The 30 Best California Breweries to Visit

* This article contains affiliate links, which help run this site at no extra cost to you.

TL;DR: The best California breweries are Ballast Point Brewing Company (San Diego), Brew Crew Inc (Riverside), and Thirsty Bear Brewing Co. (San Francisco). Here are the key takeaways from my review of California breweries:

  • Ballast Point BRewing Company is one of our favorite breweries in San Diego and home to my favorite beer, the Sculpin IPA. They offer over 50 beers on tap, an extensive food menu, and indoor and outdoor seating with views of the brewing equipment.
  • Brew Crew Inc in Riverside is a collaboration between 3 local breweries, making it a personal experience that we love. They offer over 24 craft beers on tap, a full kitchen serving bar food, and indoor seating as well as a dog-friendly patio that overlooks the brewhouse.
  • Thirsty Bear Brewing Co. in San Francisco is my favorite brewery for family get-togethers, offering a selection of 10 handcrafted beers, prominently known for their award-winning Valencia Wheat Beer. They have a full-service restaurant with Spanish-inspired cuisine, a spacious interior, an inviting outdoor beer garden, and occasionally offer brewery tours as well.

With 570 California breweries up and down the state, the Golden State has more craft breweries than any other state in the USA.

Born and raised in California , it is also the place where I had my first experience with craft beer – Arrogant Bastard from Stone Brewery to be exact.

California is known for its craft beer culture, specifically in San Diego and San Francisco, but there are so many other breweries within the state that are worth a stop.

The 30 Best Breweries in California | The Atlas Heart

After going to a sour tap takeover of Cantillon beer in Portland a few days ago, I was inspired to recreate the beer journey I recently went on from San Diego to Eureka.

I also made sure to add on my other favorites that I didn’t get to stop in at the last time around.

For the following breweries, I’ve either been to them personally, tried their bottled beers before, or have heard so many recommendations about them from friends in the craft beer industry that I couldn’t leave them off the list.

Table of Contents

Stone Brewing Co. – San Diego

The brewery that started it all for me, and where I had my first taste of good California craft beer.

A kick to your taste buds – in a good way – Stone Brewing is all about the hops, high alcohol, and strong beers.

The brewery covers an expansive complex that includes a rock garden and a few different areas to sip your beer in a relaxing setting.

You can take free brewery tours here, but it’s a first-come-first-serve basis so put your name on the list as soon as you get there.

Be prepared for a fairly expensive food menu, the beer mac & cheese is the best! Also, this is one of the most popular north county breweries in San Diego so it’s often busy.

Signature beer : Arrogant Bastard Ale, 7.2%

Where to find : 1999 Citracado Parkway.

Recommended Experience: Tijuana Taco and Craft Beer Tour from San Diego

Ballast Point Brewing Company – San Diego

One of my favorite breweries and where I found my all-time favorite beer (Sculpin IPA!), Ballast Point is a quality brewery that has made a name for itself in the San Diego craft beer scene.

It’s easily considered one of the best breweries in Southern California.

There are two locations for Ballast Point in San Diego – the original location in Miramar, and the newer one located in downtown Little Italy.

There’s outdoor seating at the Little Italy location and a varied tap list, depending on the season.

Ballast Point is always keeping it fresh with uncommon beer styles and combinations, such as the Habanero Sculpin IPA, that keeps the homebrew vibe alive and well in a successful large-scale brewery.

Half Door Brewing Co. – San Diego

The new kid on the block in San Diego, Half Door Brewing is located right near Petco Park and provides a refreshing Irish countryside spin to the West Coast-focused southern California breweries around town.

At Half Door, you’ll find traditional Irish beer styles, such as an Irish Red and, my personal favorite, the Irish Dry Stout on Nitro.

They also brew a delicious Berlinerweisse that’s worth a taste if you enjoy sour beers.

This is one of the smaller breweries you’ll find in downtown San Diego, and therefore comes off as personal and intimate.

Signature beer : Colmans Stout (Nitro), 4.8%

Where to find : 903 Island Ave.

Karl Strauss Brewing Company – San Diego

You can find Karl Strauss pretty much everywhere in San Diego.

The original brewery is over on Santa Fe Street, but they have brewery restaurants in almost every suburb.

Karl Strauss is seen as a more commercial brewery in San Diego, and perhaps a tad less original when it comes to unique beer styles.

However, don’t let that fool you into thinking they don’t make quality beer, because they do.

Signature beer = Red Trolley Ale, 5.8%

Where to find : 5985 Santa Fe St. (but you can find their brewery restaurants all over San Diego)

Mission Brewery – San Diego

Mission Brewery has won so many beer awards they must be losing room on their shelf of trophies.

With a very laid-back Southern California atmosphere, Mission is located in a brick warehouse that’s open and airy.

It’s the perfect place for an afternoon beer.

The roots of this brewery go way back, they were even around during the hard times of Prohibition.

It wasn’t until 2007, when the avid home brewer, Dan Selis, reestablished the brand and set-up the tasting room in San Diego.

Now it’s one of the best breweries in Southern California.

Green Flash Brewing Company – San Diego

Green Flash is the poster child for the West Coast IPA style and known for the constant high quality of beer they brew.

Located in an industrial business park, which is not unusual for Southern California breweries, Green Flash has a beer garden and food trucks to create a communal feel in a large brewing complex.

Also, I’ve heard the brewery tours are great here, giving you good insight into the life of brewing.

Tours are $5 for a 1 hour experience behind the scenes and the chance to have a guided tasting of 4 beers.

Signature beer = West Coast IPA, 8.1%

Where to find : 6550 Mira Mesa Blvd.

Pizza Port Brewing Company – San Diego

Pizza Port is another brewery that has multiple locations around San Diego, but the Solana Beach location has to be my favorite of the north county breweries (besides maybe Stone).

I have fond memories of grabbing pizza & beer here before heading off to LA from the train station across the street.

It’s just steps from beautiful Solana Beach and I’ve always had great service at this location.

Pizza Port is a local favorite that has a homebrew feel to their beers and a very unique pizza line-up.

This is some of the best pizza you’ll find in San Diego, and the people who work here all look like chilled out surfers, fitting the San Diego personification quite well.

Signature beer = Ponto Pale Ale, 5.4%

Where to find : 135 N. Highway 101, Solana Beach.

Wicks Brewing Co. – Riverside

Located in a business park, Wicks Brewing is just another California brewery that I was pleasantly surprised with in Riverside, a city I had never associated with craft beer before.

