Fans Are ‘Devastated’ Beyoncé’s ‘Renaissance’ Tour Isn’t Coming to Pittsburgh Anymore

  • By Larisha Paul

Consider the souls of Beyoncé ‘s Pittsburgh fans irrevocably broken. On Wednesday morning, Acrisure Stadium, which was set to host the Renaissance world tour on Aug. 3, shared a statement via social media announcing that the concert has been canceled “due to production logistics and scheduling issues.”

Due to production challenges with Beyoncé's stage setup and scheduling conflicts with some of the venues hosting The #RENAISSANCEWorldTour , the following changes have been made: Pittsburgh: 8/3 date cancelled Seattle: 9/13 date moved to 9/14 Kansas City: 9/18 date moved to 10/1 pic.twitter.com/XGDk7XUSAM — BEYONCÉ LEGION (@BeyLegion) July 5, 2023

Mayor Ed Gainey released a statement following the news. “Pittsburgh — we are deeply disappointed in the news that Beyoncé has canceled her performance on August 3. We were fully prepared to welcome her to Pittsburgh and honor her with an official day recognizing her visit and accomplishments,” he wrote. “We are in conversations with the promoter for the event in order to gain an understanding about what led to the cancellation, and if there is anything we can do as a city to find a new date or location for her show.”

“I am so sad and disappointed 😟 imagine being a fan since the time you could remember, as young as 6 and having your first Beyoncé concert be cancelled 😭,” one fan wrote on Twitter . “Pittsburgh my heart is broken honestly 😔😔 and a month before the show is sick.”

Another fan explained that the Pittsburgh stop was “quite literally the one thing I was looking forward to for the rest of summer,” with another adding : “Pushing through a day of work while knowing your Beyoncé tickets just got canceled is so painful.”

I have been looking forward to seeing Beyoncé since we secured tickets in February… to say I’m devastated would be a fucking understatement — Qi ✨ (@QDaddyTalley) July 5, 2023

What’s worse is that the announcement hit most ticket holders’ Twitter timeline before they were even notified by Ticketmaster. “Can’t believe i had to find out my Beyoncé show got canceled from Pop Tingz, this day is such a nightmare,” one fan wrote this morning, referring to the popular culture update account that falls tiers below the likes of Pop Crave and Pop Base. “Literally fell to the floor when I saw, I hate everything.”

Fans with tickets to  Beyoncé 's Pittsburgh stop on her Renaissance World Tour might be feeling a little heated right now.

On Wednesday, Acrisure Stadium's official Twitter account announced that the Aug. 3 stop in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has been pulled from the singer's schedule due to "production logistics and scheduling issues."

"Unfortunately the Aug. 3rd Pittsburgh stop of the RENAISSANCEWORLD TOUR will not be taking place. Refunds will automatically be issued at point of purchase," the tweet reads. "If you have any questions or issues regarding your ticket order, please contact your point of purchase."

The Pittsburgh show has already been removed from Beyoncé's tour website, which now shows the singer performing in Boston, Massachusetts, on Aug. 1, before heading directly to Washington D.C. for two shows on Aug. 5 and Aug. 6.

The "America Has a Problem" singer has not yet commented on the cancelation.

The Pittsburgh stop would have been the 11th show of the U.S. leg of the Renaissance tour, which kicks off July 12 at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field. The American run features shows in cities including East Rutherford, New Jersey, Detroit, Atlanta and Las Vegas before wrapping in early October at an  also-rescheduled date  in Kansas City, Missouri.

And, with 57 scheduled performances,  Forbes  predicts Beyoncé could earn nearly $2.1 billion (that's a whopping $37 million per show) and outearn Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour by around $500 million.

Meanwhile,  Beyoncé and Amazon Music  recently dropped an exclusive  Renaissance World Tour merch collection  fans can shop now. The collaboration is coming to life over the course of four, distinct Drops, released throughout the North American leg of the tour.

Drop 1.0 of the collection features  Renaissance  tees, sweatshirts, posters and more that are all available to shop now. The inaugural drop in the four-part collaboration between Beyoncé and Amazon includes five items that celebrate the iconography of the tour.

