Here's Where You Can Visit The Big Bang Theory's Set In Real Life

Jim Parsons with glasses

Sometimes, sets for a television show become so iconic, they're practically a character on the show. Who could forget the famous Central Perk couch from "Friends" or the neon-colored restaurant The Max from "Saved By the Bell"? With sets being so recognizable and beloved, sometimes they're too valuable to simply be torn down.

According to The Hollywood Reporter , collector James Comisar spent 20 years trying to get his hands on the set from "Cheers" to add to his collection for his as-yet undeveloped Museum of Television before finally getting it with the help of "Cheers" co-creator James Burrows. The Lucille Ball Desi Arnaz Museum had to recreate the sets from "I Love Lucy," and they seem to have done so with a stunning level of detail. After "Will & Grace" ended its original run in 2006, the show's co-creator Max Mutchnick donated the set to his alma mater, Emerson College. It was displayed in the library of the school's Boston campus before being moved to the school's Los Angeles campus in 2014 to make room in the library, according to Emerson's campus newspaper, the Berkeley Beacon .

"The Big Bang Theory" set was another one of those iconic sets, with the infamous broken elevator, the four flights of stairs, and the apartment that Sheldon and Leonard shared early in the series. So where can you visit the set of this popular sitcom? Well, Sheldon might not appreciate us telling you because you might sit in his spot on the couch, but we'll tell you anyway.

It's on the Warner Bros. studio tour

According to The Wrap , shortly after "The Big Bang Theory" ended its 12-season run, the set was added to the Warner Bros. studio tour in Los Angeles. "To say goodbye to the show and to that stage was really difficult," executive producer Steve Holland told The Wrap. "It feels great to know that people care about it enough that they want to come visit, and also that it's there so we can stop by and visit it from time to time." You won't have to make the arduous climb up the stairs past that broken elevator to get to the set, though. Glamour did a tour of the set in 2015 and found that not only do the stairs go nowhere; there's only one flight of them that they reused to make it look like the characters were walking up multiple floors.

"The Big Bang Theory" isn't the only television show set you can visit on the tour. According to the preview video on the Warner Bros. studio tour website, the tour also includes the sets of such beloved shows as "Gilmore Girls" and "Friends."

That's not the only honor bestowed upon the famous set of "The Big Bang Theory." According to the previously mentioned article from The Wrap, after the show ended in 2019, the stage where they shot the show, Stage 25, was officially renamed "The Big Bang Theory Stage," making it one of only five stages at Warner Bros. to be named after the show that was shot there. The other four shows to receive this honor were "ER," "Friends," "Two and a Half Men," and "Ellen." So it would seem that the set of "The Big Bang Theory" is in very good company amongst these prestigious shows.

Starting June 28, fans can visit Sheldon and Leonard’s apartment — and even sit in Sheldon’s designated “spot” — on the Warner Brothers Studio Tour, along with other sets from “The Big Bang Theory.” After 12 seasons of filming on the lot, the WB sitcom and its sets are the newest addition to the tour, which gives guests a behind-the-scenes look at the Burbank lot.

Tour guests can see the original sets for apartment 4A, the CalTech physics lab cafeteria and the infamous broken elevator. Costumes worn by Sheldon (Jim Parsons), Leonard (Johnny Galecki), Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and the larger cast will also be on display.

“For 12 seasons and 279 episodes, the cast and crew of ‘ The Big Bang Theory’ found their home away from home on these sets,” said Chuck Lorre, co-creator of the show.

“To say goodbye to the show and to that stage was really difficult. It feels great to know that people care about it enough that they want to come visit, and also that it’s there so we can stop by and visit it from time to time,” said Steve Holland, an executive producer.

The addition to the studio tour comes after the sitcom earned another Warner Bros. accolade. Stage 25, where the show was shot, was officially renamed “The Big Bang Theory Stage” in February, as the  “The Big Bang Theory” is one of five shows in Warner Bros. 95-year history to get a named stage, joining “Friends,” “ER,” “Two and a Half Men” and “Ellen.”

When asked how the pop-culture-obsessed main characters of the show would feel about being included on the tour, frequent guest star Wil Wheaton was clear: “I think it would drive Sheldon crazy. He would be super upset that thousands of strangers were walking past his couch.”

