I'm really glad I discovered this place! The food was delicious! I had their Philly cheese steak with fries. The sandwich was cooked well and had a nice seasoning. The fries were properly cooked and had great seasoning as well. The service was very friendly! I'll definitely be coming back to try their other items!

Best whole chicken wings around the Tri-state! The Catfish nuggets and fillets are amazing. Can’t go wrong when I order the subs. Super fresh food and the store is alway clean. Best fried fish and chicken place in town. The hush puppies were better than any other place. Livers were crispy and good flavor. The catfish fillet were large and amazing taste. There was somebody ahead of me and I still waited slightly less than 10 minutes, wait was not bad at all for quality of food. Highly recommend to anybody who likes fried fish, hush puppies, tenders, fries, etc...

Food was great. I will tell you this don't come here if you are looking for healthy options there are non. Chicken wings and cat fished fried to perfection and seasoned as well. The service is friendly and welcoming. Keep in mind this is not a sit down joint, it's order your food get your food and get out. Price wise it's decent price and the ambiance as I said before there is none because ur in and out.

Yummy!! First time , won't be my last! Great service! They had a variety of faygos! The fried gizzards hella good! The mild wings were ok. Next time I'll get them without. They are busy, plan ahead or order online or call before you go. So it'll be waiting for you. I'll def will be back!

Ordered CATFISH and got SWAI filets instead. Called and told them they lied about it not being actual catfish. Will never return. Easy way to make money selling shit product instead of what is advertised.

Don't be in a hurry!!! All food is made when you order. I had the gyro lunch special and it still took 20 mins to get. They just opened and looked way understaffed. I should have known by all of the people waiting, this wasn't going to be quick. As far as the food goes, the gyro was a little disappointing, my tomato had a lot of green on it and my pita bread was already in pieces when I opened the container. I will give them another try when I have plenty of time.

Great food. Eat there alot. Last time I was there was unfortunate. There was some young girls with NO home training, cursing and being loud. I felt bad for the older ppl waiting. No one working there asked them to quiet down. It made me uncomfortable. Control your spot.

Journey's gives me my Memphis fish plate 'fix'. My usual order is the lamb gyro plate. My wife loves to catfish fillet plate. Extra hot sauce. Ketchup for the French fries which have some salty dry seasoning and they are delicious. I ordered the three piece wing plate and asked for medium sauce. These were dry but the wings tasted hot fresh with good flavor. Lamb gyro is my favorite dish from Journey's. Would love to see a serrano pepper with it.

Tried this place for the first time and was not disappointed. Got an order of whole wings in mild sauce and a pick two combo (shrimp and whole wings). The crunch and seasoning were perfect with the fried chicken wings. Hit the spot! Definitely worth the bang for your buck if you are looking for spicy wings. Whole wings! Orders also come with fries and a slice a bread. Easy to order on Yelp. We got our meal to go. When we picked up our order, noticed the HUGE selection of cakes. Will have to go back just for the dessert! And they have a wide variety, albeit a bit random, when it comes to food choices--gyros, catfish, Italian beef. And lots of sides like fried zucchini, onion rings, okra, and jalapeño poppers. If you love fried food, Journey Fish & Chicken is the place for you!

Journey is one of our favorite restaurants. The catfish, cod, chicken, gyros. Philly cheesesteak and chicken Philly are all amazing. They are always cooked perfectly and the flavor is awesome. The batter is crispy and well seasoned. We have tried several sides including mushrooms, onion rings, fries, jalapeño poppers, okra and hush puppies. Again, they are delicious and cooked perfectly. We strongly recommend Journey if you are looking for great food for takeout. Great food and awesome service!

This spot is Fire! This is reminds me of NYC because it's just like our local chicken spot. Everything here is good. From Gyros to Chicken wings.

