Global soccer giants set to face off in major U.S. markets from July 22 – August 2

Series backed by new Sixth Street portfolio company built to bring epic soccer matchups to local fans around the world.

Santa Clara, CA ( May 12, 2023) – Soccer Champions Tour today announced the launch and schedule for a new series of games featuring six of the world’s most iconic soccer clubs to be played this summer in major markets across the United States. Spain’s Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, Italy’s Juventus and AC Milan, and England’s Arsenal and Manchester United will compete in eight matches between Saturday, July 22, and Wednesday, August 2, 2023.

The 2023 Soccer Champions Tour is the first time these six clubs, which hold among them 31 European trophies, have participated together in a U.S. series. The eight fixtures will take place in host market stadiums in Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Orlando, and San Francisco.

Highlights of the 2023 Soccer Champions Tour include Spanish giants Real Madrid and FC Barcelona meeting in Texas for the first time ever at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys; Manchester United and Real Madrid facing off for the first time since 2018; FC Barcelona and Arsenal competing in a rematch of the 2006 European final; and Italian rivals AC Milan and Juventus playing each other in California for the first time in their more than 120-year histories.

Soccer Champions Tour was created by a newly formed company of global investment firm Sixth Street to support the continued global growth of top-tier sports franchises by organizing high-profile, competitive events for the millions of fans that live outside the domestic markets of the biggest clubs.

“We are proud to be partnering with the world’s most storied clubs, which have the world’s strongest and most passionate supporters, to provide this rare opportunity for American fans to experience the game at the highest level,” said Alan Waxman, Co-Founder and CEO at Sixth Street. “While this year’s tour consists of men’s clubs, we look forward to expanding next summer to bring the world’s best women’s clubs to local audiences around the globe, and in the future to evolve this series into a format with real games of consequence.”

In addition to men’s and women’s professional club matches, the tour also intends to organize elite youth academy competitions in the years to come.

Soccer Champions Tour is working closely with global premium experiences company Legends to bring these marquee matchups and elevated in-game experiences to local fans of the game.

Added Shervin Mirhashemi, CEO, Legends: “Legends is proud to bring fans of the beautiful game this unforgettable experience this summer and deliver a fan experience that will match the world-class soccer on the pitch. We can’t wait to see stadiums filled across the United States with fans cheering on some of the best clubs in the world as they compete in the Soccer Champions Tour.”

The 2023 Soccer Champions Tour is being produced in partnership with AEG, the world’s leading sports and live entertainment company.

“AEG is excited about the partnership with Soccer Champions Tour and Legends to bring the most successful soccer clubs in the world to fans across the U.S.,” said Tom Braun, Sr. Vice President, Soccer & Business Operations and Business Development at AEG. “Every matchup in this series is of the highest caliber and we’re thrilled that American soccer fans will have the opportunity to see these epic games featuring legendary teams live and in person.”

Another preseason Clasico, Barcelona-Real Madrid, coming to U.S. this summer

In what has become a burgeoning, money-making tradition , FC Barcelona and Real Madrid will bring their renowned rivalry to the United States for a second consecutive summer.

They'll play El Clasico, as its known, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on July 29, as part of the second-year Soccer Champions Tour.

It will be a preseason match, of course. The tour — which will also feature Manchester United , Arsenal , Juventus and AC Milan — is not a tournament like some of its predecessors were. It is essentially eight one-off games, smack-dab in the middle of the Women's World Cup, billed by organizers as a "summer series" that will span California, Las Vegas, Texas and Florida.

But the headliner is the game of all games, perhaps the world's most celebrated sporting rivalry, at the grandiose stadium of all grandiose stadiums, Jerry World, the 105,000-seat home of the Dallas Cowboys that aspires to host the 2026 World Cup final .

El Clasico comes to the U.S.

When Barca and Madrid first brought their blood feud to the U.S. in 2017, the concept was ridiculed by some purists; but the exhibition game, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, was a roaring success. The Miami Clasico drew 1.7 million viewers on ESPN platforms and a sellout crowd willing to pay several hundreds of dollars apiece for tickets. Players competed, genuinely. A 3-2 Barcelona win thrilled everybody involved.

