How to apply

If you’re invited to apply to sponsor your parents and grandparents, there are 2 applications:

• You must apply to become a sponsor.
• Your parents or grandparents must apply for permanent residence.

Submit both the sponsorship and the permanent residence applications  online at the same time .

Check application processing times

The 2023 intake is closed

For the 2023 intake, we invited potential sponsors from the remaining pool of interest to sponsor forms submitted in 2020.

Between October 10 and 23, 2023, we sent 24,200 invitations to apply. The deadline to submit your application has now passed.

We aren’t accepting any more applications for the 2023 intake.

Step 1. Get an invitation to apply

We randomly select and invite potential sponsors who submitted interest to sponsor forms to apply to sponsor their parents and grandparents.

Step 2. Fill out the application online

If you’re invited to apply, the principal applicant (or your representative) must apply online using the

• Permanent Residence (PR) Portal  (if you’re applying by yourself)
• Representative Permanent Residence (PR) Portal  (if you’re using a representative)

Note: If more than one parent or grandparent is applying on their own as principal applicants, they must create their own portal account and electronically sign their own application.

Don’t start filling out your application unless you’re invited to apply. If you apply without being invited, we

• will return your application and
• won’t refund the sponsorship application processing fee

Documents you’ll need for your application

Before you submit your application.

You ( the sponsor ) must download and fill out these PDF forms:

• Document Checklist — Sponsor [IMM 5771] (PDF, 1 MB)
• You, your co-signer (if applicable) and the person you’re sponsoring must sign this form electronically
• Financial Evaluation for Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship [IMM 5768] (PDF, 1.54 MB)
• Income Sources for the Sponsorship of Parents and Grandparents [IMM 5748] (PDF, 1.53 MB) , if this applies.
• You, your common-law partner and the person who administers the declaration must all sign and date this form by hand

The person you’re sponsoring (principal applicant) will

• upload the forms to their online application
• electronically sign the entire application, including for their family members

Tips for downloading and filling out the PDF forms

• Make sure you have Adobe Reader 10 or higher and JavaScript is turned on. If you have trouble downloading, right-click the link and choose “Save target as...”
• Fill out the form on your computer instead of by hand. It’s easier and reduces mistakes that can cause delays. Printing can reduce the quality of the forms, which can also cause delays.
• Complete, sign and date your application forms.

Use the Instruction Guide [IMM 5772] to help you fill out the forms properly.

You ( the person being sponsored ) must fill out these digital forms online:

• Generic Application Form for Canada [IMM 0008]
• Schedule A – Background/Declaration [IMM 5669]
• Additional Family Information [IMM 5406]
• Supplementary Information – Your Travels [IMM 5562]

Any dependant on file 18 years of age or older must also complete a separate IMM 5669, IMM 5406, IMM 5562 and if applicable, IMM 5476.

You must also complete these PDF forms, if they apply to you or any of your dependant(s), and upload them to your online application:

• Statutory Declaration of Common-Law Union [IMM 5409] (PDF, 0.78 MB)
• Statutory Declaration of Severance of a Common-Law Union [IMM 5519] (PDF, 1.84 MB)
• Details of Military Service [IMM 5546] (PDF, 1.18 MB)
• Details of Government Employment (PDF, 2.57 MB)
• Details of Police Service (PDF, 2.57 MB)
• Complete, sign and date your forms.

Get your fingerprints and photo taken

You and any dependants between the ages of 14 and 79 need to have your fingerprints scanned and photo taken (biometrics).

After you submit your application, we’ll send you a letter that says you need to give your biometrics. You should get this done as soon as you receive the biometric instruction letter from us. You have 30 days from the date of the letter to go to a biometric collection service point of your choice to give your biometrics.

Note: You have to give your biometrics and pay the fee, even if you gave your biometrics in the past to support a visitor visa, study or work permit application, or a different permanent resident application. If the biometrics fee isn’t paid when you submit your application , you may experience delays.

