paxton house boat trip

Lovely afternoon out, our guide was well informed about the historic stretch of river we sailed, whilst navigating our boat with skill and expertise. Very informal and great for both children and adults @£6 per adult and £4 per child, it won't break the bank.

Thank you very much for your kind review- we are glad that you enjoyed the boat trips at Paxton House. Our boatmen really enjoy taking the trips down the river and have many stories and information to share. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Very relaxing trip up the river with two very pleasant guides my elderly father was very grateful for a lift back up the hill

Many thanks for you lovely review- we are so glad that you enjoyed the boat trip yesterday! Luckily the weather stayed dry for you! We look forward to welcoming you back soon!

As a lover of history I was really looking forward to the day at Paxton House. My husband, teenaged son and two small daughters (6 and 8) were not completely convinced... Everyone had a fantastic day! From the tour with the superbly knowledgeable and entertaining guide, Jim (patience personified since my daughters bombarded him with questions), to the adventure playground and the Teddy Trail; everything was wonderful. I could easily spend a day (or week) in the library. The café deserves a special mention too; beautifully fresh food; generous portions at a reasonable price. Well worth a visit. Not so good for those who may have difficulty walking.

Many thanks for your lovely review. We try very hard to make the tours and visitor attractions suitable for all ages, so your feedback is very welcome. We are glad that you enjoyed many different areas of paxton house- and we look forward to welcoming you back soon so you can have an even greater look into the library!!

Great find from riverside walk. Worth a visit through the grounds. Lots to do and plenty to see. Union bridge in the distance and lovely walk to the chainbridge honey farm

Thank you for your lovely review, we are so pleased to hear your enjoyed your walk along the river is it such a beautiful place. We do hope you will be back to soon maybe to try some delicious homemade food in our Stables tearoom.

The play park is excellent for young children. The staff at Paxton house are friendly, kind and always happy to help whatever your needs. The toilets are clean and hygienic you are sure to love the cafe food, golf and croquet

Thank you for your lovely review of us here at Paxton House, we do hope to see you again maybe next time a boat trip along the river tweed!

We went on holiday to Spittal near Berwrick-upon-Tweed and decided to drive up to Paxton House for the day.Great day out my kids loved it ages 14 yes 14 and 6 both thought maybe not to start with but they soon changed their minds. We first went on the house tour with the best tour guide i have ever had on any thing like this.He was called Richard he was great with kids of all ages and adults and great humour thrown in.He was great with the kids and made the teddy bear hunt fun through the tour for them. After the tour we booked onto the boat trip which was great ,the tour guide Brian and his wife Leslie are great so helpful and friendly made everyone on board so welcome. Also the play area for the kids is all solid wood type play with zip wire etc mine loved it.We had a cup of tea and some cake in the cafe area and it was also clean and tidy and nice cake yum yum.Once again we loved it had a great day and thanks to all staff for making it a great day out well done.

Boat Trips were a Highlight of our visit!

1st time visiting Paxton House, what a lovely place for a day trip out to see friends. We visited today (9th August) on another wonderfully sunny and hot day! Our group of assorted adults and children of about 12, plus dog all had a lovely time exploring. Some of us went on the guided tour of the house, which they thoroughly enjoyed. While myself, Husband, 2x more adults, 2x children and dog Tilly had booked a boat trip with Kerry. A Fantastic "Captain" ably helped by John, we were kitted in our safety vests and set off along the river to see all sorts of wildlife (Cormorants, Herons, Swans, ducks and even a Buzzard!) Fantastic views all along too. Kerry was so entertaining and clearly knew all about the history of our river trip, guiding us expertly through the shallower parts, underneath the Union Chain Bridge which is currently being restored by friendly orange Hi-vis workers! He even has a scanner to show us how deep the river gets and it even shows where the fish are swimming underneath us! Such a lovely time and a good laugh, can't thank Kerry and John enough for a unique and memorable trip. Highly recommend going and recommended booking ahead! Rest of the day was lovely, Café Stables has a great selection of sandwiches and sweet treats on offer! All the staff we encountered were helpful and friendly. We also enjoyed a game of "Putting" for £1pp. Spend most of the day exploring the grounds and will definitely come back to take in a guided tour.

The furniture in this stately home is gorgeous. They also have a lot of costumes & when we visited there was a display of miniature doll houses next to the tea room.

Thank you for your review. I am glad you liked the house, costume exhibition and miniatures.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Paxton House. We had an excellent tour guide to the house where all of the furniture, clothes etc were original and of the house or family. We walked the path by the river and got to the Union Bridge which is undergoing repair at the moment. Cafe was great and we appreciated the skills and creativity of the temporary exhibition of Dolls Houses and miniatures. Walks around the grounds, a peaceful garden. What more could you ask.

We visited Paxton House during our recent stay in the Scottish Borders we took the guided tour and garden options we had an amazing tour guide called Carol she was so informative and engaged our son and answered all his questions thank you. Garden's and the stables cafe were both extremely good definitely would recommend this place

Grandchildren loved the Fairies and Dragon treasure hunt. Great adventure playground. Beautiful grounds.

