3. eTA required

Citizens of the following countries do not need a visa for Morocco, but they must have an Electronic Travel Authorization: Republic of Congo, Guinea, Mali .

Required Documents for the Morocco e-Visa

You only need a few basic items to apply for the Morocco online visa. Before you can start the application process you’ll need to have the following:

• Residency card or visa (if applicable)
• Photograph of applicant
• Email address
• Debit or credit card

Your passport must meet the requirements mentioned below . You will also need your residency card or visa for your application, unless your passport is from Azerbaijan, India, Israel, Jordan, Guatemala, or Thailand.

Your email address must be an active account which you check regularly. All updates are sent to this address, including your approved e-Visa.

You will need a debit or credit card which is authorized for online payments to pay the Morocco e-Visa processing fee. This is the final stage of the application process.

Passport, visa, and residence permit requirements for a Morocco e-Visa

Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months from the date you intend to enter Morocco.

If you’re applying with a residence permit from an eligible country, it must be valid for at least 180 days .

If you have a visa from an eligible country, it must be valid for at least 90 days from the date you intend to arrive in Morocco.

Providing digital copies of your documents

Thanks to the 100% online application process, you do not need to present any paper copies of your documents to apply for the Morocco e-Visa.

All you need to provide is an image or scan of your documents when you complete the online form. It is not necessary to present the original document in person at a government office.

To travel to Morocco from overseas, you must meet the requirements to enter Morocco . If you reach the Moroccan border without the correct documents you will be refused entry.

Back in 2016, we were invited to speak at the World Tourism Forum in Istanbul. As soon as we got the invitation, we knew we would take advantage of the opportunity to also explore nearby destinations. We swept everything off the table, laid a map (yes, we still own one and we like things old-school sometimes), and looked for possible detours. The plan was to see Greece, Malta, and Italy after the forum.

But you know what they say, some plans are meant to be just that, plans.

I don’t remember what happened, but before we knew it, we had run out of time to secure a Schengen visa. Panicking, we consulted that map again and looked for alternatives. Almost every nearby country requires a visa for Filipino citizens. Georgia and Armenia would be great, but we were saving them for another trip. We were about to lose hope when we found something shining on the Western edge of the Mediterranean — Morocco.

Morocco has always sat on top of our list of dream destinations, but we didn’t realize that it’s visa-free for Filipinos. In fact, nationals of over 70 countries and territories can enter Morocco without a visa. Most — like the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States, and all the member states of the European Union — can stay for up to 90 days. Singapore passport-holders can stay for up to 30 days.

Here’s a quick snapshot of the Wikipedia list.

This generous visa policy makes Morocco an ideal holiday destination. But here are 10 cities and towns you should consider for your dream Moroccan getaway.

1. Marrakesh

The epicenter of Morocco’s tourism, Marrakesh (or Marrakech) is popular for a reason. It’s wild and chaotic, but it’s also unique and so in touch with its past. Stay in a “riad”, the traditional Moroccan house with a courtyard, in its labyrinthine medina and check out the souks in its central plaza called Jemaa El Fna.

Marrakesh can be overwhelming (if not intimidating) at first. Its layout is confusing and there are scams here and there. But it didn’t take long before our appreciation of it took root in our hearts and grew so huge that we didn’t want to leave.

Situated north of the southern foothills of the Atlas Mountains, its central location makes it an ideal jumpoff point for other destinations like Medina, Casablanca, and Essaouira.

2. Essaouira

Although along Morocco’s Atlantic coast, Essaouira looks more like a Mediterranean town with a North African attitude. The citadel is predominantly white, rising from a rocky shore, accented by cerulean boats. Gelato shops mark some corners, and European restaurants punctuate some streets. Yet, a walk is impossible without running into locals clad in djellabas and being treated to the aroma of cumin-mixed tagines. And while it is home to multiple ethnic groups, it is distinctly, undeniably Moroccan.

Essaouira means “little rampart,” referring to the walls that surround the area. The fortress was built under the command of the Portuguese. Called by its old name Mogador at the time, Essaouira was one of the six Moroccan towns that the Portuguese seized and ruled. It is a great example of an 18th century fortified port city.

3. Chefchaouen

Morocco’s famed blue city! Chefchaouen is best known for the blue-washed buildings that make it one of the most picturesque destinations in the country. Islamic and Andalusian architecture take centerstage here, if not overshadowed by the surrounding Rif Mountains.

4. Casablanca

For many tourists, Casablanca rings a bell for the romantic Hollywood classic named after it. But the city itself stands on its own as a compelling tourist destination. Its most iconic structure is the impressive and enormous Hassan II Mosque and its minaret, the tallest in the world. Don’t leave the city without stopping at the Medina and the Corniche.

