TobyMac Hits Deep Tour 2020 Concert Review and Gallery

“The promise I’ve been holding on to is that God will never leave us or forsake us,” explained Christian hip hop artist TobyMac as he launched Hits Deep Tour 2020 last weekend. The 7X GRAMMY® winner expressed heartfelt thanks to everyone who prayed and extended messages of love and sympathy to his family since the loss of his son Truett last October.

His performance began with “The Elements,” where the audience of more than 8,000 at the Spectrum Center arena in Charlotte, NC was transported into a storm of lightning, thunder, and falling snow representing battles in life that challenge one’s faith. Then in the midst of fan favorites such as “I Just Need U.,” “Speak Life” with Ryan Stevenson, and “Me Without You,” TobyMac performs his heartrending new song “21 Years” which is about Truett’s passing. These and other moments from Hits Deep tour were captured by CCM Magazine’s Annette Holloway in the slideshow below.

Other highlights include Terrian singing her beautiful new single, “In the Arms,” and Aaron Cole , the first hip hop artist to win Dove Awards Artist of the Year, performing “Starts With Me” with TobyMac. For the confetti-filled finale “Feel It,” Tauren Wells joined the party on stage with powerful vocals and incredible energy to close out the night.

The amazing lineup in Charlotte included Tauren Wells, We Are Messengers, Ryan Stevenson, Aaron Cole, and Cochren & Co . ( Jordan Feliz joined the tour 3 days later.)

We’ve got the windy city covered., tobymac’s funk, pop and positivity “hits deep” on fiserv forum, plus corey asbury, mac powell, more.

For a guy who’s been going since the late 1980s as one third of rappers turned rockers DC Talk, it’s remarkable that TobyMac has retained his relevance as a solo artist who keeps topping the charts of Christian radio and even all of the Billboard 200.

Those who caught the self-proclaimed “Jesus Freak” headlining the “Hits Deep” Tour at Milwaukee’s Fiserv Forum, his closest visit to Chicago, could’ve easily mistaken what they heard as the sunny pop meets funk and R&B of Justin Timberlake or Bruno Mars, while the scope of the production matched any of today’s arena outings. 

Given the fact it comes after an extremely devastating loss, the death of his 21-year-old son by an accidental drug overdose, also makes it all the more relatable, though rather than wallow in despair, the multiple Grammy and Dove Award-winner made sure to let everyone know “Help Is On The Way.”

The faith-fueled sentiments continued throughout super splashy and brassy arrangements of “Everything,” “I Just Need U” and “Love Broke Thru,” accompanied by the multi-cultural and mega-talented backing cast known as Diverse City.

TobyMac and company moved through the many emotions of “Faithfully,” “City On Our Knees” and “The Elements” and others, which no matter where one falls on either side of the aisle, sure did feel like a non-stop party of pure positivity.

No less than five support acts made it feel like a mini-festival or Winter Jam, such as former Third Day front man Mac Powell, who’s instantly recognizable vocals were in mint condition throughout the group’s southern rocker “Soul On Fire” and the praise-filled “God Of Wonders,” alongside like-minded samples of the current “New Creation.”

Faithful were also introduced to relatively new singer/songwriters Tasha Layton, Terrian (a member of Diverse City) and Jon Reddick, who turned in short but engaging introductions to ensure the “Heavenbound” marathon never wavered in momentum.

Only 4 of us friends were on this tour so it was vy personalized by our excellent tour guide Carlos Rivera! Everything (transportation, hotels, meals, daily activities, etc.) was vy well organized. Hotels (especially in El Fuerte and El Divisadero) and 3 meals/day were excellent! The El Chepe train was on time and vy clean and comfortable, and must be one if the more spectaculat train trips in the world! This tour could not have been better and was well worth the cost. There were absolutely no safety or security concerns on this trip. Im ready to do it again and may do so with others In the future!

