Does anybody know where the relay indicated in this trouble code is located. There is no listing for it in the fuse block and I have not been able to locate it in the service manual. Cooling Fan 1 Control Circuit/Open (Low Speed Fan Relay)

I got the same code twice, one was a softcode and the other was an actual CEL. I had and injection pressure code thrown. My transfer pump in the tank went bad and the injection pump wasnt gettin enough fuel. I think the engine stumbled and missed from the lack of fuel and threw a fan speed CEL cause it wasnt spinning as fast as it should because of the miss. The dealer said I neeeded a new fan clutch for $350 i think i was. I said dont worry about it, have yet to have a problem with it and that was close to 15k miles ago  

is there a way to clear the code other than paying the dealership 90 bucks  

try autozone, they check em for free, just tell them you want them to turn it off  

I had checked with autozone and they said there is a state law keeping them from clearing codes they can only read them.  

I am not sure about your laws, but here in ohio i have them do it all the time. The actual code reader they use alot of places sell it. Its a farly simpe reader, nothing too crazy but they are about $150. Cause then you can shut it off yourself. I just had my local repair shop look for the relay as well. They reported back that they can't find any evidence the relay exists. They checked their repair protocols for the 480 code and none of them refers to a relay. They also checked with the nearest dealer and they weren't aware of a relay, either. I wish it did exist as it could be the cause of an issue I've been having for the last year or so.

if you know anyone with a code reader have them clear them, there is a relay but i cant remember which one it is, cause is you pull it, it will throw a p0483 also, but if i had to guess you have a bad fan clutch if thats the only code you have, you can pop the hood and look when you fire the truck if the fan looks like its spinning slow then it prolly is the clutch, let me go look in my fuse box, and i will let you know shortly....

I've had this code for about 50,000 miles and have experienced no problems. I think when i was having trouble with the truck taking off on its own and stalling and what not this code came up and never went away, for some reason its a hard code.  

I have ordered the actron cp9180 scan tool and it should be in tomorrow (so autozone says) I would assume that after it gets cleared if it comes up again that it will indeed mean the clutch is bad. There is a listing for the relay though not even the dealerships around me don't know where it is located. thank you all for your help

New modification of Russian VVER-440 fuel loaded at Paks NPP in Hungary

DECEMBER 14, 2020 — After the recent refueling at power unit 3 of the Hungarian Paks NPP, its VVER-440 reactor has been loaded with a batch of fresh fuel including 18 fuel bundles of the new modification. The new fuel will be introduced at all four operating power units of the Paks NPP, and the amount of new-modification bundles in each refueling will be increased gradually.

Development of the new VVER-440 fuel modification was completed in 2020 under the contract between TVEL JSC and MVM Paks NPP Ltd. Its introduction would optimize the hydro-uranium ratio in the reactor core, enabling to increase the efficiency of fuel usage and advance the economic performance of the power plant operation. All VVER-440 fuel modifications are manufactured at the Elemash Machine-Building Plant, a facility of TVEL Fuel Company in Elektrostal, Moscow Region.

“Introduction of a new fuel is an option to improve technical and economic performance of a nuclear power plant without substantial investment. We are actively engaged in development of new models and modifications of VVER-440 fuel for power plants in Europe. The projects of the new fuels for Loviisa NPP in Finland, Dukovany NPP in the Czech Republic, Mochovce and Bohunice NPPs in Slovakia, are currently at various stages of implementation. Despite the same reactor model, these projects are quite different technically and conceptually, since we take into account the individual needs and requirements of our customers,” commented Natalia Nikipelova, President of TVEL JSC.

The project of development and validation of the new fuel has been accomplished with participation of a number of Russian nuclear industry enterprises, such as OKB Gidropress (a part of Rosatom machine-building division Atomenergomash), Bochvar Institute (material science research facility of TVEL Fuel Company), Elemash Machine-building plant and Kurchatov Institute national research center. At the site of OKB Gidropress research and experiment facility, the new fuel passed a range of hydraulic, longevity and vibration tests.

Paks NPP is the only functioning nuclear power plant in Hungary with total installed capacity 2000 MWe. It operates four similar units powered by VVER-440 reactors and commissioned one by one in 1982-1987. Currently, Paks NPP is the only VVER-440 plant in the world operating in extended 15-monthes fuel cycle. The power plant produces about 15 bln kWh annually, about a half of electric power generation in Hungary. In 2018, the project of increasing the duration of Paks NPP fuel cycle won the European competition Quality Innovation Award in the nomination “Innovations of large enterprises”. Russian engineers from TVEL JSC, Kurchatov Institute, OKB Gidropress, Bochvar Institute and Elemash Machine-building plant provided assistance to the Hungarian colleagues in accomplishment of the project.

It is the only supplier of nuclear fuel for Russian nuclear power plants. TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom provides nuclear fuel for 73 power reactors in 13 countries worldwide, research reactors in eight countries, as well as transport reactors of the Russian nuclear fleet. Russia's Nuclear Deterrent Command Center Imperiled by Winter Freeze—Report

A Russian nuclear deterrent command center in Moscow has been imperiled by power outages that have impacted more than one-quarter of the region's cities amid freezing temperatures, a Russian Telegram channel has reported.

The VChK-OGPU outlet, which purports to have inside information from Russian security forces, reported that the 820th Main Center for Missile Attack Warnings—part of the Russian Space Forces, a branch of the country's Aerospace Forces—near Solnechnogorsk in Moscow is without power.

