Ground Clearance

Ground clearance is another very important consideration, especially when intended for a trip along rocky pathways. Higher ground clearance is always advisable to prevent the floor of the trailer bumping into rocks scattered throughout the path. These rocks can be sharp and large and can do serious damage, so a clearance of at least around 15-16” is important.

Jeep Wrangler Trailers FAQs

Deciding on one travel trailer is no easy business. There are a lot of questions that may arise regarding them. These might not be answered in the above discussion but are similarly important. In this section, we answer some of the most sought-after questions to give you a deeper understanding of the matter.

Can a Jeep Wrangler Pull a Travel Trailer?

Yes, a Jeep Wrangler can pull a travel trailer as long as it weighs within 4000lbs. of weight. But this is not the dry weight; rather, it is the total loaded weight resulting after all of your supplies are placed on board. Larger travel trailers housing heavy equipment are not towable by jeep wrangler and put a strain on it, which might result in problems midway.

Can a Jeep Wrangler Pull 5000 Pounds?

No, the maximum total towing capacity for a regular jeep wrangler is within 4000lbs. Any trailer exceeding this value is not advisable to be towed by a jeep wrangler as it would not only put a strain on the engine but would also result in poor utilization of fuel.

jeep wrangler and trailer

Why is Jeep Wrangler Towing Capacity so Low?

Jeep Wranglers are a sturdy ride, but they have certain features that limit their towing capacity. These include springs not build for very rough use, such as Marshmallow springs.

Marshmallow springs can endure harshness up to a certain level but not for extreme supporting and pulling use. Moreover, jeep wranglers have mediocre brakes. While these suffice for traveling through sloppy hails and slippery lands or sandy desserts, they can only support the weight up to a certain extent.

Can You Increase the Towing Capacity of a Jeep Wrangler?

The towing capacity of jeep wranglers cannot be extended. This is because the limitations are related to the structure and durability of the engine. The engines can support the load up to some extent. For higher towing capacity, either specialized jeeps are used, or heavier vehicles are employed.

Do All Jeep Wranglers Come With a Hitch?

No, not all jeep wranglers come with a hitch. A hitch is crucial for connecting the trailer to the jeep wrangler. For those jeep models that do not come with a hitch, a receiver hitch could be attached to the jeep to enhance its versatility. The hitches are easily available on the market, and an appointment with a good mechanic is all that is needed to set you up.

Travel Trailers for Jeep Wranglers - Getting Into Places Others Can't

Jeep Wranglers are a popular option for towing trailers. Their off-road capabilities and towing capacity make them ideal for towing your trailer and getting off into the wild.

All of the above are great trailers and will do the trick for you on your road trips. Of course, size is a premium, so depending on the type of base you want for your trips, will determine the trailer you go for.

That said, we're sure whichever trailer you go for, the life experiences you'll gain from your new home on wheels will be amazing. Enjoy!

What’s the Best Travel Trailer For a Jeep Wrangler?

Published on September 26th, 2019 by Ray & Tammy Roman This post was updated on January 26th, 2023

Most big RVs just aren’t made for remote, off-road boondocking. Small campers, however, do the job just fine. Our list of the best travel trailers for a Jeep Wrangler will make you want to rough it in luxury.

best travel trailer for jeep wrangler

Why Tow a Small Camper with a Jeep Wrangler?

Many ultralight trailers can be towed with passenger cars. One of the best cars for towing a camper is the Jeep Wrangler. It’s one of the most popular 4×4 SUVs on the market and with good reason. The Wrangler easily handles rough terrain, slick roads, and steep inclines. It’s also a more affordable tow vehicle for small trailers compared to the cost of light trucks.

The 2-door Jeep Wrangler starts at $30,295 for the Sport trim and $33,000 for the Willys Sport trim. The more feature-rich Sport S trim starts at $33,890, while the Willys model begins at $37,285. The rugged Rubicon model starts at $42,100. DON’T MISS OUT ON RV LIVING UPDATES Sign up for the newsletter today! Please enter a valid email address. An error occurred. How Much Can a Jeep Wrangler tow?

The towing capacity of a Jeep Wrangler varies from 2,000- to 3,500 pounds depending on the Wrangler model. For example:

  • The 2-door Jeep Wrangler Sport has a towing capacity of 2,000 pounds, and the 4-door Jeep Wrangler Sport can tow up to 3,500 pounds. A Jeep Wrangler 2-door Sport comes with a 3.6 L engine. It has a manual transmission and also has a 3.21 axle ratio. It has a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 pounds.
  • If you buy a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited that has four doors and a 3.6 L engine, you can tow a camper up to 3,500 pounds. This model has an optional automatic transmission and an axle ratio of 3.73.

Locate a Jeep Wrangler Service Manual for your model to help you know exactly how much your Jeep can tow.

We try to keep our camper and cargo weights within 60%-70% of towing capacity for our Jeep Wrangler. For example, 60- to 70-percent of 3,500 pounds on a Jeep Unlimited would be 2,100- to 2450-pounds. That means your travel trailer’s fully gross vehicle weight should be around that much.

Remember, be kind to your Jeep transmission. Even though your Jeep is rated for the maximum weight, picking up highway speed on merges or going uphill can be a struggle when your GVWR is maxed out. This must be considered so that your Jeep Wrangler is within safe towing limits.

Final Thoughts on Travel Trailers for Jeep Wranglers

These campers are just a few examples of the many travel trailers that a Jeep Wrangler can tow. Look around and you’ll also find a good selection of teardrop travel trailers that a 2-door Jeep Wrangler can tow.

The most important thing to remember when deciding which travel trailer to tow with your Jeep is to always stay at about 65-70% of towing capacity. Staying in this range will give you some reserve power to merge safely and deal with inclines. And you will also preserve your Jeep transmission for many years of off-road camping.

Choosing The Best Travel Trailer For Jeep Wrangler

Pairing a travel trailer with a Jeep Wrangler will enable you to have a mobile home wherever you go and be comfortable even while spending long periods of time camping in remote places. However, there are a number of factors you need to consider before buying a travel trailer since Jeep Wrangler models cannot pull all travel trailers you can find on the market.

Let’s take a look at how you can determine if a travel trailer is a good fit for your Jeep Wrangler or follow this link to find out if a truck camper or travel trailer is the best option for you.

Check The Towing Capacity

Despite having incredibly strong engines Jeep Wrangler models have their towing limitations, which means that you have to check the travel trailer’s weight before you rent or buy.

