When booking your holiday, if you choose a holiday with Aer Lingus flights, there will be no fee to change your flights until the following dates:

• AerLingus: No change fees until 31 December 2020

The following 'No Flight Change Fee' is applicable for Ryanair flights:

• No change fee on new flight bookings departing before 30th of November, if the new travel date is before the 21st March 2021
• No change fee on flights departing in September (booked after 16th July)
• No change fee on flights departing in October & November (booked after 15th September)

Flights are only refundable if the flight is cancelled by the airline, otherwise flights are non-refundable

Do i need a covid-19 vaccine to join an intrepid trip as a senior.

Trips from 1 January 2023 onwards

From 1 January 2023, Intrepid will no longer require travellers to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 (excluding all Polar trips and select adventure cruises). However, we continue to strongly recommend that all Intrepid travellers and leaders get vaccinated to protect themselves and others.

Specific proof of testing or vaccination may still be required by your destination or airline. Please ensure you check travel and entry requirements carefully.

Who are Intrepid travellers?

Intrepid adventures are for travellers with a yearning to get off the beaten track. Whether you're travelling solo, with a group of friends, or are aged 18 or 70, there is an Intrepid adventure to suit your interests and comfort level. Each Intrepid adventure has a physical and cultural grading to help you decide if the trip is right for you. No special skills are required for most adventures, just a sense of adventure and a curiosity about the world. Even on our camping adventures no previous experience is required; our tents are easy to set up, even for first-time campers. 

Are there age restrictions on your trips?

For the majority of our trips the minimum age is 15. An adult must accompany all children under the age of 18. Our Overland Adventures have a minimum age of 18. Younger children can join us on our Family trips and Short Break Adventures, but check each trip for its minimum age, which is located on the trip’s overview page on the website. Most of our trips don’t have a maximum age limit, but a Self-Assessment Form is required for all passengers 70 years and over. 

How many people will be on my trip?

Good things come in small packages, which is why we keep our group sizes down. This means we’re small enough to remain flexible as we thread our way through communities without intimidating the locals. On most of our trips you’ll be part of an intimate group of 12-16 people, though our group sizes are on average 10 people. Our Overland trips are in purpose-built vehicles that can carry up to 24 travellers. Group sizes are displayed on each trip’s overview page on our website. 

I’m travelling alone – is that OK?

This is the beauty of the Intrepid style of travel: many of our travellers join because they are travelling solo and want to meet and share experiences with like-minded people.

I have a disability – can I join an Intrepid trip?

Intrepid is committed to making travel widely accessible, regardless of ability or disability. We ask that you carefully consider whether you are physically and mentally able to complete the itinerary you have chosen, recognising that on many trips you will be required to carry your own bags and use public transport. 

Where we can we will make reasonable adjustments to the operation of our trips to facilitate the requirements of disabled travellers – such as booking ground floor accommodation, or having our leaders communicate important directions in writing as well as verbally. Many travellers with disabilities have been able to enjoy our trips by travelling with a friend or companion who can assist with specific needs. If joining a group trip is not practical we may be able to provide you with a private departure. Please contact our sales team for further information on any of our itineraries.

Do I need to buy travel insurance?

Travel insurance is compulsory on all our trips if you’re travelling internationally. Minimum coverage may differ from trip to trip, so make sure you check the Travel Insurance section in your Essential Trip Information. You will not be permitted to join the group until your leader has sighted your insurance policy number and the insurance company's 24-hour emergency contact number – it’s really important there are no barriers to getting emergency assistance for you. 

Will I have my own room?

It's your call. Rooming on our trips is organised on a twin-share basis, but most of our trips also have the option to pay an extra fee for your own room. Just let us know at the time of booking and we'll arrange it for you. 

For twin-share rooms, we pair up solo travellers with another traveller of the same gender as per the gender marker on each of their passports. As a responsible tour operator, we strive to create a safe and inclusive environment for everyone. In the case that your gender identity differs from what's indicated on your passport, please contact us so that we can discuss rooming options with you. 

On a small selection of itineraries some accommodations are booked on an open-gender, multi-share basis. In those instances it will clearly be stated in your Essential Trip Information. 

How does group time work?

Whether you’re travelling alone or with a partner, our trips have a set itinerary. But within that there’s time set aside for your own exploration (if you want to – no pressure). Depending on how you're feeling, you may want to have some downtime, ask your guide for a few tips then head out alone, or hang out with the group and see where the day takes you. 

What makes a small group tour better than a coach tour?

The main difference between a small group tour and a coach tour is the size of the group; our tours have 10 travellers each (on average) while coaches can hold up to 60 people. This means that you'll never have to vie for your leader's attention on a small group tour because you'll automatically have it.

Some of us are now retired, or close to, and may no longer have important commitments, allowing more freedom and flexibility to travel.