Why Beyoncé canceled her Pittsburgh Renaissance show and postponed 2 others

Sorry, Beyoncé fans: The Queen Bee, who is currently on her Renaissance World Tour , is no longer set to perform at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh on Aug. 3.

Many fans were devastated when the official Twitter account of the stadium announced July 5 that the show was canceled.

"Due to production logistics and scheduling issues, unfortunately the August 3rd Pittsburgh stop of the RENAISSANCEWORLD TOUR will not be taking place. Refunds will automatically be issued at point of purchase," a statement by Acrisure Stadium read . "If you have any questions or issues regarding your ticket order, please contact your point of purchase."

Lumen Field in Seattle and GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City also announced they had to push back their dates for Beyoncé's upcoming shows. So now, Bey will be hitting Seattle on Sept. 14, instead of Sept. 13, and she'll be performing in Kansas City on Oct. 1, instead of Sept. 18.

As to why they had to postpone their dates, both venues said they were dealing with the same issues that Acrisure Stadium was facing.

On Twitter, fans sounded off about the change in the tour's schedule.

"I got Beyoncé tickets to surprise my sister who literally watches her performances every weekend and now they’ve cancelled the Pittsburgh show," one person said with a sad face emoji.

Another wrote , "I have been looking forward to seeing Beyoncé since we secured tickets in February… to say I’m devastated would be a f---ing understatement."

A third added , "I am so sad and disappointed. Imagine being a fan since the time you could remember , as young as 6 and having your first Beyoncé concert be cancelled. Pittsburgh my heart is broken honestly and a month before the show is sickk."

A fourth wrote , "@Beyonce you got the Pittsburgh behive in an uproar, why you cancel?"

On her Renaissance World Tour, Beyoncé has had a number of memorable moments that have made an impact, like when her daughter Blue Ivy Carter performed on stage alongside her.

“She’s absolutely awesome,” Kelly Rowland said of Blue Ivy on TODAY May 31 of the moment.

“I’m so proud of her,” she added.

Last month, Lizzo shared on Instagram how much it meant to her when Beyoncé gave the "Juice" singer a shoutout during her show.

"In that moment I was thinking about baby me, listening to Happy Face by destiny’s child and crying myself to sleep because of bullies…," Lizzo penned in her caption . "I thought about Beyoncé jumping into the room where Tina Turner was waiting to meet her for the first time.

"I think of what we all mean to people and how cyclical it is," she continued. "We are all so infinitesimally and maximally connected and significant. It’s an honor. Thank You @beyonce."

The Queen Bee also made a fan's day when she announced the gender of their baby on stage.

"Girls," she said after holding up an envelope that was handed to her.

"Congratulations beautiful. God bless you," Beyoncé added.

CORRECTION (July 5, 2023 at 7:06 p.m. ET): An earlier version of this story incorrectly spelled Pittsburgh as "Pittsburg" in one instance. It has been updated to the correct spelling.

Beyoncé fans in the Steel City may have to travel elsewhere to see her Renaissance World Tour after the show in Pittsburgh was canceled.

The "Break My Soul" singer , 41, was scheduled to perform at Acrisure Stadium on Aug. 3. However, on Wednesday, the venue announced the show was canceled "due to production logistics and scheduling issues." Refunds will be issued to fans at the point of purchase, the venue said in a statement.

Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey said the city was "fully prepared" to welcome Beyoncé to the city, even planning to honor her with an "official day" to recognize her accomplishments.

"We are in conversations with the promoter for the event in order to gain an understanding about what led to the cancellation, and if there is anything we can do as a city to find a new date or location for her show," Gainey wrote in a statement Tuesday.

Beyoncé has not commented on the Pittsburgh show being canceled, but it has already been removed from her tour website . There are no dates listed between her scheduled Aug. 1 show at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts and the Aug. 5 and Aug. 6 shows at FedExField in Landover, Maryland.

The Renaissance World Tour began in Stockholm on May 10. After finishing the European leg of the tour, Beyoncé is scheduled to debut the show in North America in Toronto on Saturday. The tour is scheduled to wrap up in Kansas City, Missouri, on Oct. 1.

The Kansas City performance also faced "logistics and scheduling issues," but it was rescheduled. The show was first scheduled for Sept. 18, but GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium announced Wednesday it was moved to Oct. 1 instead.