The towing capacity of Jeep Wrangler models varies between 2000lbs and 4000lbs and you’ll need to check the vehicle’s manual in order to find its exact towing capacity.

Although Jeep Wranglers can pull weight that exceeds their maximum towing capacities on highways, you may get stuck in the mud or have difficulties going uphill if you go off-road with an overloaded vehicle. You won’t experience any of these problems if you opt for a travel trailer that fits your Jeep Wrangler’s towing capacity. You can find some of the best bunkhouse travel trailer options, here .

Consider The Design Of The Travel Trailer

Besides the weight of a travel trailer, its design can also have a major impact on how smoothly your Jeep Wrangler can move on and off the road.

Teardrop , hybrid, and pop up trailers as well as the iconic Airstream trailers have the best design features that reduce air resistance and make good use of the space. Moreover, none of these travel trailers include heavy equipment that adds to their weight so that your vehicle can move smoothly regardless of the terrain you are driving through.

Furthermore, the position of the kitchen or the beds is also worth considering since their accessibility can make your camping experiences more pleasant.

Search For Travel Trailers That Have Active Brake Controllers And Sway Control

Safety is probably the best guiding principle you can have while searching for new travel trailers for your Jeep Wrangler. That’s why it is advisable to look into the trailer’s sway control and brake controller features before you decide to buy it.

Environmental factors like strong wind can sway both your vehicle and travel trailers and cause a serious accident. That’s why you should search for a travel trailer model that has powerful sway control features and is capable of resisting strong gusts of wind without any risk of swaying.

In addition, being able to control the trailer’s braking system from your vehicle and stop it as soon as you hit the brake pad will increase your safety significantly.

Furthermore, the travel trailer’s braking system can prevent it from hitting the vehicle while you are descending down a steep road. Click here if you want to find the best weight distribution hitch with sway control.

Beware Of Overloading

Overloading your Jeep Wrangler isn’t something you should do lightly, because you might end up breaking the weight distribution hatch and causing a serious accident.

In addition to the travel trailer’s weight, you should also factor in the weight of the things you will be carrying in your trailer.

Avoid transporting heavy equipment in your trailer if the trailer’s weight is close to the vehicle’s maximum towing capacity because you may end up accidentally overloading it without even realizing it. Make sure to check out our ultimate guide to RV accessories and upgrades .

Check The Floor’s Distance From The Ground

Even though this may seem like an obvious thing to do, it cannot be stressed enough how important it is to check the travel trailer’s ground clearance. The general rule of thumb is the further the floor is from the ground, the better because it eliminates any chance of damage caused by sharp rocks you drive across.

Opting for a travel trailer that has 15’’ or 16’’ of ground clearance is advisable because it is highly unlikely that rocks can damage the floor at that distance from the ground.

Extending the maximum towing capacity of your Jeep Wrangler is not an option due to limitations imposed by the vehicle’s engine. If you want to pull heavier loads you should consider getting a vehicle that can handle them.

No, they don’t. In case the Jeep Wrangler model you have doesn’t have a hitch, you should get a receiver hitch that can be easily mounted on the vehicle.

XVENTURE XV-3 Camper Trailer: Best Value

jeep wrangler travel trailer

  • Weighs: 1200 lbs.
  • Capacity: two adults
  • Fits: any jeep

When you have this pop-top camper set-up, it looks, er, unique. [R] You’ll basically get a tent on top of your jeep trailer, so it looks quite different from traditional trailers.

With that said, this Jeep Wrangler camper is still tough and durable enough for any weather condition. What do you expect from a company that builds trailers for the military, right?

The XV-3 has 2 levels:

  • The first for your equipment
  • The second for the bed and sleeping area

The cargo bed is made of aluminum, so it’s durable but light. On top of this lower level sits the folded-down tent. Talk about making use of the vertical area!

jeep wrangler travel trailer

Now how do you protect your equipment if the sides are more or less open? The XV3 comes with a hard rolling cover made of titanium.

This gives you two things:

  • Fill bed access
  • A hard-paneled tonneau cover to keep your things safe, secure, clean, and dry

It even has UV resistance and a leather-grain vinyl so you don’t need to worry about any rough weather.

Schutt Industries makes ingenious use of everything this trailer has to offer.

The swing-out tailgate does 2 things:

  • It lets you access the trailer bed AND;
  • Acts as a flip-down stainless steel galley table as a work or food prep area or dining counter when you use it with the galley kitchen slide-out!

What’s this slide-out, you ask? It comes out of the side of the trailer and gives your camper an extra horizontal area.

jeep wrangler travel trailer

This slide-out contains the large propane stove and sink with pressurized hot water, powered by the on-demand water heater and 22-gallon freshwater tank.

Can My Jeep REALLY Handle A Jeep Camper?

We know that when you think about camping and off-roading, jeep wrangler conversion may not be the first thing that comes to mind.

You see, a jeep can’t handle a half-ton camper, BUT, it CAN handle certain kinds that are lightweight .

The Magical Number: Towing Capacity

Towing capacity is the MAXIMUM weight your vehicle can safely tow. You might think it’s as easy as looking it up, but the truth is the capacity of YOUR particular jeep will depend on how your vehicle is equipped.

Why Does My Towing Capacity Matter?

Just like with any structure, vehicles can only carry so much. Overloading your jeep can be extremely dangerous for everyone onboard. Plus, it can seriously damage your vehicle’s drivetrain. [R]

With an overloaded or improperly loaded jeep, your front will be too light and your back-end too heavy.

Since your front wheels basically do most of the stopping whenever you break, you can’t risk losing control of your steering wheel and breaks.

And suddenly, your fun trip can turn into a costly trip to the mechanic or worse, a trip down to the nearest hospital.

So How Much Can My Jeep Tow?

Here are some rough estimates of how much an average jeep wrangler can tow, depending on the year your particular model came out.

Average Towing Capacity of A Jeep Wrangler

  • 2010: 1,000-3,500 lbs.
  • 2011: 1,000-3,500 lbs.
  • 2012 to 2020: 2,000-3,500 lbs.

These are just averages. Depending on your particular model and all its trim, the exact towing capacity will vary.

What to Check to Find YOUR Specific Towing Capacity

There are a lot of things you’ll need to check to verify the exact towing capacity of your car. Do not just trust the salesman on this. It’s best to check yourself or to ask an expert, like a trusted mechanic.

Check the owner’s manual . This should have come with your vehicle and should list its exact towing capacity. But if you’ve misplaced it, a quick search online will give you a copy.

Can I Upgrade My Jeep Wrangler?