Wicks has a clean brewing operation set-up, and they offer the unique feature of hosting brew classes for those who want to learn the art of how to make beer.

Wicks Brewing - Riverside, California - Micro breweries in California

Signature beer = Bard’s Song Brown Ale, 5.9%

Where to find : 11620 Sterling Avenue Suite C.

Brew Crew Inc – Riverside

My favorite brewery in Riverside, Brew Crew Inc is the first collaboration brewery I’ve been to.

There are three different small breweries that share the space, collaborating and taking turns with brew days.

It’s a locally run place and personal in how you can meet the brewers and watch them work on small batches for the day.

The 3 different California breweries you’ll find here are Polymath, Delicious Science, and Fermatrix homebrewing.

We found so many interesting experimental beers here that were not only creative but incredibly delicious.

Brew Crew Inc - Riverside, California - beer tasting California

Signature beer = Sir Charms Breakfast Stout, 7.5%

Where to find : 11626 Sterling Ave Suite G.

Eagle Rock Brewery – Los Angeles

Located in a converted warehouse in Los Angeles , Eagle Rock Brewery hosts a laid-back tasting room with beer styles that range from sessionable to imperial.

Going from the minimalist design of the place and menu choices, this brewery is all about the beer.

Grab lunch/dinner beforehand and just enjoy tasting good beer and chatting to people who are knowledgeable about the product.

Recommended Experience: Los Angeles Brewery Yoga

Signature beer = Populist IPA, 7.0%

Where to find : 3056 Roswell St.

Monkish Brewing Co. – Los Angeles

A hard-to-find brewery with a small tasting room, Monkish Brewing Co. is worth the hassle to get to.

It’s a Belgian-inspired brewery that excels at its specialty.

Combine that with 80s music, free snacks, and friendly staff, and this is not a brewery to be missed if you’re in the LA area .

Recommended Experience: East and Central Los Angeles Beer Hop

Signature beer = Crux Belgian Ale, 5.6%

Where to find : 20311 S. Western Ave.

Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co. – Santa Barbara

Figueroa Mountain’s original brewery is located in Buellton, but why not make an excuse to stop in the stunning seaside town of Santa Barbara if you have the chance?!

After being less than impressed with Santa Barbara Brewing Company, the only other brewery in town, Figueroa was the perfect stop to start off a day exploring town.

One of my favorite aspects was the colorful placards that came with each beer on a tasting tray, describing the beer, giving the percentage, and any pairings it would be good with.

I love that amount of information when I’m trying a lot of different beers.

They don’t have any of their own food, but the Italian place next door makes delicious pizzas that you can have ordered over and delivered to the bar.

Recommended Experience: Saturday Urban Santa Barbara Beer Tour

Firestone Walker Brewing Company – Paso Robles

Although Paso Robles may be a little out of your way if you’re sticking to Hwy 1 up the coast, Firestone Walker produces some of the best beers and is known as one the best breweries to visit in California.

The brewery offers free tours by appointment, and there is a restaurant set up with everything from steaks to pizza.

They’re especially known for their unique barrel-aged beers and punchy IPAs.

Some of their more exotic beers aren’t available as bottles in local stores, so it’s worth a stop in at the brewery to experience.

Recommended Experience: Hearst Castle Tour from Paso Robles

Signature beer = Double Jack IPA, 9.5%

Where to find : 1400 Ramada Dr.

Seabright Brewery – Santa Cruz

Put on the list partly for nostalgia, Seabright Brewery is a beachside restaurant that I used to always go to with the family, growing up in Santa Cruz.

You won’t find any crazy styles or particularly phenomenal beer, but it’s one of the original breweries in Santa Cruz and definitely a local’s place.

Their food, especially their seafood dishes, are mouthwatering and deliciously fresh. The location, within walking distance to the beach, is unbeatable.

Time it right, and go watch the sunset at Seabright Beach after dinner at the brewery for the ultimate Santa Cruz experience.

Signature beer = Seabright Amber Ale, 5.0%

Where to find : 519 Seabright Ave.

Uncommon Brewers – Santa Cruz

A new brewery that has popped up in the recent brew scene in Santa Cruz, Uncommon Brewers is all about wacky and out there styles that taste good, such as their Bacon Brown Ale.

You can tell that the owner and brewmaster, Alec, is passionate about the product he’s creating.

The brewery is still a small set-up with visits to the tasting room by appointment only.

They’re known for their green practices in only making organic beer and exclusively using recyclable one-way keg technology.

Signature beer = Bacon Brown Ale, 6.8%

Where to find : 303 Potrero St. Ste. 40-H.

Discretion Brewing – Santa Cruz

Combine a fun funky atmosphere with delicious brews and food, and you have a classic Santa Cruz brewery restaurant.

Another place for the locals, Discretion is a neighborhood hang out that has a small beer garden with styles from Belgians to Irish stouts, especially highlighting European-type beers.

Recommended Experience: Ride a Steam Train through the Santa Cruz Redwoods

Signature beer = Uncle Dave’s Rye IPA, 7.0%

Where to find : 2703 41st Ave, Soquel

21st Amendment Brewery – San Francisco

I first fell in love with the quirky 21st Amendment when I tried their Hell or High Watermelon Wheat beer on a hot summer day.

I was hooked.

This multi-level brewery is the place to go in San Francisco before a Giants game as it’s right next to the AT&T Ballpark.

Their finger foods and appetizers are some of the best for savory goodness (cheese curds!).

Signature beer = Hell or High Watermelon Wheat, 4.9%

Where to find : (1) 563 2nd St (2) 2010 Williams St, San Leandro.

Thirsty Bear Brewing Co. – San Francisco

Perhaps  the  most popular brewery to visit in San Francisco, besides Anchor Brewing, Thirsty Bear takes over a huge amount of real estate to create an airy beer hall vibe with the feeling of camaraderie.

This place is two stories and usually has events of some sort going on.

Don’t let the size intimidate you, there is usually plenty of seating and a lot of good times to be had at Thirsty Bear.

It’s a great place to come for happy hour, especially for big groups.

Recommended Experience: Half Day Craft Brews and Bike Tour in San Francisco

Thirsty Bear Brewing - San Francisco, California - California breweries

Signature beer = Howard Street IPA,  7.0%

Where to find : 661 Howard St.

Anchor Brewing – San Francisco

The granddaddy of craft beer in the Bay Area and the country for that matter, Anchor Brewing was America’s first craft brewery.

They’re known for their famous Anchor Steam beer that you can find in almost every bar in the city.