Really good food. Get the catfish and the fried pickle spears. The pickles are a bit pricey but boy are they worth it if you ... like fried pickles. Best fried pickles in town. Wednesday was the first time i had ever heard of this place. I ordered late night around 11:45 pm. The food was hot and fresh!!! ... Tasted amazing! Got 2 of the pick own chicken and fish combo thing- So altogether we had jumbo & med shrimps, catfish nuggets, chicken tenders ... and fries. All of it was pretty good, the fries were a bit underdone with some way soggy or others still 'mushy hard' like. Idid really enjoy the catfish & shrimp best though! I had the Italian Beef and it was AMAZING!! I have been waiting forever for a good Italian Beef in Evansville and I am so glad that we finally have one! Looking forward to trying their catfish!

Revising our review due to quick response from the owner. All in all, the food we ordered was excellent. They're still new so it's understandable that there are still a few things to iron out in terms of the ordering system.

New Journey Fish and Chicken carry-out restaurant brings unique Chicago fare to Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Journey Fish and Chicken recently opened on Green River Road. It is a carry-out-only restaurant with a varied menu of fried chicken, fish and Chicago-style sandwiches and while there are seats for waiting, it has been so busy that owner Mohammad Aburumman suggests calling your order in ahead of time.

Aburumman came to Evansville just to open the shop. His family is originally from Jordan but has lived in Chicago and Indianapolis for many years. His brothers also own restaurants, and he was seeking the right place for his own business.

“I felt one day like driving south to check it out,” he said. “I knew I wanted to open a store. God answered my prayers with this location, and I thought, ‘why not here?’”

He and his family moved down and began putting Journey together last summer. Navigating city codes for restaurants in Evansville is a challenge, and Aburumman credits local restaurateur Dilip Patel with helping get it all into place.

The kitchen is open and visible from the front of the store, which was important to Aburumman.

“I want them to see the grills, the fryer, what I’m doing. I want people to see that I’m sanitizing and that it’s clean,” he said.

Journey is located just down the street from Sam’s Southern Eatery, another restaurant that specializes in large orders of fried chicken and fish, but dig a bit deeper and you'll realize the two couldn’t be more different.

While Sam’s offers Southern items such as Po’boys, gumbo and red beans and rice, Journey is all about Chicago.  

All about it.

Aburumman tried locally-available meats, bread and condiments, but the flavor just wasn’t the same as the Chicago favorites he loved. In pursuit of that authenticity, he brings his products in from the Windy City, even a selection of desserts from Turtle Cheesecake to Strawberry Shortcake.

His sandwiches, in particular, speak of Chicago. The Polish sausage is served on a soft poppyseed bun with mustard, ketchup, relish, onions, banana peppers and hot peppers.

The Italian Beef is made with sliced beef topped with hot or mild giardiniera, and the entire sandwich, bun and all, is dunked in flavorful au-jus. The Philly steaks are made from thin-shaved ribeye steak; a chicken version is available as well. All peppers and onions are sliced fresh by hand.

Journey’s gyros are certainly worth trying. The pita bread is toasted lightly on the griddle, and Aburumman uses a particular Kronos brand gyro meat from Chicago in a blend that is predominately lamb, with only a little beef, for a tender and non-chewy texture. He slices strips from the vertical rotisserie as they brown, then finishes them on the griddle with onion. The sandwich is topped with freshly-sliced tomato, feta cheese, and creamy Greek cucumber sauce with a touch of roasted garlic.

Vegetarians will appreciate the falafel sandwich, made with crunchy fried chick pea patties. 

Fried Fish and Chicken

Diners may choose from a variety of fish, including farm-raised American catfish (filet, steaks or nuggets), cod, whiting, ocean perch, tilapia, oysters and shrimp.

Chicken dishes include whole wings, breast tenders, livers and gizzards. The wings are whole, fresh never-frozen and soak for 48 hours in a special marinade.

All the fried food is hand-breaded and dropped in the fryer when it’s ordered. Right now, three fryers are in use – one for fish, one for chicken and an extra.

