Members of One Direction Reportedly Just Recorded New Music Together

Excuse me???????

Recording artists Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson of One Direction performs onstage during 102.7 KIIS FM’s Jingle Ball 2015 Presented by Capital One at STAPLES CENTER on December 4, 2015 in Los Angeles, California.

Hearts broke around the world when One Direction announced they were going on "hiatus" following their last tour as a band in 2015.

Since then, hopes for a reunion have been rife among fans (hi), hopes which were promptly slashed time after time—like when we thought we would finally get something for their 10-year anniversary in 2020, but all we got was a website full of memories from brighter times.

But now, it's looking like we might be able to hope once more, because a report has emerged that band members Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson recently hopped into the studio with Liam Payne (he of "I used to be in 1D, now I'm free" fame).

Sources told The Sun that, while Payne was working on his second solo studio album in Los Angeles, his former bandmates came to hang out or jam or something, and ended up contributing vocals to one of the songs.

"Liam is great pals with Niall and Louis, so loved catching up with them while they were all in L.A.," an insider said.

"Being in the studio together felt natural, so they all jumped on a track.

"It was second nature to them singing together and felt like old times. They had a right laugh.

"Producers are hoping Liam includes it on his finished album, fans will love it."

"Love" is putting it mildly, if you ask me.

News of Payne's upcoming album comes amid what sounds like a happier season for the singer, who recently revealed that he is "over 100 days" sober.

"I feel amazing. I feel really, really good," he told iFL TV . "The support from the fans and everything has been really, really good, so I'm super happy."

Of course, those with a soft spot for former band members Harry Styles and Zayn Malik will be disappointed to hear that they were not included in the mini reunion, but here's hoping all five boys are thriving on whichever path they choose.

This is why One Direction fans think a reunion could be on the horizon

By Olivia McCrea-Hedley

Why One Direction fans think the band is getting back together

There are those moments in life that you’ll never forget: your first day at school; the first time you fell in love; your first heartbreak
and then, perhaps the worst one of all. That fateful day in 2016, when One Direction announced that they were going on a “hiatus”. Cue seven long years of fans waiting, hoping and looking for clues to indicate that there’s a reunion on the horizon.

And now – perhaps, maybe, possibly – fans might be onto something. Twitter and TikTok and virtually every other form of social media is full of theories pointing towards Niall Horan, Harry Styles , Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and even Zayn Malik coming back together as a five. Is the One Direction reunion finally happening? Let’s take a look at what fans have come up with so far.

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

Harry Styles teases extra One Direction songs during his recent Love On Tour shows

Even if you’re not a 1D fan (but seriously, who isn’t), if you have access to the internet then it’s near-impossible that you haven’t had videos of Styles’ world tour plastered across your social media feeds at some point since it began in September 2021 (the final performance is in July). And, if you’ve been paying attention, you’ll know that he’s honoured the band by performing his (slightly remixed) version of their smash debut single What Makes You Beautiful at all of his shows. However, recently Styles has added a couple more 1D tracks to his setlist, teasing Best Song Ever at his Edinburgh show in May and performing Stockholm Syndrome in Denmark in May and on his second night at Wembley Stadium in June. As he prepares to wrap up his two-year tour, could this be a sign that he’s nostalgic for the old days?

Louis tomlinson’s new documentary provides an insight into life in the band – and a mini 1d reunion.

Back in March, Tomlinson released documentary All Of Those Voices , which follows his life since the band parted ways in 2016. While the film mainly focuses on Tomlinson’s journey as a solo artist, it offers previously unseen videos of the band as he reflects on their time as a group – which has sent fans into a frenzy as they enjoy the new footage. Plus, Liam Payne turned up to the premiere to support his former bandmate, where he acknowledged the existing friendship between the group in a red-carpet interview: “All of the boys have been there for me,” he said. “I’ve suffered a bit of a dark time in my life at the moment. Honestly, I wouldn’t be here without the boys.”

His appearance also prompted a public thank-you from Tomlinson, who tweeted:

The One Direction group chat is alive and well

Yes, you read that right. The boys are talking and we have several accounts to prove it. During an interview in May, Payne confirmed that they have “started a new group chat”, and in the same month, Horan confirmed that it’s popping off. “We’ve had three or four group chats,” he told E! “Some of them have been more quiet than others. This new one is definitely louder than most, and it’s been great I’m sure if I had a look at my phone in a few minutes I’d see some messages.” While neither confirmed whether all five original members are in the GC, it’s clear they all have a lot to say.

Louis gives Zayn Malik’s latest venture the thumbs-up

Since Malik left the group in 2015, he’s distanced himself from his time in the band, pursuing a career as a solo artist. In 2018, he confirmed that he no longer had a relationship with his former bandmates, telling British Vogue that “I ain't spoke to any of them for a long time, to be honest with you.” But have things changed? In 2022, Malik posted a black-and-white clip of him singing the band’s Night Changes , and an Instagram post from 14 June showing Malik in the recording studio was “liked” by Tomlinson – which didn’t go unnoticed by fans.

They’ve been back in the studio

That’s right, in May, The Sun reported that Horan and Tomlinson were seen at an LA studio, joining Payne, who was there recording his second album. During the reported 30-hour session, the trio are said to have recorded a song together. An anonymous source has said: “Liam is great pals with Niall and Louis, so loved catching up with them while they were all in LA. Being in the studio together felt natural, so they all jumped on a track.” That’s two out of three, then.

So, is the reunion actually going to happen?

The signs are all there, but in truth, nobody can say for sure. In a recent interview with Zane Lowe, Horan said of a band reunion: “The conversation hasn’t happened.” He continued: “God knows whether it ends up being – it could be like the Friends reunion, it could be a whole tour. God knows what it is, but no, it hasn’t been spoken about.”

We know that solo projects are still on the horizon – Zayn and Payne are in the studio, Horan’s just released an album, Tomlinson is on tour this summer and while Grammy winner Styles is about to say goodbye to his two-year tour, there are no signs of his solo career coming to a halt just yet. But , if Styles’ appearance on the final episode of James Corden’s The Late Late Show in April is anything to go by, there might still be hope. Speaking of a potential reunion, styles said, “I would never say never to that. I think if there was a time where we all felt like that was what we wanted to do then I don’t see why we wouldn’t.” So maybe we shouldn’t write off a One Direction reunion just yet.

Niall Horan announces 'The Show' 2024 World Tour

The Directioners are still hopeful that they will see the boys—Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik—reunite. While the hope is still alive, the boys, after their unfortunate split in 2015, went on to have solo careers. Harry, Niall, and Louis have been constants in releasing music among the boys.

After the lull that ‘Heartbreak Weather’ was in 2020, Niall Horan is coming back with a bang after three years with ‘The Show.’ He announced the album in February 2023 and released the first single from the album, ‘Heaven,’ on February 17, 2023, with a link to pre-book the album. Now, the One Direction crooner has announced that he will hit the road with the new album.

In 2020, with Lewis Capaldi, Niall Horan wanted to hit the road with his album, ‘Heartbreak Weather.’ Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, Niall could not do that. Now, after three years, the HoranDogs will see their favorite artist in their city touring with his new album ‘The Show,’ which will be released on June 9, 2023.

In a statement, Niall Horan said, “There’s nothing better than watching the crowd sing back to you with all that emotion on their faces and knowing that they’re attaching the song to something meaningful in their own lives. To me, that’s always the greatest thing that can ever come from songwriting.”

The ‘Heaven’ singer will commence his US leg of the tour on May 29, 2024, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and end it on July 31 in Phoenix. In between, he will stop to play at venues like Madison Square Garden, the Kia Forum, and cities including Buffalo, Nashville, Cincinnati, and more.

Niall Horan reacts to Harry Styles' 'never say never' comment

Harry Styles appeared on the finale of ‘The Late Late Show’ with James Corden. During the ‘Spill Your Guts or Eat Guts’ segment, Styles read the question of whether there will be a One Direction reunion. The Grammy-winning artist said, “I fear that it’s not a yes or no question. I think I would never say never to that. If there was a time when we wanted to do it, I don’t see why we wouldn’t.”

During an interview with ET Canada, Niall Horan responded to Harry’s comment about the reunion. He said, “I agree with Harry. Same thing as he said.” Horan continued, “I don’t know anything about it; there hasn’t been a conversation. And I’m sure if there ever is one, you’ll know about it. And that’s kind of the answer every time.”

one direction reunion world tour

The sisters of two One Direction members have called for the band to reunite, igniting hope in the Directioner fandom.

Fans have longed to see Harry, Niall, Louis, Liam, and Zayn back on stage together since the band broke up in 2016, following Zayn ’s exit in 2015.

In 2017, Harry Styles explained why they broke up, telling Rolling Stone: “I didn’t want to exhaust our fan base.

“If you’re shortsighted, you can think, ‘Let’s just keep touring,’ but we all thought too much of the group than to let that happen. You realise you’re exhausted and you don’t want to drain people’s belief in you.”

The boyband members have since been busy pursuing solo careers, with Styles currently touring the world and Niall Horan gearing up to release a new album in June.

Liam Payne recently revealed he’s recording a new album, while Louis Tomlinson will embark on a world tour next week.

Now, the band’s family members have sparked hope that a reunion could be on the way.

Louis Tomlinson ’s sister, Lottie Tomlinson, and Liam Payne ’s sister, Ruth Gibbons, both shared the same meme of a man holding a sign that reads “I want a One Direction reunion,” as did the band’s former hairstylist, Lou Teasdale.

Fans were thrilled to see the sisters talk about the band, with many hoping their posts were a sign of things to come.

Styles further stirred One Direction reunion rumours this week, when he performed the band’s song Stockholm Syndrome at his solo show in Denmark.

He also teased fans by beginning to sing Best Song Ever, before actually singing another 1D hit, What Makes You Beautiful.

Fans are further convinced that a reunion could be on the cards due to Payne revealing that the band has a new group chat.

Payne was being interviewed by Delicious TV’s Derek Chisora ringside at KSI and Joe Fournier’s fight when he dropped the bombshell.

When asked “when are we going to see the band back together?" Payne responded: "I don’t know, but we just started a new group chat, so that’s something."

Although they may be separate events, pieced together they’re enough to convince Directioners that they’re getting a One Direction tour in the near future. Watch this space.