Everywhere we went in Morocco, locals urge us to see Tangier on the Gibraltar Strait coast. This northern city has a very different character, having been the primary gateway to Africa for Europeans for centuries and a place where influences blend to create a distinct culture.

Fez is Morocco’s second largest city, but it also cradles the world’s largest urban pedestrian (car-free) zone, Fes el Bali. Fes el Bali is one of its two medinas and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Also located here is the University of al-Qarawiyyin, “the oldest existing, continually operating university in the world” as recognized by both UNESCO and Guinness World Records.

7. Ouarzazate and Aït Benhaddou

You might recognize Ouarzazate as the filming location for a lot of Hollywood movies: Lawrence of Arabia (1962), The Last Temptation of Christ (1988), The Mummy (1999), and Prince of Persia (2010) among others. But in the Game of Thrones world, a nearby kasbah, Aït-Ben-Haddou is Yunkai, aka Yellow City and one of the three great city-states in Slaver’s Bay. For domestic and international tourists, it is also the jump off point for the Draa Valley and into the desert.

8. Merzouga

If you see photos of Morocco depicting endless sand dunes and camel rides, chances are their photographers once stayed in Merzouga. Situated on the edge of the Sahara, it is a tiny village best known for its proximity to Erg Chebbi, a Saharan erg.

Morocco is an open country. Its policy is intended to ease foreign travelers to enter the kingdom under the best possible conditions. Therefore, citizens of many countries do not need a Visa to enter Morocco, but is restricted to different periods of stay.

The following are the countries which are exempted from obtaining a Visa to Morocco, eligible to stay for 90 calendar days:

European Union countries, which include:

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and United Kingdom

In addition to the list above, citizens of the following countries are also eligible for a Visa free for 90 days:

Algeria, Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Bahrain, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Congo, Guinea, Indonesia, Ivory Coast, Japan, Kuwait, Mali, Mexico, Monaco, New Zealand, Niger, Oman, Peru, Philippines, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, South Korea, Tunisia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United States and Venezuela.

However, citizens of Hong Kong , Hungary and Singapore can enter Morocco for 30 days with free-Visa.

If your country is not listed above, you may consult the Embassy or Consulate of Morocco in your country and you will be informed whether you will need a Visa or not.

Morocco Visa Requirements

Before traveling to Morocco it is important to make sure that you have your passport in order. In addition, it must have an expiration date of more than three months after your date of entry into Morocco. This applies to all travelers, including children and babies. Furthermore, if a minor does not travel accompanied by their parents, it may be necessary for them to carry a duly signed parental authorization.

It’s important to note that many travelers have been refused into to Morocco because of not having their passport in order. It’s possible that the police officer working at the border may admit someone with a passport with an expiration date of less than three months, but of course it’s not something to be taken for granted.

In some cases, it is necessary to have a visa. The following are the countries whose citizens do NOT require such a visa to travel to Morocco, but, as this list is subject to change over time, please consult it only for general guidance. To confirm whether you need a visa or not, we advise you to go to your country’s Moroccan embassy:

Ever since I watched Leonardo Dalessandri’s Watchtower of Morocco on YouTube, Morocco has been on my bucket list. The video sparked a sense of curiosity in me that when I saw a seat sale from Oman Air, I immediately booked round-trip tickets for my friends and me. Fortunately, my friends were just as adventurous as I was and didn’t hesitate to join me on this trip. PS. This post is quite long so please have patience as it loads. I hope you’ll agree it’s worth it.

Two days ago, we arrived from a 2-week trip in Morocco. It was everything I imagined it to be, and more.

After about a month of planning our Morocco itinerary, we settled on a route which led us through some of the country’s highlights: from the port city of Casablanca to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Fes, to the otherworldly Sahara and Atlas Mountains to the famous Game of Thrones filming location, Essaouira. We were just blown away by the variety of sights and scenery on our trip. For any of you planning a trip to Morocco, I’m including our actual itinerary, expenses and tips in this post. Also, I have added sample itinerary that you can fine tune based on your interests.

Philippine passport holders can stay in Morocco for a total of 90 days, visa-free. You just have to present a current Philippine passport, valid for at least 6 months beyond the expected date of departure from Morocco. That’s it!

