It's amazing how high energy and amazing those guys still are!

Full two hours of an amazing show!

Started with apocalypto video + songs and "ended" with almost hour and a half of the greatest hits.

Truly the BEST BAND IN THE WORLD.

This band is amazing, this venue is amazing, the night was perfect. I can wish for drinks to be cheaper, to not have to drop $40 to feel buzzed, but that's how concerts are... We got some merch before the show, the line kept moving. Nice that it wasn't as big a venue as last time I saw Tenacious D at CalJam. The opening act was ok, I get that their founding member is part of Tenacious D so they want to support him, but it really wasn't everyone's jam. I was surprised Tenacious D played almost the entirety of Apocalypto straight through. Then, of course, their greatest hits afterward. The projection storytelling was awesome.

Comedy Rock Legends Tenacious D Bring The Spicy Meatball Tour to FirstBank Amphitheater Tonight, Sept. 7

For nearly 30 years, musical comedy duo Tenacious D have been a beloved institution in the rock scene, rising to prominence in the 2000s while the group’s Jack Black also became a household name as a comedy movie star (his bandmate, Kyle Gass, has also appeared in numerous films and TV shows over the years, including the duo’s own own short-lived late ’90s, eponymous HBO show and a movie, 2006’s Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny ). Across four albums, intermittent touring, film and television projects, awards, and famous fans (though their music is funny, their spirit of rock and roll couldn’t be more genuine), the legend of Tenacious D has only flourished, and any time the pair reconvene to make music- which they’ve made a point to do every few years- it’s always a momentous occasion.

Though their friendship extends back to running in the same theater and comedy circles in the ’80s, Tenacious D formally formed in 1994, gaining early buzz in the Los Angeles underground. scene, and making early prominent friends like David Cross and Dave Grohl (who went on to play drums for most all of their releases). Black was already a movie star, and the pair already had a cult following and a short-lived HBO sitcom, Tenacious D , before they even released their eponymous 2001 debut, adopting a full band sound instead of the acoustic style they’d initially adopted. Over the last 20 years since breaking out with their debut, the group’s activity has been a little intermittent, but whenever they reemerge, it’s as if they never left- whether for a film, an album, contributions to other artists and compilations, an animated web series, or tours and festival dates.

Currently in the midst of a global trek dubbed The Spicy Meatball Tour, Black and Gass recently debuted first original Tenacious D tune in five years, “Video Games” (which they recently performed at The Game Awards). Then, more recently, they released a recorded version of fan-favorite Chris Isaak cover, “Wicked Game” (watch videos for both below). And, finally, the duo expanded their tour with a new leg of U.S. dates, which includes their first Nashville area show in four years tonight , Sept. 7 at Franklin’s FirstBank Amphitheater , along with comedian, actor, and musician Dave Hill ! Tenacious D to Play U.S. Concerts in September 2023

Tenacious D have added some U.S. dates to their Spicy Meatball Tour. After wrapping up a handful of shows in Europe, Jack Black and Kyle Gass will begin their North American dates on September 6 in Charlotte, North Carolina. They’ll also play cities in Tennessee, Indiana, Arkansas, and Texas, wrapping things up in Austin on September 15. Check out Tenacious D’s full schedule below.

Last month, Tenacious D returned with their new single “ Video Games .” The track is produced by John Spiker, and it arrived with a music video featuring animated versions of Black and Gass. The duo also officially released a cover of Chris Isaak’s classic ballad “ Wicked Game ,” along with a goofy Taylor Stephens–directed visual featuring Black and Gass frolicking in the ocean.

On June 25, Tenacious D will perform at the annual Video Game Awards, which are being held at the Hollywood Bowl. The band is readying its next album, as Black teased at the end of the “Video Games” single.

Tenacious D is Bringing Their ‘Spicy Meatball Tour’ to FirstBank Amphitheater

Tenacious D – comprised of Jack Black and Kyle Gass just announce the expansion of their Spicy Meatball Tour in select cities across the United States this fall including Franklin.

Artist presale begins today at 9am PT, followed by local presales from 10am to 10pm local time on June 8th. General onsale begins Friday, June 9th at 10am local time. Fans can purchase tickets HERE.

The tour dates come on the heels of the recently-released recorded version of Tenacious D’s viral, fan-favorite live cover of Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game.” The single is accompanied by a video directed by longtime D collaborator Taylor Stephens, and features the duo in a glorious, romantic romp by the sea.

