  • You can download from the sims 3 store or go out and buy some expansions for the game most of them if not all of them have a new town included. i know ambitions and late night offer new towns and content. ranma2038 - 13 years ago - report 4   2
  • There are a couple ways. If you want to create your own world follow these steps. 1) Log in to your Sims account (the online one in the launcher) 2) Go to the Exchange, hit 'Free Stuff' and then 'Create a World' 3) Agree to the Terms and Conditions, blah blah blah, and then hit download 4) Should take you to install sheild wizard, proceed from there 5) Open the shortcut 'Create a World' 6) Read the tutorial under the 'Create a World' in the online store Or, if you want to have premade towns, these are some ways to do it A) Download other player's worlds from the Exchange B) Download EA games' Riverview from the Exchange C) Buy 'The Sims 3 Ambitions'. It will come with a new world called Twinbrook. It has lots of water. D) Buy 'The Sims 3 Late Night'. It will come with a new world called Bridgeport. It is a big city. E) Buy 'The Sims 3 Pets'. It will come with a brand new world called Appalosa Plains. I don't have it, but from what I know it's like Montana or something. F) Buy 'The Sims 3 World Adventures'. You can now live or travel to China, France, or Eygpt. Good luck! The worlds are all very diffrent, so just find the one you like! pearpower99 - 12 years ago - report 1   1
  • You can download Riverview from the Sims 3 website, or download the Create A World tool and make your own. Francis_Nerrrrr - 14 years ago - report 4   6

This mod replaces the travel code, and re-enables the script error logging. If the travel system fails, the logs will make things easier to track down the issue and repair it. Oh yeah, it also has the capability to load any World as a Vacation destination.

Is there any way to reset the puzzle lots in world adventures so i can play them again add page tags (seperate by comma): travelerfaq there any way reset the puzzle lots world adventures can play them again listed content: select a type wiki page's interaction's translation's code tip's faq's release note's.

There are two methods to reset the lots back to their original starting points:

Method 1: Replace the lots with new pristine copies.

  • Start a new game.
  • Use "Edit Town" to edit the vacation world (there are buttons on the upper left of the screen to switch worlds).
  • Export the lots you want to the Library.
  • Now load your game.
  • Use "Edit Town" to edit the vacation world.
  • Bulldoze the existing lots, and import the new copies.

Method 2: Replace the entire town file.

  • Always backup your saves before making changes of this nature.
  • Within your save folder, you will find an .NHD file for each world you have visited.
  • Delete the file with the name of the world you want to reset.
  • The next time you visit that world, the game will automatically build a new copy of it for you. Note that this may cause issues if your sims are friends with any foreigners, as those foreign sims will be deleted when you delete their homeworld. Mods such as Overwatch and ErrorTrap can help mitigate the corruption that occurs. Ensure that you are NOT visiting that world when you delete the town file, or your game will become corrupted.

This is caused by only going back to the Main Menu when starting a new world, instead of completely exiting the game after playing a previous world. It's a bad idea because the data from the previous world bleeds over into the new one.

It's an EA bug, aggravated by Traveler but has also been known to happen without having any NRaas mods installed. Unfortunately, the cause of this bug has proved impossible to find.

The solution is to exit the game back to the Desktop, then start again and select a new world to play. After this, it should be fine.

Traveling to a custom world destination is essentially the same as traveling to China, France, or Egypt. You will be asked where you'd like to stay upon arrival. This choice includes empty residential lots (which you will not be charged for) and base camps in the world (which you can add if you like). The selection system uses the University interface if you have that pack installed so do not be alarmed if you are asked "Where would you like to stay this term? " The mod knows you are not in Uni World and will react to your choice appropriately. By default, your stay will be timed, and your family will automatically return home once the travel clock is full. You can pause the travel clock at any time using the mod's "Pause Travel" option. Also, if you wish to turn off the vacation restrictions, you can disable the "Treat as Vacation" option.

  • Doing so makes the game think you are in a hometown, allowing you to go to work/school, or do things that are not normally available in Vacation worlds.
  • Note though, that you are still technically on vacation. No one at home will age, and you can still complete your vacation at any time by switching the "Treat as Vacation" back on and traveling home.

How are future descendants handled by this mod? Add page tags (seperate by comma): future descendants handled mod traveler faq travelerfaq Listed content: Select a type Wiki Page's Interaction's Translation's Code Tip's FAQ's Release Note's

When you travel to the future using Into The Future , the game will automatically generate a set of descendants for your travelling sims (provided they score sufficiently high in the EA trait-scoring). Under EA Standard, the following occurs:

  • Note, if you are unmarried at the time of traveling, the game produces a clone as your descendant
  • Note there is a chance of a "single parent" household, at which point any offspring are simply clones again
  • From that pairing, any number of offspring are generated

The developer decided that the EA Standard process was a little lax, and has changed the process in this mod. The Traveler approach:

  • If you are unmarried, a random sim from the town is selected to be your future spouse. Congratulations!
  • Note if the family is a single-parent household, the partner is used for their genetics and then chucked out of town.

Why is the Careers Panel visible while on vacation? Add page tags (seperate by comma): careers panel visible vacation traveler faq travelerfaq Listed content: Select a type Wiki Page's Interaction's Translation's Code Tip's FAQ's Release Note's

EA Standard does not transfer a sim's career during world transition.

  • To hide the fact that the career is missing during vacation, EA disables the careers panel.

The mod is capable of transferring most types of careers, allowing the sim to continue working while on vacation.

  • Any performance increases will be retained and transferred back to your homeworld when you return home.
  • Note that rabbithole careers are only transferred if the rabbit hole exists in the destination world.

Even if you do not intend to work while on vacation, the career panel is still available regardless.

  • Provided you leave "Treat As Vacation" enabled, you do not need to worry about losing any career performance.

Do not change careers while away from your homeworld if you wish to retain the change.

  • When you return to your homeworld, your sim will automatically revert to their pre-travel career.

