Best spas in Barcelona

AIRE Ancient Baths Barcelona

1.  AIRE Ancient Baths Barcelona

  • Health and beauty
  • Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera

A gift card to Barcelona’s Ancient Baths is one of those reliable presents that never disappoints. Few places can compete with facilities like these: saltwater, icy, cold, warm, hot and bubble pools, plus saunas and a hammam in a setting that honors Barcelona's ancient and medieval history. It’s so popular that booking can be difficult and, unlike other spas, there’s a time limit on your stay: two hours.

Mayan Secret Spa at Hotel Claris

2.  Mayan Secret Spa at Hotel Claris

  • Luxury hotels
  • Dreta de l'Eixample

We're not all about awards, but something has to be said for the fact that Mayan Secret Spa  has been crowned the best luxury historic hotel spa in the World Luxury Spa Awards every single year for five years. People love this place, and we can see why: Mayan offers facials, Maya-style massages, body treatments and more, and the building is worth a visit in itself.

3.  Homles Place Balmes

This gym on Balmes Street has a hot tub, sauna and Turkish baths for you to relax in after your workout. All massages at Homles Place are performed by physiotherapists, ensuring a personalised service with a high level of technique.

43 The Spa

4.  43 The Spa

  • La Vila Olímpica del Poblenou

Located right at the top of the Hotel Arts, on the 43rd floor no less, the hotel’s spa enjoys incredible views of the beach. There are two areas – one for women and one for men, although mixed couples can ask to be together when making the reservation – with a hydromassage pool, a hammam and a sauna in which to sweat to your heart’s content while gazing at the horizon. The spa offers beauty treatments from Spanish skincare brand Natura Bissé, as well as massages: put yourself in the capable hands of the expert therapists, and you’ll believe you’ve made it to heaven.

Mandarin Oriental Barcelona

5.  Mandarin Oriental Barcelona

Down-to-earth Barcelona is connected to Eastern luxury by a short walkway, and it’s the one that separates Passeig de Gràcia from the Mandarin Oriental, a temple to the concept of pampering, whose facilities, obviously, include a spa. And what a spa! After relaxing on a mosaic-encrusted recliner while your pores open up, and cruising a length of the 12-metre spa pool, a therapist will help you find your ideal treatment. Their signature service is the Oriental Essence, an ultra-relaxing massage during which you're daubed from head to feet with Quintessence oil, made with mandarin, ginger and frankincense. Pricey, but worth it.

The Royal Club Fitness

6.  The Royal Club Fitness

  • La Maternitat i Sant Ramon

It's good to be king. The spa in the Rey Juan Carlos I Hotel is just as prestigious and luxurious as the hotel itself, from the spacious and well-lit facilities to the charming staff. Once in the spa you'll see they've got it all: sauna, caldarium, cold and heated swimming pools, mild steam sauna, pressure showers and more. The décor harks back to the Roman origins of the public baths. Chill in the spa, get a massage and enjoy full use of its gym – or if you prefer, you can lounge in the pool with the Mediterranean as a backdrop.

Rituels d’Orient

7.  Rituels d’Orient

At Rituels d’Orient, a subterranean palace just off Diagonal with all the classic elements of the hammam, including two steam rooms and a cold-water pool with salts, a sepulchral silence reigns. Take the plunge and finish off with an Oriental exfoliation with a horsehair glove and black eucalyptus-scented soap. Under that rough surface you’ve been calling ‘skin’, there’s another layer that’s as smooth as velvet. For an authentic Moroccan experience, add a 40-minute massage with argan oil. It’s more expensive, but definitely more pleasurable.

Bali Spirit

8.  Bali Spirit

Enjoy a taste of Bali right here with the only traditional Balinese spa in our country. Bali Spirit Luxury Art Spa , created by artists and music composers, was awarded ‘Best Spa Concept’ in 2016. It draws inspiration from ancient Balinese traditions, blending the senses with art.

Natural Spa Hotel Fira Congress

9.  Natural Spa Hotel Fira Congress

Take a breather after a maddening trip to Ikea. Located in the middle of nowhere near the new Europa del Hospitalet square (in the Gran Vía 2 shopping centre), the Fira Congress is one of the luxury hotels that serve users of the new trade fair complex on Montjuïc. Its modern facilities include a hydromassage pool, warm hammocks, steam bath and gym, just make sure you book in advance. Entrance to the hydro centre is free when you take a treatment.

Serena Spa

10.  Serena Spa

The Serena Spa group has three spas in Barcelona, located within the Melià Barcelona Sky Hotel, the Melià Sarrià Hotel, and the Grums Hotel. They offer body massages, facial treatments, water circuits, and beauty treatments and much more.

Barcelona Travel Guide: 11 Beauty Spots to Visit in Spain’s Most Welcoming City

By Chris Ciolli

A massage client lies on a table at Alqvimia spa

All products are independently selected by our editors. If you buy something, we may earn an affiliate commission.

Apart from the soaring spires of Sagrada Familia and a few other wildly famous Gaudi creations sprinkled around the city, Barcelona, my adopted hometown, is pretty down to earth. Once, a visiting friend called it the Des Moines of Europe. When I asked her why, she shrugged. If I had to guess, it’d be that Barcelona is unassuming and packed with friendly people and good food, despite lagging a little behind on trends. That's probably why Barcelona’s not the first European destination that comes to mind when planning a beauty break abroad. But it should be.