Last month, they released their first new song in five years, “Video Games,” which has been streamed over 18 million times across all platforms in less than a month. The animated music video, created by Oney Plays, brings video game-ified versions of Jack and Kyle to life in classic and hilarious ways.

Tenacious D gives Nashville a night of sweaty and uncensored fun

The self-described "world's most awesome band" took to Nashville Sunday night to defend its title from would-be rock 'n' roll challengers. 

No, no ... this wasn't a reincarnation of The Beatles or a Rolling Stones stadium concert. 

Sweaty, vulgar and downright funny, Tenacious D – the Jack Black and Kyle Gass comedy duo that's proudly boasted the mantle of world's greatest band for two-plus decades — returned to Music City for a 21-song set of theatrical rock antics. 

"The D" stopped at Ascend Amphitheater during a week-long summer run in support of its fourth studio album, 2018's rock epic "Post-Apocalypto." Sunday night marked the band's first Nashville show since selling out the Ryman Auditorium in 2012. 

"Looking good, Nashville," Black mused, playfully. "Sexy town you got here. You make good music, too. You know that. You make beautiful music."

Rize of the greatest hits:  The duo dove through its discography in reverse order, starting with six minutes of "Post-Apocalypto" before declaring it time for the "greatest hits." 

Backed by a three-piece band, Black and Gass kicked off the hits with 2012 hard rock epic "Rize of the Fenix." 

"Anybody see 'The Pick of Destiny?'" Black asked, earning a rousing cheer for the band's 2006 musical film. "Well, where were you when it came out? Because it was a bomb, dude. It almost killed us.

"But what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger." 

It's from there that the "School of Rock" actor flailed, jumped, danced and headbanged his way through each era of The D.

Black busted out his toy saxophone for long-running live skit "Sax-A-Boom;" he tearfully thanked the tour crew before delivering an ode to the road warrior, "Roadie;" and, in a gleeful show highlight, teamed with Gass to perform a rock-orcism on their satanically-possessed guitarist (yes. it's a thing). 

"We defeated Satan with the sheer force and power of our rock," Black proclaimed after the song, "Beelzeboss." 

You can't kill The D: The band's theatrics don't begin — or end — with a rock-orcism. A Tenacious D show lands somewhere between musical epic and sketch comedy, a tightrope the group walks without issue. 

It's meant for a good laugh, sure, but The D's unwavering commitment to the songs — no matter how outlandish — makes it nearly impossible not to buy into the goofiness that unfolds. 

And there's plenty of goofiness to go around. Gass embraces it at one point by quitting the band, only to rejoin after Black serenades him with "Dude (I Totally Miss You)," and again when crushing a recorder solo (yes, the plastic wind instrument you learn in elementary school) during "Double Team."

Black jests regularly with the audience, teasing before 2006's "The Metal" about which genre he considers "the most powerful version of rock."

"Jazz fusion? No," Black joked. "Country rock? No. Are you saying Polka? Come on." 

And, of course, it wouldn't be a Tenacious D show without "Tribute," the 2001 release still introduced as "the greatest song in the world." 

Following a handful of cuts from its 2001 debut, The D closed the show with a two-song encore, "Wonderboy" and "... Gently."

Wielding a chorus too vulgar to publish, "... Gently" brought the night's loudest singalong. The self-described "world's most awesome band" may also be the best at getting thousands to chant melodic obscenities into an unsuspecting night.

American comedy rock duo  Tenacious D formed in 1994 out of Los Angeles, California. Consisting of two best friends with one goal in mind  Jack Black and  Kyle Gass have provided us infinite laughs over the years, and keep fans craving more. Releasing their most recent studio album  Post-Apocalypto  in 2018, Tenacious D have left fans craving more content. With most popular songs “Tribute,” “Beelzeboss,” and “Rock Your Socks,” they provided fans with a sixteen song setlist and numerous fan favorites in Franklin, Tennessee. Opening with the hit “Kickapoo” Tenacious D also performed “Wonderboy,” “Video Games,” and closed out with a three song encore that included “Master Exploder,” “The Spicy Meatball Tour,” and F*ck Her Gently” which sent fans into full sing along mode. This show was like no other, from the moment the lights dimmed and the iconic duo walked onto stage, to the last note Tenacious D had fans undivided attention and were on their toes from start to finish. With more expected to come from Tenacious D, we can’t help but hope they be back to “Rock Our Socks” soon.

