Madrid Tapas Tour Reviews

1.  tapas, taverns & history tour madrid.

  • Duration: 4 hours
  • Departure: C. de la Misericordia, 2, 28013 Madrid
  • Departure Time: 6:30 pm
  • Includes: Small-group tour (maximum 10 guests), food tastings (enough for a full dinner), wine tastings (5 glasses of local wine and drinks), expert local culinary guide, Devouring Madrid guide, packed with all our favorite places to eat and drink in the city

Starting things off on the right foot, we have the Tapas, Taverns & History Tour Madrid . The title sums up this 4-hour tour pretty well, leading you through all kinds of local historical and culinary highlights. As Madrid can get pretty hot, this is a tour that takes place in the afternoon, which is perfect for enjoying some classic Spanish drinks as well!

Limited to just 10 people, this walking tour is much more personal and feels like you’re learning about the city with local friends. Meet up with your guide in central Madrid and start off by walking over to a chill, ambient bar. Here, you’ll get to try a vermouth aperitif that everyone seems to love.

This legendary tavern is deeply connected to the country’s Civil War, and try a tapa dish that’s been served this way for over a century.

After you have a delicious drink and some food in your stomach, it’s time to head off on a 45-minute history walk through the oldest neighborhoods in the city, towards the Royal Palace. Your guide will fill you in on how Madrid started as a quaint village and exploded over the years into an enormous empire.

Now that you’ve walked quite a bit, it’s time to head to the next tapas bar: Mesón del Champiñon. As the name suggests, it’s all about delicious grilled mushrooms, along with some Padrón peppers.

After these treats, head to Plaza Mayor and learn about all kinds of interesting anecdotes and stories that took place here over the centuries.

You’ll walk by Petit Palace Posada del Peine (city’s oldest hotel), Puerta del Sol, and then try signature tapas of gambas al ajillo and wine at La Casa del Abuelo. Meaning “grandfather’s house”, it’s a very homey place that’s been in business for over 100 years.

You’ll then check out Plaza de Santa Ana and learn about the square originally constructed in 1910 during Joseph Bonaparte’s reign. Then, fit your way into Casa Toni which is one of the only traditional tapas places left in the city, where you’ll try all kinds of incredible classic specialties.

Next up, we have a slightly shorter tour which gives you excellent insight into delicious tapas and learn about Spanish cuisine.

The Madrid Tapas and Wine Tasting Tour takes you to various stops comprised of hidden gems, and varied experiences for more of a locals-only take on things. This is a fantastic tour for trying out tapas the way they’re meant to be enjoyed while learning all about them.

Limited to a group size of just 12 people, you’ll have a more intimate experience which is perfect as some of the tapas spots are pretty compact. Whether you’re going alone or with family/a partner, you’re sure to meet some interesting people as well.

Meet your guide in central Madrid (Plaza de Santa Ana) where you’ll all start walking to the first location. As you stroll along, the guide will offer a fascinating commentary about Madrid’s culinary scene, the history of tapas, and more.

Once you get to the Literary Quarter/Barrio de Las Letras, you’ll begin your bar crawl! You’ll visit a total of 4 tapas bars here, with wine tastings at each one. These wines are locally-made from Spanish grapes like tempranillo, malvar, garnacha, and parellada. With each type, you’ll be served a tapa dish made to match them perfectly.

One of the crowd favorites was the Castilian sherry bar, where you’ll learn all about fortified wines that are particularly popular in this area. If you’ve never tried them before, be prepared because you’re going to love them.

The second bar gives speakeasy vibes, as it’s literally hidden behind a store! The third is a bustling, cozy little tavern that’ll transport you back hundreds of years. The fourth is a bit bohemian and mysterious, and has been around for well over a century.

3. Madrid Local Tapas & Wine tour w/ Drinks & Views from a Rooftop

  • Duration: 4.5 hours
  • Departure: Pl. de San Miguel, 7, 28005
  • Departure Time: 11:30 AM, 6:00 PM
  • Includes: Local English-speaking guide, 4 stops of Tapas accompanied by wine, beer or soft drinks, cocktail on a terrace in Madrid in the 6:00PM tour

Have friendly, knowledgeable guides take you through Madrid from a locals’ point-of-view. Their passion for gastronomy and history is contagious, and will surely teach you a thing or two about tapas and Madrid’s rich background.

The Madrid Local Tapas & Wine tour with Drinks & Views from a Rooftop is one of the most comprehensive of its kind, making it quite a popular option.

Take a step back in time to the 17 th century, as you stroll through these historic streets while your guides provide commentary on the incredible architecture that lines them.

Madrid is a city heavily influenced on various cultures of people who moved from other countries to make Spain their home, while still keeping tradition at the forefront of their tapas and wines.

Meet your guide(s) at a central Madrid spot and head straight into the lively bohemian barrio of La Latina. Built on the site of a medieval Islamic fort, it consists of maze-like streets that are packed full of tapas bars, ancient gardens, and local legends.

Stop in front of the Opera House where you’ll hear many intriguing stories about its origins and events that took place here.

Next up is the Chocolatería San Ginés, where you’ll partake in a chocolate tasting and churros! Spanish churros are really something else, especially if your only prior experience with them are those in the US.

After fueling up on these treats, stroll around the center of Madrid as your guide takes you around some of the most important landmarks such as Plaza Mayor and de la Villa. As you see each, you’ll hear about the history about how the Spanish monarchy ruled over the Madrileños for many years.

After this, it’s time to eat some more at Mercado San Miguel, which has been serving hungry guests for over 100 years. Try a few different dishes while learning about the country’s culinary background, important traditions, and how their gourmet markets operated back in the day and presently.

Don’t get too full, because you’re then going to see el Mercado la Cebada local grocery market, and walk through El Rastro, which is the largest flea market in all of Spain! You’ll learn about the rather unpleasant origins of the name, along with its gypsy community background.

4. The Original Madrid Tapas Crawl

  • Duration: 2.5 hours
  • Departure: Calle de José Abascal, 18, Calle de José Abascal, 18, 28003 Madrid
  • Departure Time: 6:30 PM
  • Includes:  Dinner, alcoholic beverages, local guide, suggestions for your days left in town, food and culture tips

Long story short, The Original Madrid Tapas Crawl is a ton of fun, a ton of flavor, and has been operating for many years. This top-rated tour has earned its stars for good reason, traveling to 4 different family-owned businesses with your small group for a customized experience.

If you’re looking for a tour that’s easy to fit into a busy schedule, this 2.5-hour excursion should be at the top of your list!

From even before you meet up with your group and guide, you’ll notice how well-organized and seamless the entire tour is. Meet up right by Alonso Cano subway elevator and make sure that you go with an empty stomach, because the amount of tapas you’re about to try will equal a full meal!

