Travel trailers. Camper trailers. Bumper pull campers. Towable trailer campers. They are known by a bunch of different names and come in just as many designs.

Today we are going to have an in-depth look at all the best travel trailer options on the market in 2022 . From big names like Jayco, Airstream, and Starcraft to some of the lesser-known brands that have captured the market’s attention in the last year – I have scoured the depths of the internet and traveled to more than my fair share of expo’s to bring you the most up to date info.

But, why choose a travel trailer over an RV?

Jayco 26rk 2021 white hawk, winnebago micro minnie 2108tb, heartland pioneer 250bh, airstream flying cloud, gulf stream ameri-lite 259bh, transcend xplor, oliver legacy elite, lance 2445 travel trailer, forest river no boundaries, the wrap up.

There are a few key reasons why someone might choose a travel trailer over a motorhome or RV.

For starters, the upfront price will be a lot lower for a travel trailer than an RV.  The smaller motor homes currently available on the market will set you back about $50,000 while travel trailers of a similar size are around $20,000 to $30,000 (although you can 100% pay double, triple, or even quadruple this depending on what you are looking for)

Travel trailers are also much cheaper to insure and maintain, and in general, are thought of as the better choice for casual campers who take shorter and less frequent trips.

Jayco Travel Trailers

The Best Travel Trailer Brands On the Market in 2022 (With Pictures, Floor Plan and Prices) 1

The chassis is a “Norco NextGen” frame  that uses high-tensile steel which claims to hold the industry’s best strength-to-weight ratio. There is an integrated A-frame that runs through the base chassis and helps in preventing any bucking or twisting from the hitch.

The walls of the trailer are built  using a process called “Stronghold VBL.” . This process ensures laminations are not only light but extremely strong, and increases the walls tactile strength.

The front profile has a round appearance which includes a front diamond plate. These design features help aid aerodynamics by reducing wind resistance.

In terms of bedding, there is a full-size Queen bed and multiple pull-out sofas with enough for up to 6 people to sleep comfortably . The living area is tastefully fitted with a more retro look than many of the competitors. This area houses the 40 inch OLED TV, with a 4 seater dining area.

One of the features that really put this travel trailer ahead of the pack is the warranty . The vast majority of the competition offers no more than a one-year warranty. Jayco doubles that, with a full 2 years for basic coverage and a 3-year warranty for the chassis!

Winnebago Travel Trailers

The Best Travel Trailer Brands On the Market in 2022 (With Pictures, Floor Plan and Prices) 6

Just like Hoover is to vacuum cleaners, or Kleenex is to tissues – Winnebago is a name synonymous with campers of all types, and for good reason.

Founded in 1958 in Forest City Iowa, the company survived a rough beginning and almost closed its doors after just 2 short years. Luckily, the hard times passed and the company survived, going on to produce its first camper in 1966.

These days they boast one of the most comprehensive camper trailer ranges, with 6 base travel trailer models and more than 30 floor plans to choose from.

I’m going to focus on the Winnebago Micro Minnie 2108TB  variation, as I feel it offers a great balance of room and features for a very competitive price! It boasts a seven-foot wide base with 10 optional floor plans (all of which can be viewed here –  https://www.winnebago.com/models/product/towables/travel-trailer/micro-minnie?floorplans=true )

The build quality is absolutely top-notch, with the high-grade structural steel and aluminum being used throughout chassis and frame.

Heartland Travel Trailers

The Best Travel Trailer Brands On the Market in 2022 (With Pictures, Floor Plan and Prices) 9

Heartland have been in the business of travel trailers for more than 50 years, and boy does that experience show!

In this time, Heartland have built a reputation for producing reliable and easy-to-use camper trailers that are built to last.

With a range of travel trailers to choose from,  I was lucky enough to be treated to a weekend away in one of the all-new Heartland Pioneer 250BH, and let’s just say it did not disappoint!

  • Price: Starting at $30,839
  • Length:  29.83 ft / 9.1 m
  • Height : 11 ft / 3.35 m
  • Weight Rating:  6900 lbs / 3129.8 kgs
  • Sleeping Capacity: Sleeps up to 8
  • Number Of Queen Size Beds : 1
  • Number Of Double Size Beds: 2
  • Fresh Water Tank Capacity: 41 Gallons

  • Propane Unit: 2 x 20 lbs
  • Number Of Cooktop Burners: 3
  • Refrigerator Size: Mid-Size
  • RVInsider average reviews: 2.6

To be totally honest, I was shocked to see the low RVInsider average review score of 2.6. After spending the weekend away in it I would have assumed it would have scored much higher, but there it is.

This travel trailer has so many fantastic features packed into both the exterior and interior design. Innovative is an understatement!

The Best Travel Trailer Brands On the Market in 2022 (With Pictures, Floor Plan and Prices) 10

In terms of the exterior, first up we have the “MEGA Bright Pass-Thru Storage”. This is an unrivaled storage system with 52 cubic feet of storage at your fingertips paired with oversized access doors for ease of use, LED lights on either side, and internal finishing to help protect your cargo.

