In 2018, DeGeneres returned to her stand-up comedy roots after a 15-year hiatus with a critically acclaimed Netflix comedy special, “Relatable,” which secured her a 2020 Grammy Award nomination.

DeGeneres’ production company, A Very Good Production (AVGP), has produced a wide range of television including several unscripted series on NBC such as fan-favorite game show, “Ellen’s Game of Games,” and holiday special, “Ellen’s Greatest Night of Giveaways” – both hosted by DeGeneres – and the hit series “Little Big Shots.” AVGP also produced the Daytime Emmy Award-winning “Green Eggs and Ham” for Netflix, “Wildlife Warriors” for Discovery Channel, and many more. An accomplished best-selling author, DeGeneres released her first home design book, “HOME,” in Fall 2015. Additionally, DeGeneres has had three best-selling books: “Seriously…I’m Kidding,” which includes a compilation of comedic observations, quotes, and stories from her life, “The Funny Thing Is…,” and “My Point…And I Do Have One.” “The Funny Thing Is…” and “Seriously…I’m Kidding” both secured DeGeneres a Grammy Award nomination in 2004 and 2012.

DeGeneres launched Kind Science in 2021, a direct-to-consumer, high-performance skincare line that provides age-positive results, available at KindScience.com.

DeGeneres’ career began as an emcee at a local comedy club in her hometown of New Orleans. Her acting career in television includes several successful sitcoms before being offered a part in “These Friends of Mine” by ABC, later renamed “Ellen” following the first season. In 1997, DeGeneres was the recipient of the coveted Peabody Award and earned a Primetime Emmy Award for writing the critically acclaimed “Puppy Episode” where her character came out as a gay woman to a record 46 million viewers.

Here’s How You Can Get Tickets To Ellen DeGeneres' Upcoming Stand-Up Tour

ellen degeneres comedy tour

Talkshow host and comedian extraordinaire Ellen DeGeneres is going back on the road. According to People , the entertainer will be headlining a handful of show dates beginning in August, closing out a 15-year hiatus from the mic, so fans may want to act fast when buying seats. You'll want to know how you can get tickets to Ellen's stand-up tour if you're one of the many Ellen Show enthusiasts looking to catch the comedy legend in action.

Nearly a month after announcing that the comedy legend would be filming her own Netflix special soon, the official Ellen Show Instagram account shared the details for her upcoming tour . According to the Thursday, June 14 Instagram post, Ellen will be performing just eight shows in three cities along the West Coast — three shows in San Francisco, three in San Diego, and two in Seattle — from August 10 through August 23. So as one can imagine, getting your hands on tickets may not be exactly be the easiest.

Seeing as Ellen will only be performing a limited amount of shows, folks managing the tour are being really proactive when it comes to the expectedly overwhelming demand for tickets from fans. In the June 14 post, The Ellen Show account shared a link to a Verified Fan site on Ticketmaster for those interested to follow. While registering for the ticket presale, because yes, you must register, fans have to select one date out of the eight listed shows to attend.

View on Instagram

Once you filled in all of your details, including a working phone number for Verified Fan to reach you when it's time to purchase, the site declares that "if selected," you can expect to hear from them by Monday, June 18 with a special code for you to use when you grab your, no more than four, tickets for the night. And just an FYI, it's noted on the site that ticket registration will close Sunday, June 17 at 10 p.m., so you may want to save the procrastination for something other than this — like, homework or grocery shopping.

Why the need for such extreme action, you ask? Well, Verified Fan also wants to make sure that they keep tickets out of the hands of scalpers and bots, that way only true Ellen fans will be in attendance. After all, with this being the comedian's first tour in 15 years, people are pretty excited to catch her live and in the flesh. And of course, fans have already been sharing their plans to attend all over the web.

Along with her fans, however, Ellen has also been pretty stoked about hitting the road again. In May, the comedian took to her talkshow stage to chat about the occasion, saying, "It has been 15 years since I did a stand-up special. Fifteen years. And I’m writing it now, I can’t wait." And about a month prior to that, on March 30, Ellen's partner Portia de Rossi posted a photo of the entertainer working on her material while on vacation in French Polynesia.

