary of our album Dulcinea , it is fitting that we mark this milestone with some of the best friends we made along the way.”

Toad the Wet Sprocket shared their latest album, Starting Now , in August 2021, and Vertical Horizon issued The Lost Mile in February 2018.

Gin Blossoms most recently released Mixed Reality in June 2018. Read the new Sunday Review of 1992’s New Miserable Experience .

Gin Blossoms and Toad The Wet Sprocket to Kick Off 2024 Tour

by Em Casalena March 16, 2024, 10:57 am

Gin Blossom fans were left with a bit of disappointment back in 2022 when the band had to cut their New Miserable Experience 30th Anniversary Tour short after bassist Bill Leen suffered a broken arm. The band went on a brief tour with Sugar Ray last year, but some fans might have missed it. Luckily, it looks like the band is finally back on tour again this year!

Toad The Wet Sprocket

Toad The Wet Sprocket – the trio of founding members Glen Phillips, Todd Nichols, and Dean Dinning – are still making new music and touring with the same spirit and independence that started it all, over three decades ago. This year marks a new milestone in their journey with the 30th anniversary of the 1994 platinum-selling album Dulcinea.

After the success of fear (1991) the band re-teamed with producer Gavin MacKillop, to create a new body of work that would become their album Dulcinea, and sequestered themselves in a residential studio in Marin County, CA. Inspired by the sound they had developed from their recent touring, the band tracked the record mostly live in a huge room lit by hundreds of candles. With minimal overdubs, the album comes across as an honest document of a stunning batch of songs, some of which had the benefit of having been already played on the road.

Dulcinea arrived in 1994 and was certified platinum followed by a tour in which the band played over 80 headlining shows, with openers as diverse as Milla Jovovich and Hootie & the Blowfish in their first national tours. The first single “Fall Down” (with a video directed by Samuel Bayer of “Smells Like Teen Spirit” fame) spent 6 weeks at number one on the Billboard Modern Rock chart. “Something’s Always Wrong” was featured in the movie “fear”, and had a groundbreaking music video that put the band on the Home Shopping Network selling themselves to the lowest bidder. A highlight of the Dulcinea era was playing the NOW rally in Washington, DC in April of 1995, a performance that put the band in front of a million people and was nationally broadcast.

Crediting their success to the unwavering support of their fans, Toad the Wet Sprocket are celebrating Dulcinea throughout the year on tour – including a co-headline summer tour with the Gin Blossoms, a fall tour with Barenaked Ladies and throughout the year additional headline dates in select markets. Limited edition commemorative Dulcinea merchandise will be available at the band’s online store and on all tour dates, as well as a limited quantity of Dulcinea on vinyl that will be a repressing of the original.

Throughout their career, Toad the Wet Sprocket has remained committed to creating music that is both meaningful and accessible. Their songs are filled with introspective lyrics, melodic guitars, and vocal harmonies that have resonated with fans for decades.T hroughout their career, Toad the Wet Sprocket has remained humble and grateful for the loyal support of their incredible fans. This is the fuel that inspires the band to continue creating music and performing live to this day.

toad the wet sprocket tour 2024

The Gillioz Theatre recently announced two nationally-touring rock acts with tickets going on sale soon.

Pre-sale tickets for Toad the Wet Sprocket end on Thursday. Tickets for Big Head Todd and the Monsters go on sale soon. All tickets will be available for purchase on the Gillioz Theatre website.

Who is Toad the Wet Sprocket?

Toad the Wet Sprocket is an alternative rock band from Santa Barbara, California. Formed in 1986, the band consists of Glen Phillips, Todd Nichols, Dean Dinning and Randy Guss. Guss left the band in 2020 and was replaced by Josh Daubin. Today, the band is comprised of Phillips, Nichols and Dinning.

Knowing each other from San Marco High School, the band's founding members released their first album, "Bread and Circus" in 1989 under their own label, Abe's Records. The rock band's breakthrough came in 1991 with the release of their third album, "fear." Singles from the album, including "All I Want" and "Walk on the Ocean" reached the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album also went platinum.

Toad the Wet Sprocket broke up in 1998 but has continued to work together throughout the years. In 2011, the band released its first single in 11 years, a holiday song called "It Doesn't Feel Like Christmas."

The band released its most recent album, "Starting Now," in 2021 and this year marks the 30th anniversary of their 1994 platinum-selling album, "Dulcinea."

Who is Big Head Todd and the Monsters?

Originally from Boulder, Colorado, Big Head Todd and the Monsters is a rock band made up of Todd Mohr, Brian Nevin, Rob Squires and Jeremy Lawton.

The band released its first album, "Another Mayberry," in 1989 but it was the band's third studio album, "Sister Sweetly," that gained them widespread success. "Sister Sweetly" went platinum and three of its singles made the rock charts, including "Bittersweet," "Broken Hearted Savior" and "Circle."

Several of the rock band's singles have been featured in larger projects. Their song "In The Morning" was featured in the 1994 movie "Blown Away," and the band contributed "Tangerine" in the 1995 Led Zeppelin tribute album "Encomium: A Tribute to Led Zeppelin."

Big Head Todd and the Monsters will release its newest album, "Her Way Out," on May 31.

Southwest Florida Symphony's popular maestro resigns to take San Francisco job

toad the wet sprocket tour 2024

Less than two years later, Southwest Florida Symphony finds itself once again without a music director.

Naples resident Radu Paponiu has resigned as maestro of the Fort Myers-based professional orchestra, the orchestra announced Monday. He's moving to California to work as the new music director for the renowned San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra.

Paponiu was well-liked by the orchestra's musicians, said symphony CEO Amy Ginsburg in a news release announcing his departure.

