Bryan Adams Announces Big Summer 2023 Tour With Joan Jett

It's a pairing of rock 'n' roll icons this summer, when Bryan Adams and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts team up for Adams' "So Happy It Hurts" tour.

Adams appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night (Jan. 31) where the tour was officially announced along with Adams performing the title track from his 2022 So Happy It Hurts album. You can watch the performance and the announcement down toward the bottom of this post.

So Happy It Hurts has also earned Adams a Grammy nomination, with the artist nominated for the song in the Best Rock Performance category. He'll find out if he can add a Grammy this Sunday (Feb. 5) when the Grammy Awards take place.

Joan Jett, meanwhile, also has an album to support as she issued Changeup last year. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted artist is coming off a year in which she joined Motley Crue and Def Leppard on the big ticket draw "The Stadium Tour."

These new dates with Adams and Jett kick off June 6 in Baltimore, Maryland and will keep the two musicians on the road through an Aug. 3 finale in Seattle. See all of the stops listed below.

Tickets will go on sale this Friday (Feb. 3) at 12PM local time. Check here for availability.

Bryan Adams and Joan Jett Announce Joint Tour

Bryan Adams and Joan Jett  are hitting the road together as part of Adams’ continuing So Happy It Hurts road trip. The joint trek kicks off on June 6 in Baltimore and ends on Aug. 3 in Seattle. You can see the full list of dates below.

Adams released his most recent album,  So Happy It Hurts , in March 2022. He spent much of his time indoors during the coronavirus pandemic writing the 12-track LP, and he's no doubt eager to get back on the road to support it.

"The pandemic and lockdown really brought home the truth that spontaneity can be taken away," Adams said of the title track . "Suddenly all touring stopped, no one could jump in the car and go. The title song 'So Happy It Hurts' is about freedom, autonomy, spontaneity and the thrill of the open road. The album of the same name touches on many of the ephemeral things in life that are really the secret to happiness and, most importantly, human connection."

Jett also released her most recent album with the Blackhearts,  Changeup , in March 2022. The 25-song LP features acoustic versions of several of her most popular songs, including "Cherry Bomb," "Crimson and Clover" and "Bad Reputation." She also embarked on the massive Stadium Tour last summer alongside  Motley Crue , Def Leppard , Poison and Classless Act .

joan jett bryan adams tour setlist

Bryan Adams is continuing to push the best days of our lives well past the “Summer of ’69.” His So Happy It Hurts Tour is extending into its third year in 2024, as the Grammy-winning Canadian singer, songwriter and guitarist will embark on another lap around North America in support of his fifteenth full-length effort, 2022’s So Happy It Hurts .

Although he has been on the road since January 2022, Bryan Adams’ tour setlist has only expanded, as he’s kept up an impressively prolific release schedule. Notably, the tour’s namesake album coincided with his solo performance of Pretty Woman , the 2018 Broadway musical adaptation that he co-wrote, in March 2022. Since then, Adams has released two albums of re-recorded material and three live shows from London’s Royal Albert Hall , in which he played 1983’s Cuts Like a Knife , 1987’s Into the Fire and 1991’s Waking Up the Neighbours in their entirety.

Find an average Bryan Adams setlist below, and shine a light on the multi-platinum artist’s extensive live history before attending the latest leg of the So Happy It Hurts Tour .

About Joan Jett & the Blackhearts

Joan Jett grew up during a time when rock ‘n’ roll was off limits to girls and women, but as a teenager, she promptly blew the door to the boys’ club right off its hinges. After forming her band the Blackhearts in 1979, with whom Jett has become a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, she has had eight platinum and gold albums and nine Top 40 singles, including the classics “Bad Reputation,” “I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll,” “I Hate Myself For Loving You,” and “Crimson and Clover.” With a career that has spanned music, film, television, Broadway, and humanitarianism, Joan Jett remains a potent force and inspiration to generations of fans worldwide.

As a producer, she has overseen seminal albums by Bikini Kill, and the Germs’ LA punk masterpiece ‘GI.’ Jett and co-founder Kenny Laguna (her longtime producer and music partner) founded Blackheart from the trunk of Kenny’s Cadillac after countless rejections from no less than 23 labels. 40 years later, Blackheart is a thriving entertainment company producing music, film and television, and continues to champion emerging bands. Joan Jett and the Blackhearts continue touring the globe with headlining shows alongside fellow rock legends like The Who, Green Day, Heart, and Foo Fighters. After two COVID-19 postponements, the group returned to the road during summer 2022 for The Stadium Tour with Def Leppard, Motley Crue and Poison. ‘Bad Reputation,’ a documentary about Jett’s life, premiered to critical acclaim at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and is now available for streaming.

