NSW Tourism Awards winners announced

nsw tourism awards

The state’s peak tourism organisation, NSW Tourism Industry Council, is excited to announce the winners of the prestigious NSW Tourism Awards for 2023.

Held yesterday evening in iconic White Bay Cruise Terminal Sydney, over 500 industry representatives gathered to celebrate these outstanding tourism businesses.

The awards are managed by the NSW Tourism Industry Council powered by Business NSW, the state’s peak business organisation, and supported by the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW.

“The NSW Tourism Awards celebrate those tourism experiences that inspire visitors to #feelnewsouthwales and recognise those businesses who exemplify outstanding tourism experiences,” said Paula Martin, Executive Director, NSW Tourism Industry Council.

“These businesses provide leadership in innovation, marketing and in the delivery of quality products and services. They also advance and promote the NSW and Australian tourism industry through consistent customer service and quality experiences.

“A highlight of this year’s awards program was the high number of first-time entrants (60), many of whom are new businesses to the sector.

“This level of representation from emerging businesses tells us that innovation is alive and well in tourism and we are proud of the resilience of the sector,” Paula Martin said.

Minister for Jobs and Tourism John Graham said it’s an exciting time for visitors in NSW, with domestic and international visitor expenditure in NSW surpassing pre-pandemic levels.

“We know our visitors don’t just want a selfie in front of the Sydney Opera House, they want to be immersed in the culture of the place and to experience what’s happening in and around iconic buildings, secret neighbourhoods, and in our beautiful natural environment.

“Cultural activity is so much of why we love our towns and cities and it’s a big part of what attracts visitors and what keeps them coming back.

“Congratulations to all the winners and the whole hard-working sector.”

Lori Modde, one of the most passionate and hardworking tourism professionals in NSW and ACT was awarded the Dean Gorddard Award for Outstanding Contribution by an Individual to NSW in recognition of her dedication and advocacy for tourism in her State, over the past 18+ years.

Crank It Up Festival, Batemans Bay was the recipient of the Judges’ Tourism Star Award’, a special award to reward their tremendous resilience and innovation, and Mt Hay Retreat, Berry was awarded the Tourism Star Award for Sustainability, to recognise their outstanding efforts and practices in sustainability.

Winners in the designated national award categories will represent NSW at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards to be held in Darwin, 15 March 2023.

Posted by Nichapa Ratchanathammachai | Sep 29, 2023 | Accolades | 0 |

The state’s peak tourism organisation ,   NSW Tourism Industry Council , has announced the finalists for the prestigious NSW Tourism Awards for 2023.

“These awards serve as a tribute to the outstanding accomplishments of the NSW Tourism Industry over the past year and are a celebration of the unwavering dedication and tireless efforts of our tourism operators across NSW”, said Paula Martin, Executive Director of the NSW Tourism Industry Council.

“As an industry, Tourism is in transformation. Business is adapting to new traveller trends for sustainable, authentic and technology driven experiences in an environment that continues to be volatile with rising business costs, red tape and labour shortages.

“It’s truly impressive to see operators rise up to these challenges and craft new and enticing visitor experiences to attract international travel and domestic visitors to their areas.

“On behalf of the NSW Tourism Industry Council I want to congratulate everyone who took the time to enter the awards, acknowledging the fierce competition and the awe-inspiring accomplishments of all finalists.

“These awards celebrate the incredible diversity of the Tourism industry with twenty eight categories recognising winners who have made a difference in areas such as major tourist attraction, accessible tourism, food tourism and eco tourism.

“We look forward to celebrating all our specialities and the reinvigoration of NSW’s tourism sector,” Ms Martin said.

The NSW Tourism Awards 2023 are delivered by the NSW Tourism Industry Council in partnership with the NSW Government and Destination NSW.

The winners of the NSW Tourism Awards will be revealed at a Gala Dinner on November 8, 2023, hosted at White Bay Cruise Terminal, Sydney, and the event promises to be a night to remember.

Untitled design - Oberon

NSW Top Tourism Town Finalist

Welcome to oberon, small tourism town: population of less than 5,000 people, but more than 1,500.