It’s important to note that the taproom isn’t open to the general public and they only offer two guided tours every weekday.

Tours of the brewery are free but you sometimes have to book them months in advance because they’re so popular.

The tours are highly informative, not only about the great range of beers produced at Anchor but about the rich history behind the brewery as well.

This is a landmark brewery to visit in California for its history, and one of the top California breweries not to miss.

Signature beer = Anchor Steam Beer, 4.9%

Where to find : 1705 Mariposa St.

Speakeasy Ales & Lagers – San Francisco

Speakeasy has to be another one of my favorite breweries in California, if only for their awesome beer labels and branding – but don’t worry, the beer is phenomenal as well.

Staying true to their name, they have a speakeasy-style bar in San Francisco that probably has the coolest atmosphere out of any other brewery in the city.

They’re known for their big and bold hopped-up beers, such as their Double Daddy IPA, so be prepared to rock the socks off your tastebuds.

Signature beer = Double Daddy IPA, 8.5%

Where to find : 1195 Evans Ave.

Jupiter – Berkeley

A busy and popular place on the other side of the Bay in Berkeley, Jupiter is a satisfying brewery that is known for an expansive outdoor seating ambiance, live music, and wood-fired pizzas, perhaps more than their beer.

However, they do offer up a great range of guest taps, and their own beers are not something to miss out on with everything from Nitro Stouts to Double IPAs.

Jupiter - Berkeley, California - breweries to visit in California

Signature beer = Quasar Double IPA, 8.8%

Where to find : 2181 Shattuck Ave.

Lagunitas Brewing Company – Petaluma

Right up there with Ballast Point and Track 7 as some of my favorite breweries in California, Lagunitas is a local favorite and producer of good hoppy beer.

I realized my love for the Lagunitas IPA back in college when I found out my roommate was from Petaluma.

I knew I would have to make a stop at their brewery at some point, and I finally did this year!

The brewery is almost always busy, especially on the weekends, and has a ton of outdoor seating with live music and fun events throughout the year.

It felt like a summer party when I was there, enjoying the sunshine, people roaming around and saying hi to friends, and a generally happy atmosphere about the place.

It’s by far one of the best Sonoma county breweries.

Besides the Lagunitas IPA, try the Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale and the Double Barrel Aged Hop Stoopid.

You won’t be disappointed, this is considered one of the best breweries in California for a reason!

Lagunitas Brewing - Petaluma, California - Sonoma County Breweries

Signature beer = Lagunitas IPA, 6.2%

Where to find : 1280 North McDowell Blvd.

Heretic Brewing Company  – Fairfield

If you’re heading inland toward Sacramento from the Bay Area and looking for a place to fill your growler and stop for a beer, Heretic has a great range of beers to taste test and enjoy.

At Heretic, you’ll find a welcoming atmosphere with friendly staff and food trucks.

The brewery is known for their bold hoppy beers, but their dark styles, such as the Shallow Grave Porter and the Chocolate Hazelnut Porter, are just as good.

Make sure to get a flight here to try the many different styles they offer.

Signature beer  = Heretic Evil Twin, 6.8%

Where to find : 1052 Horizon Dr.

Russian River Brewing Co. – Santa Rosa

Another one of the best breweries in California, Russian River is known for its ridiculously popular beer, Pliny the Elder, considered by many to be the best IPA in the world.

Make sure not to miss out on their Blind Pig IPA and tasty sours as well!

This is generally a really busy brewery so be prepared to wait, the pizza and beer are well worth it though.

If you’re up for a challenge, order the 19 sample beer flight to try all of their beers on tap – if you go during happy hour you get all 19 2 oz pours for $22.

Signature beer = Pliny the Elder, 8.0%

Where to find : 1812 Ferdinand Ct.

Track 7 Brewing Co. – Sacramento

Track 7 Brewing shot up to the top of my California brewery favorites after a visit to their set-up in East Sacramento.

The bartenders are friendly, knowledgeable and personal, and the beers are all extremely good AND unique.

As a hint, get the $10 sampler deal with four 3 oz samples and a free glass to take home at the end.

Located in a converted warehouse, Track 7 is also a dog-friendly brewery and has some of the tastiest food cart fare I’ve tasted.

Recommended Experience: Downtown Sacramento Historical Food Tour

Track 7 Brewing - Sacramento, California - top California breweries

Signature beer = Panic IPA, 7.0%

Where to find : 3747 W Pacific Ave.

Rubicon Brewing Company – Sacramento

Rubicon is another popular Sacramento brewery that brews some pretty interesting beers.

Located right in downtown Sacramento , I would recommend this brewery more for the atmosphere and friendly service than I would for the California craft beer.

With that said, the beer was worthy enough to make this list, so go for a tasting flight to try a mix of their traditional styles vs. their more wacky ones, such as the Grapefruit Hopsauce Double IPA.

Recommended Experience: Sacramento Beer Train

Rubicon Brewing - Sacramento, California - breweries in California

Signature beer = Monkey Knife Fight Pale Ale, 5.4%

Where to find : 2004 Capitol Ave.

Sierra Nevada Brewing Company – Chico

In 1980, Sierra Nevada was the brewery that changed the idea of the American Pale Ale, producing one that was always consistent and hop-focused.

Sierra Nevada Brewery soon became another historical part of the California craft beer scene.

The Pale Ale is the initial beer for many burgeoning beer enthusiasts, and it’s seen as the ultimate entry-level craft beer these days.

This is a larger brewery, so be prepared for an energetic and loud atmosphere in the tasting room with a lot of people.

The brewery tours come highly recommended to get a sneak peek into the pioneering craft beer history of California.

Make sure to book ahead of time because the tours fill up fast!

There are 4 different types of tours, spend a whole day going on them or just choose one or two to get a good overview of the brewery.

Signature beer = Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, 5.6%

Where to find : 1075 East 20th St.

Bear Republic Brewing Company – Healdsburg (Sonoma County)

In the middle of Sonoma Wine Country, you’ll find an unsuspecting popular spot by the name of Bear Republic, that produces some fantastic beers, especially in the realm of hopped-up styles.

This family-owned brewery creates fresh and never filtered beer, it’s generally a busy and crowded place that serves up delicious meals and pours a wide range of tasting flights for you to try.

This is another favorite of the Sonoma county breweries.

Their Racer 5 exudes West Coast IPA and is a must-try, but other ones to add to your tasters would be Hop Rod Rye and the Red Rocket Ale.

Signature beer = Racer 5 IPA, 7.5%

Where to find : 345 Healdsburg Ave.