"All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new date. If you have any questions or issues regarding your ticket order, please contact Ticketmaster," the venue's message read .

The Seattle stop of the tour was also postponed by one day and will now take place on Sept. 14, according to a tweet by Lumen Field.

During Beyoncé's tour stop in Paris , the singer's eldest daughter with husband JAY-Z , Blue Ivy Carter , joined her mom during performances of "My Power" and "Black Parade." Dressed in a silver jumpsuit that matched Beyoncé's, Blue Ivy joined her mom's backup dancers for a flawless performance.

"Give it up for Blue," Beyoncé told the crowd, which broke into a roaring applause.

Although Beyoncé's dance captain Ashley Everett is sitting out the Renaissance Tour, she told PEOPLE she is closely watching Blue Ivy's performances. "Oh my gosh, I'm like a proud auntie over here," Everett said. "I was [basically] there when she was born."

"I'm just watching her, even from the first show to now, she's just flourishing already," Everett added. "I'm like 'Oh, go Blue boo!' She is ahead of all of us."

Beyoncé cancels, postpones three U.S. dates on ‘Renaissance World Tour’

Tour stops in Seattle and Kansas City are postponed, while a stop in Pittsburgh is canceled, all due to “production logistics and scheduling issues.”

The North American leg of Beyoncé’s “Renaissance World Tour” is set to begin later this month, but there are a few hiccups. Three future shows in Pennsylvania, Oregon, and Missouri have already been canceled or postponed, as announced by the venues.

Beyoncé’s Aug. 3 tour stop in Pittsburgh is canceled. Representatives of the Acrisure Stadium announced via  Twitter  on Wednesday that the show won’t go on because of “production logistics and scheduling issues.” Acrisure Stadium stated that fans would get refunds at the point of purchase.

Two shows on the “Renaissance World Tour” are now postponed. The show initially slated for Sept. 13 at Seattle’s  Lumen Field  has moved one day to Sept. 14. Meanwhile, the Sept. 18 gig at  GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium  in Kansas City will now take place on Oct. 1, positioning it as the final concert date of the tour.

Just as Acrisure Stadium did, both the Lumen Field and GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium cited via Twitter “production logistics and scheduling issues” as the reasoning behind the postponed concert dates. Each venue stated that ticket holders for the original dates would be honored for the new dates.

Beyoncé wrapped the  European leg  of the “Renaissance World Tour” in Warsaw last month. The first leg had zero cancelations or postponements. The “Break My Soul” superstar played for 1.05 million concertgoers so far, hitting 21 international cities in countries that included England, Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden.

The European leg generated $154.4 million for Beyoncé, the most she’s ever grossed for the European leg of her previous tours. With the North American tour scheduled for Saturday in Toronto, she’s currently on pace to gross more than $264 million.

With the cancelation of the Pittsburgh show, the North American leg of the “Renaissance World Tour” is now slated to hit 25 cities including Nashville, Chicago, Las Vegas, Boston, Atlanta, Miami, Philadelphia, and Detroit.

Beyoncé returned to the stage for first time in four years in January

Last month, Beyoncé made her return to the stage and performed at the opening of the Atlantis The Royal hotel in Dubai. Despite the luxury experience, the singer left fans wanting more, as she did not perform any songs from "Renaissance," The Hollywood Reporter reported.

The invitation-only event marked her first concert in more than four years. She last performed at the  Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 event in 2018.

Beyoncé dominates Grammy nominations

The singer's tour announcement comes days ahead of the Grammys where Beyoncé leads the 2023 lineup with nine nominations, including best dance/electronic album ("Renaissance"), best R&B performance ("Virgo’s Groove") and best traditional R&B performance ("Plastic Off the Sofa").

With 28 wins and 88 total career nominations, Beyoncé now ties her husband, rapper Jay-Z , for the most nominations in Grammy history. If Beyoncé picks up four or more awards this year, she will surpass the late Georg Solti for the most Grammy wins of all time. (The Hungarian-born conductor holds the record with 31.)

Beyoncé and Jay-Z have got "to be the most intense power couple in the history of music," Recording Academy president Harvey Mason Jr. Mason said after the nominations were revealed. "That’s music and Grammy royalty – that’s the royal family."

