One of the oldest civilisations in the world, India is a mosaic of multicultural experiences. With a rich heritage and myriad attractions, the country is among the most popular tourist destinations in the world. It covers an area of 32, 87,263 sq. km, extending from the snow-covered Himalayan heights to the tropical rain forests of the south. As the 7th largest country in the world, India stands apart from the rest of Asia, marked off as it is by mountains and the sea, which give the country a distinct geographical entity.
Fringed by the Great Himalayas in the north, it stretches southwards and at the Tropic of Cancer, tapers off into the Indian Ocean between the Bay of Bengal on the east and the Arabian Sea on the west. As you travel the expanse of the country, you are greeted by diverse nuances of cuisines, faiths, arts, crafts, music, nature, lands, tribes, history and adventure sports. India has a mesmeric conflation of the old and the new. As the bustling old bazaars rub shoulders with swanky shopping malls, and majestic monuments accompany luxurious heritage hotels, the quintessential traveller can get the best of both worlds. Head to the mountains, enjoy a beach retreat or cruise through the golden Thar, India has options galore for all.

India Design System aims to be an exhaustive catalogue of freely downloadable signage ranging from government logos to common public symbols, hospital signages, and traffic signs that are essential to social infrastructure in India. Why should the traffic sign for U-turn be different in different Indian states? Why do people stretch Aadhar logos to use in their presentations? Why don't we have a common design language and system in our country. Our endeavour is to help make the task of designing for the people in India, easy and time-saving for designers and creative professionals, consultants, printers and agencies designing communication material for public. Incredible India – ENG
Portraying the beauty of India as an attractive tourist destination by highlighting its rich culture and glorious history, Incredible India is an international tourism campaign that has been run by the Government of India since 2002. The campaign was conceptualized by Shri Amitabh Kant, the then Joint Secretary to Tourism Department. Indian actor Shri Aamir Khan was commissioned to endorse the campaign, titled “Atithi Devo Bhava”, which is Sanskrit translation for “Guests are like God”. Atithi Devo Bhava was aimed at creating awareness about the effects of tourism and sensitising the local population about the preservation of India’s heritage, culture, and hospitality. In 2017, veteran actor Shri Amitabh Bachchan and actress Smt. Priyanka Chopra were chosen as the new brand ambassadors for the Incredible India campaign.
The Incredible India Logo was conceptualized by Shri Amitabh Kant, along with his counterparts. The exclamation mark in the Logo forms the letter ‘I” of India and was used creatively across several visuals, which compliments the concept behind the word “Incredible”.

The first marketing initiative of its kind, Incredible India was conceptualized in 2002. The team behind the campaign was V Sunil from O&M Delhi and Amitabh Kant from Ministry of Tourism. The whole campaign was aimed at branding to create a distinctive identity for the country. The exercise resulted in the iconic Incredible India logo. The Department of Tourism team was behind the conceptualization of the logo involving V.K. Duggal, Rathi Vinay Jha and Aitabh Kant.
Meaning of Incredible India Logo
In 2004, the Ministry of Tourism in India initiated the glorious “Incredible India” campaign with the main theme of “ Atithi Devo Bhava ”meaning ‘Guest is God’; with an aim to create a sensitivity towards tourists visiting India and the stakeholders facilitating the development of tourism in India. The exclamation mark forms the ‘I” of India. The exclamation used creatively across several visuals compliments the concept behind the word “Incredible” (Source: D’source, IIT Bombay) .
Exclamation sign in Incredible India logo was used to great effect across all communications. The campaign successfully established India as a high-end tourist destination, generating a 16% increase in tourist traffic in the first year. (Source: incredibleindiacampaign.com). The campaign execution was mainly done in foreign markets in both print and digital media. Some of the work with creative use of Incredible Indian Logo can be viewed on their website .