Anderson Valley Brewing Company – Boonville

Located near the tiny little town of Boonville off Highway 253, Anderson Valley shows off that small-town country vibe from the moment you see the fake stuffed grizzly bear with antlers in the back and peruse the wooden taps.

With small-town charm, you get a personalized and friendly experience at the tasting room with a bartender who knows what he’s talking about.

Although you see their Boont Amber Ale everywhere, I was particularly impressed with their Gose-style beers.

They don’t have any food at the bar or food trucks around, so make sure to stop in at the little town deli for a homemade sandwich to bring back to the brewery if you’re hungry.

Anderson Valley Brewing Company - Boonville, California - breweries in California

Signature beer = Boont Amber Ale, 5.8%

Where to find : 17700 CA-253.

Lost Coast Brewery & Cafe – Eureka

One of the last breweries you’ll find before reaching the Oregon border, you can tell what type of place Lost Coast is by the giant fake spider that comes down on your head as soon as you open the front door – luckily, we came in from the back.

They’re laid back, part dive, part small-town local craft beer pub, they don’t take themselves too seriously but provide friendly service and decent beer.

Some of their more unique beers had fruit features, such as the Tangerine Wheat Ale and Raspberry Brown Ale.

8 thoughts on “The 30 Best California Breweries to Visit”

Bottle Logic in Anaheim, Valient in Orange and the Bruery in Placentia are two I’d put on a list to try.

It’s going to take me a while to try all of these- but I’ll definitely give it a go!

Yes! That’s what I like to hear 🙂

I can’t wait to try one of these places! Too bad my friend is sick this week & can’t drink;( I’ll see what I can do!;)

I’d definitely add 4 Sons in Huntington Beach. This is a new Orange County gem, and I may be biased since its walking distance from my house, but their tap room is one of my favourite places to grab a drink. Its still small, but they have board games and often on the weekends a food truck right outside. The only complaint I’d have is that they’re so popular, they can’t keep up with demand sometimes, although I hear they’re expanding soon!

I’ve never heard of 4 Sons, but it sounds like a great local spot. I needed some Orange County breweries to visit for next time I’m in SoCal, thanks!

Great list and so many breweries I need to visit! I’m a sour beer/wild ale fan so I would definitely add in Rare Barrel in Berkeley, Almanac in SF, Sante Adairius in Santa Cruz, and The Bruery in Placentia–those along with Anderson Valley and Green Flash, are my favorite breweries in the state. Alpine is really good too, but kind of hard to find outside of San Diego.

I love sour beers as well! I can’t believe I forgot to put on Almanac, definitely dropped the ball on that one. I love their Golden Gate Gose!! I’ll be adding those other breweries you mentioned to my list for when I’m back in California, thanks for the recommendations. 🙂

I was born and raised in sunny Southern California and will never tire of the West Coast, although I spent several years living in Southeast Asia, about as far from California as you can get. Wherever I am in the world, I love straying from the beaten path, experiencing local life, and discovering hidden gems - camera in hand. The beach is my happy place and when I am not there (or writing), you will usually find me baking, watching movies, and cuddling my pugs. I have traveled around the country and around the world, and it never, ever gets old. Being able to combine my passion for travel and my love of writing is nothing short of a dream.

Yes, but please give yourself enough time to look for a space. There's a parking structure at 803 Traction Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90013 for $10.

You can find the meeting spot here and if it's not clear you can always contact us.

Just across the street from the starting location.

All guests must arrive on time but if you inform us before the tour starts about being late we can try to assist you by telling you where the guide is. Please call the number on the contact us page. We will try to get you to where the tour has proceeded. Also, please note that unfortunately we cannot issue refunds.

Yes, of course! Please let us know your reference number and the date that you want your booking to be moved. We can do this as long as you give us 48 hours notice, and we have a tour to add you to.

All customers have to pay a small booking fee charged by our ticket provider. 2) Yes! You can pay through Paypal, but Paypal also charges a fee so we have to add 4.8% on to the price.

Kindly give us the code and we will check this from our system.

Our tours are often sold out very quickly. If the date you requested is not available, please do not hesitate to email us and we can see if there is anything we can do. We cannot promise but we will try our best to sort something out for you.

The craft beer tour will visit 3 venues and include 12 different beer samples. Each sample is the equivalent to 5 ounces of beer. The total amount that this would accumulate to throughout the tour would be approximately 4 pints. We highly recommend having a substantial meal before the tour as only two small bites are included. There are plenty of dining locations near the end of the tour and our guide will happily recommend a few options.

As the emphasis on this tour is on alcoholic beverages, this tour is not suitable for families with children under 21. However our food tours is child and family friendly and a great option for children over 6.

As this tours emphasis is on alcoholic beverages, this tour would not be suitable for anyone that does not drink alcohol.

To join our Craft Beer Tour, you should wear comfortable shoes. There will be around 1.5 miles of walking, however the majority of time will be spent in the actual venues.

You do not have to print your voucher. A confirmation on your phone will be fine!

Unfortunately, the weather is unpredictable in Los Angeles. Bring an umbrella and we will try to be more indoors than out. We do not issue refunds as per our terms and conditions. We also inform you that we never cancel a booking even if we have only 2 people! However we do reserve the right to cancel the tour if we feel the weather is extreme, and we cannot run the tour due to this for more info see our Terms and Conditions: https://www.secretfoodtours.com/terms-and-conditions/

You must book directly on our website. We do not accept cash payments. Our online payment is safe, secured and SSL protected.

The booking fee that you have to pay is up to our ticket provider and we can't change it. All our clients need to pay for it upon booking. The booking fee charged contributes to the cost of the ticketing system to provide an excellent service to our customers.

A few banks have charged their customer an extra fee while booking with us (this isn't the booking fee but another fee added by the bank). We think this is unfair, if this happens let us know by showing us in your bank statement and we will refund this fee as a gesture of good will.

The Best Places To Drink Craft Beer in Los Angeles, Ventura, and Orange Counties

Post Author

It’s your first time visiting Southern California. Or, maybe it’s your first time drinking beer in Southern California. Or maybe you’ve been drinking beer in Southern California since before anyone had ever said the words “hazy IPA” or “pastry stout” – that doesn’t mean you don’t still have some things you can learn.

Although Southern California’s craft beer culture really got off the ground in the 2010s – a decade or so later than other beer hubs in the U.S. – the scene has exploded since then. Once everyone got past the jokes about gluten, the world discovered LA and the surrounding counties have some pretty damn good beer. Which is all to say – narrowing this list down wasn’t easy. There are way, way more spots worth your time than just these 25. But when we’re talking about the best, we have to make some tough decisions.