"Working on her Netflix special in the most peaceful place in the world," de Rossi captioned the Instagram post. And speaking of Ellen's highly anticipated Netflix special , the two Seattle dates of the eight announced will be reserved for its taping, according to Deadline.

When speaking of the special, Ellen announced on her talkshow, "I’m excited to do it. I’m excited for you to see it. And now, each one of you, you get to Netflix & chill with me. How about that?" And who wouldn't want a chance to be apart of something that will live on the popular streaming platform for years to come?

Ellen DeGeneres Teases Stand-Up Comedy Return with Surprise L.A. Set: 'You’ll See It Soon Enough'

The comedian performed alongside Beth Stelling, Adam Sandler, Sarah Silverman and more at the Largo on Feb. 15

Ellen DeGeneres has returned to her stand-up roots!

On Thursday, the former The Ellen DeGeneres Show host — who got her start in stand-up comedy — took the stage at the Largo in Los Angeles to perform a surprise set in Beth Stelling’s "Beth & Pals" show.

DeGeneres, 66, joined Stelling’s already star-studded lineup of comedians, who included Adam Sandler , Sarah Silverman , Aidy Bryant , Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein , Alana Johnston and Nthenya From Kenya.

DeGeneres was already buzzing with excitement when she arrived at the L.A. venue with wife Portia de Rossi , a video she shared on Instagram shows.

In the clip, the couple hops out of a car and DeGeneres throws her hands up and yells, “Here we are!”

The comedian then headed backstage, where she mingled with some of the other comedians before Stelling introduced her, telling the unsuspecting audience to “please make it loud for Ellen DeGeneres!"

And the crowd obliged. Taking the stage in a classic Ellen look — a moto jacket, jeans and sneakers — DeGeneres walked out to a huge round of applause, with some audience members even leaping from their seats.

Clips shared by DeGeneres and The Ellen DeGeneres Show on social media cut off just before her actual set began, but fans will see it "soon enough," DeGeneres teased.

“Ellen got to do something she's wanted to get back to for a long time. Thanks to Largo and Beth Stelling for letting her go up,” the YouTube video description reads. “She can’t show you any of it now, but you’ll see it soon enough.”

And while DeGeneres did not confirm whether her surprise performance was the start of a full-on stand-up comeback, the Largo did hint that fans of the comedian can expect new material soon.

“Ellen DeGeneres just made a return to the stage, which means the world is in store for new work from this all-time great,” the venue wrote in an Instagram post .

Ellen DeGeneres: Relatable - Production Stills - 001

Ellen DeGeneres debuted her first stand-up special in 15 years to Netflix on Tuesday (Dec. 18), and it’s packed with jokes on imaginary drugs, always-favorite club songs and sliced bread.

Relatable  gives DeGeneres 67 minutes of screen time to show the audience that while she may have attained celebrity status, she’s still a person who has pushed through many of life’s large and small challenges.

Here are some of the best jokes in the special.

Ellen’s Breakfast-Making Butler

DeGeneres dives into what makes her relatable from the start by sharing the story of how she told her friend she would star in a new standup special. When he asked if she thought she was still relatable, she said yes. “Anyway, just then, Batu, my butler, stepped into the library, and he announced that my breakfast was ready,” she recalled. But after Batu forgot to put DeGeneres’ towel near the bath he had drawn for her (which overlooked the rose garden, of course) she had to scoot the bath mat across the floor to get to it. That’s when she realized, “Oh my God. This is relatable.”

The Gay Drug

While DeGeneres explored some of the struggles she went through due to her coming out, she also managed to make light of her experience, even asking why her sexual orientation wasn’t advertised like a drug. “Hi, I’m Ellen DeGeneres and I’d like to talk to you about gay. Do you find yourself in love with, attracted to or just curious about the same sex? Maybe it’s time you try gay.” The side effects? Losing friends and family and unemployment.

Passing Bad Drivers

DeGeneres made a handful of jokes about driving (including that she shouldn’t have a horn because it confuses people who know her as the nice person) and topped it all off by musing about how awkward it is to speed by a slow car only to be stopped at a red light and have them creep up next to you. “Please change, please change,” she chanted, as she demonstrated what it’s like to pretend to be distracted by some random thing in the car.

