Are you wary of chaotic beaches in Mumbai and Goa? If yes, just drive down to this out of the radar beach called Shrivardhan Beach. It is located in a town called Shrivardhan in the Raigad District state of Maharashtra. The long white pristine coastline here is most idyllic for a timeout from hectic schedules of modern life and the best weekend getaways.
The beach lies between two popular destinations Harihareshwar beach and Diveagar beach. Some people have a misconception that Shrivardhan Fort is near this beach but both are different places with just a common name on the Konkan coast.
Shrivardhan is well-maintained as compared to the nearby beaches. The crowd is also less and one can enjoy peace here. The government has built a small Promenade with seating capacities so that even the elderly can enjoy the view. There are also flowering plants lamps, toilets and changing rooms for swimmers.
Be there either in early morning hours or in the evening. The Spectacular sunsets of this beach are not to be missed! You can also take long walks on this beach around this hour. Cool breeze whistles through the palm fronds and the mango plantations nearby.
This beach is about 160kms away from Mumbai. This beach is also easily accessible on road from Pune. Hence this could your best bet for a long weekend. There are numerous places you can see nearby. Both the beaches mentioned above lie close by. One can also visit various temples like the Laxminarayan temple, Suvarna Ganesh temple and ancient temple nearby
Major Attraction
The major attractions on this 3 km beach are boating, swimming, and sailing. You can also indulge in water sports like paragliding and water surfing here. Kids can enjoy horse riding, camel riding, and Buggy riding. But please note that all these facilities can be availed only after the monsoon season. If you want to venture into the sea, local fishermen will gladly take you for dolphin sighting trips.
In the mood for an adventure? Then hire a small boat and go to the place where the Great Peshwas of Maharashtra resided. Also, try trekking on the cliffs around Shrivardhan.
Family trip or a trip with a loved one, you can enjoy yourself in both the scenarios. The beach is shallow and hence ideal for swimming, even for kids. Small food vendors sell local food, snacks, coconut water, and ice cream, which you can have while on the beach.
The area is the seafood lover’s paradise. Popular restaurants serve the best catch of the day, that too in Tongue-tangling varieties. You can taste fresh seafood in nearby Fisherman villages. Vegetarians need not worry! There are a plethora of options for you too.
There is live action at the Khalcha Jivana Port right at the end of the beach. Khalcha Jivana is a fishing dock where auctions take place. Every evening there is an auction of the fresh catch. Check out the diverse types of fish available in Konkan as fishermen and prospective traders haggle over the best prices. You can also interact with the fishermen and if they are willing, you can go with them at night for fishing.
As to accommodation, there are various homestay options near the beach. Resorts and cottages abound catering to all your budget concerns. There is a Government Guest House as well with minimal reservation charges for tourists.

Understand [ edit ]
Srivardhan (taluka) is an ancient place of historical importance and is mentioned as being visited by Arjuna Pandav on his pilgrimage. It is a well-known place for traders in the past. In the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries under Ahmadnagar and afterwards under Bijapur shrivardhan was a port of consequence. It appears in the accounts of leading European travellers as Ziffardan. In 1538 Dom Joao de Castro described it as with little water in the pier at low tide but inside large and roomy. [Primeiro Roteiro da Costa da India, 47.] It is notable as the birthplace of Balaji Visvanath, the first Pesva (1713-1720) who was the deshmukh of the town. In 1713 Srivardhan was one of the sixteen fortified places in the Konkan ceded by Balaji Visvanath Pesva to Kanhoji Ahgre of Kolaba. Balaji was the first Peshwa of the Maratha Empire appointed by Chhatrapati Shahu.