So without further ado, it’s time to begin your Southern California craft beer journey. These are the 25 best places to drink beer in Los Angeles, Ventura, and Orange County.

Highland Park Brewery

1220 N Spring St | Downtown LA

There isn’t a style that Highland Park Brewery doesn’t knock out of the park – which is appropriate, considering this Chinatown brewery is a short (and downhill!) walk from Dodger Stadium. HPB is perhaps most famous for Timbo Pils, a mind-blowing hoppy lager, but their flagship West Coast IPA Hello, LA deserves just as much recognition for its beautiful aromas and restrained, dank, bitterness. Their efforts in New England IPAs, American lagers, spontaneous ferment sours, and barrel-aged heavy hitters are just as impressive.

Monkish Brewing Co

20311 S Western Ave | Torrance

Chances are, if you’ve heard of one brewery in Southern California, it’s Monkish. The Torrance brewery opened up back in 2012, specializing in Belgian ales like tripels and dubbels, with founder and brewer Henry Nguyen swearing he’d never brew an IPA. A few years later, he walked back that promise, and it’s a good thing he did. Monkish became one of the first adopters in California of the New England style hazy IPA . Now, those are their most sought-after beers, especially for beer traders across the country – which resulted in hours-long lines on release days. But lines have mitigated somewhat, especially after the opening of a second location in Anaheim – which happens to be steps away from Modern Times, further down on this list. Their hazy IPAs are hop-forward and juicy as hell, with well-balanced aromas and flavors ranging from tropical, to dank, to floral.

Casa Agria Specialty Ales

701 N Del Norte Blvd # 360 | Oxnard

Casa Agria – Spanish for “sour house” – opened up as a membership-only barrel-aged wild ale project operated out of a small warehouse in Oxnard back in 2015. Fast forward seven years, and they’ve not only expanded their sour program and membership club, but they’ve added a wide variety of clean beers, a bustling taproom, and a steady lineup of can releases. While their legacy might be sours, they’re now known more for the hoppy beers on rotation in their taproom. Helmed by a steady stream of New England and some West Coast IPAs, they’ve recently gone headfirst into the burgeoning hybrid hazy West Coast IPA style, and are continuing to make their unique mark on the Ventura County beer scene and beyond.

Green Cheek Beer

2957 Randolph Av unit B | Costa Mesa

If you’re a fan of New England style IPAs, there might be no better place in Southern California for you than Green Cheek Beer Co. They consistently have somewhere around five different NEIPAs on draft. Green Cheek’s hazies stand out because they’ve mastered the balancing act of bright juiciness with layered depth and complexity. They bring a similar balance to all of their beers, and are increasingly branching out with other new techniques, including foeder-aging and mixed-drink style beers – like, for example, a 12% ABV gin and tonic style seltzer. They’ve got a small taproom in Orange, and their Costa Mesa location also has a fantastic astroturfed patio, and a burger menu to soak up all that beer. They also recently opened up a new location in the Sunset Beach neighborhood of Huntington beach complete with rooftop deck ocean views, a drive-thru beer pickup station, and all the awesome Green Cheek beer that we know and love.

southern california brewery tours

Beachwood BBQ & Brewing

210 E 3rd St | Long Beach

Beachwood is a full-scale BBQ joint right along the promenade in downtown Long Beach – it also happens to be one of LA’s first craft breweries to make a national impact. After opening in 2010, co-owner/brewmaster Julian Shrago quickly gained recognition for his excellent West Coast style IPAs. Shrago is still at the helm, and Beachwood has remained at the forefront of LA breweries, embracing an old school beer list heavy on the WC IPAs, while also opening a sibling brewery – Beachwood Blendery – that focuses on barrel-aged sours. They’ve expanded to add locations in Orange County’s Huntington Beach and Garden Grove, as well, with more coming online this year.

southern california brewery tours

Enegren Brewing

444 Zachary St #120 | Moorpark

Most beer drinkers that discover Enegren Brewing today don’t realize they’ve been holed up in Moorpark, brewing up classic German lagers since way back in 2011. Nowadays, they’re operating out of a much larger facility down the street, serving up beers in their brewery hall and Biergarten alongside neighboring food, wine, coffee, and shopping retailers. Lagers are finally a style that is seeing some love, and as a result, Enegren is making its way to beer bars and bottle shops all around California. Enegren embraces tradition, but they have a good time doing it, eschewing all the old-school pretentious vibes for a beer experience you won’t find anywhere else. Trust us, we’ve looked.

southern california brewery tours

Homage Brewing

281 S Thomas St #101 | Pomona

Homage Brewing, located in downtown Pomona (about 30 miles due east of Downtown LA), rocketed to fame on the backs of their excellent sours and saisons. And as they were starting to open their location in Los Angeles proper – a block down from Highland Park Brewery – they started developing a reputation for their excellent, complex hazy IPAs, which quickly joined the ranks of the best in the city. Both are world-class, and whichever location you’re closer to will leave you happy. Both locations frequently have DJs who spin very chill lo-fi records.

southern california brewery tours

Firestone Walker The Propagator

3205 Washington Blvd | Venice

Firestone Walker is among the world’s best-known craft breweries, but they’ve been very intentional about opening up new locations. In fact, The Propagator – their Venice brewpub – is one of only two locations outside of their Central California mothership, and the only one in SoCal. They consider their Venice location to be an experimental brewhouse, meaning that in addition to their flagships – like Mind Haze and Union Jack – you can find a bunch of developmental brews you won’t find anywhere else. Plus, they always have a great selection of beers from Barrelworks, their barrel-aged sour facility. The tap room serves a bunch of excellent pub food, and both their indoor and outdoor dining rooms have plenty of space.

southern california brewery tours

Topa Topa Brewing Co

4880 Colt St, Ventura, CA 93003 | Ventura

Topa Topa Brewing started in a tiny space on Thompson Blvd in 2015, and has grown into a beer and hospitality powerhouse, opening up three additional taprooms in Santa Barbara, Ojai, and Camarillo. They’ve also brought online a massive production headquarters on Colt Street in Ventura with an expansive outdoor space. Their beer program is straightforward and approachable, leaning towards modern, drinkable takes on fairly traditional styles, served up in warm and welcoming environments that anyone could enjoy. Looking for that 15% ABV German Chocolate Cake pastry stout, or raspberry marshmallow Twinkie smoothie sour? You won’t find them here, but you will find a strong lineup of delicious, well-made brews, that will turn into a staple of your beer fridge.

southern california brewery tours

Bottle Logic Brewing

1072 N Armando St | Anaheim

Founded in 2015, Bottle Logic is one of the more polarizing breweries in the area. They’re best-known for their heavily-adjuncted pastry stouts, laden with ingredients that read like a dessert menu; molasses, peanut butter, cacao nibs, coconut, coffee, vanilla, and cinnamon are all commonly used. Weekly sales of the brews – which take place via Eventbrite – frequently sell out within minutes. Despite the commotion around the beer, the tasting room is a relatively low-key spot, and an extremely pleasant place to drink your way through some of their fantastic collection, which does, in fact, include some pretty tasty lighter stuff.

southern california brewery tours

El Segundo Brewing Co.