Emotional Support Animals

Ellen DeGeneres Teams Up With Spotify For Curated Hub Featuring Her Favorite Artists

DeGeneres also joked about the requirements of getting an emotional support animal, mentioning that she saw a woman try to get on a plane with a peacock. “They didn’t let her on, thank God… not that she doesn’t need it. Clearly she’s crazy.” She continued by considering how people end up with emotional support animals in the first place. “It’s the same doctor the prescribes medical marijuana, I’m pretty sure,” she joked. “I’m going to prescribe you pot and a pet.”

Favorite Club Song

“We all have our song,” opened DeGeneres, then showing off her dance skills to Juvenile ’s “Back That Ass Up.” “But if that’s your song when you’re 30, it’s still your song when you’re 85,” she continued, hunching over and dancing to the hip-hop tune as the older version of herself.

The Guy Who First Sliced Bread

After DeGeneres poked fun at all the world’s nonsensical sayings (including “best thing since sliced bread”), she marveled at how long it took for people to actually slice bread in the course of history. “Jesus broke bread. He didn’t even know how to slice it,” she teased, adding that soldiers probably just “took a stab at it.” “Then finally in 1928, some gay guy — you know he was gay for sure [said], ‘I refuse to be a barbarian anymore. I’m slicing it,'” she teased.

Looking Into Signs

DeGeneres closed out her comedy special by joking about people who look into signs too much. “They will be like, ‘Uh, I don’t know if I should be in this relationship. There’s a squirrel, squirrels live in trees, trees have leaves, I should leave him!’” But then the comedian shared a personal story: a dream she had about a bird, which ultimately encouraged her to come out. She brought her routine around full-circle. “Whether your bathmat scoot is 50 scoots to get to the towel or three scoots to get to the towel… we are all the same, and we are all relatable.”

The Ultimate Guide to Getting Tickets to The Ellen DeGeneres Show

Getting tickets to see a live taping of The Ellen DeGeneres Show is a dream for many fans. As one of the most popular daytime talk shows on air, the experience of being in Ellen‘s studio audience is an exciting opportunity. But with limited space and huge demand, scoring seats can be a challenge. This comprehensive guide will walk you through all the ways to get tickets to The Ellen DeGeneres Show and share tips to make the most of your visit.

Requesting Tickets Directly

The best way to get tickets is to request them directly through the show‘s website, ellentv.com. You‘ll need to create an account and provide some basic personal information. Then you can select date ranges you‘re available to attend and submit your request. Shows typically tape 2-3 months in advance, so request as early as you can.

New dates and tickets are released on a rolling basis, so check back regularly. Set a calendar reminder to re-submit your request each month.

Increase your chances by selecting many potential dates, including weekdays if possible. Fridays and Mondays tend to be the most popular.

If selected, you‘ll be notified by email 2-4 weeks before the show date you were assigned. Confirm right away before tickets are released back into the pool.

Tickets are transferrable, so you can give yours to a friend or family member if needed.

Don‘t get discouraged if you aren‘t picked right away. Persistence pays off!

Entering Contests and Giveaways

In addition to the online request system, The Ellen DeGeneres Show frequently offers tickets through contests and giveaways, both on EllenTV.com and on Ellen‘s social media pages.

Follow @TheEllenShow on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok, and turn on notifications so you don‘t miss any ticket offers.

Contests are often tied to holidays, seasons, or for special episodes, so pay attention to any themes or hashtags.

You‘ll likely need to share a photo, video, or short essay about why you want tickets or how you embody Ellen‘s spirit of kindness. Be creative and genuine in your entry.

Ask friends and family to like and share your contest posts on social media to help them gain more visibility.

Purchasing Resale Tickets

If you don‘t luck out with direct tickets, some resellers like VividSeats offer limited resale tickets to The Ellen Show. Availability and pricing fluctuates, but expect to pay $200 or more per ticket. Make sure to use a trusted source.

Attending a Taping to Get on the Waitlist

Diehard fans suggest showing up to a studio taping, even without tickets. Staff maintain a waitlist and will sometimes seat standby guests if space allows.

Arrive as early as possible, as latecomers are less likely to get a spot.

Increase your chances by coming prepared with a fun sign, props, or a bold outfit that might catch producers‘ eyes.

