5 best travel hair dryers for your 2024 trip away, tested by the GHI
The most lightweight and compact dryers to take on your travels, tested by our experts
We know space can be limited when it comes to suitcase allowances, but thanks to their handy compact size and lightweight design, a travel hair dryer can easily slot in alongside your other beauty essentials . Though small, travel hair dryers can still pack a punch, with some having the same power as a standard model.
Alongside other staple travel tech such as power banks , a portable charger and speakers , here are the best for slipping into your carry on, according to our testers:
Best travel hair dryer
BaByliss Travel Hair Dryer
Best for curly hair
Remington on the go 2000w compact dryer.
Best for design
Ghd flight travel hair dryer.
Best compact travel hair dryer
Vo5 on the go mini hair dryer.
Best lightweight travel hair dryer
Instyler mini travel dryer, key features to look out for.
Foldable handle: This is particularly useful for larger travel dryers as it makes packing easier.
Dual voltage: You need around 220-240V to power your dryer at home, but this varies around the world, making dual voltage essential for frequent fliers. The voltage is usually printed somewhere on devices sold within the EU, so keep an eye out for ‘120/220-240V’, which means it’s dual voltage. You’ll need to switch it manually with a coin once you reach your destination.
Cool shot: If you struggle with frizziness or regularly visit hot and humid climates, look for a cool shot button. It helps set your style and seal cuticles, keeping moisture and humidity at bay and leaving hair shinier.
Wattage vs weight: Wattage refers to the power of your dryer and usually the higher it is, the heavier the hair dryer is. If you’ll mainly be using it to style, opt for a more lightweight model. And consider how often you’ll be carrying it around (in a gym bag, on a weekend trip etc.), while also bearing hand luggage weight restrictions in mind — every gram counts in a carry-on!
Heat/speed settings: Use the lowest heat setting and a styling nozzle for styling hair. For drying, remove the styling nozzle and use the higher settings for speed. Every product listed below has two heat/speed settings.
How we test
Here are the Good Housekeeping Institute , we asked 60 testers with different hair types to review a range of travel hair dryers. They judged them on ease of use, weight, noise level and final finish.
In the lab, we measured the temperature of the airflow, casing and nozzle, as well as assessing instructions, simplicity and design.
So, whether you want a bouncy blow dry for wandering the streets of Italy , or want to tame those fresh-off-the-beach curls in Gran Canaria , add one of these tried and tested options to your case...
Score: 81/100
With the power of a full-size hair dryer in a foldable and compact body, this BaByliss model provides ultra-fast drying. It also has a wide, detachable styling nozzle, which testers liked as it made styling easier.
Plus, the casing stayed within a safe handling temperature throughout our lab test, even on the highest setting.
Key specifications
Score: 80/100
From a concentrator nozzle for ultra-smooth blow dries to a compact diffuser for beautiful waves and curls, this dryer comes with all the accessories you need to style any hair type on the go.
It even has a small key accessory to switch the voltage output with ease. This is a high performer for styling and one of the best for speed, drying hair impressively quickly on its highest setting.
Score: 79/100
This travel hairdryer ticks all the right boxes; not only is it lightweight with dual voltage and a cool shot button, it also comes with a matching dust bag for protection on the move.
It performed highly on test, scoring full marks for ease of use and overall satisfaction. The slim handle was comfortable to hold and testers liked the easy-access controls. The dryer also has ‘hair safeguard technology’— meaning it automatically switches off if held too close to the hair.
Score: 78/100
If luggage space is an issue for you, consider this Vo5 mini dryer. It measures just 22 x 14 cm, one of the smallest models on test, but its performance belies its size. It was one of our top scorers for helping to reduce frizz and testers said the cord length allowed them to reach around their head with ease.
The concentrator nozzle directed the airflow precisely and testers found the body to be sturdy and robust. It doesn’t have a foldable handle, but it’s slim enough to slip into almost any space.
Score: 70/100
Popular with testers for its sleek, stylish design and light-up filter, this was also the quietest dryer on test. The panel was impressed by how powerful the airflow was relative to its size and weight, which InStyler puts down to the same turbine technology used in its full-size dryer.
It was quick to manoeuvre around the root areas due to its slimline body and the majority of testers agreed their hair was left looking healthy and smooth after styling.

GHD Flight Review
A stylish, compact and powerful travel hairdryer.
The GHD Flight is a stylish, compact travel hairdryer that, despite some compromises, musters up a more powerful performance than you might expect.

- Easy to use
- Struggles to dry thick hair
- Cool setting could be more effective
- Travel case a bit bulky