One Direction Reunion: We Rank the Boys’ Chances of Getting Back Together

When the guys in One Direction teased that they were doing something special to celebrate the group’s 10th anniversary this month, fans around the world started speculating that it was a big reunion announcement. Instead, the group announced that they would be releasing a trove of archival content , including music videos, artwork, and behind-the-scenes footage that highlights their time together. Hopes for a new album or a reunion tour ( à la the Spice Girls ) were quickly dashed.

Still, while Harry, Louis, Liam, Niall, and Zayn won’t be appearing together onstage anytime soon, Directioners haven’t given up hope for a reunion, whether as a one-off single release or a one-night-only concert (like Harry did to celebrate the release of his album, Fine Line , last December ).

“I don’t actually think that fans necessarily want a reunion album or music, more so a tour or to just see them together again,” says Ella Dunham, the 22-year-old co-founder of the @1Dneews Twitter account . “I think, individually, they have strayed so far from their original sound as a boy band that many fans would feel uncomfortable seeing them have to change their own style to go back to that ‘boy band’ feel they had. If new music was in the cards [though],” Dunham says, “it would be interesting to see what type of music was produced.”

Dunham has a point about the boys outgrowing their boy-band ways, but part of the fun of celebrating #10YearsOf1D on social media and IRL is wondering “Will they or won’t they?” and dreaming up what it would look like if they did reunite. The boys themselves have even weighed in, and they don’t seem sure of when a reunion would happen or what it would consist of — but none of them have totally ruled out a return either.

With that in mind, we’ve put on our best Vegas-oddsmakers hats to calculate the chances of One Direction getting back together. Our rankings are based on the willingness of each member to participate (as vocalized in interviews and on social media) and where they are at in the current moment with their solo careers and personal lives. Below, in no particular order, are our findings:

Editor’s picks

The 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history, every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term.

liam one direction reunion

We’re kicking off our list with Liam, who’s been the most vocal about getting the boys back together. In a recent interview just this past May , the singer said he was “hopeful” about a reunion, adding, “I’m starting to think it’s gonna happen at some point. So it’s exciting.”

Though each of the guys have released music on their own, Liam could be ready to step back into the group. His solo career started off super promising with the R&B hit “ Strip That Down ” (featuring Quavo). Since then, Daddy Directioner has stripped down himself, for a sultry Hugo Boss underwear ad that even had his mom calling him in mock horror . The provocative pics garnered plenty of attention for Liam, but his music unfortunately hasn’t made the same impact.

Liam’s oft-delayed debut album was finally released last year but failed to make a dent on the charts (it barely made the Top 20 in the U.K. and debuted at number 111 in the U.S.). It was the lowest-charting debut album from any 1D member, though it had less to do with the songs — the synth-y, Ryan Tedder-produced “ Say It All ” deserved to be a single — and more with the timing. The album had been in development for three years before it finally came out.

On a personal note, Liam has been keeping in touch with Harry, Louis, and Niall recently, which makes the chances of a One Direction reunion actually seem pretty possible. He joined Niall for an Instagram Live chat in April, where the two confirmed that the four members have a regular Whatsapp thread going on. In another IG Live, this time with his “ Midnight ” collaborator Alesso, Liam revealed that the guys were trying to arrange a group call to discuss reunion plans (though he also admitted to being told off by Louis for “revealing too much”). And just last month, Liam teased fans with a TikTok video of him FaceTiming Harry, though the video cuts off just after Harry (listed as “H” in Liam’s phone) picks up. Was it just a friendly catch-up call, or is Liam setting the stage for something bigger?

Liam has always assumed a leadership role, both in terms of writing a number of the band’s songs, but also acting as the de facto spokesperson for the group in a number of interviews. If there’s a reunion happening, you’re likely to hear about it from Liam first.

Chances of joining a 1D reunion: 80%

Niall horan.

niall one direction reunion

Niall released his sophomore album, Heartbreak Weather , back in March, and had announced dates for a world tour. But the album came out just as COVID-19 was turning into a full-fledged global pandemic, and promotion for the album stalled. Weeks later, he announced that the tour was canceled. And while Harry was able to push his tour back to 2021, Niall has yet to announce makeup dates, leading fans to believe the tour may have been canceled indefinitely. With his album promotion cycle over and no tour in sight, it just might be enough to convince Niall to join the rest of the guys for a (virtual?) reunion soon.

Flashback: Fans Surprise One Direction During 2014 Milan Show

One direction announce 10th anniversary plans: new site, archives and rarities.

That being said, Niall has arguably had one of the most successful solo careers from the group (aside from Harry), with a Number One song on pop radio (“ Slow Hands ”) and well-received collaborations with Maren Morris, Julia Michaels, and Ashe. In our opinion, Heartbreak Weather was also one of the most cohesive and melodic new releases of the year. If 1D were to record another album, Niall’s solo pop-rock style could actually be one direction the group moves toward (no pun intended). They’ve teased a similar sound with songs like “ Story of My Life ” and “ Fool’s Gold ” (the latter of which Niall covered on his Flicker World Tour).

Niall has commented on reunion rumors before, telling an interviewer this past May that “we’ve been chatting about it, little bits and pieces that we can do.” Still, he added, “[there’s been] nothing in terms of getting the band back together, so for now, no.” Niall always openly talks about 1D but is a little more neutral on a reunion compared to Liam or Louis. His recent quotes make it seem like he wants a reunion, but it’s not going to happen as soon as fans think.

Chances of joining a 1D reunion: 60%

Louis tomlinson.

louis one direction reunion

Louis recently announced that he was leaving Syco, the label he’s called home since the start of One Direction. As a free agent, now’s the perfect time for him to revisit the possibility of a reunion. Louis also admitted in an interview that he was taken aback when the group decided to go on hiatus, proving that he wasn’t exactly ready for 1D to end in the first place. “It surprised me to a certain degree, so I didn’t have any plan in place or anything like that,” he said.

Though he’s released a handful of solid singles (the Bebe Rexha-featuring “ Back to You ” was an underrated gem), Louis’ songs haven’t quite lit up the charts like some of the other members. He finally released his debut album, Walls , at the beginning of the year — the album “wistfully brings to mind One Direction’s glory days,” read the Rolling Stone review — and proved that if the group were to release new music, the frequent songwriter on the boy band’s tracks could still create bangers that harness their signature sound. Louis also had a tour in the books that was postponed until 2021 because of the pandemic, which pushes any possible 1D reunion even further back.

Outside of music (kind of), he’s found success again back on reality TV, as a judge on the U.K. version of The X-Factor (the same show where One Direction got their start). Out of everyone, he’s been the most connected to his reality-show roots, and seems most likely to assemble the guys together again for a nostalgic comeback.

Though he didn’t address a reunion specifically, Louis definitely still holds a soft spot for the group. “I fucking love the boys, and I love everything we’ve done together,” he told Rolling Stone this year . “I still miss my time with them.”

Chances of joining a 1D reunion: 75%

Harry styles.

harry styles one direction reunion

Harry’s career has soared since the band disbanded in 2016. Aside from two critically-acclaimed albums, Harry has also appeared in campaigns for Gucci, while establishing himself as the reigning pop prince of the music world (sorry Bieber).

His latest album, Fine Line , was released in December and continues to hold strong on the charts, with the most recent single, “ Watermelon Sugar, ” making a serious case for “Song of the Summer” honors. And though his Love on Tour was postponed due to COVID-19, Harry has already rescheduled dates for next summer — which doesn’t leave a lot of room for a reunion.

Harry has also made moves in Hollywood, with a well-received turn in Dunkirk . He was also rumored to be up for the role of Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid movie and reportedly auditioned to play Elvis in Baz Luhrman’s upcoming biopic.

“I think Niall, Liam, and Louis are most eager to reunite,” says Dunham, “[but] Harry’s solo career has been so astronomically successful (and so different to the 1D era) that I can’t see it would be as beneficial to him as the other members.”

Still, we wouldn’t count Harry out of a reunion entirely. While some artists are eager to shed their boy-band roots ( ahem , Justin Timberlake), Harry has consistently covered One Direction songs on his tours, including a surprise performance of “What Makes You Beautiful” during his one-night-only show in L.A. to promote Fine Line last year. Add the fact that he’s on this not-so-secret 1D group text and, well, to quote one of his lyrics, it may be time to “step [back] into the light.” As he told Rolling Stone in 2019 , “I don’t think I’d ever say I’d never do it again, because I don’t feel that way. If there’s a time when we all really want to do it, that’s the only time for us to do it, because I don’t think it should be about anything else other than the fact that we’re all like, ‘Hey, this was really fun. We should do this again.'”

Chances of joining a 1D reunion: 50%

We’re including Zayn on this list because it wouldn’t be a true One Direction reunion without him, and frankly, Zayn had some of the best features on the groups’ albums (that high note he hits in “ Steal My Girl” still gives us all the gooseys, and “ Night Changes ” would not have been as strong of a song without his heartfelt lines in it). That being said, Zayn seems like he’s moved on completely from the group that gave him his start, having largely avoided any mentions of 1D or his fellow members in the years since he left the group. There’s no love lost either. The notoriously soft-spoken singer has generally avoided big interviews, but in a 2015 article , he said, “There was never any room for me to experiment creatively in the band,” and called 1D’s music “generic as fuck.”

Zayn was the first member of One Direction to go solo, and “ Pillowtalk ” will still go down as one of the best debut singles of all time . But his career has gone through peaks and valleys since then — while he had a huge hit with his Taylor Swift duet (“I Don’t Wanna Live Forever,” from the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack ), his sophomore album, Icarus Falls, failed to crack the Top 60 in the U.S. or U.K.

Unlike the other four guys, who are all reportedly working on new music, Zayn hasn’t teased any upcoming projects. The last we heard from Zayn, he was duetting on “ A Whole New World ” with Zhavia for the Aladdin live-action film. He was also on a remix for Shaed’s “ Trampoline ” (a very underrated jam). These one-off song releases give us the impression that he’ll only make music when he feels like it, and only if it’s a song or project he’s truly passionate about. For now, that doesn’t look like it includes another go-around with One Direction.

And while the other four guys left things on a friendly note, Zayn told an interviewer in 2018 that “I didn’t really, like, make any friends from the band. I just didn’t do it. It’s not something that I’m afraid to say.” If he doesn’t think he’s friends with the rest of the guys, then he’s definitely not going to be game for a reunion.