It felt, at the time, like a watershed moment for the International Champions Cup , the preseason event that grew to 18 teams and 27 games spread across nine countries late last decade. In early 2020, organizers were in negotiations to inaugurate Southern California’s SoFi Stadium with a second stateside Clasico that summer.

But then came COVID-19. The ICC canceled its 2020 programming, fizzled during the pandemic, and devolved into a legal dispute between its parent company, Relevent Sports, and its mastermind, the legendary soccer promoter Charlie Stillitano. The men's ICC has not been played since.

Relevent still runs a women’s ICC and other ventures. This summer, it is working with England 's Premier League and Spain 's La Liga on two separate North American tours. But in 2022, the Soccer Champions Tour swooped in for Barca and Madrid, and organized a Clasico at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. (Barca won, 1-0, in front of a boisterous, sellout crowd.)

In its second year, the Soccer Champions Tour has expanded to feature two clubs each from Spain, England and Italy . Sixth Street, a global investment firm that has partnered with both Barca and Real Madrid , is the company behind it. AEG is producing it. Legends is a key partner. And Stillitano, according to a source with knowledge of the tour's evolution, has been involved as a consultant.

Preseason tour schedules

The Soccer Champions Tour announced its full 2023 slate Friday:

Saturday, July 22: Barcelona vs. Juventus — Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, California

Sunday, July 23: Real Madrid vs. AC Milan — Rose Bowl, Pasadena, California

Wednesday, July 26: Arsenal vs. Barcelona — SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, California

Wednesday, July 26: Real Madrid vs. Manchester United — NRG Stadium, Houston

Thursday, July 27: Juventus vs. AC Milan — Dignity Health Sports Park, Carson, California

Saturday, July 29: Barcelona vs. Real Madrid — AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Texas

Tuesday, August 1: AC Milan vs Barcelona — Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas

Wednesday, August 2: Juventus vs. Real Madrid — Camping World Stadium, Orlando

Kickoff times haven’t yet been determined. In their Friday news release, organizers said that “the matches remain subject to approval by the relevant football authorities,” but that is likely a formality.

Separately, Arsenal and Manchester United have organized a preseason friendly at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 22. United is also set to play Wrexham on July 25 in San Diego — presumably with a reserve team, because one day later, it is now scheduled to play Real Madrid in Houston. It then plays Borussia Dortmund on July 30 in Vegas .

Arsenal will also play the MLS All-Stars on July 19 in Washington, D.C.

The Premier League's own "summer series" will feature Chelsea , Newcastle, Aston Villa , Fulham , Brighton and Brentford, with games in Philadelphia, Atlanta, Orlando, New Jersey and Maryland.

Santa Clara, Pasadena, Inglewood, Houston, Carson, Arlington, Las Vegas and Orlando are the eight chosen locations.

It is the first time the six European teams — who have won a combined 31 European titles — have participated in a U.S. series together.

Manchester United will play Real Madrid at NRG Stadium in Houston while Arsenal will face Barcelona at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood.

“AEG is excited about the partnership with Soccer Champions Tour and Legends to bring the most successful soccer clubs in the world to fans across the U.S.,” said Tom Braun, the senior vice-president for soccer and business operations at AEG. Braun oversaw a five-game tour July that drew more than 93,000 fans to the Rose Bowl to see Real Madrid beat Juventus.

That was the largest crowd for a soccer match in the U.S. since July 2018.

Alex Waxman, co-founder and CEO of Sixth Street, said the company has plans to expand the tour to include women’s teams.

“While this year’s tour consists of men’s clubs, we look forward to expanding next summer to bring the world’s best women’s clubs to local audiences around the globe and to evolve this series into a format with real games of consequence.”

Presale tickets for the tour will go on sale on May 16 at SoccerChampionsTour.com with general on-sale access beginning on May 19 at the same website.

Soccer Champions Tour 2023 full schedule

The teams involved cannot all play each other as it isn't practical for each club's pre-season commitments. Manchester United will only play one game as part of the Soccer Champions Tour, while others will face more opponents.

Real and Barca look like the headliners of the tournament, playing four games each, more than anyone else.

The major fixture is El Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid in Texas, but Juventus vs AC Milan in a new setting will be interesting and there is always a certain allure about Real Madrid vs Man Utd.