- Review Price: £59
- Foldable design

- 1.75m cable
- Dual voltage
- Styling nozzle included
What is the GHD Flight?
For jet-setting types, the GHD Flight offers much of what you’d expect from GHD’s fully fledged models in a more compact, lightweight and travel-friendly design. In fact, the GHD Flight promises 85% of the power, while packing 60% less weight.
Understandably, features are stripped back, but the GHD FLight’s dual voltage design will allow it to work at its best on both sides of the pond, and it comes with its own travel case too.
GHD Flight – Design and features
The GHD Flight feels far more plasticky compared to its larger sibling, the GHD Air , but the upside is a main body weight of just 300g, and a manufacturer quoted 422g in total.
To keep it compact as well as lightweight for travelling, the hairdryer’s handle folds in on itself, and the unit’s head is relatively dinky too. It seems strange, then, to bundle it all in a fairly sizeable hard-shell travel case – albeit one that looks very nice indeed.
Controls are located on the inside of the handle, and comprise a single slider function to choose one of three settings: warm and low, hot and high, and a “cool” setting. There are no individual controls for choosing heat and speed separately, but we wouldn’t really expect that level of functionality in a travel hairdryer.
Underneath these controls, the GHD Flight has a switch for its variable voltage, with a choice of 240V (for the UK and Europe) and 120V (for USA, Canada and South America), allowing you to use it safely whilst abroad.
The hairdryer comes with one removable nozzle, which isn’t the most useful for precision drying, and a cable that measures 1.75 metres. That’s pretty generous for a travel hairdryer.
GHD Flight – Performance
The GHD Flight is pretty powerful for such a compact unit. GHD doesn’t quote an official wattage, but the hairdryer managed wind speeds of 15.6m/s at its highest setting –which isn’t far off the maximum speed of the Lee Stafford Coco Loco Blow & Go Nuts .
It did take quite a while to dry our test cloth, however, at around three minutes. Nevertheless, this isn’t a bad result considering it’s only a minute slower than the much larger, more powerful Panasonic EH-NA65-K .
Those with thick hair may find that it takes some time to dry their hair thoroughly with the GHD Flight, however. Even on its highest setting, it still doesn’t reach the heat levels of standard sized models.
Note, too, that the GHD Flight’s coolest setting doesn’t really replace the job of a cool shot button. There’s still a bit of warmth to the air, meaning it isn’t as effective at setting styles. There’s no anti-frizz technology either, so if you’re a sufferer then you’ll need to use product to help keep it at bay.
Overall, though, the GHD Flight does a good job of quick on-the-go drying, offering some control for more in-depth styling.
Noise measures in at a relatively quiet 100dB – but considering it’s at least half the size of standard dryers we’ve tested, that’s a little on the loud side. It also sounds noisier than some larger hairdryers, since its motor has quite a high-pitched tone.
However, you’re likely to overlook these minor quibbles in a travel model, placing power and portability at the top of the list of priorities – and in this regard the GHD Flight ticks both boxes.
Why buy the GHD Flight?
If you need a compact travel hairdryer that doesn’t scrimp on power, the GHD Flight is well worth a look. At £59, it isn’t the cheapest, but it performs closer to that of standard sized models than rivals.
Inevitably for a travel model, there are some compromises, but it will dry all but the thickest of hair types relatively quickly for its size.
A very stylish travel companion indeed.

ghd Flight Travel Hairdryer review
The perfect travel companion - light, stylish and easy to use.
The ghd Flight hair dryer is a sleek, compact travel hair dryer. I hadn’t bought a travel hair dryer in 20 years and I opted for this one based on it’s weight and size as well as the brand name, as I associate ghd with professional salon products. For a small hair dryer, it is really powerful ( Dual Voltage works at 240V & 120v) and works as well as my full size hair dryer on my thick mid length hair. The handle folds up making it easy to pack away in the lovely case it came with. It comes with a UK 3 pin plug, so you will have to take an adaptor for overseas trips but I guess that will be the case for any hair dryer??
This is an attractive, compact travel hair dryer that offers good value for money. It’s a bit noisy and the lack of attachments (other than the removable precision nozzle) may mean it is not ideal for my curly haired friends who like to use a diffuser but it should fit in your luggage. There are also just 2 heat settings but for me that is enough
I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a good quality, travel hair dryer. It is stylish, light, easy to use and portable so you can take it when you travel.

GHD Flight review
A compact, lightweight hair dryer that’s ideal for traveling.
TechRadar Verdict
The GHD Flight is a lightweight hair care appliance, ideal for taking on the go. Simple to use, it may not be as powerful as GHD’s other models, but it still ensures hair is dried relatively quickly, and folds up for compact storage. However, it doesn’t have the ability to make shine like other hair dryers we’ve tested and there are cheaper travel hair dryers available.
Fast drying speeds
- Foldable design
Dual voltage
Lacks additional attachments
Filter isn’t removable