With a wide selection of spas that soothe, studios and gyms where you can get your workout fix, not to mention stylish shops and salons on every other block, Barcelona is where beauty meets Mediterranean hospitality, tapas, and wine. So book your flight and leave plenty of room in your bag — you’ll want it for only-in-Europe beauty products. Keep reading for a few of my favorites.

Les Topettes

Run by a charming young local couple, Lucia and Oriol, Les Topettes is easily the cutest beauty shop on our list. It specializes in niche, harder-to-find perfumes and soaps, all beautifully presented in a bright and airy shop in Barcelona’s Raval neighborhood. My picks: Parisian Rhapsody solid perfume by Sabé Masson for $17 or Les Topette’s unisex in-house perfume, Lápiz (pencil in Spanish) for $74 with cedar, patchouli, and citrus notes.

Bottle of Les Topettes Barcelona perfume

Adonia Natural Cosmetics

Spain’s largest natural-beauty store doesn’t disappoint. With products from all around the world at a wide range of price points, it’s easy to get overwhelmed here. Even if you could afford it, you can’t bring everything back, but you really should grab Latvian beauty brand Màdara’s star product, SOS, a $40 tinted moisture and radiance mask that Adonia’s cofounder, Laure, tells me is a big seller among visiting makeup artists and aestheticians. For natural beauty made in Spain, pick up Matarrania’s hydrating olive oil products starting under $20.

Yes, I know there are Sephora’s everywhere; in Barcelona alone there are at least three within walking distance of where I live. That said, the Sephora between Plaza Universitat and Plaza Catalunya is massive — and massively fun. It’s got a flashy entryway full of mirrors and ads projected directly on the walls, and I routinely see locals and tourists alike posing in the not-just-for-kids slide that leads down to what Sephora calls a “Beauty Funland.” And equally important for tired travelers with low batteries: They have free wireless phone-charging stations throughout the store. Plus, you can totally touch up your makeup while you’re powering up.

If you want a massage therapist who will work the knots out of your muscles and balance your chakras, book at Alqvimia, where 30-minute aromatherapy massages start at $44. Hidden behind the brand’s main Barcelona storefront on bustling Rambla Catalunya, this serene, full-service spa and wellness center also does full-body treatments and facials (using Alqvimia’s own line of natural beauty products, of course), as well as overall health consultations with a doctor versed in traditional and homeopathic medicines. If nothing else, just pop in to grab a bottle of their very popular bust-firming oil.

Cowshed Spa at Soho House

With its cozy, vintage vibes and fun weekday combos like a relaxing 30-minute massage plus a two-course lunch and coffee at Cecconi’s restaurant for $57 (or a full hour for $91), Cowshed is my number-one choice for a fun spa get-together with friends. Best of all, it’s close to the action — only a short jaunt from La Rambla, Barcelona’s most famous street. They also have a heated pool for guests and a full range of Cowshed products on offer, including Cowpit, a natural deodorant that actually works.

Cowshed spa at Soho House Barcelona

Aire Ancient Baths Barcelona

Walking into this spa in Barcelona’s historic Borne neighborhood is like entering some kind of magical cave. Candlelight reflected in turquoise pools of water, exposed brick, soft-spoken staff outfitted in black uniforms explaining the circuit — everything comes together here to make for a very calming atmosphere. With hot, cold, warm, seawater, and massage pools, plus a hammam-style steam room, the circuit alone ($44 Monday through Thursday) is worth a visit, but I’d recommend booking a massage, too (from $65, spa circuit included).

A woman in a tub of red wine getting a head masage from a massage therapist surrounded by candles

Or for a much bigger chunk of change — $181 to be exact — splurge on the Wine Experience. It includes the full spa circuit, an hour long full body massage, and 30 minutes soaking in a restored 17th-century Venetian tub of red while your scalp and face are masked and massaged, plus a bottle of wine for actual drinking. After all of the above, you’ll be so blissed out you’ll forget how to spell your own name. If you’re socially inclined, reserve an afternoon or evening circuit; but if like me, you're more of an introvert, mornings are best.

Opera Lounge

One part hair salon, the other part art gallery, Opera Lounge is a fun and funky space to get your hair done and buy (or at least gawk at) original art in Barcelona. The skilled staff here speaks English — very important for avoiding any hair confusions. Led by Italian stylist Giovanni Lavorante, the stylists specialize in innovative and creative techniques using a full range of Aveda and Redken products.

Kolors Nail Bar

This teensy but popular nail bar has a manicure at every price point, with express manis starting as low as $15. But what makes Kolors truly unique is the rainbow of polishes available, many of them organic formulas, It’s a small operation though, so make an appointment — staff can’t always accommodate walk-ins.

Interior of Kolors nail salon with neon signs and nail polishes

Integral Nature for Hair

This hip salon is a little out of the way but worth the short trek from more centrally located neighborhoods. One of my favorite things about it is the gender-neutral prices. They're very reasonable (cuts from 20 Euros), they offer organic and henna hair color, and stylists are friendly and eager to help, even walk-ins who don’t speak the local language. For folks planning to spend any amount of time in Barcelona’s raging humidity, I 100 percent endorse their formaldehyde-free keratin treatment.