The Burbank lot offers studio tours year-round, and the tours also feature sets and props from “Friends,” the DC Universe and the Harry Potter franchise.

Forget the Friends couch: the Warner Bros. Studio Tour will soon offer a much cooler place to rest your bum.

Beginning June 28, fans who visit the famed Burbank lot will get to experience the set of The Big Bang Theory up close and personal. That includes the chance to literally step into apartment 4A, the original living space of Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Leonard (Johnny Galecki). That’s the home of the infamous leather couch, where Sheldon routinely called dibs at the one end. Yep, you can sit and take selfies!

There will also be photo ops in the foyer between apartments 4A and 4B, where visitors will be able to recreate Sheldon’s signature knock. The Big Bang section of the tour will be topped off with the CalTech Physics Lab Cafeteria where Leonard, Sheldon, Howard (Simon Helberg), and Raj (Kunal Nayyar) had lunch. Costumes from the show will be on display as well.

“For 12 seasons and 279 episodes, the cast and crew of The Big Bang Theory found their home away from home on these sets on Stage 25,” said co-creator and executive producer Chuck Lorre in a statement. “We’re thrilled that Apartment 4A and other Big Bang locales will remind visitors of all the laughter that took place on our show.”

The Warner Bros Studio Tour also includes sets and artifacts from Friends , Batman, Shameless, Casablanca, Aquaman, and Wonder Woman, among others.

TBBT ended its storied, 12-season run on CBS last month.

The very last stop on the tour will be Stage 48. It is at this self-guided location where you will find three sets from The Big Bang Theory. You are able to take your own photos but since they are trying to sell you photos they can tend to be picky about which angles you use. I highly recommend coming prepared with your own Big Bang Theory shirts .

By Jessica Radloff

Welcome to Stage 25! That's where The Big Bang Theory tapes on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, California—and where my fellow journalists from the Television Critics Association winter press tour got to visit the other week. Come along!

Let's start with the most important piece of the puzzle: Sheldon and Leonard's couch. Unfortunately, Chinese food is not included.

Whereas Sheldon has his spot on the couch, Leonard mainly sits in this single chair (with Penny sitting on one of the arms).

If you go down the hallway past Sheldon's and Leonard's bedrooms, you'll find the bathroom, which is partially furnished. The other part leads to pretty much nothing.

‘Big Bang Theory’ star Mayim Bialik says 'Quiet on Set' allegations 'wasn’t just happening at Nickelodeon’

Mayim Bialik, who started her career as a child actor on the series "Blossom," is weighing in on the explosive "Quiet on Set" documentary.

In the latest episode of her podcast, " The Breakdown ," she spoke with her "Blossom" co-star Jenna van Oy and "Even Stevens" star Christy Carlson Romano about watching the five-part series and how it related to their experiences.

"Never did I ever think I was going to encounter anything like what I encountered," Bialik said of watching the documentary.

Early in the podcast, Bialik and van Oy focused on the allegations against Dan Schneider who, while working as a showrunner and executive producer on several Nickelodeon shows, was accused of discrimination against women and creating a toxic work environment.

NICKELODEON FORMER CHILD STAR EXPOSES ALLEGED SEX ABUSE IN BOMBSHELL DOCUMENTARY

Van Oy said Schneider’s alleged behavior wasn’t much different than "things that I heard about other sets during our time."

Bialik added, "Women being berated in the writers' room is something that was just like — I’m sorry — it was considered in — I mean, I hate to say it — it’s considered par for the course. I will say I do not believe that happened in our writers' room… and there were things that we all thought were OK to even joke about, which now we’d be mortified."

"The Big Bang Theory" star and her guests also addressed the sexual assault and abuse claims made by Drake Bell.

Bialik recalled her own experience, saying, "To have been spared that kind of trauma and to know that it was going on and that it was going on right under our noses, and not only was it going on, it was going on with people then being hired on other shows after being convicted… this was so much a part of an acceptable way to run a business. That felt like the most devastating thing, and it wasn’t just happening at Nickelodeon."

Later in the episode, Romano said "I can understand the survivor’s guilt mindset of this, because that could have been any one of us, and we all kind of need to grieve together, I think at this point, and sort of come together to try to figure out what now."

A segment from Romano’s discussion on the episode was previously released, where she explained why she did not participate in the documentary or watch the finished product.

