Australian Open winner Jannik Sinner’s 2024 tennis schedule: Italian makes tweak to his calendar

Jannik Sinner with the Australian Open trophy

Jannik Sinner could not have asked for a better start to the 2024 tennis season as he won his maiden Grand Slam at the Australian Open.

Playing in his first tournament of the year, Sinner stunned defending champion Novak Djokovic with a sublime performance in the semi-final and followed it up with a come-from-behind victory over Daniil Medvedev as he won 3–6, 3–6, 6–4, 6–4, 6–3.

But what does the Italian’s schedule look like after his Melbourne Park heroics?

Last year Sinner was back in action only days after losing in the fourth round of the season-opening Grand Slam as he competed – and won – the Open Sud de France, but Grand Slam champions need a bit more time to recover.

The 22-year-old played 21 tournaments in 2023, but that number is likely to be considerably lower this year as has already opted to skip a couple of events.

Jannik Sinner’s possible 2024 tennis calendar

Rotterdam open – february 12-18.

The Australian Open champion is likely to return to action in mid-February and chances are high that there could be another rematch of the Australian Open final as Medvedev is also on the entry list.

Medvedev got the better of Sinner in the 2023 Rotterdam final as he won 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.

Indian Wells Open – March 4-17

Sinner didn’t play any of the Middle Eastern events last year and his also absent from the entry lists this year with his focus likely to be on the Sunshine Double.

The Italian will be looking to go two better than last year. He lost in the semi-final against eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz during the 2023 tournament in California.

Miami Open – March 18-31

Sinner followed up his run to the last four in Indian Wells by reaching the final of the Miami Open for the second time in his career.

En route he defeated Alcaraz in a glorious match, but he went down in straight sets against Medvedev.

His previous Miami Open final appearance was in 2021 when he lost against Hubert Hurkacz.

Monte Carlo Masters – April 8-14

The Italian has kicked off his clay-court season in The Principality in recent years and last year he reached the semi-final before losing two Holger Rune in straight sets.

Madrid Open – April 22 to May 5

On the back of his health issues in Barcelona in 2023, Sinner also withdrew from last year’s Madrid Open but he will return to the Spanish capital this year for the ATP Masters 1000 event as he will be the top seed following Novak Djokovic’s withdrawal.

Italian Open – May 6-13

An Italian winning the Italian Open in Rome would be something special and Sinner will no doubt be on the entry list for his home ATP Masters 1000 title.

His best performance to date came in 2022 when he lost in the quarter-final while last year he reached the fourth round.

Roland Garros – May 27-June 9

The French Open is a favourite for Italians, but Sinner is yet to crack the code in Paris as last year he lost in the second round.

His best appearance was a run to the quarter-final on his debut in 2020, but he then ran into Rafael Nadal and lost in three sets.

Rosmalen Grass Court Championships – June 10-16

The ATP 250 event in the Netherlands is where Sinner started his grass-court season last year and it remains to be seen if he will return as the Stuttgart Open is running at the same time.

Halle Open – June 17-23

Last year Sinner reached the quarter-final of the ATP 500 tournament in Germany, but was forced to retire due to an adductor injury.

He could opt to play only one event on grass in the build-up to Wimbledon this year.

Wimbledon – July 1-14

Wimbledon 2023 was a breakthrough event for Sinner as he reached his maiden Grand Slam semi-final before losing in straight sets against Novak Djokovic.

Let’s not forget in 2022 he reached the quarter-final after defeating Alcaraz in four sets in the fourth round.

Swedish Open – July 15-21

Players traditionally take the week off after Wimbledon, but many have added an extra event in order to prepare for the 2024 Paris Games.

Sinner will make his debut in Bastad this year, although if he does go all the way at Wimbledon he will likely be a late withdrawal.

Paris Olympics – July 27-August 4

Winning Olympic gold will be high on the agenda for Sinner and he will no doubt be on the entry list for the 2024 Paris Games if he is fit and healthy.

Umberto De Morpurgo is the only Italian to have won a medal at the Olympics and his bronze medal came at the 1924 Paris Games so it would be quite something for Sinner to achieve a similar feat exactly 100 years later in the same city.

Canadian Open – August 5-11

The 2023 Canadian Open was where things really started to click for Sinner as he won his maiden ATP Masters 1000 title.

The Italian defeated Alex de Minaur 6-4, 6-1 in the final and he will no doubt return to defend his title.

Cincinnati Open – August 12-18

Last year’s Canadian Open title run was followed by a disappointing outing in Cincy as he was stunned in straight sets in the second round by qualifier Dusan Lajovic.