Why am I prompted to save the game prior to traveling? Add page tags (seperate by comma): prompted save game prior traveling traveler faq travelerfaq Listed content: Select a type Wiki Page's Interaction's Translation's Code Tip's FAQ's Release Note's

The Save prompt is provided for your protection, just in case the transition process fails.

  • The save occurs prior to your sim traveling, so if you reload the game, you will still be in the world where you started.
  • Note that you will be without any funds you paid to make the trip.

It is advised that you change the name of the save game when you change worlds so you can revert to an earlier save-point if something goes wrong.

  • The developer appends the word "Vacation" to the end of vacation saves to differentiate them from the saves made in the homeworld. However, you can name the saves whatever you like.

If you prefer to save on your own, without any prompt, use the "Prompt To Save"" option to disable the functionality.

How do I set up a Traveler world so it acts like a Vacation world ? Add page tags (seperate by comma): set traveler world acts vacation faq travelerfaq Listed content: Select a type Wiki Page's Interaction's Translation's Code Tip's FAQ's Release Note's

What you need to do is head to "Edit Town" and create a Base Camp lot. You can choose any community lot you wish, by changing the Sub-Type to "Base Camp". Or, if you already have a Base Camp lot in your library, simply place it in your town. Buzzler has a mod hosted at ModTheSims called the "Build/Buy Restriction Choker", part of his Builder Stuff collection , which enables the ability to put residential objects on community lots. This will help you place the fridge and other amenities necessary for a proper Base Camp lot. After that, you can designate any number of unoccupied residential lots as Vacation Homes, which can be later purchased by your traveling family.

  • To do so, choose the residential lot in "Edit Town" and change the Lot Sub-Type to "Ownable Lot".

The NEXT time you visit the world, your sims will be placed on the Base Camp, or be given the option to move into a vacation home they own.

Can I play other families in the vacation towns? Add page tags (seperate by comma): play families vacation towns traveler faq travelerfaq Listed content: Select a type Wiki Page's Interaction's Translation's Code Tip's FAQ's Release Note's

This mod does not unlock the ability to switch households. However, if you are using a mod that does, such as MasterController , Traveler will alter the travel situation to suit.

  • While playing a non-traveling family, "Pause Travel" will be automatically enabled and "Treat as Vacation" automatically disabled, allowing you to play the family as though you were playing a home town.
  • It is strongly advised not to allow a different household, than the one you started with, to travel away from the vacation world. The game will likely lose track of your original travel party and they may become stranded on their vacation, with their status in limbo.

Can I travel my original party or a subset of them to a third destination without returning home first? Add page tags (seperate by comma): travel original party subset destination returning home traveler travelerfaq Listed content: Select a type Wiki Page's Interaction's Translation's Code Tip's FAQ's Release Note's

Yes, you can do this, although be aware there is a risk that the game will lose track of everyone's hometown. Be sure to Save As at each junction so you have safe points to revert play if necessary.

  • It is strongly advised to return to the first vacation world after such an intermediary trip. In other words, such travel should go A-B-C-B-A rather than A-B-C-A, where A is your sims' hometown, B and C are vacation destinations.
  • Also, make sure not to leave any travelers from your original travel party permanently stranded on a vacation without changing their hometowns (see below).
  • Some WA Opportunities that require actions in various different worlds ( e.g., Go to France to do X, then go to China to do Y) need a return trip home in between in order to complete properly.

Is there a way to use one of the towns from another save-game as a vacation world? Add page tags (seperate by comma): towns savegame vacation world traveler faq travelerfaq Listed content: Select a type Wiki Page's Interaction's Translation's Code Tip's FAQ's Release Note's

Note that you should always back up your save-games prior to moving the physical files around. So, to travel to a previously played or saved world, with The Sims 3 not active :

  • Load up a file explorer.
  • Locate the Save folder for the save-game containing the old town file.
  • Copy the NHD file.
  • Locate the save folder for the save-game you are currently playing (use the file explorer's "Date modified" filter if you're not sure what your latest save is).
  • Paste the NHD file.

The next time you travel to that particular town, it will now use the town file you copied into the Save folder.

  • You should probably ensure that there is a base camp or at least one empty residential lot available, or you may encounter difficulties traveling to the destination.

You can use this method to prepare travel worlds, by starting a new save in a world and placing a base camp and any other required lots. Once the world is ready for playing, save the world and then copy over this world's save using the steps above.

What are the traveldb and exportdb packages in my save-game, and why are they so big add page tags (seperate by comma): traveldb exportdb packages savegame big traveler faq travelerfaq listed content: select a type wiki page's interaction's translation's code tip's faq's release note's.

The TravelDB package was originally implemented during World Adventures as a means of storing data required by more than one town file.

  • Since the game is only capable of loading a single town file into memory at any one time, it is not possible to access the data in other worlds without a middleman.
  • Namely, EA stores exported copies of all foreign sims within the TravelDB file, for use when importing new Tourist or Explorer sims
  • This export occurs whenever you leave a world to visit another. So, if you want legitimate tourists from other worlds to appear in your game, you must travel to that world at least once.

With Ambitions , EA expanded this system to include sims that are emigrated out of the homeworld.

  • When a sim is compressed to conserve save-space, a copy of its Everyday outfit is exported to TravelDB and ExportDB packages, allowing the game to recreate the sim's portrait for family tree purposes.
  • Doing so allows the game to load without having to read this information into memory, reducing the chance of you receiving an "Error 12" during game-play

When Generations was released, EA expanded the file to contain the photos for sim memories.

  • Whenever you import sims from the Library containing photo memories, the game automatically adds a new set of those photos to your TravelDB file.
  • This process can cause the file to become bloated and may require manual pruning. See the following FAQ for details: Manually Adjusting The TravelDB.package For Better Performance .

