What makes our dolphin tour different from the competition?

• Our boats have the higher horsepower engines which produce a wake (waves behind the boat). Dolphins just love to jump in our wake. (if dolphins are mating or feeding we will not attempt to get them to jump)
• We allow you to bring your own food and drinks on board. For those of you who don’t want to bring your own, we have drinks and snacks for sale at our dock house. 
• We never take a boat to capacity unless a private group has consented for us to do so. When you book a tour, we want you to be comfortable and not packed in like sardines! 
• We do not force you to stand for the duration of the tour. Everyone gets a seat, and you are welcome to walk around once the all clear has been given. There is plenty of shade on each boat as well as uncovered areas for those who like the sun.

Daytime Dolphin Tours

•  Tours are historically narrated with each first mate and captain adding their own stories here and there and maybe even a corny joke or two. We invite you to come join us! Each tour is its own unique adventure sure to create memories of a lifetime! Tours last 1 to 1.5 hours.

Sunset Dolphin Tours

• Our Sunset Dolphin Tours combine the thrills of our regular dolphin tours with the magnificent beauty of the sunset. Wow moments await! Tours last 1 to 1.5 hours.

• If you are want a private tour just for your group, give us a call and we will be happy to discuss our rates and availabilities. 

Group Tours

• We offer reduced rates for groups of 10 or more. Our boats are able to accommodate groups of up to 137. Our largest boat, appropriately named Monster, can comfortably accommodate up to 62 passengers, so we are able to take a bus full on just one boat!

Daytime Tours:

• Adults $27.95 plus tax (ages 13+)
• Children ages 12 and under $17.95 plus tax
• Children ages 2 and under are $5.00 plus tax

Sunset Dolphin Tours:

• Adults $37.95 plus tax (ages 13+)

Handicap Accessibility

"restrooms on board every boat", pet friendly, dolphin guarantee.

A few of our boats are handicap accessible, but please call before booking to let us know you have a disability which requires the handicap accessible boat. We will be happy to check availability and will add a note to your booking that you will need assistance.

If you or a member of your party is handicapped, we do have parking close to our dock. Our handicap parking entrance is directly across the highway from the Welcome to Tybee Island sign. The driveway is marked as private property, but it is ok to park there if you are handicapped and if you are booked on our tour.

We are pet friendly as long as the pet is people friendly. If your dog is a “barker” please be considerate of your fellow passengers and do not bring the dog on board. Also, we ask that your pet be up to date on all his or her vaccinations. And our pet friendly policy is for dogs only, and it certainly does not include pet reptiles. Yes, we had an albino python once, so we feel forced to amend our pet policy. 🙂

One of our captains is fond of saying “This is the real world not Sea World!” We would love to say that we find dolphin on every tour, but dolphin are wild animals, and every now and then we get… well, we get “skunked”. If you don’t find dolphin on a tour, you are welcome to go again for free. And, we go one step better! If you are on a tour and the captain feels that the dolphin sightings aren’t up to par with our usual dolphin experience, we will also honor our dolphin guarantee. We understand that people may be going back home after their Tybee Island vacation, but rest assured, our dolphin guarantee has no expiration date! We flag the trips that do not find dolphin so that there is no hassle when you take us up on your guarantee.

We had a beautiful cruise Sunday evening. Dr. J brought us right to the dolphins and while they didn't come too close, we were able to see them for quite a while. The dad jokes were great! I'm so glad we booked this excursion during our vacation!!

Great crew. Friendly and knowledgeable. Beautiful sunny day. Played good music! Even had some good (bad) dad jokes. lol We didn't see many dolphins but finally caught a few as we were going to head back in. That was very cool. Enjoyed the boat ride and information shared. Wasn't packed at the 11:30am tour on Saturday so that was nice. Would definitely come again. Needed better signage for handicap parking. Follow the sign for bus/RV parking which takes you across the street near the pink flamingo.

We had a lovely evening cruise. We had the benefit of off season so there was no crowding on board. The commentary was excellent, even the jokes she apologized for were pretty funny! Would definitely ride with them again next time we're in Tybee.

We had a great cruise with Captain Matt and Dr J. Got to see plenty of dolphins and hear more dad jokes that should be legal. They really do a great job. One of the highlights of our trip.

I brought my youth group on a mission trip to Savannah. After the long week where the kids worked really hard, I decided we needed to do something fun. So I booked a Sunset Tour with Captain Derek's. This was BY FAR the best dolphin tour I've been on! The staff was more than friendly. The price was fantastic. The boat captains were full of puns and bad jokes. It was amazing. The dolphins were out in droves. I would HIGHLY recommend Captain Derek's to anyone wanting to do a dolphin tour.

This was an amazing experience. We went for the sunset cruise and I would highly recommend it! We found dolphins in the first five minutes and found multiple pods of dolphins. (They also guarantee seeing dolphins or you get to go again for free) The captains were the perfect mix of facts, friendliness, and dad jokes mixed in with some nice music. We had a beautiful day and great weather. If you only do one thing in Savannah I would choose this!