BCN Fitness

Wake up at 5 a.m.? No problem. Just head to the gym for a workout. This 24-hour gym is perfect for folks who’ve just arrived and are probably still suffering from jet lag. Add to that the low price: a day pass costs $8, but if you plan to come three or more times during your stay, spring for the month at $20. All passes include access to the full roster of classes, Pilates, cycling, air boxing, yoga, and more.

Equipment at BCN Fitness gym

If you’re into water-based fitness, this is the Barcelona gym for you. With a massive, 72-foot pool for swimming laps, the center also offers a full range of water classes, including one focused solely on perfecting your six-pack, as well as weights, machines, an outdoor sun deck, and squash courts. Day-passers can attend classes in everything from outdoor running (a great way to sightsee in a hurry) to dance workouts. Do a day for $20 or a week for $40.

Best spas in Barcelona

1. aire ancient baths barcelona.

Aire de Barcelona is a luxurious blend of Arab hammam-style baths, oozing with historic vibes from the al-Andalus era. Feeling fancy or celebrating something special? This spa ticks all the right boxes for a romantic evening with your significant other.

Located in the heart of El Born, you’re in a neighborhood that’s a mix of history, fashion, and top-notch eats. Aire de Barcelona actually used to be a meat storage area of El Born Market, and they stumbled upon ancient wells during the renovations.

It’s because of this that stepping into Aire feels like a trip back in time. The ambiance is a blend of stone vaults and oriental themes, letting you journey from room to room experiencing varying water temperatures.

And if you’re in for a little extra pampering, their treatments like hot stone massages are worth every penny – or why not have one of their wine baths while getting a head and scalp massage?

2. Thai Massage Spa

Not everyone needs a spa that comes with all the watery bells and whistles, and that’s okay. Instead, if you’re just looking for a spa in Barcelona that offers one of the best massages you’ve ever had, you won’t want to miss out on Thai Massage Spa .

Found smack dab in the middle of Passeig de Gracia (and a second spot in Pedralbes), you’re in for an incredibly relaxing experience.

Their aim is simple: Transport you into a state of sheer relaxation and bliss using time-tested techniques. And variety is the spice of life, right? Choose from Thai, Bali, and Hawaiian massages and get those knots worked out.

Aromatherapy SPA set that will be used in the best spas in Barcelona.

Got a special someone in tow? They’ve also got a special room designed for couple massages. Plus, if you’re looking to round off your pampering session, their jacuzzi room invites you for a floral bath.

With their focus solely on massage, you know you’re in expert hands here. Choose your preferred massage here and start counting down to relaxation.

3. Majestic Hotel and Spa

When a place is called “Majestic,” you kind of expect big things, right? Well, the Majestic Hotel and Spa doesn’t disappoint.

Tucked within this 5-star hotel is a spa that oozes luxury at every corner – and really emphasizes why this hotel is one of the best Barcelona hotels for couples out there. Whether you’re looking for a body treatment, a relaxing massage, facials, or even the classic mani-pedi combo, they’ve got it all.

And let’s be real, when you’re in a place this plush, why not try a little bit of everything?

The Majestic Spa’s goal is straightforward: Offer luxury, relaxation, and rejuvenation, all under one roof. If you’re looking for an escape that screams opulence without being over-the-top, the Majestic Hotel and Spa has you sorted.

4. ABaC Barcelona Spa

There’s something special about ABaC Hotel ‘s secret spa. Hidden within the hotel, it boasts amenities like a jacuzzi with underwater sunbeds, a brisk cold pool, and a soothing hammam.

They’ve got two treatment cabins, tatami, and heated sunbeds to ensure you get the ultimate relaxation experience. And their therapies aren’t just a routine – they are curated to vibe with your skin, body, and soul.

5. Mandarin Oriental Barcelona

The Mandarin Oriental in Barcelona isn’t just a place to lay your head – it’s an oasis of tranquility right in the heart of the city. With treatments that touch upon ancient Chinese traditional medicine, guests can immerse themselves in authentic experiences like Thai massages or even acupuncture.

Located on the bustling Passeig de Gràcia, it’s a luxurious escape where you can enjoy a dip in their 12-meter lap pool or feel the soothing embrace of the Oriental steam room. The spa pulls out all the stops with eight treatment rooms, including a Pedi:Mani:Cure Studio by Bastien Gonzalez, and exclusive facial treatments using Linda Meredith products.

And here’s a tip: If you’re thinking of spending an evening there, the adjacent Banker’s Bar is a quirky hangout, with its décor of old safes paying homage to the bank it once was.

6. Cowshed Relax

Step into the world of Cowshed Spa , a part of the trendy Soho House Barcelona , and experience the charm of a traditional Spanish pharmacy reimagined. Spanning four rooms with an indoor pool, it’s a place where nature meets luxury, focusing on treatments that utilize only the finest natural products.

Whether you’re in the mood for a rejuvenating facial or a relaxing body massage, they’ve got you covered. And if you’re planning a special event, you’re in luck – the spa is open to the public and can be reserved for private gatherings.

Plus, if you spend a bit at their place, they’ve got special offers like complimentary sleep candles to ensure your relaxation continues even after you’ve left.