In order to serve you better, it may be necessary that you provide debugging logs to determine where the fault occurred in the transition system. To do so, follow these steps:

  • Reload your game to a point prior to traveling.
  • Enable the "Show Debugging" option.
  • Enable the "InsanityDebugging: MenuName" option.
  • Go on vacation.

With the Debugging enabled, you will not receive the Loading Screen window, so do not be concerned about that. You should see the following occur during the transition:

  • The game window should turn blue
  • The active sim in the interface should vanish
  • The game window should turn black, and a wait cursor should appear
  • The interface and game window should reappear

If the transition fails to complete after a reasonable period of time, close the application, and go to your "My Documents" folder. Within that folder, you will see a number of "ScriptError" files which can then be uploaded to the mod's Traveler Issues page for evaluation.

Is it possible to switch homeworlds permanently? Add page tags (seperate by comma): switch homeworlds permanently traveler faq travelerfaq Listed content: Select a type Wiki Page's Interaction's Translation's Code Tip's FAQ's Release Note's

You can permanently move your family to the world you are currently visiting by using the "Change Hometown" interaction. Once complete, you will be able to visit your old homeworld as if it were a vacation world. The interaction is available via the Base Camp or Town Hall lot menu (click on the map tag from map view), and use "NRaas > Traveler > Change Hometown". The mod will prompt you to Save (As), Quit and reload the game at this point. Doing so is crucial as the game will be in a fragile state until reloaded. Before using the interaction, your family must be living on their own residential lot and not Base Camp or a free vacation lot provided by the game upon arrival.

  • You will need to purchase a vacation home and move your family if you are currently living on the Base Camp lot or on a free vacation home lot provided by the game.
  • Note: It may be necessary to save and reload the game for the "Real Estate" option on the Phone to appear.
  • If you do not have sufficient Visa Level to purchase a vacation home, you can use DebugEnabler 's "Add / Set Visa Level" from the Sim Menu, to increase your level to "3".

Note: You should ensure that your entire family is traveling with you before using this option, as anyone you left behind in the old hometown will remain there. Because the steps that must be undertaken to follow this procedure properly are prone to causing confusion in some cases, let's review them:

  • Your sims are living in World A but you wish to move them to World B and have that become their homeworld.
  • Vacation them there. If they do not already own a vacation home in World B, choose some random place for them to stay, as provided for by the mod or use a Base Camp if one is available. If they do own a vacation home, have them stay there and skip to Step 5.
  • Ensure that the home you want them to own is set to Player Ownable when viewed through Edit Town.
  • Have the sims purchase their vacation home, move them into it and wait for the move-in animations to finish.
  • Invoke Traveler's Change Hometown interaction. Do not do this yet if your sims are still staying in temporary housing as provided by the mod upon arrival or in a Base Camp.
  • Save (As), Quit all the way to the Desktop (or Origin if on Patch 1.69) and reload the game.

You will no longer be playing in vacation mode and World B will be these sims' permanent homeworld. World A as you left it will now be connected as a potential travel destination or a source from which to pull in sims for visits or more permanent residents (see the options for doing so below). If you later have trouble sending these relocated or newly pulled in sims to work/school in their new homeworld, see the DebugEnabler fix below.

What is the difference between switching homeworlds by Vacationing/Invoking Change Hometown as above and using the built-in "Move to a New World" function? Add page tags (seperate by comma): difference switching homeworlds vacationinginvoking change hometown builtin move world function traveler faq travelerfaq Listed content: Select a type Wiki Page's Interaction's Translation's Code Tip's FAQ's Release Note's

As of Patch 1.55, the game offers a Move to New World function on the phone and the computer's real estate menus, as well as upon startup, when newly installed worlds are detected. This was not originally the same thing as switching homeworlds but was actually designed by EA as a shortcut for saving a copy of your household to the bin and placing that copy in a new world.

  • Under EA standard, if you choose to Move to a New World this way, your current homeworld will be destroyed.
  • With Traveler and ErrorTrap in place, your current homeworld and your sims' relationships with everyone in it should be preserved but it may not be possible to ever travel back to it. For many players, the game will generate a fresh, unplayed version of your current world if you attempt to do so. The circumstances under which this happens are still under investigation.
  • As this method of moving to a new world is less reliable, unless you intend to "start over" with your current sims and never go back to where they came from within that saved game, the Vacation/Change Hometown method described above is still the preferred way.

No matter which method you use to switch homeworlds, it cannot be emphasized enough to do a Save As just before doing anything critical and again, just after anything critical happens, so that you have several safe points to revert to, should something unexpected happen.

The game engine is only capable of simulating one world-file at a time, so essentially the sims in the other worlds you have visited are in a state of suspended animation. If you have EA Aging enabled, the game will increment the ages of all the sims by one day, each sim-day at midnight, to keep them in line with the aging in your hometown. This process will include any Traveler worlds in addition to the regular EA vacation worlds. If you prefer to not have foreign sims age until you actually play in their worlds, you may adjust that on a per-world basis on City Hall or an in-game computer: NRaas > Traveler > Ageless Foreign Sims. When you finally decide to return to a vacation world, EA Story Progression immediately kicks in and processes a certain number of updates, making it appear that the town has progressed in your absence. By default, the EA Story Progression system will use the France demographic template to update your town, as custom Traveler worlds do not have demographics of their own.

NOTE: This method can also be used to travel to a world and edit it prior to sending sims on vacation. Use the "Travel" interaction as you normally would. When the Trip Planner window appears, double click the sim in the right-hand window, and it will be removed.

  • This way when you travel to a destination world, no sims will make the trip; they will all be left in the other world.
  • The sim that initiates the travel action will not be charged the displayed amount for the trip, as they aren't actually traveling, but their household does need to have the required funds available in cash regardless.
  • When you reach your destination, you will be prompted to select a family to play just as you would for a fresh game.

The world you have chosen is now considered your hometown.

  • If you wish to return to playing the other world, simply travel back to it as you normally would.

If you are currently on Vacation and wish to return home and leave the sims in the world:

  • Follow the instructions outlined here: Is it possible to switch hometowns permanently?
  • Then return to the hometown as noted above.