Photo instructions

You need one photo for each person on your application.

Follow the instructions in the online application to scan and upload both sides of your photo.

While your application is being processed

During processing, we’ll ask you to submit

• medical exams
• You don’t have to send police certificates when you apply. We’ll ask you for them later in the process.
• You and each family member 18 years of age or older (who isn’t already a Canadian citizen or permanent resident) needs a police certificate.
• Depending on processing times, we may ask you for new certificates.

If you want to use an immigration representative

If you’re a representative , find out how you can create an account and submit applications on behalf of your clients .

If you want to appoint someone to do business with IRCC on your behalf, you must

• submit a Use of a Representative [IMM 5476] (PDF, 648.31 KB) form
• sign it electronically and get your immigration representative to do so also
• upload it with your application

An immigration representative (an immigration consultant or lawyer) can give you advice and help you with your application for a fee, but they can’t

• open a portal account on your behalf
• electronically sign the application for you
• sign into the portal using your username and password

A representative can fill out forms and communicate with IRCC on your behalf through their own account. They can also

• help you prepare the supporting documents you need to upload
• answer questions about the forms

After you read the declaration, you must be the one who types your name and clicks the “submit” button . This is the legal requirement for your application to be considered “signed,” according to Canada’s immigration law.

Helping your parents and grandparents with their application

You have to ask permission and provide the right forms if you want to

• this means that you’d be acting as their representative
• check on their application status

If you can’t apply online and require accommodations

If you, your sponsor or representative can’t apply online and require accommodations, including for a disability, you can ask for a paper, braille or large print version of the application package. To do this, send an email as soon as possible to [email protected] and include

• your full name
• the full name of the sponsor
• the confirmation number from the 2020 interest to sponsor form
• the sponsor
• the applicants (parents and grandparents)
• your immigration representative
• your invitation to apply letter sent in October 2023
• the language you prefer (English or French)
• We’ll send you links to the application package, which you then can print.
• Include your mailing address if you want a paper (regular) copy or large print sent to you.

If we approve your request, we’ll reply with instructions and tell you where to send your application. You must then fill out and sign the forms and return them by mail or courier to the mailing address in our message.

You must include a copy of the cover letter we sent approving you to apply using an alternate format with your application.

We must receive your application by the same deadline in your invitation to apply letter for the 2023 intake.

How to find your Canadian citizenship information

If you’re a Canadian citizen, to sponsor your parents or grandparents, you need

• the date you became a Canadian citizen
• your unique client identifier (UCI) or client ID number

To find the date and the number, check the back of your citizenship certificate .

If you don’t have your citizenship certificate, you can apply for a

• citizenship certificate urgently
• search of citizenship records urgently

If you can’t get proof of your citizenship by the due date indicated on your invitation to apply letter, you can include an explanation letter saying

• why you don’t have it and
• what steps you’ve taken to get it

Step 3. Pay your application fees

Step 4. Submit your online application

Before you submit your application, make sure you

• answer all questions on the forms
• electronically sign your application (type your full name exactly as shown on your passport)
• include your processing fee receipt
• upload a copy of your invitation to apply letter for the 2023 intake under the section “Required documents” in your online application

If your application is incomplete, we’ll send you a request letter to submit any missing documents. You’ll have 30 days to submit the missing documents.

Follow the instructions in this letter to submit the missing documentation. If your application is still incomplete after 30 days, we’ll return the application to you and it won’t be processed.

Step 5. Send us additional information during processing

During processing, the person you’re sponsoring must submit their

• police certificates
• biometrics within 30 days of receiving the biometric instruction letter

If the people you’re are sponsoring can’t give their biometrics on time

Book a biometric collection appointment as soon as you receive the biometric instruction letter to avoid processing delays. If the people you’re sponsoring can’t give biometrics within 30 days, use the web form to tell us why they need more time.

Get updates about your application

If you and the person you’re sponsoring meet the eligibility requirements, we’ll mail or email you a request to link your application to an online account so you can get updates on the progress of your application.