• Original review date: September 2021 • Replaced by the slightly upgraded GHD Flight+ • Launch price: $99 / £59 / AU$99 • Official price now: $119 / £99 / AU$160
Updated: February 2024. The GHD Flight has now been replaced with the GHD Flight+, which as of writing we've yet to get our hands on. It's more expensive than its predecessor; significantly so in the UK and Australia, but does now exclusively come as part of a gift set which includes a pretty chic protective travel case, so that's a benefit if you like keeping your kit in a good state. Its specs are slightly better compared to those listed in our original review; the Flight+ is now 49% lighter (vs. 50% previously) and 25% smaller than the GHD Air, but offers 78% of the power (vs. 70% previously). The rest of the review remains unchanged.
One-minute review
GHD is most well known for its hair straighteners. The company has spent the past two decades offering ceramic-plated flat irons, taking over from steam -powered straighteners as the must-have tool for hair styling.
However, more than nine years ago, GHD also dipped its toe in the world of hair dryers , and now offers three different models, the smallest and most compact of which is the GHD Flight. Designed to be packed in your suitcase, the GHD Flight is 50% lighter than the GHD Air , but offers 70% of the power, at 1400W, allowing you to dry your hair in a relatively short frame of time.
GHD Flight price and availability
Performance.
Should I buy?
The GHD Flight comes with a folding handle, which ensures the hair dryer takes up as little space in your suitcase as possible. It operates on both 120V and 240V electrical supplies, so it really can be used anywhere in the world.
It has two temperature settings, along with a slower, cool-shot option for setting styles, and the hair dryer will automatically switch off if held too close to the hair when blow-drying to prevent overheating, too. In the box you’ll find a concentrator nozzle and a carry pouch.
At $99 / £59 / AU$99, the GHD Flight is the most affordable hair dryer GHD offers, and is ideal for those on a budget. It also makes a great additional hair dryer for those who travel, easily slipping into a bag or suitcase, safe in the knowledge that it won’t send luggage over a weight limit. However, those looking for a hair dryer with a plethora of attachments to create a wide array of hair styles might be better looking elsewhere.
- List price: $99 / £59 / AU$99
The GHD Flight is the brand’s entry-level hair dryer and is priced at $99 / £59 / AU$99. It’s available from GHD or Amazon worldwide.
GHD also offers a mid-range hair dryer, the GHD Air, which will set you back $199 / £99 / AU$220, while it’s top-of-the-range model, the GHD Helios , costs $249 / £159 / AU$295.
- Two temperature settings
- Comes with one attachment
The GHD Flight is the most compact hair dryer we’ve tested to date, measuring 9.6 x 5.2 x 2.7 inches / 24.4 x 13.3 x 6.8cm (h x w x d). It’s folding handle means its dimensions come down further still to 7.9 x 4.1 x 2.7 inches / 20 x 10.5 x 6.8cm. It’s lightweight, too, coming in at just 0.9lb / 422g.
The hair dryer features a stylish matt black design, with a gold slider that lets you select one of the two temperature settings, or the cool-shot function for setting your hair after styling – a look that apes the GHD Air, although the gold band around the barrel of the Air hair dryer has been dropped in favor of a glossy black accent.
As already mentioned, the 1400W hair dryer is dual voltage, so it can be used anywhere in the world. Simply use a coin to turn to the dial to select the correct voltage (either 120V or 240V) for the country in which you’re using it. The hair dryer has a 6ft / 1.8m cable and comes with a concentrator nozzle and a soft carry pouch in the box.
The hanging loop is also a nice touch, and is usually a feature on hair dryers used in salons.
- Fast drying times
- Balanced in use
- Automatically switches off when too close to hair
Even though the GHD Flight offers less power than some of the brand's other hair dryers, it certainly isn’t sluggish when it comes to drying times. On the lowest temperature setting, it took 5 minutes and 52 seconds to take below-shoulder-length fine hair from damp to completely dry. Using the hottest settings shaved 1 minute and 51 seconds off this time. On both settings, locks were left smooth – although they lacked the shine we’ve achieved with other hair dryers, plus there were more fly-away strands than usual.
We put this down to the lack of technology that uses negative ions to speed up evaporation and reduce flyaway strands.
The GHD Flight felt balanced in the hand when blow-drying hair, and was comfortable to hold, both in the left and right hands (we switched hands, depending upon the side of the head being styled). The hair dryer was easy to fold into its more compact form, while the hinge felt durable and offered a reassuring click as the handle was moved.
Also notable is the fact that the GHD Flight will automatically switch off if held too close to the hair, to stop the hair dryer from overheating. However, we were disappointed to find that the filter isn’t removable, which can make cleaning the hair dryer more difficult.
For noise, the GHD Flight registered 77.8db on our decibel meter on its fastest setting. This puts it middle-of-the-range when it comes to noisy hair-care appliances, and is equivalent to the level of noise made by a vacuum cleaner . However, since it is likely to be on for only a few minutes at a time, it’s unlikely to bother too much.
Should I buy the GHD Flight?
Buy it if....
You want a compact hair dryer Measuring 7.9 x 4.1 x 2.7 inches / 20 x 10.5 x 6.8cm when folded, and weighing just 0.9lb / 422g, the GHD Flight is one of the most compact hair dryers we’ve tested.
You’re on a budget While it isn’t the cheapest hair dryer on the market, it’s the most affordable hair-care appliance GHD offers. As such, if you’re after a salon brand but money is tight, this hair dryer is worth considering.
You want dual voltage Many travel hair dryers, while compact, aren’t necessarily suitable for use all over the world. The GHD Flight offers variable voltage, making it ideal for those who want a hair dryer that will work abroad in various countries.
Don't buy it if...
You want a range of attachments If you’re looking to create a range of hair styles when blow-drying your locks, you’ll need a number of different attachments including concentrator nozzles and diffusers. The GHD comes with only one attachment, so is best avoided if you’re looking for greater versatility.
You want a quiet hair dryer Registering 77.8db on our decibel meter means this isn’t the quietest hair dryer we’ve tested. It isn’t the loudest either, but it’s one to avoid is noisy appliances are a frustration.
You want a removable filter This is a small point, but one that makes all the difference for keeping your hair dryer in tip-top condition. Fixed to the hair dryer, it will be difficult to remove a build-up of lint off the GHD Flight’s filter.

Updated: February 2024. The Laifen Swift remains to be a great Dyson Supersonic alternative, though it's far from the only one at this point. Still, it's a fraction of the price, and nearly as affordable as some of the most high-performing standard hair dryers in this list. Since our original review, Laifen has released a more affordable sister product, the Laifen Swift SE ($149.99 / £128.01 / AU$228.02), which is marginally less powerful and more cheaply made, but comes in some adorable pastel hues.

You can travel far and wide, but we dare you to find a hotel hair dryer that is anything more than average. As anyone who’s tried to style their hair on-the-go can attest, they’re often weak, loud and ultimately no better than letting your hair dry naturally.
The obvious solution is to lug your favourite device everywhere you go. However, hair dryers tend to be bulky and heavy, not to mention they take up vital room if your travels are limited by baggage weight restrictions.
Enter the travel dryer. Admittedly many of them are barely a step above hotel room fare, but if any brand can buck the trend it’s ghd. The go-to brand for hair tools of all shapes and sizes, its flight travel dryer packs all of its usual technical wizardry into a device that’s compact and travel-friendly.
Ghd promises that it packs 70 per cent of the power of the brand’s full-size dryer, but when we got it out of the box, we were baffled how something so small could be so mighty. Dreaming of future travels, our tester got to work using it in her regular styling routine to see how it held up.

ghd flight travel hair dryer
Attachments: One (precision drying nozzle)
Motor: 1800w
Weight: 422g
First and foremost, this hair dryer is tiny. That’s a given for travel-size products of any kind, but we were still shocked.
It’s clearly been designed with practicality in mind, utilising a folding handle and smaller than average barrel. You can be rest assured it’ll work wherever you travel as it’s dual voltage. Most notably, it’s incredibly lightweight, coming in at just 422g – perfect for hand luggage or a handbag.
From a technical perspective, some of the features are similar to ghd’s other hair dryers. Safeguard technology means it switches off if it’s held too close to hair, which helps prevent hair damage. You can also toggle between low and high speed settings.
But most importantly: how well does it dry your hair? Our tester has very long, thick hair, and if there was any difference in the length of time it took to try, it was minimal. It doesn’t feel quite as powerful as a full-size dryer – which is to be expected – but it still feels much more powerful than full-size offerings from some of ghd’s competitors.