Zayn does have one very important upcoming release: a new baby with Gigi Hadid. The fact that he’s been open about not enjoying his time with One Direction, coupled with his impending fatherhood, makes us feel like Zayn’s chances of returning for a 1D reunion are basically zero.

Chances of joining a 1D reunion: 0%

Of course, circumstances can always change, and for every band that breaks up — like ‘NSync — there’s a band like the Backstreet Boys who are still holding on strong more than 27 years after they debuted. And if there’s one thing we’ve learned from One Direction, it’s that you can never count them out. As the four sang in their final performance before separating, they’ve “ got a whole lot of history ” together, and they can definitely make some more.

Fans remain cautiously optimistic. “As much as my teenage self wants a reunion, it’s good to see them thrive individually,” says Dunham. “The boys have veered so far from the original sound of 1D that it’s important to support their solo albums as much as we would a reunion,” she continues. “I think if fans are pushing a reunion, we should push their solo albums to the same extent. That way, we get the best of both worlds — we get to reminisce on the 1D days, but we’re still supporting them on their individual paths.”

One Direction reunion: All of the signs from the boys so far 👀

We'd love to see the 1D gang back together!

It's been more than 12 years since One Direction formed on The X Factor , turning Harry Styles , Liam Payne , Niall Horan , Louis Tomlinson and former member Zayn Malik into overnight stars. Following Zayn leaving the band in 2015, the remaining members started their hiatus in 2016 - and fans have been calling out for a reunion ever since!

Although fans were hoping for something big to celebrate a decade since the group formed, their 10th anniversary came and went without a reunion in June 2020, however that hasn't dampened our spirits. Join us as we take a look through all of the clues we've had so far pointing towards a potential One Direction reunion...

Has Harry teased a One Direction reunion?

In March 2023, Harry shared an Instagram Story of himself wearing a One Direction T-shirt in a gym. The singer quickly deleted the photo, but that didn't stop fans sharing it widely on social media and speculating that a reunion could be about to happen.

He later told fans at his gig in Auckland: "I guess some of us have secrets! Maybe, maybe like some people, you chose to keep it to yourself and maybe one day, you'll like accidentally post it to your Instagram followers."

What's Liam Payne said about a reunion?

In April 2023, it was reported that Liam was 'desperate' for the One Direction boys to reunite ! Speaking to OK! , a source revealed that following Liam's reunion with Louis at the premiere for his documentary All Of Those Voices, he would love to relaunch his career with a One Direction reunion tour!

They said: "Liam is desperate to get back on the road with the boys. His solo career hasn’t remained as successful as he hoped it would, and work has become stagnant for him.

"In contrast, he can see how well Harry (Styles) is doing and he’d love that level of stardom for himself."

What has Niall Horan said about a reunion?

Niall spoke to Hits Radio in February and when asked about a reunion he said that his answer hadn't changed in about five years. He said: "I don't have any other answer. I've been giving the same answer for about five years." So sadly we might have to wait a bit longer.

Fans were also convinced that Niall and Harry might have had something up their sleeve prior to the release of Niall's third solo album 'The Show' , with many thinking that Harry was going to feature on one (or more) of the tracks. Sadly, this didn't prove to be true, but the evidence did look pretty convincing! Check out all the clues that fans spotted about a Niall and Harry collab !

Is Zayn Malik up for a One Direction reunion?

Although Zayn hasn't commented on a One Direction reunion, in 2022 he shared a couple of versions of some old One Direction songs. In August 2022 Zayn shared an uncaptioned, 30-second video of 'Night Changes' , which got fans very excited.

This followed a video that he shared in June 2022 of himself singing 'You and I'.

Will One Direction reunite on The Late Late Show?

Rumours that the band were set to reunite on James Corden's final episode of The Late Late Show have been circulating, causing excitement among fans. However, the talk show responded to the rumours on Twitter and confirmed that the boys won't be reuniting for the finale.

Referencing a news story about a potential One Direction reunion, a tweet from The Late Late Show's official Twitter account read: 'Nobody loves the boys more than us...but this story just isn't true. What's true is we've got an absolutely brilliant 2 hour finale planned to celebrate 8 years of #LateLateShow at 10pm on April 27th.'

Take a look at the One Direction reunion rumours:

Harry styles talks about a zoom reunion.

In April 2020, as the nation were in lockdown due to the Coronavirus, Harry spoke to SiriusXM Hits 1, jokingly admitting he didn't expect the 1D reunion to be over a Zoom call. He said, "I don't know if a Zoom call is the reunion that we had in mind."

Liam Payne send fans into meltdown

Just days later, Liam Payne sent Directioners into complete meltdown when he revealed a number of emails had been forwarded, admitting it was great for the boys to 'connect' again. Liam said, "We've got a 10-year anniversary coming up so we've all been speaking together a lot over the last few weeks, which has been really nice."

#OneDirectionReunion trends on Twitter

Not long after Liam's interview, eagle-eyed fans noticed Harry, Louis, Liam and Niall had all followed former member Zayn Malik on Twitter, resulting in #OneDirectionReunion to start trending. However, after further inspection, fans were quick to point out that they'd followed Zayn for a while, making it a bit of a false alarm!

Could we be getting new One Direction music?

Also in April, American showbiz site Page Six reported that One Direction could release new music for their 10th anniversary in July 2020, as well as a TV special!

Niall sends fans wild on Instagram Live

During an Instagram Live, Niall teased Directioners by touching his hair when a fan asked him to if the reunion rumours were true. Hmm.

Louis Tomlinson 'tells off' Liam Payne for revealing too much

After Liam got a little excited and started to dish out too much information, the singer revealed during an Instagram Live with Alesso that Louis had 'told him off' for revealing the plans.

Liam Payne hints Zayn Malik is not involved

During the same online chat with Alesso, Liam also seemed to hint that former member Zayn Malik would not be involved in the apparent 2020 reunion, asking Alesso if he would 'join the band' by 'filling in for Zayn'.

Niall Horan shuts down reunion rumours

With July getting closer, Niall Horan broke the hearts of 1D fans across the world in May when he seemingly shut down all talk of a 2020 reunion. Speaking to his friend Jamie Redknapp on Redknapp's Home Fixture, Niall said, "There was a bit of talk about it because in July it's ten years since the band got together, so everyone was waiting to see if anything was going to happen. 'We've been chatting about it, little bits and pieces that we can do, but nothing in terms of getting the band back together, so for now, no."

10th anniversary plans

Despite many holding out for an actual reunion, 1D will be launching a special website called '10 Years of One Direction', which will go active on Thursday 23rd July, the official date of their anniversary. The website will go through the band's amazing career timelines, from meeting on The X Factor, to going their separate ways as solo artists. As well as this, a load of old content will be visible for fans, including archived TV performances, behind-the-scenes videos, music videos and artwork! A special 10-year celebration video will be made for YouTube, which is sure to bring a tear to the eye as it highlights 1D's global success over the last decade.

Let’s face it, the possibility of a One Direction reunion is an idea that every fan has had on their mind since the group called it quits in 2016. Rumors have circulated, of course, but it’s only gossip.

News broke that bandmates Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan , Liam Payne, and Harry Styles decided to “not renew their recording contract” after the fifth member, Zayn Malik, abruptly exited the band in 2015. “My life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined. But, after five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band. I’d like to apologize to the fans if I’ve let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right in my heart,” Malik said in a statement to the group’s official Facebook page. “I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight. I know I have four friends for life in Louis, Liam, Harry and Niall. I know they will continue to be the best band in the world.” But after Styles appeared on James Corden ’s final episode of The Late Late Show in April 2023, rumors began circulating of a possible 1D reunion.

Is One Direction reuniting?

Is One Direction reuniting? Nothing has been confirmed but Harry Styles participated in the very last Spill Your Guts or Eat Your Guts—a popular segment on The Late Late Show With James Corden that asks guests to reveal the answers to hot questions or eat something gross—and teased the possibility of a 1D reunion.

“Yes or no, will there be a One Direction reunion? Will it ever happen?” Styles said, reading the question in the episode that aired on April 27, 2023. “I fear that it’s not a yes or no question. I think I would never say never to that. If there was a time when we wanted to do it, I don’t see why we wouldn’t.”

James Corden, Harry Styles

After The Mirror reported that the boy band’s full lineup was rumored to make an appearance during Corden’s final episode of the show on April 27, the official Late Late Show Twitter account shut down any speculation. “Nobody loves the boys more than us… but this story just isn’t true,” the show’s official account tweeted. “What is true is we’ve got an absolutely brilliant 2-hour finale planned to celebrate 8 years of #LateLateShow at 10 pm on April 27th.”

Late Late Show executive producer Ben Winston went on to reveal that getting the group back together for the show was practically impossible. “I don’t think it was even logistically possible,” he told Metro.co.uk . “I don’t know the ins and outs of their diary. We got a message out early because we saw that bubbling online and a lot of stuff can be said online and it’s taken as fact. The team saw that and we’ve got such a beautiful finale planned, the last thing we wanted was for everyone to be disappointed by our finale.”

Speaking about Styles being one of the last guests, Winston added: “We knew that Harry was coming on at the time, so we didn’t want to say ‘Harry’s coming on’ and then suddenly those rumors go even further. We didn’t want to let anyone down and pretend that [reunion] was happening when it’s not.”

He continued: “James and I have been such massive fans of One Direction since the beginning, I did their music videos and produced their [concert] movie. So I’m a huge One Direction fan and I wouldn’t want to upset any One Direction fans that thought something was happening.” He concluded: “So rather than tease everybody and pretend it was happening to get better ratings, I was pleased we could set the record straight. Some of them still don’t believe us, but we’re really not.”

A year after One Direction split in 2016, Styles debuted as a solo artist with his first single, “Sign of the Times” from his debut self-titled album. Since then, Styles has released two more albums—2019’s  Fine Line  and 2022’s  Harry’s House  (both of which reached number one on the Billboard 200—as well as has won a Grammy for his 2019 single, “Watermelon Sugar.” In an interview with  NPR  in 2020, Styles opened up about his thoughts on fame and meeting his idols. “I think ultimately you meet [other famous people] and you’re kind of in awe of them, but at the same time you get to hang out with them on this human level, where you’re just talking and it’s really amazing,” he said.