Yes! If you’d prefer to upgrade your jeep to make it safer and more stable, these are a few upgrades you should consider.:

  • Weight Distribution Hitch – to keep the jeep and camper level while driving and get a smoother drive
  • Sway Control – prevents getting buffeted by the wind
  • Transmission Cooler – to keep your transmission from overheating, which is more common when towing heavier loads
  • Wiring Harness – ensures that the lights on the camper are hooked onto your jeep
  • Brake Controller – connects the brakes of both the Jeep and camper to ensure they both stop with the same signal

How Do I Choose Among These Campers?

Check the jeep camper dry weight.

Now that you know how much jeep campers can carry, first, consider the dry weight (DW) of your jeep camper conversion options.

For those of you who don’t know yet, DW refers to how heavy the Jeep Wrangler Camper is without adding any water, gas, or gear.

In other words, it’s the total load of the jeep camper when it’s COMPLETELY EMPTY.

Generally, the lowest average load of an Airstream trailer is roughly 2500 pounds. And just like that, you may already be over the capacity of your jeep. And that’s not even considering the equipment you need to bring!

So when considering your options for the right Jeep Wrangler Camper, LOOK AT THE DRY WEIGHT FIRST . Make sure to consider this plus the load of all the water, food, and gear you’ll be bringing with you for your trips.

To be safe, the maximum load of EVERYTHING should be 10% to 15% LESS than the total towing capacity of your Jeep Wrangler.

How Big is She?

Besides the load, you also need to consider the size of the camper you’re considering. Remember: you don’t want to tow jeep campers that are much too tall for your Jeep Wrangler!

Why, you ask? Because a camper that’s too tall will sway in the wind. Worse, it can even detach from your jeep! Yikes!

And don’t even try going for one that’s too long for your jeep.

Not only will this make it difficult for you to maneuver your vehicle (which is already dangerous when you’re off-roading), but it will also mean that your camper will likely be too heavy for your Jeep.

There Is Hope: Types of Campers A Jeep Handle

Okay, so it seems downright impossible to find a good Jeep Wrangler Camper, right? Wrong!

There are still tons of excellent options you can find out there for your vehicle.

You just have to make sure you choose one that is light, small, and more aerodynamic than the ones you’d normally find on the back of a pick-up truck.

Casita Travel/Hybrid Trailer

DW: 2000 – 5000 lbs.

Length: 16 – 30 ft. (unextended)

If you need more spacious jeep campers, such as one that can fit a small group or family, this is an excellent option.

You still get enough living space will get a lightweight camper thanks to its fiberglass construction.

This lightweight material combined with its design gives you an aerodynamic jeep camper that your Jeep can handle while also helping you stay fuel-efficient .

Teardrop Trailer

DW: 520 – 2500 lbs.

Length: 4 – 6 ft.

If you plan to go off-grid on your own or with just two adults , the teardrop trailer is for you.

It’s perfect for a more basic camping trip if you like roughing it without having to sleep on the ground.

They’re basically like rooftop tents, so these are pretty lightweight, especially if you get one of the more basic, smaller models.

If your Jeep can handle a camper that’s closer to the upper limit (about 3500 pounds), some options can even give you a bathroom, cooking area, a restroom, and storage space!

Pop-Up Trailers

DW: 600 – 4000 lbs.

Length: 8 – 16 ft. (box only)

Pop-Top Campers are a great trailer option if you’re okay with towing your jeep camper BEHIND your vehicle.

A good mid-sized pop-top camper will even come with a full-sized built-in bed, a dinette, and living space.

Plus, if you’re up for it, you can purchase a bolt-on conversion kit so you can install the pop-up yourself and save on installation fees.

Just DON’T go for the biggest pop-up trailer, and you should be fine.

One thing to note is pop-top campers have walls that are made of waterproof soft canvas , so this may not be for everyone. But that’s what keeps it lightweight and easy to tow, so we’re not complaining.

Airstream Basecamp

DW 2500 – 4000 lbs.

Length: 17 – 33 ft.

If you’re considering an Airstream, you will need to stick with the smaller models so you don’t exceed your Jeep’s maximum towing capacity.

However, even their smaller models come with a bathroom, kitchen, and a lounge/bed area. It’s certainly one jeep camper option to consider.

While this may be one of the most expensive campers available out there, it’s certainly worth the money if you have it.

This jeep camper’s fiberglass construction makes this one of the most lightweight chassis you’ll find compared to those on other campers.

The result? You get more amenities! There’s a reason this is the only jeep camper on this list that has a grey water tank!

XVENTURE XV-3 Camper: Best Value

You get value everywhere on this jeep camper! Not only is it durable and lightweight, but also smartly designed to make use of all the vertical areas.

While it may not have all the amenities, you’re sure to get a jeep camper that will last you a long time with the XV-3.

JL30 Pop-Top Jeep Camper: Best Budget

If you want the smallest jeep camper in terms of size, weight, and cost, THIS pop-up is the one!

We know this is as basic as it can get, but the JL30 Pop-Up is unbeatable at its price point. If you’re just looking for a bed while being one with nature, this is an excellent option.

With some ingenuity and creativity, these manufacturers have found the best ways to maximize your jeep’s limited area and towing capacity.

From what is just a bed with a roof to a pop-up camper and onto a fully decked-out trailer cum RV, your car can easily transform into a home away from home.

We hope you found a great option for you in this jeep camper guide!

Towing A Travel Trailer With A Jeep Wrangler

Towing A Travel Trailer With A Jeep Wrangler: All You Need To Know

Aaron Richardson

  • Last Updated: February 22, 2024
  • 16 minutes read

Travel trailers provide more freedom than RVs for overlanding adventures, since you can leave your trailer parked in your campsite and use your vehicle to go exploring.

You also do not always need a huge truck to pull your travel trailer, in fact, Jeep Wranglers and other small SUVs are capable of pulling many travel trailer models.

But, what are the limitations of the size and weight of travel trailer you can pull with a Jeep Wrangler? Do you need special equipment? What are the best travel trailers that you can tow with a Jeep Wrangler?

I’ll cover all of these questions and more in this article, so that you can hit the road with your Jeep Wrangler and your tiny home on wheels in tow.

Towing A Travel Trailer With A Jeep Wrangler_ All You Need To Know

What Is The Towing Capacity of a Jeep Wrangler?

When towing anything with your Jeep Wrangler, it’s important to keep three things in mind:

  • The Vehicle
  • The Trailer

What Can the Vehicle Handle?

First things first, you need to know your Jeep’s towing capacity. Most Jeep Wranglers have a towing capacity of 2,000 to 3,500 pounds, depending on the model that you have.