140 Main St | El Segundo

El Segundo Brewing Company opened its doors in 2011, one of the first breweries in the South Bay, an area now flooded with high-quality places to drink beer. And while new places have opened, closed, and reopened, ESBC’s consistency has cemented their legendary status amongst LA drinkers. Known best for dank, resiny, and highly aromatic West Coast style IPAs, their flagships Mayberry and Broken Skull – a collab with pro wrestler (and ESBC megafan) Stone Cold Steve Austin – are both excellent representations of the style. Their Main St. tasting room has a cult following of friendly locals, and their patio frequently has live music. If you’re in the mood for food, they also run The Slice & Pint, a pizza spot right around the corner, which has a robust tap list in its own right.

southern california brewery tours

Father's Office

1018 Montana Ave | Santa Monica

That place without ketchup? Really? Though most famous for having one of the best beef burgers in town – served on a sub roll with caramelized onions, bleu cheese, and arugula, and absolutely no ketchup – Father’s Office’s beer list is just as good as its burger. With frequent appearances from local favorites like El Segundo Brewing Co, Crowns and Hops, Kern River Brewing, and many more, this is not a place you want to miss on any LA beer tour. The Santa Monica original is an absolute institution, on Montana Ave. since 1953, and is the best of the three locations, but the newer (and bigger) versions in Culver City and the Arts District are worthy alternatives.

southern california brewery tours

717 Dunn Way | Placentia

Placentia’s The Bruery opened in 2008, making them something like OGs in the SoCal beer scene. Specializing in barrel-aged and experimental brews, you can find options here that read like a Michelin-starred chef’s fever dream – some of the most popular beers here are Autumn Maple, a yam beer with pumpkin pie spices, vanilla, molasses, and maple syrup, Or Xata, a blonde ale with horchata style seasonings, and Black Tuesday, a bourbon barrel-aged stout clocking in at almost 19% ABV. They also operate Bruery Terreaux, a sibling brewery in Anaheim that exclusively makes farmhouse-style wilds and sours. Both taprooms also feature beers from their Offshoot label, where they specialize in more mainstream hoppy beers.

southern california brewery tours

Radiant Beer Co.

1566 W Lincoln Ave | Anaheim

Radiant Beer Co. is as close to a wunderkind as you’ll get in the beer industry. After debuting at an impossibly difficult time – January 2021 – this brewery absolutely blew away expectations, earning local acclaim before winning Great American Beer Festival’s Small Brewery of the Year award. Started by three former employees of The Bruery – also on this list – few breweries have consistently produced this high-quality beer so soon after opening as Radiant. They excel across styles, from the toastiest dunkel to the richest pastry stout, and their pale ales really stand out in a saturated market. Try any (and all) that are on tap.

southern california brewery tours

Madewest Brewing Co.

1744 Donlon St | Ventura

Madewest Brewing Co. may have started out of their Donlon Street location, but it’s their satellite taproom on the top floor of the Ventura Pier that makes this list. Known regionally for the clean design and simple naming of their core beers (Standard, Light, etc), Madewest has continued to impress with their limited release West Coast IPAs, hazy beers, and lagers. Of note is their rotating collaboration series “Short Lived” which has seen them team up with brewers like Beachwood, Humble Sea, Highland Park, Fall, Faction, Mumford, There Does Not Exist, and more. Once you order, head out to the deck to enjoy the sunset ocean view you can get on the West Coast.

southern california brewery tours

Spoke Nights @ Spoke Bicycle Cafe

3050 N Coolidge Ave | Frogtown

Located on a giant patio off the LA River Bike Path in Frogtown, Spoke is a great cafe in the daytime. But their smash-hit new project called Spoke Nights is a beer experience for a new generation. Beer buyer Jimmy Smith custom-curates an ever-changing list of ten or so epic, hard-to-find beers from breweries near and far. In addition to local stars like Bottle Logic, Homage Brewing, and Highland Park Brewery, you can find other California Hall of Famers like Moksa Brewing, Alvarado Street Brewing, and Sante Adairius Rustic Ales. Spoke also hosts some of LA’s best – and most elusive – food pop-ups.

southern california brewery tours

Fluid State

692 E Main St | Ventura

Few things go together as well as beer and pizza, and Fluid State takes that pairing to a whole new level. Situated in a historic building on Main Street in downtown Ventura, Fluid State has made a name for itself with legendary sourdough crust pizzas and elevated bar food. But the beer program is just as strong here. 24 rotating taps are expertly curated by owners Aaron Duncan and Jen Schwertman, who use the relationships they built from years working in the beer industry to highlight amazing, hard-to-procure beers from the best breweries up and down the West Coast. Wine and cocktails round out the menu with plenty of sun-filled patio seating and a dedicated parking lot that set them apart from others Downtown.

southern california brewery tours

House of Billiards

14662 Ventura Blvd | Sherman Oaks

Off to the side of a dimly lit pool hall along Ventura Blvd. in Sherman Oaks is one of the best-kept beer secrets in LA. House of Billiards might be known for its pool tables – some of the best in the area – but it’s the 19 taps of rotating craft beer that do the real talking. Expect local favorites like Highland Park Brewery, Beachwood Brewing, Green Cheek Beer, Riip Beer Co., and HopSaint Brewing, in addition to a handful of rare and hard to find beers from around the country. With plenty of space and enough TVs to catch whatever game you’re looking for, House of Billiards is the definition of hidden gem.

southern california brewery tours

Bottle & Pint

1714 Newbury Rd | Newbury Park

Bottle & Pint took the bottle shop and taproom concept to Ventura County and never looked back. Newbury Park is the original location, set up in a pretty standard retail shopping center. But it’s the beer list that really stands out, from the 12 rotating taps of tough-to-find beers, to the walk-in beer cooler where you can choose from dozens of beers to drink on-site or buy to-go. Their Oxnard location opened up a few years later, inside The Annex food hall at The Collection mall, and offers up more of the same elevated beer selection but with more seating and a handful of great local food options available to pair with your beers.

southern california brewery tours

Windsor Homebrew Supply Co.