The relaxing set up of Cowshed Relax is one of the best spas in Barcelona.

7. Silom Spa

If you’re into a dash of Thai inspiration while you’re chilling in Barcelona, Silom might be your spot. Located smack in the middle of the Eixample district, it’s just a stone’s throw away from Passeig de Gràcia.

All the therapists here have been certified by the Po Temple in Bangkok, so you’re getting legit Thai treatment. And the décor is all about those five elements: water, fire, earth, wood, and metal. It’s genuinely really cool.

But, hey, they don’t just stop at traditional Thai massages. They’ve got aromatic treatments that use essential oils all the way from places like Bali, Hawaii, and Indonesia.

Ever heard of a bamboo therapy that starts with a flower foot bath? Yep, they’ve got that too. And for those looking for something more, they offer body wraps, scrubs, and some great packages for expecting moms.

8. Metropolitan Sagrada Familia

Ever thought about working out and then just diving straight into some relaxation? Metropolitan Sagrada Familia ‘s got you covered.

Part of a larger chain that’s been taking over Spain, this particular branch near the iconic Sagrada Familia is massive – I’m talking 8,000 square meters of everything you can think of to get those muscles working and then properly relaxed. It’s almost like they’ve thought of everything…

Now, the fitness room is all modern and snazzy, but once you’re done breaking a sweat, there’s a hydromassage pool waiting. They’ve got a hammam, saunas (with TVs, because why not?), and even a solarium.

Relaxing rooms for spa in Metropolitan Sagrada Familia. One of the best spas in Barcelona.

If that wasn’t enough, you can get individual treatments like massages, peelings, pedicures, and more. The place might be big, but it doesn’t feel crowded – there’s enough space for everyone to have a little privacy.

Oh, and if you’re just visiting Barcelona, you can get a day pass to see what all the fuss is about.

What’s your perfect destination for your dream trip to Spain?

Want to discover a city or live your island dreams?

Embrace the food scene or step through the pages of history?

Whatever your travel style, discover the perfect Spanish city to add to your trip here!

9. Rituels d’Orient

Now here’s something a bit different for those looking to mix things up. Rituels d’Orient brings a slice of the hammam experience to Barcelona, and they’re pretty darn good at it.

Whether you’re going solo or with a partner, they’ve got packages designed to make sure you feel absolutely amazing. Soak in the baths, get a body scrub, or just treat your face to something special.

The space is more than just a place to get treatments – it’s an experience in itself. The inspiration is traditional Eastern baths from places like Morocco and Turkey.

They’ve got a Hammam and other rituals that you can indulge in. And when you’re done, just sit back in their relaxation room with some mint tea and an Arabian pastry. Pure bliss.

(And if you’ve got a weekend away from the kids and want to continue that vibe for the rest of your trip, you’ve got some of Barcelona’s best adults only hotels nearby, like The Mirror…just saying!)

10. Sir Victor

If you’re staying at the Sir Victor Hotel or even just around, their modern spa might be the place you want to check out. It’s tailored to whisk you away to your personal zen zone.

And who doesn’t want a little pick-me-up during vacation? Whether it’s Shiatsu, diverse massages, or unique baths, they’ve got you covered.

Oh, and if you’re itching for a fresh new look, you won’t be disappointed with their top-rated hairdresser on-site. It’s like killing two birds with one stone: relaxation and reinvention!

Modern and relaxing spas of Sir Victor. One of the best spas in Barcelona.

11. Ambrosia Spa

Alright, for those who’ve strolled down the elegant Passeig de Gràcia, you might’ve missed a spot – the Ambrosia Spa . This spot is all about luxury and the newest wellness trends.

You’re not just getting any treatments here – they’re all about organic products for their beauty and well-being procedures. And their massages are just as good as they claim to be.

Location-wise, it’s in the heart of Barcelona with a cool crystal entrance and once you’re in, it’s all about the tailored experience. If you need to recharge after city exploration, this might be your safe haven.

12. 1850 Urban Spa Barcelona

Okay, let’s talk variety, because the 1850 Urban Spa Barcelona is basically the smorgasbord of massage options. Thinking of some couple goals activities? They’ve got love experiences with up to 2 hours of treatments in your private massage cabin.

And if massages aren’t your only thing, they’ve got scrubs, hot stones, and their signature urban spa massages. The ambiance might be a bit cozier compared to others, but hey, they’ve got a Jacuzzi, a hydro-massage shower, a dry sauna, and a steam sauna.

Plus, if you’re looking to make it extra special with your partner, their ‘Romantic spa’ package has you booking the entire spa area exclusively for an hour. And they even throw in a bottle of cava and a fruit tray – talk about setting the mood!

13. Bali Spirit Spa Lounge

If you’re into unique vibes, Bali Spirit Spa might just be your kind of place. They’ve even been awarded the Best Spa in the World for innovation at one point!

And honestly, being the only traditional Balinese Spa in Spain is no small feat. In fact, the owner is actually from Bali and she personally handpicks and trains her therapists in her unique way.

Their paradise-like temple is a blend of ancient Balinese tradition, art, and senses. Fortunately, their central Eixample location is a cinch to get to, especially if you’re around Passeig de Gracia.

The whole setup is a mix of relaxation and elegance, with an incredibly long list of massages and treatments. From offerings for couples to specialized treatments for men, pregnant ladies, and even VIP rooms, they’ve pretty much thought of everything.