A beautiful house jn glorious surroundings. This wonderful house built in the Palladian style is a joy and easily recognisable as a family home, which it no longer is. The impressive furnishings by Chippendale are in perfect condition and display of 18th c. costume is breathtaking. Take a tour and enjoy the smewhat complex family history, in parts the making of a tragic novel. Sadly the visit was marred by the slightly chaotic catering, friendly but disorganised, I never received my coffee but the sandwich was delicious, do take care here

Bullpen comes to the rescue as Dodgers open trip with win over Nationals

After weeks of worrisome late-game blunders, there finally was redemption for the Dodgers bullpen Tuesday night.

On a night their starting pitcher failed to complete five innings, and their lineup managed only one run before the final couple of frames, it was five other numbers that keyed a 4-1 Dodgers win over Washington at Nationals Park.

0. 0. 0. 0. 0.

As in, the five goose eggs the Dodgers’ once-struggling bullpen put on the scoreboard.

“The bullpen,” manager Dave Roberts said, “was really good tonight.”

Entering the night, the unit had been anything but lately, emerging as one of the biggest concerns during the Dodgers’ underwhelming 13-11 start to the season.

The group was without injured right-handers Brusdar Graterol and Blake Treinen (the latter will begin a rehab assignment this week). It had compiled a 4.35 ERA through the opening month, the 10th-worst mark in the majors. And it had been a common culprit during a 3-6 homestand last week.

Glendale, Arizona, Wednesday, February 21, 2024 Los Angeles Dodgers' Walker Buehler.

Walker Buehler’s long-awaited Dodgers return might require more waiting

Struggling with consistency, Walker Buehler might need to make at least a couple more minor-league starts before he returns from Tommy John surgery.

April 23, 2024

But Tuesday against the rebuilding Nationals, relievers Michael Grove, Alex Vesia, Daniel Hudson and Evan Phillips helped the Dodgers overcome an early offensive lull, then hang on to a narrow lead late, combining for 4-1/3 scoreless innings in a victorious start to a nine-game trip.

“We’re always gonna be ready to go down there,” Phillips said.

While starter James Paxton surrendered just one run in his fourth start, the veteran left-hander again struggled with his command. He walked three batters (he has 17 this season) and struck out just one, forcing Roberts to replace him with one out in the fifth after 89 laborious pitches.

On the other side of the plate, the Dodgers’ lineup was kept silent by the Nationals’ own left-handed veteran, Patrick Corbin.

Last year Corbin’s 5.20 ERA was third worst in the majors among qualified starters. This season his 8.06 mark entering Tuesday ranked dead last, after he gave up five runs in 6⅓ innings at Dodger Stadium last week.

Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani watches the ball after hitting against the Giants Tuesday at Dodger Stadium.

Watch every home run Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani has hit this season

Watch every home run new Dodger Shohei Ohtani hits during the 2024 baseball season, starting with his first bomb against the Giants on April 3.

In his rematch against the Dodgers, though, the 34-year-old looked like his former All-Star self. He spun 5⅓ shutout innings. He walked three batters but gave up just three hits while collecting three strikeouts.

It was only once Corbin left the game that the Dodgers finally found life. Later in the sixth, they manufactured a two-out rally that culminated with Kiké Hernández’s tying single. In the eighth, James Outman put the Dodgers in front with an RBI double and Miguel Rojas singled him home. Then, in the ninth, Shohei Ohtani supplied an exclamation point with his sixth home run, clobbering a 450-foot, second-deck blast that exploded off his bat at 118.7 mph.

“It looks like a cruise missile,” Outman said. “That was absurd.”

Underpinning the entire performance was the bullpen.

Grove stranded the two runners he inherited from Paxton in the fifth, then got two outs — with a walk in between — in the sixth.

Vesia took over from there, stranding Grove’s runner with a deep flyout before returning to the mound for a scoreless seventh.

And once the Dodgers took the lead in the eighth — a rally that started with a single and steal from Teoscar Hernández — Roberts’ late-game decisions were easy.

Dodgers Dugout: Survey shows fans are solidly behind Dave Roberts

It wasn’t even close: Most fans believe in Dave Roberts and want him to remain manager of the Dodgers.

Hudson, the former Nationals closer who has returned from two injury-plagued seasons to become the Dodgers’ set-up man, worked around a two-out walk in the eighth to lower his ERA to 2.45.

Phillips had a more adventurous appearance in the ninth, loading the bases on three walks and a single — the Nationals ran into one out on the bases — before ultimately surviving with his sixth save and a sub-1.00 ERA.

“Fortunately,” a relieved Phillips said, “I was able to finish it out today.”

Indeed, and as he and the Dodgers celebrated in the handshake line, it was the bullpen at last that deserved the credit — and not the blame — in a close, low-scoring contest that wasn’t decided until the final innings.