Bryan Adams and Joan Jett play Amalie Arena in just a couple weeks. If you’re still on the fence and deciding on whether or not to buy tickets, here’s the list of songs Bryan is performing so far on this tour.

There are a handful of seats left starting at about $56, but it looks like they released a bunch of seats side stage that are going for about $75. Be careful though – many are marked “obstructed view.” There are a handful of floor seats together left in Section 6. Otherwise, with the floor it’s all single seats.

Sometimes artists change things up from show to show, but by and large, the songs stay the same. It helps the crew stay ready with lighting and set changes to keep things consistent. The Tampa show at 7:30 on June 21. Here’s the set list so if you don’t want the spoilers, stop right here !

You’re going to hear a lot of Bryan’s ’80s classics throughout the night but he’ll kick off the show with a song from his newest album “So Happy It Hurts.” It’s the album the whole tour is named after. This one was released back in 2021.

Can't Stop This Thing We Started

This one’s one of those often forgotten songs even though it hit #2 in the early 90s.  It got him 2 Grammy nominations too. The song was the 2009 British Columbia Liberal Party campaign’s theme song.

For fans of Bryan’s monster ’80s hits, here’s your first chance to rock out. This song actually had 2 music videos.  This one was shot in Toronto.

Please Forgive Me

Time to slow things down with this 1993 ballad.  That dog that’s in the music video? It wasn’t Bryan’s.  It belonged to the studio owner where Bryan recorded the song. Bryan and the band loved the pup.

Shine A Light

Here comes another one that might not be familiar to you.  It’s from Bryan’s 2019 album.    Ed Sheeran co-wrote this one.

One of Bryan’s signature songs, this one is said to have been influenced by Journey’s hit “Faithfully.”  Bryan was Journey’s opening act at the time in 1983.

It's Only Love

This one features one of my favorite guitar riff openings ever.  It’ll be a super emotional moment with the recent passing of Tina Turner.

You Belong To Love

You’ll hear a Jeff Lynne influence in this one from 2015.

I've Been Looking For You

Another one of Bryan’s more recent releases from “So Happy It Hurts.”

The Only Thing That Looks Good on Me Is You

Back to the 90s for this one.  It hit #1 in Bryan’s home country of Canada but didn’t do as well here in the U.S.  After having so many hits with slow love songs, Bryan returned to his rock sound with this one.

This one was written for the movie Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron . It was a successful hit for Bryan in the Czech Republic and Portugal but U.S. fans might not remember this one. We’ll see.

When You're Gone

This one from the late 90s features Melanie C from The Spice Girls!

(Everything I Do) I Do It For You

The song that was everywhere in the summer of 1991.  It was featured in the movie “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.”

Back To You

This one appeared on the MTV Unplugged album Bryan did back in the late 90s.

18 Til I Die

The title track to Bryan’s 7th studio album. This is another one that did really well in Canada and Europe, but was only moderately successful here in the U.S.

Summer of '69

Are you as surprised as I am this one isn’t finishing the night?  To this day, the meaning of the lyrics is in dispute.  Bryan says it’s about the, uh, position.  Collaborator Jim Vallance disputes that.

Cuts Like A Knife

The music video was one of the most popular ones during the early days of MTV in 1983.  It was filmed in an empty swimming pool in Hollywood.

So Happy It Hurts

Some more new stuff from Bryan.  Bryan described this album as “returning to life” after COVID 19.

The music video for this one was nominated for FIVE MTV Video Music Awards : Best Direction, Best Special Effects, Best Art Direction, Best Editing, and Best Cinematography. But it won none of them!

Straight From The Heart

The night will end on a softer note with two of Bryan’s famous ballads.  This one was really the song that put Bryan on the map in the U.S.

All For Love

Don’t know if Sting and Rod Stewart will be around to help Bryan finish the night, but this one will have the crowd singing along for sure.

Tickets are still available for the show if this setlist inspired you to bust out the credit card. Here are the rest of the shows coming to the Tampa area this year.

Bryan Adams, Joan Jett jolt the pulse of rock 'n' roll at US tour opener

B ALTIMORE – A cheeky video opened Bryan Adams' show that proclaimed him the savior of rock 'n' roll. Out of the darkness, the man himself appeared in a shard of red light to rumble through "Kick Ass," a rowdy rocker true to its title.