09:00 Mon 29 April - till - 17:00 Mon 13 May.

Members of the public may lodge only one vote for one town in each category. See  Terms & Conditions .

 Oberon, more than you imagine....

With the most spectacular scenery in rural NSW and at the heart of The Tablelands Way experience, Oberon lies on Wiradjuri,  Gundungurra & Duhrug country. The town of Oberon is ideally situated just 3 hours' drive west of Sydney and north of Canberra. Reach the high country, breathe in our fresh mountain air, and know you are truly on top of the plateau with elevations from 300 to 1,360 metres above sea level. Enjoy the cool country lifestyle and four true seasons including intermittent snowfalls. We find many tourists visit again and again, increasing talents such as chefs, artisans and local producers are settling in our district and sharing their craft and knowledge.

Oberon was named in 1863, inspired by Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. Incredible vistas of the region as you enter from either direction give the feel of being in Shakespeare country. Discover more rich history at Oberon’s Museum Precinct. Much of our district is covered by national park, pine forests and agricultural land, so our landscape lends itself to a variety of outdoor activities. Oberon offers many opportunities to reconnect in nature and make lifetime memories such as seasonal mushroom foraging, truffle hunting, bushwalking and birdwatching.

Many visitors come to simply relax in their accommodation and soak up the surrounding landscape. Nothing better than sitting back and enjoying spectacular views from a secluded veranda. During the cooler months you can warm yourself by an open log fire and sample the local wines. Tourists come for our spectacular national parks and tourist attractions such as Jenolan Caves and Mayfield Garden. We have top quality musical and theatre talents appearing at the Malachi Gilmore Hall which is one of the last surviving art deco theatres in Australia, lovingly restored and proudly standing in our main street.

Our heritage is predominantly agriculture and forestry, and these remain the key industries in our area. Fertile grazing produces the region's beef cattle and sheep; one family-run sheep station receiving the honour of the 2nd highest price ever recorded in Australia for a meat sheep. Visitors can taste quality local produce at monthly Farmers Artisan Markets where you can meet friendly locals who will enthusiastically share their own stories of life in Oberon. Tourists are happy to spend their dollars on unique dining and tasting opportunities and the chance to book into one of the interesting workshops run by local experts in their craft. Learn about Oberon’s rich pioneering history and visit one of our 5 Museums in town. If you are lucky to be here on the first Saturday of the month you can visit the Oberon Rail Museum and be treated to a morning or afternoon tea onboard the vintage dining car!

Field to Forest annual Festival is an ideal time to visit, not just for our incredible Autumn colour and temperatures but you will be offered an array of activities, such as guided wild mushroom foraging tours, local tasting experiences and unique truffle hunts. The Producer’s Table is the grand finale event where guests can hear from passionate talented regional producers and sample their food with a 3-course menu cooked by a renowned chef whilst being entertained by carefully sourced musicians. This is a popular sell-out event held at the beautiful Malachi Gilmore Hall bringing people from near and far

Walk or cycle the sealed 6klm historic pioneer rail trail. Stretch your legs on local bushwalks and birdwatch or grab your camera, a locally prepared picnic and drive out to further afield world heritage Kanangra-Boyd National Park. Take a rewarding paddle in your kayak on Lake Oberon, open to anglers all year round for trout fishing. Described by one visitor as having the most spectacular scenery anywhere in NSW, see for yourself and take a drive through our picturesque countryside to nearby surrounding historic villages where you will find delicious country pub lunches. Seek out local vineyards and distilleries, art galleries and open gardens. Or simply picnic by an idyllic riverbank and find solitude in nature.

Oberon is the hidden gem of the Central Tablelands, and these are just some of the attractions to tempt you, so why not stay awhile, book guided tours or self-guide and take in all we have to offer, something to suit everyone. Oberon has a common thread; traditional hospitality is guaranteed.

During your visit be sure to come into Oberon Visitor Information Centre, open daily 9.30am-5pm, where staff will gladly assist with all your enquiries and help you with planning your visit. View our display of merchandise and local produce to perhaps purchase and take ‘a little bit of Oberon’ home with you!