In general, two-door Jeep Wranglers can tow a travel trailer that’s weights up to 2,000 pounds, while the four-door models have a tow rating of up to 3,500 pounds.

Newer Jeep Wranglers have a higher towing capacity. The JK Wrangler (2006 to present) has some trailer hitches with towing capacity up to 5,000 pounds.

The TJ Wrangler (1997-2006) has bumper mounted towing hitches, but chassis-mounted hitches are also available and can tow up to 4,000 pounds.

After towing capacity, the Jeep’s payload rating is important to keep in mind.

The maximum payload capacity is the total weight of everything in or on your Jeep, including the driver, passengers, fuel, winch, skid plates, and any gear you pack inside or on the vehicle.

You should be able to find your Jeep’s payload rating on the driver’s side door or B-pillar. Never tow if your payload exceeds the vehicle’s capacity.

What is the Condition of the Trailer

What is the Condition of the Trailer?

Even though the Jeep will do the majority of the work when towing, you need to make sure your travel trailer is safe to pull.

Check for damage or rust, especially on the trailer base (axles, frame, etc.). Make sure that the exterior lights are working properly, especially the brake and turn signal lights.

Your trailer tires should also be in good condition with plenty of tread to good contact with the road when you’re on the move.

You’ll need to consider the trailer’s GVWR before you buy, since it will need to be light enough to meet your Jeep Wrangler’s capacity for towing.

As you calculate what you can pack and bring with you on your travels, remember to account about 10% of your trailer’s GVWR for payload (clothes, gear, water, food, cooking fuel, etc.).

Are You Ready to Drive With a Trailer in Tow?

Your ability to drive with a heavy trailer in tow is also very important for safety.

Even if you have driven a vehicle with a trailer in tow before, you should take a couple of practice drives to get a feel for how this Jeep and this trailer maneuver.

You’ll need to be comfortable with the extra length, how to handle sharp corners, how to reverse and how the trailer reacts in reverse.

A helpful trick is to steer in the opposite direction that you want the trailer to go when you reverse.

Remember that any little change in direction from the Jeep will likely result in a big change at the back of the trailer, no matter what its length.

Can A Jeep Wrangler Pull A Travel Trailer?

Can You Pull a Travel Trailer With a Jeep Wrangler

With an average maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds, you can definitely tow more lightweight travel trailers with your Jeep Wrangler. However, you’ll need to consider the trailer’s gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), and not the dry weight.

This is because the GVWR takes into account the weight of your clothing, gear, water (fresh, gray, black) and gas.

In general, the kinds of travel trailers that have this low of a GVWR include pop-up trailers, teardrop trailers, hybrid trailers, and some Airstream trailers:

What Campers Can A Jeep Wrangler Tow?

Pop-up trailers.

Pop-up trailers are campers that collapse as you travel, which you then crank up to full height with standing room inside when you’re parked at your campsite.

towing popup camper with jeep wrangler

Other names for pop-up trailers are tent trailers or fold-out campers. These trailers are much lighter, since the sidewalls are usually canvas or another weather-resistant material that’s far more lightweight than aluminum or fiberglass.

The bed areas slide out as well, so you can have everything you need, including a kitchen and bathroom .

Average GVWR: 600 – 2800 pounds

Teardrop Trailers

A newer addition to the mini travel trailer scene is the teardrop trailer, which is shaped like a teardrop.

Inside, there’s typically only room for a bed, and the back of the trailer has a hatch that opens to cover your kitchen and cooking area. Sometimes, these trailers have an outdoor shower option.

Although they usually don’t have bathrooms or living areas inside, there are some lightweight teardrop trailers that do.

Average GVWR: 500 – 3,200 pounds (most are around 1,000 pounds)

Hybrid Trailers

Combining the design of a standard travel trailer and pop-up trailer, a hybrid trailer has hard sides with pop-out sleeping areas on one or both ends.

These pop-outs are canvas, tent-like material just like you find with a pop-up trailer, but hybrid trailers are more insulated and durable because of the hard side walls.

However, they tend to run a little heavier because of the use of heavier materials, so you’d need to get the lightest weight option if you’re towing it with a Jeep Wrangler.

Average GVWR: 3,000 – 7,000 pounds

Low-Weight Airstream Trailers

Airstream trailers are the “old school” classic, silver bullet travel trailers, and many people love them not just for their retro ambiance, but for the durability and design style.

Most Airstream trailers are too heavy to tow with a Jeep Wrangler, but the Airstream Sport 16RB is just lightweight enough, with a GVWR of 3,500 pounds.

That’s cutting it a little bit close, but if you’re careful to pack minimally, you can tow it with your Jeep Wrangler.

Lowest GVWR: 3,500 pounds

What Equipment Do You Need to Tow a Travel Trailer With a Jeep Wrangler?

What Equipment Do You Need to Tow a Travel Trailer With a Jeep Wrangler

The baseline equipment that you will need to safely tow a travel trailer with any vehicle are a receiver hitch and a trailer wiring plug so that you can connect the rear brake and turn signal lights.

You will also need a hitch ball and a mount with a hitch pin that match your trailer, and safety chains crossing underneath the tongue to catch it just in case the hitch fails.

Most aftermarket bumpers are equipped with a hitch receiver that’s only intended for things like a cargo rack, and not a heavy travel trailer.

So, it’s important to make sure your hitch receiver is rated for towing. It should have a Class II or Class III designation, and be a 2-inch receiver instead of a 1.25-inch receiver to handle more weight.

The weight capacities of the towing tongue and hitch ball are also important considerations as you purchase or upgrade your towing equipment.

The tongue should only carry about 10% of the trailer’s GVWR, and certainly no more than 15%.

The rule of 10% also applies to the weight on the hitch ball, and you should be sure to load your trailer with balanced weight distribution.

Otherwise, you might see reduced performance as you travel at high speeds or even unsafe conditions such as sudden movements to the left or right.

There are also a couple of additional upgrades that might be good to consider when towing a travel trailer with a Jeep Wrangler.

For example, towing extra weight may cause your Jeep to overheat, so you might want to consider upgrading your vehicle’s cooling system.

You might also want to upgrade the brake pads and rotors, especially if they are older. Other good safety upgrades you might want to look at are sway control or a brake controller.

Benefits of Using a Jeep Wrangler to Tow Your Travel Trailer

A Jeep Wrangler is a fantastic SUV to own, whether you’re just driving around town or you’re towing your travel trailer into nature for an off-grid camping trip.