Use MasterController :

  • In your new homeworld, click on the residential lot where you want them placed (your own, one where other sims currently live, or an unoccupied house), then: NRaas > Master Controller > Add Sim > Homeworld > (filter to their current homeworld) and select the sims you want to move this way.
  • You may temporarily see the sim twice on your Active's relationship panel after pulling a sim in this way. The apparent duplicate should resolve the next time you start up the game.
  • Sims moved by being pulled in this way will lose their accumulated wealth and possessions in both their personal and family inventories. If you want to preserve these inventories, you must travel back to their homeworld and move them by the Vacation/Invoke Change Hometown method.
  • The sims you have pulled in this way will still exist back in their original homeworlds, as those worlds are in a state of suspended animation while not being played. The original sim should disappear the next time you visit that world actively.

It may be tempting to have those you left behind, or sims you have met on a vacation or a term in Uni World, come visit you as tourists and either ask them to move in or invoke "Master Controller > Add Sim" on them while they are visiting. There are elements of risk involved in moving foreign sims into your homeworld permanently, depending on which method is used.

  • Traveling to the foreign sims' homeworld and asking them to move in by social interaction, or by using "Master Controller > Add Sim", is safe. The foreign sim should return home with yours and become part of their permanent household.
  • Traveling to the foreign sims' homeworld and marrying them there should be safe, provided that the foreign sim has a proper household of their own to begin with. Forcing marriage upon a foreign homeless NPC or a Uni student who is a roommate in a dorm or fraternity/sorority house, rather than a member of their own household, can damage the sim and your game. It is generally safer to get such a sim to join your own household or bring them into your world as a resident before marrying them.
  • When a foreign sim is still in their own world, invoking "Master Controller > Add Sim > Homeworld (filter to their homeworld)" as described above, is always safe although again, such sims will lose their wealth and possessions.
  • Foreign sims pulled into your world by Register or the game itself with no player involvement is not a good idea, as random tourists are actually Mini-Sim copies of themselves, with the original fully-fledged sims still back in their homeworlds. Asking or forcing a Mini-Sim to join your household, or moving them into your current world, will likely cause the sim to become damaged as a result of not having enough data to reconstruct the full version of themselves. Do not do this!
  • If you have various NRaas mods with code that has been added to them to protect against the severe data loss that Mini-Sims present, you should be able to ask visiting sims, whom you have invited over yourself to your actives' homeworld by Master Controller or phone, to move in successfully. Those mods would be Overwatch , ErrorTrap , Traveler and RelationshipPanel . If you do not have these mods in play, asking or forcing visiting sims you have invited yourself, to move into your currently being played world, is risky - some players have success with this, others find the sims being moved in will become damaged.
  • However it's done, visiting sims tend to not have their entire wardrobes with them when they travel and certain other attributes, such as gender preferences, former (historical) careers and traits over the maximum allowed, may get lost in the transition. That doesn't mean they were Mini-Sims and these relatively minor attributes can easily be adjusted with MasterController , once they become fully-fledged residents.

Though not explicitly related to this mod, since it deals with traveling, Twallan answered this question here. The answer depends on which mod is producing the menu, so first check to see which name is appearing under the "NRaas" menu, in order to follow the correct path below.

  • For MasterController: Click on your active sim and use "NRaas \ Master Controller \ Settings \ Menu Visibility \ Lot"

sims 3 travel to other towns

Rating: 40/100

Barnacle Bay is an exciting island world in The Sims 3 franchise. If you are a fan of island life, you and your Sim family should give this world a try. This town, however, is at the bottom of my list. The reason for this is that there are other towns created by the game makers of this franchise that have much more to offer for the lovers of island life. There is, however, a fun plot twist to this town: it has a general pirate theme! This is quite different from the general island life vibe that most coastal towns have and it is most definitely something to explore. There are many adventures included in the expansion pack containing this town and although Barnacle Bay is not exactly my speed, I know that some players will adore it!

14. Sunset Valley

the sims 3 Sunset Valley

Rating: 42/100

To any avid Sims 3 player, Sunset Valley is quite familiar. This town is included in the base game of The Sims 3. It is an extremely popular town with many famous families that make appearances across all versions of The Sims 3 franchise, making it even more fun to explore. The fun thing about Sunset Valley is that it is one of the biggest towns released by the game makers. This means that there is plenty to explore when you choose this town to live your perfectly stimulated life! It has everything from cool workplaces, beaches, parks, and centers for your sims to improve their skills. I would suggest checking this town out if you are just getting started and familiarizing yourself with the basics of the gameplay. This town is quite basic, but a fan favorite!

13. Twinbrook

the sims 3 Twinbrook

Rating: 52/100

Twinbrook is a cute town based in a swampy area in North America. It is included in the Ambitions Expansion Pack. The architecture of this town is quite different from the average towns released by game makers. It has a river that divides the town into two halves, basically creating two tiny towns on one map. Twinbrook is not a town that gets busy and is buzzing with sims all the time. If you choose to reside in this town, be prepared to lead a simple life where you get to enjoy the small things in life. I would suggest giving Twinbrook a try if you are all about the calm, relaxing family life.

12. Aurora Skies

the sims 3 Aurora Skies

Rating: 54/100

This town was specifically created for players who would want the perfect outdoorsy life for their Sims. This town offers every outdoor adventure imaginable! Think of beautiful landscapes, nature surrounding you, the tallest trees in The Sims world, and tons and tons of hikes. You guessed it, I just described Aurora Skies. The outdoor life might not be for everyone, but for those brave enough to take it on, make sure that you attempt your adventure in Aurora Skies! The name of this town itself describes the beautiful scenes that you will experience in this town. I am not a fan of the outdoors, but trust me when I say you have to experience Aurora Skies at least once in your life.

