La quarantena musicale degli Slipknot: il Knotfest virtuale

A causa della pandemia, quest’anno il Knotfest, il festival itinerante organizzato dagli Slipknot dal 2012 presso il quale nelle scorse edizioni si sono esibiti Deftones, Marilyn Manson, Lamb of God e Bring Me The Horizon, si è tenuto virtualmente collegando oltre 550.000 partecipanti in più di quattro continenti sotto il segno della musica hard rock e metal.

A partire dal 29 maggio scorso, il Knotfest virtuale ha trasmesso in streaming i concerti degli Underoath, dei Code Orange e della band capitanata da Corey Taylor, tra cui la performance da headliner dei ‘Knot al Graspop Festival a Dessel in Belgio nel 2019.

Arricchito da installazioni esperienziali e da un nuovo sito interattivo a misura di fan, il programma del Knotfest 2020 comprendeva, inoltre, The Electric Theater , una serie online di esclusive interviste presentate dal batterista degli Slipknot M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan.

Stiamo sfruttando questo momento per scrivere nuova musica. Nell’ultima settimana ci siamo semplicemente divertiti, abbiamo mangiato molto cibo e composto buona musica. Ce la stiamo spassando. Dato che tutti si sono presi una pausa, abbiamo pensato di utilizzarla per riunirci e fare ciò che probabilmente sappiamo fare meglio, ovvero scrivere musica. È bello perché non c’è pressione. Non lo facciamo perché siamo obbligati a farlo, ma perché lo vogliamo. Ed è una benedizione, perché la noia può insorgere. So che noi tutti nel mondo stiamo impazzendo, quindi siamo davvero fortunati a poter stare insieme e fare ciò che amiamo di più .

Slipknot ’s Knotfest Roadshow is returning in 2022 with special guests throughout the year. The first leg of the 38-date tour will include support from In This Moment and Jinjer . The second leg will feature special guests Cypress Hill and Ho99o9.  

“Even with everything going on in the world right now, we’re still extremely excited to come back out in the states, with two different, exciting packages,” Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor said in a release. “Whether it’s In This Moment and Jinjer, or Cypress and Ho99o9, we pride ourselves in bringing our fans the epicenter of our music and art. Come celebrate with us, and try to stay as safe as we will be.”

The 2022 edition of the Knotfest Roadshow tour will kick off on March 16 at Fargodome in Fargo, N.D., and run through Nebraska, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Alabama, North and South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Ohio and more. The first leg of the tour will also include stops throughout Canada — including Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia — where they will conclude on April 17.

The second leg of the tour will launch on May 18 at Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, Pa. Slipknot will hit New York, Rhode Island, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Colorado, Idaho, Washington and Nevada. The full 2022 Knotfest will come to an end on June 18 at North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre in Chula Vista, Calif.  

“It feels so good to get back out on the road with our Culture. Get ready for a brand new experience. See you soon,” said Slipknot’s clown in a release.   

Making a triumphant return to the road after the delay due to the pandemic, the Knotfest Roadshow 2021 tour sold out amphitheaters across the country, bookended with the record-breaking Knotfest Iowa and the biggest headline show of their career, Knotfest Los Angeles at Banc of California Stadium.   

The tour will be part of Live Nation’s Live Stubs initiative which provides digital collectible NFT ticket stubs to ticket holders. Live Stubs will automatically be included with tickets purchased for the tour. Fans will also be able to view, share, gift, trade, and resell their live stubs on Live Nation’s site.  

Tickets for all Knotfest Roadshow dates go on sale at 10 a.m. local on Friday (Jan. 21) from KnotfestRoadshow.com .  Check out a full list of dates below.

SLIPKNOT Announces First-Ever 'Knotfest Italy'

SLIPKNOT has announced the inaugural Italian edition of Knotfest . Joining the Iowa masked metallers on June 25, 2023 at Bologna Arena Parco Nord will be ARCHITECTS , AMON AMARTH , I PREVAIL , LORNA SHORE , NOTHING MORE and DESTRAGE .

General on-sale for Knotfest Italy begins at 10 a.m. CET on Wednesday, December 7. Tickets, information and VIP upgrades are available will be available via Knotfest.com/Italy.

The Knotfest brand has expanded around the globe, with landmark events held in the U.S., Japan, Mexico and Colombia, as well as 2019's debut collaboration with French destination festival Hellfest for Knotfest Meets Hellfest .

Knotfest has evolved into one of the biggest hard rock and metal festivals in the world, expanding to four continents. Hundreds of thousands of fans have attended these massive festivals, which are as cultural as they are music-based, mixing heavy rock with hip hop, world music, visual art, experiential installations, and much more.