10 Days in Vietnam From South to North

We enjoyed the Ho Chi Minh City and Hoi An legs. Unfortunately on the day we were to fly to Hanoi my wife had a fall and broke her wrist, resulting in surgery and 3 nights in the Pacific Hospital. Hoi An Express were good in rearranging accommodation and internal flight so we managed to fly home on time. On the accident a contributing factor was the aesthetically pleasing but impractical/ dangerous design of the rooms at Almanity resort. Having tried to put us in a loft room (bed up steep stairs and the single bathroom downstairs. We are 70yo!) our "upgrade" was to a nicer single level room but with the bed on a completely unnecessary 30cm high highly polished and creaky wooden "plinth", off which my wife fell at 4.30 am trying to get to the bathroom. Lovely resort, stupid room design. The hotel in HCMC (Eastin) was very nice but it would be preferable to be closer to District 1 given we selected the 5* upgrade.

Best of the Adriatic

I concluded the UK/Ireland/France trip in mid-October and am still raving about it. Indus travel (specifically Rachel) did a wonderful job - very responsive and attentive to detail. Trip well-organized, very knowledgeable guides. Look forward to travelling with Indus again.

Best of the American West

Excellent tour! Our guide, Ken Black, was the best tour guide ever. He took us to the best places, made excellent hike recommendations depending on our interests and capabilities, made sure we were safe and had fun at all times!

It was such a fun and interesting tour! The tour guide was very knowledgeable and had lots of great tips to give. Super fun guy as well! The scenery and places we were taken to were great. I enjoyed every second of it.

3 Day Loch Ness & Skye

This tour really exceeded all expectations even after having read all other positive reviews beforehand! Countless stunning views, a looot of quality time and real authentic Scottish experiences like taking part in a traditional Ceilidh (a social gathering with group dances) or a magical, small private live folk concert in the two hostels that both work together with the guides. The hostels are on the most amazing spots and really are great accomodations. Our guide was not only very knowledgable about every part of the land and history that we came through (and is just an overall outgoing, super friendly and funny person), but was really able to make the best possible tour for the given time. Cheers to you Tim and thank you again for this simply amazing time that I was able to spent with you and the group. I will certainly never forget that!

Europe Escape

The trip was an absolute great taste of several Western European countries. We jammed a lot of itinerary into a twelve day trip. Overall, the accomodations and meals were favorable. I would like to make a suggestion. On the first day or the trip, we were walked for miles through the side streets of Venice. People were not ready for this level of exertion on the very frist day of the trip. Within days, I saw two women limping and wearing knee braces in order to walk. There were people utilizing canes to walk. I have Lupus and am prone to bouts of fatigue, especially when expoised to too much sun and heat. I would ask that the company appropriates a water taxi for the coach passengers that will drop them off at the dick right next to Piazza San Marco.rather than that grind of a walk throught the side streets. People want to see the Piazza, not the side streets That first miles long walk took its toll on many of the passengers. I even saw one women entering the coach and break into tears because of her pain level. Most of the people on this trip were in their fifties and sixties. I'm sure they were not expecting such a rigorous daily regiment. I'm 6' 6'' and 300+. I was averaging 10,000 to 15, 000 steps a day on on uneven cobblestone, and boy did it ever take its toll on my knees and joints. I'm still recovering from the achy knees. That's the only suggestion I have. Find a way to get the tourist from point A to B without having people on vacation walk for multiple miles. It's a vacation. You're not supposed to return home injured and in pain.

What people love about coach / bus tours.

This tour with Elite Travels was busy - so much to see in so little time. Hotels and food were great. Best part was Damir, our guide for the entire trip. I've taken many tours and he stands out as the best of them all. He was excellent in every way - in giving us clear instructions, telling us what to expect for the day, very patient, answered all out questions, and was very knowledgeable of the places we visited, including their histories. Our driver, Tatiana, was not just an expert driver, but very helpful and kind. Our English speaking local guides were all good, but I would point out Kristina as the best. She had all kinds of surprises for us, including giving me a dance lesson on a local dance and writing my name in cyrilic alphabet. Scars and stories from the war of the 1990s are heartbreaking but I deeply appreciated seeing and hearing them firsthand. Travel must be an educational experience of both the good and bad. So thank you, Elite Travels for a wonderful 10 day journey!