“Those are the moments that kind of mean the most because it’s real. And when everything else about being in music goes away, that’s the stuff that I think you end up telling your grandkids. For example, with Stevie, my favorite moments about it aren’t usually the show, it’s the practicing. When we first played together, it was at the Troubadour — famously, where Elton John did his first U.S. show — and it was an amazing moment, but my favorite was soundchecking. It’s like four people in there and just us singing in the empty Troubadour. For me, that’s a moment that I’m going to hold on to.”

Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson of One Direction

Since the second One Direction began their hiatus in 2016, the guys have constantly faced the question, “When will you reunite?” But with the group’s 10-year anniversary coming up in July, that question has become more relevant than ever.

Directioners got perhaps their most promising inklings of a reunion this week, as Niall Horan , Liam Payne , Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson all followed Zayn Malik on Twitter . On top of that, Payne hinted in not one, but two interviews that the guys have been in touch “a lot more at the moment,” as he said on The Late Late Show With James Corden on Monday (April 13).

Whether those conversations include Malik is still unclear, especially because the “Pillowtalk” singer hasn’t said much about the 1D guys in the past couple of years. But with the rest of One Direction all releasing music within the last year, we’ve heard reunion talk from the guys quite a bit since last summer — and with the 10-year anniversary approaching, the comments have become more and more promising.

Everything That Happened Since Zayn Left One Direction: A Timeline

Trending on billboard.

See what Harry, Liam, Louis and Niall have said about reuniting in the past several months below.

Rolling Stone , August 2019: “I don’t think I’d ever say I’d never do it again, because I don’t feel that way. If there’s a time when we all really want to do it, that’s the only time for us to do it, because I don’t think it should be about anything else other than the fact that we’re all like, ‘Hey, this was really fun. We should do this again.’ But until that time, I feel like I’m really enjoying making music and experimenting. I enjoy making music this way too much to see myself doing a full switch, to go back and do that again. Because I also think if we went back to doing things the same way, it wouldn’t be the same, anyway… It’s too important to me to ever be like, ‘Oh, that’s done.’ But if it happens, it will happen for the right reasons.”

KIIS 106.5 , November 2019: “I don’t think I’d ever say never. I definitely never say never. You know it was a massive part of my life and something that we always have. It’s a pretty amazing thing to be part of… If a time comes around when everyone wants to do it. We’re all going on tour but if it works out, we’ll talk about it.”

Heart Breakfast , March 2020: When asked if One Direction would do a five-way video performance like the Backstreet Boys did on the iHeart Living Room Concert For America on March 29, Styles replied, “I mean we’re not working right now, so probably not this second. It’d be an interesting way to do a reunion, for sure.”

SiriusXM , April 2020: In response to a similar question about getting on a Zoom call with the 1D guys, he said, “I don’t know if that’s the reunion that we’ve had in mind. I don’t know if that would be the way to do it. But I’ll have a quick whip-around.”

Harry Styles Earns First Pop Songs No. 1 With 'Adore You,' Becomes Fourth One Direction Member to…

Wired , September 2019: “The truth is, I think it’s a matter of when at the moment. Everyone is super comfortable doing their own thing and everyone’s really happy doing their solo stuff… It’s great to watch everybody else venturing out and doing their own thing. It’s more to do with where some other people in the band’s heads are at with it.”

SiriusXM , September 2019: “I say different times all the time, because [saying] whatever I’m thinking it might happen [at the time]. It’s difficult. I haven’t spoken to Harry in a while, so I don’t really know where his head is at with it. I heard he mentioned it in some sort of magazine thing or whatever the other day, which is cool. I think everybody else has been really outspoken. I think they’re ready to go whenever. Niall was ready the day we decided to stop for a second.”

The Jonathan Ross Show , October 2019: “I feel like everybody outwardly in the press has said something, but we haven’t really spoke as a collective together, so I don’t really know. All I can say is, I don’t think for at least the next two years, it’s going to happen. And I’m tired of saying dates, because people hold you to it… I don’t think [Zayn re-joining] will ever happen. When he left, it wasn’t on great terms… if he didn’t want to be here, then he shouldn’t be here. Which is fine, and he’s doing really well, so I don’t want to mess with his stuff.”

Sunday Brunch , December 2019: “I think at some point we will get back together. I think we will, for sure,” he said. “I don’t know when that is yet but, all I know is there is at least two years while everyone’s just released new music where you have to go and promo and do all of that. So there’s at least two years, I know that much.”

Gulf News , December 2019: “We have been talking a lot more recently and I can’t imagine we wouldn’t finish the story where we did. However, the guys are doing so well individually and they are experiencing new things like film and TV, so it will probably be a little while if it ever happens.”

Liam Payne on How the Industry Has Changed Since His One Direction Days: There's 'More Freedom'

The Sun , April 2020: “We’ve got a ten-year anniversary coming up so we’ve all been speaking together a lot over the last few weeks which has been really nice. To hear a lot of people’s voices and seeing old content and different things that we haven’t seen for a long time or never seen before, it’s very interesting. At the moment I’m not sure what I’m allowed to say. There’s a number of different things that we are all working on to try and make happen and people are forwarding emails around. But more than anything it’s just been a real good time for us to connect together again.”

The Late Late Show with James Corden , April 2020: “I’m not allowed to say too much obviously, because I’d be giving it away. But we’ve been speaking a lot more at the moment. I think we’re all feeling that that 10 year is a very special moment… I had a beautiful FaceTime with Niall, who I hadn’t spoken to in a long time, and speaking with Louis. It’s been really nice, it’s a nice moment.”

1883 Magazine , July 2019: “There’s gotta be [a reunion]! One hundred perfect. As far as I’m concerned, we are all good at doing our individual stuff right now and it’s great for yourself as an individual but the day we do get back together will be a magical day for all of us. I think everyone is in the same boat when it comes to this; it’s inevitable and the question is just when are we going to do it. Now that we are on this break, I can look back and say it was massive but looking from the other side you can see the influence and important. That’s really cool, just seeing our positive influence. We were such a powerhouse. It’s a no-brainer, I’m the first to sign the sheets to get back together.”

The Metro’s Guilty Pleasures , October 2019: “As far as I am concerned, I am happy doing what I am doing. But the day that [a reunion] does happen, and everyone is ready to do it, I am ready.”

Wired , November 2019: Addressing a Google search for “Louis Tomlinson One Direction,” Tomlinson said, “That is the band I am in — was in, whichever way you look at it. Don’t really know what else to say about that good time in me life. Hopefully we come back.”

Louis Tomlinson Postpones International Spring Tour

BBC’s The One Show , January 2020: “We’ve maybe been on a break maybe about four years, and I’m only just getting around to releasing my first album. Fans who follow our every move every day probably feel we’ve been, you know, not a group for a while, but actually to us, we’re only kind of — I know I’m just finding my feet, really. So I think it’ll happen at some point. It would be stupid not to, but we’re just exploring and enjoying ourselves individually.”

The Independent , January 2020: “Truthfully, none of us truly know [if we’ll reform]. I just know what my gut says and my gut says we will get back together at some point. I think it was too magical for all of us to never do it again.”

BBC Breakfast , February 2020: “I’ll give you the answer I give everyone else: It’s inevitable. I don’t know when, we don’t know when. I think we’d be stupid not to get back together. But you don’t know — I’ve only just released my first album.”

Niall Horan

Zach Sang Show , October 2019: “It would be silly not to do it.”

The Telegraph , October 2019: “There was no timeline on the gap. I would have preferred if someone said five years, and it probably will end up something like that. I’m enjoying what I’m doing, but if one of the lads were to pick up the phone and say it’s time, I’d do it.”

Sunrise , December 2019: “No talk of it yet. I’m enjoying what I’m doing now… As of now, no, but if there’s a conversation down the line, let’s go.”

Glass Magazine , February 2020: “Once I’m making music for a long time at a high level, I don’t mind. When everyone is ready to do 1D again, I’ll be here. But at the moment I’m enjoying relative success on my own and it’s been so fun trying something new. Play it by ear and see what happens. I just love music.”

The Mirror , February 2020: “The answer is, we don’t know. We haven’t spoken about it, and you’ll know if we do.”

Niall Horan Calls Taylor Swift 'One of the Greatest Songwriters of Her Generation'

RTÉ Entertainment , February 2020: “We’d be absolutely ridiculous not to reform the band. We haven’t really spoken about the ‘whens’ but we do know we will. We have all said individually that we will and I think it would be stupid if we didn’t.”

The Late Late Show , March 2020: While Horan was hooked up to a lie detector test, James Corden asked “Do you actually think One Direction will get back together?” Horan was quick to say “Yes,” which was detected as true.

The Line of Best Fit , March 2020: “I would hate for people to be like, ‘Here they are coming for the money – because they’ve spent it all.’ I’d hate for people to think of us like that because if we’re doing it [again], we’ll be doing it for the fans and obviously for ourselves too. We came from a reality TV show – people got to see how normal we were on a weekly basis and I think that was half the reason people liked us. Because they were like, ‘Fucking hell, if they can do it, then I can do it.’”

“So if and when we come back, it would be to bring the joy back to people who had missed us… and the fact that we could break the internet with that selfie! It wouldn’t be so much of an ego thing, it would be, ‘F–king hell, let’s do it again.’ That’s how I wanna do it. I wanna do it when everyone is f–king ready.”

“I’m reading a lot of 1D reunion rumours at the moment and no one’s said anything. Or maybe one of the boys has said something like “if and when” and it’s taken as “right, they’re coming back”. So I find myself answering it in a really long-winded way to cover all the ground. But the answer is: we’re all doing our own thing at the minute, but when we’re ready, we’ll let you know.”

May 23, 2023 / 6:14 PM EDT / CBS News

Niall Horan, the former One Direction member, has announced dates for his upcoming "The Show Live on Tour" 2024, which will have shows in North America, Australia, and Europe.

"I am beyond thrilled to announce The Show Live On Tour 2024!," the Irish singer said on Instagram . " It's been far too long and I can't wait to see your beautiful faces."

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Niall Horan (@niallhoran)

Tickets for the tour will go on sale Friday, June 2. Horan told fans to expect additional dates.

"There are still a few more dates coming so if you don't see a show near you listed, stay tuned," he wrote.

The tour comes after Horan announced his latest album "The Show," which is set to be released on June 9.

"This album is a piece of work I'm so proud of and now it's time to pass it over to you to go and make it your own," he wrote on Instagram. "Thank you so much for being there for me all this time and I can't wait to share the next couple of years of this new era with you. I've missed you all so much."