This tournament was created by Sixth Street and there is a stated aim of spreading it to the women's game in the future.

"We are proud to be partnering with the world's most storied clubs, which have the world's strongest and most passionate supporters, to provide this rare opportunity for American fans to experience the game at the highest level," said Alan Waxman, co-founder and CEO at Sixth Street.

"While this year's tour consists of men's clubs, we look forward to expanding next summer to bring the world's best women's clubs to local audiences around the globe, and in the future to evolve this series into a format with real games of consequence."

How to watch the Soccer Champions Tour 2023

ESPN+ will be the home of the Soccer Champions Tour in the United States if you can't get to the games in person. As for Canada, DAZN is the place to be to see Man Utd, Barcelona, Real Madrid and the rest in action.

For fans in the United Kingdom, club-specific channels - which often require a subscription fee - are the way to go. Channels like Sky Sports and TNT Sports never tend to advertise friendlies of this nature.

Real Madrid landed in LA to begin their tour of the States. EFE

Real Madrid landed in Los Angeles to kick off their pre-season tour of the United States , which will feature a 'Clasico' in Dallas against Barcelona .

The Spanish giants arrived after a 12-hour flight, not long after Barca , who also travelled on Wednesday to the City of Stars as part of their own pre-season tour.

"Los Angeles, we're HERE!", tweeted Madrid's official account at 3am on Thursday with a photo of Jude Bellingham arriving in Hollywood.

Several players like Vinicius Jr, Thibaut Courtois, Eder Militao and Rodrygo , who had extra days of holiday after representing their countries in international qualifiers and friendlies, did not fly with the team but will meet their team directly at their LA hotel .

  July 20, 2023

Training in Los Angeles will begin on Thursday at UCLA , where Carlo Ancelotti's side trained last year.

Although they will be in Los Angeles at the same time, it will be difficult for Madrid and Barcelona to coincide in the Californian city as 'Los Blancos' have opted for the west (around Beverly Hills and Westwood), while the Catalans will stay in the centre (Intercontinental Los Angeles Downtown Hotel) and will train at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum (the stadium of the 1932 and 1984 Olympic Games).

With 25 players called up, Madrid will play their first friendly of this tour at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Los Angeles County, against Milan .

The team will be in Los Angeles until Tuesday 25th . From there, they will travel to Houston to face Manchester United . They will then head to Dallas to take on the aforementioned 'Clasico' against Barcelona on Saturday 29th and, finally, they will face Juventus before returning to Spain.

Real Madrid's Ancelotti: I'll try out formation switch on U.S. tour

Brazil President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva wonders why Carlo Ancelotti has never been Italy manager. (0:28)

Carlo Ancelotti has said he plans to trial a new formation during Real Madrid 's U.S. tour this month, as the coach looks to fit new arrivals like Jude Bellingham into the team ahead of the 2023-24 season.

A busy summer so far has seen midfielder Bellingham, forward Joselu , playmakers Arda Guler and Brahim Díaz and full-back Fran García join Madrid, while Karim Benzema , Marco Asensio , Eden Hazard and Mariano Díaz all departed as their contracts expired.

- Stream on ESPN+: LaLiga, Bundesliga, more (U.S.)

"When I started coaching I had a clear idea, and I didn't adapt to the players I had," Ancelotti told a news conference on Friday, when asked if he'd consider a change of system.

"I had an experience at Parma, where [Roberto] Baggio wanted to play as a playmaker and I didn't change the system. He went to another team. And I was wrong."

Madrid's summer business means the squad is currently overloaded in midfield, with at least seven players -- Bellingham, Toni Kroos , Luka Modric , Eduardo Camavinga , Aurélien Tchouaméni , Federico Valverde and Dani Ceballos -- all competing for places.

Ancelotti has tended to favour a 4-3-3 formation throughout his time at Madrid, but there has been speculation that Bellingham's signing could signal a switch to a midfield diamond.

"At Juventus , with [Zinedine] Zidane, I started to understand that it's better to adapt to the players," Ancelotti said. "Players have to feel comfortable. I adapted and I'm still adapting.

"This year we might play a different system. The system we have played with has been very successful, but we can try a new style. We're going to try it on the tour. It's a good time to do so."

