Have been given a good price with travel lab but not sure if the company is alright. They have ABTA number but cannot see ATOL so being a novice not sure if they are safe to go with.
Glad you have had a brilliant holiday. Thanks for the update. We have booked to travel next year- very good price and very good service so far.
Have you travelled yet? Has anyone had recent experience booking/travelling with them?
Many thanks
We have just got back from our fantastic honeymoon to kuramathi having booked with jai from travel lab, everything went perfectly even after changing our original holiday dates, got complimentary room upgrade too, great company and will definately book with them again when we look to return to paradise ;-)
We used Jai at TravelLab for our Kuoni holiday to Gangehi earlier this year. All I can say was he was brilliant with every aspect of the booking and we are currently getting quotes from him for next years Maldives holiday. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.
I have had quotes from Jai at Travel Lab for next year's Athuruga holiday. I've been in touch with a few agents, but Travel Lab was the best experience. One agent asked me for the quotes I'd had off other agents to see if they could beat them rather than just give me their lowest quote straight off, but Jai gave me his best prices straight away.
He's been very patient with my many questions and trying to get the price down with various options, and has always responded really quickly. I compared his quote against the same holiday with Kuoni and it was £700 cheaper from Jai.
I'm close to booking with Travel Lab, but feel a bit nervous as I've only ever booked holidays before with big-name agents such as Thomsons, Virgin, etc., and it's such a big amount of money.
Jtm - don't worry you'll be fine. If they have been helpful up to the booking, have a good reputation and you are happy with things then go for it. For any company make sure you check how you are protected - some agents are very upfront about this. Check their ATOL status. Also if you pay just part of your holiday amount (over £100) on your credit card then that should give you their protection. We usually pay our deposit on a credit card (but you usually have to pay a few quid extra in card charges). Finally, take out travel insurance - but check what cover you are paying for (how much it covers, what it covers). Annual policies usually work out cheaper and you get cover from when you book so you are covered for cancellation running up to your holiday (if they cover this).
Lynphd, thanks so much - that's brilliant advice.
Jtm I am also concerned - because the quote my partner got from Travel Lab was at least £400 cheaper than the closest match, and I'm left wondering, how? why? really???
I want to book our trip already, but unfortunately we are both TA junkies, and scour the resorts for reviews to help us make a decision. Also, after recent media coverage that suggests some TA accounts are fake, or planted, I am more nervous than ever over making a decision about the right resort for us... and at the right price.
We do have travel insurance, but I can see it would be worthwhile checking the ATOL status of any company before proceeding with a booking.

A TA member posted this company on here last week and after a couple of E Mails their prices are really competetive - and the customer service seems great - my question is this...has anyone actually booked with them and how were they to deal with.
Many Thanks
So we booked and we've got the receipt from Travellab and also the contract with Kuoni hope everything will be ok. I can not tell you how good they are until we come back in December, we are off to Maldives on the 25 november. doing 1 week on the Atoll Explorer and another week at the Athuruga.
Thank you. I know that - generally - if it seems to be good to be true etc but you're right, they have all the right credentials and are super efficient. I can't deny that they are far and away the cheapest agency I have found but really honest too! I have to book within the next couple of weeks so may have yo take the plunge.
you pay your money and take your chance, make sure you have insurance
Gosh, I'd forgotten about them. Times are tough!
DebsSouthWames - Have you considered going back to Dave at Blue Bay? Would be amazed if he can't at least match it.
Hi Kingsx3, yes I will pose this question to Dave on Tuesday ( when he's back in the office ) , he has been so helpful that I can't imagine at this point that he won't match it. Blue Bay do seem to have been around for a while as well and their customer service is - so far - faultless!
We in the end booked with Paula at holidaysplease who I would recommend thoroughly.
Hope that helps for you.
Now I am afraid that I may have made a mistake booking with them, well too late because we already paid the deposit. Unfortunately the price difference was quite a lot and I could not find anyone that would match it.
Also because it is a Kuoni holiday I thought it would be a safe deal, well I hope it will be ok this is the holiday of my dreams and I am working so hard to pay for it :-)
Why do you feel that you have made a mistake ?? With the exception of one post, I haven't heard anything negative...in fact the whole reason I posted in the first place was because of a glowing report ( can't remember where from unfortunately ).

Days after Mohamed Muizzu's election win, Chinese 'research' ship back in Maldives waters
The same chinese vessel was present near the india-maldives-sri lanka trilateral dosti-16 exercise that took place in the ocean near male between february 22 and 25..
- Updated Apr 27, 2024, 9:28 AM IST
A 4,500-tonne high-tech Chinese research ship is back in the Maldivian waters, two months after it spent a week docked at different ports in the island. Xiang Yang Hong 03 was docked at the Thilafushi industrial island's harbour, news portal Adhadhu.com said.
Maldives is, however, mum on the reason for the ship's return. But the government previously confirmed permission for the ship to dock before its first visit, it said, days after President Mohamed Muizzu, a pro-China leader-led People's National Congress won the general election, securing 66 out of the 93-member People's Majlis.

- 'Outcome of election shows...': Muizzu on winning ‘super majority’ in the parliamentary polls
Muizzu rode to power last year on an India Out' promise and with a super majority win in parliamentary polls on April 21, he has further consolidated his position.
The ship has now come back after skirting the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). Therefore, Xiang Yang Hong 03 has been active inside or near Maldives territory since January, it said. The ship had earlier docked on February 23 at the same Thilafushi port, about 7.5 km to the west of Male.
The hi-tech ship reached Maldivian waters on February 22 after spending about a month near the boundary of the Maldives' EEZ. About six days later, the ship went back to the EEZ boundary. In February, the Maldivian Foreign Ministry had said the Xiang Yang Hong 3 was here to make a port call, for the rotation of its personnel and replenishment after a diplomatic request was made by the government of China to the government of Maldives.
The vessel would not be conducting any research while in the Maldivian waters, the Foreign Ministry said on January 23. The Maldives' proximity to India, barely 70 nautical miles from the island of Minicoy in Lakshadweep and 300 nautical miles from the mainland's western coast, and its location at the hub of commercial sea lanes running through the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) gives it significant strategic importance.
Since 2019, China has also been using the vessel to conduct distant water' and deep sea' surveys at China's Pilot Ocean Laboratory. The vessel can also be used for studies on salinity, microbial genetic studies, underwater mineral exploration, and underwater life and environmental studies, it said. It has data buoys that can measure ocean currents, waves, and important environmental information. These buoys will provide real-time satellite information to the Chinese government, a report said.
On Friday, Adhadhu.com quoted China's State Oceanic Administration (SOA), which manages the Xiang Yang Hong 03, stating that the ship is the most modern vessel manufactured in the country for marine research. China says it is a comprehensive research vessel, meaning it is equipped for more than one task. According to China, the boat's endurance is 15,000 nautical miles, which means it could travel 15,000 nautical miles nonstop for its work without assistance. Incidentally, the same Chinese vessel was present near the India-Maldives-Sri Lanka trilateral Dosti-16 exercise that took place in the ocean near Male between February 22 and 25.

The Maldives is a group of Atolls with some 1,200 small islands between the equator and the coasts of India and Sri Lanka. There are a handful of locally inhabited islands and approximately 100 resorts, each on their own island. It is one of those places on the planet that look better in person than in a picture or brochure.

When we booked our honeymoon to Kuramathi for Dec 2012 we shopped around and i too found travelab to be the cheapest company by £50-£100, however when I gave these quotes to 2 other reputable companies (bluebay & holidaysplease) neither could match their very narrow 2% profit margin. Also there were issues with their atol or abta status - unsure which one to be honest.