Best dolphin tour ever! We've been visiting Tybee for years and love to go out on a boat each time. This is a first with Captain Derek's Adventure, and we were beyond impressed!! The crew, Matt and Kim, were awesome... Matt drove the boat like a pro, and Kim shared interesting facts about the dolphins. They both had fun attitudes and made our hour trip full of adventure! It's very easy to purchase tickets online. We went to the 4pm ride to save some $ honestly. Everything was seamless. The boat creates waves that the dolphins love to jump in. I've never seen so many dolphins, and this was the first time I've seen them jump from the water in a natural habitat! I got off the boat saying that was the best experience I've had on a vacation, period. Loved it!

The ride was about 90-minutes. Multiple dolphins were seen. Our 12-year-old was thrilled. The boat trip was pleasant and the boat was not crowded. You should go to the bathroom before arriving on-site. The bathrooms are porta-potties and I find them to be disgusting. Looking for a fun dolphin ride, give them a try.

We just came home from Savannah and went on Captain Derek's Dolphin tour. The boat was at capacity and everyone on it had a place along the rail, they made sure that both sides of the boat had a view of everything by turning the boat. There was also enough empty space that I was able to run back and forth and see things on both sides - this was before I realized that it wasn't necessary. I'm not sure if the dolphins are more playful during the day, on our tour they were mostly coming up for air while feeding, we didn't see any full breech but we saw many dolphins. Additionally, it was short enough that we didn't get board just staring at endless, empty ocean like the numerous whale cruises we've tried.

My wife and I decided to take a last-minute Dolphin Tour. We didn't know what to expect, but I'm happy to inform you that everything was terrific. We saw a lot of Dolphins and got a bit of history on the lighthouses. Here are some tips to make your boat ride a bit better: 1.- There are minimum installations. (Porta Potty Bathrooms) So go before you come. 2.- They board the boats in the order you checked in. So the earlier you get there, the better. We got there 30 Min before boarding and had #2. We choose the best seats on the boat! 3.- It can get hot, so bring water and sunscreen or a hat. 4.- When you get there, two companies offer similar services with similar names. Make sure you have the correct one when you pull in. 5.- Have a blast!

The Problem: When turtle hatchlings come out of the nest their instincts direct them move to light which, until modern lighting was developed, was the moon and stars reflecting off the ocean. Today, the direct light from houses near the beach and “sky glow” from coastal cities can confuse the hatchlings and cause them to move inland where their chance of survival is almost nonexistent.

What We Can Do: Visitors to Tybee Island are asked to turn off beachfront outdoor lighting and to either dim inside lighting or close window coverings at 9:00 PM from May 1 through October 31.

You'll meet Captain Solomon at The Crab Shack restaurant on Tybee Island. There will be a quick safety brief before setting sail from the dock. You'll wind through the marshlands, creeks and rivers in search of the local resident dolphins.

The dolphins in the area are used to people coming out to pay them a visit so they usually stay in the area long enough to watch them dive, splash and play. Depending on the time of year, you may even see a few babies swimming with the pod.

The Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphin is the most common dolphin around the area. Did you know that when they sleep, they shut down one half of their brain so they can stay alive?! One side does the breathing while the other half makes sure everything is still working. Fascinating!

You are welcome to bring dinner and beverages with you on the trip. Don't forget your camera! You'll catch one of the most beautiful sunsets you've ever seen.

One Of The Cheapest Beach Getaways In The US Is An East Coast Island That Feels Luxurious

If you're planning an island vacation, you might be inclined to look towards a destination like the Caribbean. However, you might not know that you can enjoy a similarly awe-inspiring place in Georgia. Sure, you could catch a  nonstop flight from Atlanta to the Caribbean . But why not skip the hassle of international travel and head to Tybee Island, one of the best beach vacation destinations in the U.S .? You'll find this gem less than 30 minutes from Savannah.

With unspoiled Atlantic beaches, like Mid Beach and North Beach, the U.S. island feels exotic and looks expensive. Budget-friendly attractions on Tybee Island

A visit to Tybee Island must include a bike ride for some fun in the sun.  TIMS Bikes, Beach & Disc Golf  has rentals available for under $20 a day. Tybee Island is uber-bike friendly and has various trails waiting to be explored. You can roam around the city or head to Back River Beach for a scenic ride.

Tybee Island dates back to the 16th century and is home to historic sites, including the Tybee Island Light Station and Museum  (pictured). Built in the 1700s, visitors can tour the structure (the oldest of its kind in Georgia). Admission ranges from $10 to $12. Note that this also grants you access to the Tybee Island Museum at nearby Fort Screven, a battery garland from the late 1800s. Visitors can learn about Tybee Island's history. The Tybee Island Light Station & Museum opens Wednesday through Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and offers free 2-hour parking.

Consider checking out the Tybee Island Marine Science Center , another affordable attraction that offers educational, kid-friendly experiences. Admission costs $12, but children four and younger can enter for free. In addition, it provides guided beach walks of North Beach for $20 (the price includes admission to the center). You can make a reservation online . The Tybee Island Marine Science Center opens Wednesday through Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
