One pair of connectors with enough pins for 2 speakers and some extra for possible tour pack lighting. (I don't have any lighting on my tour pack now, but may add). So maybe a 10 or 12 pin connector. I'm not opposed to making my own; I can crimp and poke, and If the alternative is a $150 harness from HD it may be the way to go.

On my bike, there is a rectangular 6-pole multi-plug for the taillight wiring harness under the seat between thebattery and the rear fender. I had to disconnect this connection to install the Y-harness you may be referring to. I think that adapter is part of the accessory light bar wiring kit for the detachable tour pack.