11. Moonlight Falls

the sims 3 Moonlight Falls

Rating: 60/100

Moonlight Falls is the perfect town for the player who loves a good mystery and a place to brood. This town has a mysterious vibe to it that is loved by several players. Moonlight Falls is based on a northwestern atmosphere. It is based in a mountainous area and it most definitely gives off “Twilight” vibes! I love this town and I would suggest checking it out if you are a fan of the mysteries of The Sims 3. I also enjoy that the creators of this town gave little to no information on the history of Moonlight Falls. It adds to the mystery and allows the player to enable their imaginations to run wild. Moonlight Falls is worth a visit!

10. Appaloosa Plains

the sims 3 Appaloosa Plains

Rating: 64/100

Appaloosa Plains is the perfect town for those who have a love for country life. This town is included in The Sims 3 Pets expansion pack and it has a wonderful western feel to it. This town is one of my personal favorites. It has much to offer, including an equestrian park where you can enjoy horse riding and a dog park where your pets can enjoy themselves. Something that is very unique to this town is the architecture. You can enjoy beautiful porches on large mansions or live your best farm life on a ranch. Appaloosa Plains is a must if you feel like exploring your inner cowboy with your Sim family!

9. Hidden Springs

the sims 3 Hidden Springs

Rating: 67/100

In my opinion, Hidden Springs is one of the most beautiful towns created by the game makers of The Sims 2 franchise. This town has a mesmerizing landscape and it is set in a beautiful mountainous area. If you decide to reside in this town, just know that you are going to be living a quiet, simple life. Hidden Springs is the opposite of big city living and it is perfect for those who are explorers at heart. I prefer a busier town, but I would recommend visiting Hidden Springs and exploring the amazing nature. This town has many hidden treasures begging to be explored by the curious at heart. Are you up for the adventure?

8. Riverview

the sims 3 Riverview

Rating: 70/100

Riverview is a small town in The Sims world. Surprisingly, this town has one of the best ratings out of all Sims towns, and after exploring it, I understood why. Riverview is similar to Aurora Skies, but it has a twist. This town offers many places to set up camp (literally). There are many beautiful landscapes to enjoy and appreciate with your sims. You can explore the outdoors and have fun at the many surrounding rivers all across town. It also offers bridges. Who doesn't love a good bridge, right? Although Riverview has a slower atmosphere to it, it is definitely at the top of my list for taking a break from the everyday trials and tribulations of the sim life. The landscape will instantly release any stress your sims may face and increase their happiness!

7. Isla Paradiso

the sims 3 Isla Paradiso

Rating: 72/100

The Island Life is not for any average joe. Isla Paradiso is one of my all-time favorite towns of The Sims 3 franchise. This town embodies the atmosphere of island living and it is reflected in every detail that the game makers added to Isla Paradiso. This town is one of the most beautiful towns created in the history of Sims 3 towns. The clear waters and beach houses will make you feel like you are constantly on a well-deserved holiday. I wouldn't suggest residing in Isla Paradiso if you are the ambitious type. Trust me when I say that you will have some trouble getting anything done in this town where vacation is a mindset. Isla Paradiso has endless activities to enjoy and waters as far as the eye can see. If you ask me, this sounds like heaven!

6. Lucky Palms

the sims 3 Lucky Palms

Rating: 76/100

Lucky Palms is set in a mountainous area. It is extremely aesthetically pleasing to anyone who enjoys a good landscape. The dessert setting and the beautifully created architecture of this town will convince you that you are rolling in money. Be careful, though. Lucky Palms comes with a few betting actions so you might just spend your imaginary wealth! The name of this town is quite fitting to the atmosphere experienced when visiting or residing here. Sims feel lucky all around. I would suggest taking a trip to this town. Just make sure that you have some extra coin in your pocket and you might make your sims a millionaire!

5. Dragon Valley

the sims 3 Dragon Valley

Rating: 77/100

Dragon Valley is one of the most beautiful towns in all of The Sims 3 worlds. It is based on a Medieval European town and every detail of Dragon Valley embodies this atmosphere. The buildings have a medieval twist to them and the expansion pack including Dragon Valley includes new outfits and hairstyles so that the residents of this amazing town can be part of the aesthetic. The roads are made of stone and the enchanting gardens stretch as far as the eye can see. If you have a knack for exploring different eras, I would suggest having Dragon Valley at the very top of your list!

4. Sunlit Tides

the sims 3 Sunlit Tides

Rating: 80/100

While I explored the many towns created by The Sims 3 game makers, I came across Sunlit Tides. My breath was taken away by the beauty of this town. It has a similar island living atmosphere to it like Isla Paradiso, but the aesthetic of this town is on another level. Sunlit Tides limits activity, mostly allowing Sims to dwell in the beauty of this town, but it offers many such as cinemas and bars. You can also build a life here as Sunlit Tides offers several employment options. I would, however, suggest taking in the relaxing vibe of this town and not stressing yourself too much over employment options. This town is definitely for sims who seek a stress-free life. Sunlit Tides is one of my all-time favorite towns in The Sims 3. Check it out and you’ll understand why!

3. Lunar Lakes

the sims 3 Lunar Lakes

Rating: 85/100

This town is quite different from the other towns that can be downloaded or purchased in The Sims franchise. This is a town far from earth. Yes, you heard that right. Lunar Lakes is an alien planet! It has geometric-shaped lakes, strange-looking trees, and unique land markings. Lunar Lakes as a whole also looks somewhat different compared to other towns. This town's “alien” aspect makes it a ton of fun to reside in. At times, it might seem secluded and despite the hidden gems that can be explored, this town is mainly for old souls with a knack for curiosity. It is the embodiment of small-town living, so if that’s your scene I would suggest taking a tour of this town!