The inbuilt power stabilizing jacks do a great job of quickly leveling and stabilizing the whole travel trailer and are controlled by a single button push. There is also a handy outdoor cooking station with a full grill and space to hook up your TV and exterior speaker.

The Best Travel Trailer Brands On the Market in 2022 (With Pictures, Floor Plan and Prices) 11

The interior certainly is no slouch either. “H Blast AC” allows for unmatched cooling performance with up to double the amount of air conditioning ducts of rival models offering the most efficient air circulation possible. Heartland opted to go for no carpet interior, with ful linoleum on the main floor and slide outs to help with ease of cleaning.  The oversized panoramic Windows allow for almost floor to ceiling views and max ventilation.

Then we have the kitchen, and geez what a kitchen it is. An almost full size fridge is paired with a triple burner, a mid-sized oven, and a double basin sink!

In terms of build quality, some of the highlights are 5/8” Dyna Span floor decking, 80” interior roof height, 110 Volt 45 Amp power converter, aluminum front exterior metal and sides, fully walkable roof, an aerodynamic front profile, inbuilt water system winterization kit, the list goes on…

Airstream Travel Trailers

The Best Travel Trailer Brands On the Market in 2022 (With Pictures, Floor Plan and Prices) 14

Airstream travel trailers are probably the most iconic campers on the market, and definitely the most easily recognisable. The gorgeous aerodynamic aluminum exterior cladding instantly turns heads and is just so aesthetically pleasing . I personally find some strange satisfaction watching one cruise by, and I am sure I’m not the only one.

It’s not just the exteriors that scream luxury. The interior design of each and every Airstream that I have had the pleasure of setting foot in is just as impressive as the shell. Thoughtfully and carefully crafted to last a lifetime, with all the fittings you expect from a high end travel trailer and then some.

SInce 1931, Airstream has been producing some of the absolute best camper trailers on the market. They are not the most expensive options out there, but airstreams certainly do not come cheap.

The Best Travel Trailer Brands On the Market in 2022 (With Pictures, Floor Plan and Prices) 15

WIth 8 options in their current travel trailer line there is an option to suit any sized family,  but if you are asking for my favorite it’s hard to pass up the Airstream Flying Cloud. This is one of the highest rated travel trailers on RVinsider.com with an overall rating of 4.7 out of 5, so let’s jump in and see why everyone seems to love this unit!

There are more than 10 floor plans to choose from, but the one i got the chance to look at is the Flying Cloud 25RB

  • Price: Starting at $89,900
  • Length:  25 ft 11 in
  • Height : 9 ft 9 in
  • Weight Rating: 7,300 lbs
  • Number Of Double Size Beds: 0
  • Fresh Water Tank Capacity: 39 Gallons
  • Gray Water Tank Capacity: 31 Gallons
  • Black Water Tank Capacity: 34 Gallons
  • BTU per hour furnace: 25000
  • Propane Unit: 2 x 30 lbs
  • Oven: Convection Microwave Oven
  • Refrigerator Power Mode: Electric 12V
  • Refrigerator Size: 8 cu. ft.
  • RVInsider average reviews: 4.7

The Airstream Flying Cloud 25RB comes with a very generously sized rear bedroom space with a full sized queen bed, a nightstand, a large LED TV,  and a wardrobe. The memory foam mattress that comes with the camper is surprisingly comfortable, and to be honest I think it’s nicer than my mattress at home…

The 42″ x 97″ dinette/bed is just so well designed and also super comfy. During the day the area is a perfect work or dining area, and once the sun goes down it converts into a sleeping area for up to 4 adults, although it’s actually better suited to no more than 3 in my opinion.

The Best Travel Trailer Brands On the Market in 2022 (With Pictures, Floor Plan and Prices) 17

The kitchen area has everything you need to cater to a large family, with a decently sized fridge, a 3 burner cooktop, and a large convection microwave oven. There is also Quietstream Climate Control which does a fantastic job of both heating and cooling the cabin,  Ultraleather® Seating featured throughout the trailer , and just an overall smart use of the entire space! The whole interior is super tastefully finished, exactly what we have all come to expect from Airstream.

The Best Travel Trailer Brands On the Market in 2022 (With Pictures, Floor Plan and Prices) 18

I don’t think I need to say too much about the exterior, as I think the majority of us know (and love) every Airstream. What I will say is that the build quality is second to none and will last decades with the appropriate care and maintenance. Overall, one of my favorite travel trailers that I have ever stepped foot in. grab all the details on all of Airstream’s travel trailers right here –  https://www.airstream.com/travel-trailers/

Gulfstream Travel Trailers

The Best Travel Trailer Brands On the Market in 2022 (With Pictures, Floor Plan and Prices) 19

Are Gulfstream travel trailers as easy on the eye as our previously reviewed unit, the Airstream Flying Cloud? Well, no. But  Gulfstream travel trailers do have a long list of pros, starting at the price.  These budget-friendly campers offer a whole lot for less than half the asking price of an Airstream and do so without cutting corners or holding back on build quality.

Gulf Stream Coach, Inc. is based in Nappanee, Indiana with factories dotted all around the state. It’s actually the biggest privately held recreational vehicle manufacturer in the USA, with over 25 brands and more than 110 models in their extensive range.