US Open – August 26-September 8

Having reached the quarter-final at Flushing Meadows in 2022, Sinner would’ve been disappointed to lose one round earlier last year as he went down in five sets against Alexander Zverev.

But now that he has won a Grand Slam on a hard court you wouldn’t put him past it to be there or thereabouts at this year’s US Open.

Davis Cup Group Stage – September 9-15

When you lead your country to their first Davis Cup final title in nearly 50 years then you will no doubt want to help to successfully defend the title.

Sinner is a safe bet in terms of being part of Italy’s squad.

Laver Cup – September 16-22

Jannik Sinner is yet to make an appearance at the Laver Cup, but given his start to the 2024 season and the fact that Carlos Alcaraz has already signed up, Team Europe will be desperate to get him on board for this year’s edition.

China Open – September 23-29

The 2023 China Open was basically THE tournament where Sinner became a true superstar as he claimed his first-ever win over Medvedev.

After beating Alcaraz in the semi-final, Sinner finally got the better of Medvedev to reduce the head-to-head to 6-1.

Shanghai Masters – October 2-13

But he was once again unable to make it back-to-back strong runs as he was beaten by Ben Shelton in the fourth round of the ATP Masters 1000 event in Shanghai.

Vienna Open – October 23-29

Sinner swapped Asia for the indoor courts of Europe after the Shanghai Masters and he again came up against Daniil Medvedev in the final.

The 6-1 head-to-head turned into 6-2 as the Italian won another final for the 10th title of his career.

Paris Masters – October 28-November 3

Scheduling problems meant Sinner didn’t have a deep run at the Paris Masters as his second-round win over Mackenzie McDonald finished in the early hours and he then withdrew from his fourth-round match.

But he is likely to return to Paris-Bercy this year with high hopes that the scheduling will improve.

ATP Finals – November 10-17

Following his Australian Open title win, Sinner is well on the way to qualifying for the season-opening event.

Last year he qualified outright for the first time in his career and it was a glorious week in Turin as he stunned Novak Djokovic in the round-robin phase and beat Medvedev in the semi-final before Djokovic got revenge in the final.

Davis Cup Finals – TBC

If Italy qualify for the Davis Cup Finals, then Sinner will no doubt be part of their line-up.

I sold my tickets because Five Points amphitheatre is the worst venue I have ever been to. The only time I have enjoyed a show there is when buying VIP front and Center seats and even then there security is the worst. Last show the people I knew from the meet and greet with Foreigner spent between 900 and 2000 for a paid of tickets yet when I walked down to the stage Indis not get stopped once and asked for my ticket. I learned against the rail against the stage with the aisle behind me and never was told to leave the area and neither was anyone who paid $49 for baxkrow seats. When you sit in the upper section, meaning 300's, there is no security, the seats are temporary, and its a bit more cramped then the airlines. Of someone moves, the entire section moves, and the entire row has to clear the row because it is impossible to get buy. Of anything happens in the upper sections, which is very possible seeing that everytime you get to your seat you have to ask someone who doesnt belong there to move. And when I sat 2nd row, I had at least 10 different neighbors from people climbing over the seats. With such

The band was exceptional, the lights magical, sound a bit of a problem at the beginning, but grew better towards the end of the show, especially when singing their older songs.

The Athens State Orchestra did not manage to see, except the last song - the one with Shenker - as I was entering the stadium, because, even though I had the most expensive VIP ticket (with numbered seat), I - among most of the crowd - could not enter, since there where NO lines, NOONE from the production company, NO security to help and guide us. As a result, the concert began as sceduled, at 21:00 sharp ad all of us were outside trying - I got pushed over, squeezed etc - to get in. Because of that - the entrance delay - they did not check our tickets (nobody was at the gates any way) so whoever wanted to enter the stadium - with NO ticket - could by all means enter. When entered the stadium there were AGAIN nobody to escort or show us to our seats, with limited lighting, and when we FINALLY found our seats there were people seating already refusing to get up - since they told us that people from the organisation told them to seat WHEREVER they wished, since there was no time to seat them and obviously without entry control we were outnumbered - and spend about 30 minutes trying to convince them for the obvious: to get up and let us seat on our NUMBERED seats, while searching for SOMEONE from the production company to assist. The stairs were full of people (this is against safety policy) and I managed to get down to arena after stepping on hands (it was dark as I mentioned earlier) to find someone in charge....NOONE, only one security guy who wasn't authorised to help with the situation and finally a "staff" who told me that he was a driver and would try to find someone to assist. They had NO CBs to intercommunicate and were running up and down to find whomever they were searching for. Finally, the paramedics, also had NO CBs and as we saw a girl in distress form above we were trying to communicate through signals that they should speed to the spot. The production company - I've never heard of them in Greece - are plain potential murderers.