The Italian praised the impact of Bellingham, 20, in preseason training so far, after his €103 million ($115.9m) signing from Borussia Dortmund .

"He's different to the other midfielders we have," Ancelotti said. "We are very happy that he's with us. He raises the level at Real Madrid. He works hard, he's doing well and he will play on the tour."

Madrid will kick off their involvement in the Soccer Champions Tour when facing AC Milan in Pasadena, California, on July 23 before playing Manchester United in Houston on July 26, Barcelona in Arlington, Texas, on July 29 and Juventus in Orlando, Florida, on Aug. 2.

Barca were crowned LaLiga champions last season, finishing 10 points clear of second-placed Madrid.

"It doesn't matter where [the Clasico with Barcelona] is played, there are no friendlies in a game like this," Ancelotti said. "It's always a special match.

"We saw it last year in a fantastic atmosphere and I'm sure we'll see it this year in Dallas... There are no friendlies between Real Madrid and Barcelona and there never will be."

A tour of the United States has been Madrid's preferred preseason itinerary in recent years. Ancelotti praised the "fantastic" facilities at the University of California, Los Angeles, where Madrid will begin training next week.

"Football in the U.S. has to compete with very popular sports," he said. "The signing of [Lionel] Messi by Inter Miami could help its standing... I have a bad memory of the Rose Bowl [where Madrid will play Milan] because I lost the 1994 World Cup final against Brazil there. I'm sure there will be a good atmosphere."

LaLiga US tour excludes Barca, Real Madrid due to Super League

kyle fansler

by Kyle Fansler April 13, 2023

real madrid tour 2023 usa

LaLiga is organizing a summer tour in the US and Mexico that features four teams. Notably, that set of four teams does not include the two most popular teams in the Spanish top flight, Real Madrid and Barcelona . Instead, the four clubs traveling with LaLiga are Atletico Madrid , Sevilla, Real Sociedad and Real Betis.

An announcement from LaLiga North America stated that those four teams will play a total of four games. Intercity rivals Sevilla and Betis play one another in Guadalajara on Aug. 2. On the same day in Monterrey, Atletico Madrid takes on Real Sociedad. Three days later, there is a doubleheader in San Francisco at Oracle Park, the home of MLB’s San Francisco Giants. Atletico faces Sevilla, and Sociedad battles Betis.

The set of games are a bid to boost the growing presence of LaLiga in North America . However, there may be concerns over how effective this competition can be without titans like Barcelona and Real Madrid. Right now, LaLiga and those two clubs have a tense relationship. Both still are pushing to make the European Super League happen, which is a concept LaLiga is firmly against.

In a LaLiga statement in February 2023, league president Javier Tebas said the Super League will wreak havoc on domestic leagues.

“Domestic leagues run the risk of disappearing with a Super League format,” Tebas said . “If their model is based on ‘several divisions’, with an elite group ensuring they stay in the top flight, their model is not 100 percent open as they falsely promise.”

LaLiga US tour goes against Barcelona and Real Madrid

The LaLiga tour going on without Barcelona and Real Madrid could damage the popularity of the games, particularly in the United States. While there are representatives from El Tri on Real Betis and Sevilla, these four clubs do not have the same impact of UEFA Champions League-winning clubs such as Barcelona or Real Madrid.

Even worse, both clubs are planning games in the United States for the summer of 2023. That includes a potential third Clásico in the United States . Real Madrid played Barcelona in Miami in 2017, then they played again in Las Vegas this past summer. Both of those games, which were fairly independent from LaLiga, were massive successes . The Miami game brought in 1.7 million viewers on ESPN .

TV coverage and tickets for the LaLiga tour across the US and Mexico are still not available. Yet, based on LaLiga North America’s deal with Relevent, LaLiga now has production studios in Mexico, and the league has a media rights deal with ESPN, where most of the LaLiga TV schedule features on ESPN+.

The fact that Real Madrid and Barcelona are not involved in LaLiga’s official summer tour of the United States is a concern. With LaLiga battling against the popularity of the Premier League and Liga MX in the United States, LaLiga needs a united front. Instead, the split between the top two clubs and LaLiga is a detriment to what could have been so much bigger and better.