The song is from Adams’ 2022 album, "So Happy It Hurts," and confirmed that 40-plus years into his career, the Canadian hitmaker, while maybe not the savior of rock 'n' roll, deserves much applause for keeping its pulse racing.

On Tuesday, Adams landed at Baltimore's CFG Bank Arena for the launch of the So Happy It Hurts tour, which will hit U.S. arenas through August with Joan Jett & The Blackhearts serving as exceptional openers.

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

Adams, 63, and his taut four-piece band including longtime guitarist Keith Scott, began their world voyage in January 2022 with a spate of dates in Asia and Europe. The muscularity that comes with consistent performing was evident in a 100-minute, 23-song set stocked with well-worn chestnuts and a few nods to newer fare.

Bryan Adams reminded fans about 'the great Tina Turner'

Clad in a casual uniform of dark pants and sneakers, Adams roamed the open stage while playing guitar, frequently hopping down to a platform that sported microphone stands at each end to hit every segment of the arena.

Whether rolling through the joyfully swinging "Can't Stop This Thing We Started" or leading the crowd that filled the lower bowl and floor of the venue through fist-pumper "Somebody," Adams proved that songs he tailored for arenas decades ago still resound with a melodic punch.

While guitar crunchers "It's Only Love" – recorded, he reminded, with "the great Tina Turner" – and "The Only Thing That Looks Good On Me is You" rattled appropriately, Adams is also regarded as a bit of a ballad king, and he didn’t disappoint those enamored with his softer contributions.

"Please Forgive Me" and "Here I Am" drew modest cheers, but the indelible piano opening from Gary Breit on "Heaven" prompted an immediate singalong of the first verse. Though Adams happily obliged the crowd their karaoke moment, his own voice soared with its trademark warm gruffness.

What is Bryan Adams' biggest ballad?

Surprisingly, for all of the high-octane offerings - "18 Til I Die" and the fun-but-ridiculously-ubiquitous "Summer of '69" among them – a highlight of the concert was pegged to another slow burner, His 1991 multiplatinum megahit about unyielding devotion, "(Everything I Do) I Do it For You," bears the stain of extreme popularity at proms and weddings, and because the masses love it, it can’t possibly be good, right? Yes, it’s treacly. It’s also sweet, meaningful and on this night, performed with impressive range.

Adams' catalog is unquestionably durable. Who would argue the air guitar joys of the no-frills "Cuts Like a Knife" or "Run to You?"

But even recent offerings, including "I've Been Looking for You" from his current album and the rockabilly shaker "You Belong to Me" from 2015's "Get Up" album, showcased his undiminished ability to fortify the spirit of rock 'n' roll.

Joan Jett & The Blackhearts debut new songs

Also keeping the beat steady was Jett and her Blackhearts, who spent last summer opening for Def Leppard, Motley Crue and Poison on The Stadium Tour.

The seemingly ageless Jett , 64, and her quartet of power rockers, established an assertive vibe with a new song, "Shooting Into Space" from the just-released "Mindsets" EP.

Though it was quickly followed by the Runaways favorite, "Cherry Bomb," Jett's statement that she still isn’t finished creating potent four-on-the-floor rockers was duly noted. Throughout the near-hourlong performance, she and the band slammed out three other new tracks, including the ultra-catchy, guitar-centric single, "If You’re Blue" and, to wrap the set, the saloon singalong "Whiskey Goes Good."

But fans yearning to hear her crushed-gravel voice on longtime classics were sated as well.

A diminutive figure in all-black, including her signature shag hair, Jett slashed at her guitar during "Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah)," loped through the rolling groove of "Fake Friends" and handled a serrated solo on her sizzling cover of Sly and the Family Stone’s original diversity anthem, "Everyday People."

Among the Blackhearts is longtime manager/producer/right hand man Kenny Laguna, who, in addition to playing keyboards and percussion, also acted as narrator as he shared anecdotes in his deep New York accent about the origins of "Fake Friends" (music industry hypocrites) and "Fresh Start" (from Jett's 2018 "Bad Reputation" documentary).

Naturally, "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" required no backstory and fans leapt to their feet to shout along with the jukebox staple.

But Jett wasn't going to end on an obvious note. Instead, she and the Blackhearts amped up the volume to storm through "Crimson & Clover" and "I Hate Myself for Loving You," both songs validating that Jett still possesses plenty of bite.