On the upcoming tour, Horan will perform in England, France, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Italy, Spain and more. He will also head to Australia and New Zealand. The North American leg kicks off in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and will head to Nashville, Philadelphia, New York City, Cincinnati, Toronto, Denver and more.

Horan is one of five former members of the mega-popular boy band One Direction to launch successful solo careers after the group called it quits in 2016.

Former bandmate Harry Styles has become a household name, whose "Harry's House" won Album of the Year at the 2023 Grammy Awards.

Niall Horan Skirts One Direction Reunion Rumors — but Reveals the Band Is Still Close

Updated on 5/25/2023 at 2:30 PM

LOS ANGELES, CA - NOVEMBER 23: Musicians Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Harry Styles of One Direction arrive at the 2014 American Music Awards at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live on November 23, 2014 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo b

Directioners, it's definitely not the time to give up hope for a One Direction renaissance. Ever since One Direction split in 2016, rumors have been circulating on pretty much a monthly basis about whether Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik will ever reunite. They've been dispelled time and time again, but according to Horan, although a musical reunion may not be on the way, the band is very much still in contact.

In a May 25 interview with E! News , Horan shared that the former bandmates still regularly correspond. "We've had three or four group chats," he said, sharing that there's now a new, particularly active one. "Some of them have been more quiet than others. This new one is definitely louder than most, and it's been great," he said. "I'm sure if I had a look at my phone in a few minutes I'd see some messages." Still, when asked if any One Direction bandmates would appear on his forthcoming album, "The Show," he had a clear response. "No," he said. "Now that's a straight and easy answer."

Earlier in May, during an interview at a Wembley Arena boxing match on May 13 , Horan's fellow One Directioner Tomlinson also discussed the band's new chat. "I don't know," he said when asked if he thought the group would reunite at any point, "but we've just made a new group chat. That's something."

In April, though, another One Direction member did seem to suggest that a One Direction collaboration or reunion could be on the horizon. Appearing on the last ever "The Late Late Show With James Corden" on April 27, Styles sat on the sofa with his longtime friend, Corden, and Will Ferrell. The three played a final game of "Spill Your Guts," in which the celebrities get asked an awkward question and have to decide to answer or face a forfeit of eating something pretty disgusting. Styles was asked: "Yes or no, will there be a One Direction reunion? Will it ever happen?" As the crowd screamed, Styles answered: "I would never say never to that. I think if there was a time when we all felt that was what we want to do, then I don't see why we wouldn't." Now, we don't know about you, but that sounds like a (sort of) confirmation, right? Even Corden said: "I'm taking that as a yes!"

Social media had been alight with gossip that the boyband would all be appearing on "The Late Late Show"'s last episode together. They have all appeared on the "Carpool Karaoke" segment previously, and played tattoo roulette, which ended with Styles getting the show's logo inked on his arm. The four remaining members have all appeared on the show individually, too, but the TV reunion was swiftly denied in the run-up to the last show.

It was three years ago when the rumor mill last began spinning out of control as fans believed that One Direction would reunite for their 10-year anniversary in 2020. A decade had gone by since the band was formed on "The X Factor," and Payne even got fans riled up by telling The Sun : "We've got a 10-year anniversary coming up, so we've all been speaking together a lot over the last few weeks which has been really nice," he said. "To hear a lot of people's voices and seeing old content and different things that we haven't seen for a long time or never seen before, it's very interesting. At the moment I'm not sure what I'm allowed to say." Yet sadly, perhaps due to the COVID-19 pandemic, nothing came to fruition.

While the boys are no stranger to the reunion gossip, we have to admit there are clues that are stacking up. The members have all been spotted supporting each other individually, with Payne most recently attending the premiere of Tomlinson's "All of Those Voices" film . Styles thanked his former bandmates as he collected his win at the 2023 Brits , and Horan and Payne congratulated him on his recent win at the Grammys . Styles added fuel to the fire when he posted a photo of him wearing a One Direction tshirt in the gym in March before quickly deleting it. And in August 2022, Malik took to Instagram to offer fans an acoustic snippet of "Night Changes."

While there is no concrete evidence of a One Direction reunion in the works currently, it can't be denied that the signs are adding up. And with Styles confirming he would be on board, we'll be keeping an eye out for the "Little Things" pointing towards the big reunion moment.

NEWS... BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

One Direction reunion would need ‘a big discussion but it’s hard to see all five of them coming back’

A One Direction reunion will need ‘a big discussion’ but doesn’t seem likely with all five members of the boyband returning, it’s been said.

Harry Styles , Louis Tomlinson , Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik rose to fame on the 2010 series of The X Factor.

Despite coming in third place behind winner Matt Cardle and runner-up Rebecca Ferguson , they went on to become one of the biggest boybands in the world.

In 2015, our hearts broke when Zayn announced he was leaving the band, and as if things couldn’t get any worse, One Direction fans’ worlds shattered when the remaining four members called it quits just months later.

Since then, they’ve gone on to carve out successful music careers, filled stadiums, had children, and sold millions of records individually.

But there’s still hope there could be a comeback, and following the likes of N-Dubz or S Club 7 , One Direction could reunite one day.

It won’t be easy though, according to their former vocal coach Ali Tennant.

The singer and songwriter worked with them as well as singers including Cher Lloyd on The X Factor, telling Metro.co.uk: ‘The truth is, they have blown up individually.

‘You expected it to a certain degree but in the history of boybands, normally you’d get one that’s astronomical and the rest are doing other things and so on.

‘But, we can obviously see Harry is the leader of the pack, but Niall is still doing well, people are waiting for Liam to come back out, Louis is still doing his thing, they’re all doing their thing.’

Talking about a potential reunion, he went on: ‘I think it’s going to be a big discussion for them to come back.

‘It’s one of those things, they did so well lucratively, it’s not like they need to come back for the money. They’d want to come back for the fans and love for each other.’

Ali then added: ‘Zayn is kind of excluded from the love for some reason, so I don’t know if it will ever fully happen.

Harry Styles

‘You might see a one-off tour with the four of them, but I can’t see the five of them coming back – I can’t see that, and Zayn is now getting himself back together and putting his own thing together now.

‘I can’t see it – and can you imagine being Harry, being asked whether he wants to do a One Direction tour again after he’s just a stadium worldwide tour – I can’t imagine that!’

Ali, who continues to work with younger artists including the likes of 22-year-old Kurdish Idol singer Bana Shirwan, went on to explain it’s no surprise when artists who found fame at such a young age return to the spotlight after a career break.

He said: ‘It started a long time ago with the likes of Charlotte Church. Everyone has a time away from the industry, even though they might still be present on TV, because a lot of acts pull back from everything, come off social media, like Ed Sheeran.

‘I think it’s super important to take stock of life, especially when you’ve been thrown into it at such a young age, you need that time to grow, you really do.

‘I think it’s a duty of care for people that work with young acts to really listen and to consider their mental health, I think it’s super important.’

Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan of One Direction

After working on The X Factor, Ali went on to land a role as a vocal coach on The Voice, where he’s been working for 11 years, becoming one of their longest-standing coaches.

He told us: ‘Going from The X Factor to The Voice, The X Factor was an incredible machine, there’s no doubting that. But I think the difference is there’s a little more care to attention on The Voice, hence why I’ve been there so long.

‘The turnaround is much slower on The Voice and you can give more love and it’s a place for really cultivating artists a little bit more, and I think artists are attracted to that.

‘I found myself a bit more comfortable on The Voice, not that things were bad on The X Factor because I was on one of the most successful seasons.’

Talking about One Direction being formed that year, he went on: ‘With One Direction, they came in as solo acts, had the disappointment of all being turned away, Liam for instance, it was his second time.

‘And he got turned away again, but this idea of the boyband came up and some of them were halfway home after being disappointed and turned down, some of them were angry, but they got that lifeline and having them in a room the next day, practicing the song they did at judges’ houses, which was Natalie Imbruglia’s Torn, they had to pull themselves together.

‘I had to make sure they were okay to be honest, these shows always have a psychologist at hand to make everybody’s cool, there’s a duty of care.

Is One Direction Getting Back Together? Everything They've Said About a Reunion

Ever since they announced they were taking an indefinite hiatus in 2015, fans of One Direction have been patiently waiting for the band to return.

The group (which consisted of Louis Tomlinson ,  Niall Horan , Liam Payne ,  Harry Styles  and  Zayn Malik ) was put together by  Simon Cowell  on July 23, 2010, after they all auditioned on  The X Factor as solo artists. On July 23, 2020, the boys celebrated their 10-year anniversary with the launch of  an “immersive and interactive” website .

According to  a press release , the site took the “form of a timeline charting the history of the group, from the first audition right up to the start of their hiatus. It will host an archive of music videos, artwork, TV performances, behind-the-scenes and rarely-seen content, all in one place.” There was also a new video that highlighted the band’s career from the start to releasing “History.”

A few months after the epic 1D milestone, Liam said he’s hoping for more One Direction coming soon. “I think we just need a proper catch up actually,” he said during a December 2020 interview with CapitalFM . “It was nice to catch up for the ten year anniversary. I’m hoping we’ve got a lot more to come from us.”

Months later, in March 2021, Niall reflected on his time in the band and what it was like dealing with fans at the height of 1D’s fame. “I struggled with the idea of, ‘Why won’t you just let us out?'” the singer recalled on People, Just People . “But, you can’t get inside the brain of a fan and now I completely get it, but at the time, you’re like, ‘You’re our age. Just let us out.'”

Despite their busy schedules, the boys are still close. In fact, in June 2021 during an Instagram Live , Liam revealed that he and Harry had a “lovely” phone conversation. “I spoke to him and it was a really lovely catch up actually, and I’ve got a lot of love for the man. He’s great, he’s really, really great,” the singer said, noting that he’d love for all the boys “to get in a room at some point.” We’d love that too!

Since they decided to go their separate ways, there’s not a day that’s gone by that fans haven’t longed for them to make a comeback, so this brand new website is seriously a dream come true! In honor of the exciting announcement, J-14 went ahead and rounded up everything the boys have ever said about the possibility of them reuniting over the years, so get excited, people!  Scroll through our gallery to see what each member of One Direction has said about the band’s comeback.