The show of the concert was great, but we didn't really see the collusion of the band with the symphonic orchestra. The orchestra came, played their part, and after that we never saw them again. The sould could be better. The legendary Scorpions gave it all though. They made as feel good and they carried as away!

The organization was not good. Two small entrances for sooo many people. That lead to huge queues. I felt there was not so much security, during the check of the tickets.

It was great seeing Kallimarmaro full, from people who came to enjoy Scorpions!

Great experience. Could be much better.

Moscow city tourism committee organizes conference for indian mice market stakeholders.

Moscow City Tourism Committee organizes conference for Indian MICE market stakeholders

New Delhi [India], April 24 (ANI): Recognising market demand, the Moscow City Tourism Committee organized a conference for representatives of the Indian MICE industry, to introduce them to the tourism strengths of the Russian capital.

MICE stands for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions, and is a type of tourism in which large groups, usually plan things well in advance.

The event took place on April 19 in Delhi and brought together over 100 participants from MICE agencies of both countries, corporate customers, representatives of the travel industry in Moscow, Aeroflot and the Indian branches of Sberbank.

Business tourism is one of the most promising directions for Moscow.

In 2023, the capital was visited by 3.7 million business tourists - 7 per cent more than in 2022. And India remains one of the leaders among visitors from non-CIS countries in terms of the number of business travellers.

"The Russian capital as a centre of business tourism and corporate events is already an established and a strong brand in the international arena," commented Anastasia Popova, Deputy General Director for International and Industry Cooperation of Project Office for the Development of Tourism and Hospitality in Moscow.

"Now our task is to demonstrate to our Indian partners all the possibilities of organizing high-value MICE events in Moscow in combination with already proven tourist programs," said Popova.

At the Shaping MICE Future Conference, industry experts from Russia and India pronounced statements and speeches on the future of MICE events in these two countries, a presentation of the MICE potential of Moscow was showcased, and an analytical report on the state of the outbound MICE market in India was presented to the visitors.

During the panel discussion, participants assessed the current status and interaction peculiarities with the MICE market in India and developed recommendations for the MICE industry in Moscow during the general brainstorming session.

Representatives of the Indian MICE industry participated in B2B negotiations to find new cross-partners in the Moscow business environment and among representatives of the hospitality industry.

Representatives of the MICE industry took part in the event from Moscow.

Among them were DMC (Grand Rus, Academservice, Headed Goose, Satguru Travel, Isba Rus, Hug the Bear, Mellenium Group) as well as representatives of other partners interested in the development of MICE cooperation between Russia and India: Global transfers provider i'way and hotels Edge Seligerskaya and Edge Vinogradovo Moscow by Rotana.

"In 2024, we have witnessed a significant surge (more than quadruple) in the demand for transfers by Russians visiting India, both for business and leisure purposes. Muscovites are leading the trend, with 80 per cent of transfer bookings originating from the capital since the beginning of the year. Additionally, we observe a growing interest from Indian tourism agencies in exploring Russia, resulting in a substantial increase in our collaboration," commented Dmitriy Saraykin, co-founder of Global Transfer Provider i'way.

The Shaping MICE Future conference allowed the Moscow City Tourism Committee to form a pool of MICE industry representatives in Moscow to prioritize incoming requests for events and clarify India's requirements for business and corporate events to build mutually effective work. Indian colleagues received up-to-date information about Moscow as a safe and attractive MICE destination and were able to find potential partners among representatives of the MICE industry of the Russian capital and were able to present the MICE market in India.

"The event served as a remarkable platform for fostering meaningful dialogue and collaboration within the tourism industry. The event provided us with invaluable opportunities to engage with key stakeholders from the tourism department, as well as tour operators and service providers. The insights gained during the event underscored the Moscow City Tourism Committee's keen interest in the Indian outbound market, and we are optimistic about the promising prospects for Moscow as a destination, particularly in the post-pandemic landscape. We firmly believe that with concerted efforts and strategic initiatives, Moscow has the potential to emerge as a top-choice destination for Indian tourists," said Mudit Mathur, director of Tours Delite India, representing Academ Service - Russia in India.

The conference also assessed the solutions to foreign demand for non-standard venues and elements in MICE programs, such as museums, parks, theaters and others. Holding MICE events at offbeat locations, such as the State Historical Museum, the Moscow Planetarium and Khudozhestvenny Cinema, is becoming popular.
