  • richardhJ6373DS 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Definitely go, just not with this tour group... The tour itself was a great trip and our tour guide was knowledgeable about the history and the local spots. The views were out of a magazine and certainly deserves this trip out there. I'd spend at least 3-4 hours there for full photo opportunities. HOWEVER, this tour group was not forthcoming with its schedule. The entire tour group was forced to make an undisclosed and undesired 90 min detour to a mandatory jewelry shopping stop. This took away time from the entire group and was a blatant attempt at a cash grab from the tour company. This is a dishonest practice and I'd recommend my fellow wanderlust travelers definitely make a trip to visit Pamukkale but avoid this tour company. Read more Written October 24, 2023

Over all the other trips I’ve visited in Turkey this one is a win-win. The only downside for me was a bus which was late for around 20min. If not mentioning this – a perfect day with a perfect program and guide.

Megan Gibbs

Great! Rich history and culture of these places truly amazed me. Our guide mr Hakan was very smart and a great teller too! Couldn’t think of any minuses of this tour so it’s definitely a must do in Fethiye.

Fethiye Pamukkale Ephesus Tour

A unique two day tour is offered for you to enjoy the ancient cities of Ephesus and Hierapolis and the white travertines of Pamukkale.  Ephesus, the second largest city of the Roman empire was founded almost 2000 years BC by the Greek Ionians from Athens, and it has withstood time, almost intact, for your pleasure today.  St Paul wrote a letter to the Ephesians, which is mentioned in the Christian bible.  Of even more interest the third ecumenical council was conducted here, wherein the books that make up the Old Testament of the Bible, were chosen.

If that wasnt enough for history buffs, St John the Divine (he wrote the book of Revelation in a basilica just outside Ephesus) ended his days here, and the Virgin Mary was said to have spent the last days of her life in a house close to the city.  Given that the prophet Jesus was said to have commended his mothers care to his brother John, this is a highly likely possibility.

You will be able to walk in the footsteps of St Paul and St John down through Ephesus’ ancient streets to the Library of Celcius to the Baths and the vast amphitheatre that seated over 24000 people.  Even older than this, the Temple of Artemis is based outside the city perimeter, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.

Fethiye Ephesus Pamukkale Tour Itinerary

Once you have been picked up by one of the comfortable, air conditioned vehicles, you will be heading north the 270 kilometres to Ephesus in all its ancient wonder.  You will be accompanied by a professional tour guide who has trained to give you all the correct historical information about your visit.  You will be able to explore Ephesus and the House of the Virgin Mary and this is just day one!

You will then travel to your overnight accommodation in Pamukkale town, which should be overlooking the white calcium rock pools, ready for your day in Pamukkale and another, albeit different, ancient city. This time Hierapolis, an important city famed for its healing waters.

After breakfast in Pamukkale you will have the chance to climb and admire the travertines, those rock pools of calcified blue water, as you reach the top and arrive at the beautiful gardens that precede the ancient city.  Indeed the climb to the top is so breathtaking (not literally of course) that you may even forget there is a city there, until you reach the top of the travertines and realise there is even more to see.

The rock pools are formed by calcified water over the centuries.  You can swim in the deeper pools or simply cool your heels as you walk through the shallow.  A slow leisurely climb and you will reach the gardens and the  Roman bathhouse museum.  From here to the ancient Cleopatras Pool (and yes the ancient queen is alleged to have spent time here) you can take in the ambience along the way.   The pool waters are a hot 36 degrees, said to cure many ailments from kidney or liver disease to heart and skin conditions.  Cleopatra may have taken the healing waters, but today the discerning tourist can walk in the footsteps of ancient royalty.

When the wonders of Pamukkale and Hierapolis have been experienced, your coach will be ready to make the journey back over the lesser distance of 230 kilometres back to Fethiye and your hotel.

How much is Fethiye Pamukkale Ephesus Tour?

Cost of Pamukkale Ephesus 2 Days Tour from Fethiye is 125 € for adults, 100 € for children between age 7 and 12, free for children under 6 years old in 2024.

When do the tour go?

Usually two tours a week go to Ephesus and Pamukkale, you are also able to take a one day option for each destination, however you will find the incredible value for money of the two day tour may be a better option.  Also because the hotel and meal inclusions are outweighed against the petrol prices, this can become a holiday within a holiday.