She opted out from viewing it because, "I think it’s extremely triggering. I’ve made a choice for several reasons to opt out of choosing to watch that imagery. I know a lot of the details, I know a lot of the folks involved. I’ve been living this on the advocacy side of things, gently, I will say gently because I’ve actually been opening up about my own experiences, not in the survivor space…because this is specifically handling that very important space of assault."

"I've chosen not to speak about this with anybody, including ID, who originally came to me looking to see if I'd be interested in a doc like this. I don't know if it was this doc ['Quiet on Set']. But I was approached when I first started advocating three years ago for my own YouTube channel with my own experiences that I did in different and separate episodes, so to speak."

'QUIET ON SET' DIRECTORS SAY THEY WERE 'CLEAR' WITH PARTICIPANTS AFTER MARC SUMMERS' 'AMBUSH' ALLEGATION

She continued, "I started to be approached by many reality-show-type producers, and they were like, 'Hey, how do we do this?' and I would combat them with saying, 'Hey, guys, the only way we would do this is if we talk about how do we fix it?'"

Romano took issue with the documentary’s approach, saying, "[Fellow child actor] Alyson Stoner, who is a fantastic advocate in this space, has really impinged upon me the importance of understanding trauma porn."

"These are people who don’t belong to our community," Romano said. "These are outsiders. And maybe they, maybe if they knew where to put money towards [fixing] a problem, they would, but again, a lot of this has been perceived in a way that’s — it’s outside baseball. It’s not inside baseball, it’s outside baseball. These are trauma tourists."

Bialik agreed with feeling uncertainty about the documentary’s approach, in regard to its two main focal points, Schneider’s treatment of cast and crew and Bell’s alleged assault.

"If the insinuation is that one thing leads to another, that’s actually not necessarily true, and I also don’t know if it’s helpful," she said. "For me, the most powerful part of this entire experience… is because I’m unsure if there’s a way to have hope when the system is designed to gain the maximum compliance from children who are performers for the maximum profit."

Later in the episode, Bialik discussed her gratitude for the slowly shifting culture in the industry.

"You’re watching what the entire culture was like. This is not what happened because ‘Nickelodeon this-that.’ That’s not what the documentary brought up for me. Of course, it touched me personally. Of course it did. But what it also reminded me of is how far we had to come to get to a place where people like Christy get to advocate, and we know what she means when she says the mental health of children on sets matters and there are things that we can do to make sure that there are no exceptions. ‘You don’t get to push that child.’ And if the mother says it’s OK, guess what the mother’s wrong. Because we don’t get to push that child past when they can work."

Romano added, "I encourage people to keep talking about this as long it’s coming from a place of kindness and inclusion," and said earlier, "We’re all still processing this as a community… People need to be kind and patient with one another right now."

Annie Potts Says Goodbye to 'Young Sheldon' In Emotional Set Video

The series finale airs next month on May 16.

The Big Picture

  • Young Sheldon ends with an emotional series finale special on May 16, featuring appearances from Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik.
  • Annie Potts, who plays Meemaw in the series, shared an emotional video saying goodbye to Young Sheldon and her character.
  • Young Sheldon is a family-oriented show that has seen its young cast grow on-screen, creating a bond like a real family.

It has been an incredible ride for fans of Young Sheldon as the CBS fan-favorite comedy series comes to an end next month. The series ends with an hour-long series finale special on May 16, which will feature appearances from Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik , co-stars from the flagship series, The Big Bang Theory . The prequel series premiered in 2017, and has since aired over 100 episodes across seven seasons. With filming on the final season wrapping , the cast of the prequel have been saying their farewells, with Iain Armitage and Raegan Revord already sending fitting tributes. Now, another star of the series, Annie Potts, has shared her thoughts regarding the end of the series.

Taking to her official Instagram account , Potts shared a video saying goodbye to Young Sheldon . In what was an emotional clip, Potts who plays Meemaw to the Cooper kids in the series, says she was putting on her "Meemaw make-up on" for the last time, as she gets ready to shoot her final scene alongside Craig T. Nelson , who plays her partner, Dale in the comedy series. While acknowledging that she is sad to leave her "friends...my family," Potts says she is grateful to have had the opportunity to embody the beloved character.