Rumors Have Never ‘Stopped’

“It’s not like it’s ever stopped. It’s just, like, the conversation hasn’t happened. It’s a great legacy to have. No, I don’t think it sucks the air out the room. It’s more, the answer’s still the same,” Niall said during an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 in June 2023. “The conversation hasn’t happened. We speak regularly, but that conversation hasn’t happened. God knows whether it ends up being. It could be like the Friends reunion, it could be a whole tour. God knows what it is, but no, it hasn’t been spoken about.”

‘Never Say Never’

“I would never say never to that,” Harry said after being asked about a 1D reunion on The Late Late Show with James Corden in April 2023. “If there was a time where we all felt like that was what we wanted to do, I don’t see why we wouldn’t.”

Maybe In the Future

“Getting back together at some point is hard to imagine right now,” Louis sheared during an interview with U.K.’s The Times in February 2023. “But I’d be surprised if we lived out our lives and didn’t have a moment where we had a reunion, or whatever you want to call it. I’d be up for that.”

Will a Reunion Work?

“When you look at it on paper, it’s like, ‘How the f–k’s it all gonna fit back together?’ We’re all making very different music, doing our own thing, all busy all the time,” Louis shared during a November 2022 interview with  The Telegraph . “So I don’t see anything happening for at least another 10 years, but you never know. It looks pretty jumbled. But I think there is a world where it all kind of fits together.”

Getting Back Together ‘One Day’

“One day, there’s a lot of moving parts but it would be a shame if we didn’t. I hope so,” Louis said on U.K.’s  Lorraine in September 2022 about the possibly of a One Direction reunion.

A ‘Great’ Possibility

“I mean I think the thought of it is really nice, I’d love for there to be a time where it felt like something we all wanted to do,” Harry said on the “Spout” podcast  in June 2022. “I very much enjoyed those albums that you mentioned. I think we all went through something really special together and there’s a lot of love there. So, yeah, I think if there’s a moment for us to do it the right way, I think it’d be great.”

Having a Chat

“No one really talks about [a reunion],” he admitted on the  Jonathan Ross Show in June 2021. “If everyone wanted to do it, I’d be down for it. They’re probably slim right now, currently. We need to all get in the same room and have a chat. I don’t know when that would be.”

Niall continued, “Unless everyone was completely in, I wouldn’t want to do it. I wouldn’t want to force someone into doing it.”

Showing Love for the Band

“Look I f–king love One Direction,” he told U.K.’s  The Telegraph in November 2020. “I’m sure we’re going to come back together one day, and I’ll be doing a couple of One Direction songs in my gig. I always do that, so that’s not alluding to any reunion or anything. But, I mean, look, I’m sure one day we’ll get back together because, you know, we were f–king great.”

Celebrating 10 Years

“Obviously, we know it’s a very big anniversary and we definitely want to do something. I mean, it’s a tough one. I can’t promise any reunion plans because it just isn’t it right now. I always put it down to music language because everyone’s releasing at the moment with like two years worth of promo,” Liam told People Magazine  in May 2020. “But, you know, it still seems very hopeful in that department. I’m starting to think it’s gonna happen at some point. So it’s exciting.”

He added, “It’s been nice to open up the channels of communication again because we hadn’t spoken for a while. And I think we all needed that after spending so much time together — just to figure out our own selves as people because we all know what we are in the band. We spent so much time together that I didn’t know where the f**k I fit in by the time it finished. It was kind of crazy. But it’s been nice. It’s been so lovely. And it’s just nice to see everyone turned out to be nice people, you know?”

When It Will Happen

“I think we match each other for excitement. Where we left off with the band, we had just finished an album and we didn’t get to tour it so there’s always been that little thing that’s been missing from it,” Liam  explained in May 2020 . “Everyone I’ve spoken to, we always get onto the topic of the reunion at some point, it’s not like anyone is trying to dodge it, it’s just a matter of when.”

The 10-Year Anniversary

“We’ve got a ten-year anniversary coming up so we’ve all been speaking together a lot over the last few weeks which has been really nice,” Liam also told The Sun in April 2020. “At the moment I’m not sure what I’m allowed to say. There’s a number of different things that we are all working on to try and make happen and people are forwarding emails around. But more than anything it’s just been a real good time for us to connect together again.”

A Virtual Reunion?

Fans were living when the Backstreet Boys had a virtual reunion during the coronavirus pandemic . Yep, because they were practicing social distancing and couldn’t meet up during the outbreak, they all got on video chat together and performed some songs and recorded it for the fans. When the radio hosts from the British morning show Heart Breakfast asked Harry if he was interested in doing something similar with the One Direction, he explained, “I mean we’re not working right now so probably not this second, it would be an interesting way of doing a reunion for sure. It would be an interesting way to reunite.”

He also told Sirius XM  in April 2020, “I don’t know if that is the reunion that we’ve had in mind, and not sure if that would be the way to do, but yeah, I’ll have a quick whip-around.”

Getting Back Together

Liam spoke out about it once again while appearing on The Late, Late Show With James Corden  in April 2020.

“I”m not allowed to say too much obviously because I would be giving it away,” he said. “We’ve been speaking a lot more at the moment, I think we are all feeling that that ten year
 It’s a very special moment.”

Nothing Planned Just Yet

In another interview, he insisted that the guys weren’t planning a reunion after all. He explained  in April 2020, “Obviously, there’s a lot of talk about it at the moment, because the 10-year anniversary of the band getting together is happening this year. It’s absolutely nuts, it’s strange. Sometimes it feels like it was yesterday, sometimes it feels like it was 50 years ago. It’s strange, but no, there’s no reunion, as such. We’ve just been talking a bit more, recently.”

A Confident ‘Yes’

While participating in James Corden ‘s Carpool Karaoke in March 2020, the talk show host hooked the singer up to a lie detector test. When he asked him if he thought the band would get back together, Niall said “yes” — which according to the machine, was the truth!

Wanting to Return

“We’d be absolutely ridiculous not to reform the band,” he told RTE in February 2020. “We haven’t really spoken about the whens, but we know we will. We have all said individually that we will and I think it would be stupid if we didn’t.”

Haven’t Talked About Reuniting

While attending the 2020 Brit Awards in February 2020, Niall  explained , “The answer is, we don’t know [when]. We haven’t spoken about it, and you’ll know if we do.”

Maybe in the Future

“We’ve been on a break only for about four years, and I’m only now getting around to releasing my first album,” he explained to BBC  in January 2020. “Fans who follow our move every day probably feel like we haven’t been a band for a while, but I’m just finding my feet. It’ll happen at one point. We’d be stupid not to, but we’re just exploring and enjoying life as individuals now.”

He also told Cosmopolitan in January 2020 that if he had to guess, he’d be the one to send the initial, “Alright boys, let’s do this,” message. But he also admitted that if the guys were to get back together, the music would have to be different. He explained that although the songs were great, they were reflective of the fact that they were being performed by teenagers. As for when the reunion will take place, he said, “Anything past 35 feels too late,” but didn’t want to think too far into the future.

Liam Payne Confirms One Direction Reunion

“I think at some point we will get back together. I think we will for sure,” he told Sunday Brunch in December 2019. “I don’t know when that is yet, but all I know is that there are at least two years because everyone’s released new music and you have to go and promo. There are at least two years.”

Talking to the Boys

“We have been talking a lot more recently and I can’t imagine we wouldn’t finish the story where we did,” Liam  revealed in December 2019. “However, the guys are doing so well individually and they are experiencing new things like film and TV, so it will probably be a little while if it ever happens.”

Never Say Never

“I don’t think I’d ever say never,” Harry told Kiss 106.5 in November 2019. “I definitely never say never. You know it was a massive part of my life and something that we always have. It’s a pretty amazing thing to be part of.”

As for when the reunion will take place, he continued, “If a time comes around when everyone wants to do it. We’re all going on tour [next year] but if it works out, well talk about it.”

Even Simon Is Hopeful

Simon , who originally formed the band back on The X Factor , said he thinks the boys will get back together “within five years.”

“My gut feeling is yes,” he said on the U.K. radio show Heart Breakfast  in November 2019. “I mean, they’re all doing great solo wise, at the moment, but they had a lot of hits. So, they could do tour, after tour, after tour. You know you could sell out a One Direction gig, or a stadium tour, in about 20 seconds.”

Finding the Time

“Everybody outwardly in the press has said something but we haven’t really spoke as a collective together,” Liam said on The Jonathan Ross Show in October 2019. “All I can say is, through album cycles and single cycles, I see everybody putting songs out at the moment, I don’t think for at least the next two years it’s going to happen.”

Louis Wasn’t Ready for a Break

“I wasn’t really ready for the band to go on a break,” he told Metro in October 2019. “As far as I am concerned, I am happy doing what I am doing. But the day that [a reunion] does happen, and everyone is ready to do it, I am ready.”

Enjoying Solo Life

“There was no timeline on the gap. I would have preferred if someone said five years, and it probably will end up something like that,” he revealed to The Telegraph in October 2019. “I’m enjoying what I’m doing, but if one of the lads were to pick up the phone and say it’s time, I’d do it.”

Talking With the Boys

“I say different times all the time,” Liam said in an interview with Sirius XM in September 2019, when asked about when the band will reunite. “It’s difficult. I haven’t spoken to Harry in a while, so I don’t know where his head is at with [a reunion.] I heard he mentioned it in some sort of magazine thing or whatever the other day, which is cool.”

But according to the “Strip That Down” crooner, Niall and Louis are definitely on board.

“I think everybody else has been really outspoken. I think they’re ready to go whenever,” he continued. “I think Niall was ready the day we decided to stop. He was like, ‘I’m sure we’re coming back in tomorrow, boys!” He was just ready to go.”

‘100 Percent’

“There’s gotta be! 100 percent,” Louis told 1883 Magazine about a 1D reunion in 2019. “As far as I’m concerned, we are all good at doing our individual stuff right now and it’s great for yourself as an individual, but the day we do get back together will be a magical day for all of us. I think everyone is in the same boat when it comes to this. It’s inevitable and the question is just when are we going to do it. Now that we are on this break, I can look back and say it was massive, but looking from the other side you can see the influence and the importance. That’s really cool, just seeing our positive influence. We were such a powerhouse. It’s a no-brainer. I’m the first to sign the sheets to get back together.”