FC Barcelona return to the United States for preseason tour

FC Barcelona return to the United States for preseason tour

The FC Barcelona men’s first team will repeat the last season’s destination and travel once again to the United States for their preseason tour, BARÇA ON TOUR: US 2023, in which they will play a total of four matches, all against European opposition. The first two games will be played in California; 22 July against Juventus in Santa Clara, San Francisco Bay Area, and on 26 July against Arsenal FC. The last two games will take place in Dallas Texas, for the clash with Real Madrid on 29 July and in Las Vegas where the tour will conclude with a game against AC Milan.

The US Summer Tour 2022 saw the Barça play on the East Coast with games in Miami and New York – as well as games in Las Vegas and Dallas – cities which hosted the majority of the Club’s institutional and social activities. This year the geographical emphasis has shifted to the West Coast where the majority of the Club’s activities will take place and where they will play three of their four scheduled games.

mini_3200x2000_web

The blaugranes’ debut on the tour will come on 22 July against Juventus in the Levis Stadium, Santa Clara in San Francisco, home of the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers. It will be the third time that Barça have played at the venue which has room for 68,000 fans following matches against Manchester United in 2015 and AC Milan in 2018. The most recent encounter between Barça and Juventus came in a friendly last season on tour, the game ended in a 2-2 draw.

The other games in California will come against Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side on 26 July in the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Los Angeles, a venue opened in 2020 with a capacity of 70,000 and the ground where the Los Angeles Chargers and Los Angeles Rams of the NFL play their home matches. The fixture between the two sides will be their first in seven seasons, the last meeting having come in the last sixteen of the UEFA Champions League in 2016 in which Barça won 2-0 in London and 3-1 at Spotify Camp Nou. The game will also be the first on American soil between the two clubs.

Another Clásico in Arlington, Texas

The summer tour this year will also include one of the most awaited matches for the fans, the Clásico, the third meeting between Barça and Real Madrid in the USA. He game will take place at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas which has a capacity of 80,000 and is home to the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys. The venue is one that Barça have visited twice previously; in 2011 against Manchester United and in 2018 against AS Roma. In their two previous games against Real Madrid in the US, Barça have come out on top both times: winning 3-2 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami in 2017 and 1-0 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas in 2022.

The Allegiant Stadium, which holds 65,000 fans, will be the venue for the final game of the tour for Xavi Hernández’s men against AC Milan, the third game on the west coast. The two teams have met on two previous occasions on US soil with a 2-0 win for Barça in 2003 in Washington and a 1-0 win for the Italians in 2018 in Santa Clara.

These four games during BARÇA ON TOUR: US 2023 are part of the Soccer Champions Tour, a tournament put together by Sixth Street in collaboration with Legends and AEG, and in which, aside from Barça and their four opponents on the tour, Manchester United will also be participating.

The USA, a popular destination for blaugrana preseason

This summer’s tour will be the 14 th in FC Barcelona history to the USA (the first in 1937 was key in the Club’s survival), a country that has become a popular destination in recent years with tours taking place in 2011, 2015, 2017, 2018, the latter being a joint tour with the women’s team, as well as 2019 and 2022.

In fact, the North American market in a key priority for the globalisation and expansion the Barça brand. Football is undergoing a great period of growth in the USA that trend will hopefully continue with the next World Cup in 2026 taking place on North American soil. Furthermore, FC Barcelona opened a US office in New York in 2016 and continues its efforts to build a greater connection with its existing fans and win more followers and reach agreements with local sponsors to help develop even further the country’s footballing ecosystem.

Real madrid 3-2 barcelona: jude bellingham the hero again.

  • Nicholas Mendola ,
  • Nicholas Mendola

Real Madrid twice came back before Jude Bellingham won it all in stoppage time of a 3-2 win over Barcelona at the Bernabeu, a tremendous El Clasico helping Real put a vice-like grip on La Liga.

Real deliver a rare three-match season sweep of Barca, having beaten the Blaugranas home and away as well as in the Spanish Super Cup.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men move to 81 points to open up a 10-point lead atop the table, and third-place Girona (68 points) is even further behind than second-place Catalan pals Barca.