A super visa is a multiple entry visitor visa specifically for the parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents. It allows holders to stay in Canada for up to two years at a time without needing to renew their status.

The super visa allows eligible parents and grandparents to stay temporarily in Canada. To stay permanently, parents and grandparents must be sponsored for permanent residence by their Canadian child or grandchild.

Super Visa vs Visitor Visa

A Super visa is a type of Canadian visitor visa that is only available to parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents. The biggest difference between a super visa and a visitor visa is the length of time you are allowed to stay in Canada. Normally, a visitor visa can be valid for a stay of up to 6 months. To prolong your stay in Canada you need to apply to extend your visa . With a super visa, you may be able to stay in Canada for up to two years at a time without needing to apply for an extension.

How to Apply for a Super Visa

You can apply for a super visa online, or by submitting a paper-based application. In either case, you must prove that you are the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. Your application needs to include a letter of invitation from your child or grandchild that includes plans for your care and information about the number of people living in their household in Canada. You will also be required to demonstrate that you have private health insurance from a Canadian insurance company valid for at least one year. Your child or grandchild will also be required to demonstrate that they have enough funds to support you during your visit by meeting the Low Income Cut-Off (LICO) minimum for their family unit size.

Key Eligibility Criteria for the Canadian Super Visa

To be eligible for a Super Visa in Canada, the applicant must meet certain requirements. The Super Visa is specifically designed for parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents, allowing them to visit Canada for up to 5 years on each entry. Key requirements include:

• Relationship Proof : Applicants need to provide evidence of their relationship to the Canadian citizen or permanent resident, such as birth or baptismal certificates.
• Medical Admissibility : Proof of a medical examination and being admissible to Canada on health grounds is required.
• Health Insurance : Applicants must have private medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company. This insurance must cover health care, hospitalization, and repatriation, with a minimum coverage of $100,000 and be valid for at least 1 year from the date of entry.
• Letter of Invitation : A letter from the host child or grandchild in Canada is needed, including a promise of financial support for the length of the stay and a list of all household members.
• Financial Support Proof : The host child or grandchild in Canada must demonstrate that their household meets the low-income cut-off (LICO), providing documents like a recent tax assessment, pay stubs, or Employment Insurance benefit statements.

Additionally, there is an application fee of $100 per person. Applicants must apply from outside Canada and meet general temporary residence requirements as a visitor.

Super Visa for Visa-Exempt Visitors

Depending on their country of citizenship, some foreign nationals do not require a visitor visa to visit Canada. These are referred to as visa-exempt visitors. Visa-exempt visitors are only allowed to remain in Canada for a period of up to six months without renewing their status. So, parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents who are visa-exempt may still want to apply for a super visa. This will allow them to remain in Canada for up to two years at a time, increasing the time they can spend with their loved ones in Canada.

Visa-exempt parents and grandparents who apply for a super visa have to follow the same application procedure detailed above. However, successful applicants will be issued a letter to present to the border services officer when they enter Canada, which authorizes their stay, instead of a visa. Visa-exempt visitors who travel to Canada by air are required to apply for an electronic travel authorization (eTA), even if they have successfully applied for a super visa.

Super Visa Extensions

Super visas allow holders to remain in Canada for up to two years. If you want to stay in Canada for longer than two years, you must apply to extend your stay. You should submit your extension application no later than 30 days before your current status expires. If your current visa expires while your extension application is still being processed, you may remain in Canada while waiting for a decision to be made. This is called implied status .

Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship

As an alternative to the super visa, which allows holders to stay in Canada temporarily, you may wish to pursue permanent immigration through the Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship program.

Recent changes to visitor visa requirements for some Mexican nationals may leave some foreign nationals looking to visit Canada with questions about their own situation.

To assist, CIC News has compiled a list of frequently asked questions that may be helpful to review before expending the time, energy and money necessary to come to Canada.

