Needed to get home from surgery

I had been hospitalized for three days and I had a ride from my son but the hospital didn’t have their stuff together and my son had to leave. I explained to them I wanted to go home but my ride was gone for the day. Eventually they came up with the idea that they call me a cab and give me a voucher. I waited and waited. Three hours pass and I decided to call the taxi service to find out what happened. I was told someone else took my ride, which didn’t make sense to me. Why didn’t they ask if it was me. I got angry and told them to send another one to pick me up. An hour passes and nothing. So I called back and was told they had to check to see if anything was available. What!! I told them what they needed to do and now. I waited and waited at the designated area in the hospital. Another half hour and they pulled up asking was I the client they were looking for. After that was established I got In my ride and was told by the driver that he just got the order and came right away. I appreciated that and he got me home safe and sound but the route he took was the long way there. If I were paying for it, I would have insisted the shorter way. Since I didn’t I said nothing but thought I see what you’re doing. I’m a little curious how much he put on the voucher. Don’t get me wrong it was a pleasant ride, that’s why I did tip him when I got home. I appreciated the fact that he waited until I got in the house safely.

This Company is a Joke!! With A capitol “J”

I can’t even rightly give them 1 star, but it was my only option. We scheduled them to pick up a group of 10 to shuttle us to an event and pick us up and they didn’t show up on time nor with enough vehicles. We schedule two vehicles and only one showed up……30 minutes late to boot. And not only did they not show up to pick us up to drive us to the event, they failed to come pick us up at the conclusion of then event. This company is completely undependable and should be ashamed to call themselves anything but a fraud. You will be stranded if you chose to use this company. Don’t book anything with this company unless you want to be looking for an alternative to get you to your destination. We had to bargain our way to find a way home because they left us standed in the middle of nowhere….literally.

Some kinks to work out…

The booking process is similar to Uber or Lyft, though the app could use some polishing up… I’ve been using them, at the recommendation of a friend, here and there over the past few months. My opinions thus far: PROS: You can pay with cash. Adjusting your trip is much easier than alternative apps. Pricing is reasonable. When it works, it works well. I’ve had success stories where I went from ordering the ride to sitting in the car and on my way in LESS than 2 minutes. This is, however, a rarity. CONS: The service is unreliable at best. I find myself waiting for a driver to be assigned to my trip more often than not. Sometimes a driver is never assigned to my trip, and I end up finding alternative means of transportation. This is, of course, after wasting a half hour to an hour getting the ride setup and waiting for a driver. I absolutely cannot depend on this service whatsoever.

Z-Trip: How ‘America’s Best DJ’ Pushes the Boundaries of Creativity

In the ‘90s, rock was rock, hip-hop was hip-hop, and never the twain did meet. then, at the turn of the century, a 73-minute, genre-bending bomb exploded onto the music scene, shattering notions about the limits of creativity and collaboration. uneasy listening, vol. i , a joint record from like-minded djs p and z-trip, broke genre conventions by mixing rock ‘n’ roll mainstays like rush and pat benatar with dance and hip-hop cuts from madonna, redman, and the pharcyde ..

The following comes from Crewest Studio, a company DMN is proud to be partnering with.

Welcome to The Conduit , a podcast featuring candid conversations with professional musicians who give listeners the unvarnished truth about being an artist in the music industry. In today’s episode, host and LA-based DJ, producer, and musician Dan Ubick (aka Constantine “Connie” Price) sits down with Zach Sciacca (better known as DJ Z-Trip ) to discuss the musician’s pioneering work as a key player in the mash-ups movement.

“It wasn’t like I set out to become a DJ,” says Z-Trip, whose Uneasy Listening arrived on the scene in 2001, just as samples, remixes, and mashups were gaining credibility as a valid form of self-expression. “It was very much about me having this music and wanting to share it,” he continues. “Once I realized that I could put it together and I could expose people to the things that I liked, the DJ thing came into play.”

Widely known as both the godfather of mashups and “America’s Best DJ,” an award he received in 2009 from the DJ Times , Z-Trip is also renowned for his technical abilities and production skills. Over the years, he’s collaborated with innovative artists like Nas, Beck, Public Enemy, and DJ Shadow, remixing songs from artists as varied as Bob Marley and the Butthole Surfers. In his interview, Z-Trip shares the brightest pearls of wisdom he’s pocketed along the way: “One thing I learned through the arc of my whole career is take chances,” he says. “Be risky, try to push boundaries. Don’t always play it safe. There’s a time to play it safe, there’s a time to lock in.”