Their combined 176 nominations are "absolutely a testament to their talent, to their level of excellence, to their work ethic, to their level of greatness over a long period of time. I don’t even know what the next (leading) couple would be, but it’s not anywhere close.”

Beyoncé's 'Break My Soul.' Taylor Swift's 'Anti-Hero.'  These are the 10 best songs of 2022, ranked.

Beyoncé noticeably was not nominated in any of the music video categories for the Grammys, having not released any album visuals for "Renaissance" since its debut.

Beyonce befriends young fan after video goes viral

O ver this past week, a video may have popped up on your social media timeline of a cute young boy in the Philippines asking his mom about Beyoncé’s whereabouts.

“Where’s Beyoncé?” Tyler asked his mom Bea Fabregas, in a video posted to Instagram , as the two were eating pizza.

He asked once more before his mom revealed that the Queen Bey was at her own home.

“Can I visit Beyoncé?” he innocently asks to which Fabregas had to explain that while they know who the “Cowboy Carter” singer is, they don’t know her personally.

“She is not mama’s friend,” the Magic 89.9 DJ explained to her son.

However, Tyler didn’t believe that and declared that was false and that they are friends. He also expressed his desire to meet her.

The video immediately went viral garnering a large number of likes and shares.

With the power of the Beyhive and the internet- Tyler and Beyoncé are now friends.

His mom revealed in a post on Wednesday that the “Crazy in Love” singer sent him a bouquet of blue flowers, a stuffed animal along with a card that read in part “To my friend Tyler” and also told him “I see your halo, Tyler.”

She thanked Beyoncé and her publicist Yvette Noel Schure, who helped make this happen.

“I mean with the amount of mentions and videos Beyoncé gets every day, it still blows our mind to know time was set aside to send this sweet gift over,” Fabregas explained.

“Thank you to everyone who shared it, commented, liked it. Tyler may be too young to remember all this, but I’ll always remind him to dream big and shoot for the stars!! BEYONCE SENT MY BABY FLOWERS!!!!”

In Pennsylvania, Biden slams Trump as he calls for a fairer tax code.

In Scranton, his hometown, the president discussed tax policy in terms of economic fairness, arguing that Donald Trump’s tax cuts benefited billionaires.

President Biden speaking in Washington recently.

By Nicholas Nehamas

Reporting from Scranton, Pa.

President Biden kicked off a three-day tour of Pennsylvania, a crucial battleground state, with a speech on Tuesday that focused on taxes and aimed to contrast his policies with those of former President Donald J. Trump.

In Scranton, his hometown, Mr. Biden spoke about the tax code in the frame of economic fairness, arguing that Mr. Trump’s tax cuts had benefited billionaires while his own agenda had helped working- and middle-class families.

“A fair tax code is how we invest in the things that make this country strong,” he said. “Health care, education, defense and so much more.”

Speaking about lessons of hard work and fairness he said he had learned growing up in Scranton, Mr. Biden suggested that Mr. Trump had learned different lessons. “He learned the best way to get rich is to inherit it,” he said.

It was standard election-year fare, but the backdrop to Mr. Biden’s campaign swing could not be more unusual. In an unprecedented trial, Mr. Trump is spending most of this week, and much of the coming month or two, in a Manhattan courtroom facing criminal charges. Democrats hope that the contrast of Mr. Biden campaigning and carrying out the duties of a president while Mr. Trump’s lawyers plead his innocence will highlight the choice voters face in November.

Karine Jean-Pierre, the White House press secretary, did not answer when asked if Mr. Biden was watching the Trump trial or being briefed on it.

“His focus is on the American people,” she said during a briefing with reporters aboard Air Force One en route to Scranton.

On Tuesday, the day after Tax Day, Mr. Biden promoted his plans for changes to the tax code, including expanding the child tax credit, instituting a tax credit for first-time home buyers and making permanent tax credits for those who buy health insurance under the Affordable Care Act.

He often asks his audiences on the campaign trail: “Does anybody think the tax code is fair?”

Pennsylvania is a key target for both the Biden and Trump campaigns. Mr. Biden’s easiest path to re-election involves him winning Pennsylvania, as well as Michigan and Wisconsin, the so-called blue wall states. In 2020, he narrowly defeated Mr. Trump in Pennsylvania by about 80,000 votes. Polling shows that another tight race is likely in the state, the nation’s most populous battleground.