Morocco could have been an affordable destination for us Filipinos, if it weren’t for the high airfare from Manila to Casablanca. Despite the absence of direct flights, there are two primary indirect routes: one via Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, and the other via Muscat in Oman. After months of searching for airfare deals, the most cost-effective option I discovered was with Oman Air . They offer a Casablanca route from Manila with a layover and change in Muscat. The typical travel duration ranges from 19 to 25 hours, and roundtrip tickets are priced at a minimum of 500-800 USD (25,000-45,000 pesos) departing from Manila.

Saudia also provides budget-friendly flight options, even though some travelers have noted that the in-flight service and hospitality of the flight crew may not be exceptional.

Staying at hotels are relatively cheaper compared to staying at hotels in Manila. Budget hostels and family-run guesthouses are aplenty in Casablanca, Fes, Marrakech and Essaouira. For the entire duration of our stay, I only paid 108 USD (6,137 pesos) for accommodation.

Travel Tip:  Make sure to stay in hostels with FREE breakfast so you could save some money. Also, you don’t have to worry about where to eat early in the morning.

Morocco’s inexpensive and generally reliable trains are the country’s preferred form of public transport. You can check the prices and timetables of the national railway operator ONCF .

Another cheap but reliable option is by bus. A lot of local bus companies ply the country’s roads, often with dozens competing on the most popular routes including Casablanca to Marrakech. Levels of comfort can vary widely between companies – some have fleets of air-conditioned buses with TV and on-board snacks, while others run beaten-up old buses with no air-conditioning and smoke belching exhausts.  For extra comfort, I would recommend CTM Company  and Nejme Chamal .

Just like the cost of transportation and accommodation, food is relatively cheap in Morocco. Just to give you an idea, the average price of a meal (breakfast, lunch or dinner) is 50-150 dirhams (5-15 USD or 270-800 pesos. Take a look at the expense summary at the very end of this Morocco Travel Guide and you will see that I only spent 158 USD (9,008 pesos) for the entire duration of the trip! Of course, it could be lesser or greater than that depending on your food preference and appetite.

Our Morocco itinerary was a circular route covering the most popular destinations in central and northern Morocco, with our starting and ending point in Casablanca. While we completed the route in 11 days, our entire trip took 2 weeks due to the long journey to get to Morocco from the Philippines.

Casablanca (Day 1)

After 30 hours of travel (2 plane rides, 1 long layover in Muscat, Oman and 1 train ride), we finally made it to Casablanca. My friends and I initially planned to explore the city as soon as we checked in to our hotel in Casablanca , but jet lag kicked in. Traveling from the Philippines to Africa messed up our biological clock so instead of seeing Casablanca’s best attractions, we ended up sleeping in our comfortable hotel beds.

My friends and I woke up at sunset, not realizing that it was Ramadan in Morocco. We were worried that most restaurants would be closed already, but we decided to take a chance and try NKOA , a fusion restaurant in Casablanca. To our relief, they were open and even welcomed us without reservations.

As it was Ramadan, the restaurant offered a unique menu that combined Eurasian, Afro-Latin, and Moroccan flavors. The meal was a perfect introduction to Moroccan cuisine and a great way to start our trip.

Casablanca to Fes (Day 2)

On day 2, my friends and I woke up early to explore Casablanca before we travel to our next destination, Fes. Most travellers skip the city but I would highly recommend to spend at least a day in the capital. The imposing Hassan II Mosque, the largest mosque in Africa, is one of the reasons why you should definitely visit Casablanca.

Casablanca Guided Tour

If it’s your first time visit in Morocco, you can join a guided tour in Casablanca . Embark on a 4-hour walking tour, starting at the impressive Hassan II Mosque. Sample freshly baked bread, pastries and mint tea at a local cafe before exploring the Ricks Café and the Habous quarter (New Medina). Engage with the locals and experience the lively Medina, while also browsing for souvenirs.

Fes (Day 3)

I woke up early in our accommodation, Dar Hlimi located in the heart of the medina, to catch the sunrise. Fes, one of the imperial cities of Morocco, is probably the most authentic Moroccan city my friends and I visited on this trip. There were foreign tourists like us but the vibrant local culture was very evident. I think we got a good glimpse of ramadan in this city and I consider it as one of the highlights of our Moroccan adventure.

Fes Medina Guided Tour

If you’re a first time visitor in Morocco, I highly recommend joining a guided tour in Fes . I guarantee that you will get lost if you do this on your own. With an expert guide, you can wander through the narrow streets and shop for local products, without the worry of getting lost or ripped off.

Chefchaouen (Day 4)

On day 4 of our trip, my friends and I visited Chefchaouen, also known as the Blue City . You’ve probably seen it on social media – the city is famous for its beautiful blue-washed buildings. We initially planned to take a local bus, but unfortunately, all tickets were sold out days before our trip. We didn’t want to miss out on this beautiful destination, so we decided to rent a private car with a driver . Since there were five of us, the cost was not that expensive, and we split it equally. Renting a car gave us the flexibility to reach the city quickly and make stops along the way.