To keep devices like this so small, they have to be stripped down to basics. In truth, sometimes we get overwhelmed by the sheer amount of options on very ambitious styling tools, so we weren’t too fussed about that. The only way it (very slightly) hindered the experience was the fact that temperature-wise you only had the options of the cool shot or the full blast of 65C, which sometimes felt too hot and harsh. However, considering we would only be using this on-the-go, it’s a minor complaint and it never left our hair feeling singed, especially when prepped with a moisturising hair oil. We also found the cord a smidge too short, but again, this is to be expected.
Those with curly hair will lament the absence of a diffuser — you only get one attachment, which is a precision drying nozzle. This was great for producing both super sleek styles and bouncy blow dries. The weight of the dryer also helps with the latter; at no point did we experience aching arms from lengthy styling.
Functionally, the ghd flight travel model is the most practical hair dryer we’ve ever used. It’s lightweight almost beyond belief, easy to slip into your bag, and makes easy work of thin and thick hair alike.
You do get less control over styling than non-travel dryers from ghd. However, this is to be expected from something that exists purely to maintain some semblance of normal life on the move.
Like all of ghd’s tools, it feels like the standard all similar products should aim to replicate. Even some full-size dryers could learn from this kind of easy, powerful styling. It goes without saying, but this is a marked step up from the hotel hair dryer.

- 8 Best Travel Hair Dryers UK 2024 | ghd®, BaByliss, and More
While we appreciate that hotels make an effort to provide a hair dryer, the reality is they’re often much weaker than the one we have at home. Unfortunately, this means our holiday locks can be left looking a little lifeless, limp, or frizzy. There's no need to settle for bad hair though, as there are some pretty neat travel hair dryers around!
In this article, we’ll cover everything you should look for when shopping for a new travel-sized dryer. Then, we'll show you our favourites from trusted brands such as ghd®, BaByliss, and Remington, all available to buy at Amazon, John Lewis, Argos, and Boots. Whether you're after a small, lightweight option with just the basic functions or a deluxe device with a diffuser and ionic capabilities, read through our reviews to find the best one for your needs!
A recommendation service that carefully researches each product and consults with experts across many disciplines. We are constantly creating new content to provide the best shopping experience from choosing ‘cosmetics’ to ‘food and drink’, ‘home appliances’ to ‘kids and baby’ products, reaching users all across the United Kingdom.
Table of Contents
How to Choose a Travel Hair Dryer in the UK - Buying Guide
Before we jump into the recommendations, it’s worth considering which features are available from travel hair dryers that differentiate them from stay-at-home ones. We'll cover factors like the power, voltage, extra accessories that may be included, and more!
Select the Right Amount of Power for Your Hair Type
We’ll start with perhaps the most important element: the power. This is measured in wattage and (as you’d expect) the higher the number of watts, the better. This is because a hair dryer will produce more heat at a quicker speed , which makes the overall process much faster.
Those with average hair thickness should look for a product that has around 1300 - 1800W , as this should effectively dry off your locks. However, if you have particularly thick or curly hair then you may need something with a bit more oomph! Likewise, those with fine or easily damaged hair will benefit from a lower power option or one that offers a few cooler settings.
Dual Voltage Is Essential For Globetrotters
The next feature all depends on where you plan to travel, as the voltage in the electricity in each country varies . Within Europe, 220V is the standard voltage, while in the United States it's 120V. So, if you’re a frequent flyer to both close and faraway lands, having a hair dryer that can cope with all kinds of voltage levels will be handy.
A dual voltage hair dryer has a switch that alternates between the two settings , so you don’t have to worry about the process being too technical. Even if the hair dryer doesn’t state that it's dual voltage on the packaging, a 120/220-240V button is a solid indicator that it's capable of performing that function.
If you don’t tend to travel across the pond and mostly spend your time in the UK and Europe, then a simple single voltage device will likely meet your needs - it all depends on your holiday habits!
Save Space With a Folding Handle
Regardless of how much luggage you have when travelling, the smaller and more compact your packing can be, the better - right? For that reason, a travel hair dryer that comes with a folding handle can be extremely convenient .
This feature will reduce how much room the dryer requires in your luggage, meaning you'll have more space for clothes, shoes, and souvenirs . Moreover, the folding handle is also useful for when you get back home, as packing it and storing it away in a cupboard will be much easier as well!
Travel Dryers Tend to Have Less Modes to Choose From Than Regular Devices
While there is some crossover between everyday hair dryers and those designed for travel, functions like infrared and noise reduction are not commonplace for the latter . That being said, most will have a decent number of modes for you to choose from.
Usually, travel dryers have a variety of heat and speed settings. Plus, some have a cold shot or cool stream function which gives you a little more control over how you style your hair. The cooling option is particularly useful for combatting frizziness, as well as setting your finished 'do.
While you may not expect a travel-sized dryer to have an ionic mode, a few of the products in our ranking do have this feature. The reaction of the negative ions to the water in your hair not only dries your locks quicker but also helps them to retain moisture , which is healthier for your hair in the long term.
Look Out for Extra Attachments and Accessories
Many brands include a variety of different attachments or accessories with your new purchase, to help you get the best out of it. Nozzles, which focus the airflow more precisely and allow you to dry a specific spot quickly , are a common attachment that practically all hair dryers have.
Diffusers are also a popular accessory, although they’re much less prevalent when shopping for a travel hair dryer than a normal one. If your chosen product does include a diffuser, you'll find that it can help to boost texture, reduce frizz, and improve curl definition - so it's definitely worth snapping up if you have unruly locks!
Lastly, how can we forget the humble brush? Some brands will throw one in for free , which will come in handy if you forget to pack your usual tangle tamer. It's always good to have a spare one lying around, just in case!