14. Mayan Spa at El Palace Hotel

Alright, luxury seekers, here’s a little something for you – the Mayan Spa located in the lavish El Palace Hotel . And if you’re a fan of Gaudí’s iconic Casa Batlló , it’s just next door, so maybe sneak in a little culture trip before you relax?

This spa is ranked thirteenth as the Best Signature Spa in Luxury Hotels not just in Spain, but in Europe and Worldwide. And you can see why when you look at the sheer variety of rituals and treatments.

Mayan Spa at El Palace Hotel is one of the best spas in Barcelona.

Want to indulge in treatments like chocolate extasis or wine therapy? Yep, they’re as luxurious as they sound.

The Mayan-inspired spa treatments, combined with high-end products from Anne Semonin, make the experience even richer. Personally, I’d recommend that you check out the Temazcal Sauna – it’s a traditional Mayan steaming method using volcanic stones. You know, as you do.

15. Spazio Wellness

Let’s shift gears a bit. If you’re after something more budget-friendly but without compromising on quality, Spazio Wellness is where it’s at. Sure, it’s in the basement of Hotel Diagonal Zero , but they’ve got plenty of natural light and some neat patio views.

They’ve got massages, and if you’re traveling with your partner, there are couple options too. Plus, location-wise, it’s bang opposite Barcelona’s International Convention Centre and Forum Auditorium.

Added perks? The spa has facilities like a Turkish bath and Finnish sauna. And if you’re staying for three nights or more in February, they’ll even throw in a day’s free spa access!

16. 43 The Spa

If you’re on the hunt for luxury combined with a view, 43 The Spa in the Hotel Arts Barcelona won’t disappoint. Situated on the 42nd and 43rd floors of the hotel, this spa promises a unique cityscape while you bask in relaxation.

They’ve got the sauna, color therapy, and a wide array of pools, fountains, and steam baths ready to sweep your worries away. Plus, the interior design, dominated by light shades, creates a serene environment, enhanced by eight private treatment cabins, a hammam, and an invigorating tub.

The naturalistic ambience of 43 The Spa. One of the best spas in Barcelona.

But here’s the kicker: you get to enjoy panoramic views of either the Mediterranean or the city skyline during your session. And if that wasn’t enough, they even offer a chocolate-based massage!

The spa has partnered with Natura Bissé, a luxe Spanish brand, ensuring top-notch treatments. From this height, it’s safe to say you’re practically getting a spa treatment in the clouds!

17. Hotel Miramar Spa by L’Occitane

At the heart of the 5-star Gran Hotel La Florida , the Spa by L’Occitane is all about providing an escape. With a vast selection of essential oils, they’re committed to teleporting you straight to Provence.

Whether you’re flying solo or with a partner, there’s a wide range of treatments and services up for grabs. In fact, the spa’s aim is to elevate your senses, and they do this with their welcoming rituals, sensory textures, relaxing music, and soothing infusions.

From aromacology massages and intense muscle relief massages to sweet almond scrubs, they’ve got your relaxation covered. But what truly sets this spa apart is its indoor pool with an attached waterfall, illuminated by natural light streaming in through a massive window.

Perched high up on Montjuïc Mountain, the Miramar Barcelona offers a picturesque backdrop, with gardens overlooking the Mediterranean. This means that for those who wish to continue the relaxation outdoors, the Miramar boasts two swimming pools where you can cool off and admire Barcelona’s beauty.

18. SPA Intercontinental Barcelona

Located just a short walk from the Montjuic fountains, the SPA Intercontinental Barcelona promises a retreat for those who appreciate the finer things. Their facility screams luxury, and they’ve got an array of beauty treatments inspired by techniques from India and other Asian countries.

The spa ensures you have multiple options to pick from. You’ve got the hammam, a choice between two saunas – wet and dry, and a bubble pool equipped with varying-intensity waterfalls.

And for the adventure-seekers, there’s the option to drench yourself with a bucket of cold water. A bold move, but hey, it’s supposed to be good for you, right?

Whether you’re looking to get pampered with beauty treatments or just escape the city’s hustle and bustle, they’ve got you covered.

19. YHI Wellness Spa

Located within the Hotel Meliá in the Sarrià district, the YHI Wellness Spa exudes a kind of peace you won’t find just anywhere. Plus, with techniques honed over centuries, they’re not just messing around here.

Take your pick between a soothing Turkish bath or a fragrant aromatic massage. This is the sort of place where you can simply let go and let the professionals whisk you away to a land of calm and tranquility.

For those of you looking for a break from the city hustle, YHI Wellness Spa provides that upscale refuge. The harmonious blend of traditional Oriental treatments and modern luxury makes this spa an ideal escape, even if just for a few hours.

20. Chi Spa

Over in the posh Pedralbes district, right at the end of Diagonal Avenue, lies the Chi Spa – a part of the swanky David Lloyd Turo Club . If you’re looking to luxuriate in a jacuzzi pool, they’ve got you.

But honestly, where they really shine is their broad range of treatments. Want to find that perfect balance? Maybe give their Chilax and Massage Chi services a go.