Speaking to Rolling Stone , SLIPKNOT 's creative visionary Shawn "Clown" Crahan described Knotfest as "a dark carnival experience. It's not just the shows, but the environment created around it. It's all about having fun. A day dedicated to our mentality, our ideas, to the people we want to be with. SLIPKNOT ‘s latest studio album,  The End, So Far , was released on September 30. This is the band’s final album to be released through Roadrunner, whom the band signed with in 1998.

The End, So Far   follows  SLIPKNOT ’s widely celebrated 2019 album  We Are Not Your Kind , which marked  SLIPKNOT ’s third consecutive #1 on the  Billboard 200 . The release made a massive global impact with #1 debuts in the Official Album Charts of twelve countries around the world, including the UK, Australia, Canada and Mexico, with Top 5 debuts in an additional twelve countries including Germany, France and Sweden.

"So they started putting together some rad music, man – really cool stuff that made me start thinking outside my own box and challenging myself. And it was cool, ’cause I got excited again about exploring some different stuff and not just being so driven in my own thing, but thinking outside, trying to tell other people’s stories again. And that’s kind of where I’m going with this new Slipknot album – trying to tell other people’s stories and not just my own. And it’s feeling pretty rad, man. I can’t wait for people to hear it.”

Slipknot Are Bringing Back Knotfest Roadshow for 38-Date Trek

Slipknot are gearing up for the return of Knotfest Roadshow this spring as headliners on the two-part tour. Special guests In This Moment and Jinjer will join them on the first leg of the 38-date trek, and Cypress Hill and Ho99o9 on the second.

The initial leg of the tour begins on March 16 at Fargo, North Dakota’s FargoDome, and wraps on April 17 in Vancouver at Pepsi Live at Rogers Arena. Knotfest Roadshow will pick back up at Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, Philadelphia, on May 18 and extend through June 18 where Slipknot will close out the tour with a show at North Island Credit Union Amphitheater in Chula Vista, California. Tickets for Knotfest Roadshow 2022 are available starting Friday, Jan. 21 .

“Even with everything going on in the world right now, we’re still extremely excited to come back out in the states,” Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor shared in a statement. Taylor previously tested positive for Covid-19 this past summer, despite being vaccinated. “This is the worst I’ve ever been sick in my life; had I not been vaccinated, I shudder to think how bad it would’ve been,” he said. “But, because I had that extra little bit of protection, it definitely helped me get through it. So go, go, go. If you’re still on the fence, I’m telling you right now, it’s the best thing you can do for yourself.”

Knotfest Roadshow 2022 will welcome performances of Slipknot’s first new music in two years, including “ The Chapeltown Rag ,” their latest release shared at the tail end of last year. The single will appear on the heavy metal band’s forthcoming seventh studio album, out later this year.

The record will mark their third without founding member Joey Jordison who was removed from the band’s lineup in 2013 citing transverse myelitis, a form of multiple sclerosis that hindered his ability to perform. In July 2021, the drummer died at the age of 46.

Slipknot ‘Knotfest’ Italy Lineup: Legendary Metal Band Unveils First Set of Performers [DETAILS]

Slipknot has been touring around the world over the past year for their "Knotfest" series of shows/festivals, but one of the countries they haven't been to is Italy. Next year, the heavy metal band is finally visiting the region along with other music acts; who are included in the lineup?

According to Loudwire , the band unveiled the first seven bands that will perform at the festival:

• Amon Amarth
• Lorna Shore
• Nothing More

It appears that many performers are still expected to join the band as Slipknot noted that they will announce more music acts in the future.

What to Expect at Slipknot's Knotfest

For newer fans, "Knotfest" has been around since 2012 and they're still going strong in recent years. Fans should expect a "dark carnival experience" when they attend as there will be circus-themed designs around the area.

Aside from music, other attractions include amusement park rides, firebreathers, stilt walkers, pillars of fire, circus tents, junkyard cars, graffiti walls, and many more.

In a previous interview with Rolling Stone , Shawn Crahan, popularly known as Clown, explained that the festival is all about "having fun and going crazy."

"We make a day devoted to our mindset, our ideas, the people that we want to play with, the people that we think our fans want to be around," he added.

Crahan also noted that before debuting in 2012, "Knotfest" has been a concept in mind for years and it feels right that they could accomplish anything.

One of the main reasons why they decided to make the concept come to life was because of their grief after bassist Paul Gray passed away in 2010. Instead of taking time off, the group ultimately decided to "go out" and share what they feel with fans.

Aside from their upcoming "Knotfest" Italy festival, the band is currently on tour after the release of their recent album, "The End, So Far."