Chefchaouen Day Trip from Fes

You may also join a group tour to Chefchaouen from Fes. This tour allows you to explore the blue city at your own pace and enjoy a delicious lunch with panoramic views of the town from a terrace. The transportation to and from your hotel in Fes is included, allowing you to relax and fully enjoy your experience in Chefchaouen.

Fes to Merzouga (Day 5)

On day 5, we were picked up in our accommodation in Fes by our friendly and helpful driver/tour guide, Ali from Mouhou Tours. Prior to this trip, I researched the best Sahara Desert tour provider in Morocco and found many online. I was overwhelmed by so many options that’s why I checked out TripAdvisor.

One company that caught my eye was Mouhou Tours because they had no negative feedback as of this writing, and they seemed to provide one of the most promising Sahara Desert tours in Morocco. There were lots of cheaper alternative but I decided to book with them. We availed the private tour which costs 2,200 Moroccan Dirhams (200 euros or 12,000 pesos) per person. Was it worth it? Definitely.

Merzouga to Dades Valley (Day 6)

On day 6, I woke up to one of the best sunrises I have ever seen! It was just a glimpse of what we experienced that day as our group made our way to some of Morocco’s best destinations. In the late afternoon, we check in to a beautiful riad called Riad Dades . I loved it so much because of its amazing views of Dades Valley. My words are not enough to describe it.

Dades Valley to Marrakech (Day 7)

After breakfast, we drove along the Rose Valley to Ouarzazate (pronounced Wa-za-zat) past Skoura Oasis, which is famed for its date palm trees. Then we visited the Atlas Film Studios, which is considered to be the largest film studio in the world. The main star of this day was Ait Ben Haddou , a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known as the Slave City of Yunkai in the Game of Thrones . Seriously. My heart could not contain the excitement when I saw its iconic gate where some of the scenes of Daenaerys Targeryen were shot.

Our driver/tour guide Ali drove us to Marrakech before the day ended. My friends and I really had a great time with him and it felt like saying good bye to a friend. If you guys are planning to do a 3-day Sahara Desert Tour , you should definitely go with Mouhou Tours and specifically ask for Ali!

On our first night in Marrakech, after checking in at the hotel, we decided to check out Jemaa el-Fna Square . This historic square has been a significant cultural hub since the city’s establishment in the 11th century. This square showcases a concentration of cultural practices and Moroccan cuisine. It was a bit of a culture shock at first, but I soon got comfortable after exploring the whole square.

Marrakech (Day 8)

Marrakech is an incredibly popular destination among foreign tourists in Morocco, and for good reason. With so many fascinating sights and experiences to be had in this vibrant city, it’s easy to get lost in all it has to offer. To fully explore Marrakech, I recommend allocating at least three days to take in all the attractions and immerse yourself in the local culture.

In the morning, my friends and I headed to Jardin Majorelle , a stunning oasis in the heart of Marrakech. We were amazed by the colorful cactus garden and the peaceful atmosphere. We also visited the YSL Museum , which was a tribute to the famous fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent, who spent many years in Marrakech.

After that, we went shopping for some authentic Moroccan products and came across Sidi Yassine , which is known for its high-quality Argan Oil . We couldn’t resist buying some bottles of this precious oil, which is a staple in Moroccan beauty and skincare routines. It was, for me, the best thing anyone can buy in Morocco!

Finally, we explored the lively Medina of Marrakech , where we found everything from spices and textiles to handmade crafts and jewelry. We bargained with the friendly vendors (they weren’t aggressive at all!) and enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere of this traditional market. It was an unforgettable day filled with culture, shopping, and adventure.

Essaouira (Day 9)

My friends and I joined a day-trip tour to Essaouira with iGoMorocco on day 9 of our Moroccan adventure. The travel company offers daily trips out of Marrakech to various destinations in Morocco. Although I initially planned an overnight trip to Essaouira, time constraints and heavy luggage made me decide against it. Nonetheless, Essaouira is a charming and laid-back city that quickly became one of my favorites on the trip. Fans of Game of Thrones will recognize its ramparts, as it was where Daenerys Targaryen bought the unsullied.

Marrakech (Day 10)

On Day 10 of our trip, we visited the mellah of Marrakech (aka Jewish Quarter), followed by Bahia Palace and Ben Youssef Madrasa , both known for their beautiful architecture and history. Although the El Badi Palace was under renovation, its walls outside was an impressive sight. The day ended back to Jemaa el-Fnaa , where the group soaked up the vibrant atmosphere and tried new foods.