This means if it’s busy, you might have to wait for your order, but Aburumman feels that’s better than serving fried food that’s been sitting under a heat lamp, and encourages customers to call their order in ahead. He’s ready to invest in more fryers by New Year's Eve and Superbowl, which he expects to be the busiest days of the year. 

All the fried items are sprinkled with the special house seasoning, which contains ground dehydrated lemons salt, pepper, a touch of sugar and other spices. It complements the crunchy coating very well, with a result a bit like salt and vinegar chips.

Family Free Night

5 p.m. to 8 p.m., cMoe-Family Children's Museum of Evansville, 22 SE Fifth St. Free.

CMoe is hosting a free admission day for families to explore the museum. The last admission is at 7:30 p.m.

cMoe's Countdown to Totality

March 5-April 7, cMoe-Koch Family Children's Museum, 22 SE Fifth St. Cost is included in admission .

This is a month-long lineup of science-focused events and celestial experiences for all family members. These events will feature local storytellers, Evansville's NASA ambassador Mandy Scurry, Mr. Science from "Hooked on Science," themed programming, pop-up activities and more. Check out the museum's website for more information.

Shadow and Light

Through April 12, Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana, 212 Main St .

The Arts Council is hosting a shadow-and-light-themed art exhibit commemorating the upcoming solar eclipse by featuring shadow and light 2D artwork and media.

Etta May & The Southern Fried Chicks

7:30 p.m., Victory Theatre, 600 Main St. Tickets range from $12 to $32.

Known as the "Queen of Southern Sass" and "Polyester Princess," comedian Etta May is stopping in Evansville with appearances by Sonya White and Jodi White.

A Day in the Dark at the Dome

April 5-9, Monastery Immaculate Conception, 802 E. 10th St., Ferdinand, Indiana. Admission is $10.

This four-day weekend is full of special activities and community events that lead up to a silent observation of the total eclipse. Each attendee will get a wristband, water bottle, and glasses. Meals will be available from noon-2 p.m. and 5-7 p.m.

Eclipse Solar-bration

April 5-7, Friday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Old National Events Plaza, 715 Locust St. Free.

This three-day celebration leading up to the eclipse has a little bit of everything with daily Starbucks service starting at 8 a.m., lunch and dinner service, and bar service. Friday will include Bingo and Singo, Saturday will feature live music and cosmic karaoke and Sunday will include live music and trivia.

Gibson County Eclipse Celebration

April 5-8, Gibson County Fairgrounds, 712 N. Embree St. Friday events are free but weekend events are $5 .

This includes four days of celebration with a student art and science fair, live local bands, carnival rides, food trucks, fireworks, eclipse presentations, a beer garden, and a concert featuring "Resurrection – A Journey Tribute" and the Eagles tribute band Hotel California.

Merry Eclipsmas

April 5-8, Santa Claus Museum and Village, 69 Indiana 245, Santa Claus, Indiana. Free.

The Santa Claus Museum and Village will be open for museum tours, writing letters to Santa, visits with Santa, and reindeer games.

7 p.m., Ford Center, 1 SE Martin Luther King Drive. Tickets range from $16 to $35.

Join the Evansville Thunderbolts for Country Night as they take on the Birmingham Bulls. Wear your cowboy boots and flannels and show your country side. The first 500 in the building will receive a coupon for Donato's Pizza.

Black Hole Sun Festival

April 6-8, Vanderburgh County 4-H Center, 201 E. Boonville-New Harmony Road . Free.

This country vibe festival will feature live entertainment, free kids' games, a cornhole tournament, a beer garden, a craft and vendor show, and much more.

Total Solar Eclipse Community Weekend Tour Pass

April 6-7, 401 North Arthur St., New Harmony, Indiana. Admission is $20 for adults, $10 for ages 6-17, free for children under 5.

Nine sites across New Harmony are opening to visitors to maximize seeing the different utopian experiments there. Sites on the tour include the Atheneum Visitors Center, Double Log Cabin, 1830 Owen House, Lichtenberger Building, Community House No. 2, Thrall’s Opera House, Roofless Church, Rapp-Owen Granary, Working Men’s Institute.