Your guide will lead you to a very non-touristy part of town which offers a more authentically Madrid experience.

You’ll visit 4 different locations, including a market cuisine restaurant with refreshing, cold cerveza, a modern “slow food” tavern, and a bodega that’s over 100 years old!

As you enjoy your drinks and tapas (including Iberian dried meat, seafood, prime extra virgin olive oil, pork belly, Spanish omelet, etc.), your guide will tell you all about the history behind the dishes and each place.

If you’re not a beer fan, you can opt for red or white wine, vermouth, and non-alcoholic options that match well with your tapas. They are also very accommodating to varied diets, intolerances, or allergies to ensure everyone can participate and have a great time.

5. Madrid walking tasting tour with Secret Food Tours

  • Departure: El Oso y el Madroño, Prta del Sol, 1, 28013 Madrid
  • Departure Time: 3:00 PM
  • Includes:  Beverages, food tasting, wine tasting, local guide, snacks, bottled water, alcoholic beverages

This 3-hour tour is a perfect balance of history, modern-day relevance, and Spanish culinary history. The 3-Hour Tapas Secret Food Tour of Madrid w/ Private Tour Option covers so much of Madrid’s culture, with a whopping 8 stops! Make sure to grab your favorite walking shoes because you’re going to be covering quite a bit of land, too!

This is a fantastic tour for all ages, however, it’s important to remember that the drinking age in Spain is 18 and not every child may enjoy the tapas. However, it’s still a fun time for the entire family, for friend groups, couples, and even if you’d like to check it out yourself!

After meeting in central Madrid, head into Sobrino de Botín – the oldest restaurant continuously operating on the planet! That’s right, it originally opened in 1725, essentially making it older than the United States of America!

It was even mentioned in a Hemingway novel, regarding its famous roast suckling pig that you can try on your tour.

Next, head to the Mercado San Miguel, which has also been very popular for years – particularly with tourists. Located very closely is Plaza Mayor, which was once the epicenter of “Madrid Viejo”.

At one time is hosted important executions and bullfights, and today holds much more lighthearted events: Christmas markets and various artisanal souvenirs.

Next, see the Royal Palace of Madrid, which is the official residence of the Spanish royal family and is now used for state ceremonies.

Close by is the practically hidden Chocolatería San Ginés café where you can enjoy some delicious coffee paired with their famously appetizing chocolate. After your treats, head to Puerta del Sol square, which is another vital meeting spot in the city.

The Madrid Evening Tapas Adventure Walking Tour with a Local will show you some local gems and teach you all about the history of the city’s literary quarter.

This 4-hour tour is limited to a maximum of 12 participants, which means you’ll have more attention from your guide and be able to ask questions comfortably. Not to mention, you’ll all be able to fit into these places easier, as some of the bars are pretty limited in seating.

Meet up at Plaza de la Villa, centrally-located for convenience! Your first mission is Mercado San Miguel, which is a very popular local market. Here, you’ll try a vermouth aperitivo, an array of Spanish cheeses, wine, and some of the most delicious olives you’ve ever tasted.

After, you’ll go over to the bustling barrio of La Latina , with maze-like lanes packed with bars offering tasty tapas and craft cocktails. The bar your group will be going to has just 6 tables so there’s definitely high demand (and with good reason!).

Then, head to Plaza Mayor which is also very rich in history and culinary culture. Learn about the events that have taken place in the plaza and enjoy an old tavern’s famous croquettes that’ve been served here for over 100 years. After enjoying these delicious potato treats, you’ll try some local desserts along with some dessert wine!

Madrid Travel Guide

Getting there.

Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas is the main airport of Madrid, which is just 20 minutes or so from the city center or el centro . With 4 different terminals, it comes with quite a bit of shopping and other facilities. You can easily score a flight directly to Madrid from the vast majority of airports around the US as most of the major airlines serve this route.

The main carriers are Iberia , American Airlines, and Delta Airlines. In fact, if you’re flying from NYC or O’Hare in Chicago, you can expect direct flights in the off-season to cost you around 500 bucks!

Getting Around

The metro fares depend on which neighborhood you’re in, however, they’ll pretty consistently range from 1.50 to 2 euros (approx. $1.75 to $2.30). If you plan on using it frequently throughout your visit, you can also opt for a Tourist Card. These are either 1-day, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 7-day quantities. We did the math, and they almost always are more budget-friendly. Just remember that it is open from 6am to 1:30am.

Bus – Available from 6am to 11:30pm, Monday through Friday, and 7am to 11pm on the weekends, the bus also covers a good amount of the city. However, there are also night buses that start at 11:30pm and take over into the late hours! This is perfect if you want to catch a rave, a late-night drink and dinner, or simply want to see the city from a different view.

Taxi – Taxis are always an option, and hailing them off the street is pretty simple. Throughout various tourist destinations, you’ll also often see them lining up just waiting for customers. Remember, that the ones who have lit up green lights on the roofs are those that are available. Try to ride only with the city’s official cabs, which are white with a red diagonal stripe on the sides, along with Madrid’s emblem.

Alternatively, you can use a ride-sharing app. Uber does operate in the city, so this is an option.

Tip: Always make sure that the taximeter is on as soon as your trip starts! Some drivers will keep it off to try and scam some extra cash from you. If your driver doesn’t speak English, you can ask them to turn it on like this: “Disculpe, se puede prender el meter, por favor?”.

Where to Stay

Madrid consists of many different neighborhoods, with quite a few being very attractive for tourists. No matter what your budget is, you’ll realistically find somewhere that works for you.

  • For the luxe and plush, opt for Salamanca . In fact, the neighborhood’s Calle de Serrano is often compared to New York City’s Upper East Side, and referred to as “The Golden Mile”.
  • If you’re on a budget, head to Lavapies or Chueca . Both areas are very affordable, and are easy to navigate by foot.
  • If you’re traveling with children/the entire family, check out Barrio de Las Letras , or Sol-Gran Via . Sol-Gran Via is the area located between Puerta del Sol and Gran Via. This is the center of Madrid’s “cultural spots”. It features all kinds of theaters, boutiques, along with many very important buildings and unique architecture.
  • If you’re planning on going out to bars, clubs, and other nightlife scenes, check out Chueca , or La Latina . Chueca is a lively area full of people from all walks of life, all ages, and interests. The cafes and masterly-crafted cocktails here are incredible. La Latina is also very high-energy, and you’ll find many little markets, tapas bars, and “block parties”.
  • If you’re top priority in Madrid is to try the most delicious food possible, you can stay anywhere in El Centro . This is actually one of the safest, most pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods in the city. Not to mention, the elaborate architecture, palaces, etc. are some of the most impressive in the entire country.