Marakkech Guided Tour

I highly suggest joining a guided tour of Marrakech with a local if it’s your first time. This tour takes you to some of the most amazing sights in Marrakech, including Bahia Palace, Ben Youssef Madrasa, and the Saadian tombs. You’ll also explore the Medina, taking in the various architectural styles and learning about the land and its people. And when you need a break, you can relax in the beautiful Majorelle Garden (Jardin Majorelle) and the YSL Museum.

Casablanca to Muscat (Day 11)

On the final day of our Moroccan adventure, we had to catch an early morning flight to Muscat, Oman. We opted to spend our last night in Marrakech instead of traveling back to Casablanca. To make the most of our remaining time, we decided to let loose and have some fun at Boho 27 Hostel. We ended up partying and getting quite drunk, which made for a memorable experience.

Since there were no public transportation options available in the early hours of the morning, we arranged for a private airport transfer from Marrakech to Casablanca Airport .

In total, I spent 1,126 USD (64,060 pesos) inclusive of everything – airfare, food, accommodation, tours, local transportation, shopping, etc. I would say it was a pretty reasonable amount for a 2-week trip in Morocco.

Day 3 to 5 – 3-day Sahara Desert Tour from Fes to Marrakech I really recommend taking this tour from Fes to Marrakech to maximize your time in Morocco. Lots of amazing places await you on this journey. Trust me.

Day 6 (Marrakech) Jardin Majorelle Yves Saint Laurent Museum Koutoubia Mosque Ben Youssef Madrasa Jemaa el-Fnaa

Day 7 (Marrakech) Bahia Palace El Badi Saadian Tombs Flight back to Casablanca or land travel the next morning

As you can see, this 1-week itinerary is very packed. A week is too short for Morocco but since not everyone can visit longer, I hope this itinerary will be useful to you. You can add an extra day if you want to see Chefchaouen (Blue City) or Essaouira. If you have 2 weeks to spare, then my actual itinerary in this Morocco Travel Guide will be perfect for you!

Hello Justine. The Immigration officer in Morocco just asked me to show my passport. I wasn’t required to show anything. As Filipinos, we can stay Visa-free for 90 days. I think there won’t be any issue as long as you can support yourself. When exiting the country, you can tell them that you have made some changes in your travel plans and decided to stay longer.

-Holders of Laissez-Passer, regardless of their nationality, issued by United Nations Organizations, NATO, OSCE, Council of Europe and European Union, are also exempt from the visa requirement.

Hi, thank you very much for this info. I’ll be going to cambodia this coming April or May to do some volunteer works and definitely i’ll visit the neighborig countries stated in this article. You need to have your passport valid for at least 6 months! Also, you have to consider that there’s no Philippines Embassy in some countries in South America so I suggest to renew your passport before you travel!

Believe it or not, it was this post that i chanced upon that inspired me to pursue a trip to armenia and georgia, now that I have booked my flights and hotel, i already checked the e visa for georgia and fortunately im exempted. Hello Monica, are you based in any GCC countries? I highly suggest get the e-visa even though we have the exemption rule to make sure that’s what I did. Check again their official website or email them.

Agree. If you’re a Philippine passport holder alone you need to get an e-visa (online) in Georgia. Exemptions are: working/resident in GCC (e.g. UAE, Qatar, KSA, Oman etc…) or you have valid tourist visa in US or UK (multiple entry). Hope it helps

These are great countries! But then again, there are no direct flights from the Philippines to most of them. Hence, a Filipino still needs a transit visa if he will be on a connecting flight from China, U.S. or the Middle East.

I’m in Georgia right now, and it’s not visa upon arrival anymore. Check the website. You have to apply first in their embassy in Indonesia. Armenia, on the other hand, is still visa upon arrival for Filipinos.

United Is Adding New International Flights for Fall

This time, the carrier has its sights set on exciting destinations in south america, africa, and asia..

United loyalists will soon be able to enjoy the grand hotels of Marrakech, like the revered La Mamounia, thanks to new international routes.

United Airlines is growing its international route network once again.

The Chicago-based airline just announced three brand-new international destinations and plans to add more frequent flights to locales it already serves.

Later this year, the airline will begin offering nonstop flights to Medellín, Colombia; Marrakech, Morocco; and Cebu, Philippines. All told, the new routes will bring United’s nonstop service to 134 international destinations spanning 67 countries.

Here’s everything you need to know about the new (and expanding) routes.