How long can I stay in Canada as a visitor?

In most cases, visitors to Canada can remain in the country for six months from the day they enter Canada (or until their passport expires, whichever comes first). The date by which a visitor must leave Canada will be indicated by a stamp in their passport and/or a document provided to them by a Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officer.

Discover if You Are Eligible for Canadian Immigration

Visitors who would like to remain in Canada beyond their initially authorized stay can apply for an extension (more on this later).

What is the difference between a single and a multiple-entry visa?

As indicated by the name of the visa, single-entry visas permit the holder to enter Canada one time only, while a multiple-entry visa allows repeated entry to Canada so long as the visa remains valid.

Note: All visitor visa applicants are automatically considered for a multiple-entry visa but Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) reviews each application separately and issues every visitor a visa accordingly.

IRCC clarifies that single-entry visa recipients will require a new visa to enter Canada once they have left, unless they are travelling directly to either the United States or St. Pierre and Miquelon.

Meanwhile, multiple-entry visas are valid for the shorter of the following two periods: 10 years or one month before the expiration of the visa holder’s passport. Every entry to Canada using a multiple-entry visa allows the visa holder to remain in Canada for up to six months at a time.

Can I fill out one visa application for my whole family if we are travelling together?

No. While all visitor visa applications for one group of family members may be submitted in the same envelope (alongside one payment receipt accounting for the total fee of all applications), everyone must complete and sign their own visitor visa application.

This rule also applies to any other required forms, excluding the Family Information form, which must only be completed by applicants 18 years or older.

Note: Parents and guardians can help their children fill out their form(s), and every visitor visa applicant under the age of 18 must have their document(s) signed by a parent/guardian.

Is there any way I can help a friend or family member visit Canada?

Although your friends and family members must complete their own visa applications, a letter of invitation is a document you can submit to help a loved one come to Canada.

It should be noted that this document, which details how you may help the visa applicant (ex. offering to pay for accommodation), can help but does not guarantee the applicant will be approved for their visitor visa.

Do I need a medical exam to get a visitor visa?

This depends on the visitor’s length of stay in Canada.

In most cases, visitors in Canada for six months or less do not require a medical exam unless they will be working in a job where the “protection of public health is essential.” The list of jobs under this requirement is available here .

The above public health protection condition also applies to visitors who will be in Canada for longer than six months. In addition, visitors in Canada for six months or longer will need a medical exam if they meet either of the following two requirements:

• The applicant has been, for six or more consecutive months, living or residing in a designated country or territory *
• The applicant is applying for a Parent and Grandparent Super Visa

*This applies to all visitors, even those who are citizens of visa-exempt countries, who have been in any of the eligible countries “in the one year immediately preceding the date [the visitor] sought entry into Canada.”

Is a visitor visa the same thing as a visitor record?

No. A visitor visa is required by foreign nationals looking to travel and enter Canada as a visitor (in most cases, for up to six months).

Conversely, a visitor record is provided by CBSA officers to either extend or restrict the recipient’s stay in Canada. This type of document may also be given to foreign nationals, by either CBSA or IRCC, after their application to extend their stay or restore their status in Canada is approved.

I got a new passport but I have a valid visa in my old one. Can I use the visa in my old passport?

IRCC notes that it is possible to travel to Canada using a valid visitor visa placed in an old passport. However, travellers in this situation must bring both of the following documents with them to Canada:

• The old passport with the valid visa*
• The new valid passport or travel document

*Travellers may need to explain to CBSA officers why their old passport is no longer valid

Note: To avoid processing delays at the Canadian border, IRCC recommends that all visitors to Canada obtain a new visitor visa in their new, valid passport.

How can I extend my stay as a visitor?

Extending your stay in Canada requires that you submit biometrics (fingerprints and a photograph) and apply for a visitor record. This document allows visitors to Canada three options to extend their stay in the country:

• As a visitor
• As a worker authorized to work in Canada without a work permit
• As a student authorized to study in Canada without a study permit

Can I file an appeal if my visitor visa is denied?