Harnessing the momentum created by the recovery of the global industry, preferential sentiment from global travelers for exploring India and building upon the success in growing tourism in India over the years–the Tourism Ministry is on a mission to unlock the untapped potential of tourism in India, making India a 365-day destination.
Encouraging the inbound travel and particularly in the backdrop of India’s G20 Presidency as well as grand celebrations of India@75 Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Ministry of Tourism is celebrating this year as ‘Visit India Year 2023’. The focus is on inbound travel to India, to highlight varied tourism offerings of our country and showcase them to the global tourists. The priorities include highlighting the unique tourism offerings of every state by leveraging country’s richness in culture, heritage, spirituality, natural beauty and focusing on promoting diverse categories of tourism like sustainable tourism, rural tourism, medical tourism, MICE, and others.
The Ministry is geared to make great strides in improving both the infrastructure and other framework conditions impacting the growth of tourism within the year. To achieve synergies in the Ministry’s efforts and requirements of the tourism sector, the Ministry of Tourism is working with all the relevant ministries and government agencies, partners, travel and trade industry, state governments and tourism boards, and key stakeholders which have influence and impact on tourism.
India’s G20 presidency presents itself as a fantastic opportunity to highlight the country’s tourism offerings on a global stage. The Ministry plans to unlock this global campaign, by starting at home – inspiring citizens into being India’s ambassadors with pride-evoking citizen advocacy campaigns across the year in the backdrop of India’s G20 presidency leveraging the engagements across the G20 meeting cities.
The ‘Incredible India’ brand will continue to be leveraged, embellished, and polished to match the renewed expectations of travelers around the world. The plans for the brand to be supported by a best-in-class digital ecosystem are already in action including a reimagined website that will unbox soul-stirring stories across various travel experience categories that show the many hues of India, speaking to all senses with immersive tech-innovations to offer personalized experience for travelers across the world. The brand platform will also see renewed global social media outreach of Incredible India, making the world fall in love with India. To further harness the power of content the Ministry will be launching the signature newsletter that will take India’s voice across the globe, regaling the world with India’s unheard stories through new unique mouthpiece and leveraging voices that shape opinions in the industry. Getting on-board partnerships and collaborations that become the voices of Incredible India - global influencers, opinion shapers, industry leaders, experts on culture and history etc. all with a special focus on Rural Tourism and Sustainable Tourism with a spotlight on a modern, progressive India and reactivates the MICE segment to a business-ready India.
Giving a visual representation to this grand mission for the year, today the Ministry flags the global campaign with the launch of the new Visit India Year 2023 logo, a microcosm of the countless stories India holds – from heritage to gastronomy to our art and our rich wildlife. The logo design is inspired by our belief system of Atithi Devo Bhava, the ‘Visit India Year 2023’ logo is a thoughtfully-designed visual identity that is shaped like a grand namaste. Namaste holds cultural significance in India as it is not just a quintessential way to greet people but also a noble gesture to welcome them. Here, by folding our hands, India and its citizens are inviting the world to visit India. But there is more to the logo than meets the eye. On a closer look, one will find that the Namaste is in fact a colourful medley of the vibrant experiences, illustrious heritage, rich culture, sumptuous delicacies, enchanting wildlife, intricate art forms and a lot more that India stands for. Every icon shown in the logo represents India, in its own unique way. The ‘Visit India Year 2023’ logo is an open invitation to the world to come and experience the Incredible India.
In the larger scheme of things, this is just the beginning and much more to come as India invites the world like never before and many exciting initiatives planned for the year ahead. The Ministry is excited to kick start this global campaign set to bring about immense positive impact on the tourism sector and appeal all related industries, businesses, and authorities to leverage the momentum to showcase their strengths and help exhibit a spectacle for the world to witness the incredibleness of India.

As part of the initiative, the Ministry will also work to improve infrastructure and other framework conditions that will have an impact on tourism growth this year. They are already working on plans to support the brand with a digital ecosystem, including a reimagined website that will unbox soul-stirring stories across various travel experience categories, showcasing the diverse facets of India. This platform aims to engage all senses through immersive tech innovations, providing personalized experiences for travelers worldwide.
- To launch a signature newsletter
Incredible India’s global social media outreach will also be expanded on the brand platform. The Indian Historical Records Commission (IHRC) has adopted a new logo and motto. These were selected from the 436 entries received in the online competition organised by the IHRC on MyGov portal.
The winning logo and motto of the IHRC were designed by Shaurya Pratap Singh of Delhi.
The logo shape resembles the lotus petals, representing the resilient nodal institution for maintaining historical records, said the Press Information Bureau (PIB) in a statement. The Sarnath pillar in the middle of the logo is reminiscent of India’s ancient past, while the brown colour theme emphasises the IHRC’s mission of preserving, studying, and honouring India’s historical records, it added.
The motto of the IHRC is ‘Where history is preserved for the future’. The motto emphasises the IHRC’s role in identifying, collecting, cataloging, and maintaining historical documents, manuscripts, and other sources of historical information.
The Indian Historical Records Commission (IHRC) plays a significant role in preserving and making available historical documents for future generations. The Commission’s efforts are aimed at ensuring that India’s rich cultural heritage is accessible to present and future generations.