Marrakech, Morocco

As of October 24, 2024, travelers will be able to connect directly from New York’s Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to Morocco’s Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK). The flights will operate three times a week on Boeing 767-300ER planes, which feature 46 Polaris business-class pods, 22 Premium Plus recliners, 43 Economy Plus extra-legroom seats, and 56 economy seats. Planes will depart Newark at 12:45 p.m. (on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday) and arrive in Morocco the following day at 11:20 a.m. (local time), with the return flight (on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday) departing Morocco at 1:20 p.m. and touching down in Newark at 4:25 p.m. (local time).

The route will run through mid-spring 2025, according to United. The tickets aren’t yet bookable, as they’re currently subject to government approval.

Just east of Medellín is the Andean resort area of Guatapé Lake.

Medellín, Colombia

Starting October 27, 2024, United plans to fly nonstop from Houston’s George Bush International Airport (IAH) to Medellín, Colombia’s José María Córdova International Airport (MDE). The daily flights—which will be operated on Boeing 737-8 Max aircraft—will depart Houston at 4:29 p.m. and arrive in Medellín at 10:05 p.m. (local time). Going the reverse direction, planes will depart Medellín at 10:45 a.m. and reach Texas at 2:38 p.m. Like those for Marrakech, the tickets will be bookable as soon as United has government approval, though there’s no word on when that will be.

Though this is United’s first flight path to Medellín, the carrier already flies to Bogotá from Houston and Newark.

Cebu, Philippines

When United launches its service to Cebu City on October 27, 2024, it’ll be the only U.S. carrier that reaches the Philippines city, which serves as a gateway to Cebu Island and its white-sand beaches, waterfalls, and incredible diving scenery. Granted, the nonstop service isn’t departing from American soil—it leaves from Tokyo’s Narita International Airport (which is accessible with direct flights from Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, and San Francisco).

The daily, year-round service will operate on Boeing 737-800 aircraft, with planes departing Tokyo at 5:25 p.m. and arriving at Cebu at 9:35 p.m. (a flight of 5 hours and 10 minutes with the time change). The return journey will leave the Philippines at 9:15 a.m. and arrive in Tokyo at 3:20 p.m. local time.

The airline already runs a direct flight between San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL) in the Philippines.

Additional United international flights

Beyond the three new routes, United announced that it would expand service to destinations with strong demand, including:

• Newark to Porto, Portugal: A second daily flight will be added starting May 23.
• Los Angeles to Hong Kong: A second daily flight will be added starting October 26.
• San Francisco to Seoul, South Korea: A second daily flight will be added starting October 27.
• Los Angeles to Shanghai: Starting August 29, there will be four weekly flights (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday) with return flights taking place every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.

United has been particularly bullish about adding flight paths to so-called second cities in recent years. In December 2023, United launched the only nonstop flight from the United States to Christchurch, New Zealand . One route, however, that is going away before it even starts is a direct flight to Faro, Portugal , which was supposed to launch this spring and has been postponed until summer 2025. Impacted customers are being offered a full refund or United will rebook travel on a partner airline without a fee.

A. STATUTORY NUMBERS FOR PREFERENCE IMMIGRANT VISAS

This bulletin summarizes the availability of immigrant numbers during May  for: “Final Action Dates” and “Dates for Filing Applications,” indicating when immigrant visa applicants should be notified to assemble and submit required documentation to the National Visa Center.

Unless otherwise indicated on the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) website at  www.uscis.gov/visabulletininfo , individuals seeking to file applications for adjustment of status with USCIS must use the “Final Action Dates” charts below for determining when they can file such applications. When USCIS determines that there are more immigrant visas available for the fiscal year than there are known applicants for such visas, USCIS will state on its website that applicants may instead use the “Dates for Filing Visa Applications” charts in this Bulletin. 

1.  Procedures for determining dates. Consular officers are required to report to the Department of State documentarily qualified applicants for numerically limited visas; USCIS reports applicants for adjustment of status. Allocations in the charts below were made, to the extent possible, in chronological order of reported priority dates, for demand received by April 1st . If not all demand could be satisfied, the category or foreign state in which demand was excessive was deemed oversubscribed. The final action date for an oversubscribed category is the priority date of the first applicant who could not be reached within the numerical limits. If it becomes necessary during the monthly allocation process to retrogress a final action date, supplemental requests for numbers will be honored only if the priority date falls within the new final action date announced in this bulletin. If at any time an annual limit were reached, it would be necessary to immediately make the preference category “unavailable”, and no further requests for numbers would be honored.