Z-Trip also touches on his favorite genre-bending tracks (see Afrika Bambaataa’s “Planet Rock”), why creative consistency trumps big milestones, and how to find like-minded artists traveling a similar career path. His advice to aspiring DJs? “Every gig, go into it like it’s your first [and last],” he says, adding, “put your heart and fucking soul into it because you never know who’s watching.”

As a performer, Z-Trip is revered as one of the best live performance DJs in history, by both fans and peers. It’s no surprise fans voted him “America’s Best DJ” in 2009, beating out over 100 other DJ’s in DJ Times highly acclaimed annual readers poll. His worldwide sold out shows continue to set attendance records while drawing critical praise. “One of the great musical moments from Coachella (2002) was the frenzied set by turntable wizard Z-Trip. He had fans howling and bobbing, closing his set with a surprise appearance by Beck,” wrote the Los Angles Times. It’s a fact that many call him the “godfather of mash-ups”, as he is one of the originators of the genre.

His lengthy career has seen him crisscross the globe numerous times, chalking up rave reviews along the way. He returned to Coachella 2010, for his fourth appearance at the festival headlining the Sahara Tent, where the OC Register noted: “Even against two of the biggest draws on the schedule, Z-Trip raked ’em in, filling the Sahara with over 15,000 revelers.” His 2009 Detroit Electronic Music Festival performance to over 10,000 stole the festival receiving the lions share of press: “Z-Trip lit up Saturday night, first by jamming with RJD2 then following with a Detroit-saluting mash-up set,” beamed Billboard.

At the vanguard of dance music culture, he is at the heart of the DJ Hero™ video game series. Appearing as an avatar and providing several scorching remixes, Z-Trip’s relentless vision even defied the advanced technology. An 8-bar scratch that he wanted to incorporate into the game was too much for the game’s memory to handle. Beyond being immortalized as a playable character and his contribution of three exclusive tracks to the first installment, he remained a consultant, as well as executive producer, for DJ Hero 2 and created an additional two tracks.

Worldwide sold out shows would be enough for most artists, but not Z-Trip. His career brims with myriad milestones, starting from the now legendary mixtape, Uneasy Listening, Volume 1 , which the Phoenix, AZ native put together with Missouri’s notorious DJ P. Back in 2001, the idea of pitting classic rock tracks against hip-hop into a seamless mix that could find the Pharcyde rapping over the Eagles or Metallica grinding it out under the righteous bark of Midnight Oil was unheard of. But instead of hating it as expected, enraptured fans disseminated the initial run of only 1000 CDs across the internet. By year’s end, Uneasy Listening had made Z-Trip a burgeoning DJ star. It went on to receive critical acclaim and helped propel Z-Trip to national attention in 2002. It made album of the year lists in Spin, Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, Wired and XLR8R. More importantly, it also inadvertently created an entirely new genre of music.

Then, on top of being a world-class DJ, Z-Trip established himself as a formidable producer and his major label debut in 2005, Shifting Gears, was given 4 stars by Rolling Stone. Released on Hollywood Records in 2005, the album features guest artists Supernatural, MURS, Lyrics Born, Luke Sick, Aceyalone, Mystic, Prince Whipper Whip, Busdriver, Chester Bennington (from Linkin Park), Chuck D (from Public Enemy) and Zaakir aka Soup (from Jurassic 5). It spawned numerous Top 10 singles in the US and abroad.

A lifelong political activist, Z-Trip was a strong supporter of the Barack Obama’s successful campaign to become the President of the United States and released Party For Change and Victory Lap in 2009. Both exceeded 500,000 downloads and favorably reviewed by Wired, URB, BPM, and XLR8R to name a few. Z-Trip’s longtime friend and collaborator Shepard Fairey supplied the art.

After 14 months of sold-out shows at his Friday night headlining residency at Rain inside The Palms, Las Vegas, Z-Trip is taking a rest from his crowd-thrilling stint,”Z-Trip’s Revolution”. Upon displaying his genre bending skills and sharing his stage with many A-level guests including Three 6 Mafia, Common, Rev Run, Too Short, and De La Soul, Z-Trip is taking a rest from stage to focus on his next chapter of recorded music. What happens when you gaze at yourself in a muddled puddle of self-reflection? For filmmaking duo Bill and Turner Ross, it’s all about turning the camera inward to look outward, courtesy of the cinema verité style.

While “Gasoline Rainbow” has been mistaken as a documentary, the feature is, in fact, loosely scripted and relies on the improvisational techniques of its five leads, played by Tony Abuerto, Micah Bunch, Nichole Dukes, Nathaly Garcia, and Makai Garza.

The Ross Brothers, whose previous features include festival favorites “Bloody Nose, Empty Pockets” and “Contemporary Color,” described “Gasoline Rainbow” as a “punk rock” version of “The Wizard of Oz” meets “Easy Rider” in a directors’ statement.