Some of the biggest advantages of using a Jeep Wrangler for pulling your travel trailer include:

  • Power and durability. Jeeps are designed to be powerful sports utility vehicles and off-road hustler. They handle well in any weather, and provide all-terrain exploring with powerful traction, excellent articulation, and easy maneuvering. While most Jeeps have an average towing capacity of 3,500 pounds, some can pull as much as 5,000 pounds, expanding your options for the kind and size of travel trailer you can tow.
  • Increased ground clearance. The cabin in a Jeep is higher than most vehicles, including other SUVs, providing a height advantage and greater visibility. Not only can you see further down the road, you can pull your travel trailer into more rugged camping locations (provided your trailer has high enough clearance).
  • Improved gas mileage. When you’re not towing anything, you can expect to get around 22 miles per gallon in the city and 29 MPG on the highway, but of course your gas mileage will be lower when you tow a travel trailer. When towing, your gas mileage will depend on your speed, but you can expect to get 10-15mpg.
  • Long lifespan. While most SUVs have an average lifespan of 200,000 miles, Jeep Wranglers often have double that at up to 400,000 miles. The V6 engine is also one of the best on the market and is extremely reliable, so you can travel with your trailer in tow for many miles and years to come.
  • Unique features and great upgrades. A top appeal of the Jeep is your ability to take the top off and enjoy the feeling of the wind in your hair. There are also a lot of useful upgrades that you can make to your Jeep to make it easier and more fun to use to pull your travel trailer along on your adventures. Some of the most popular upgrades include skid bars, winch mounts, and LED headlights, but there are many more available.

5 Amazing Travel Trailers You Can Tow With a Jeep Wrangler

5 Amazing Travel Trailers You Can Tow With a Jeep Wrangler

Even though you’re limited to only the more lightweight travel trailers when towing with a Jeep Wrangler, there are still lots of options.

Luckily, there are many travel trailers with a GVWR of 3,500 or below, and I’ll highlight some of the best ones below.

5. High Camp Teardrop Trailer

High Camp Teardrop Trailer

If you’re going to be camping in campgrounds or other locations with facilities and don’t want to sacrifice your limited interior space for a shower or bathroom, the High Camp teardrop trailer is an excellent choice.

It comes in at a GVWR of 2,500 pounds, so most Jeep Wranglers can easily tow it with capacity to spare.

However, it’s quite a bit smaller than the other trailers I’ve mentioned on this list so far, and you’ll likely only use the interior space for sleeping since it’s designed completely around the queen-sized bed inside.

Despite the tiny size, the High Camp still feels quite spacious for sleeping inside, with 40 inches of headroom and entrance doors with windows on either side.

There are also storage cubbies at the head and foot of the bed, with folding cup holders, DC outlets in the headboard for charging devices, two coat hooks, two swiveling LED reading lights, and an overhead LED light.

The interior feels cozy and sleek, with warm birch cabinetry and paneling. The bed is a standard queen (80” by 60”), with a firm foam mattress.

Your cooking space is out of the back hatch with the High Camp teardrop trailer, and features slide-out drawers for the three-burner stainless steel cooktop and Coleman cooler (you can upgrade to a Dometic CC40 12-volt fridge).

There’s plenty of storage for all of your cooking and camping gear, with a cubbies and cabinets above and a large (36″ L x 18″ H x 8″ D) cubby underneath.

The hatch keeps you covered while you cook, with a 48-inch LED overhead light, heavy duty automotive hatch lifts and a locking hatch handle.

There’s no shower or bathroom in the High Camp teardrop trailer, but it is equipped with an Aquacube on-demand water heater that you can connect to a 5-gallon “Jerry” can for washing dishes or even taking a hot shower.

High Camp has fitted their trailers for easy and safe towing, and include a 2-inch hitch ball, emergency breakaway switch, drop-down trailer stabilizers, and 10-inch electric drum brakes on every trailer.

While most trailers have a 4-pin trailer connector, the High Camp comes with a 7-pin trailer connector equipped with tow vehicle charging and brake line (requires brake controller installed either in vehicle or on trailer).

  • Duracell 100 amp-hour Group 27 deep cycle battery and Progressive Dynamics 3-stage intelligent battery charger/converter
  • Zero-maintenance clear anodized aluminum skin
  • Solar-ready with universal solar panel plug

12 Great Campers For Jeep Wrangler Owners: 2024 Models

Jeep campers for Wrangler owners

Sharing is caring!

Few vehicles on the road can boast such a high level of popularity and borderline obsession from the people who drive Jeep Wranglers. As rugged as they are, Wranglers don’t exactly have a massive towing capacity. Thankfully, there are quite a few options out there for campers that are perfect for Jeep Wrangler owners.

Jeep owners aren’t cruising highways and spending their camping trip inside a luxury fifth wheel. They are out exploring and looking for new unspoiled locations. Although Jeep campers may be small, they serve the exact purpose Jeep owners require.

Mike and Susan, the owners of RVBlogger.com and TravelTrailerPro.com, own a 2 door Jeep Wrangler they have towed around the country with them for 2 years! They provided the recommendations in this article for the best campers to tow behind a Jeep.

Let’s take a closer look at Jeeps, what they can tow, and some of the best Jeep campers on the market right now.

Can A Jeep Wrangler Tow A Camper Trailer?

The 2-door Wrangler is the biggest lightweight in the family when it comes to towing. Due to this, the only real Jeep camper options here are teardrops and pop-up campers. 4-door Jeeps have a bit more power, giving them a larger variety of options

Broadly speaking, the answer is yes. But, what you can tow will depend on exactly which model of Jeep you have. And even more powerful Jeeps still have fairly limited towing capacities.

There’s also the Jeep Gladiator truck, which is quite a bit more powerful than its Wrangler brothers. Because it’s beefier, the Gladiator can tow a much wider range of travel trailers, including mid-sized ones.

How Much Can A Jeep Wrangler Tow?

The photo above is Mike and Susan of RVBlogger.com , TravelTrailerPro.com , MotorhomeFAQs.com , and the RVBlogger YouTube channel , standing in front of their 2020 2-door Jeep Wrangler.

So, we’ve seen that Jeep Wranglers can tow some trailers. But how much exactly can they tow?

For a 2-door Wrangler, your towing capacity tops out at 2,000 lbs. That might sound like a lot to the uninitiated, but in fact, it’s less than many cars can tow. This seriously reduces the number of Jeep campers available.