Harry Is on Board

“I don’t think I’d ever say I’d never do it again, because I don’t feel that way. If there’s a time when we all really want to do it, that’s the only time for us to do it, because I don’t think it should be about anything else other than the fact that we’re all like, ‘Hey, this was really fun. We should do this again,’” he told Rolling Stone  in August 2019. “But until that time, I feel like I’m really enjoying making music and experimenting. I enjoy making music this way too much to see myself doing a full switch, to go back and do that again. Because I also think if we went back to doing things the same way, it wouldn’t be the same, anyway.”

It’s ‘Inevitable’

“I do think it will happen,” he told ITN in May 2019. “I’d certainly have something to say about it if it didn’t. I think it’s inevitable. ‘When?’ is the big question. That’s something none of us really know the answer to at the moment.”

Staying In Touch

And when asked if he still keeps in touch with the boys, Louis confirmed once again that they’re as close as ever .

“Absolutely yeah, we all keep in contact you know what I mean, the lads sent me some messages,” he told KIIS 106.5  in April 2019 while promoting his hit song “Two Of Us.” “I’ve had a text from all the lads actually about the song so that was really nice.”

Plus, he dropped a major hint about the reunion once again.

“And in terms of getting back together
at some point obviously,” Louis continued. “Like you know what I mean, we’ve got a lot of people that we owe it to really. So I think everyone’s on the same page now. We’re all just doing our own thing.”

Hitting the Road Again

“My dream is that one day we go back on tour together as a band. That would be f–king ace,” he told House of Solo Magazine in March 2019.

Having Discussions About When

“We haven’t started talking about it yet, but the truth is that it would be wrong not to meet even one day, it would be wrong for fans too,” Louis told Vanity Fair Italy in March 2019. “The problem is to say when. We are all engaged in our careers. I saw Liam at X Factor , he came in an episode as a guest judge . We talked a lot, it was nice. Then I went to see Niall on tour. The truth is that we can’t hear each other or see each other much, but we have a unique, uncommon bond.”

Missing the Band

“I miss the band every day – I’d be lying if I said I didn’t. Of course I do,” Louis told inews.co.uk in February 2019. “It was an amazing time, so when you don’t have that same rhythm, you feel it. But that’s what drives me. It gives me something to aim for again. And obviously in an ideal world, who knows when, we get back together at some point and you know
whatever. But having that idea in my head of working really hard every single day, that gave me a target.”

Estimating a Reunion Date

Speaking to  Daily Star , at the BRIT Awards in February 2019, the “Strip That Down” crooner explained, “Last time I said a date it was 2020 and we’re still not there yet so I’m just going to go with that and we will have to wait. Everyone’s enjoying doing their own thing.”

A Possibility

When asked if there’s a chance that 1D could get back together at the BMI Awards in October 2018, Liam said, “There is, definitely.”

“I saw Louis recently for something that I cannot say,” he continued (we now know he was referring to The X Factor .) “I’ve been in touch with Niall and Harry a little bit. I think it would be nice if we could get back together, but we’ll see. In time. All in good time.”

‘Enjoying’ Their Time Off

“We’re all just enjoying our time, but for me, there’s no way with a band like One Direction that it’s not going to happen again,” Louis said in September 2018. “It’s just impossible to say when. It’s got to.”

Doing Their Own Thing

“This is kind of like a little chapter in the middle where we’re doing our own thing,” he told  Billboard   during Pop Shop podcast in July 2018. “You can’t rule anything out really, can you? I suppose right now it would be a bit weird, but I never rule anything out, to be honest.”

Wanting to Tour

While speaking to Nick Grimshaw during the BBC Radio 1 breakfast show in April 2018, the singer had some epic ideas for their reunion tour.

“This is the only way One Direction could get any bigger than it was. These next couple years, if we do well in our solo careers, imagine the concert of five massive solo artists coming together and doing their own thing. You’ll get five concerts in one! It will be amazing,” Liam said. “I think [we] could pop out with different tunes at different times. And people could join in. Maybe Louis could do the J Balvin rap [in “Familiar”].”

He added, “Patience is key. It will be all worth while for the viewers and people who are massive fans later on. It’s going to be even better for you than expected so just hold tight.”

Whisperings of a Reunion

“I feel like it’s going to happen soon, I’ve got a feeling,” Liam  said on MTV’s TRL  in October 2017 . “I’m excited for it. I want it to happen. There was a whole album that we didn’t tour, I know we need to go and write some more music. It was so much fun and everyone loves it so much so we have to go again, for sure.”

A Longer Break

“It’s only been two years, or less than two years [since we took a break]. It’s like two years in my life. I’m hoping to live a long life, so two years out of it is not a very long time neither is three or neither is four,” Niall told The Irish Sun in September 2017. “We have to just wait until everyone’s ready to go again, we’ll go again. It’d be nice to think that we stopped at a high point, it’d be nice to pick up from there.”

Not Ruling It Out

“Maybe at some point everyone will want to do something again but it’s better if it happens naturally,” he said in his June 2017  Another Man cover story. “If that were to happen it would be amazing. I would never rule that out. It’s the most important, greatest thing that ever happened to me, being in that band. It completely changed my life.”

Deciding When to Do It

“It’s something I would never rule out doing,” Harry said when asked about a reunion in May 2017. “Right now everyone’s getting a chance to explore things they want to try and it’s really cool to see what they’re coming up with when it’s just them in a studio writing.”

Always Down to Do It

“We don’t want to put a time on it. But when that phone call does come, no matter whoever it comes from, we’re back again,” he told The Sun in May 2017.

No Doubt About It

“It will definitely happen, of course,” he said to the Australian radio show Smallzy’s Surgery in February 2017. “As I’ve said many times, we’d be stupid not to. I’m doing [my music], going to be doing a bit of a tour. Harry’s got his movie coming out, Harry’s doing his thing. Louis’s doing his thing and Liam’s doing his thing. A year has gone so quick already. But when [a reunion] does happen, it’s going to be great.”

Louis Thinks It’s a ‘Must’

And while speaking to Dan Wootton in 2017,  he was sure the band would reunite.

“There is no question of if – it’s a must. And I think we’re all on the same page with that one. It would be too difficult for any of us to say no,” the “Back To You” crooner said .

17 acts we can't wait to see at Coachella 2024

Whether you're attending IRL or watching via livestream, here are the can't-miss sets at this year's festival — aside from all the headliners.

Sydney Bucksbaum is a writer at Entertainment Weekly covering all things pop culture – but TV is her one true love. She currently lives in Los Angeles but grew up in Chicago so please don't make fun of her accent when it slips out.

one direction reunion world tour

We're declaring it now: Coachella 2024 is all about the women.

After last year's music festival lineup skewed decidedly male, this weekend's kickoff for the massive Indio, Calif. event (running Friday through Sunday, and again the following weekend) swings in the opposite direction, offering everything from female singer-songwriters, R&B stars, rappers, bands, and more.

And while all three headliners —   Lana Del Rey ,  Tyler, the Creator , and  Doja Cat  â€” are sure to deliver must-see performances, there are a ton of other artists on the roster who are also worth your time. So whether you're attending the fest in person or following  YouTube's mega livestream  from the comfort of your couch-ella, here are 17 acts you absolutely shouldn't miss.

No Doubt's reunion

Hey baby, hey baby, hey — break out your '90s plaid pants, spiky space buns, and ska dance moves at the main stage Saturday night. While not technically a headliner, but rather occupying the special bottom billing spot on the lineup, No Doubt 's reunion is going to be the hella good highlight of both weekends of the festival. Gwen Stefani 's band hasn't performed together since 2015, and according to Stefani herself, Coachella will likely be the only time fans can see them perform in 2024 and beyond as they have no plans for a reunion tour .

Vampire Weekend's surprise set

Indie sleaze is officially back, and what better way to celebrate it than a surprise Vampire Weekend set? Sorry to all fans attending the second weekend, because this looks like a Weekend One exclusive as the indie rock quartet returns to the festival after more than a decade — and less than a week after releasing their highly-anticipated fifth album Only God Was Above Us . Catch them Saturday evening at the Outdoor Theatre. Plus, don't miss legendary rock band Blur later at the Coachella Stage to keep those nostalgic indie vibes going all night.

Dia Dipasupil/Getty

2023’s hip-hop breakout Ice Spice is making her Coachella debut hot on the heels of her meteoric rise. As one of the top-billed Saturday acts, and as a well-known Taylor Swift squad member , the shortened half-hour set length is unexpected. But could we still get Swift's first Coachella appearance as a surprise guest in the new-and-improved Sahara tent? Wilder things have happened out in the desert!

All the female singer-songwriters: Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, Brittany Howard, Faye Webster, etc.

We're not going to lie, this might be the toughest conflict of the entire weekend. The fan overlap between Sabrina Carpenter , Chappell Roan, Faye Webster, and Brittany Howard is massive, and all four women are playing at nearly the same time on Friday. Carpenter makes history as the first former Disney Channel star to be officially billed on the lineup ( Zendaya's appearance during Labrinth's set last year was a total surprise), and she plays on the main stage, while Roan welcomes fans to the "Pink Pony Club" right before former Alabama Shakes frontwoman Howard delivers what will surely be a powerful solo set at Gobi. Meanwhile, indie pop singer Webster plays next door at Mojave. Some difficult choices will have to be made for fans of female singer-songwriters of all genres.

At least it'll be easier to catch R&B singers Raye and Victoria MonĂ©t at Mojave on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Brit pop star Raye makes her Coachella debut a month after making history at the BRIT awards by winning six in one night, and fresh off her SNL performance. Her knockout set will be so "Worth It," along with Best New Artist Grammy winner MonĂ©t's. And be sure to catch Mean Girls and Sex Lives of College Girls star ReneĂ© Rapp at the Outdoor Theatre on Sunday — there really is no shortage of incredible female singer-songwriters this year.

The "Sublime With Rome" era is coming to an end — original Sublime members Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson have reunited with Jakob Nowell, son of late frontman Bradley Nowell, and Coachella will be the band’s first performance since announcing his return. While new frontman Rome Ramirez has helped carry the ska-alt band for the last 15 years (and their final album comes out next month), Coachella marks the beginning of a new chapter for the band with Jakob. Expect to hear all the classics as they rock the main stage on Saturday at sunset.