Ever heard of the Salt Glow scrub? It’s here, and it’s waiting to give your skin that fresh and soft feeling you’ve been after. And if you’ve been battling cellulite, they’ve got some pretty high-tech solutions, from acoustic waves to radiofrequency.

In addition, they can tailor services for special moments – think pregnancy, bridal packages, and even treatments specifically for the gents. Rounding it all up, Chi Spa also boasts a hair salon where you can spruce up your locks, get those nails done, and even have a makeup session with top-notch cosmetics.

Basically, if you’re looking for the entire self-care package and you’re in the ritzy end of town, this spa definitely has you covered.

Rates can vary widely by room type and season. "We Paid" is intended to give a general sense of price, but you might find considerably different rates for your trip.

When we book, we aim for the optimum season for the destination, but we avoid holidays and major public events, when prices are highest. We generally book a room at one category up from the most basic.

We take advantage of promotional rates, when possible. That means the rate you see above might have included other benefits, such as spa or meal credits.

The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona

  • Some treatments utilize Mandarin Oriental’s signature product line developed specifically for the hotel by world-renowned brand Aromatherapy Associates. The natural oils and body scrubs are all paraben free.
  • If you book the spa’s Time Rituals, which encourage you to reserve time rather than specific treatments, your service can be tailor-made to meet your specific wishes and state of mind.

Barcelona Spas & Massages

Where to pamper yourself in the city.

Barcelona Life

We check into some of the best spas in the city for a royal rub down, as well as look at some wonderful spa resorts in the Barcelona region.

Although spas and ritual bathing are more commonly associated with Scandinavian and Middle Eastern countries than Spain, in recent years – perhaps due to the city’s increasingly cosmopolitan nature and international outlook – there has been a sharp rise in the number of wellness centres setting up shop in the Catalan capital.

Great news for pleasure-seeking visitors, who can now easily combine  lounging on the city’s beaches ,  overindulging on tapas in  Barcelona’s restaurants  and  exploring the local nightlife , with relaxing sessions of spa treatments, wellness therapies and health & beauty procedures.

Turkish steam rooms, Finnish saunas, flotation tanks, infinity pools and ice showers (for the brave!) are just some of the facilities visitors will find available in Barcelona’s spas, whilst you can also opt for Thai, Balinese, Hawaiian and Swedish massages in top-of-the-range treatment rooms – as well as more cutting-edge and/or exotic therapies.

As well as day spas, Barcelona has a number of spa hotels (which are also open to the general public if you can’t afford the five star accommodation prices), a handful of traditional-style Hammams, harking back to Spain’s Arabic history, and several women-only wellness centres to choose from.

In addition, if you’re willing to travel slightly further afield, you’ll also find two or three picturesque spa towns, like  Caldes de Malavella , within an hour or so from the city – great if you have time to make a day or two of it.

Overall, whether you’re here on a  hen weekend , enjoying a  romantic weekend away  with a loved one, or just dead keen on spoiling yourself you should be able to find the right place and experience for you.

Barcelona Spas & Wellness Centres

Check below for a few of our favourite recommendations.

The Mandarin Oriental Hotel

It doesn’t come much flashier than this centre in the five star Mandarin Oriental, where treatments include “Relaxing Bamboo and Argan Ritual” and Collagen facials and usually cost between €150 and €300. www.mandarinoriental.com/barcelona/luxury-spa

Another five star offering, 43 The Spa gets its name from the fact that you find it on the 43rd floor of the towering Arts Hotel on the beach. Hydrotherapy pools, saunas and steam baths come with panoramic views of the Mediterranean. www.hotelartsbarcelona.com/en/Luxury-Spa-Barcelona

Barcelona Massage

These lifestyle specialists have contacts at all of the best venues in the Catalan capital and therefore can offer you a tantalising range of massages which includes everything from Thai, Mayan, Chakra Stone and even the exotic sounding Silk and Sea Shell massage. They can get you excellent rates at the most professional facilities in town.

Caldes de Malavella Spa Town

Just over an hour away from Barcelona by train,  this picturesque town  can chart its days as a rest and recuperation destination back to Roman times, and indeed it was founded by the Roman colonists after they discovered hot springs on site. It really developed though in the 1890s when two beautiful spa resorts, Balneari Prats and Vichy Catalan, were created to meet the needs of Barcelona’s burgeoning middle classes.

Balneari Prats Hotel

A lovely resort dating back to 1890, this neoclassical beauty boasts a shaded garden and naturally thermal outdoor swimming pool, as well modern amenities, a wide range of tempting health and beauty treatments… and a resident parrot. A great option if you want to get out of the city for a while. www.balneariprats.com

The 7 Best Luxury Hotels In Barcelona

B arcelona is a metropolis, the capital of Catalonia, one of the most popular tourist cities in the world, and as such, has a vast assortment of accommodation options for the 27 million visitors the city welcomes each year. From private rooms and self-catering apartments to boutique hotels and all the big names in hotels — you can find them all in Barcelona.

When it comes to luxury accommodation, Barcelona certainly has you covered. Penthouse suites, infinity pools, fluffy robes, and superb locations are all there if you have the budget. But which hotels are the best? Now that is something quite subjective, in my mind. Yes, you could measure the best hotel by the highest price, bed sheet thread count, location, or even name alone. But “best” is still a very personal choice.