Mr. Trump held a major rally in eastern Pennsylvania on Saturday. Both he and Mr. Biden, who spent much of his childhood in Scranton, have sought to highlight their ties to the state. “I went to school here, right?” Mr. Trump, a graduate of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, reminded his audience. “I went to school in Pennsylvania. I love Pennsylvania.”

While Mr. Biden’s campaign has invested heavily in opening offices and hiring staff members around the state, Pennsylvania Democrats have urged him to broaden his travel beyond Philadelphia, a major hub of Democratic votes that is also logistically convenient for him to visit. They say it is imperative that Mr. Biden campaign in western Pennsylvania, as well as swing areas like Erie County, which Mr. Biden flipped in 2020.

This week, Mr. Biden is doing just that. After leaving Scranton, he will visit Pittsburgh on Wednesday to give an official address at the headquarters of the United Steelworkers. Unions are a major constituency for Democrats, and Mr. Biden has signaled opposition to an effort by a Japanese company to acquire U.S. Steel, a move also opposed by the steelworkers union, which has endorsed him.

On Thursday, he will campaign in Philadelphia.

Although the economy is Mr. Biden’s focus during his tour, Democrats are also trying to keep the issue of abortion front and center, seeking to tie Mr. Trump directly to bans on the procedure in many states, most recently in Arizona .

Ahead of Mr. Trump’s visit to Pennsylvania over the weekend, the Democratic National Committee unveiled billboards in the eastern part of the state.

“Because of Trump, over 20 states have extreme abortion bans,” the billboards said in English and Spanish. “If he gets his way, Pennsylvania could be next.”

Abortion is legal in the state until 24 weeks of pregnancy with exceptions after that and, with a Democratic governor in office, restrictions seem highly unlikely. Democrats have argued that Mr. Trump would sign a federal ban on abortion if he were re-elected. Mr. Trump said last week that he would not, reversing a position he held during his term in the White House.

Our Coverage of the 2024 Election

Presidential Race

Donald Trump has put forth a law-and-order candidacy while also criticizing the legal system when it comes to himself and making exceptions for his supporters. Here’s  a look at his complicated relationship  with law enforcement.

Kamala Harris, campaigning in Wisconsin, took sharp swipes at Trump for his actions on abortion , a hot topic across the country . But she stayed silent on the war in Gaza, another issue erupting elsewhere among the critical bloc of young voters she has been courting.

President Biden announced $7 billion in grants for solar power projects and tried to draw a contrast with Republicans  who want to roll back his policies on climate change.

Other Key Races

David McCormick, the G.O.P. senate candidate, has often spoken about his modest upbringing on a farm in Pennsylvania . A close look at his past tells a different story.

Summer Lee’s race in Pennsylvania once seemed primed to become a major test of Democratic attitudes about the Middle East . But in much of the district, an expected ideological battle has not arrived.

A high-energy crowd rallied in Pittsburgh to support Representative Summer Lee, a left-leaning congresswoman whose primary is a high-profile test  of whether she can stave off a challenge aimed in part at her stance over the war in Gaza.

After Hamas’s Oct. 7 attack on Israel, pro-Israel political groups put the Democratic Party’s most outspoken critics on notice. The groups have raised millions to challenge candidates they see as not sufficiently pro-Israel, but have spent little  as public opinion shifts.

Kanye and Ty Dolla released “Vultures 1” on Feb. 10 via YZY, which debuted atop the Billboard 200, launching its lead single, “Carnival” to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song competed with fresh singles from Beyoncé, and remains at No. 20 on the chart.

There have been more than a few broken promises when it comes to “Vultures” (including the pair’s disappointing Rolling Loud set ). Kanye and Ty Dolla supported the album with various “listening sessions” that were supposed to hit arenas (in Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, Pittsburgh, Nashville, Charlotte and Washington, D.C), but those shows were scrapped within a day or two of first being announced.

Kanye has also spoken about possibly releasing the second part of the record solely as a paid download, or through a new and exclusive streaming site, rather than a conventional rollout to DSPs, but only time will tell what “Vultures 2” will actually bring.