1045 N Armando St Suite E | Anaheim

Windsor is a singular experience, as far as craft beer shops in California go. They’re the ultimate multihyphenate in their field, as a bottle shop/tasting room/brewing supply shop/host of home brewing classes and salon style discussions. The bottle shop has a host of excellent, limited distribution beers from far-off places like 3 Fonteinen, Anchorage, Jester King, and Alvarado Street. Their hyper-knowledgeable staff can help you out whether you’re looking to try some fun new beers, getting into homebrewing, or are an experienced brewer looking to take your equipment to the next level.

southern california brewery tours

Transmission Brewing Co.

1098 E Front St | Ventura

When news broke in 2018 that the Jonker family – behind local favorite pizza chain Toppers Pizza – was opening a brewery in a former auto shop, it was anyone’s guess how it would turn out. Well, Transmission Brewing opened in January 2020 with a shiny new 30-barrel automated brewhouse capable of scaling to production levels that smaller breweries only dream of, a somewhat green brewer in Carey Jonker leading his first commercial project, and, most importantly, a lineup of really solid beers out of the gate. Since opening, Transmission has weathered the COVID storm and continued to put out a really strong lineup of beers in a gorgeous space – connected to a Toppers – with indoor seating alongside the brewery and outdoor patio seating where you can catch a whiff of sea air. Their lager program is where the beers really stand out; Clutch, their German style Helles, and Upshift, their hoppy Pilsner are both standouts and go great with a Toppers slice.

southern california brewery tours

Hi-Lo Liquor Market

8582 Washington Blvd | Culver City

It’s a bold claim to say a liquor store is one the best places to drink craft beer, but Hi-Lo isn’t just any package store. With locations in Culver City and Long Beach – and a soon-to-open one in Costa Mesa – no one in LA or Orange County is ever too far from one of these shops. Each store carries a giant list of fresh cans and bottles from across the country, which you can bring home or drink on-site. The Long Beach location features eight taps – six in Culver City – with excellent breweries both local (Radiant Brewing, MadeWest Brewery), and far-off (Fremont Brewing, Great Notion Brewing).

southern california brewery tours

The American Dream

21058 CA-1 #130 | Huntington Beach

There aren’t many old school tap houses left anymore – the kind popularized in the early ‘00s, with countless beers on tap and a sh*tload of burgers. Well, if you’re feeling that void, American Dream will absolutely fill it. They’ve got a rotating tap list of 60 beers that includes some of the hardest-to-find beer in the state, including limited release beers from many places on this list – The Bruery, Modern Times Beer, and Beachwood Brewing, among them. They’re right on PCH in Huntington Beach, an area that is truly unique for any visitor to Southern California.

Take a Ride Along Southern California’s Beer Trail

Pinpointing the hottest region for craft beer in the U.S. is a difficult task, but Southern California is certainly on the short list. From innovative ales to the classic West Coast-style IPA, the area is renowned for the output of its top-notch breweries — and Los Angeles, California, is a good starting point to begin exploring them. Of course, if you’re doing a brewery tour you don’t want to be the one behind the wheel. So, secure a designated driver first. Then it’s time to hit the road.

Los Angeles

It’s worth making a stop or two in your departure city. Smog City , in the suburb of Torrence (also the home of the Western Museum of Flight and the Toyota Automotive Museum), is a great starting place.

Inside the funky, industrial taproom, you’ll blend with millennials and beer tourists alike, all seeking to sample the brewer’s award-winning creations. (Smog City has won several medals at the Great American Beer Festival — the Super Bowl of the beer world.)

It’s a working brewery, meaning you’ll be surrounded by brewing equipment and seating is a bit limited, but it’s an authentic experience. Beers you’ll want to sample include Sabre-Toothed Squirrel, a red ale, and the Kumquat Saison.

Head east from Torrence to Santa Ana, California, and stop by The Good Beer Company . You’ll immediately be struck by the mural on the wall with three bears overlooking the taps in the intimate taproom.

The brewery is influenced by Belgian brewing traditions and is one of Southern California’s masters of Belgian-influenced ales. You’ll find a wealth of funky farmhouse and tart gose ales alongside traditional offerings like a Pale or Blond Ale.

Be sure to try the Hoppy Oro, a dry-hopped sour farmhouse ale, and George, a tart ale that’s aged in oak barrels with peaches.

If you’ve got the time or need a break from beer, be sure to visit the Santa Ana zoo – especially if you like monkeys. (The donor of the land it sits on stipulated the zoo must house at least 50 monkeys at all times.)

61.6 miles from Santa Ana; 72 mins drive time

When you’re ready to resume the Beer Trek, hop on I-5 and enjoy the picturesque views of the Pacific Ocean as you head south until you hit Carlsbad. Once you’re in Carlsbad, take a quick detour on CA-78 to Vista, California.

Your first stop in Vista should be at Belching Beaver Brewery . Despite its odd name, Belching Beaver’s reputation is growing quickly among beer lovers, and the brewery has actually quadrupled production since 2015 as word of the quality of the beers has spread.

You’ve got two choices for locations — the original, bare-bones production and tasting room or the brewery’s Tavern and Grill six miles north. The former is for those who prefer an authentic industrial brewery environment, but the Tavern is the more popular choice, with a good-sized patio (complete with fire pits) and well-regarded food. There’s even a wine vault that’s made from a repurposed bank vault.

You’ll find rarer beers at the production facility, but wherever you stop be sure to try the creamy and delicious Peanut Butter Milk Stout and the Damned! Double IPA.

6 miles from Vista; 15 min drive time

Though it may be tempting to head back over to the coast, take one more inland detour to San Marcos, California, next. There you’ll find The Lost Abbey and Port Brewing , sister breweries that are among the most well respected beer makers in the state, due to the quality (and scarcity) of their beers. The breweries have more than 1,000 oak bourbon, brandy, sherry and wine barrels that are used to create remarkable barrel-aged offerings.

The Lost Abbey’s tasting room is filled with ornaments and images that evoke an actual abbey that makes world class Belgians. It’s a fun and jovial place to have a beer, but can be loud at times. The attached barrel room is a quieter, more intimate place to enjoy your beer.