So, here I have chosen a few hotels that offer obvious luxury (if in one case that is not necessarily reflected in the accommodation), comfort, style, history, and, probably foremost, a great location. Are these the absolute best? Not sure. Are they thoroughly enjoyable? Certainly.

1. Hotel Arts Barcelona

The Hotel Arts Barcelona , a Ritz Carlton property, can be easily spotted from across Barcelona. It is located in the tall tower right on the beachfront, next to the marina, with the rather huge Frank Gehry fish sculpture by its side. The hotel lobby is decorated with gorgeous flowers, the rooms are comfortable, and the views are simply incredible — be they over the sea or the city.

You have all the amenities, from a swanky bar to two-Michelin-star fine-dining, and this being a beachside resort, you have great outdoor spaces and two swimming pools. The location is perfect for lower Barcelona; the Parc Ciutadella is just there, the Gothic neighborhood of El Born is steps away, and you have the Mediterranean in front of you, hemmed by a perfect sandy beach with the city behind you.

2. Cotton House Hotel, Autograph Collection

A former city palace and later the headquarters of the Cotton Textile Foundation, the Cotton House Hotel is a lovely blend of old and new. Plenty of historic details are enhanced by modern comforts and the building seems to span not only the ages, but also various countries. The library, for example, is a picture-book English club with comfortable couches and wood paneling, while the bar by the courtyard would not look out of place in Paris and the staircase lends a Venetian palazzo flair. But it all works and makes for a very comfortable home-away-from-home kind of place to stay.

Located near Placa Catalunya — within easy walking distance of the central attraction and with three metro stations for those further away — this is a perfect location to explore Barcelona. And for that extra bit of luxury, the hotel offers a tailoring service for bespoke suits, should you have forgotten to pack yours.

3. Sercotel Rosellón

Walking into the Sercotel Rosellón on a quiet, nondescript road in Barcelona, you are first struck by a separate receptionist in the lobby who keeps turning people away. Next, you are struck by the really quite small and basic rooms — comfortable, but basic. You then can open the curtains. With the Sagrada Familia filling your view, you immediately forget the fact you can only swing a small cat in the room, rather than a leopard.

Here, the luxury is the view, which, when I stayed there, held me mesmerized from sunrise way past sunset. And then there is the reason why this special receptionist turns away so many people: the roof terrace. If you think the Sagrada Familia looks close from your window, try it from the roof without glass in front of you. This small roof terrace is hugely popular and people need to book well in advance — unless you are staying in the hotel. There you go: luxury.

4. Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona

There are certain names in the hotel business that just conjure up utter privilege, and the Mandarin Oriental is one of them. I have never set foot in any Mandarin Oriental without being awed by its luxury, whether it was exuded by understated elegance or by sumptuousness that envelops you like a velvet blanket. The Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona is a mix of both.

Outside, it’s a perfect, ornate late-1800s city residence. And inside, it’s clear-cut with delicately embellished interiors in a muted color palette. The luxury here is the service, the two-Michelin-starred restaurant, and the utterly budget-blowing prices for even the smallest room. There is no doubt that the Mandarin Oriental is probably the best luxury hotel in Barcelona, but few can ever afford to stay longer than one night. If you can, then the rooftop seating area with plunge pool, courtyard terrace, meticulous attention to detail, and location just around the corner from the Cotton House Hotel are definitely worth paying for.

5. Majestic Hotel & Spa Barcelona

Located on the iconic Passeig Garcia, the Majestic Hotel & Spa is the “Grand Dame” of luxury hotels in Barcelona. Established more than 100 years ago, it is still going strong, having just been voted most luxurious Barcelona hotel by Travel + Leisure .

This is historic style, attracting old money rather than flashy new money. Apart from all the usual luxuries of fluffy robes and the like, the Majestic even has a bespoke scent in its bathrooms. Whether old or new money, if you have it, please opt for one of the penthouses with their personal chauffeur, butler, and private terraces looking out over the boulevard, the adjacent Gaudi buildings, and the rooftops of Barcelona. If you can’t afford to stay, book a lunchtime table on the roof terrace restaurant and enjoy the views.

6. ME Barcelona Hotel

Part of the award-winning Spanish hotel group Meliá, famous for its luxury resorts, the ME Barcelona is all urban and contemporary chic. Despite being steps away from the Passeig Garcia, this one has a very different look and feeling. Young, hip, and modern, even the outside is in contrast to the swirly and ornate buildings around it.

You get a bit more traditional hotel chic in the restaurants surrounded by stylish arches, otherwise it is all art, enormous photographs of Vogue-inspired models, and hanging gardens in the bar. The rooftop pool, however, allows you to immerse yourself back in old Barcelona with the traditional rooftops in touching distance.

Despite the obvious modernity and urbanity, this hotel delivers on luxury through its top-notch service and personal little touches. And it is the only five-star hotel in Barcelona certified by LEED International — the world’s most widely used green building rating system in the world. The certification means this hotel is taking sustainability seriously, with its self-sufficiency in energy not taking away from the luxury experience in the slightest.

7. Hotel Pulitzer Barcelona

Just off Las Ramblas and the bustling Placa Catalunya, this is a busy location, but the Hotel Pulitzer is hiding in a side street. I have to admit that this is my personal favorite of the lot, probably because it is four-star rather than five-star, and not as imposing as some of the super luxurious hotels on this list. The location is superb with the outside a little less fancy than some of the grand stone buildings on Passeig Garcia. Instead, it’s a little shabby chic with cute balconies.