Their next show will be at the Movistar Arena in Villa Crespo, Argentina, on December 8. Although the show is sold out, tickets are available for their other concerts in Chile, Brazil, Australia, and many more.

General admission and VIP passes are currently available on their official website  , depending on the dates.

Slipknot announce first-ever Knotfest Italy

The festival brand will debut at Bologna's 60,000-cap Arena Parco Nord on 25 June 2023, headlined by the metal legends

Slipknot are further expanding their festival footprint by taking their Knotfest brand to Italy for the first time.

Headlined by the metal legends, Knotfest Italy will debut at Bologna’s 60,000-cap Arena Parco Nord on 25 June 2023. Other confirmed acts include Architects, Amon Amarth, I Prevail, Lorna Shore, with tickets starting at €99.99.

The festival is also set to hold its multi-venue inaugural Australian leg, presented by Destroy All Lines, TEG Live and Finely Tuned, at Melbourne’s Flemington Racecourse (24 March), Centennial Park, Sydney (25 March) and Brisbane Showgrounds (26 March). Topped by Slipknot, Knotfest Australia will also feature the likes of Parkway Drive, Megadeth, Trivium and Northlane. Tickets are priced from A$199.90 (€127).

Knotfest Japan, meanwhile, was postponed in 2022 in light of uncertainty over Covid restrictions, but has been rescheduled for 1-2 April 2023 at the 9,000-cap Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Hall in Chiba, outside Tokyo.

The Knotfest brand has expanded into multiple countries since launching in the US in 2012, and debuted in Germany this past July at Rudolf Weber-Arena in Oberhausen, promoted by Live Nation.

Events also took place this year under the Knotfest banner in North America, Finland, Argentina, Colombia, Chile and Brazil, but a UK edition, planned for Milton Keynes Bowl in 2020, was axed due to the pandemic.

Evento stupendo, primo knotfest in italia e hanno spaccato, l’attesa ne è valsa completamente la pena. 12 ore di live pensavo fossero insuperabili ma sono passate fin troppo in fretta, ero in transenna e si sentiva benissimo al contrario di alcuni al centro pit che dicono sia stato equalizzato male. Le band che anticipavano gli slip sono state fantastiche anche se speravo in qualche nome più grande (non dimentichiamo però che è stato il primo, quindi anche un’esperimento), amon amarth hanno decisamente spaccato! Un grazie ancora alla security che distribuiva acqua gratis e saltuariamente ci lavava (con tutto il caldo ci ha decisamente salvato). Spero in un ritorno il prossimo anno, GRANDI!

Knotfest 2023

Esperienza mistica, tutti le band hanno veramente una presenza pazzesca sia sul palco che nella folla, vista dal Pit bellissima. Tanta tanta roba, Slipknot fantastici, nulla da dire perché già si sa tutto di loro.

Primo concerto visto degli Slipknot,che dire..se in cuffia ti danno la carica dal vivo te ne danno il doppio... semplicemente fantastici,è stato uno spettacolo formidabile!!Sicuramente ci tornerò appena faranno altre date

Slipknot Announce Knotfest Roadshow Tour Itinerary

Slipknot has unveiled the 2022 iteration of their notorious Knotfest Roadshow tour, with the band taking on two headlining legs across 55 cities throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Tickets for all shows go on sale 10 am local time on Friday, Jan. 21 through the band’s tour website . Supporting the 38-date first leg, In This Moment and Jinjer are scheduled to open, while Cypress Hill and Ho99o9 are slotted on the second leg. The tour kicks off on Wednesday, March 16 in Fargo, North Dakota, and closes on Sunday, June 18 in Chula Vista, California.

“Even with everything going on in the world right now, we’re still extremely excited to come back out in the states, with 2 different, exciting packages,” frontman Corey Taylor said in a statement. “Whether it’s In This Moment and Jinjer, or Cypress and Ho99o9, we pride ourselves in bringing our fans the epicenter of our music and art. Come celebrate with us, and try to stay as safe as we will be.”

The band marked their return with two brand new singles back in November, which was the first from Slipknot in over two years. The tracks are off a yet-to-be-announced, forthcoming record that is expected to be released this year. They debuted the songs live at their own Knotfest Los Angeles on the same day, which was also the biggest headlining show of their career.

Slipknot Book Fall 2022 Knotfest Roadshow Tour in U.S. With 2 Special Guests

Slipknot  have just announced the fall 2022 U.S. leg of their ongoing " Knotfest Roadshow " tour. It starts in late September with a new group of nine dates across the United States featuring support from two special guest artists,  Ice Nine Kills and Crown the Empire .