[ MORE: 10 things we learned from Week 34 of the Premier League ]

It was an entertaining Clasico , one more open than usual thanks to the weary legs given both sides by midweek Champions League second legs. An injury to Frenkie de Jong before halftime helped change the tone of the game.

Real found itself trailing on goals from Andreas Christensen and Fermin Lopez, getting equalizers from Vinicius Junior and Lucas Vazquez.

Real, still alive for a treble, was celebrating a triumph over Manchester City while Barcelona exited a day earlier in ugly fashion to Paris Saint-Germain, and moods will not have shifted much after this one.

Barca free kick, corners lead to Vini break

Lamine Yamal is surrounded by three Real defenders and wins a free kick off of Antonio Rudiger.

The kick comes from the right edge of the 18.

Ilkay Gundogan plays it short and a shot is blocked. It leads to another corner.

Gundogan again. The ball falls for Joao Felix, who makes a mess of it.

It’s a quick restart from Lunin and Vini Jr is 1v1 with Ter Stegen but denied by the keeper.

GOAL! Lucas Vazquez — Real Madrid 2-2 Barcelona (73rd minute)

Joao Cancelo is out to lunch, as Vini Jr’s cross to the back post is met by a wide-open right back Lucas Vazquez.

GOAL! Fermin Lopez — Real Madrid 1-2 Barcelona (69th minute)

Lamine Yamal takes a left-footed effort from the left edge of the box, and Ferran Torres tries to redirect it past Lunin.

The keeper pushes it centrally, where Fermin reacts quickly to make it 2-1.

Real made a sub, left back Fran Garcia entering for Camavinga.

FERMIN LOPEZ PUTS BARCA 2-1 AHEAD IN ELCLASICO AND CELEBRATES RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE REAL MADRID FANS 🥶 pic.twitter.com/lyHmUWtkZA — ESPN FC (@ESPNFC) April 21, 2024

Ferran Torres and Joao Felix enter with under a half-hour to play, as they take the places of Lewandowski and Raphinha.

Ancelotti has yet to make a change for Real.

Fermin Lopez came in for Christensen at the break, and Barca’s lack of depth is on display. Ferran Torres and Joao Felix are attack options, while Oriol Romeu and Marcos Alonso would welcome the chance to shore up the side.

Real would be content with the point that comes from this match but can turn to Joselu, Brahim Diaz, Dani Ceballo, and Arda Guler if they want to get after a win. Defensive options are deep, as mentioned earlier in the updates.

Halftime — Real Madrid 1-1 Barcelona

Real should be leading, as Barca is hunting a win and taking big chances in a bid to get back in front.

The xG favors Real by quite a bit but Barca’s shown danger attacking wide and the hosts have looked poor defending set pieces.

Frenkie de Jong was injured before halftime and Pedri will take his place. That’s a huge loss but also a big change in styles, as — to make a Man City comparison — De Jong might be the closest thing to Rodri in the world while Pedri’s more of a Bernardo Silva.

Real’s clever play leads to Modric chance

Luka Modric can’t get enough power off a pretty combination play at the edge of the 18, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen stoops to collect an easy effort.

Yellow card to Camavinga

Yamal gets behind the Real back line again, and Eduardo Camavinga gets to him with a hand on the shoulder.

It’s a yellow card and a free kick on the very edge of the 18. Raphinha blazes over.

Ferland Mendy, Eder Militao, Nacho Fernandez, and Dani Carvajal are all on the bench if Carlo Ancelotti wants to move away from his midfielders in the back line.

Lewandowski just misses, then Lunin (and VAR) denies Lamal

It’s almost 2-1 off another corner kick, but Lewandowski heads over the bar.

This after Real looked much more likely to find the game’s third goal.

Then Lamine Yamal flicks a corner toward goal and Lunin is judged to have got the ball just before it crossed the line.

VAR is having a look at it now, and the angles are brutal. Hard to say this can be conclusive either way, and so we play on at 1-1.

Real Madrid penalty, GOAL! Real Madrid 1-1 Barcelona (18th minute)

Cancelo is cooked by Vazquez, and young Barca star Pau Cubarsi leaves his leg low to try to block a pass.

Instead, Vazquez makes sure to make contact with a dangled leg and a penalty is awarded.

Vini finished. We’re 1-1.