Restaurants and Eating Out

As you can imagine, Madrid has some of the best food in the world. Let’s go ahead and look at some of the city’s top restaurants and eateries.

Saddle – Saddle is absolutely an artistic experience. It’s high-class, very elegant, yet intimate rather than stuffy. By combining modern-day with classic techniques, you’ll find this place to be refined yet varied. All on one floor, you’ll find private rooms and an expansive dining room with beautiful views.

Cruz Blanca de Vallecas – Consistently award-winning, Cruz Blanca de Vallecas offers Spanish food, placing tradition at the forefront of the operation. With international standards, this restaurant es made to make you feel like you’re coming home. Just make sure you book far in advance, as it can be booked up to 3 months at times!

Casa Benigna – If you go to Spain, you have to try paella. It’s just an unspoken rule. For excellent paella, make sure you head to Casa Benigna . The rice-based dish features arroz negro, squid ink, beans, meat, and more.

El Cisne Azul – Located in Chueca, El Cisne Azul is known for their wild mushrooms, with dishes that incorporate them like grilled boletus with foie gras and mushroom carpaccio. If you’re not a fan of mushrooms, you’re in the clear, as they also offer grilled meats and other dishes.

El Meson del Boqueron – El Meson del Boqueron offers basically the best callos a la madrileña we’ve had. With tripe, morcilla, and chorizo, it’s definitely packed with flavor and is perfect for any kind of weather. The restaurant itself is very captivating, with a kind of gothic flair that makes it look like it’s been around for hundreds of years.

Nightlife and Entertainment

Nightlife in Madrid is booming, and you can find everything from a flamenco club to massive electronic music raves.

Fabrik – If you’re looking for said rave, head to Fabrik. This two-floor club has a whopping 7,000-person capacity and a beautiful sound system to accommodate their world-famous DJs. Kapital is located in El Centro, and is legendary throughout all of Europe. The enormous club features 7 floors – each with a different theme. Goya Social Club is a nice alternative if you aren’t ready for 7 floors of partying. It has a capacity of just 200 people, though the more intimate environment is perfect for its house, deep house, tech house, and sometimes techno artists.

Get out of your comfort zone and into a tablao , or flamenco bar. Here, you can see or even participate in dancing flamenco while enjoying some delicious eats and fine drinks. Corral de la Moreria is our top pick, and is one of the oldest tablaos around. Torres Bermejas is another hot choice, with their traditional cuisine and famous flamenco.

For innovative cocktails, look no further than Salmon Guru . It has an interesting name, but even more interesting drinks. The neon décor is very flashy and fun for taking photos. Diego Cabrera owns this one along with Viva Madrid : another one of our favorites. Viva Madrid has an almost opposite take on Salmon Guru, being a historic tavern with classic cocktails. Varsovia Cocktail & Bar is charming, and one of the top picks for a good vermouth and tapas.

No matter where you go in Madrid, you’ll likely be able to find many pretty, outdoor bars and cafes, karaoke bars, and live music.

While many people may think that Madrid is constantly warm, this is not the case at all. Their summers are typically pretty short, hot (around 99 degrees Fahrenheit), and dry. This is great if you aren’t a fan of humidity. However, the wintertime can get very cold and cloudy, dipping down to 23 degrees Fahrenheit at times! Try visiting from late June to late August for the best weather – just remember that most other European countries also have vacation from school at this time and things can get crowded.

Attractions

If you enjoy Mother Nature and serene little getaways, you’ll love Buen Retiro Park and the Crystal Palace. El Parque del Retiro is filled with lush flora, and is preened and maintained wonderfully. Covering over 140 hectares, it will originally made for the Count Duke of Olivares back in the 17 th century! El Palacio de Cristal consists of cast iron and glass, and sits in front of a flowing fountain and reflecting pool. Parques and fountains are plentiful in Madrid however, so you can really take your pick.

Aside from the Prado Museum , Madrid has many other architectural stunners like the Royal Palace and Gardens. Drawing many similarities to Paris Versailles, this palace is still used as the official residence of the king of Spain. Here, you can also catch some artwork by Velazquez, Goya, El Greco, and the rest of the crew. However, all kinds of palaces and interesting architecture covers Madrid.

If you’re a history buff, you have to head over to Puerta del Sol, which is where the old city gate stood. It’s been the center of many important events throughout history, such as the Spanish resistance to Napoleon back in the early 1800’s, and in 1931 when the Second Republic was proclaimed! Today, it has all kinds of fun shops and trendy cafes. If you like wine then be sure to do a wine tasting tour while you are in Madrid .

Once you arrive to your destination, try and walk as much as you can (within reason). Obviously, this is counting on your area being safe to walk around, which all of the neighborhoods we’ve mentioned are. This is the best way to get a feel for the city, and you can see everything up close. Plus, if you ever get tired, Madrid has an excellent public transportation system to help you out.

Try to at least learn Spanish basics. There are tons of great channels on YouTube, and Duolingo is a handy little app to have. If you practice just a few weeks before you go, you should at least be able to speak what’s required.

Make sure to check the restaurants’ meal times, as Spanish meal times are quite a bit different from ours. Lunch usually starts around 2pm, and dinner is served around 9, which is pretty late by most of our standards.

This is what my tour looks like (If you are not too keen on any of the dishes, I always have a plan B): 1) Tour begins in the most popular tavern in Old Madrid sipping on the aperitif of the city, vermouth on tap , which we will pair with olives🍡 and breathtaking croquetas 😋

2) Next, I’ll whisk you off to Madrid’s most beautiful wine bar where we will drink Spain’s finest white wine: Albariño . We will take advantage of the opportunity to taste a special type of tapas called “tostas” .

3) It is now time to go deeper into Old Madrid through its narrow cobblestone streets and make our way to the highest rated restaurant in the neigborhood. We will sit down to cook the famous Presa Iberica on ceramic red hot plates.

Andres

5) To round off the night we will taste the king of all Spanish dessert wines: Pedro Ximenez. The wine will perform a miracle by turning vanilla ice-cream into rum & raisins with a caramel note and a toffee finish. I cannot tell you the brand we will have because it has taken me 20 years to find it.

Tour starts in the city center, in the evening, from Monday to Sunday. It lasts about 3 hours. Minimum age is 21 (exceptions can be made for private groups).

Groups are small, maximum of 10 (private groups can be bigger).

How to get to La Latina

The lively barrio of La Latina lies just under half a mile southwest of Sol Plaza and can be reached on foot in under 10 minutes. La Latina is also very easy to reach by public transport, and you’ve got a couple of metro stations nearby.

Metro Stations near La Latina

If you’re near Sol, take Metro line 1 (the light blue line) and get off at Tirso de Molina, and from there you’ve got a 4-minute stroll to the heart of the action in La Latina.