When is best to go?

You choose which days you would like to take the tour.  The pick up time from the Fethiye region is as early as 06:15 and return the following day is around 19:00.  The distance between Ephesus and Pamukkale is considerably less than the distance from Fethiye, thus you will have a little free time at your hotel in Pamukkale town, to explore, or just use the hotel amenities for your leisure.

What's included in this two day tour?

Your transport and guide service is included, plus your overnight stay at a mimimum 3 star hotel in Pamukkale.  Two breakfasts, one on the morning of your pick up (this is a halfway stop around 08.00 am) and the other at your hotel in Pamukkale the following day. Two lunches and also your evening meal at the Pamukkale hotel is included at the end of day one.

Your entrance fees to the museums of Ephesus and Pamukkale are also included, plus insurance throughout the tour.

What's not included?

Any personal purchases are not included. There are gift shops in Ephesus and Pamukkale where you may wish to spend some money.

Your drinks throughout the tour are extra.

Cleopatras Pool is an optional extra with a locally payable charge.  You can view the pool without swimming if you wish, and it certainly is one of Pamukkales most photographed places.

Any photographs or DVD  taken of yourself by professional photographers.

What do i need to bring with me?

Your swimsuit and towel, together with sun cream and sun glasses.  A good

sunhat is also recommended for the walk through Ephesus and Pamukkale.

A change of clothes for the evening or your second day of the tour.

Money for surplus extras such as lunch or snacks (2 x breakfasts and 1 evening meal ARE included in your ticket price) any personal items you may wish to purchase.

Do bring your camera or mobile phone with you.  There are endless photo opportunities during the two day tour that you will not wish to miss.

Would this tour suit my family?

Very young children may not enjoy the sightseeing, but for the tourist with a love of history, religious or otherwise, the contrast of two ancient cities will amaze you, together with the natural rock formations that are practically unique to Turkey.

Anything else i should know?

This tour is not for those with mobility difficulties.  There is little shelter in the city of Ephesus and good walking shoes are essential.  In Pamukkale there is a touristic centre where restaurants, cafes, shops and WCs are available along with the well laid out gardens, where benches and tables are there for your comfort.

Can i climb the cascades at Pamukkale?

Footwear of any kind is not allowed to be worn while climbing the travertines.  This is to protect the rocks and keep them white.  One of the other known place in the world where you will find these calcified rocks is in Yellowstone Park in the USA.  The wearing of footwear causes discoloration of the travertines thus Turkey is the only place in nature where you will find this amazing wonder of nature.

From Ephesus

A wondrous ancient metropolis.

Founded by Greek colonists in the 10th century BC, Ephesus passed under Greek, Persian, Roman, Byzantine and, ultimately Ottoman rule over its 11,000 year history. At its height, Ephesus was a bustling port, one of the largest cities in Asia Minor, and home to some of the finest monuments of the ancient world. Most notably, the Temple of Artemis - one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Inhabited until the 15th century, today this UNESCO World Heritage Site presents an unparalleled snapshot of Hellenistic, Roman Imperial and early Christian cultures despite 80% of the city remaining unexcavated. Walking the ancient Roman roads, you’ll find terraced houses with mosaic floors, intricately decorated gates, a bounty of bathhouses, and several temples, including the foundations of the Temple of Artemis. The famed two-story library with its columns and sculptures, and 25,000-seat theatre put the city’s size and status into perspective.

Pre-Roman Holiday

Fethiye was founded in late antiquity as Telmessos, a major Lycian city famed for its school of diviners, who attracted the likes of King Croesus and Alexander the Great. In 1958, the city was devastated by an earthquake, and it’s since been reborn as one of Turkey’s premier holiday destinations on the Mediterranean, and is now a hub for Turkish yacht cruises, and a favoured home base for beach-goers. While it’s hard to tear your eyes away from the coast and its pretty islands, history lovers will want to head toward the cliffs behind the town. Here you’ll find ancient Lycian rock tombs carved into the cliff face. And there are more free-standing tombs scattered throughout town, including one right in front of the governor's office. The Fethiye Museum is also worth a visit for its surprisingly extensive collection of artefacts dating back to Antiquity.
