Incredibly frustrating customer service.

I have used this service once before and it worked fine.

This time around it did not end up going well at all.

The main issue was that I wanted the order to be delivered to a different address than my billing address! Last time this worked absolutely fine with no problems, no identity checks, no email exchanges, nothing.

This time around everything went wrong and it was the worst possible timing. They did not send out the order because they had to go through additional checks, forcing me to find a different solution with a different Travel Money exchange at the last minute on the day of my travels.

None of my details changed but this time they kept asking me to verify my identity and were constantly unhappy with any response that I gave. I ended up having an entire email exchange and sharing images of my passport without it resolving anything. As a result, since this was a time-sensitive order I have to go to a different Travel Money exchange and waste more money and time to get myself sorted out.

Additionally, I called them two times with only an answering machine that kept saying to call back later.

I even paid an extra 30 pounds to guarantee the order would come in good time. Involving the manager also did not aid me in my situation.

Finally, even now, on the day of my departure, they are asking for additional verification and saying we did not pass checks (so the order hasn't even left their main office).

Travel FX will do anything to avoid any responsibility for the client and to not refund them, I am appalled at this level of service given how many good reviews they have.

Ordered again recently as their rate for euros was by far the best rate around.

Easy to do,arranged the delivery date,paid by bank transfer. Immediate E mail confirming the order & subsequent receipt of my payment.

24 hrs prior to free delivery,E mail saying order being prepared & then another saying money despatched. Able to track the package via Royal Mail & delivered on the promised day.

Bought £750 worth of Euros

Ordered £750 of euros ( not my first transaction with Travelfx) but on this occasion the currency never arrived. I realize the fault lies at the door of the Royal Mail who acknowledge it has gone missing but my problem is that Travelfx will not reimburse me or replace the euros until the Royal Mail has finished it’s investigation. As this can take up to 30 days I am left £750 out of pocket and having to buy another lot of euros for my holiday.

Fantastic - Always the best exchange rates

Used Travel FX for many years and have never had a problem. 1st class service, best exchange rates with the currency always arriving on my selected day. If you order a large value (mine this time was over 3k) be prepared for interrogation by your bank !! I know the banks have to protect against fraud but Lloyds were an absolute joke on this, despite me telling them I'd used the company many times before. I was on the phone to Lloyds for an hour and 20 minutes, absolutely ridiculous. So if you need a large value I suggest doing it in two transactions which is what I'll be doing from now on. The issues with my bank have nothing to do with Travel FX and I'm glad I persisted. Currency arrived bang on time and we had a great holiday. Thanks Travel FX 🙂

Consistently good rates

Have used Travel fx 5 or 6 times now for Canadian Dollars. Consistently better rates than anywhere else. Being sent less than offered rate!

Got an agreed rate of £466, sent the money immediately and got a no-reply email saying I was getting £454, as this was reflective of today’s rate. I think that’s bad enough as I only went with them due to the rate offered, but to make it worse, “today’s rate” on their website was £461. You can’t get through to anyone by phone as the number just cuts you off! After spending £8 on postage, I really should have taken my money elsewhere and I’m not happy with the rate received.

My holiday euros are yet to arrive

My holiday euros are yet to arrive. The promise was next day by 1pm. I ordered on Saturday - Monday order still hasn't arrived and its Thursday! The charge of £5 takes it to a similar conversion rate within town. Not at all good service and causing stress. In reply - this wasn't my preferred date but the earliest date available for the next day delivery I am still awaiting the euros. Much less stress to buy exchange locally. This I will do next time.

Excellent service all round

Excellent service. I had never ordered travel money online before, but saw Travel FX through money saving expert and with a good rate I went ahead. Transaction was painless and the currency arrived the day I had requested, which was over 3 weeks since placing the order. The currency rate had flucuated but the transaction was locked in at the rate on buying. Correspondence was good from travel FX and they offered to buy back any currency unused (unfortunately none left :)) I will recommend and will use again for future travel plans.

“Well they worked well for me”

Not sure about all the other reviews, made me think hard but I know that some companies pay for trolls to post negative reviews. Ordered Euros on a Tuesday and arrived on Thursday, though their website says it would take longer. Anyway great exchange rate, no issues, though I would not do a rush purchase this way. If you need next day go in person to a bank! Also I was concerned about no Bank verification when pay over money, did not make me feel at all comfortable! Why they would not sort this out is beyond me. Also Trustpilot appear to have a much better selection of reviews and many more, so I suspct the reviews on this site are maybe not very trust worthy.

“Scammers- beware!”

I have used Travel FX in the past with no issues and their rates have always been reasonable BUT everyone should be aware of their new scam. I ordered the equivalent of £300 of Indonesian, Malaysian, Thailand and Singapore money just so my friend and I can have a bit of cash on us when we travel to the far east on a cruise we were going on. Plus $2000 to spend on the ship. A few days prior to my order, I received an email from travel Fx encouraging me to pay them by bank transfer. Sounded like good idea as it would save the credit card fees. When I tried to do the transfer, my bank blocked it and flagged the transaction as potential fraud. I called the bank and they tried to warn me not to do the transaction. I was confused why not. I contacted travel fx who basically reassured me there was no issue. Because like everyone else, I have had good experiences before, I ignored my bank and authorised payment of almost £3000. To cut a long story short, on receiving payment, travel fx refused to send my currency unless I provided them documentation which included my date of birth, national insurance number, address, bank account details, evidence of where I worked, how much I earned, where the money came from, my flight details etc. Not only that, they asked me to send this via normal unsecured YAHOO email. They claimed this was to meet their MONEY LAUNDERING obligations and illegal activities from HMRC. I said I would send most of the necessary information via a secure platform not email but they insisted they needed all my details. On speaking to my bank and others I was advised not to give them more than the statement from where the money came and my flight and hotel details. This was still not enough so I had to cancel the transaction. However they charged me almost £200 to do the cancellation. Someone should please let me into the trick of how to do illegal activities in a country with £150 per person! I should have listened to my bank. If you must use them, use a credit or debit card. You have been warned.

You will also need to provide a copy of a utility bill (not mobile phone) or bank statement dated within the last three months that shows your home address.