Inside, you have the open lobby, a lounge, a lovely old-fashioned bar, and an industrial-chic restaurant, all on the ground floor. Welcoming and atmospheric, the rooms are elegant and subtle. The signature Pulitzer Suite is just gorgeous. But it is the turquoise bathrooms in the standard room that really clinched the deal for me. And then there is the rooftop bar. A little oasis in the city, it has a DJ most nights, plenty of vegetation, comfortable seating, and more locals than tourists staying for an aperitif.

Napa Valley's Largest Resort Underwent a Massive Renovation — With Suites Overlooking a Working Vineyard, a New Champagne Lounge, and a Sleek Pool

The Meritage Resort and Spa has just completed a $25 million renovation.

While Napa Valley has no shortage of chic stays , The Meritage Resort and Spa holds a special place among them. For two decades, the sprawling property, nestled among sun-drenched vineyard hills just 45 minutes outside of San Francisco, has been a bustling hub of oenophile activity, drawing guests and locals. And after a multi-year, $25 million makeover completed this month, the resort is ready for its next chapter.

With grounds that span 36 acres, including nine working vineyards, the property claims the title of the largest in Napa Valley, and the latest renovation has touched almost every part of it. From the 467 guestrooms and suites reimagined to reflect the destination's natural setting to the expansion of its culinary program and recreational facilities, travelers can check in and never have to leave the resort's grounds.

AVABLU/Courtesy of The Meritage Resort & Spa

"Our goal is to capture the spirit of the vines that so often attract people to the region while redesigning the overall resort experience to appeal to the discerning traveler with a passion for places that provide a well-balanced mix of natural beauty, restfulness, adventure, and togetherness to draw them back time and again," Joe Leinacker, managing director of The Meritage Resort and Spa, told Travel + Leisure .

Guests are now welcomed into an elegant lobby with sloped ceilings, exposed wood beams, and a grand double-sided fireplace that perfectly epitomizes the resort's rustic chic aesthetic. The property's new lobby bar now features more seating and serves a curated selection of handcrafted cocktails (including mocktails), small-batch bourbons, and shareable plates of charcuterie, appetizers, and hand-tossed pizzas.

For the rooms, Pacific Hospitality Group, the resort's owner, teamed up with renowned hospitality design firm HBA San Francisco, who created two distinct concepts. The Meritage rooms are awash in neutral tones with leather accents, built-in millwork, and bespoke furniture that create a sophisticated ambiance, complemented by luxury amenities like Frette linens, touchscreen lighted mirrors, walk-in showers, and private balconies with lounge furniture.

The Bordeaux accommodations add more color to the interior design scheme — deep reds, greens, browns — and also incorporate nature with organic finishes. Upgrade to a specialty suite with idyllic vineyard views, a separate living room with a fireplace, and a fully-equipped kitchen. This type of room category also has a large bathroom with a walk-in shower, a tub, and a spacious balcony.

The resort's new food and beverage venues are another highlight and focus on showcasing the best and freshest local ingredients — both from its on-site garden (and chicken coop) and regional vendors supplying the property's multiple restaurants and markets.

Ember, a steakhouse, is making its debut overlooking the resort's grand lawn. The moody dining space is clad in dark woods, leather, and stone accents. Here, chef Cary Roy serves prime cuts and dry-aged beef sourced from northern Californian farms, paired with the best bottles of reds and whites from Napa and beyond.

Also new is the airy and elegant Sora, offering bubbly wines, champagnes, and cocktails in a bright tasting room filled with fun pops of color. Returning guests will find the resort's renovated bowling space, Crush, to be sleeker and more elevated. Here, between games, patrons can enjoy a menu of sports bar classics like smash burgers, tacos, and indulgent boozy milkshakes, a definite crowd-pleaser.

The resort has also completely revamped its pool deck with iconic views of the vineyards, one of the most popular spots for relaxation on-site.

Leinacker explained that the adults-only deck (there is a family-friendly pool, too) was expanded, and the number of lounges has now more than doubled.

"That's going to become a great focal point. We have DJs out at the pool. It's just a chill vibe out and very relaxing—you're lying there in your lounge, looking up at the vineyard and the [Grape] Crusher statue. It's an iconic Napa experience," he added.

The Meritage's other existing dining venues, such as its Italian eatery Olive & Hay, the market and deli, Fivetown Grocery, and three wine-tasting rooms, are still active and remain unchanged.

Courtesy of The Meritage Resort & Spa

The resort also continues to offer one of the most comprehensive activities programs in Napa Valley with year-round events such as a summer concert series and a winter ice skating ring (which, according to Leinacker, makes the lawn look like a "Hallmark movie"), yoga classes in the vineyards, and, of course, themed wine tastings.

Guests can take advantage of the complimentary daily shuttle service to downtown Napa, a short ten-minute drive from the property.

Nightly rates for the new Bordeaux and Meritage guest rooms start at $379, and you can book your stay here . The resort also launched a special "Discover Vineyard Elegance" package, which includes a $200 resort credit to encourage guests to explore the resort's expanded amenities.