Powerful, Affordable, and Packed With Fab Features
While you might think it's impossible to find a hair dryer that has it all, this offering from Remington comes pretty darn close! In addition to multiple speed and heat settings, it has a powerful 2000W output and dual voltage capability . Plus, it's foldable and comes with a nozzle and a diffuser.
That's not all - it's also an absolute steal, being the second cheapest product in our whole lineup . It's a little heavy, but the range of great features makes up for this small flaw. It's no wonder, then, that this marvellous hair dryer has managed to claim our number 1 spot!
Wahl Travel Hair Dryer
A Compact Dryer at a Great Price
If you're looking for a travel hair dryer that comes with a diffuser and a nozzle, this Wahl option is a brilliant buy! The device itself is compact and foldable, plus it only weighs 0.2 kg so it shouldn't take up too much of your weight limit.
While this dryer does have a lower power outage, it's perfect for those with fine or easily damaged hair . We also like the loop on the handle, which you can use to hang it on the back of your hotel room door when unpacking your suitcase.
ghd® Flight Travel Hair Dryer
Make Every Day a Good Hair Day
ghd® is synonymous with perfect hair, so it's only right that we include one of their products in our list of recommendations! This elite hair dryer has an optimum airflow temperature of 65 degrees , although there are various heat settings to choose from. Furthermore, it has a 1.8m long cable so you'll always be able to reach the mirror, regardless of where it's plugged in.
Best of all, this product comes with a nozzle for precision work and a two-year guarantee , just in case you have any problems. The dryer is also dual voltage, meaning you'll be able to use it anywhere in the world to achieve dreamy locks.
InStyle Mini Travel Dryer
Quiet, Lightweight, and High Quality
This offering from InStyle is another tremendously popular option on the market at the moment. It has a brilliant amount of wattage yet is wonderfully quiet - which your partner is sure to appreciate if they're trying to have a siesta while you style your barnet. Not only that, but it's one of the lightest dryers around too!
The main turbine technology included in this travel hair dryer is the same as that of the brand's usual full-sized option, so you can expect similar quality in terms of the results. Add to that the multiple heat settings and a nifty nozzle for precise work , and you're onto a winner!
TRESemmé Travel 2000 Dryer
Expert Styling on the Go
If you're looking to create high-quality hairstyles on the go while using a product that's compact enough to fit in your luggage, you'll be hard-pressed to find anything as good as the TRESemmé Travel 2000. The high power output means that it dries hair amazingly quickly , so you'll be able to spend time actually enjoying your holiday rather than in front of the mirror!
There are also multiple heat and speed settings, as well as a cool shot function, to help you whip your locks into shape. The only downside to this design is that it's a little clunky, making it not so great for those who like to pack light .
Red Hot Travel Hair Dryer | 37070
The Best Budget Option
This portable little number from Red Hot is foldable, so it won't take up precious room in your weekend bag. It has dual voltage settings for multiple different countries and continents, plus it comes with two different heat and speeds for flexibility . Our favourite part, though? It costs just over a tenner!
If you're working on a pretty tight budget - let's face it, holidays tend to be expensive anyway - then this product will be right up your street. Although the cable isn't very long, this is a decent dryer for the super low price .
VO5 On-The-Go Mini Hair Dryer
Dual Voltage and Built to Last
VO5's "on-the-go" dryer really does what it says on the tin! It has dual voltage capability and weighs only 0.3 kg , so you don't have to worry about reaching your packing weight limit. Although it's lightweight, it's incredibly robust too. This means it won't be damaged easily, even if it gets bumped around while travelling.
The concentrator nozzle perfectly directs the airflow, helping you to style with precision. Sadly though, there's no folding handle and this device's power is a little lower than average . Of course, depending on your hair type, this could be an advantage for some shoppers.
Parlux 3500 Ionic Edition
Compact Yet Powerful
While this travel dryer from Parlux may not be foldable, it does measure in at just 17cm, meaning that it won't take up too much real estate in your suitcase . However, you shouldn't underestimate it because of its size - it manages to pack an almighty punch with an impressive 2000W of power!
Furthermore, this particular model has four fantastic heat settings - the most of any product in our ranking. The only downside is that it's not dual voltage, which is a shame considering how much it costs.

The best GHD hair dryers for a big, bouncy, salon-worthy blow dry at home
By Louise Whitbread
When it comes to hair, no one does it better like the pros at GHD. Their iconic styling tools have long been loved for their versatility, smart technology and seemingly infinite lifespans. Trust me, I speak from experience. My beloved GHD Original IV styler has been part of my haircare routine for 15 years and has never failed me. Whether I want poker- straight strands, beach waves , or tight curls , I don't know where I would be without it.
But it's not just hair straighteners (we've compared every GHD hair straightener here), curling wands and hot air brushes that GHD has perfected. It's hair dryers , too. GHD hair dryers are the speediest way to style hair and give you that salon-quality finish and big, bouncy voluminous styles that are typically only achieved by your fave hairdresser .
By Elle Turner , Sophie Cockett , Lottie Winter and Denise Primbet
Like with any GHD tool, there's not just one option. Instead, there are four different GHD hair dryers to shop on site that each cater to different hair types and budgets. If you're unsure which one you need, we've got you covered with our guide to each GHD hair dryer, what they do and why they'll be a game-changer in your routine.
Which is the best GHD hairdryer?
To put it shortly, it depends on your hair. If you want a great all-rounder, the GHD air is your best bet. Its powerful motor and air filter means you'll be able to dry your hair faster than ever, and its ionic technology will keep flyaways at bay for that smooth, sleek look we love getting at the salon. The GHD helios , however, while more expensive, is an essential addition to your tool kit if you've got the at-home blow-dry mastered. Lighter and faster-drying than the rest of GHD's hairdryers, it will give 30% more shine to hair and comes with a bespoke nozzle for a smooth finish.
By Denise Primbet , Elle Turner and Sophie Cockett
Is it worth buying a GHD hairdryer?
Absolutely. We know first-hand they'll last you years, and if you're using them regularly will pay themselves off in no time. Well made, lightweight, and full of hair-smoothing benefits, they're a must-have. Whether you want more manageable tresses, an impressive volume boost or just need a tool that will take minutes to dry a wet head of hair before you head out the door, they do it all.
Is the Dyson hairdryer better than GHD?
Since the launch of the Dyson Supersonic Hairdryer , it has changed the hair game, but costing £299, it's certainly not cheap. If you've got a bigger budget to splash out, there's a lot to love; it comes with varying magnetic styling attachments including a concentrator, diffuser, and wide-tooth comb. It has beaten to the top spot by GHD though, which - while isn't the cheapest hairdryer on the market - is the best value for money. GHD hairdryers last for years, leave hair healthier than ever and make quick work of all hair types.