2. Starlight Shores

the sims 3 Starlight Shores

Rating: 89/100

If you are all about the glitz and the glamor, Starlight Shores are the town for you! This town is based on a Hollywood vibe. This town has many to offer, including a beautiful park, show venues for talented Sims, artsy and aesthetic coffeehouses as well as a beach outlined with glamorous beach houses. If you know that your Sim is bound to live a life of fame, this town is a must! Simfests are also held in Starlight Shores where your Sim can show off their new talents that are included in the “The Sims 3: Showtime” expansion pack. This town is about the exact opposite of Lunar Lakes, so good luck picking a side!

1. Roaring Heights

the sims 3 Roaring Heights

Rating: 94/100

Welcome to the world of riches and lavishness! This is a booming and lively town where Sims never sleep. Roaring Heights is one of the most complex and aesthetically pleasing worlds built by the creators of The Sims. Here you will find massive skyscrapers and beautiful beaches. This town is based on a 1920-1940s vibe and it is reflected in the beautiful architecture of the buildings as well as the outfits of the interesting residents. The layout is based on Miami and New York. If you ask me, that is the best of both worlds (both of the best worlds, by the way!). Roaring Heights is filled with wonderful surprises and it is most definitely my favorite town in the entire Sims 3 franchise. Keep that in mind and check it out, I guarantee that we will share a mutual feeling.

Best Sims 3 Worlds & Towns To Live In (From All Expansion Packs)

Appaloosa Plains in Sims 3 - concept art

The Sims 3 is the go-to game for open-world simulation enthusiasts.

This is the one title in the entire franchise that didn’t make you go through loading screens every time you decide to move lots. This is why many people still prefer to play The Sims 3 over The Sims 4, even though the latest installment of the series has a lot of improvements.

In any case, it’ll be interesting to dig into Sims 3 worlds given that you can move around freely, and there aren’t any rabbit hole areas that you can’t visit.

So in this post I’ve organized my picks of the 15 the best worlds/areas/towns that you and your sims can inhabit. Sims 3 enthusiasts, get ready to pack your bags cause you might be ready for a move!

15. Barnacle Bay

Barnacle Bay Sims 3

Are you a fan of island worlds?

Well this one comes with a twist! Your world will have a pirate theme to help you and your sims go on adventures like you’ve never experienced before in the franchise.

You can purchase this amazing map or simply get it as part of the Island Paradise DLC if you happened to have pre-ordered it.

In any case, if you love to see the sunset on the coast and experience the life of an island dweller, this is probably one of the best towns to download.

14. Twinbrook

Twinbrook Sims 3

Twinbrook is a town that comes with the Ambitions expansion pack, which has two twin rivers that cross and divide the town with a lake in the middle.

It’s a beautiful little area that reminds one of the swampy regions of North America.

And with a grey climate to set the mood, Twinbrook is an amazing town for people who enjoy the simple things in life.

13. Appaloosa Plains

Appaloosa Plains in Sims 3

Not every sim is built for the country life. But the Appaloosa Plains have the best homes for sims that want to spend their life with country music relaxing on their porches.

If you love having your sim explore meadows and live a simple life then the Appaloosa Plains is the right town to inhabit.

Let nature take over and build a simple ranch. Or have your dream mansion built on the beautiful lands that make up the country of Appaloosa Plains.

You’ll be loving how it feels to live under a Texan-like sun.

12. Sunset Valley

Sunset Valley in Sims 3

Sunset Valley is a trend-setter in the world of The Sims.

This is arguably one of the largest maps that have ever come out in the franchise, and given that it was the first map in The Sims 3 it surely made an impact on the community.

Not only does it have a massive number of lots but it’s also got a large number of playable sims.

This cozy town has everything a sim needs to have the life that they want with peace and civility.

11. Lunar Lakes

Lunar Lakes in Sims 3

Playing The Sims in outer space? Yes, it can be done!

Lunar Lakes is a map which is set on another world that needs to be purchased in the Sims 3 store .

According to the story, sims traveled to this world many generations ago and it has now become a colony far from Earth where people live happy lives on an alien planet.

Lunar Lakes takes a spot on my list because it offers a unique twist that no other map in Sims history has managed to give – alien gameplay!

10. Moonlight Falls

Moonlight Falls in Sims 3

Now I think Moonlight Falls is the best town to play if you love mystery and exploring.

One of the things that makes this northwestern-style town look so good is that it really resembles what a village would look like in a misty mountain environment.

The creators of the map also weren’t too keen on discussing its story, as they like the shrouded mystery that covers this beautiful homeland.

9. Aurora Skies

Aurora Skies in Sims 3

Hiking? Tall trees? Fresh air?

This map was almost tailor-made for fans of The Sims that love the outdoors.

It is based on traditional Nordic towns and you can tell that by simply looking up at the night sky – the aurora borealis is right there for all to see.

8. Riverview

Riverview in Sims 3

Riverview is a fantastic little town well worth checking out.

In fact, it has one of the best town designs in the entire Sims 3 game (including expansion packs!)

It’s an amazing area for lovers of the outdoors, much like the Aurora Skies map, but with a twist.

In Riverview you’ll be playing in the countryside and you’ll be able to visit the many different little rivers that traverse the plains around you.

Bridges, water, and many places to camp.

Riverview is, by far, one of the most iconic maps of The Sims 3 and oozes with the energy that made us fall in love with the open-world nature of the game in the first place.

It’s completely free as well so you can grab this any time you like.

7. Starlight Shores

Starlight Shores in Sims 3

Starlight Shores comes with the Showtime Expansion Pack and it’s basically a scaled-down representation of Hollywood .

You’ll be able to feel like a true star living in an apartment complex or simply inhabiting the walls that make up the mansion that you’ve bought with your rise to fame.

In any case, this city changes the shape of traditional Sims 3 gameplay. It makes you move around crowded neighborhoods, vibrant plazas, and lets you get to know the brightest city that the SimNation has to offer.

6. Hidden Springs

Hidden Springs in Sims 3

Hidden Springs is the best map for players who love to move around the mountainous environments.

It adds an alpine vibe to the Sims 3 games that honestly you wouldn’t know that you wanted until you come across this map to begin with.