The 4-door fares a bit better with a towing capacity of 3,500 lbs, in part due to the longer wheelbase. This still isn’t exactly impressive, but it at least opens your trailer options up a little more.

There are also rumors of the 4-door Jeep Wrangler towing capacity increasing to 5,000 lbs for the next model year, so keep your fingers crossed.

How Much Can The Jeep Gladiator Tow?

Jeep’s Gladiator truck is, unsurprisingly, a bit beefier in the towing department than either Wrangler option. It more than doubles the 4-door Wrangler’s tow capacity with a max of 7,700 lbs.

This means the Gladiator is your best bet if you want a Jeep with decent towing capacity. When you compare it to other trucks, however, it’s still a fair amount weaker than other trucks on the market.

12 Small Campers You Can Tow With Your Jeep

Since the 2-door and 4-door Jeep Wranglers have different tow capacities, we’ll break things down by model, with 5 Jeep campers for each.

The Gladiator’s beefier towing capacity means it’s easier to find trailers for it, but we’ll also give you a couple of options there too, including a truck bed camper!

5 Campers Towable with 2-door Jeep Wranglers

The 2-door Jeep Wrangler can tow up to 2,000 lbs so we found the best 5 camper trailers that weigh less than 2,000 lbs UVW.

Why Are Jeeps So Popular?

Jeeps are massively popular vehicles, and they have a cult of personality around them that few other cars can even hold a candle to. For example, we have mastered the “Jeep Wave” and we get ducked on a regular basis. But just why are they so popular?

Part of it is their classic and iconic design based on American military vehicles from World War 2. The Jeep’s versatility is also a big contributing factor to its popularity. It can be driven as a daily driver to and from work during the week, then taken out for off-road adventures on the weekend.

The thriving community of Jeep lovers is a big source of its popularity as well. You’re likely already familiar with the “Jeep wave” that owners share whenever they pass one another. But this is far from the only part of Jeep Mania— rubber duckies , meetups, and more all help contribute to the unique culture around these special vehicles.

Of course, even considering all this, there’s one main thing we can point to that makes Jeeps so popular: they’re just awesome!

How Much Do Jeeps Cost?

Jeeps are great vehicles, but they aren’t exactly affordable. Prices start around $30,000 at the low end, and go all the way up to $90,000 at the high end for the 392 Hemi version.

While you can save some money by buying a used Jeep, you’re still looking at paying a pretty penny. Jeeps hold their value well, meaning even a 10-year-old Jeep with significant mileage can still cost over $20,000.

Is It Safe To Haul A Camper With A Jeep Wrangler?

Yes, it is safe to haul a camper with a Jeep Wrangler, but you’ll have to keep a few things in mind first.

First and most importantly, you’ll need to pay careful attention to your Jeep’s specs. Ensure your trailer, plus gear and supplies, doesn’t exceed the tow limit for your Wrangler. If you don’t, you could end up damaging both your Jeep and your camper.

Are Jeeps Hard On Fuel?

Are Jeeps Hard On Fuel?

While newer Jeeps have somewhat better fuel economy than older models, overall, Jeeps are not fuel-efficient vehicles. In fact, they can be pretty hard on fuel, owing in part to their not-so-aerodynamic design.

While the stats place the Jeep Wrangler’s fuel economy at 17 mpg city and 25 mpg highway, as is the case with most vehicles, you’ll likely get worse mileage in the real world.

If you’ll be towing with your Jeep, your fuel economy will be even worse. Some statistics show that every extra 100 pounds on your vehicle reduces MPG by about 1%, so a 3,000-pound trailer means a 30% drop in fuel economy. And this is before factoring in things like drag which will also drop your miles per gallon.

Final Thoughts About Campers You Can Tow With A Jeep

The Jeep Wrangler is an iconic vehicle, and for good reason. While they don’t have the highest towing capacity around (especially for the 2-door), there are still plenty of amazing Jeep campers on the market right now.

Jeeps scream adventure so combining yours with a compatible camper can make for some epic trips.

Whatever option you choose, you’re sure to be the envy of the RV park when you roll up with your Jeep camper in tow.

Camper Trailers with a Jeep Wrangler simply make sense. After all, the biggest selling point of a Jeep Wrangler is its off-road capability. It sounds like the perfect idea to marry the mud and dirt capabilities of a Wrangler with the rugged potential of an off-grid travel trailer type.

The only problem is, that a Wrangler isn’t exactly a towing machine. There are small SUVs out there that have a higher towing capacity. Depending on the trim, a Jeep Wrangler will tow between 2,000 and 3,500 lbs. All two-door Jeep Wranglers tow no more than 2,000 lbs.

Fortunately, travel trailer options don’t begin and end outside of a Jeep Wrangler’s towing ability. There are a few, very good choices out there, especially if you prefer micro-living and off-grid adventuring. If that sounds good to you, check out our top ten pre-owned travel trailers for Jeep Wranglers and get your gear ready!

What are the Pros and Cons of Towing a Travel Trailer with a Jeep Wrangler?

Jeeps are great. Camping is great. But there are a few pros (and cons!) when you combine camper trailers with the Jeep Wrangler. Here’s a quick checklist of 3 Pros and 3 Cons of towing a travel trailer with a Jeep Wrangler:

✅ No doubt, camping and towing with a Jeep Wrangler will get you into sites that no other RV or towing vehicle will. ✅ A Jeep Wrangler can and will be able to face any terrain. ✅ Smaller travel trailers are less expensive than bigger RVs like fifth wheels and Class A motorhomes.

⛔️ Your towing capacity is limited, which means you will need to tow smaller lightweight travel trailers. Luxuries such as a large bathroom, kitchen, and living space are not an option here. ⛔️ Little to no storage in your compact travel trailer, teardrop, or pop up camper. ⛔️ A Jeep is great! But its design, suspension, drive train, and overall architecture are what limits its towing capacity.

Best Used Camper Trailers to Tow with a Jeep Wrangler

Below we will take a look at 10 of the best camper trailers for you to tow with your Jeep Wrangler. You should note that we only included camper trailers with a weight well below the maximum tow capacity of the Jeep Wrangler.

We did this so that you could pack as many things as you want without needing to worry about going over capacity. So, when your camper is fully loaded, you will still be able to safely tow it.

⛔ It is best for weekend and short trips, not long-term off-grid

  • Length 11.6 ft.
  • UVW: 840 lbs
  • CCC: 810 lbs
  • GVWR: 1,650 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 85 lbs

The Sylvan Sport Go is one of the most unique campers available to you. That is because it is a popup trailer that folds up and is very condensed when you are traveling and on the road.