Tenacious D Brings Crusade, Dave Hill to 2024 U.K. Spicy Meatball Tour; Shares New Dates

T enacious D is heading across the pond for their 2024 U.K. and European Spicy Meatball Tour, and they’re bringing along a couple of friends for support. Jack Black and Kyle Gass recently announced on their website that they will be joined on the tour by Crusade and Dave Hill.

Crusade hails from Nashville, Tennessee, and consists of frontman Bryan Segraves, founder Michael Kupris on guitar, Jesse Peck on keys, Steve Casto on bass, and Nate Sletner on drums. The band works to balance accessibility and the unexpected through prog-metal shredding and surprising lyricism. According to their YouTube channel, they aim to be “powerful, dynamic, [and] fun.”

Meanwhile, Dave Hill is a musician, writer, comedian, and actor who is active in multiple power pop/garage rock/black metal bands. According to his website, he currently plays guitar in the band Valley Lodge, which Last Week Tonight with John Oliver tapped for its theme song, “Go.” Hill also plays guitar for the band Painted Doll, and was a member of the bands Sons of Elvis, Cobra Verde, and Diamondsnake, which he clarifies was a “heavy metal band with Moby.”

Tenacious D released new music in May 2023, their first in five years, with the song “Video Games.” The song comes along with a neat animated video by Chris “Oney” O’Neill, and Black sings about how he doesn’t play video games. Well, besides God of War, Red Dead Redemption 2 , and Fallout 4.

“It’s about growing up and leaving childish things behind,” Gass and Black wrote in a statement about the song. “But then realizing that video games are more than just mindless toys…. In fact, they can be a true expression of huge ideas that belong in the pantheon of great works of art! It’s about time someone defended the honor and integrity of this bold new horizon. Leave it to the greatest band in the world… Tenacious D!!!”

Earlier this year, Tenacious D wrapped the U.S. leg of the Spicy Meatball Tour , playing completely sold-out shows in Atlanta, New Orleans, Kansas City, St. Augustine, and Chesterfield. They also took the tour to Europe for the first time in June, where they also sold out multiple dates in Prague, Brussels, and London.

The Internet has pined for a Jack White/Jack Black summit for years. The “Jack Gray” collaboration rumor mill picked up steam earlier this year when Tenacious D posted a photo of White with the duo on Instagram with the caption, “we hired a new merch guy.”

In the nearly 18-minute video, after rocking their set at Lollapalooza , Tenacious D’s Jack Black and  Kyle Gass head to Nashville to visit Jack White’s  Third Man Records  store/performance venue/headquarters. After a White-led tour of the facility and a quick photoshoot, Black and Gass head back to Jack White’s house to record a new song.

As Black explains to the camera (after singing an appropriate few lines of Michael Jackson ‘s “Black or White”, “Jack White just gave us the tour of the Third Man headquarters. It’s [an] amazing facility. It’s a recording studio. It’s an art house/gallery. And now we’re heading over to Jack White’s house to record a single. … Me and Cage [Kyle Gass] have been working on a jam. It’s not quite done, it needs a little work. But I think that’s where Jack White’s gonna come in and help us pull it over the finish white. … This is a legendary co-lab. The D with Jack White. Everyone’s been waitin’ for it. Now it’s here.”

While video recording was not allowed at White’s house, the doc picks back up with Tenacious D leaving the property after finishing the session, Black clearly jazzed about the experience. Amid recaps of White’s unusual decor, Black gushes, “I think our song is the kickin’ chicken too… It’s a stone-cold jam.”

Tenacious D Announce Summer 2023 U.S. Tour

Tenacious D have been more active on the road of late — the comedy rock duo of actor  Jack Black and his foil, Kyle Gass , have now added a group of U.S. shows to their summer 2023 "Spicy Meatball Tour."

The dates come on the heels of the recently re-recorded version of Tenacious D's fan-favorite live cover of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game." The  hilarious music video  features the D in a romp by the sea.

Tenacious D last toured in parts of the U.S. over the spring. The new North American leg of the Spicy Meatball Tour for September continues the European leg that's underway this month.