River Cruise on Luxurious Radisson Boat

Equipped with ice-breaking technology, these huge fancy yachts are the only river cruisers running all year around. The round trip journey takes two and a half hours and floats past all the big sights like the White House, Novodevichy monastery and the Kremlin. There’s a large open air observation deck up top, while the main body of the ship houses a restaurant with a dance floor for a romantic post dinner dance. For a particularly romantic experience take one of the evening boats and admire the bright lights of the city skyline at night.

The most relaxing and picturesque tour that Moscow can offer: a great way to see the city center and its main attractions. This is a perfect alternative to exploring the city by car, if you only have time to do sightseeing during weekday rush hours.

Your English-speaking guide is eager to share every bit of their knowledge about the surrounding landscape, the architecture and historical details.

We conduct Moscow river tour on Radisson Flotilla boats all year around!  It’s warm inside during winter months, while there’s air conditioning during hot summer days. You may also treat yourself to drinks, lunch or dinner on board (drinks and food are not included in tour price).

Paxton House Boat Trip

i can thoroughly recommend the boat trips on the River Tweed from Paxton House. it was a very enjoyable trip this afternoon with the very experienced ‘skipper’ Kerry providing lots of interesting details about the river, the local history, the Union Bridge and the wildlife. we’ll definitely do it again!

House was not as impressive as I thought when looking at it from outside. Didn't go on tour inside as a sunny day. Nice walk along river and good children's park. Boat trip looked good but not a big boat so book quickly.

Had a lovely visit to the house and gardens whilst staying on the caravan site, not that we was over impressed with the campsite as it was within the walled gardens, so probably great shelter in bad weather but on a lovely sunny weekend it felt gemmed in (well you couldn’t see past 12ft walls). The house was lovely with guided tours so you have to make sure your there are the right time, hails was very knowledgeable and formative. We went on a walk around the gardens however as we didn’t have our reader and I was so sunny the we couldn’t see what the points were on the map (white on a powder blue background isn’t good on a sunny day). We did one of the walks and the sculptures was lovely, Entrances was one I particularly remember as thought provoking! The water wheel was only in use 2 hours so we didn’t see it running. There was lots to do (Pay to play) axe throwing, archery, shooting, abseiling/tree climbing, as well as treasures hunts, and play park with a huge slide. - Next to Paxton (1 mile up river) is the Union Bridge, is the first suspension bridge in the UK and spans from England to Scotland, next to Honey farm this bridge is well worth a visit whilst you are near - overall worth a visit and lovely on a nice day. My photos show things that are a bit different in the park and house

paxton house boat trip

We live in Berwick and love to come here for a walk beside the beautiful Tweed. The grounds are always lovely and children are made very welcome. However the cafe has been taken over by a different company so we were interested to see if it lived up to the previous high standard. I love caramel shortbread and have it everywhere I go but I actually left mine yesterday. It appeared to have been made by someone who had never seen caramel shortbread before and had an overwhelming taste of evaporated milk. The tea, cake and scones that members of our party had were fine but 2 of us had cappuccinos that were lukewarm and extremely milky, my daughter took these back and a different person made more which were much better. The staff have had 3 weeks to learn to use the coffee machine so there is really no excuse. Probably other people would have left their coffees without complaining but won't return. Because I love this place I want it to do well. ☹☹☹ 5 stars for the house and grounds 1 star for the cafe.

I had never heard of Paxton House, but was bought a gift experience from a friend for a guided tour and afternoon tea as she knows I love stately homes and cake :) The guided tour was excellent - it ran to around 1 hr 20 mins and we were lucky that we were a very small group, so really felt we had the house to ourselves (they only run guided tours in the house, rather than letting people roam free!). The guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. The house was really surprising in terms of its history and its many interesting rooms. Its famous for its Chippendale furniture, of which it has around 120 pieces. We really did enjoy it thoroughly! The afternoon tea runs between 2 - 4 and I had pre booked a table, so we arrived to a reserved table set with nice china. There is no advertised menu, and we expected to be told what we would be served first - however we were seated and then brought 2 cake stands, with sandwiches, pastries and cakes and a pot of tea. The food was perfectly nice, but I would have substituted a few items due to dietary requirements - so probably something to mention up front if you are the same! The ground were pretty - but the paths down to the river are quite uneven and in some places have a large gradient. It wouldn't be suitable for a pushchair or someone with mobility issues. However we didn't explore the whole estate by any means, so probably worth asking in advance how much is accessible if this is an issue for you.

Booking through Pitch Up for an overnight in our motorhome, very straight forward and informative process. Great pitch, excellent facilities for fresh water and waste disposal. No showers but that is explained. Wonderful forest/fairy walk with the dog through the grounds. Lead rules apply of course, so no problem for our old lady. She is a regal lurcher who takes it easy, aged 12yrs.Fantastic river views. The café was good quality and fair prices. The salmon mayo was super delicious. The house offers discount if you are staying and looks very worthwhile, we will be coming back in the future. The history of the house is very interesting with working pumps showing the old way to get safe drinking water and an ice house that is amazing. The cattle look like bison and then I worked out why they stayed in their field, very clever landscaping. We had a great time. All staff were welcoming and hospitable.
