    In contrast with the above, I would never use Amtrak from DC to travel all the way to Boston if airline flights are available. The trip just takes too long. The current Acela trains take about 7 hours one way and the Regionals take almost 8 hours. Let's say the new Amtrak train sets cut the DC-Boston travel time to 6 1/2 hours.