French electronic duo Justice are back at Coachella for their highly-anticipated fifth time, kicking off their new tour at the festival where they played their very first live performance back in 2007. It doesn't matter if you've never seen a Justice Coachella set or you've attended all four previous sets, this should be a must-see for anyone looking to end their night with the best dance party vibes. Catch them closing out the Outdoor Theatre on Friday.

And if dark, French electronic music is your speed, then don’t miss Gesaffelstein either — the "prince of darkness" played his iconic 2019 set decked out in full chrome in front of a mind-warping Vantablack (a.k.a. the world's rare absolute black) monolith, so there's no telling what he's got in store this year. He'll be closing out the Outdoor Theatre on Saturday.

88rising Futures

After Blackpink made history last year as Coachella's first-ever K-pop headliner, 88rising is raising the bar. The international music and media company has assembled a massive Asian all-star ensemble for one set under the name 88rising Futures, including Atarashii Gakko!, Number_i, Awich, Yoasobi, Xin Liu, and more. Don't miss the medley performance at Mojave on Sunday. Plus, Ateez makes history on Friday at Sahara as the first K-pop boy group to perform at Coachella.

An hour after the gates open on Friday, Cimafunk will make history as the first Cuban-born artist to ever perform at the festival. The rapper/singer will open the Gobi stage with his signature Afro-Caribbean beats, and if the name didn’t already tell you as much, expect a truly funky performance. Start your weekend on a high note with this unique Coachella set.

Everything Always

EDM's current "It" boys John Summit and Dom Dolla are bringing their joint project Everything Always to Coachella in addition to each of their solo sets for a total of three vibe-heavy performances across the weekend. So whether you're "Saving Up" your energy just for when they share the stage or "Where You Are" will be at every one of their sets, you really can't go wrong. Everything Always hits the Outdoor Theatre on Friday night, while Dom Dolla and John Summit close out Sahara on Saturday and Sunday night, respectively.

Everything at the new Quasar stage

On that note, we must discuss Coachella's newest addition: the Quasar stage. For the first time ever, the festival is offering extended electronic sets (a.k.a. longer than three hours) from some of the genre's leading producers and DJs. The first weekend kicks off with sets from Honey Dijon x Green Velvet, Michael Bibi, and Jamie XX x Floating Points x Daphni, while Weekend Two keeps the vibes going with RĂŒfĂŒs Du Sol, Eric Prydz x Anyma (at sunset!), and Diplo x Mau P. So when all else fails, head to Quasar — or the Yuma tent whenever you need a moment to cool down in air conditioning underneath the legendary Disco Shark.

Approved by Barack Obama himself , Peso Pluma is now the most-streamed artist ever in Mexico and successfully crossed over into American charts with his corridos revival. And after Becky G brought him out for a special appearance at last year's Coachella, he's back again, now with his own set at the main stage on Friday night.

L’ImpĂ©ratrice

French band L’ImpĂ©ratrice returns to Coachella with what's sure to be yet another show-stopping set. The Parisian pop group has quickly become a festival favorite, and with the announcement of their third album Pulsar including a Maggie Rogers cameo, the hype is high for a potential guest appearance from that singer. Catch them at the Outdoor Theatre stage Friday evening.

If you're looking for something truly different, check out Clown Core on Friday in the Sonora tent ... with an open mind. The extremely-hard-to-define musical duo remain anonymous as they always wear clown masks, but many believe it to be Louis Cole from Knower and Sam Gendel as they blend jazz and metal to a simultaneously intriguing and terrifying degree. You really haven't seen anything like this before.

Another unique offering on this year's lineup is Skepta, the OG British grime rapper, ahead of the release of his sixth album Knife and Fork. This will be his second time at Coachella, and there is potential for some big name guest appearances during his Friday Sahara set.

Mandy, Indiana

With a rare U.S. appearance, Mandy, Indiana hits the Sonora tent on Sunday. This experimental English-French "noise rock" group is definitely not for casual fans, but music nerds looking to end their weekend with something off-the-beaten-path rather than at a headliner will flock here — and love every second of it.

T-Pain and Claptone at the Heineken House

If you've never been to the Heineken House at Coachella, what are you even doing?! One of the festival's side stages with its own dedicated lineup is always worth a visit for its nonstop dance party vibes. Don't let the sometimes-long line to get in fool you! The highlights at this year's Heineken House are T-Pain on Saturday and Claptone on Sunday, for two very different but equally promising sets.

Salute and everything else at the Do LaB

We've said it before and we'll say it every year: Coachella's most unique and all-around fun stage is the Do LaB. The colorful, electronic-focused side stage created by brothers Dede, Jesse, and Josh Flemming (who also started California's Lightning in a Bottle music festival) has its own curated lineup for both weekends, with surprise, to-be-announced headliners each night. Masters preview: Golf’s competing tours converge with local stars on both sides

One year after the pga tour and liv first mixed at the masters, it now feels like a reunion long overdue..

Scottie Scheffler poses with the Masters trophy during the Green Jacket Ceremony after...

Jon Rahm went from wearing a  Masters green jacket  in April to a  LIV Golf black letterman’s jacket  in December.

Those two images — one in Butler Cabin with Dallas’ Scottie Scheffler, the other in a New York studio with Greg Norman — illustrate the great divide in golf that has scattered the sport’s biggest stars across two tours. The rival circuits are not pitted against each other, and therein lies the problem facing golf: They’re never together.

That’s what makes the Masters feel bigger than ever.

It already is the most anticipated tournament of any year because of Augusta National and all the history and memories it has created over 90 years.  One year after the PGA Tour and LIV first mixed at the Masters , it now feels like a reunion long overdue.

“The first time there was that split, this war between the tours,” Xander Schauffele said. “It brought a lot of eyeballs because of that — sort of LIV versus the PGA Tour kind of thing. ... I think the tone might be different from a fan’s perspective.

“But I think it will still be great viewing,” he said. “One, it’s the Masters. And two, I think everybody is just probably excited to see everyone compete again.”

When the first tee shot in the 88th Masters Tournament is struck Thursday, it will be the first time in 263 days that all the world’s best players will be chasing the same prize.

Rahm and Scheffler. Brooks Koepka and Rory McIlroy. Patrick Reed and Dallas’ Jordan Spieth. Even aging stars Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods.

Savor these moments, because there doesn’t seem to be peace in the immediate future.

The PGA Tour invited the Saudi backers of LIV Golf to the table in  a stunning agreement  last June to become commercial partners.

But then Congress got involved. The Justice Department had antitrust concerns. The tour began receiving offers from U.S. private equity groups. As the tour narrowed its list of suitors, the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia flexed its financial muscle by luring away Rahm with an offer believed to be in the neighborhood of the tour’s entire prize fund for the year.

The PGA Tour now has a $3 billion investment from a consortium of billionaire sports owners in the U.S., all while still negotiating with the Saudis. A month before the Masters, Woods, Spieth and the rest of the player-directors on the PGA Tour board met for the first time with Yasir Al-Rumayyan , the PIF governor who refers to LIV as his “baby.”

LIV doesn’t appear to be going anywhere, and there is no consensus on how to bring LIV players back into the fold, if they even want to come back.

“We can’t keep going this direction,” Bryson DeChambeau, the former SMU star, said. “It’s great to have the majors where we all come together, but we want to be competing — at least I want to be competing — every week with all of the best players in the world.”

The closest the two tours have been to each other was early February — about 300 miles separated the Phoenix Open from LIV Golf Las Vegas. Otherwise, they feel galaxies apart.

For now, the boundaries only vanish at the four majors. That starts with the Masters.

“That’s what is making this Masters and many other majors so much fun — not only for me and for players, but for spectators — is for all of us to be able to play together again and showcase what we’re capable of,” Rahm said.

The show starts with Scheffler, the undisputed No. 1 in the world even with LIV players plunging in the ranking because their league does not get points.

His tee-to-green statistics are among the best since the peak years of Woods. And then Scheffler got the putter going and he won against two of the strongest fields in consecutive weeks at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship . His most recent start was a runner-up finish in the Houston Open .

Rahm has been watching — that’s about all he can do. And the Masters provides an arena for him to have a say about that.

“I’m fully aware of where Scottie is,” Rahm said. “I don’t need to be playing next to him to know what’s going on. Anytime you’re doing the history he’s been able to do, it’s quite impressive.”

The only history that matters to McIlroy is joining the most exclusive club in golf. Only five players have won the four professional majors dating to the inception of the Masters in 1934. Woods was the most recent in 2000, and he got it done at the British Open on his first try.

Of the other four players with the career Grand Slam, no one waited longer than three years to get the last leg. McIlroy is going on his 10th year, and it’s been that long — 10 years — since he won any major championship.

“I’m under no illusion that the clock is ticking, and it has been 10 years since I’ve won one of them,” McIlroy said. “I just need to keep putting myself in those positions, and sooner or later it’s going to happen.”

This is his 16th Masters. Only one player — Sergio Garcia — has played the Masters more often before finally winning. Garcia won his green jacket in his 19th attempt.

McIlroy won in Dubai at the start of the year, though his PGA Tour performance has been mediocre by his standards. He has been at the forefront of this disruption in golf, going from one of LIV’s loudest critics to resigning from the PGA Tour board and now pushing as hard as anyone for golf to find harmony, even if that means bringing back LIV players without penalty.

Woods has been the strongest and steadiest opposition to LIV Golf, and now the biggest name in the sport is lending his voice by getting an unlimited term on the PGA Tour board. He also was behind a change that gives players a majority on the board.

As for golf? That remains a mystery, as it has for the last five years since he capped that remarkable comeback from four back surgeries by winning a fifth green jacket and his 15th major. Woods had ankle surgery after last year’s Masters and is walking better. His ambitious goal was to play once a month through the major championship season.

That hasn’t gone to plan, not even close. Woods has played only 24 holes in one tournament this year, withdrawing after six holes of the second round at Riviera with the flu.

There remains a curiosity about the divide and how they perform. Rahm has played only five times since November leading up to the Masters. Is that enough? What does guaranteed cash do for motivation?

Those questions might have been answered last year. Koepka was runner-up at the Masters along with Mickelson. Patrick Reed was another shot behind. Koepka won the PGA Championship. Cameron Smith was fourth at the U.S. Open.

“This has kind of been my time,” Koepka said as he goes after a sixth major since 2017.

And now it’s everyone’s time to get on the same golf course, in the same clubhouse, on the same range chasing the same prize, with no emphasis on money. That doesn’t happen very often these days.