There is no appeal process for a visitor visa application from IRCC.

When an applicant is denied a visitor visa to enter Canada, they may re-apply, but IRCC recommends that they only do so if their situation has changed, or they have new information to submit that may alter the outcome of their application.

How to apply for a parent or grandparent super visa

As a new permanent resident or citizen , you may want to invite your parents or grandparents to visit you in Canada for extended periods, for a variety of reasons. You may want them to stay with you after they retire, while you’re expecting a child or adjusting to parenthood , after the loss of a loved one, or just because you miss them.

For many newcomers, the process of inviting your parents or grandparents to stay with you in Canada isn’t as simple as just booking flight tickets. If your parents are foreign nationals, they may need a visa to enter Canada–– and the time limitations of a visitor visa may not always be sufficient for your needs.

The Canadian government’s super visa program makes it easier for your parents or grandparents to visit Canada for multiple lengthy stays over the course of a 10-year period, without having to reapply for a visa every time. In this article, we deep-dive into how to apply for a parent or grandparent super visa, including the eligibility criteria and documentation requirements.

A super visa is a multiple entry, temporary residence visa that allows parents and grandparents of Canadian permanent residents or citizens to stay with them in Canada for up to two years at a time. Starting July 4, 2022, super visa holders will be able to stay in Canada for up to five years at a time, with the option of applying for a two-year extension from within the country.

Typically, a super visa will be valid for up to 10 years (or the remaining validity of their passport), saving you and your parents or grandparents the hassle of reapplying for a visa each time they want to visit you.

When your parents or grandparents come to Canada on a super visa, their legal status will be that of a visitor. As a visitor, they will not have the same legal rights and responsibilities that you enjoy as a permanent resident or citizen, such as the right to work in Canada.

Although both the super visa and visitor visa grant visa holders a visitor status in Canada, they differ in several ways , including:

• Permitted duration of stay: A super visa will allow your parents or grandparents to stay in Canada for up to two years (up to five years for super visas issued after July 5, 2022). On the other hand, a visitor visa allows the holder to stay in Canada for up to six months, although the visa officer may sometimes grant a shorter duration visa.
• Validity of the visa: A super visa is usually valid for up to 10 years or until your passport expires whereas the validity of a visitor visa may be shorter.
• Applicant eligibility: While anyone can apply for a visitor visa for Canada, only parents or grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents qualify for a super visa.
• Single or multiple entry: Super visas always permit multiple entries into Canada, which means that the visa holder can exit the country and re-enter it as many times as needed. However, a visitor visa may be single or multiple entry. Visitor visa applicants cannot choose whether they want a single or multiple entry visa and the decision is up to the visa officer.

To qualify for a Canadian super visa, the applicant must:

• Be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian permanent resident or citizen.
• Apply from outside Canada.
• Have a signed letter of invitation from the child or grandchild they are visiting in Canada. (see the section below for more details).
• Have medical insurance coverage of at least $100,000 CAD valid for at least one year from a Canadian insurance provider.
• Meet other admissibility requirements, including clearing a medical exam. The Canadian government may also assess other factors while reviewing super visa applications, including the applicant’s ties to their home country, the purpose of their visit, the economic and political stability of their home country, and more.

If you‘re inviting your parents or grandparents to stay with you in Canada for an extended period, they will require a written letter of invitation from you for their super visa application.

A letter of invitation includes a written commitment that you’ll be financially responsible for the parent or grandparent you invite for as long as they stay in Canada. It must also include the following information:

About the person or people you’re inviting:

• Their complete name and date of birth.
• Their address and telephone number in their home country.
• Their relationship to you.
• The purpose of their trip and how long they plan to stay in Canada (it’s best to include dates).
• Where they will stay and how they will pay for expenses (e.g., completely sponsored by you or split based on how much money they plan to bring).