The upcoming Slipknot trek kicks off on Sept. 20 in Nashville, Tennessee, and wraps up roughly three weeks later on Oct. 7 in Irvine, California. Sprinkled in are Slipknot's scheduled festival spots at Louder Than Life  in Kentucky and Aftershock  in Northern California.

The Knotfest Roadshow has already been tearing across North America throughout the spring.  In This Moment and Jinjer  supported Slipknot on the first 2022 leg of the tour, which covered much of the U.S. and parts of Canada throughout March and April. During a couple of recent concerts, Slipknot had to pause their performances  to help out concertgoers .

During a Slipknot show in Illinois last week, lead vocalist Corey Taylor  told the audience that new music from the Midwestern masked metal band is likely " within the next month ." Last year, Slipknot released the single " The Chapeltown Rag ," the group's first new material since their 2019 album,  We Are Not Your Kind . Taylor's latest solo effort, the  CMFB…Sides  EP, emerged in February.

This week, Slipknot will conclude the  second spring2022 leg of the Knotfest Roadshow tour with  Cypress Hill and Ho99o9  before heading to Europe  for several shows this summer. Get Slipknot concert tickets here.

If you intend on attending the Bologna show, it's worth noting that the Italian word for maggots is  vermi . You're going to hear it a lot.

I've seen Slipknot quite a few times now, and they ALLWAYS deliver a remarkable show, with proper energy, musical quality in their performance, and almost theatrical charismatics that keeps blowing me away.

The Telenor Arena's sound ALMOST ruined the experience, as it just can't handle this sort of scale audience, the whole audio-experience seems dull and horribly low quality if you move anywhere towards the middle of the crowd or backwards in the standing section of the audience.

First part of slipknot and All of behemoth was simply drowned out, and they somehow managed to turn the sound up a notch throughout the show.. but I won't be going back there, unless they either lower the prices or upp their sound-quality.

Slipknot were amazing, first time seeing them live. However... the sound system was dire, we really had to shift forward to hear what was going on. We could only hear the bassline and some drums. Couldn’t hear guitars or vocals clear. My videos picked the sound up a little, but you can hear everyone talking it was that quiet. Only reason I say this is that I saw Korn play with Limp Bizkit at this same venue (Arena Birmingham) in 2016... and Ray Luziers drums standing at the back of the venue near where you walk in, his snares and kicks hit you in the chest like thunder, and you could hear the clarity of the vocals, guitars, bass, everything. This time around for Slipknot unfortunately the sound just wasn’t on par which is a shame

Since I hadn’t seen them since Vol. 3, there is a lot of material I have never caught live yet. As I said, I like every Slipknot album. (Probably every Slipknot song if you don’t count demos and remixes). Unfortunately, they didn’t play anything off of ‘Gray Chapter this time, which I was a bit gutted by. I really like that album and would have loved to see something like ‘Custer,’ ‘AOV’ or ‘Sarcastrophe’ live. ‘Custer’ especially. From the first time I heard it I said to myself ”that is a song that will be in their setlists forevermore.” They also only played one song from All Hope Is Gone. I guess that’s reason enough to try see them a few more times, as I really want to catch more songs I haven’t heard live before. I’m keen to hear it all.

But given how great the new album is, I was most keen to see material from We Are Not Your Kind live. I was thinking about how much I wanted it on such a regular basis since end of the week that the album was released and it had all started to click with me. Turns out I was in luck, because if you count the 2018 stand-alone single ‘All Out Life’ which technically isn’t on the album (but which features the lyric ‘we are not your kind’ repeatedly chanted and I always mentally count as being part of that album, and have attached to the album in my itunes and on my phone and just pretend it is on the album anyway), then they played 5 new songs. Aforementioned ‘All Out Life.’ Big single ‘Unsainted,’ which opened the show. The dark, weird, almost formless album closer ‘Solway Firth.’ The groovy ‘Birth Of The Cruel’ and the stompy new single ‘Nero Forte.’ It was great to see this much new material live. It shows you how much confidence the band must have in the new album, and given the audience reaction, this confidence was well placed.

Not counting intros and outros over the speakers, there were 17 tracks. 6 of which I had never seen live before. Pretty great value. No wonder they didn’t have room for much material off All Hope’ or ‘Gray Chapter. The rest of the set featured the big singles from Vol 3; ‘Duality,’ ‘Before I Forget’ and ‘Vermillion’ as well as many classic concert favourites from the debut like ‘(Sic),’ ‘Surfacing’ and ‘Eyeless’ and topped off with a few of the heavier numbers from Iowa, like ‘Disasterpiece’ and ‘People=Shit.’