GHD Helios in Ombre Chrome 20th Anniversary
GHD Hairdryer Helios in Ombre Chrome, £174, GHD
Best for: Precise styling control Cord length: 3m power cable Warranty: 2 years manufacturer's guarantee
Why we love it: This is the most recent launch from GHD to commemorate its 20th anniversary and it's as impressive as it looks. Designed in an ombre metallic hue, it's simply stunning. Developed by GHD's leading engineers, physicists, and styling professionals, it's made with a contoured nozzle and has enlisted aeroprecis technology to help you achieve the smoothest, sleekest tresses yet. Besides being lightweight enough not to make your hands and wrist ache, it also boasts a bespoke acoustic system to keep the sounds as quiet as possible, while reducing your blow-drying time, all while giving locks 30% more shine. You can even personalise it too.
Any downsides? It's the most expensive hairdryer from GHD.
GHD Helios Professional Hair Dryer in White, £159, GHD
Best for: Taming flyaways and unwanted frizz Cord length: 3m power cable Warranty: 2 years manufacturers guarantee
Why we love it: This is the lightest hairdryer that GHD has to offer, which is pretty impressive considering it's packed with features that will deliver salon-quality blowdries. It comes with a nozzle that gives you precise control over every strand, so you can style it into a voluminous do, slight curl, or poker straight. You can switch between temperatures as well as making use of the cool shot button that sets styles for a longer-lasting hold.
Any downsides? Anything white runs the risk of getting messy quicker, so make sure you keep it sparkling clean.
GHD Air, £109, GHD
Best for: Speedy drying time for all hair types Cord length: 3m power cable Warranty: 1 year manufacturer's guarantee
Why we love it: As the second cheapest hairdryer from GHD, this is hands down our favourite. For just over £100, it's the best value for money and ergonomically designed to suit right and left-handers to make blow-drying a breeze. Thanks to its high-pressure air flow, you'll be hard-pressed to find a tool that dries hair as quickly as this and the cool shot button allows you to lock your finished style in place.
Any downsides? Nope. It's the perfect affordable all-rounder.
GHD Flight Travel Hair Dryer Gift Set
GHD Flight Travel Hair Dryer Gift Set, £59, GHD
Best for: Travelling Cord length: 1.8m power cable Warranty: 2 years manufacturer's guarantee
Why we love it: This is the perfect comprimise between GHD's stellar hair-drying technology for a more affordable price, that you'll never need to leave at home. It comes with a hard carry case so you can take it with you wherever you go. After all, there's nothing worse than a naff hotel hairdryer to leave your locks looking limp and lacklustre. It's 50% lighter than the GHD Air but boasts 70% of the power, so you're in no way losing out compared to the bigger models. The precision nozzle is removable too and ther handle folds up neatly so you can have a good hair day no matter where you are.
Any downsides? As it's more compact, thicker hair types might find this could take longer to dry a full head of hair.

The best GHD hair straighteners: the tried and tested flat irons for every hair type
We've tried and tested the very best GHD hair straighteners for thick hair, thin hair, the time-poor, and for every budget