Top Tourism Town Awards 2024

Published on 03 May 2024

Top-Towns-vote-now

Kiama is in the spotlight as a finalist for the 2024 NSW Top Tourism Town Awards and Destination Kiama is rallying locals and visitors to their cause.

The Top Tourism Town Awards showcase the value of tourism to towns and communities across NSW and celebrate our diverse and outstanding regional destinations.

Tourism and Marketing Lead Belinda Williams said the Top Tourism Awards required Destination Kiama to submit a ‘bid’ – a bit like hosting the Olympics (but much cheaper).

“The ‘bid’ includes a detailed application, with an itinerary for a specified target visitor market and a video that encapsulates the essence of the destination,” Ms Williams said.

“Happily, we’re now a finalist in the 5,000 plus population category, a hotly contested group, where we are up against the likes of Orange and Newcastle.”

“This stage is more of a popularity contest, where the public can vote, which counts as 25 per cent of our overall score.”

“So, we’re calling for the support of our residents and visitors alike to share their love for this special place and vote for Kiama.”

Voting is online via the Business NSW website:

https://www.businessnsw.com/events/2024-nsw-top-tourism-town-awards/kiama-finalist

Mayor Neil Reilly has thrown his support behind Kiama’s ‘finals campaign’.

“I’d say this is exciting, but no surprise to anyone who has spent any time here, it’s just further confirmation of what our residents and regular visitors have known for a long time,” Cr Reilly said.

“Kiama holds a special place in the hearts of many people, from all corners of our state, country, and indeed the world, and this recognition underscores that sentiment.”

Voting closes 5pm, Monday 13 May.

Nominations now open for the 2024 Premier’s Export Awards

Published: 1 May 2024

Released by: Department of Enterprise, Investment and Trade, Investment NSW

Nominations are now open for the 2024 Premier’s NSW Export Awards celebrating businesses that are thriving in international markets and showcasing the best of NSW innovation, ingenuity, and quality on the global stage.

Investment NSW Deputy Secretary Katie Knight said NSW exports of goods and services continue to trend upwards, contributing $150 billion to the state’s economy, with trade supporting one in five Australian jobs.

“Businesses which export are a major driver of economic growth, and these awards are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the success of these businesses in strengthening NSW’s position as Australia’s most globally connected economy,” Ms Knight said.

“NSW has leading businesses exporting across a diverse range of sectors and I encourage them to apply and be recognised for the valuable contribution they make to the state’s economy.”

Dianne Tipping, Chair of the Export Council of Australia, said the 2024 Awards will acknowledge outstanding businesses across 13 national categories and five NSW categories.

“NSW exporters are trailblazers in innovation, expanding their reach to new and dynamic markets—from food and beverages to clean technology.

“These prestigious awards serve as a platform to celebrate global success and motivate others to embrace international growth.”

Leading global food business SunRice Group, which has significant manufacturing operations in NSW’s Riverina region, was recognised at last year’s awards in the Agribusiness, Food and Beverages category. CEO Paul Serra said SunRice supplies its products in over 50 countries and is continuing to pursue growth opportunities in international markets.

“SunRice is a great Australian success story – from a single rice mill built in the Riverina over 70 years ago, we now have operations in ten countries and supply our diverse and nutritious food products globally,” Mr Serra said.

“The NSW Premier’s Export Awards are a fantastic opportunity for businesses to be recognised for the work they’re doing on the world stage. We were delighted to be recognised at last year’s awards in a strong field of NSW exporters. There’s plenty of NSW businesses out there working across numerous industries that are demonstrating the value of exporting, and these awards are a great platform for their stories to be heard.”

Nominations for the Premier’s NSW Export Awards close on Friday 14 June 2024.  Finalists are expected to be announced in September leading up to the awards ceremony on Friday 11 October 2024. The theme for the 2024 NSW Export Awards program will be a celebration of NSW’s dynamic export partnership with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The NSW winners of the 13 national categories will automatically progress as finalists to the Australian Export Awards.