“This is not a documentary but it is very sincere,” Turner Ross said. “We found if you give people a mask, then they actually share more than they would if we were just asking them to be themselves.”

The directors created scenarios in which an improvisational self-portrait of a generation could flourish.

Turner Ross added to IndieWire upon the film ‘s Venice premiere, “The documentary community — the non-fiction community — has really been kind to us. But the modes with which we operate are not part of the code around how journalistic documentary works. We look at this as a creative endeavor. We’re making movies. This is art for us. To get to the most honest place has meant dealing with honest people in honest situations, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t be constructed.”

“Gasoline Rainbow” premieres in select theaters May 10 and will be available to stream on Mubi May 31. Check out the trailer below and read the IndieWire review here .

Grandmother pleading for help in February disappearance of missing Missouri teen T’Montez Hurt

“I just want my grandson,” Tecona Donald-Sullivan told Dateline. “I just want him home safe.”

Tecona’s grandson, T’Montez Hurt, has been missing for two months. The 19-year-old was last seen on February 1, 2024, in Kansas City, Missouri.

“This is getting too weird,” she said.

Tecona told Dateline that their family is from St. Louis. She said her grandson was born in St. Louis and later moved to Nashville, Tennessee. “His mom moved out of town to Nashville to better her life,” she said. “T’Montez would come back every summer and holidays and stay with me.”

T'Montez Hurt and Tecona

Tecona said that when tragedy struck in 2017, T’Montez came back to St. Louis to stay with her for a bit. “His dad was killed, and it was really hard for me because I witnessed it,” she said of her son’s death. “I was suffering with PTSD. I sent him back to Tennessee and I explained to him I wasn’t doing it because of anything he had did.”

T’Montez didn’t stay away from Missouri long. Tecona said after he graduated high school in 2023, he decided to move back for college. “He wanted to come, and he had the desire to play ball. He’s very talented. I think he’s just born with it because his dad was the same way — something magical happened when they put that ball in their hand,” Tecona said. “He had the potential to be whatever he wanted to be.”

T’Montez started attending Western Missouri University in the fall of 2023. However, Tecona said, he couldn’t afford to go back in the spring, so he decided to take a semester off to save up money to go back.

T'Montez Hurt

By February 2024, T’Montez was living and working in Grain Valley, Missouri. “He got him a little job at Price Chopper,” Tecona said. “He was talking like, ‘I’m going to take this opportunity, and I’m going to work.’”

Tecona said that around 3 a.m. on February 1, she got a strange call from her grandson. He said he was at an apartment in Kansas City, Missouri. “He didn’t seem like himself,” she said. “He says, ‘Granny, just pray for me. Pray for me.’”

She said T’Montez told her he thought he may have been drugged. Tecona said she continued her conversation with T’Montez, but also called 911.

“911 dispatched to where T’Montez was,” she said. “We were still on the phone. The police ended up there.”

Tecona told Dateline T’Montez was then taken to the hospital. “He probably makes it to the hospital somewhere around 5 something a.m.,” she recalled.

Tecona said she spoke to a nurse at the hospital who conducted a urine test on T’Montez — but nothing came back as being in his system. “They said, well, they gotta discharge him,” Tecona said. But Tecona wanted T’Montez to stay at the hospital because when she spoke to him while he was there, he was still acting strange. “I said, ‘Well, can you keep him there until I get there?’ She said, ‘No, we gotta discharge him.’”

Tecona told Dateline that the hospital told her that they could call a cab for T'Montez. She said she asked if the cab could take him to the Greyhound bus station so he could get to St. Louis, where she lives.

“I said to T’Montez, ‘So, Granny got to get off the phone because Granny got to book your ticket,’” she remembered. “When I hung up, that was the last time that I’ve ever spoken to my grandson.”

Tecona told Dateline she tried calling T’Montez back several times but never got a response.

She reported him missing.

The Kansas City Missouri Police Department is investigating T’Montez’s case. Their Public Information Office told Dateline to refer to their social media pages for information on his disappearance. According to their post on X, T’Montez was last seen on February 1, 2024, “in the area of 12th & Troost Ave around 11:40 a.m.,” and was “believed to be walking in the area of 77th St & Troost at 1:30 p.m. in Kansas City, Missouri.”

According to Tecona, security footage showed T’Montez walking in the area of the Greyhound bus station. She said the station was closed when the cab, a zTrip ride service car, dropped him off. “He checks the door, then goes back to the zTrip to try to get back in. He cannot get in,” Tecona said. The driver “never opened the door, never tried to let T’Montez in.” Tecona said her grandson had left his phone in the car, which she later picked up at the zTrip station .