As a result, it is incredibly lightweight and adds very little wind resistance. The side walls are not even made of aluminum like most trailers, instead, they are made from the same material you would see in a normal camping tent.

Since the purpose of this camper trailer is lightweight and condensed, it is also very small. It is only seven feet long, so the only time you will be spending inside is to sleep or grab a quick meal.

Additionally, it has an unloaded vehicle weight of just 840 pounds. So, not only will you be able to tow it with Sylvan Sport Go camper trailers with a Jeep Wrangler, but it can also be towed by almost any vehicle.

With this trailer, it is important to remember that you are making sacrifices. You will not have the luxuries of a normal camper, but you also will not need to worry about lugging around something massive. So, there are pros and cons you need to weigh if you are considering this camper.

In the trailer, you will have a queen-sized bed for you and your spouse to sleep in. However, unlike many of the other options, there is a couch that you can use to relax throughout the day. Alternatively, someone can sleep on it, increasing the sleeping capacity to three people.

Additionally, the trailer has extra seating, a sink, a two-burner stove, and plenty of storage. So, you can cook yourself a meal while you stay in one of these trailers, unlike many of the other small options.

While this camper trailer might be as small as the other options on this list, it has more of the features that larger-sized trailers have. So you will get to experience RVing without making a massive financial investment.

If you are considering buying a Travel Trailer, we highly recommend that you rent one first. Inside the trailer, you can cook a meal on the three-burner stove. Also in the kitchen is a large sink, a fridge, and lots of overhead storage. There is even a TV that comes with the trailer for you to keep yourself entertained on rainy or cold days.

  • CCC: 1,520 lbs
  • GVWR: 3,000 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 130 lbs

Additionally, since the trailer is larger than most other two-person trailers, it has a lot of storage. • UVW: 2,135 lbs
  • CCC: 1,275 lbs
  • GVWR: 3,410 lbs

However, the interior only provides 6 feet and 6 inches of height. As a result, this might not be the best option for exceptionally tall people.

Additionally, the trailer has an unloaded vehicle weight of 2,600 pounds. The dry hitch weight is 250 pounds, and the axle weight is 2350 pounds. It has a cargo carrying capacity of 11 pounds, and a GVWR of 3700 pounds.

Additionally, the trailer comes with three water tanks, fresh, grey, and black water tanks. They all have capacities of 26 gallons.

Inside the trailer, you will have access to a plethora of luxurious features. The bathroom has a black tank flush toilet. There is also ducted heat in the restroom to help eliminate condensation, and there is a skylight.

10. Black Series HQ 12

✅ Aluminum composite paneling and aluminum diamond plating make for a durable exterior

⛔ You’d think that such a high-tech boondocking wonder would have a power awning

  • Length: 19′
  • UVW: 2,260 lbs
  • GVWR: 3,780 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 280 lbs

If you are looking for one of the best camper trailers for off-roading, the Black Series HQ12 is one of your best options available.

Not only is it capable of traversing the most difficult roads and environments, but it is also quite stylish. Additionally, it has a plethora of features that are only normally found on forward fold campers twice the price.

For example, the manufacturers worked tirelessly to develop a robust independent suspension system for the trailer. The custom-designed trailing arms will allow each wheel to move independently.

This will make for a smoother and more stable ride whether you are on the highway or on rough terrain. Additionally, the quad shock design spreads the load across four shocks instead of two.

Furthermore, the exterior of the trailer is built for rugged performance. The galvanized chassis and pinched rubber seals will prevent the harsh environment from doing any damage to your camper trailer. It also comes with ample storage to house any equipment you might need for an extended trip.

Inside the trailer, you will have lots of space with a queen-sized sleeping area, along with seating for the whole family. Additionally, the seating area converts into a comfortable sleeping surface, allowing you to bring your whole family with you on your next trip.

There are even LED lights included all throughout the trailer that let you continue to hang out long after the sun has gone down.

Are Jeep Wranglers Good For Towing?

Jeep Wranglers are good for towing small, lightweight travel trailers and nothing more. The four-door versions of Sport, Sport S, Rubicon, Rubicon X, Rubicon 392, Sahara, Freedom, and Willys are capable of towing 3,500 lbs, while the remaining, two-door models are stuck at the 2,000 -lb limitation.

When used to tow travel trailers or any other trailer that weighs less than the Jeep’s maximum capability, it will tow it just like any other vehicle. However, with the exception of the Rubicon 392 (which has a 6.4L V8 Hemi), you’ll notice the strain on the engine, lower gas mileage, and limited climbing power.

Why Can’t Jeeps Tow Much Weight?

Some Jeeps can tow a lot more or, at least, one Jeep can tow more. The Jeep Gladiator is capable of towing up to 7,650 lbs. That’s more than what some F-150s can tow, depending on the trim package. If you want a more serious tow package, the Jeep Gladiator is the better option over the Wrangler.

The reason Wranglers can’t tow very much is the limitations on the drivetrain. It’s made for off-roading, hitting the mudholes, and driving in places most cars can’t. Off-roading and towing capabilities are not one and the same. Jeep Wranglers use marshmallow springs, not designed for heavy, consistent compression under a load.

Jeep Wranglers also lack the brakes for towing heavy loads. There’s a huge difference between braking in the middle of a mud puddle and braking on the downside of a mountain road with 10,000 lbs behind you.

When a Jeep, like the Gladiator, is made for towing, you’ll notice the improved torque, more robust braking system, and heavy-duty springs, none of which work as well in terms of rapid maneuvering in off-road conditions.

Final Thoughts About Used Camper Trailers For Jeep Wranglers

Used Camper trailers for Jeep Wranglers work, so long as you know your Jeep’s towing capacity and GVWR, matching it to the perfect travel trailer for you and your family. Jeep Wranglers are made for going off-road, but they don’t have to go alone.

Sure, they aren’t made for pulling, but RVs have come so far in terms of technology that lighter, stronger, more robust, and technologically incredible are all apt descriptors. If you have an itch for hitting the side roads everywhere you travel and want to camp out as well, you can have your cake and eat it too.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

jeep wrangler travel trailer

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

jeep wrangler travel trailer

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

jeep wrangler travel trailer

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

jeep wrangler travel trailer

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

jeep wrangler travel trailer

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

jeep wrangler travel trailer

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.

2024 Easter Jeep Safari Concepts: Low-Boy V-8 Wrangler, Retro Gladiator, and a Vacationeer

This year’s easter jeep safari in moab, utah, features new concepts unveiled just for the event, and we quick look at our favorites..