La Latina Metro station is on line 5 (the green line) and connects the southwest, central Madrid, and northeast areas of the city.

“The best way to know a city is to eat it.”

– Scott Westerfield –

Tapas bars in La Latina

When it comes to tapas bars in La Latina, you’re spoiled for choice. There are literally hundreds of tapas bars and restaurants dotted throughout the barrio and many offer an excellent range of classic Madrileño tapas dishes along with popular national dishes and international fare.

Hotspots for tapas and restaurants in La Latina include;

  • Cava Alta and Cava Baja streets
  • The terraces of Las Vistillas (excellent views)
  • Plaza de los Carros
  • Plaza Puerta de Moros
  • Plaza San Andrés

El Rastro Market – La Latina

El Rastro, or simply ‘Rastro’, is a Sunday flea market that is located along Plaza de Cascorro and Ribera de Curtidores. It offers a wide range of souvenirs, handicrafts, apparel, and fashion items. Once you’re done with a spot of shopping, head to any of the local tapas bars and enjoy a cava, a tinto de verano (red wine with lemonade, ice, and orange or lemon slices), or beer or wine, plus don’t forget to check the menu for some incredible tapas!

A view down a narrow street leading to Plaza Major in central Madrid.

La Latina restaurants visited on this tapas tour:

Restaurante casa amadeo los caracoles.

  • Pl. de Cascorro, 18, 28005 Madrid

One not for the queasy is the famous restaurante Casa Amadeo los Caracoles . This stunning restaurant is run by a spritely 93-year-old proprietor who has served the same specialty house dish for decades: Snails!

Snails are simmered with hunks of meat and chorizo sausage and presented in a raciones serving (larger than tapas) in a piping hot earthenware dish. Other traditional Madrid dishes found here include Chorizo Cocido and Callos, a stew made with tripe and spices.

  • Pl. de la Cebada, 11, 28005 Madrid

Wander through the bustle of Plaza de la Cebada and find solace in a chilled oasis terrace and tapas bar, El Viajero . This place is very lively in the evenings, but during the day is a great tapas bar with an excellent selection of tapas dishes, wines, and cocktails.

Upstairs you’ll find the luscious green terrace area that is overgrown with various plants and greenery. Ideal place for a sundowner or to escape the summer heat. House specialties include their classic tortilla (self titled as ‘la mejor tortilla de Madrid!’), huevos rotos (scrambled eggs), croquetas, and of course patatas bravas (bravitas).

Juna la Loca

  • Pl. de Prta de Moros, 4, 28005 Madrid

While in the funky part of La Latina, it’s well worth checking out the recently refurbished Juna la Loca. This chic tapas bar offers tapas and pintxos dishes within a retro-styled interior. You can relax in the modern decor complete with funky tiling and enjoy sampling the tapas menu while sipping on a beer, wine, or one of the many cocktails on offer.

House specialties include the many Pintxos that change seasonally (Pintxo de jamon de Pato is a favorite), plus you can’t go past Mejillones (mussels) that are available Saturdays and Sundays.

A large dish of seafood stew sits on a table beside a bowl of stew

La Taberna Errante

  • Carrera de San Francisco, 8, 28012 Madrid

Tucked away in the lower corner of La Latina is La Taberna Errante , a small and cozy restaurant and tapas bar with some of the best tapas dishes in Madrid we’ve ever tried (we have tried a lot of them!).

For us, this is the highlight of the tour , it’s a relaxed vibe, nothing too showy, but the food is incredible! And, the friendly staff are happy to recommend dishes based on what is available that day, so don’t be afraid to ask.

Dishes rotate with the seasons, but must-try dishes include the alcachofas de temporada con tartar de gambon ( artichokes with raw shrimp ), carpaccio de pancetta Asada, and the montado de atun mechado (shredded tuna tower).

Taberna Rayuela

  • C. de la Moreria, 8, 28005 Madrid

Take in some of the best views of the Catedral de Santa María la Real de la Almudena

and surrounding mountains of Madrid at the Mirador de Bailén then make your way to the cozy Taberna Rayuela. Tucked away down a side street, this hidden gem of a tapas bar is well worth a visit to sample a selection of classic tapas dishes.

House specialties include Tortilla Espanola and Tuna Tartare, just to name a few. If you’re looking for a more substantial meal, then they offer a very reasonably priced ‘menu del dia’ (menu of the day) during the day.

La Quinteria

  • 10, Cost.ª de San Andrés, 28005 Madrid

Located right on Plaza Paja you’ll find the quaint tapas haunt La Quinteria . Grab a table on the terrace and admire the views and enjoy a good no-frills tapas menu with plenty of good classic tapas dishes on offer.

With such a picturesque plaza, it’s well worth stopping off for a refreshing ‘ tinto de Verano ’, a light summer cocktail made with red wine and soda.

Tostas (grilled bread with toppings) are the house specialty here and you’ll find them topped with everything from Jamón Ibérico to Ensalada Rusa! Other classic Spanish tapas dishes include croquetas (ham and veggie options), and chorizo and salchichon (sausage) from Extremadura.

Tour tip: Take a walk through the beautiful Jardín del Príncipe de Anglona and take a right at Calle De Segovia to get to the next amazing tapas bar!

Restaurante el Madroño

  • Pl. de Prta Cerrada, 7, 28005 Madrid

This colorful and beautifully decorated tavern offers a great range of Madrid-style stews and soups along with plenty of classic tapas options to sample. The entire place is a work of art and with two floors, there’s plenty of seating. The long wooden bar is the perfect perch to enjoy the specialty house liquor called El Madroño .

House tapas dishes include the gambas (shrimp), pork cheeks, Jamón ibérico, and the Pulpo a la Gallega (Galician octopus).

Bar La Campana

  • Calle de Botoneras, 6, 28012 Madrid

Wander around 5 minutes up towards Plaza Major and you’ll find perhaps one of Madrileños’ best-kept secrets , Bar la Campana.

This humble bar doesn’t look like much from the outside, and in fact, you’ll struggle to find a seat inside most hours of the day. But, just as advertised in huge letters on the shopfront windows, you’ll find the very best calamari stuffed bocadillos (rolls) available in Madrid.

Grab a beer or soda and a bocadillo de calamar and wander out into the streets to explore Spain’s most famous historical center, Plaza Major , where you can sit and eat your bocadillo first.

La Latina landmarks and highlights of each tour

The barrio of La Latina is one of the oldest in Madrid and carries with it a rich history, all of which are on display through several historic sites, landmarks, and monuments.

Here are just a few of the things you’ll want to keep an eye out for while on this tapas tour.