Port Brewing has a wider selection of beers than The Lost Abbey, including more traditional lagers and hop-forward IPAs, but everything on tap is sure to please even the most discerning of drinkers.

This is a good place to grab a bite to eat along your journey as well, as San Marcos has some of the best restaurants in the San Diego vicinity. Old California Restaurant Row is a good place to start looking. It’s also a town loaded with golf courses and bike paths. And Double Peak Park is the highest coastal peak in the county.

Solana Beach

18 miles from San Marcos; 43 mins drive time

Either hop back over to I-5 (passing Legoland California) and continue heading south or take a scenic drive along Highway S6 through the Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve.

Both routes will take you to Solana Beach, California, where you’ll want to stop at Pizza Port Brewing . There are also locations in Carlsbad, California, and San Clemente, California, if you can’t wait to try this brewery, but the Solana Beach stop has a rustic feel, with indoor and outdoor seating and funky murals on the wall.

It’s a favorite hangout of locals — and, if you’re a real fan of beer trivia, the first keg of Stone beer was tapped at this location.

Each Pizza Port location pours something slightly different, but if you’re a fan of Pale Ales and IPAs, this is a must stop brewer. Be sure to try Swami’s IPA, no matter where you stop. Carlsbad is the newest and biggest of the tap rooms, but Solana Beach has a bit more character.

22 miles from Solana Beach; 28 mins drive time

Finally, pull into San Diego, California, where all of your beer fantasies will undoubtedly come true. There’s an embarrassment of riches here for beer lovers. Green Flash , AleSmith and Ballast Point are all world-class breweries that are worth your time, but if you’re on a tight schedule, the place you absolutely want to hit is Stone Bistro & Gardens .

Hotels Trip Ideas person outdoor crowd wine people drinking festival Drink

There you’ll be able to enjoy a meal at the top class restaurant/bistro (with an emphasis on local, small-farm organic foods). Afterward, grab one of the renowned brewer’s freshest beers and explore the extensive gardens area or relax in one of the Adirondack chairs or covered outdoor couches. After that ride, you’ve earned it.

California Through My Lens

Best Breweries in Southern California

Now I am by no means someone with an exceptional palette, but I have braved many a donut shop or brewery on the hunt for my favorite. Since California is so big and I haven’t spent as much time up north as I would like, I decided to constrain this list to the best breweries in Southern California (in no particular order). This list was written in 2015.

Ballast Point

Ballast Point 15

Ballast Point is probably my favorite of the bunch if we are solely basing it on beer. Every time I go, there is a new flavor they are trying, and I have had everything from a beer with ghost chilies (hottest in the world) to beer with chai and ginger. All of this, while still making one of my favorite IPA’s called Sculpin. It is a great stop, and the tour they give is fun as well. I wish there were a little more space as it can get busy but an easy pick for the list. Try the Sculpin IPA, or whatever crazy beer is on tap that day.

Stone Brewing Company

Stone brewery beer and gardens

I know this is an easy pick and not especially helpful, but if you are talking about breweries in all of California Stone Brewing Company would probably be high on that list. They have created an experience that is second to none with their gardens that you can walk through and their stellar food. The beer is great if you like heavy beers, but even if you don’t, you would be hard-pressed not to enjoy sitting by the massive stone fireplace with a soda they also make on site. If you haven’t been, stop reading this post and go. Try the Stone IPA or the Levitation Ale .

The Bruery

the bruery beer

Yes, that is how it is spelled, and yes, this Orange County brewery knows what it is doing. The Bruery has a smaller selection of beer than many of the others, but the place is always packed, and there are even days when there are lines. The atmosphere is great as well since it has a wide-open tasting area with lots of tables and chairs to relax on. It is all wood and has a vintage vibe with its oak barrels and it steel vats in the corner. Try the wee heavy   or any of the sours .

Anacapa Brewery

anacapa brewing company 8

I may be partial to this one because I love the island it is named after and the location in Ventura, but I did enjoy their beers. Anacapa Brewery has a selection of seven and a full menu of food, and even though the place is small, it still has a great atmosphere. They have art on the walls, massive vats behind the counter, and old rustic brick walls; it is a great place to enjoy their beer with friends. Try the  Farmer Flannel Maple Brown and  Two Trees Double IPA.

alesmith

I just got turned onto this beer by a friend a couple of weeks ago, and what a great recommendation it was. The beer here is exceptional, especially for an up and coming brewery. They really have the market on craft stouts, in my opinion. The brewery itself is small but accommodating enough with its rustic wood vibe and old barrel keg tables. Try the Speedway Stout and the Wee Heavy Scotch Ale .

Alpine Brewery

southern california brewery tours

This brewery in the small town of Alpine, CA, has been making killer beers for over a decade now. It is regarded by many as making one of the best IPA’s in Southern California, and that is no small feat. The brewery has early closing times, so make sure to check out the hours if you make the trip to Alpine. Try the Pure Hoppiness or the Pale Ale .

So there it is, my list. Let me know in the comments what your thoughts are and what I left off.

Excellent experience and tour! Michael was our guide and he had a vast knowledge of Orange County and the history. We visited many places around Orange Country and got to experience "can't miss" sights. This is a great option for anyone who wants to see Orange Country and explore. I felt as if I learned and saw so much.

We took the Temecula Wine tour, starting off with lunch a Robert Rinzoni winey, before getting to the winery we drove through old town Temecula and stopped to see some long horn bulls and water buffalo. The Best Coast Tours team made us feel comfortable and showed us a great time. I have been going to Temecula for years, and this was a fun, new side of the area I hadn't seen.

Tour was 9-6; Saw everything you could wish to see - Beverly Hills, Hollywood sign, Farmers Market, Rodeo Drive etc. The driver was knowledgable. It was a great value. We never would have been able to see so much, navigate the highways and directions. It was an excellent experience.

Joe was very knowledgeable and even personalized the tour a little. We had a smashing day visiting Laguna Beach, Crystal Cove, Marina Del Rey and others all of which enhanced our holiday no end. On the way back, Joe was flexible enough to take us to a lovely spot to spend the evening at Newport Beach rather than a return to our hotel.

We toured both LA and Orange County beaches with Best Coast Tours last week. Joe and Michael are outstanding hosts providing historical information regarding the sites along with just the right mix of pop culture. Not only are the extremely knowledgeable about the area, they are fun! We are so glad to have picked Best Coast Tours to introduce us to California.