Slipknot are pretty great at mixing up sets, and not just playing the same thing every tour, swapping in a surprise or two, and dropping a few expected tunes now and again for a deep cut. The (sort of) surprises in the set were first album bonus-track ‘Eeyore’ and Iowa deepish-cut ‘New Abortion’ although I have seen both live before and both have been on official live releases so not super surprising if you want to be pedantic, but I was satisfied. In terms of dropping an expected tune, this time they dropped ‘Spit It Out’ which is almost unfathomable, as therefore they didn’t do the ‘’Jump The Fuck Up’’ moment, (where they make the whole crowd crouch for a few minutes then jump up in unison) but I’ve had that three times and on all their live albums too, so I was glad to lose it if it meant more time for new songs.

In terms of stage show, it was the biggest and best I’d ever seen them. There were videoscreens all over the place (even on the drums). There was pyro and steam. There were fireworks. There was a Nikki Sixx style bass guitar flamethrower like on Motley Crue’s The End DVD. There were treadmills which the more expendable members like the DJ, Sid, would go and play about on when not needed musically. He did the moonwalk on a treadmill at one point. Their setlist didn’t feature many turn-table focused songs this time so I guess he’s got to do something. Clown got a flaming baseball bat out for the keg smashes on ‘Duality.’

Performance and sound wise, it was really good. That’s not always a given. As much as love this band, they aren’t what I’d call consistent. Some bands are just perfect every single time (Hatebreed spring to mind). Slipknot are not one of those bands. I mean, when you have 9 members, complex awkward songs with atypical structures, and a singer inside a mask running around, its hard to get everything sounding perfect…

If you look across all of Slipknot’s official and unofficial live releases, you’ll notice they have been really hit and miss over the years in terms of both vocals and audio mix. Even on just their Voliminal DVD, which features footage from a few different shows, the live stuff goes from amazing to quite poor. The 9.0 live album which I mentioned earlier features material from across a whole tour, and that album has quite poor live vocals and subpar sound mixes. Conversely though the Disasterpeices and (Sic)nesses DVDs have superb live vocals and mixes and are absolutely must-own. The pro shot live stuff from various festivals on the first two album cycles is really mixed also. I remember MTV2 used to have footage of the band on the Iowa cycle in Germany, where Corey’s vocals were really muffled and the kick drums overpowered all the guitars. When I first got into them, on the debut album cycle, the only live stuff available was bootlegs, and they were always pretty rough. You could get pirate CDs from shows like their first time in London or from dates on the US Ozzfest, but you could tell from the CD that Corey was running around, bouncing and going crazy so much, that the vocals would suffer. Even my own live experiences of the band were mixed. When I saw them live myself in Belfast the mix and vocals were brilliant and its still one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. When I saw them headlining on the Vol. 3 cycle, the vocals were poor (he has discussed in interviews over the years that he was drinking heavily in that period) but the mix was great. When I saw them supporting Metallica on that same album cycle, the mix was poor but the vocals were good. As I said, its not a given.

I guess there’s a lot of variables for the soundmen to get right and lots of chances to get it wrong. Depending on how much running and bouncing singer Corey Taylor does, and how his mask affects the microphones, there’s a big gap between his best and his worst shows.

However, tonight it was great. It was pretty close to a perfect show. I mean, if I had to pick pedantic holes in it then I guess the guitar-intro to ‘Surfacing’ sounded a bit weird, and the vocals on the chorus to ‘Nero Forte’ were a bit thin, but otherwise it was magnificent.

The sound mix was perfectly balanced. Even the additional percussion was actually audible and you could tell why they have three drummers. The bass was thick. The guitars were clear and didn’t go muddy. The drum kit was powerful and you could pick every element out individually. The vocals were just right. I couldn’t have asked for a better mix.

The band were energetic and enthusiastic and played like a band on the rise. Drums were absolutely battered. Riffs were practically thrown into the crowd. I guess buoyed by the success of the new album, they are revitalised and fired-up. This was definitely the 2nd-best I ever seen them live; sceond only to that very first time I saw them, back in Belfast in 2002, which boasted many more songs from my favourite album, Iowa, in the set, and featured the classic line-up when they were still mysterious and I was wide-eyed and young. (And to be fair, my memory of that could in fact be a little clouded in a rose-tinted teenage nostalgia).

I always regretted not seeing them live on the last two album cycles, but I would have been heartbroken to miss them this time. Thank goodness for the weird phone/website discrepancy! This was awesome. One of the bands that have meant the most to me in my whole life, playing brilliantly, with a great setlist and sounding great. This is going to be a show I remember for a long time.