The advantage of taking an  over 50s holiday  with us is that we take care of everything including flights, transfers, accommodation and guided excursions. All you need to decide is where you want to go to fulfil your travel wish list.

Here’s our best holiday destinations for over 50s to add to your bucket list and to inspire you for your next holiday to Europe . 

1. Experience the Golden Circle in Iceland

Known as the 'Land of Fire and Ice,' there are few places on earth which have such an array of natural wonders and contrasting dramatic landscapes as Iceland. The Golden Circle excursion on an  Iceland short break  is a firm favourite for many people.

The reason is simple – in one day, you’ll get to see the stunning Gullfoss waterfall, the UNESCO World Heritage Site Thingvellir National Park, and the regular eruptions from the geysers. You may even get a chance to see the Northern Lights on our 3-night trip to Iceland .

2. Explore Venice 

Take a trip you will fall in love with this year by experiencing the breath-taking beauty of Venice . Known as ‘La Serenissima’, it will be no surprise how it famously became known as ‘The Most Serene’ city in the world.

From the enchanting warren of canals, quaint alleys and busy squares, it is home to some of the most famous landmarks such as St. Mark’s Square, the Gothic building of Ca’ d’Oro and the imposing marble Palazzo Ducale. You can easily take an excursion and spend a day in Venice if you’re  staying in Lake Garda .

3. Take a Tram in Lisbon

One of the iconic symbols of Lisbon are the yellow trams or ‘remodelados’, and it’s a great way to see all the top sights like Belem Tower, Jerónimos Monastery, St George's Castle and Monument to the Discoveries.

It’s also lovely to just wander through the winding streets of Alfama, the oldest quarter of Lisbon, and soak up the traditional Portuguese atmosphere. You can easily  visit  Lisbon  from Estoril for a day trip or stay longer on a city break.

4. Try Your Luck in Monaco 

Experience the glitz and glamour of Monaco on a  day trip from Cannes . For one of the smallest countries in the world, it has a huge influence. Monaco is renowned for being the home to millionaires and Hollywood royalty, Princess Grace Kelly,, featuring an iconic Formula 1 racetrack, its beautiful weather and, of course, the Monte Carlo Casino.

You do not need to gamble to enter, you can just admire the building’s architecture designed by Charles Garnier. An interesting fact: citizens of Monaco are actually forbidden to gamble in the Casino!

5. Unwind in the Blue Lagoon in Malta

One of the  best things to do in Malta  if you have free time is to go swimming in the crystal waters of the Blue lagoon located on the island of Comino. The tiny island of Malta has a unique charm, with a delightfully sunny climate and a treasure trove of historic sites to visit.

Explore the capital city of Valletta, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the ancient walled city of Mdina or take a short ferry ride to the greener, more rural island of Gozo on our trip to Malta & Gozo .

6. Feel Like Royalty at the Alcázar of Seville

One of the  top sights in Spain , the Royal Alcázar of Seville is located near the well-known Jewish Quarter and is an impressive example of Renaissance and Baroque architecture. It is the oldest European Royal Palace that is still in use today and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.

During your holiday to Seville , you should take some time to explore the stunning courtyards and halls of the palace, as well as the Patio de las Doncellas. The Alcázar has been featured in several films and TV series including Lawrence of Arabia and, more recently, Game of Thrones . Another feature of the palace is the Royal Gardens where you can enjoy a magical maze of orange trees.

7. Visit Lake Bled

A  holiday in Slovenia  is very underrated. Located in the Julian Alps, Lake Bled is Slovenia’s most iconic destination – and for good reason. Surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery, the lake is home to Bled Island, perfectly picturesque with its church steeple peeking above the treetops.

8. Discover the Ancient Sites of Athens

Athens has a huge historical and cultural significance; it’s one of the top  highlights of a Greece trip . Often described as the cradle of civilisation, it is one of the most captivating and magical European destinations. 9. Admire the Colosseum in Rome

The Colosseum is one of the  iconic  sights in Italy  you must see . Construction of the Colosseum was started by Vespasian in 72 AD, in the grounds of Nero's private Domus Aurea. The 50,000-seat arena was used to stage spectacular gladiatorial games in front of bloodthirsty spectators.

The name “Colosseum” refers to the Colosso di Nerone, a giant statue of Nero that stood nearby. Rome is often referred to as the ‘Eternal City’ as the ancient Romans believed that even if empires fell, Rome would last forever. And when in Rome...make sure to visit the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps and St. Peter’s Basilica as well. 

10. Uncover Dubrovnik Old Town

If you're thinking of taking a Croatia holiday for the first time, we suggest Dubrovnik which was eloquently described by the poet Lord Byron as the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’. Dubrovnik is situated in the far south of Croatia and the old city itself is on UNESCO’s List of World Heritage Sites.

The ancient city wall is over four metres thick and its turrets and towers, once designed to protect the city, now make it one of the most picturesque sights in the Adriatic.
