Meet Katrina Haghighi, Program Director for Smart Journey Medical Weight Loss Program

Katrina joined the Smart Dimension team in early August 2015 as the Program Director for Smart Journey non-surgical medical weight loss. She received her Bachelor of Science in Dietetics, Food Administration and Nutrition at Cal State University, Long Beach. She completed her Dietetic Internship through Oakwood College of Alabama, Huntsville and has been a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics since 2000.

Regular medical monitoring helps reduce health risks related to weight loss and enables the staff to make appropriate adjustments to a patient’s treatment.

Lifestyle Modification

With the help of the behavioral staff, Smart Journey patients will learn to:

• Develop healthier behaviors.
• Identify triggers.
• Assess their environment.
• Make positive lifestyle choices.
• Establish an encouraging support group.

Nutritional education provided by registered dietitians will teach patients how to make healthier eating choices through individualized meal planning. Patients will also learn the importance of identifying environmental factors that influence weight gain and learn how to manage their surrounding environment to support ongoing weight control.

Individual consultations with patients are provided for meal planning. Most meal plans utilize meal replacements, which are high quality, calorie-controlled nutritional products.

Physical Activity

A physically active lifestyle is an essential component of health and weight management. Physical therapists provide guidance in establishing a safe and effective physical activity routine that best suits each patient.

Is the Program Safe?

At Smart Dimensions™ the safety of our patients is our highest priority. Throughout the program, our patients are treated and followed closely by physicians trained in internal medicine. Our patients see Smart Dimensions™ physicians and physician assistants on an ongoing basis throughout their time in Smart Journey Medical Weight Loss Program. The frequency of these visits will depend on the medical condition of the patient, what medications the patient is taking, and the patient’s individual treatment protocol.

During medical visits, patients are assessed for side effects that may occur during treatment, and active medical conditions such as diabetes and hypertension are monitored closely. Laboratory studies are done at the outset of treatment and on an ongoing basis throughout the treatment process. The frequency of these tests is also determined by the patient’s medical conditions, medications and treatment protocol.

Coordination of care with the patient’s primary care physician and other specialists takes place as needed throughout the treatment process. Our program is therefore very safe. The medical monitoring as noted above ensures a close watch on all patients and their medical conditions. We also provide physician on-call availability to our patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, should the patient need to speak with our physician for any reason.

Will I Be Able to Keep the Weight Off?

Obesity is a chronic disease. Chronic diseases by definition cannot be cured. Our treatment focuses on control and healthy weight management. Losing weight and maintaining weight loss (controlling weight) are both difficult to do and require different strategies and skills. Our treatment is designed to help patients lose weight as well as giving them the required skills to help keep it off. Our own studies have shown that a number of factors can contribute to improving the maintenance of weight loss. Patients who attend their group sessions regularly, develop a regular exercise program, and adhere to it after losing the weight, do much better when it comes to controlling their weight. Utilizing the skills learned while in treatment and continuing to put some effort into the maintenance process can help patients control their weight and keep a significant amount of weight off for a long period of time.

21 zabluda o jednostavnom društvu (j.d.o.o.)

Jednostavno društvo s ograničenom odgovornošću (j.d.o.o.) je nekoliko godina dostupno poduzetnicima za registriranje, a i dalje svakodnevno ispravljam zablude o poziciji takvog poduzeća u pravnom i u poreznom pogledu.

Ovakvu vrstu poduzeća mogu osnovati najviše tri osobe , dok za upravu mogu imenovati samo jednu osobu. Registrirano društvo će biti upisano u registar, kao i svako drugo poduzeće i podaci o njemu će biti javno dostupni, kao i za ostala poduzeća.

Trošak osnivanja ovakvog poduzeća jeste manji i iznosi 710 kn , dok je najmanji iznos osnivačkog kapitala svega 10 kn . Ipak, kad osnivači odluče promijeniti registraciju u d.o.o. , sve skupa će ih koštati znatno više novca, i to ako ih netko dobro savjetuje na koji način da to provedu.

K tome, uvijek se nameću pitanja: koji posao je moguće pokrenuti s tako malo kapitala te koliko ozbiljno će biti prihvaćeno takvo poduzeće na tržištu?

Mislim da je osnovna ideja zakonodavca bila da omogući poduzetniku da kapital i osnivačke troškove namakne iz samog poslovanja, ali su odredbe iz nekih drugih propisa zapravo otežale poziciju direktora takvog poduzeća.

U nastavku pročitajte o najčešćim zabludama o j.d.o.o.

I da, molim usvojite barem naziv: slovo ‘j’ u nazivu skraćenica je od riječi ‘jednostavno’!  Nije ni jedinstveno, ni jadno, niti nešto još gore!

Najčešće zablude o j.d.o.o.

1. zabluda - j.d.o.o. je kao obrt.

Ne, to je oblik poduzeća koji može imati do najviše tri osnivača i samo jednog direktora .

2. zabluda - j.d.o.o. se otvara u općini

Ne, postupak se pokreće u bilo kojem javnobilježničkom uredu  jer su za takva društva propisani obrasci za osnivanje kojima se ujedno rješavaju i pitanja odnosa među parterima, suosnivačima. Društvo će biti osnivano upisom u registar pri trgovačkom sudu.

3. zabluda - j.d.o.o. se može baviti samo jednom djelatnošću

Ne, u pogledu broja i vrsta djelatnosti nema nikakve razlike u odnosu na d.o.o. te i jednostavni d.o.o. može biti registriran za mnogo djelatnosti istovremeno.

4. zabluda - za otvaranje j.d.o.o. osnivač mora dokazati svoju stručnost za određenu djelatnost

Ne, to će biti eventualno potrebno kasnije . Ipak uvjeti propisani unutar određene struke, odnose se i na ovakva poduzeća, ali to do izražaja dolazi kasnije, a ne prilikom otvaranja.