Vini Jr nearly answers

Tchouameni chops a pass toward the box and Luka Modric flicks a header onto the path of Vinicius Junior.

The superstar will usually put chances like this on goal but Vini misses his mark and it stays 1-0.

GOAL! Real Madrid 0-1 Barcelona (6th minute)

The midweek hero is an early game goat.

Barca win a corner and the service is swept over the six-yard box.

Andriy Lunin, so good at Man City in midweek, cannot reach the ball and Andreas Christensen rises well above Toni Kroos to head the ball home.

1-0 to the Blaugranas .

Anything possible in a Clasico

Real Madrid have a healthy table lead and can basically put the clamps on another La Liga triumph, while Barcelona is stumbling after a letdown of a second leg versus PSG in the Champions League.

Real would be fine with a draw, and Barca need three points. But once the ball is kicked, there’s a certain surrender to the occasion. Here we go!

Real Madrid lineup

Lunin, Vazquez, Tchouameni, Rudiger, Camavinga, Modric, Valverde, Kroos, Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo, Bellingham.

Barcelona lineup

Ter Stegen, Cancelo, Kounde, Christensen, Cubarsi, Araujo, De Jong, Gundogan, Yamal, Raphinha, Lewandowski

Real Madrid focus, team news

Karim who? Jude Bellingham (16 goals), Vinicius Junior (12), and Rodrygo (10) have all been solid in La Liga play to pick up the burden left by Karim Benzema’s departure for Saudi Arabia. Toni Kroos and Fede Valverde lead pace the team in assists, while Antonio Rudiger and Nacho Fernandez supply a super center back pair.

Thibaut Courtois and David Alaba are dealing with long-term injuries and will not play Sunday.

Barcelona focus, team news

Real Madrid 2024 USA pre-season tour: Where is Real Madrid playing this summer in the US?

Los blancos confirmed a pre-season tour of the united states, but where are their games and when will they be played.

Joe Brennan

El Clásico is, once again, coming to the US . Real Madrid confirmed their plans to host a pre-season tour in the United States and will travel across the country showcasing the squad of the 14-time Champions League winners in what has become something of a tradition for the club. Carlo Ancelotti’s side have travelled to the US before, but this year will see them embark on their most exciting tour yet .

Madrid are currently fighting for the LaLiga title and the Champions League, but as soon as their season finishes, plans will be put into action to get the squad rested and recovered for the new season .

🇺🇸 Our USA SUMMER TOUR presented by @HP 1️⃣ 31/07 vs @ACMilan (Chicago) 2️⃣ 03/08 vs @FCBarcelona (New York) 3️⃣ 06/08 vs @ChelseaFC (Charlotte) ⚽ Soccer Champions Tour 24 pic.twitter.com/C5XaN9shPJ — Real Madrid C.F. 🇬🇧🇺🇸 (@realmadriden) March 19, 2024

AC Milan, 31 July, Soldier Field Stadium, Chicago

Madrid’s first match in the Soccer Champions Tour 2024 will be against legendary Italian side, AC Milan . Stefano Pioli’s side have been a force to be reckoned with in recent seasons, having seen players such as Christian Pulisic take a huge leap forward and propel them to second in Serie A.

Madrid played against AC Milan in a pre-season friendly in 2021 , where the two sides were held to a goalless draw in Austria. The game was David Alaba’s debut in the Madridista shirt. More recently, the two sides played in 2023, with the Spaniards coming away with a slim 3-2 win, thanks to a late Vinicius Jr goal.

Barcelona, 3 August, MetLife Stadium, New York

The second game to be played will be the big one. Barcelona and Real Madrid will play each other in a US El Clásico at the end of July in New York’s MetLife Stadium . The last time the world’s biggest fixture was brought stateside, it was a whitewash from the Catalans, who saw Dembelé, Fermín and Ferran scored to make it 3-0 in a game that saw Ancelotti’s side have a whopping 29 shots.