  • Garden of the Prince of Anglona (Jardín del Príncipe de Anglona) – Gorgeous 18th century gardens tuccked away in La Latina.
  • Mirador de Bailén – One of the best lookouts for observing the Catedral de Santa María la Real de la Almudena and mountain ranges surrounding Madrid.
  • Mercado de la Cebada – Famous seafood market located in the heart of La Latina
  • El Rastro – La Latina’s lively flea market open on Sundays.
  • Mercado de San Fernando – Bustling food market with plenty of tapas bars and eateries. Open every day except Sunday.
  • Murales “Antigua Tabacalera” – Popular graffiti artworks located beside Embajadores Metro station.
  • Jardines de San Francisco, antigua Dalieda.

Looking for some more tasty tapas recipes?

  • Roasted potatoes with chorizo and thyme - this is simply chorizo, potatoes, onion, and herbs and spices, and simply delicious.
  • Catalan roasted vegetables (escalivada Catalana) - the focus is on eggplant, red bell pepper, and onion, which are simmered down with herbs and spices until they're soft and gooey.
  • Spiced cheese pate (almogrote) - from the Canary Islands, this incredible invention is important for any cheese lover out there.
  • Spanish mussels in a rich tomato sofrito sauce - the sofrito sauce is out again and it also works wonders with mussels.
  • Olive tapenade (vegan recipe) - this is a vegan version of the typical recipe so great to serve at parties or enjoy alone smeared over some bread.
  • Shrimp in a Cava bath (prawns in sparkling wine) - literally shrimp marinated in sparkling wine with a little bit of paprika and salt, then fried and ready to devour.
  • Blue cheese and sherry spread - you only need 2 ingredients to make this but the flavor combo works so well together it tastes much more complex.
  • Anchovy and red pepper (capsicum) spread - this spread has some very bold flavors and colors to boot!

  • Explore La Latina, Madrid's liveliest barrio, Madrid

What you’ll do

You’ll join one of our local Madrid hosts to explore the barrio of La Latina, a neighborhood known for its diversity, an atmosphere of contrasts, and lively personality - which, in a city as vibrant as Madrid is saying something.

Amongst the narrow lanes and medieval streets - the area is actually built on an ancient Islamic fort - are more tapas bars and cantinas than anyone could ever hope for.

You’d be very wrong if you think you’d visit this area and not end up in a tapas bar, sipping an ice-cold mojito or caña (the local measure of beer) with some nibbles at some point.

But of course, there’s more to this character-packed district, and your host can’t wait to share with you the bustling El Rasto flea market (reason enough to time your visit on a Sunday), historic landmarks like San Pedro El Viejo Church, Madrid’s second oldest church which dates back to the 11th century, and the Mercado de la Cebada, a 138-year-old market which has turned from a farmers’ market to a mural splashed hip(ster) venue for clothing, art, and food.

Our tour of Madrid was an unforgettable experience. From the iconic Oso y el Madroño, we explored the city's history and cultural treasures. Mariña's expertise brought landmarks like the grand palace and the breathtaking opera house to life. Her captivating storytelling immersed us in Madrid's past. We enjoyed a visit to a hidden gem—a quaint taverna tucked away in a picturesque corner. It provided a perfect place to relax and savor local flavors. The tour also included a visit to the Museo de Historia de Madrid, deepening our understanding of the city's heritage. This must-do tour combined rich insights, well-chosen locations, and hidden gems. Thanks to Mariña, we left with a newfound appreciation for Madrid and an eagerness to explore more.

Great tour. Very informative and fun. Our guide Gonzala even stopped by a market stand and ordered us mulled wine in a souvenir mug with a sweet treat to enjoy along the journey. We learned so much about this great city. He knew all the best photo locations.

Thanks Patricia for such a fun and memorable tour of Madrid - you've expanded the charm and beauty of Madrid! We had a great day full of laughter and inpiring stories of what makes Madrid the ciry that it is today. You're very knowledgeable and informative about the history and made us love the story of Madrid as a city. We explored various plazas (each with its own charm), wondered at the Royal Palace and Cathedral, heard the history of shops that have been around for centuries, seen the significance of buildings throughout the city, and got good recommendations for good food and experiences to explore further. Thanks for a great day! Would highly recommend for a day filled with happy memories and knowledge about what makes Madrid beautiful as it is.

Cañas en La Latina

The best of the barrios: La Latina

Going out for beers in La Latina is a Madrid tradition

La Latina is Madrid's quintessential neighbourhood for beer on tap, tapas, mojitos and terraces, much to the chagrin of some who live nearby. At weekends it's nearly impossibe to find a spot to squeeze into the jam-packed bars and restaurants to get lunch or dinner, although on workdays it's a regular, everyday part of the city, with locals shopping at the Mercado de la Cebada and kids playing in any of the numerous squares. Don't miss having a look at the beautiful churches and basilicas hidden in the narrow streets.

Restaurants in la latina.

La Musa Latina

La Musa Latina

  • price 1 of 4

After an enforced closure thanks to some overzealous licence enforcing by the city council, La Musa Latina is open once more. The menu has lost a few favourites, such as the selection of tapas, but there's still plenty here to enjoy. The mixed grill and the roasted vegetables make a great combination, plus there are plenty of indulgent desserts to choose from – go for the chocolate brownie. Waiters are super cool but friendly, and the diners are a mixture of the well-heeled and the clubby crowd. Given the choice between this and its sister restaurant in Malasaña, pick this one – it's roomier.

El Viajero

  • Mediterranean
  • price 2 of 4

La Latina scenesters in sideburns and retro couture still flock to this three-storey bar/restaurant famous for its rooftop terraza. The food, a mixed array of Mediterranean dishes and barbecued meats, is delicious, if a little overpriced. The carpaccios are melt-in-the-mouth and the pastas, particularly the taglioni marinera, drip with flavour. Discriminating carnivores love El Viajero for the high-quality, hormone-free Argentine meat, while sweet-tooths rejoice over the scrumptious tiramisu.

El Sobrino de Botín

El Sobrino de Botín

  • 3 out of 5 stars
  • price 3 of 4

The world's oldest restaurant (with a signed Norris McWhirter certificate to prove it) is still coming up with the goods after nearly 300 years. For all its popularity as a tourist destination, its nooks and crannies add up to an atmospheric – if cramped – dining spot. Botín turns out great roasts, including that old Spanish favourite, 'cochinillo' (suckling pig). The 'cordero' (lamb) is also superb, as are the house-named 'almejas' (clams). And, yes, seeing as you asked, Hemingway did come here.