About you (the invitee):

• Your complete name and date of birth.
• Your address and phone number in Canada.
• Your legal status in Canada (whether you’re a permanent resident or citizen) along with a copy of your PR card, Canadian citizenship card, or Canadian birth certificate.
• Your job title.
• The number of people living in your household, including you, your spouse, dependents, and any other people you’ve sponsored.
• Details of your family, including names and dates of birth of your spouse, children, and other dependents.
• Proof that your income is equal to or more than the low-income cut-off (LICO) for the number of people in your household, including the parent or grandparent being invited. You can attach copies of your pay stubs , bank statements , letter of employment, employment insurance stubs , or Notice of Assessment (NOA) or T1/T4 for the previous tax year, as proof of income to show you have sufficient funds to provide for your family, as well as your parents or grandparents.
• A signed commitment to support your parent/grandparent financially for the duration of their stay in Canada.

The Canadian government accepts super visa applications throughout the year and there’s no quota or cap for the maximum number of super visas granted in a year. As long as both you and your parents/grandparents can submit documentary evidence to prove your eligibility, there’s a high likelihood your parents’/grandparents’ super visa application will be approved. Here’s an overview of the application process:

Choose between an online or paper application

The applicant must be outside Canada when applying for a super visa. They can submit their application online or on paper, however, online applications are recommended. By applying for a super visa online, applicants can avoid processing delays and courier charges, and can also track their application status online.

Gather essential documents

Your parent or grandparent should review the document checklist and gather all essential documents for the application. These will typically include their passports, birth and marriage certificates, travel dates (flight tickets or itinerary), proof of medical insurance, and the letter of invitation you send them, along with your proof of status in Canada and financial documents.

They will also need to submit copies of their financial documents (including bank statements, tax returns, property documents, investments, etc.) or employment letters, if any, to prove that they have significant ties to their home country and that their stay in Canada will be temporary.

Some of the required documents can vary based on the country the application is submitted in. For instance, in some cases, you may be required to get the letter of invitation notarized before sending it to your parents/grandparents.

Fill out and submit the super visa application

After collecting all the necessary documents, the applicant can fill in the super visa application. They will have to pay the processing fee as well as the biometrics fee online using a debit or credit card before applying. For paper applications, be sure to keep a copy of the receipt, as it will have to be submitted along with the filled-out application. If biometrics are required for your country, paper applications must be submitted in person at the local visa application centre.

Submit additional documents as needed

While your parents’ or grandparents’ super visa is being processed, they may be asked to submit additional documents. Depending on which country they are applying from, they may need to submit their biometrics (photograph and fingerprints), appear for a medical exam, and submit a police certificate. In some cases, applicants may also be required to attend an interview at their local visa office.

Receive the super visa and get ready to travel

Once the super visa application is processed and approved, your parents/grandparents will need to submit their passports to get their visa. The visa sticker will include the date of expiry, and your parents/grandparents will be able to travel to Canada as many times as they wish while the super visa is valid.

At the time of their travel, they will be asked to show their passport, visa, and medical insurance to the border officer.

Can you apply for a super visa if you’re from a visa-exempt country?

Individuals from visa-exempt countries can apply for a super visa if they intend to stay in Canada for more than six months at a time. The application process for visa-exempt travellers is a little different and, instead of receiving a visa sticker on your passport, you’ll get an approval letter to present to the border officer when you arrive.

The application processing fee for a parent or grandparent super visa is around $100 CAD. In addition, applicants may need to pay $85 CAD for biometric processing and between $200 CAD and $300 CAD for a medical exam, if one is required. These fees do not include the cost of travel, mandatory health insurance, courier charges, or the cost of their stay in Canada.

The processing time for a super visa varies based on the country you apply from. For instance, if you’re applying for one from India, the average processing time (not including the time for biometrics submission) is 135 days.

The processing time for your application will also depend on the number of applications received by the government, whether your application is complete, and how easy it is to verify the information you’ve provided. Be sure to check the government website for up-to-date processing times before applying.