🤩🇺🇸 We're going back to the USA! 🙌 Introducing our 2024 USA Summer Tour, presented by @HP pic.twitter.com/anWi51fuHw — Real Madrid C.F. 🇬🇧🇺🇸 (@realmadriden) March 19, 2024

Chelsea, 6 August, Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte

Real Madrid have plenty of recent history with Chelsea . They played back in the Champions League in the 21/22 season, with Los Blancos securing a memorable passage through to the semi-finals in extremis . Since then, the fortunes of both clubs have gone in opposite directions, with Real Madrid vying for the title while the London club struggling for form domestically and finding themselves in mid-table in the Premier League standings , behind the likes of Fulham and West Ham United.

A total of five teams will take part in the tournament . As well as the teams that Real Madrid will face in their part of the tour, Manchester City will also be involved , taking on both Barcelona and AC Milan.

Given the busy summer , Ancelotti’s team will have an extraordinarily short training camp , which will not take place in the usual UCLA training camp. The Euros take place between June 14 and July 14; the Olympic Games are from July 26 to August 11; the possible European Super Cup is set to be held on August 14, meaning the three matches instead of four will be played in a seven-day period .

Victory over Barcelona leaves Real Madrid 11 points clear at the top of La Liga.

It is now a moment of 'when' rather than 'if' when it comes to Real Madrid getting their hands on the La Liga title. An 11-point gap with six games remaining in domestic competition means that their coronation is close.

Los Blancos will have to wait until May before they can get their hands on the title, even if they beat Real Sociedad on Friday and both Barcelona and Girona lose in their respective matches.

With that said, it could be the first game in May, sandwiched between the first and second leg of their Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich, where Real Madrid are crowned champions.

Real Madrid could seal the title on Saturday, May 4th, should they beat Real Sociedad this weekend and then see off Cádiz at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, but only if Barcelona fail to beat Girona in their fixture.

Should Barcelona emerge victorious from Girona, or if Real Madrid slip up, they will have to wait until the following weekend, when Real Madrid travel to Granada on matchday 35.

Real Madrid's remaining La Liga fixtures

The Champions League will be Real Madrid's main focus between now and the end of the season with two semi-final fixtures against Bayern Munich on April 30th and May 8th, but there are also six La Liga games to be played.

Huawei s pura 70 ultra beats iphone with pioneering new feature, meet the fintech billionaire making a fortune rewarding home renters.

That starts on Friday, April 26th, against Real Sociedad with a tricky visit to the Reale Arena. The leaders will be optimistic, however, given La Real's record of only one win in their last six home games.

Following that, relegation-battling Cádiz will arrive in the capital looking to upset the odds in what would be their first ever win at the Bernabéu.

Next up in La Liga are the team currently one place below Cádiz, Granada, who could be relegated by the time the two teams face one another.

Only a failure to win those three games will leave anything to play for in Real Madrid's final three games of the season, which involve a visit from Deportivo Alavés to Madrid, followed by an away trip to Villarreal and then ending the season on home turf against Real Betis on the final matchday.

Barcelona's remaining La Liga fixtures

The most likely scenario is that Madridistas end up tracking Barcelona results to see when they will win La Liga. That's because the Catalan side sit second in the league, two points ahead of neighbors Girona.

Should they drop points in any of their remaining fixtures, it could allow Real Madrid to seal the title earlier on, or it could mean that Girona become Real Madrid's closest rivals should they win their six remaining games.

Barcelona will play Valencia at home on matchday 33, followed by an important clash with Girona on May 4th. Failure to win there could gift the title to Real Madrid without them even kicking a ball.

To keep up the fight, Barcelona would then welcome Real Sociedad the following weekend, and if the title still isn't settled they'll have plenty to play for in away trips to the south of Spain to take on Almería and Sevilla either side of a home game against Rayo Vallecano.

Real Madrid could all but seal a La Liga title with a win over Barcelona in El Clásico on Sunday.

Madrid enters the match in first place, eight points above second-place Barça. Even a draw could be sufficient for Madrid, with both teams only having six matches remaining after this one.

Madrid is coming off a shootout triumph against Man City in the Champions League quarterfinal midweek, while Barcelona suffered a nightmare elimination against PSG.

These two teams have already met twice this season, with Madrid coming out on top both times.

Jude Bellingham scored a brace in the first league meeting in October, as Madrid won 2-1. Vinicius Jr. would then net a hat trick in Madrid’s 4-1 Spanish Super Cup final win in January.