Bars in La Latina

Matritum

  • Bars and pubs

Its name is Latin for 'Madrid', but Matritum has a great selection of tapas and wine from other regions of Spain, most notably Catalonia. Try the 'gambas all cremat' (prawns with burnt garlic) or fabulous canapés such as cabrales cheese with apple compôte or 'sobrasada' – a spicy, spreadable, Mallorcan sausage. The wine list, too, is dominated by Catalan labels, with many notably good bottles from the Penedès region.

La Tournée

Set in the basement of the renowned Teatro La Latina, this place has been given a dreamlike air, complete with a stage curtain and vintage furniture. Food options include salads, muffins, sausage and a variety of cakes. Varied clientele and lots of quality gin and tonics served from after-work hours till closing time.

La Corolla

  • Mezcalerias

A hip bar for whiling away Sundays with a glass of vermouth in hand.

Shopping in La Latina

Mercado de la Cebada

Mercado de la Cebada

  • Markets and fairs

Inspired by the Les Halles de París market in the French capital, and built in 1875, La Cebada – thanks to its proximity to the Puerta de Toledo, one of Madrid's main access points – has been one of the most popular meeting points for Madrid's business- and tradespeople for years. While waiting for a municipal plan to revitalise its business activity, the market has revamped its exterior, covering it in colours and turning it into one of the world's biggest works of street art.

Underground Moda

Underground Moda

  • Second-hand shops

Located in La Latina, Underground is a second-hand clothes shops where you can be nearly sure of finding what you’re looking for among the hippie-style T-shirts, leather jackets, disguises, folk-lore costumes and work uniforms. Here real treasures share the same space as duds, but it’s well worth checking out, even if it’s just for fun. The personal attention given by the owner is one of its strengths.

Guitarrería F Manzanero

Guitarrería F Manzanero

  • Musical instruments

For a real taste of Spanish guitar-making, drop by at this master guitar-maker's shop, which also has a great display of old and rare string instruments. It’s worth visiting the workshop to see how authentic Spanish guitars are crafted. Call first to avoid disappointment.

Nightlife in La Latina

Atenas

A super-cool terraza set in its own small park. The plentiful tables in the front bar are filled by midnight and the overflow swells on to the surrounding gentle slope of grass. With no complaining neighbours to worry about, the crowd can enjoy the easy sounds of Latin house mixed by the DJ long after other terrazas have called it a night. Here you can enjoy a gin and tonic or a relaxing cocktail in the open air without being bothered by the sound of Madrid traffic jams. It’s a haven of peace in the very centre of town.

Marula

This small venue serves as bar, club and live music venue. Tuesday nights are concert nights, and there are late-night jams midweek, but the place really hots up at weekends, attracting DJ sessions from local talent such as Héctor Mingues and Antonio Requena. The summertime terrace is a big pull, filling up by midnight and staying that way. It’s a good place to have the last drinks of the night at its neon-lit bar and stay on dancing till dawn among the young clientele.

Vaova

  • Cocktail bars

A furniture store that is transformed into a stylish cocktail bar at night. On the lower floor, with African decor, you’ll find plenty of the well-to-do sitting on the sofas, enjoying the soft lighting and cocktails at somewhat inflated prices. The chameleon concept is not as amusing as it once was, but the place is still popular.

3. Mercado de la Cebada

The outside of the Mercado de la Cebada

It wouldn’t be a tapas crawl in La Latina without a visit to the neighborhood’s most popular food market, Mercado de la Cebada . The perfect spot to tapas -hop, wander from stall to stall, sampling whatever peaks your interest. Some delicious Galician-style octopus with paprika or a typical bocadillo de calamare s are tapas that you can find here. Plus, the street art and outdoor courtyard is fun to explore on a sunny day.

5. Txirimiri

Bar, Restaurant, Tapas

Tapas

A stones throw away from Juana La Loca is Txirmiri , a Basque-style bar serving up delicious pinchos . Some of the best items on the menu include the grilled foie with fig marmalade and sea salt or the oxtail stew. Regardless if you stand at the bar or eat at one of the tables, the tapas, which in most places are a small portion, are decidedly bigger at this joint.

6. Calle De Cava Baja

Calle Cava Baja

This is a street and not a bar, but it’s certainly a great spot to wander down when doing a tapas crawl. In typical Madrileño fashion, the street is lined for blocks with tapas bars and small restaurants, perfect for eyeing and sampling new foods. Wander in and out of these little bars and order whatever looks good in the glass tapas cases set atop the bar. If you’re full, just people-watch and take in the whole scene.

11 Things to Do in Madrid's La Latina Neighborhood

latin tours madrid

TripSavvy /  Paula Galindo

Built on a medieval Islamic fort, La Latina is one of Madrid's oldest and liveliest neighborhoods. While La Latina is picturesque, with narrow streets lined with tapas bars, restaurants , and plazas punctuated by beautiful churches, this central Madrid neighborhood is modern and bustling, with no shortage of things to do. From the remarkable Goya paintings at San Francisco el Grande Basilica to the crowded El Rastro flea market , you could spend your whole trip to Madrid in the dazzling La Latina.

Eat at the World's Oldest Restaurant

Samuel de Roman / Getty Images

Sobrino de Botín has been serving customers since 1725, without once closing its doors, making it the world's oldest restaurant according to Guinness World Records . The restaurant's original features include its 18th-century interior and the wood-burning oven. Not only does the restaurant earn serious bragging rights for its world record, but it is also one of the best places to eat in Madrid, serving up signature Spanish dishes like suckling pig and Castilian soup. Reservations can be made on the restaurant's website .

Shop at the Mercado de la Cebada

If you want to sample all the delicious flavors Spain has to offer, you can take a whirl around the bustling Mercado de la Cebada, where you'll find food stalls selling fresh fruit and vegetables, cured meats, cheese, wine, sweets, and more. The market originally opened in 1875, but its most recent renovation in 2013 introduced a colorful exterior that is considered a work of public art, topping the market with six colorful domes.

Eat Tapas on Calle Cava Baja

TripSavvy / Paula Galindo

If you're looking for authentic Spanish cuisine, this street is the spot to be. Calle Cava Baja is one of the neighborhood's most famous places to get food and drinks, and you'll immediately understand why once you take in this lively, colorful setting.

Loaded with character, Calle Cava Baja also has plenty of different restaurants suitable for various budgets. Casa Lucas,  for instance, is a highly-regarded wine bar that stays packed until late into the night, and Taberna Txakolina , a Basque-inspired bar, serves immensely addicting  pintxos , or bar snacks.

Step Back in Time at the Iglesia de San Andrés

 Paula Galino / TripSavvy

This landmark church dates back to the 1600s and under its beautiful dome, you'll see stained glass, gold leaf, cherubs, and the tomb of the patron saint of Madrid, San Isidro Labrador. A visit will only take about 15 minutes or so, making it an easy addition to any travel schedule. Afterward, you can take a coffee break in the charming plaza adjacent to the church.