The area has some very cozy homes that you and your sim can move into, and you can live a quiet and modest life or build your dream mansion on top of a mountain. Probably not for everyone but definitely worth looking into if you like the serene sense of nature.

5. Dragon Valley

Dragon Valley in Sims 3

Have you ever dreamed of playing The Sims 3 in an open world environment that took place hundreds of years ago?

Well with the Dragon Valley map you can feel what our ancestors felt like while walking on the stone streets of Medieval Europe.

Technology has made its way to this town, of course.

But hey –I wouldn’t really like to live in medieval times without my phone and laptop. So why not get the best of both worlds?

4. Lucky Palms

Lucky Palms in Sims 3

Lucky Palms feels like the greener ancestor of The Sims 4’ map Oasis Springs.

In fact it’s very similar apart from the mountainous setting that you can see in the Lucky Palms map.

This awesome map also comes with a few betting items, including blackjack tables and slot machines. Cool! Your sim might be able to hit it rich if they get enough luck coming their way.

3. Isla Paradiso

Isla Paradiso in Sims 3

This paradisiacal island is one of the most beautiful maps ever created for a Sims game.

It truly makes you feel like you’re on a magnificent island paradise with crystal clear waters, boathouses, and a beach theme that is only matched by one of the latest Sims 4 worlds, Sulani.

In any case, the open-world theme of Isla Paradiso makes it a much more enjoyable map than its Sims 4 counterpart.

With hundreds of things to do and waters to explore, you’ll absolutely love your time on Isla Paradiso.

Live your days on the island or join the world once your sim is ready to retire – employment options aren’t short here, but it does seem like a place where only those who have accomplished everything in life would want to move to.

2. Sunlit Tides

Sunlit Tides Sims 3

Now Sunlit Tides is another paradisiacal map that aims to take you to an island in the Caribbean with the most beautiful beaches and traditional palm trees.

The island, even though it encourages the life of a beach dweller, also comes with everything you need to live a long life with plenty of work opportunities.

You can visit the cinemas or bars with your friends, or you can simply stay at home and leave to the beach on weekends.

Feel what it’s like to live the real tropical life by calling Sunlit Tides your new home.

1. Roaring Heights

Roaring Heights, best Sims 3 town

Roaring Heights takes the first spot on my list because it’s the most beautiful yet complex city in the Sims 3 game.

It truly makes you feel what it’s like to have a sim living in a big city, in an even better way than Starlight Shores.

The city is massive, the colors are vibrant, and things to do are aplenty. This is one of the best maps ever released in a Sims game and I highly recommend you check it out, even just for a bit of fun. I promise you won’t regret it!

15 Best Sims 3 Worlds & Towns

  • Posted by by Anukul Saini

The Sims 3 is the best game for people who like open-world simulations.

This is the only game in the series where you don’t have to wait through a loading screen every time you move a lot.

Even though The Sims 4 has a lot of changes, this is why many people still prefer to play The Sims 3 over The Sims 4.

Any way you look at it, exploring Sims 3 worlds will be interesting since you can move around freely and there are no “rabbit hole” places you can’t go to.

So, in this post, I’ve put together my list of the 15 best Sims 3 Worlds & Towns for you and your Sims to live.

Fans of The Sims 3 might be ready to move, so get ready to pack your bags.

15. Barnacle Bay

14. twinbrook, 13. appaloosa plains, 12. sunset valley, 11. lunar lakes, 10. moonlight falls, 9. aurora skies, 8. riverview, 7. starlight shores, 6. hidden springs, 5. dragon valley, 4. lucky palms, 3. isla paradiso, 2. sunlit tides, 1. roaring heights.

Sims 3 Worlds & Towns

Do you like worlds on islands?

In The Sims 3, Barnacle Bay is an interesting island world.

If you like living on an island, you and your Sims should try out this world. This town, on the other hand, is last on my list.

This is because the people who make these games have made other island towns that have a lot more to offer people who like island life.

But there’s a fun story twist in this town: it’s all about pirates! This is very different from the way most coastal towns feel like islands, and you should definitely check it out.

There are a lot of activities in the expansion pack that includes this town. I personally don’t like Barnacle Bay, but I know that some players will love it.

sims 3 travel to other towns

Twinbrook is a cute town in North America that is in a swampy area. It is part of the Expansion Pack for Ambitions.

This town’s architecture is very different from what most places in games look like. It is split in half by a river, so it looks like there are two small towns on one map.

Twinbrook is not a town that is always busy and full of sims. If you decide to live in this town, you should be ready for a simple life where you can enjoy the little things.

I think you should give Twinbrook a try if you like a calm, peaceful family life.

sims 3 travel to other towns

Not every sim is made to live in the country. But the best homes for sims who want to spend their lives listening to country music and resting on their porches are in the Appaloosa Plains.

The Appaloosa Plains is a great place to live if you want your sim to explore fields and live a simple life.

Let nature do its thing and make a simple ranch. Or, have your dream mansion made on the beautiful land that makes up Appaloosa Plains, the country.

You’ll love what it’s like to live under a sun like the one in Texas.

sims 3 travel to other towns

In the world of The Sims, Sunset Valley is a place that sets new trends.

This might be one of the biggest maps ever made for the Sims series, and since it was the first map for The Sims 3, it made a big impression on the community.

It not only has a huge number of lots, but also a huge number of playable games.

This peaceful town has everything a sim needs to live the kind of life they want.

sims 3 travel to other towns

Trying to play The Sims in space? Yes, it’s possible!

Lunar Lakes is a map that takes place in a different world and can be bought in the Sims 3 shop.

The story says that sims went to this world a long time ago, and that it is now a colony far from Earth where people live happy lives on a strange planet.

Lunar Lakes is on my list because it has alien gameplay, which no other map in the history of The Sims has ever had.

sims 3 travel to other towns

Now, I think Moonlight Falls is the best place to play if you like mysteries and exploring.

The fact that it looks like a village in a misty mountain setting is one of the things that makes this northwestern-style town look so good.