“There was a unique and special chemistry between Radu and the musicians of our orchestra,” Ginsburg said in the release. “While this is a phenomenal opportunity for Radu to further his career, he will be deeply missed by all of us in the Southwest Florida Symphony family.

"We wish him and Blair all the success in the world. The San Francisco Symphony is so fortunate to count Radu and Blair among the exceptional talent in their ranks."

Radu Paponiu: Southwest Florida Symphony's sixth director

Paponiu was only the sixth music director in the orchestra’s 63-year history. Its previous director, Nir Kabaretti, left the orchestra in 2020 after leading it for six years.

The Southwest Florida Symphony hired Paponiu after a nearly three-year search . He officially started the job on July 1, 2022.

Paponiu's move comes after his wife, Blair Francis Paponiu, won the associate principal flute position with the San Francisco Symphony last year.

“I will forever cherish making music with the extraordinary musicians of the Southwest Florida Symphony and sharing it with our wonderful community," Paponiu said in the news release. "While excited about the opportunities ahead, I am also grateful for our work together and I will miss being a part of the Southwest Florida Symphony family."

Paponiu was also associate conductor of the Naples Philharmonic and music director of the Naples Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. He started his new job at Southwest Florida Symphony on July 1, 2022.

SWFL's opera queen: Steffanie Pearce launched Opera Naples, rebounded with Gulfshore Opera

The symphony's season ends May 18 with the concert "70s, 80s & 90s Unplugged." The orchestra will be joined by conductor/singer/guitarist Andrew Lipke on songs from Nirvana, 10,000 Maniacs, George Michael, Alanis Morissette, Toad the Wet Sprocket and more.

Theatres in Moscow

Cultural life of Moscow city is various and rich! Operas, ballets, symphonic concerts... Russian composers have created some of the most beautiful classical music. Russian classical music is very popular in Moscow. It is performed in many beautiful historical venues. Do not forget to include a visit to a concert hall in your itinerary when you are planning your stay in Moscow! And do it in advance.

There are almost no restrictions on dress code in Russian theatres. Visitors may wear jeans and sports shoes, they may have a backpack with them. Only shorts are not allowed.

A typical feature of Russian theatre – visitors are bringing a lot of flowers which they present to their favorite performers after the show.

Here are some practical advices where to go and how to buy tickets.

The Bolshoi Theatre

The Bolshoi Theatre is the oldest, the most famous and popular opera and ballet theatre in Russia. The word “Bolshoi” means “big” in Russian. You can buy a ticket online in advance, 2-3 months before the date of performance on the official website . Prices for famous ballets are high: 6-8 thousand rubles for a seat in stalls. Tickets to operas are cheaper: you can get a good seat for 4-5 thousand rubles. Tickets are cheaper for daytime performances and performances on the New Stage. The New Stage is situated in the light-green building to the left of the Bolshoi's main building. The quality of operas and ballets shown on the New Stage is excellent too. However, you should pay attention that many seats of the Bolshoi’s Old and New Stages have limited visibility . If you want to see the Bolshoi’s Old Stage but all tickets are sold out, you can order a tour of the theatre. You can book such a tour on the official website.

If you want, following Russian tradition, to give flowers to the performers at the end of the show, in the Bolshoi flowers should be presented via special staff who collects these flowers in advance.

In August the Bolshoi is closed.

The Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre

This theatre is noteworthy. On one hand, it offers brilliant classical opera and ballet performances. On the other hand, it is an experimental venue for modern artists. You can check the program and buy tickets online here http://stanmus.com/ . If you are opera lover, get a ticket to see superstar Hibla Gerzmava . The theatre has a very beautiful historic building and a stage with a good view from every seat. Tickets are twice cheaper than in the Bolshoi.

The Novaya Opera

“Novaya” means “New” in Russian. This opera house was founded in 1991 by a famous conductor Eugene Kolobov. Its repertoire has several directions: Russian and Western classics, original shows and divertissements, and operas of the 20th and 21st centuries. It is very popular with Muscovites for excellent quality of performances, a comfortable hall, a beautiful Art Nouveau building and a historic park Hermitage, which is situated right next to it. You can buy tickets online here http://www.novayaopera.ru/en .

Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Center

The Opera Center has become one of the best theatrical venues in Moscow. It was founded in 2002 by great diva Galina Vishnevskaya. Nowadays its artistic director is Olga Rostropovich, daughter of Galina Vishnevskaya and her husband Mstislav Rostropovich, great cellist and conductor. Not only best young opera singers perform here, but also world music stars do; chamber and symphonic concerts, theatrical productions and musical festivals take place here. You can see what is on the program here http://opera-centre.ru/theatre . Unfortunately “booking tickets online” is available in Russian only. If you need help, you can contact us at and we can book a ticket for you.

Tchaikovsky Concert Hall and The Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory

These are two major concert halls for symphonic music in Moscow. Both feature excellent acoustics, impressive interior, various repertoire and best performers. You can check the program here http://meloman.ru/calendar/ . You need just to switch to English. Booking tickets online is available only for owners of Russian, Ukrainian and Belorussian phone numbers. If you need help, you can contact us and we can book a ticket for you.

Moscow International Performing Arts Center (MIPAC)

This modern and elegant concert hall houses performances of national and foreign symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles, solo instrumentalists, opera singers, ballet dancers, theatre companies, jazz bands, variety and traditional ensembles. Actually, it has three concert halls placed on three different levels and having separate entrances. The President of MIPAC is People’s Artist of the USSR Vladimir Spivakov, conductor of “Virtuosy Moskvy” orchestra. You can see pictures of the concert halls here http://www.mmdm.ru/en/content/halls . The program is impressive in its variety but is not translated into English. You can contact us at and we can find a performance for you.