Visit the Basilica de San Francisco El Grande

If the Iglesia de San Andrés is peaceful and intimate, the Basilica de San Francisco El Grande is almost the exact opposite. Walk down Carrera de San Francisco and you will be greeted by this giant basilica that has a remarkably large dome. The main draw here is the massive paintings inside, created by Spanish painters Francisco de Zurbarán and Francisco Goya. However, enjoying street performers and people watching outside are also great ways to spend an afternoon at the Basilica.

Relax in Plaza de la Paja

The name comes from the Spanish word for "straw" ( paja ), which was sold for the mules who pulled carts back in the 13th and 14th centuries when the Plaza de la Paja was one of the city's main marketplaces. However, the shady, picturesque square is more of a peaceful place to take a break from the city these days. Also, the square is home to one of the best dining options around for vegetarians and vegans, Viva Burger .

Shop the El Rastro Market

 TripSavvy / Paula Galindo

El Rastro is Madrid's Sunday morning market and one of the most famous in the whole country. However, El Rastro is more than just a market; it's a day out. With restaurants offering good menus and street performers that entertain the shoppers, you can easily spend your entire Sunday here shopping, eating, and enjoying the day. The market's main street consists mostly of clothing, but if you duck off into the side alleys, you'll find an assortment of antiques and other curios. The market gets quite crowded, which makes it a hotspot for pickpocketers, so keep your valuables tucked away.

Explore the Calle de Segovia

 Paula Galindo / TripSavvy

Madrid's Calle de Segovia is one of the city's oldest streets, running parallel to Campo do Moro and up through La Latina before culminating at Plaza Segovia Nueva. The street is lined with plenty of restaurants and cafés, but one of the best reasons to walk along it are the impressive views of the Segovia Viaduct, an arched bridge that pedestrians can walk across. Be careful while exploring this street, though, as it's very steep.

Visit the San Isidro Museum

This free museum in La Latina pays tribute to San Isidro Labrador, Madrid's patron saint, but the primary focus here is a comprehensive look at the city's history, dating all the way back to prehistoric times. The museum's permanent collection is just 153 pieces, but it offers an interesting look at Madrid's development. Additionally, the courtyard adjacent to the museum is the supposed site of a miracle: According to lore, this is where San Isidro saved his son from drowning when waters rose dangerously high. The site is marked and serves as a focal point for visitors.

Go Out for Beer at Los Barrios

Maskot / Getty Images

Going to the bar, known as el barrio in Madrid, is a time-honored tradition and popular pastime for the locals, and the La Latina neighborhood is home to some of its finest drinking establishments. Before you go out for a night of dancing, consider embracing the Spanish tradition of tapas and beer at one of La Latina's best barrios. La Musa Latina is a typical tapas bar near the Basilica de San Miguel with outdoor seating while Lamiak on Calle Cava Baja is a Basque-style restaurant, popular among locals.

Breathe In Fresh Air at the Garden of the Prince of Anglona

Concepcion AMAT ORTA… / CC BY 3.0 / via Wikimedia Commons

This is a small and hidden gem in the La Latina area, but it's the perfect place to stop when you need a moment to clear your head. The Marquises of La Romana commissioned the garden in the 18th century, and it was updated and renovated in the early 20th century. This 8,610 square foot park is an excellent place to appreciate the city. If you get hungry, you can pop into the  Palacio de Anglona next door, a Madrid-style restaurant that was once an actual palace.

Your tour begins in Spain’s capital of Madrid, a vibrant European city. You’ll be staying at a luxurious hotel in central Madrid. In a marvelously restored historic building from 1883, this charming boutique hotel is sure to delight you. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted warmly and welcomed with a refreshing beverage. The afternoon is at your leisure to begin exploring Madrid. Your boutique hotel offers splendid views of Retiro Park, once a recreation area for the royal family, and is wonderfully situated near many important sights. You could take a short stroll to the park, one of Madrid’s largest green spaces. Then walk slightly further afield to the Cybeles Fountain, an impressive monument dedicated to the Roman goddess of nature. This spectacular fountain was created in 1782 and has become an emblematic symbol of Madrid.

What's Included:

Madrid - Sightseeing and Museum Visits in Madrid

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at your hotel and then begin your discovery of Madrid. Today you’ll have a chance to visit Madrid’s world-famous museums. This tour includes a Madrid Art ticket, which allows you entrance into all of Madrid’s museums. Take advantage of the hotel’s ideal proximity to the city’s two most impressive museums. You are within walking distance to the famous Museo del Prado and the noteworthy Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía. Art lovers will want to spend at least a few hours at the world-class Museo del Prado. At this exceptional museum, you’ll see the greatest works of Spanish masters Goya, Velázquez, and El Greco among others. In addition to the classic masterpieces, the Museo del Prado also boasts modern art’s most important antiwar piece: Picasso’s “Guernica” that depicts the atrocities of the 1937 Spanish Civil War. Those who appreciate contemporary art should visit the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía. The collections begin with art created at the end of the 19th century and continue with art from the post-war period up to postmodernity exhibitions from the 1960s to the 1980s. You’ll definitely want to see the museum’s expansive exhibition of art work by Joan Miró, the most famous of Spanish contemporary artists.

Cordoba - Travel to Cordoba in Southern Spain

Today after breakfast, you’ll take the high-speed train to Cordoba in the Andalusia region. The journey to Cordoba takes less than two hours, yet you’ll feel much further away. With its narrow cobblestone lanes and antique street lamps, Cordoba takes you to another world in a bygone era. The city has a glorious past that dates back to the 10th century. Cordoba was the former capital city of Al Andalus, as the territory of the Muslim empire in Southern Spain was called during the period of Islamic rule. The centerpiece of Cordoba is the Mezquita, the grand mosque, which dominates the city’s maze of medieval streets. After you check into your hotel this afternoon, you will have a unique culinary experience; enjoy a tasting of local olive oils that are the basis of the region’s wonderful cuisine.

Cordoba - Visit Cordoba’s Mezquita; Travel to Seville in the Afternoon

This morning after breakfast you will visit Cordoba’s Mezquita, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Although it was later converted to a cathedral, the Mezquita is a triumphant example of Muslim architecture. This spectacular structure dating back to the 8th century is one of the biggest mosques in the world and the most important Islamic monument in Western Europe. Entrance tickets are included and you may take a self-guided tour. Cordoba has many beautiful corners for you to discover, and you may choose the option of having a private guide show you around the city. One fascinating area is the Juderia—the medieval Jewish quarter that surrounds the Mezquita. In this atmospheric neighborhood, whitewashed buildings flourish with potted plants and vibrant flowers. Narrow lanes lead to small courtyards, hidden architectural gems and ancient synagogues.