2.  The fiscal year 2024 limit for family-sponsored preference immigrants determined in accordance with Section 201 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) is 226,000.  The worldwide level for annual employment-based preference immigrants is at least 140,000.  Section 202 prescribes that the per-country limit for preference immigrants is set at 7% of the total annual family-sponsored and employment-based preference limits, i.e., 25,620.  The dependent area limit is set at 2%, or 7,320.

3.  INA Section 203(e) provides that family-sponsored and employment-based preference visas be issued to eligible immigrants in the order in which a petition in behalf of each has been filed. Section 203(d) provides that spouses and children of preference immigrants are entitled to the same status, and the same order of consideration, if accompanying or following to join the principal. The visa prorating provisions of Section 202(e) apply to allocations for a foreign state or dependent area when visa issuances will exceed the per-country limit. These provisions apply at present to the following oversubscribed chargeability areas:  CHINA-mainland born, INDIA, MEXICO, and PHILIPPINES. 

4.  Section 203(a) of the INA prescribes preference classes for allotment of Family-sponsored immigrant visas as follows: 

FAMILY-SPONSORED PREFERENCES

First : ( F1 ) Unmarried Sons and Daughters of U.S. Citizens:  23,400 plus any numbers not required for fourth preference.

Second : Spouses and Children, and Unmarried Sons and Daughters of Permanent Residents:  114,200, plus the number (if any) by which the worldwide family preference level exceeds 226,000, plus any unused first preference numbers:

A. ( F2A ) Spouses and Children of Permanent Residents:  77% of the overall second preference limitation, of which 75% are exempt from the per-country limit;

B. ( F2B ) Unmarried Sons and Daughters (21 years of age or older) of Permanent Residents:  23% of the overall second preference limitation.

Third : ( F3 ) Married Sons and Daughters of U.S. Citizens:  23,400, plus any numbers not required by first and second preferences.

Fourth : ( F4 ) Brothers and Sisters of Adult U.S. Citizens:  65,000, plus any numbers not required by first three preferences.

A.   FINAL ACTION DATES FOR FAMILY-SPONSORED PREFERENCE CASES

On the chart below, the listing of a date for any class indicates that the class is oversubscribed (see paragraph 1); "C" means current, i.e., numbers are authorized for issuance to all qualified applicants; and "U" means unauthorized, i.e., numbers are not authorized for issuance. (NOTE: Numbers are authorized for issuance only for applicants whose priority date is earlier than the final action date listed below.)

For May, F2A numbers  EXEMPT from per-country limit  are authorized for issuance to applicants from all countries with priority dates  earlier  than 08NOV20. F2A numbers  SUBJECT to per-country limit  are authorized for issuance to applicants chargeable to all countries EXCEPT MEXICO , with priority dates beginning 08NOV20 and earlier than 01JUN21. All F2A numbers provided for MEXICO are exempt from the per-country limit.

B.  DATES FOR FILING FAMILY-SPONSORED VISA APPLICATIONS

The chart below reflects dates for filing visa applications within a timeframe justifying immediate action in the application process. Applicants for immigrant visas who have a priority date earlier than the application date in the chart below may assemble and submit required documents to the Department of State’s National Visa Center, following receipt of notification from the National Visa Center containing detailed instructions. The application date for an oversubscribed category is the priority date of the first applicant who cannot submit documentation to the National Visa Center for an immigrant visa. If a category is designated “current,” all applicants in the relevant category may file applications, regardless of priority date.

The “C” listing indicates that the category is current, and that applications may be filed regardless of the applicant’s priority date. The listing of a date for any category indicates that only applicants with a priority date which is earlier than the listed date may file their application.

5.  Section 203(b) of the INA prescribes preference classes for allotment of Employment-based immigrant visas as follows: 

EMPLOYMENT-BASED PREFERENCES

First :  Priority Workers:  28.6% of the worldwide employment-based preference level, plus any numbers not required for fourth and fifth preferences.

Second :  Members of the Professions Holding Advanced Degrees or Persons of Exceptional Ability:  28.6% of the worldwide employment-based preference level, plus any numbers not required by first preference.

Third :  Skilled Workers, Professionals, and Other Workers:  28.6% of the worldwide level, plus any numbers not required by first and second preferences, not more than 10,000 of which to "*Other Workers".

Fourth :  Certain Special Immigrants:  7.1% of the worldwide level.

Fifth :  Employment Creation:  7.1% of the worldwide level, of which 32% are reserved as follows: 20% reserved for qualified immigrants who invest in a rural area; 10% reserved for qualified immigrants who invest in a high unemployment area; and 2% reserved for qualified immigrants who invest in infrastructure projects. The remaining 68% are unreserved and are allotted for all other qualified immigrants.