The people who made the map didn’t want to talk much about its story, either, because they like the wonder that surrounds this beautiful land.

sims 3 travel to other towns

This town was made especially for people who want their Sims to live in the great outdoors. This town has every kind of outdoor activity you can think of.

Think of beautiful scenery, nature all around you, the tallest trees in The Sims world, and lots and lots of hikes. You got it, I just described Aurora Skies.

Not everyone is cut out for the outdoors, but if you’re brave enough to try it, make sure you try your adventure in Aurora Skies !

The name of this town tells you a lot about the beautiful things you will see there. Even though I don’t like being outside, you have to see Aurora Skies at least once in your life.

sims 3 travel to other towns

Riverview is a great little town that you should visit.

In fact, it has one of the best ideas for a town in the whole Sims 3 game, even if you count the expansion packs.

It’s a great place for nature fans, similar to the Aurora Skies map, but with a twist.

In Riverview, you play in the country, and you can go to the many small rivers that run through the fields around you.

There are a lot of bridges, water, and places to camp.

Riverview is by far one of the most famous maps in The Sims 3, and it’s full of the excitement that made us fall in love with the game’s open-world design in the first place.

It’s also totally free, so you can get it whenever you want.

sims 3 travel to other towns

Starlight Shores is the place to go if you love all the glitz and glam. This town has a Hollywood feel to it.

This town has a lot to offer, like a beautiful park, places for skilled Sims to put on shows, artsy and beautiful coffee shops, and a beach with fancy beach houses.

This town is a must if you know your Sim is going to become famous. In Starlight Shores, there are also Simfests where your Sim can show off their new skills from “The Sims 3: Showtime” extra pack.

This town is pretty much the opposite of Lunar Lakes, so it will be hard to choose.

The best map for players who like to move around in hilly areas is Hidden Springs.

It gives the Sims 3 games a mountain feel that you probably didn’t even know you wanted until you found this map.

You and your sim can move into some very cozy homes in the area. You can live a quiet, simple life there or build your dream house on top of a mountain. It’s probably not for everyone, but if you like the peaceful feel of nature, you should look into it.

sims 3 travel to other towns

Have you ever wanted to play The Sims 3 in an open world that takes place a long time ago?

Well, with the Dragon Valley map, you can feel what it was like to walk on the stone streets of Medieval Europe like our ancestors did.

Technology has, of course, reached this town.

But, you know, I wouldn’t want to live in the Middle Ages without my phone and PC. So why not try to get the best of both?

Lucky Palms takes place in a place with mountains. It is very beautiful to look at for anyone who likes a good scenery.

This town will make you feel like you have a lot of money because it is in the middle of a desert and has beautiful buildings. But, be careful.

There are a few ways to bet in Lucky Palms, so you might just spend your fake money. The name of this town is pretty accurate for how it feels when you come or live there.

All around, Sims feel lucky. I think you should go to this town. Just make sure you have a few extra coins on you, and you could make your sims rich.

This paradisiacal island is one of the most beautiful maps ever made for a Sims game.

It really makes you feel like you’re on a beautiful island paradise, with crystal clear water, boathouses, and a beach theme that is only matched by Sulani, one of the newest Sims 4 worlds.

In any case, Isla Paradiso is a much more fun map than its Sims 4 equivalent because it is set in an open world.

You’ll love your time on Isla Paradiso because there are so many things to do and waters to explore.

You can live on the island or go back to the world when your sim is ready to retire. There are plenty of job opportunities here, but it seems like a place where only people who have done everything in life would want to move.

Now, Sunlit Tides is another paradise map that will take you to a Caribbean island with the most beautiful beaches and traditional palm trees.

Even though the island is a good place to live like a beach bum, it also has everything you need to live a long life and plenty of jobs .

You can hang out with your friends at the movies or bars, or you can just stay at home and go to the beach on the weekends.

Sunlit Tides gives you a taste of what it’s like to live in a real tropical place.

sims 3 travel to other towns

Welcome to a world full of wealth and luxury! This town is busy and full of life, and Sims never go to bed.

Roaring Heights is one of the most complicated and beautiful places that the people who made The Sims made. Huge buildings and beautiful beaches can be found here.

This town has a feel of the 1920s and 1940s, which you can see in the beautiful architecture of the buildings and the interesting clothes the people wear.

The design looks like Miami and New York. I think that’s the best of both worlds (which, by the way, are both the best worlds!).

Roaring Heights is my favorite town in the Sims 3 series because it is full of wonderful wonders and because it is my favorite town in the whole series.

Keep that in mind and check it out. I’m sure we’ll both feel the same way.

  2. Solved: Travel to another town

Accepted Solution. #2. January 2019. Options. puzzlezaddict. Hero. @silverwood02 The answer is yes, sort of, but not without mods. In the vanilla (modless) game, if you move a sim to a new town, the original world is destroyed, and all of its data is lost. There's no way to go back and any sims left behind are unrecoverable.

  4. Can my sims visit other cities ?? : r/Sims3

Yes, the NRaas Traveler mod is needed to do this. The way that I worded my answer might have been misleading. You do need the Traveler mod. 5. How to move towns without losing relationships? : r/Sims3

NRaas Traveler is the mod you'll want for this. But you gotta pay close attention to the instructions on the NRaas info page, or you'll risk breaking your game. You can't, at least not without mods, if there's another sim you really want to keep in touch with, you'll have to move them into your household before moving.

In other words, such travel should go A-B-C-B-A rather than A-B-C-A, where A is your sims' hometown, B and C are vacation destinations. Also, make sure not to leave any travelers from your original travel party permanently stranded on a vacation without changing their hometowns (see below).

It will preserve your old town and its sims once your sims have moved out, and they can travel back to it as a vacation destination to visit their family if they wish. I don't think it erases your family tree if you bring your dead (i.e. gravestones and urns) with you in your family inventory. The gravestones have the family tree data.