Evansville Reptile and Exotics Show

10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Vanderburgh 4-H Center, 201 E. Boonville-New Harmony Road. Tickets are $5, free for kids 4 and under.

This family-friendly event showcases lizards, birds, spiders, turtles, and more. It's also a great place for people to stock up on feeders and supplies for their pets. The Hadi Shrine Clowns will provide balloon animals and entertainment for kids. Food and beverages will be available to purchase on-site.

Eclipse Storytelling with Susan Fowler

Storyteller Susan E. Fowler is sharing eclipse-related stories and activities like crafts and singing.

Eastland Mall has partnered with Explore Evansville for a party for shoppers visiting the area before the big events that happening throughout the community.

Eclipse show

1 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, Koch Immersive Theater and Planetarium, 411 SE Riverside Drive. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for youth and members.

This eclipse-oriented planetarium show demonstrates a simulation of the conditions that produce a solar and lunar eclipse.

Here's a list of events leading up to, and on the day of, the April 8 total eclipse

Leading up to the total eclipse on April 8, Evansville and surrounding cities are hosting events.

Totality begins in Evansville around 2:02 p.m. and will last until 2:05 p.m. that day.

Here's a list of eclipse-related events throughout the Tri-State. We'll be updating throughout the lead-up to the event, so if you'd like to add one, send the information by email to [email protected] .

Evansville total eclipse events

April 7-8, events on Sunday at 2 p.m., and events on Monday start at 11 a.m., Eykamp Hall at 1800 Lincoln Ave . Free.

UE festivities start on Sunday with Astrophysicist and UE alumna Maria Weber giving a keynote called "From Eclipses to Magnetism: The Secret Life of the Sun" where she highlights what to expect ahead of the phenomenon.

Monday's festivities will feature live performances by the UE Pep Band and UE Theatre department, line dancing, and moonwalking sessions, a game zone, corn hole boards, access to sand volleyball and basketball courts, special narrations, and food offerings at the soccer stadium concessions.

Solarpalooza at the University of Southern Indiana

April 7-8, events on Sunday at 7 p.m., and events on Monday start at 10 a.m., 8600 University Blvd. Free.

USI's festivities start on Sunday at the Screaming Eagles arena with Astronaut Joan Higginbotham as she gives her presentation, "Breaking Barriers: An Astronaut’s Inspiring & Winding Road to Space" which focuses on her STS-116 space shuttle mission to the International Space Station, key insights to her successful voyage into space and lessons learned in her inspiring journey.

Events for the next day include hands-on activities, local experts from Mesker Park Zoo, food trucks, and dining, live music, and a live talk with NASA Nutritionist, Dr. Sara R. Zwart who talks about the nutritional aspects of a space flight.

Eastland Mall's Solar Fair 2024

Eastland Mall has partnered with Explore Evansville for a party for shoppers visiting the area before the big events that happening throughout the community.

Total Solar Eclipse at Angel Mounds

April 8, 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., Angel Mounds, 8215 Pollack Ave. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for youth ages 3 to 17, and $4 for seniors .

Angel Mounds invites local watchers to their site specifically designed to align with the sun and moon. They are offering glasses and spectacular views, and talk about how and why the people of the Middle Mississippian culture engineered the mounds centuries ago and what that has to do with the eclipse.

A Multicultural Festival for the Total Eclipse

April 8, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wesselman Woods, 551 Boeke Road. Free.

Wesselman Woods is hosting an eclipse party on the former Par-3 golf course with no obstructed views and loads of space. Grab your blanket and picnic chairs and enjoy activities, musical performances, and food trucks. There will be live music and performances, tai chi, activities, and food trucks.

Pre-Eclipse Extravaganza!

April 6, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Evansville Museum of Arts, History & Science, 411 SE Riverside Drive. Free.

Kick off the eclipse weekend with an event for the whole family with activities, live entertainment, and special guests. They will be hosting a viewing party on April 8 with similar activities.