A.  FINAL ACTION DATES FOR EMPLOYMENT-BASED PREFERENCE CASES

*Employment Third Preference Other Workers Category: Section 203(e) of the Nicaraguan and Central American Relief Act (NACARA) passed by Congress in November 1997, as amended by Section 1(e) of Pub. L. 105-139, provides that once the Employment Third Preference Other Worker (EW) cut-off date has reached the priority date of the latest EW petition approved prior to November 19, 1997, the 10,000 EW numbers available for a fiscal year are to be reduced by up to 5,000 annually beginning in the following fiscal year. This reduction is to be made for as long as necessary to offset adjustments under the NACARA program. Since the EW final action date reached November 19, 1997 during Fiscal Year 2001, the reduction in the EW annual limit to 5,000 began in Fiscal Year 2002. For Fiscal Year 2024 this reduction will be limited to approximately 150.

B.  DATES FOR FILING OF EMPLOYMENT-BASED VISA APPLICATIONS

B .   DIVERSITY IMMIGRANT (DV) CATEGORY FOR THE MONTH OF MAY

Section 203(c) of the INA provides up to 55,000 immigrant visas each fiscal year to permit additional immigration opportunities for persons from countries with low admissions during the previous five years.  The NACARA stipulates that beginning with DV-99, and for as long as necessary, up to 5,000 of the 55,000 annually allocated diversity visas will be made available for use under the NACARA program.  Visa numbers made available to NACARA applicants in FY 2023 will result in reduction of the DV-2024 annual limit to approximately 54,850.  Section 5104 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2024 amended the NACARA’s provisions on the Diversity Visa program such that the number of visas made available under the NDAA will be deducted from the 55,000 DVs annually allocated.  These amendments will not impact the number of diversity visas available until FY 2025.  DVs are divided among six geographic regions. No one country can receive more than seven percent of the available diversity visas in any one year.

For May , immigrant numbers in the DV category are available to qualified DV-2024 applicants chargeable to all regions/eligible countries as follows. When an allocation cut-off number is shown, visas are available only for applicants with DV regional lottery rank numbers  BELOW  the specified allocation cut-off number:

Entitlement to immigrant status in the DV category lasts only through the end of the fiscal (visa) year for which the applicant is selected in the lottery. The year of entitlement for all applicants registered for the DV-2024 program ends as of September 30, 2024. DV visas may not be issued to DV-2024 applicants after that date. Similarly, spouses and children accompanying or following to join DV-2024 principals are only entitled to derivative DV status until September 30, 2024. DV visa availability through the very end of FY-2024 cannot be taken for granted. Numbers could be exhausted prior to September 30.

C.   THE DIVERSITY (DV) IMMIGRANT CATEGORY RANK CUT-OFFS WHICH WILL APPLY IN JUNE

For June , immigrant numbers in the DV category are available to qualified DV-2024 applicants chargeable to all regions/eligible countries as follows. When an allocation cut-off number is shown, visas are available only for applicants with DV regional lottery rank numbers  BELOW  the specified allocation cut-off number:

D.   EMPLOYMENT FOURTH PREFERENCE (SR) RELIGIOUS WORKERS CATEGOY EXTENDED

H.R. 2882, signed on March 23, 2024, extended the Employment Fourth Preference Certain Religious Workers (SR) category until September 30, 2024.  No SR visas may be issued overseas, or final action taken on adjustment of status cases, after midnight September 29, 2024.  Visas issued prior to that date will be valid only until September 29, 2024, and all individuals seeking admission in the non-minister special immigrant category must be admitted (repeat admitted) into the United States no later than midnight September 29, 2024. 

The SR category is subject to the same final action dates as the other Employment Fourth Preference categories per applicable foreign state of chargeability. 

E.   ANNUAL WAITING LIST REPORT OF IMMIGRANT VISA APPLICANTS IN THE FAMILY-SPONSORED AND EMPLOYMENT-BASED PREFERENCES REGISTERED AT THE NATIONAL VISA CENTER AS OF NOVEMBER 1, 2023

F.   U.S. GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE SPECIAL IMMIGRANT VISAS (SIVs)

The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2024, signed into law on December 22, 2023, may affect certain current and former employees of the U.S. Government abroad applying for SIVs or adjustment of status, as described in section 101(a)(27)(D) of the INA.  This does not affect certain Iraqis and Afghans applying for SQ and SI SIVs.  Applicants should contact the consular section at which they filed their Form DS‑1884 for further information on the impact of that law on their case.