Be polite but assertive in speaking with staff. Don‘t be afraid to share your enthusiasm and request to be waitlisted.

Stay positive and don‘t get discouraged if you aren‘t admitted. Add your name to the list each time and eventually it may pay off.

Calling the Studio

This is more of a long shot, but some viewers report success calling the studio audience department directly at (323) 634-5350 to request tickets or get on the waitlist. Calling is best for last minute openings. Be extra nice to increase your chances of getting help!

Booking Through a TV Audience Company

Reputable ticket agencies like 1Iota and Audience Associates offer free tickets to various TV shows, including Ellen, that they reserve for their audience members. You‘ll need to create a profile and request seats through their site.

Joining Fan Sites and Forums

Ellen has an incredibly loyal fanbase. Connecting with other fans on forums like Ellentube and Facebook groups can help uncover ticket tips and opportunities. Follow fan accounts on social media too. They‘re the first to find and share special offers.

Booking the VIP Experience

For a big splurge, Ellen‘s official website offers VIP packages starting at $370 per person. This grants you premium reserved seats, plus exclusive meet-and-greets, signed merchandise, a behind-the-scenes tour, and photo ops. Quantities are extremely limited so book well in advance if you can swing it.

What to Expect if You Score Tickets

If you are one of the lucky audience members to get into a taping, here are some key things to know:

Arrival Time: Get there 1-2 hours early, as it takes time to park, get through security screening, and be seated. The earlier you arrive, the better chance of getting a front row seat!

Check-In: Have your printed ticket and ID ready. You‘ll be checked against the guest list and given a numbered ticket for seating. Leave bags and jackets with security.

Dress Code: Avoid busy patterns, logos, or bright white, which can visually interfere on camera. Solid bright colors work best. Dress is casual but still look neat and trendy.

Start Time: Taping typically begins between 9-10 AM. There is often a DJ dance party beforehand to get the audience pumped up.

Length: The show tapes for around 3-4 hours to capture multiple segments. There are long gaps for set changes and breaks.

Format: Ellen mingles with the audience between taping segments. You may get to ask her questions! Contests, giveaways, and fun surprises also take place.

Air Date: Shows usually air 1-2 months after taping concludes. No phones or recording is allowed so the show remains a surprise.

Age Limit: Audience members must be age 10 or older. Those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Bring your energy and smiles – you could be on camera at any moment! This once-in-a-lifetime experience at The Ellen Show is sure to be a memorable one.

Monét X Change dishes on her revealing new live show, Ellen DeGeneres & why opera is so gay

Soak it up while you can because, before you know it, Monét X Change is on to the next gig!

The Drag Race All-Star winner and fan favorite is more booked and busy than ever, and she’s showing no signs of slowing down.

Just this week, she dropped the steamy video from “Body,” the first single off her highly anticipated two-part R&B album. We knew she had the performance chops thanks to her legendary runs on Drag Race , but baby this is an artist , proving the music is more than just a hobby.

And, speaking of performing, Monét is about to take this show on the road with her acclaimed Life Be Lifin’ tour , bringing together her gifts for comedy, storytelling, and—yes—even opera (we won’t give away too much, but the show’s climactic operatic medley has to be seen to be believed.) After a smash-hit run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last summer, she’s bringing the BenDeLaCreme-directed production to ten cities across the country beginning at the end of this month.

Oh, and somehow she found time to pop by Madonna ‘s Celebration Tour? As the “Vogue” guest at the April 4 stop in Tampa, FL, Monét’s appearance even had her sister and show emcee Bob The Drag Queen gagged.

All of that on top of regular episodes of the Queerties Award-winning podcast Sibling Rivalry ? We don’t know how she does it!

We’re just grateful the iconic queen made some time to stop by for the latest round of our rapid-fire Q&A series, Dishin’ It . In our conversation, Monét shares how opera helped her find her voice (literally and figuratively), the grade-school crush that changed her life forever, the R&B divas who inspired her new music, and why she’ll always have a soft spot for Ellen Degeneres .

Is there a piece of media—whether a movie, TV series, book, album, theater, video game, etc…—that you consider a big part of your own coming-out journey, or that has played an important role in your understanding of queerness? Why does it stand out to you?