One name is utterly synonymous with hair straighteners: ghd. In fact, the best ghd hair straighteners popularized the idea of heat styling at home. Using pioneering, next-gen technology, their stylers promise easy-to-achieve salon-worthy results—minus the scary puffs of steam that suggest we're frying our locks. Given ghd is an acronym for Good Hair Day, it’s no wonder the brand now sells 2 million stylers every year.
There’s sound science behind the hype, too. All ghd straighteners heat to a consistent 185C within 15-30 seconds—which, says ghd scientist Dr. Tim Moore, is the optimal temperature to create styles that stay in place without damaging your hair. Also worth noting is that no matter which pair of ghd hair straighteners you choose, each comes with an auto shut-down feature. So if yours are inactive for 30 minutes, they automatically go into sleep mode, meaning there’s no anxiety and no danger of singeing your carpet.
In our guide, the best ghd hair straighteners for you will depend on the texture of your hair and the style you’re looking to achieve (see our in-depth guide to the best hairstyles for every hair type), be it loose waves or—of course—straight hair. To help you decide which model suits you, our contributing beauty expert has tested ghd's top models to assess how well each one performs, and shared with you things like the value for money each one offers, and any extra features they have. And if you're interested, ghd also sells some of the best hairdryers for curly hair , to complete your haircare collection.
The best ghd hair straighteners as reviewed by our contributing beauty expert
1. GHD Platinum+ Professional Styler
Specifications, reasons to buy, reasons to avoid.
Reaching for a smart phone has become second nature, so why not try smart hair straighteners? The Platinum+ took five years to develop and features ground-breaking 'smart' predictive technology that controls heat based on the thickness of your hair (e.g. fine strands don’t need as much), the section you're straightening and the speed at which you style your hair.
In other words, it predicts your hair’s needs without you needed to think about it, and changes the power accordingly for a bespoke styling experience. During testing, it worked well and we were able to style our hair quickly. We had plenty of heat to style our hair, though not too much that it felt like it was burning. Not only that, but sensors monitor the temperature of the plates 250 times a second, so you know your hair isn't at risk of being singed. Given the sleek design and impressive tech, this top-of-the-range straightener is well worth the investment if you have the cash.
2. GHD Gold Styler
While not as high-tech or speedy to use as the Platinum+, the Gold Styler is a more versatile tool in terms of the styles it allows you to create. Both stylers allow you to create ‘undone’ waves for a cool off-duty look, but the curved design of the Gold’s barrel makes it easy to create blown-out, bouncy curls, too, without the need to invest in a separate pair of tongs.
There are two sensors to ensure that heat is evenly distributed throughout the plate, which makes it easier to straighten hair with just one pass, and which also ensures minimal damage to your locks. If quick results in the morning are your thing, we'd advise opting for the first option in our round up of the best ghd hair straighteners—the Gold Styler isn't as quick, so is best for second-day touch-ups and curls when you have a bit more time instead.
3. GHD IV Original Styler
This is one of ghd’s most popular models, given the reasonable price tag and the versatile styling options, which makes it one of the best ghd hair straighteners if you're after value-for-money. It features floating ceramic plates that we found flex and glide easily through the hair without snagging. The rounded barrel means you can also easily create waves, as well as stick-straight styles, which during testing turned out really nicely.
The price, while reasonable, reflects the fact that these straighteners still use ceramic heat technology, which just isn’t as powerful as the tech offered in the Platinum+. That said, the IV Original Styler is far from basic, and the perfect model if you are dipping your toes into the heat styling waters for the first time—or if you only straighten your hair on the odd occasion.
4. GHD Max Styler
What sets the Max Styler apart from the rest of the ghd hair straighteners is the extra-wide plates, which cut styling time in half, specifically for those with thick or curly hair types that may struggle with ordinary, thinner straighteners. Measuring approximately two inches, the plates are 70 per cent wider than those on the Original. It also boasts the same dual sensors as the Gold Styler, for even heat distribution whether you’re looking to create silky-smooth locks or frizz-free waves.
Because of the size of these straighteners though, they're probably not the best option for shorter or fine hair—they simply wouldn't be worth the price.
5. GHD Mini Styler
Fact: it can be hard to style short hair with regular straighteners. Bangs are even more tricky and involve a heck of a lot of arm ache if you want to avoid singeing your eyebrows. Meet the ghd Mini, where the plates are a mere 1/2 inch wide, making them completely bob-friendly, or ideal for slicking down a pesky cow’s licks. Slim plates like these are ideal for shorter (and finer) locks, so this is a great choice if that's your hair type. Plus, they're super lightweight and less awkward to use than some more cumbersome straighteners, so you shouldn't have trouble styling your hair until it looks just right.
And if you want a great hair wash option for shorter, finer hair (or any hair, really), why not try out one of the best shampoo bars instead of your regular liquid option? Unlike liquid shampoo, shampoo bars often do a better job at not weighing fine hair down.
6. GHD Unplugged Cordless Hair Straighteners
In fairness, this is ghd’s only cordless straightener—but the newest addition to ghd’s straightener stable is worth the splurge in our opinion. Despite being handbag sized and wire free, it still has the same tech as a regular sized ghd styler, whether you’re looking to create soft waves or sleek styles on the go.
There’s also the promise of 65% more shine with these ceramic-coated plates—so you can rest assured that you'll be protecting any damaged hair . Powered by a bespoke lithium-ion battery, it can charge fully in just two hours from your car, laptop or plug socket in the gym, and offers 20 minutes of styling at that all-important sweet spot of 185 degrees. The downside is that 20 minutes may not be enough time for you to create your desired look, especially if you have fuller, thicker locks. Despite this, these are the best ghd hair straighteners for those who are constantly on the move.