Since the super visa only grants the holder a visitor status, your parents or grandparents will not be allowed to work while they are in Canada on a super visa. However, they may be eligible to apply for a work permit from within Canada. Depending on the type of work permit they qualify for, they may first need to find a job in Canada . It’s important to note that if their work permit application is approved, their status will change to that of a temporary worker and their super visa will no longer be valid.

A super visa is a temporary residence visa, so your parents or grandparents can only visit Canada for as long as their super visa is valid. However, there is no restriction on how long they need to stay outside Canada before re-entering the country. It’s important to note that they will require valid medical insurance each time they enter Canada, which may take some time to procure.

If you plan to invite your parents or grandparents to stay with you permanently, check if you’re eligible to sponsor them for permanent residence under the family sponsorship program . As permanent residents, your parents or grandparents can work in Canada and stay here permanently. However, the number of PRs granted under the family sponsorship program is limited and it can take two or more years for the application to be processed. While they wait for their PR application to be processed, your parents or grandparents can continue to stay with you on a valid super visa.

Hi, I applied for my parents visitor visa on 25th Feb, Biometric given on 5th March, Additional Documents requested on 18th March Additional documents submitted on 25th March Processing times is approx 20 Days. Its already more than processing timelines, Should I ask for GCMS notes or wait. IF Wait then how much more time. Thanks

How to apply on paper for a study permit

Step 1: Read the guide and get your application package

Read the instruction guide carefully before you complete your application . We won’t refund your application fee, so make sure you’re eligible for a study permit before you apply.

Step 2: Complete your application and attach your documents

To make sure you submit  all the pages  of form IMM 1294 with your application package, follow these steps:

Note:  If you validate the form before printing, you can make sure that you have answered all the questions and help avoid delays in processing your application.

• The last page of the form, with barcodes and a signature line, will automatically be created.
• Print, sign and date the form.
• print on white, bond-quality, non-glossy paper
• use a laser printer
• Place the barcode page on top of your package. If you have more than one package, place a separate barcode page on each one.

Your application may be delayed if any information or document is missing. The document checklist in the application package lists all the documents to include. Answer all questions carefully, completely and truthfully.

You and each one of your family members  must  fill out and sign their own forms even if you are travelling together as a family. If you are under the age of 18, your parent or guardian must sign your form.

Step 3: Pay your application fees

If you need an electronic travel authorization or visa

If you need an electronic travel authorization (eTA) or visa, we’ll issue it automatically at the same time as your study permit. You don’t need to apply separately or pay another fee.

In most cases, your fees will include:

• processing fees for you and anyone you include in your application

Third-party fees

Depending on your situation, you may need to pay fees to third parties for:

• medical exams
• police certificates
• language testing
• services at a visa application centre, if you use one

If you need to use a third party, pay them directly for their services.

Biometrics fee

In most cases, you should pay a biometrics fee  when you pay your application fees . If you don’t, you may experience delays. The biometrics fee covers the cost of collecting fingerprints and a digital photo.  Find out if you need to give your biometrics .

Step 4: Submit your application

When you submit your application, you also need to submit:

• your  original  travel passport
• all pages with visas
• all pages with stamps

You can submit your application to the closest visa application centre  to

• receive service in the local language
• take advantage of the centre’s extended hours of service
• track your application online
• have the assurance that your application is complete and all the proper documentation is included

You can’t fill out and save the application form using your Internet browser. To use the form, you need to:

• Use your computer (Mac or PC). The form won’t open on mobile devices (iPads, tablets, mobile phones, etc.)
• Install Adobe Reader 10 (or higher)
• Download the PDF file to your computer . Save the file in a place you can remember.
• Make sure you use Adobe Reader to open the form. Sometimes if you try to open the form directly, it will use your Internet browser to try to open it.

Note: If you are applying online , you don’t need to print and sign the form. Leave the signature section empty.