For me it was Ellen Degeneres, The Beginning special. I remember it was on HBO, and I didn’t quite know who Ellen DeGeneres was—I wasn’t even really into stand-up. I mean, I had seen Chris Rock and Martin Lawrence’s specials, but I was maybe too young to really care. So, when I got consciousness of Ellen later on, when I understood more about comedy, I watched that special and it was just so eye-opening to me.

For one, she’s just a brilliant comic, right? Ellen was and is super funny, and I thought that special was just really, dope. But then, later on, when I’d been coming more into my “queer consciousness,” I realized what an icon she was. Because, before that special, she had come out on her show, and she had lost so much—she lost lots of gigs and pretty much lost her career for a really long time. Risking it all for coming out is so crazy.

And, yes, Ellen has some problematic things at work, et cetera. But I think that sometimes we lose sight of the reason why Ellen was elevated to that point was because she was someone who was not afraid to lose everything for coming out, for being honest and true to herself.

Opera plays a big role in your show Life Be Lifin’ and by now we all know you have the vocal chops, but what would you say opera means to you, especially in relation to your development and empowerment as a queer person?

Through the narrative of the show, the audience gets a bit more perspective into how opera factored into me finding my voice, both literally and figuratively. But, when I was a young little gay boy in high school—I went to a professional performing arts school, and that’s when I really got I started doing classical music where we wold do lots of spirituals and anthems and Schubert and all that. consciousness. Then I went to college for music education and opera performance and that’s when I like really got into the nitty-gritty of classical music and just how f*cking gay it was.

In all these operas, there’s a lot of gender-bending, and I think that the general public doesn’t realize it’s pretty f*ggy. There’s so much crossing and blurring the lines of gender between different roles. And that’s around when I found out about Drag Race , too, because season 2 and 3 were airing then, and that piqued my interest.

Long story short, years later, when I set out to do my first stand-up special Fists Of Glory , I wanted to find an interesting way to put these parts of identity into my stand-up. So I sing this opera about fisting—now, fisting is not a service that I offer in any direction—but I thought it was interesting to sing this classical aria about it. So I feel like I’ve found this way to bring different facets of Monét X Change into all the different ways that I do art.

You first took Life Be Lifin’ to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland, so I’m wondering what those audiences were like and how they might’ve helped you fine-tune the show?

When I went to the Fringe Festival, I had only done the show one time before in LA, so obviously I was still working the material a lot. And doing the show every night for 15 nights, it grew so much so quickly. And I think that the biggest lesson I learned is just not being afraid to let a show evolve. I had written the script and rehearsed the thing, and sometimes you get caught in the weeds. But it was helpful to be malleable, letting it grow and change with me.

Like, there were so many jokes I had written that were specific to American audiences, but they didn’t know who the Bloods and the Crips were in the U.K.—I don’t even think they know Jonathan Taylor Thomas. So I’d change it! And some of that comes from my years of just needing to improv while hosting a show in New York City, just letting the night be what it’s going to be—for better or for worse. It’s just about being in the moment.

More broadly speaking—beyond the Fringe—what would you say is the worst or strangest gig you’ve ever done, whether comedy or drag?

I would say the name of the company, but I don’t remember, because I don’t care about sh*tting on people. I mean, it wasn’t their fault—I think it’s just circumstances. Maybe I should have had a little more foresight about it, but I was doing stand-up for this roomful of young, queer professionals in D.C. So they’d been in these meetings and things all day—they’re f*cking over, they’re tired, and they finally get a chance to let their hair down at cocktail hour and hang with their friends. And then here I come in the conference room, and I’m on this stage with like 2,000 people at this thing, and they’re all at different tables eating and having drinks. I’m just trying to tell jokes, and literally no one was listening. The room was so loud, everyone was making so much noise, and I was like, “This is crazy! I’m literally screaming into a void and no one can hear me.” It was like, “What is my life? What have I done to have this be my career?” It ended up being fine—the people that heard me had a good time. But that gig was rough .

This show is, in part your coming-of-age story, and you talk a lot about being a young closeted gay kid, so I’m curious: Was there a particular celebrity or maybe even a fictional character you remember having a secret crush on at a younger age, one that you consider especially formative? What do you remember loving about them?