Young Sheldon will end with a special episode for its final outing which Parsons has described as "beautiful" and "sweet." After The Big Bang Theory prequel wraps, CBS is set to expand the iconic universe with the addition of the Georgie (Montana Jordan) and Mandy (Emily Osment) multi-camera show that is set to come in 2024/2025. The show is set to begin filming in the summer , with Osment teasing her character's evolution saying, "She doesn't want to just be a stay-at-home mom."

The 'Young Sheldon' Cast Is a Family

As highlighted in Potts' clip, Young Sheldon is a family-oriented show which has been especially emphasized during the final season of the show . When the show began, much of the series' main cast was little, and we had seen them grow on-screen. This is something not lost on Potts' who feels like "we feel like we had a hand in raising them," saying:

"My God, they all turned out so beautiful and so sweet, and we feel like we had a hand in raising them … When we started out, they would sit in my lap and just play with my fingers and kiss me and tell me they love me all day long. That, and they still do actually. They're a little big for my lap, but they still love me and kiss me all day long and tell me they love me. That's not a bad way to live."

The final episode of Young Sheldon airs on May 16. Past seasons are streaming now on Paramount+ in the U.S. Watch Potts' video below.

Young Sheldon star Iain Armitage shares his reaction to having Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik on set, reprising their roles from The Big Bang Theory.

Young Sheldon’s Cancellation Questioned By Star: “We’re The Number One Show”

"we were totally ambushed": young sheldon star expands her criticism of show's cancellation.

  • Iain Armitage found having Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik on Young Sheldon season 7's finale playing their characters felt like a reunion of sorts.
  • Parsons and Bialik are confirmed to return as older versions of Sheldon and Amy from The Big Bang Theory in the spinoff's final episode.
  • Armitage described it as surreal to watch Parsons reprise his role as Sheldon, but he was happy it felt so natural for the star.

Young Sheldon star Iain Armitage has opened up about what it was like to have Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik on the set of the prequel series, reprising their roles from The Big Bang Theory . Parsons portrayed an older version of Sheldon in the original sitcom, which later inspired the spinoff where Armitage brought the character's younger years to life. Both Parsons and Bialik - who plays Amy - have been confirmed to return in the series finale of the current show in the franchise.

Speaking with Variety , Armitage spoke about what it was like to have Parsons and Bialik on set for the end of Young Sheldon season 7. The actor explained what it was like watching Parsons in particular portray Sheldon after so many years, while also teasing how well-acted their scenes are going to be. Check out what Armitage had to say below:

It was incredible. It felt like a reunion, getting to see them back together. They know each other so well and act so well together. They knew each other’s cues, which was wonderful to see. I think Mister Jim and Miss Mayim both quite enjoyed it, so that’s nice. It was definitely surreal [watching Parsons play Sheldon]. I think it was weird and cool and interesting. He said that in a good way, he felt like a guest on our set. I was happy that it didn’t feel too weird or out of the ordinary for him. That’s all I can ask for.

How Parsons & Bialik’s Return Can Give Young Sheldon A Fitting End

With Parsons and Bialik joining the cast of Young Sheldon for the show’s final episode, it’s clear the spinoff’s ending is going to heavily tie into The Big Bang Theory . This implies the older version of the franchise’s main character will be shown reminiscing on his past, possibly alongside Amy, explaining his voiceover throughout the show. No matter how his return plays out, though, it's clear the major purpose of it will be to tie both shows together while offering the prequel a proper series finale, giving the younger Sheldon the sendoff he deserves.

It has already been confirmed the final season will feature important elements of the core character's younger years, such as George Sr's impending death. A moment like this could warrant a physical appearance by Parsons , especially given how important this part of the show is going to be. Although that would mean saving his father's death until the very last episode, it would still make for a fitting point in the show where the older version of Sheldon finally appears in the flesh.

By having Parsons and Bialik show up during the final episode, Young Sheldon season 7 promises fitting closure to its main character's story, closing this chapter in the franchise in a meaningful way. However, it won't mark the end of The Big Bang Theory universe, as a Georgie and Mandy spinoff has been confirmed to air once the current comedy is complete. Even so, this could be the last of Sheldon's central role in the universe , making it important for Parsons and Bialik to be there for the prequel's finale.

Young Sheldon airs Thursdays on CBS.