Downtown Evansville Eclipse Viewing

April 8, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Downtown Evansville. Free.

Riverside Drive will be closed for a viewing party for the once-in-a-lifetime celestial event.

Eclipse from the Ship (aboard LST 325)

April 8, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., LST 325, 840 LST Drive. Tickets are $50 for non-members and $35 for members .

This viewing experience allows you to watch from the water with a VIP event that includes lunch from Pangea Pizzeria from noon to 2 p.m., a pair of viewing glasses, non-acholic drinks, and a guided tour of the ship. The courtyard view is free and open to the public.

Evansville Wartime Museum Eclipse Viewing Party

April 8, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Evansville Wartime Museum, 7503 Petersburg Road. Admission is $20 per car .

The Evansville Museum will be open and offering views for the event.

Evansville-Vanderburgh Public Library: 'Discovering the Eclipse' series

All March and through early April, all events are free and open to the public.

SolarFest offers eclipsed-themed storytime, crafts, science activities, and more at several EVPL locations leading up to the eclipse. They will provide a solar telescope for safe sun viewing and offer information on citizen science and making scientific observations on the day of the eclipse.

The library is bringing in several expert guests for scientific lectures

• March 4 at 11 a.m.: "American Eclipse" by David Baron: Join for a virtual discussion with author David Baron about his book "American Eclipse: A Nation's Epic Race to Catch the Shadow of the Moon and Win the Glory of the World." Registration is required on the library website .
• March 9 at 3 p.m. (EVPL Oaklyn) and March 23 at 11 a.m. (EVPL Central): Total Eclipse of the Sun with NASA Ambassador Amanda Scurry: learn about eclipse science, culture, history, and art with hands-on activities to make the eclipse more special in your backyards.
• March 10 at 2 p.m. (EVPL Central): Eclipses and Humans with USI physics professor Kent Scheller will discuss human perceptions of eclipses in preparation for the upcoming eclipse.

Movie nights

There will be several movie nights dedicated to eclipses and space

• March 13 at 5 p.m. (EVPL West): watch "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" while decorating solar eclipse-themed cookies and learning more about citizen science.
• March 27 at 1:30 p.m. (EVPL East): watch "Apollo 13," the story of the 1970 Lunar Mission whose astronauts overcame an explosion in space.
• April 10 at 4 p.m. (EVPL West): watch "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse", post-eclipse with activities and snacks.

Eclipse Solar-bration

This three-day celebration leading up to the eclipse has a little bit of everything with daily Starbucks service starting at 8 a.m., Lunch and Dinner service, and bar service. Friday will include Bingo and Singo, Saturday will feature live music and cosmic karaoke and Sunday will include live music and trivia.

The Warrick Parks Foundation is hosting its party at the Friedman Park Amphitheater with "rentable" viewing space, food trucks, beer trucks, and live entertainment.

Historic New Harmony offers fun for the whole family including multiple viewing locations, glasses, and activities such as making a horizontal sundial and a pocket solar system.

This includes four days of celebration with a student art and science fair, live local bands, carnival rides, food trucks, fireworks, eclipse presentations, a beer garden, and a concert featuring "Resurrection – A Journey Tribute" and the Eagles tribute band Hotel California.

Dubois County, Indiana eclipse events

This four-day weekend is full of special activities and community events that lead up to a silent observation of the total eclipse. Each attendee will get a wristband, water bottle, and glasses. Meals will be available from noon-2 p.m. and 5-7 p.m.

Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial is partnering with the National Science Foundation to give three days of hands-on activities and space science demonstrations at the park's visitor center. Events include Spacecrafts, a talk on What we've learned from the sun, a star party, and Junior Ranger programs.

April 8, 50 Highway 145 S, Harrisburg, IL Camping opens March 15 and ranges from free to $15

The Shawnee National Forest will be open for camping leading up to the eclipse. The forest is on the path of experiencing the full 4 minutes and 7 seconds of the Eclipse. Camping and walking trails will be open for participants.