Well my big one was real, and I talk about him in the show. My first true love, first obsession was this guy in middle school named Ricardo. I was just enamored by his bad boy vibe—he had a je ne sais quoi , if you will. And at the tender age of 12, 13, seeing him was the first time I was like, “Oh my god. I like boys.” I mean, l had my suspicions that I was gay before, but Ricardo cemented it. I just remember thinking that he was so beautiful. So Ricardo was like the time I really, really discovered that in myself.

And, honestly, I’m happy because I’ve met some folk—in my now 34 years of life—who genuinely didn’t know they were gay until later, like in their 20s. So I’m glad I knew early and was able to circumvent some mistakes I would have made, or whatever. And all because of Ricardo and his beautiful, Puerto Rican and Black face. He was that gay lightbulb—my little rainbow lightbulb!

And I wanted to make sure we touched on the fact that Life Be Lifin’ was directed by your follow Drag Race sister BenDeLaCreme, a seasoned performance queen herself. What’s something you’d say you learned from DeLa in the process of working on this show with her?

I knew I had wanted to do the show, and I had seen some of DeLa’s shows—like Cosmos and Ready To Be Committed—so I wanted to pick her brain about her process was because she’s her shows are so good. If anyone gets a chance, you should go see her shows—they’re so good.

So I texted, we had lunch, and we talked through a few things. A couple of days later, I get a text from her and she was like, “Hey, I would like to be a part of this with you!” And I immediately was like, “Yes!” We didn’t know in what capacity at that point, but just having her on this process with me was great because she’s so brilliant.

So I would do a whole bunch of writing, and then email it to her, and she’d be like, “More! What do you mean here? Can you elaborate on this?” And I was like, “What do you mean more?” But then once I’d written a whole bunch of sh*t down, she’d help me condense it and find the funny parts and really figure out how to tell me stories to these people. And then she directed it, too, so she was just a really instrumental part in the creative process of the show. And I’m really, really grateful to have her on board.

Beyond the tour, you’ve also got an album coming up which we got a taste of with “Body” and the new video that just dropped. What can you share about the new music and they vibe you’re going for?

I have loved R&B music ever since I was a wee little lad. Brandy’s Never Say Never was the first album I bought with my own hard-earned allowance money from shoveling snow. I remember listening to that album and just crying to songs like “Have You Ever?,” just bawling into the pillow over something I had never even felt before.

But I’ve always loved R&B music, so I’ve take a moment over the past two and a half years, I’ve been going to the studio and writing and working really hard to finally have this fully realized R&B project that I’ve been dying to do. I listen to R&B music all the time and that’s not an exaggeration—when I’m happy, when I’m sad, when I’m groggy, when I’m at the gym. So I just wanted to make music that I love to listen to, that feels super authentic to me. From the old-school sh*t like Adina Howard to the new girlies like SZA and Summer Walker, I feel like it all really encompasses me.

I just love the genre, so I wanted to put my stamp on it in a way that I think queer people honestly will get—because this is gay R&B music, right? I’m talking about dudes that I’ve f*cked, the dudes that have led me on, the DL guys I’ve messed with, and basically all the guys who have done me wrong. That’s what this album is about!

Wait, and speaking of, you did get to meet SZA somewhat recently, right? How was that?

I did get to meet SZA, for a brief moment in time, and she was just so nice. It was crazy because I was going to [Austin City Limits Music Festival] and, at the airport, I had on these short-shorts and thigh-high socks and Crocs on and these big glasses—I probably looked crazy. But she was the sweetest, kindest person and got me VIP tickets like watch her set. All the amazing things people describe her as, she was that—in just the few minutes I got to hang with her at the Austin airport.

Who is a queer or trans artist/performer/creator that you think is doing really cool work right now? Why are they someone we should all be paying attention to?

Trace Lysette . She is such a brilliant actor. Brilliant! And we’re not super close, but Trace and I know each other, we’ve hung before. And she’s such an amazing talent. She had her movie Monica , and I’m sad it didn’t get nominated for an Oscar. My boyfriend and I watched it, and it was really, really amazing work. I just can’t wait to see how the heavens and the skies open up for her more in the future, and we get to see more of Trace’s work. When Trace gets that Oscar nomination, that Oscar win, I’m going to be right there watching my YouTube TV and cheering her on. She’s an amazing talent.