Tecona said that same day, she made it down to Kansas City and immediately began searching for her grandson. “I went to homeless [camps], I’ve been in trash cans,” she said. “I went and caught the buses and rode over in Kansas looking for my grandson.”

T’Montez’s mother and family in Nashville made their way to St. Louis to help with the search. “This lady is disheartened,” Tecona said about T’Motenz’s mother. “She’s riding around Kansas City on one side and I’m on the other side.”

T'Montez Hurt

Tecona told Dateline that she hopes that T’Montez’s case can get the same attention as Riley Strain’s did. Strain was a 22-year-old who vanished in March after leaving a bar in downtown Nashville. His body was found in a Nashville river two weeks later. “Riley got a whole billboard. Why T’Montez’s face isn’t up on a billboard?” Tecona said.

She also expressed disappointment in the Kansas City Missouri Police Department. “I ain’t seen them searching,” she said.

The Kansas City, Missouri Police Department’s Public Information Office told Dateline in an email that, T’Montez’s case “is an active and ongoing investigation” and did not respond to specific questions about the investigation. They did say “detectives will continue to follow all leads as they come.”

Tecona said she just wants her grandson to come home. “Granny is still looking for you,” she said.

T’Montez is 6’1” and 160 lbs. He was last seen wearing a royal blue Price Chopper polo shirt and green sweatpants.

Anyone with information on T’Montez’s whereabouts is asked to call the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department Missing Persons Unit at 816-234-5043.

Checker Cab in Jacksonville replaced by zTrip ride hailing service.

by admin | Jun 8, 2018 | Media | 0 comments

z trip logo

A new ride-hailing service in Jacksonville is leading to the renaming of two old standbys in the transportation world: Yellow Checker and Gator cab companies of Jacksonville will officially be called zTrip as of Tuesday.

The company zTrip is similar to other personal transportation services such as Uber and Lyft in that a mobile phone application is used to hail a ride, but the vehicles can also be hailed on the street by riders in the traditional fashion of waving down a taxi. Already present in several cities, zTrip will not only be offering the mobile app service, but Checker and Gator cabs in Jacksonville will be changing their names to follow the zTrip branding.

That means the traditional Checker and Gator cab vehicles familiar with riders will go from the yellow and checked motif to silver paint with the zTrip logo which has a red “z” and black lettering for the “Trip” part of the logo, said Bill George, president of Transdev On Demand, owner of zTrip, Gator Cab and Checker Cab.

“We started the zTrip app about five years ago. … It’s more than just a paint job. It’s complete use of technology,” George said.

The app is fully integrated into taxi cellphone dispatching systems, he said.

Boulder, Colo., Pittsburgh, Pa., and Kansas City, Mo. and Kansas, have already had Yellow Cab service converted.

The zTrip cars will still be considered taxicabs, but the company will also offer unmarked cars, which are more standard in Uber and Lyft services.

“They have all the capabilities of a cab; you can still hop into one. We offer flexibility of payment; you can pay the driver in cash or credit card or through the app,” George said. Uber is paid automatically through the smartphone application.

“We also allow you to book us now or book us later,” George said. Uber is virtually on-demand and comes immediately when hailed. George said riders can reserve a zTrip ride several hours in advance.

Another feature of Uber and Lyft services is that they normally have lower fares. But George said the zTrip service is different from Uber or Lyft because zTrip does not do “surge pricing,” which increases fares during peak times of use.

“On a basis when they’re not surging, they [Uber and Lyft] can be cheaper. On the average trip, they might be a dollar or two cheaper, but when they surge they’re more expensive,” George said.

George said zTrip realizes there is still brand identity with the traditional taxis, so not all of them will disappear.

“When we change over a fleet, we put a host of new vehicles in there. In Jacksonville, we’ve added a bunch of new vans,” George said. “What we don’t do is paint over the yellow vehicles. There’s still some brand identity there.”

George said with the transition of the company and services added in with the fleet conversion and marketing, the project is costing the company $2.8 million.

“It’s a tremendous undertaking, but one that we get very positive results” in the cities that have already undergone the conversion, George said.

The alternative ride-hailing services have met with some controversy in many cities, including Jacksonville.

Jacksonville has failed to force Uber and Lyft and their drivers to follow the same regulations required of taxi drivers, which include vehicle inspections, background checks of drivers, and annual licensing fees. The city had demanded that the companies stop their operations, and issued a limited number of citations to the companies and their drivers.

Uber and Lyft officials maintain that they perform their own background checks. Despite those efforts, Jacksonville city officials said that they, along with other cities in the state, are looking to the Florida Legislature to settle the issue with an umbrella state law. But no such measures have been implemented.

George said the zTrip drivers are licensed professionals who receive background checks that include fingerprinting.