It serves as the space forces early warning network against potential ballistic missile attacks.

The development comes as Russians are reported to be suffering from power outages in their homes in the Moscow region caused by technical issues at plants amid subzero temperatures.

On January 4, a heating main burst at the Klimovsk Specialized Ammunition Plant in the town of Podolsk, which is about 30 miles south of central Moscow. Since then, tens of thousands of Russians are reported to have no heating in their homes.

Affected areas include the cities of Khimki, Balashikha, Lobnya, Lyubertsy, Podolsk, Chekhov and Naro-Fominsk, a map published by a Russian Telegram channel and shared on other social media sites shows.

Other Russian media outlets reported that in Moscow, residents of Balashikha, Elektrostal, Solnechnogorsk, Dmitrov, Domodedovo, Troitsk, Taldom, Orekhovo-Zuyevo, Krasnogorsk, Pushkino, Ramenskoye, Voskresensk, Losino-Petrovsky and Selyatino are also without power.

The Telegram channel said that at the 820th Main Center for Missile Attack Warnings, "the crew...is on duty around the clock."

"It is here that the decision on a retaliatory nuclear strike is executed," the channel said.

Newsweek could not independently verify the report and has reached out to the Russian Defense Ministry by email for comment.

Power outages have also been reported in Russia's second-largest city, St. Petersburg, in the country's western Voronezh region, in the southwest city of Volgograd, and in Rostov, which borders Ukraine, a country that Russia has been at war with since February 24, 2022.

On Sunday, two shopping malls in St. Petersburg were forced to close because of problems with light and heating, reported local news outlet 78.ru. Hundreds of other homes in the city have had no electricity, water or heating for days amid temperatures of -25 C (-13 F).

Russian authorities have also been forced to compensate passengers of a train that ran from Samara to St. Petersburg (a 20-hour journey) without heating during -30 C (-22 F) temperatures. Videos circulating on social media showed carriage windows frozen over. A passenger also said the toilet didn't work during the trip because of frozen pipes.

P0480 is a relatively common OBDII trouble code.  It indicates that your Dodge Caravan’s “cooling fan 1 control circuit” is malfunctioning.  It’s a generic code, so it has the same meaning for any vehicle made for the 1996 model year and up.

P0480 Meaning for the Dodge Caravan

Here is the definition of P0480 for the Dodge Caravan, broken down by its two major parts: 

Cooling Fan 1

Modern vehicles are equipped with electric cooling fans.  They are activated by the PCM (powertrain control module), whenever your Caravan reaches a certain temperature.  One or both of them will also come on when the air conditioner is running.

Control Circuit Malfunction

If the PCM has commanded cooling fan 1 to turn on, but there is an error, P0480 will be stored in the PCM’s memory.  This occurs if either the fan doesn’t respond or the PCM detects a serious fault in the control circuit.

P0480 Symptoms: Dodge Caravan

  • Service engine soon light
  • Overheating engine

With P0480 your Caravan should not drive any different.  The fan will not affect the way that the engine runs (unless you start to overheat).  If you overheat, the engine may start knocking , misfiring, or smoking.

As stated above, driving your Caravan without a functioning fan can cause it to overheat, particularly if you are driving on a hot day or you’re in heavy traffic.  It can also cause the air conditioner to stop functioning properly.

You’ll want to keep an eye on the temperature gauge and fix P0480 as soon as possible.  Once you start overheating, you may blow a head gasket and that requires a much more expensive repair.

Here are the likely causes of P0480.  The problem with this code is that there are so many potential causes.  Here, they are listed in a decent order to check them in.  

1. Check for Other Codes

Cross-referencing other codes can help you gain valuable insight.  For instance, if you get a code related to the engine coolant temperature sensor, repairing it may very well clear P0480 in your Caravan.

2. Inspect Cooling Fan 1

Disconnect the battery.  You don’t want the fan spinning up (which could happen if you try and spin it and the vehicle is hot).

If your particular Dodge Caravan has two fans, the one that is NOT in front of the air conditioner is almost always fan 1.

You’re going to spin the fan to see if it’s locked up or otherwise bad.  Make sure that the engine is ice-cold or the battery is unhooked before spinning it.  Fans can turn on without warning when the engine is hot.

If the fan requires effort to spin, then it’s bad.  Replacing it should fix P0480 in your Caravan.  Clear the codes and see if it comes back.

3. Inspect the Wiring Harness at the Fan

If the fan is spinning ok, check the wiring harness going to it.  Fan wiring can be destroyed by debris from the road getting kicked under the vehicle and tearing up the harness.  If you live in an area that is chipmunk friendly, don’t be surprised if they chewed the wiring.  I’ve seen this a few times.

Make sure that the terminals are plugged in tightly to the fan and that they are not damaged.  Verify that the pins are straight and corrosion-free.

4. Inspect the Fan Relay and Fuses

Now that we have verified that nothing obvious is causing P0480, it’s time to take a look under your Caravan’s hood at the fan relay.  Before you do, inspect the fan relay fuses to make sure that they haven’t been blown.  You can do this visually.  Verify power going to the fan relay.

Now it’s time to take a look at fan relay 1 itself.  Check out the video below, it’ll show you how to test the fan relay with a multimeter.  If there’s no power going to the relay, you’ll need to find where the short is.

5. Other P0480 Causes

Here are some other common causes of P0480, although they aren’t as common as the ones listed above:

  • VSS (vehicle speed sensor)
  • Intake Air Temp Sensor Failure
  • A/C Pressure Switch