I t’s time for the 58th annual Easter Jeep Safari, and that also means Stellantis’ off-road Jeep brand has some off-roader concepts that give us a peek into the minds of its designers . This annual parade of concepts also give us a taste of what might be coming from Jeep in the future, including for new colors, options, and accessory parts for the Wrangler, Gladiator, Grand Wagoneer, and others. Here are the concepts from the 2024 EJS that still caught our attention, four vehicles consisting of a JL, JT, and WS all gussied up and looking their best for Moab, Utah.

Wrangler Unlimited 392 Low Down Concept

Not everyone likes a sky-high Jeep, and some of those niche folks still enjoy getting off the pavement and getting there fast. The Low Down concept adopts lessons from the Lower 40 JK-generation two-door Wrangler concept from 15 years ago and applies to a modern JL Wrangler Unlimited 392. This means it’s a four-door Wrangler set to a stock ride height but fitted with a set of BFGoodrich Krawler tires sized a massive 42x14.50R20. No, you aren’t reading that wrong, this is a JL set up with 42s—without a lift. But those tires did require a bit of interesting clearance work to get them to fit as well as a set of Dana 60 axles fitted with a set of 5.38:1 gears to drive these massive meats. These BFGs are then attached to those axles by a set of 20x9.0 RBP 50R Cobra beadlock wheels custom finished in bronze with black beadlock rings.

Even with this Jeep's stock height, the massive 42-inch tires still help with ground clearance along with the shorter front and rear bumpers. This also gives the tires some additional room along with the custom set of carbon fiber fenders that cover the rubber just enough. The front set feature LED running lights molded into the leading edge of the fenders and a set of gills on top. The rear fenders required a cut as they now extend into the rear doors. Further modifications to make room for those tires include removing the inner fender wells, but the body mods don’t stop there.

While you’re drooling over that Poison Apple Red paint, you might just miss the fact that the rear door handles are missing. The designers were considering just welding the rear doors shut, but they also still wanted interior functionality and a way for rear passengers to get in. The compromise was to nix the exterior handles and fill the door sheetmetal and just let them open from the inside. The Low Down also pays homage to old race cars of the 1960s and 1970s, which is why you’ll find that unique stripe going three-quarters the way down the front body with “392” in an old-school lined font. Just above it is a “CG Rated” badge in a matching white that you might just miss it if you’re not paying attention. Out back, the tailgate features a retro “Jeep” logo and retro “4-Wheel Drive” logo under the left taillight.

Continuing to the top, the hood is a custom-made carbon fiber piece with a see-through “power dome” that’s reminiscent of ye olde racers thanks to the holes cut out and just waiting for a set of intake trumpets. Instead, the 392 remains stock with its 475-hp, 6.4-liter spec and filled using a unique race-style filler cap and “rocket fuel only” decal behind the left rear quarter panel. The roof features a bespoke red-tinted bikini top that allows light in, but will still protect the occupants from rest of the elements.

Dropping down into the interior you’ll find a set of custom black leather seats with cloth inserts and breather rings for the occupants. No need to worry about getting the floor dirty as it’s Rhino-lined to take whatever you happen to track (or those tires fling) in. To really set the idea that this is a racier Wrangler, the dashboard is a custom piece that features a radio delete. Why worry about music when all you’ll need to hear is that 392 roaring loud and proud? The dash is finished in the same Poison Apple Red as the exterior and a white “meatball” with the same retro “392” graphic as the front body adorns the dashboard.

Gladiator Rubicon High Top Concept

This is the first of the Jeep Performance Parts (JPP) concepts, and this JT Rubicon is finished in a black retro-graphic to create a two-tone effect against the Ginger Snap metallic paint job. It also rides on a set of 40x13.50R18 BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3 tires on a set of 18x9.0 KMC Grenade Crawl beadlocks in Satin Black. What we really dig are the set of JPP flat fender-inspired flares that are currently just concepts now, but we hope they become reality. These fenders along with the AccuAir air suspension allow those 40-inch tires to clear easily and allow the driver to increase clearance when the need arises. This Gladiator is also equipped with a set of Dana 60 axles with 5.38 gears to help the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 drive those large treads.

The front bumper is a modified version of an American Expedition Vehicles bumper with a low hoop to protect the Warn winch equipped inside it. The rock rails from Rock Slide Engineering have power steps built into them to allow easy entry and exit while a Decked truck bed storage system protects cargo while still allowing room in the bed for additional and taller cargo on top of it. Inside, new tan and black Alea leather quilted and perforated covers the seats while new JPP headrests adorn their tops. Sun protection is provided by a JPP sun bonnet while the floors feature JPP all-weather floor mats, door sill guards, and a pedal kit for the driver.

Grand Wagoneer Vacationeer Concept

Finally, we have a new take on an overlanding Wagoneer, but with a Grand-er throwback. The Spearmint- colored Grand Wagoneer is known as the Vacationeer and brings back nostalgia in not just its color scheme and woodgrain stripe, but also in the idea of the family vacation vehicles the original Wagoneer and later Grand Wagoneer models were through the 1960s to the early 1990s. First up, the minty Grand Wagoneer is sitting on 35-inch diameter BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM3 tires on a set of 18x9.0 Method Racing 701 wheels. To fit these larger tires, the wheel openings were enlarged, and a set of fender flare extensions cover them and add an aggressive look. The front bumper features a quartet of Baja Designs XL Laser pods and a Warn winch mounted inside. The tow hooks and grille inserts are painted in bronze to match the woodgrain decal stripe.

The roof is Rhino-lined white to match the mirror caps and accent striping on the woodgrain decal, but also features two interesting additions. First is the trio of TYRI V12 LED light bars for additional forward nighttime vision, but the one that grabs your attention is the custom, carbon fiber RedTail Overland Skyloft rooftop tent. It’s a climate-controlled escape that has its own air conditioning system, but entry is done through the rear doors of the Wagoneer, as you need the floor space to climb up through the roof. There is an exterior step that doubles as a small table that comes down the side of this vintage-inspired SUV.

The interior features custom cloth and Tupelo leather seats designed by Kiel James Patrick. The New England–inspired inserts feature various iconic and classic Jeeps, which you’ll also find on the cloth pillow cases and picnic throw, to go along with the vintage set of luggage cases and plants in the cup holders. Otherwise, the retro-inspired Vactioneer is powered by the very modern 3.0-liter twin turbo Hurricane 510 pushing 510 hp, and 500 lb-ft of torque through the Torqueflite eight-speed automatic and those 35-inch tires.