I tried the new ghd Chronos hair tool that promises less frizz & breakage - but is it worth the price tag?
Meet the new "advanced" ghd styler - the chronos....
Have you seen the meme about your first ever ghd original straighteners lasting forever, and will not die? It made me laugh because my OG ghds are still going strong. THEY WILL NOT DIE. It must be hard for a brand to persuade people to buy a replacement for something that still works and "does the job", but the new ghd Chronos might finally persuade people to go out with the old and in with the new.
As I unboxed the new ghd Chronos, £289 / $329 , I will admit, I felt a little underwhelmed. It's not like a new iPhone that has the sticky label to pull off and new buttons and a new camera to swoon over, at first glance the ghd Chronos doesn't look all that different to the other ghd stylers of the past.
But I will say that as soon as I held it, I noticed the difference. This feels like it's made for your hand, if that makes sense? It's light and compact, and comfortable to hold. On closer inspection, the power button looks different (sleeker!), and the plates appear shinier.
But just like any hair tool, it's not how it looks, it's how it works.
What does the ghd Chronos promise?
The Chronos is described as an "advanced styler" and it's said to deliver HD Motion responsive TM technology , meaning that the new motion responsive technology adjusts the power to guarantee heat accuracy to identify how you use this on your hair.
This continuously adapts to your styling movements to guarantee unparalleled heat monitoring accuracy at the optimum temperature of 185°C for one stroke HD results.
Because you'll only need one stroke to get the desired look , you'll have 85% more shine thanks to the ultra gloss coated plates combined with the High Definition responsive technology.
You can also expect 2X less frizz - with the re-engineered wishbone hinge it allows easy-glide styling for high-definition curls and waves.
And a big concern for a lot of people - less hair breakage. ghd promised 3X more breakage protection - it adjusts the power to guarantee unparalleled heat accuracy to the optimum temperature of 185°C.
My review of the ghd Chronos
I'll start off by saying that I have thick wavy blonde hair that falls just below my shoulders. I have a lot of hair and doing my hair in the morning takes a while (especially blow drying, urgh!).
I usually curl my hair with my ghds and I'm now such a pro, I don't need to use a mirror. So it's important to stress that I'm confident with styling my hair as I do it so often (I'm not blessed with the kind of hair that you can just wash and go!).
It took a moment to get used to the ghd Chronos - mainly because it felt smaller than the hair tool I currently use. I assume the slightly smaller size will mean I have much more control over the tool and after a couple of minutes, I really started to whizz through my hair.
£289 AT GHD
£289 AT JOHN LEWIS
$329 AT GHD
And that's the beauty of this thing - it's fast! Really fast. As I'm typing this I have the bounciest curls and it took me half the time it usually takes. It honestly took one stroke to get the desired curl.
A bug bear I've always had about my ghds has been my hair spilling out of the sides of the styler (not sure how to describe that in a better way, sorry, but if you know you know) but this clasped my hair much better, so that's definitely an improvement.
I have tried this for straight hair (photographed) as well, and it made my hair so sleek and shiny, I couldn't believe it. Though I will say if you love sleek, chic hair I can also recommend the ghd Duet Style, £379 / $319 which was a big launch for the brand in the past. I love my Duet Style because it doubles up as a hair dryer as well. But I do wear my hair curlier more, so the Chronos is perfect for me.
My favourite thing about the ghd Chronos is how fast it was o do my hair, and that the tool itself is lightweight, making it perfect for taking away with you in your suitcase.
Let's talk about price. I do think £289 ($329) is quite a lot to spend on a hair tool but it's inline with how much a lot of high-tech hair stylers are these days, and as the meme proves, you'll no doubt be using these for years to come.
The ghd Chronos is available in black and white, priced at £289 (or $329 in the states) and it's available at ghd and John Lewis.

GHD Helios review
We've tried and tested the GHD Helios, GHD's newest hair dryer. Here's how it fared...
A super-smooth hairdryer – looks and performance-wise – that'll blow-dry your hair in a matter of minutes while leaving an impressive finish. If you can afford the price tag...
Great for frizz
2 years manufacturer's guarantee
May be heavy for some
Why you can trust Real Homes Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out more about how we test .
After using the GHD Helios for a while now, we've decided that it's the very best hair dryer you can buy. Not only does it perform well (on all hair types, too) but it's easy to use, it looks the part and it boasts several settings. It also comes with attachments and it's pretty durable. In other words, it ticks all our boxes.
What about the price? It retails at £159, but should you be after a discount it might be on sale for Black Friday . See our GHD Black Friday page for deals.
We tested the GHD Helios hair dryer on past-shoulder length, pretty thick hair, so the hairdryer had a lot to take on. Keep scrolling to read our thoughts on the GHD Helios.
GHD Helios: specifications
- Attachments: 3 (one included)
- Heat settings: 3
- Cool shot function: Yes
- Cord length: 3m UK, 9ft US
- Weight: 0.78kg
- Plug: UK three pin or US two pin
Who will the GHD Helios suit?
The GHD Helios will suit anyone with hair! Obviously if you have thick hair then it will take a little longer to dry than someone who has fairer hair, but it will cater for anyone.
GHD Helios: setup
Once you've removed the GHD Helios from the lovely box it arrived in and unwrapped it from the plastic bags (not ideal but there were only a few, and they could be used for something else) then you're golden. It was a bit tricky to put the nozzle on – push don't twist – but that, and plugging it into the mains, was the only real part of setting up.
GHD Helios: heat settings and performance
The GHD Helios offers a range of heat settings and speed settings, including a Cool Shot function. It benefits from two buttons on the back of its handle – one for heat with three options, another for speed with three options.
Performance-wise, this hair dryer offers speedy drying no matter your hair type. When used correctly, you will also benefit from zero flyaways and zero frizz, too. More on that below.
GHD Helios: ease of use
Using the GHD Helios was a dream. It has a mega powerful airflow of 120kmh, which took me by surprise the first time I tried it. My hair, which usually took a good few minutes to get dry-to-the-touch, took less than one minute with this hair dryer. And I was blown away to see that I had NO flyaways and NO frizz.
What I would say though is that on initial power up, on the top power control, I noticed that there is a split second time lag until any air comes through. After this though, the hairdryer is super quick to get up to temperature (there's two to choose from, plus a cool shot) and blow dried my hair in no time at all.
Also, since the GHD Helios comes with a concentrator nozzle, it's easier to use. You can also get a diffuser nozzle for it, too. See how to use the GHD Helios below.

GHD Helios: design
Hair dryers are very much an accessory, rather than a tool, now so when I saw a selection of colours available to choose from it instantly caught my attention. I tested the GHD Helios in the ink blue colourway, but it is also available to buy in in mint, white, black, plum and powder pink. The varying colours of the plastic shell is also covered in a smooth coating that feels almost like silicone to the touch, which gives it a wonderful, luxurious feel.
It does have a fairly well balanced design when holding, but what I would say is that it was a little heavier than what I was expecting on initial pick up. This is something you do not notice, however, when drying your hair.
The GHD Helios also has a 3m long cable which is ideal if your mirror is some distance away from your plug like mine is.
GHD Helios: verdict
In GHD's own words, 'For your most glamorous blow-dry to date...', and I would agree, if it was bought for me as a gift. Retailing at £159 for just the hairdryer, let alone any accessories you may require to buy with it, the GHD Helios certainly wouldn't be an impulse buy but is one which is to be considered an investment. It is a really brilliant example of hairdryer engineering, and it certainly worked wonders on my hair. It does come with a two year manufacturer's guarantee so it would be a confident purchase, too.