5. zabluda - za otvaranje j.d.o.o. treba imati dokaz o posjedovanju poslovnog prostora

Ne, ono se registrira na postojećoj adresi , a poslovni prostor će eventualno društvo steći kasnije, putem nekog pravnog posla: primjerice zakupa ili kupnje.

6. zabluda - osnovao/la sam j.d.o.o. pa sam sada zaposlen/a

Ne, da biste bili zaposleni potrebno je da po okončanju postupka osnivanja sklopite ugovor o radu s novoosnovanim poduzećem, i da se prijavite na mirovinsko osiguranje.

7. zabluda - direktoru j.d.o.o. pripada pravo na zaradu, profit poduzeća

Ne, direktor je osoba koja je odgovorna za poslovanje poduzeća, a dobit pripada osnivaču .

Ne, knjigovodstvena i porezna pravila su potpuno ista za ove obje vrste poduzeća.

21. zabluda - direktor j.d.o.o. ima manje odgovornosti od direktora d.o.o.

Ne, osim što ima iste odgovornosti , teže mu je rukovoditi poduzećem koje ima tako malo kapitala, jer mora paziti na nivo zaduženosti poduzeća.

Dobro sve proučite jer ćete biti jednako odgovorni za poslovanje kao i uprave većih poduzeća . To što ste mali poduzetnik ne olakšava vam poziciju.

Obrt (trade business) is the simplest and cheapest type of company to launch and operate in Croatia.

Here is where you can register obrt:

• At the competent office for registration of trades nearest to the headquarters of obrt, view locations here , OR

Obrt can be categorized into two groups:

• Paušalni obrt (flat-rate trade business) – ideal for beginners with small incomes; excluded from taxation since incomes can’t exceed 40.000,00 euros
• Obrt (trade business) – ideal for businesses whose incomes exceed 40.000,00 euros; included in the taxation system

Initial start-up capital isn’t required.

Operating a simple limited liability company (j.d.o.o.) in Croatia

To establish jednostavno društvo s ograničenom odgovornošću (j.d.o.o.) you need only 1 euro for the initial start-up capital investment. If you’re planning to enter the service industry where there is no investment in equipment, you should open a j.d.o.o.

Registration can be done by javni bilje ž nik (public notary), and establishment costs are around 150 euros. If you are not fluent in Croatian, an official translator is usually required at the notary for which there is an additional cost.

J.d.o.o. can have only one director and a maximum of three owners.

A društvo s ograničenom odgovornošću (d.o.o.) is the most common type of company for small entrepreneurs. The cost of the establishment is approximately 560 euros. The initial start-up capital is 2.500 euros, which can be used by the owners immediately. However, the start-up capital can be around 25.000 eura euros if you seek to get a work and residence permit as the company owner.

Responsibilities and duties of company owners in Croatia

The obrt’s owner is responsible for obrt’s duties, liabilities, and associated personal property. Owners of j.d.o.o. and d.o.o. have limited responsibility and liability as it relates to the company’s property only.

Book management and accounting in Croatia

J.d.o.o. and d.o.o. must manage all the business books according to the dual accountancy principle. Book entries are done when the bill is released, and PDV has to be paid even if an invoice isn’t charged on time. A licensed accountant is recommended, either on staff or a third party.

Obrt can manage its business books according to the simple accountancy principle, which is simpler and cheaper. Owners can manage their books independently, on their own. Book entries are done when the bill is charged, meaning their receivables are only charged invoices.

Employment and salary in Croatia

If you’re the obrt’s owner, you’ll have to pay for all the contributions – pension, health insurance, employment, safety at work. Contributions must be paid even if you don’t achieve any profit in a given month. View the latest contributions in this post .

J.d.o.o. and d.o.o. are obligated to employ at least one employee (a director) whose bruto salary is at least the minimum wage set for directors. An employee also has the option to work part-time, but a director must be full-time.

Taxation of earnings in Croatia

Obrt’s owners can choose between 3 different types of taxes. They can pay an income tax, but it is possible to choose another taxation type if it’s more suitable for obrt’s management.

Obrt’s owners can choose between:

• Porez na dohodak (income tax) – the owner pays a progressive tax rate on income
• Porez na dobit (profit tax) – the owner pays taxes for the gained profit according to the 20% rate
• Paušalno oporezivanje – the flat rate is calculated according to the obrt’s profit, and the income is completely excluded from the taxation

J.d.o.o. and d.o.o. do not have the option to choose how they are taxed.

Short list of advantages and disadvantages

• Paušalni obrt can be quickly launched
• Low opening costs
• Self-management of books
• No initial capital is needed
• Easy to open and close
• Not required to have an employee
• Ability to pause the obrt, during which taxes are not due (most commonly used for tourism businesses that pause during winter)

Disadvantages

• Owner is personally liable for the business
• Income tax payment is higher than a profit tax payment
• Master exam or professional qualification is usually required for obrt’s opening
• You may not take in more than 40.000,00 euros of revenue annually

D.o.o. and j.d.o.o.

• Profit tax payment is lower than an income tax payment
• Owner isn’t personally responsible for the business
• Dual book management enables quality reporting
• No limit on revenue
• J.d.o.o. can be opened with only 1 euro start-up capital
• Higher business costs
• Minimal initial capital of 2.500 euros is mandatory for d.o.o. (unless you are seeking a work permit as the director, in which case it will be 25.000 euros)
• Liquidation and closing process can be time-consuming and expensive, during which the director must continue to be paid full salary
• Accountant is recommended
• Must hire at least one employee, usually the director, who must have a full-time salary
• Not allowed to pause the business