In the afternoon, you will board a high-speed train to Seville. The journey takes less than an hour. Today’s capital city of Andalusia, Sevilla is famous for its architectural beauty and vibrant lifestyle. Seville will give you a taste of quintessential Southern Spain—traditional festivals, convivial tapas tours, Flamenco dance, and bullfights are all part of the local culture.

Seville - Walking Tour and Leisure Time in Seville

Savor a generous breakfast at your hotel and then begin your discovery of Seville, one of the gems of Andalusia. This atmospheric city is a delight to explore! You’ll appreciate the lifestyle and culture as much as the history. In Seville, everyday life is theater played out in fashionable streets, stylish bars, and fine restaurants. Even the presentation of food is done with much flair. For instance there is a special art to cutting an Iberian Ham, one of the region’s specialties. On this tour, you’ll have a chance to see a demonstration of ham slicing and sample the delicacy.

Enjoy a guided walking tour through the old town. The two-and-a-half-hour tour takes you through Seville’s Barrio de Santa Cruz, the old Jewish quarter, as well as to important monuments such as the cathedral. Your knowledgeable tour guide will share interesting insights into Seville’s most important sites and can give you the local’s perspective. Be sure to ask for recommendations about where to go for the best tapas. The afternoon is at your leisure to relax or continue sightseeing.

Tonight you’ll have the chance to visit an authentic “tablao Flamenco,” a traditional showroom for Flamenco dance. Intense and dramatic, Flamenco dance displays a feat of incredible technique, rhythm, and emotion. Flamenco owes its cultural heritage to the Andalucia Romani community, who created the quintessential Spanish art form of Flamenco. You can see this wonderful legacy of cultural heritage shine through in the performance. This is an evening that you will never forget!

Granada - Arrive in Granada and Visit the Alhambra Palace

This morning is at your leisure before you take the train from Seville to Granada. The perfect conclusion to your Andalusia tour, Granada was the center of the last Muslim kingdom in the 15th century. The Alhambra was a stronghold of Muslim power until the final Christian Reconquista (Reconquest) of Spain. In addition, Granada has always been a place of cultural diversity. For centuries Christians, Muslims, and Jews as well as the Roma community lived here in harmony. During your stay, you’ll have a chance to see two of Granada’s most interesting ethnic neighborhoods, for a fascinating look into the city’s cultural heritage.

After being transferred from the train station, you’ll check into your hotel. Enjoy the hotel’s delightful atmosphere, an oasis of relaxation in the center of Granada. This afternoon, you’ll have leisure time to begin exploring Granada. Be sure to visit Granada’s beautiful Renaissance cathedral and Capilla Real, the impressive Gothic chapel that is lavishly decorated. Tonight you’ll enjoy a special Andalusian dinner in a romantic setting. The Arabian-influenced meal includes a selection of tapas,  a tasting menu of typical Andalusian dishes and dessert. You may also order wine to accompany your meal for the complete dining experience.

Granada - Visit the Alhambra Palace and Evening Flamenco Performance

After breakfast, you’ll be picked up at your hotel for a visit to the Alhambra Palace, a spectacular UNESCO World Heritage Site. The residential palace of the Nasrids Sultans, the Alhambra exemplifies the splendid civilization of the Moorish kingdom. Located in a spectacular setting surrounded by the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the Alhambra encompasses several royal palaces surrounded by verdant gardens. Your guided tour allows you to skip the tourist lines to enter the palace and takes you inside the Royal Palaces including the palace of Carlos V. You’ll be awestruck by the exquisite Moorish design and ornate details. After seeing the splendid interior, you’ll visit the Generalife Gardens. This lush garden provides a welcome shade on a sunny day. Wandering through the elaborate rows of flowers, greenery, and fountains, offers a wonderful sense of peacefulness. A symbol of Moorish richness, the garden’s complex water system was a feat of engineering when it was created in the 14th century.

After your tour of the Alhambra, you’ll have the afternoon at leisure. You may visit the Albaicín district, the old Arab quarter. This ancient Moorish settlement is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Soak up the atmosphere in this perfectly preserved medieval neighborhood. It’s a wonderful place to take a tour of the tapas bars or to stop for mint tea at a Moroccan tea house. Another fascinating neighborhood is the Sacromonte, Granada’s Romani quarter, built into a hillside that rises above the Albaicín. Wander around to get a taste of this unique and picturesque community. Amidst the humble cave dwellings, you’ll find many Flamenco caves where you can watch the performance at its best. Tonight you will discover the secrets of "tapas." Granada is one of only a few cities in Spain that still offers complimentary tapas worthy of culinary mention. Later in the evening, you’ll be treated to an authentic Flamenco show, the perfect way to conclude your tour of Spain.

Granada - Transfer from Granada to Madrid for Departure Flight

The tour concludes today after breakfast at your hotel. You’ll be provided a private transfer to the train station for your train ride from Granada to Madrid. Then you’ll receive a transfer to the Madrid airport for your return flight home.

About Anitta

Since breaking through in Brazil, GRAMMY-nominated global superstar Anitta has become the leading artist of a new generation of Latin American music.  Anitta’s single, “Envolver” (2022),  became the biggest solo debut by a Brazilian artist in the history of the Spotify Global Chart and broke Anitta’s record by reaching #1 on iTunes in 19 countries. She released her album Versions of Me in April 2022 and went on to earn the highly coveted Best New Artist GRAMMY nomination for the 65th GRAMMY Awards (2023). The 15-track album was released in Spanish, English, and Portuguese and holds the record of biggest streaming week for a Brazilian artist on Spotify. It now has surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify. Anitta is the first Brazilian artist with 35 million monthly listeners in Spotify history and the Brazilian female artist with the most charting songs in Hot 100 history. In 2022 she won a MTV Music Video Award® in the category of “Best Latin” for “Envolver,” further making history and earning her second Guinness World Record as the “first Brazilian solo artist to win the MTV VMA for Best Latin (female).” The win followed an explosive performance by Anitta, who made her VMA broadcast performance debut with “Envolver.”  Starting in 2014, Anitta was named “Best Brazilian Act” at the MTV Europe Music Awards for five consecutive years. Last year, Anitta took home her second MTV Music Video Award® for “Best Latin.” At the forefront of introducing Brazilian Funk to the world, in 2023 Anitta released Funk Generation: A Favela Love Story, featuring the single “Mil Veces,” followed by the release of “BELLAKEO” with Peso Pluma, which is now her highest charting song on the Hot 100. Anitta closed out the year by releasing “Joga pra Lua”, a single with the perfect mix of funk carioca with electronic music. These releases tease what’s to come from her highly anticipated forthcoming album, Funk Generation, which will be released April 26th.