I’m going to focus on one of their best-selling units, the Ameri-Lite. This is a great starter option for small to medium sized looking to buy their first travel trailer. Lightweight, easy to hook up and tow, and jam packed with great features. Let’s  take a deeper look a the Gulf Stream Ameri-Lite 259BH

Perfect for families of 3 to 6 people, the Ameri-lite is full of the standard features that we all hope to find in any quality travel trailer.

The Best Travel Trailer Brands On the Market in 2022 (With Pictures, Floor Plan and Prices) 21

There’s a 13,500 BTU roof air conditioner, 16,000 BTU furnace, multiple USB ports in handy easy-to-reach areas,  durable wipe-down vinyl flooring for quick cleaning, 2 rear stabilizing jacks, solid wood framed walls studs, fiberglass insulation, a crowned and seamless rubber roof which comes with a ridiculous 12-year warranty, and handcrafted hardwood cabinets with deep vinyl-lined drawers.

The Best Travel Trailer Brands On the Market in 2022 (With Pictures, Floor Plan and Prices) 22

The galley features all basic necessities plus some fun extras.  The flush mount fridge is decently sized with enough room to store at least a few days’ worth of fresh produce for a whole family. The 3 burner cooktop is well designed, and the addition of a microwave and a standard convection oven is always great to see. The power hood does a great job of sucking out any unwanted steam or smoke from cooking and the 6-gallon water heater ensures there’s always enough hot water on tap

The Best Travel Trailer Brands On the Market in 2022 (With Pictures, Floor Plan and Prices) 23

The bathroom has an actual tub in it!  Sure, it’s not the biggest tube we have ever seen, but it’s just so rare to see this in a camper and can be a godsend for those with a young family. Of course, all the other usual suspects are also found here – toilet, sink, and a powerful shower.

The exterior shell is well put together and designed to last. The materials used are top-notch and should last years and years with the right care.  Check out all the options available from Gulfstream right here –  https://www.gulfstreamcoach.com/products/light-weight

Grand Design Travel Trailers 3410

The Best Travel Trailer Brands On the Market in 2022 (With Pictures, Floor Plan and Prices) 24

Grand Design Recreational Vehicles are one of the newer kids on the block.  In 2012 the Grand Design team broke away from the leadership team of the largest travel trailer and fifth wheel manufacturer in the world to start their own venture.

This decision was made as they were finding it hard to stay in touch with customers, employees, and ultimately keep the quality of the final product to the very highest standard while being involved with such a large company.

Since opening their doors back in 2012 they have seen unparalleled years of growth, and have quickly become one of the most respected travel trailer manufacturers in North America.

Their best-selling travel trailer model right now is the 2022 Transcend XPLOR, and I was lucky enough to check out the 200MK model recently. To say I was impressed would be a slight understatement.

The Best Travel Trailer Brands On the Market in 2022 (With Pictures, Floor Plan and Prices) 26

  • Price: Starting at $34,535
  • Length:  24 ft 11 in
  • Height : 11 ft
  • Weight Rating:  7495 lbs
  • Sleeping Capacity: Sleeps up to 8
  • Number Of Queen Size Beds: 1
  • Number Of Double Size Beds: 0
  • Number Of Convertible / Sofa Beds: 2
  • Fresh Water Tank Capacity: 62 Gallons
  • Gray Water Tank Capacity: 39 Gallons
  • Black Water Tank Capacity: 39 Gallons
  • BTU per hour furnace: 32000
  • Refrigerator Size: Mid-sized
  • RVInsider average reviews: 3.7

The well-priced Grand Design Transcend Xplor travel trailer 200MK is up there with my favorite campers and trailers currently on the market.  Sure, it may not have the classy exterior of some of its higher-priced competitors, but that’s not to say this is a bad-looking trailer whatsoever.

The exterior shell is designed with functionality in mind and uses state-of-the-art build concepts to ensure long-lasting quality. Steel alloy frame construction is paired with the aircraft-grade aluminum cladding for a great balance of strength while staying as lightweight as possible. Grand designs use QuadSeal on the vast majority of their travel trailers, which provides four protective layers to line the perimeter of your trailer for full protection from water the weather has in store.

The Best Travel Trailer Brands On the Market in 2022 (With Pictures, Floor Plan and Prices) 27

Inside you find pretty much everything you could hope for from a travel trailer in this price range, plus a few great unexpected extras!  The galley offers a full 3 burner cooktop, convection oven, microwave oven, and a nicely sized 8 cu ft refrigerator. This setup makes cooking for a large family an absolute breeze.

The Best Travel Trailer Brands On the Market in 2022 (With Pictures, Floor Plan and Prices) 28

In terms of cabin space, that really depends on which floor plan you decide on, with over a dozen options available. The 200MK can sleep up to 8 people, but that would be a bit of a squeeze. There’s a queen bed in the main bedroom, with a few pull-out bunks for the kids. The bathroom is well designed with a full walk-in shower, with a big sink and toilet. There are a bunch of overhead compartments dotted throughout the design and a 43 Cu. Ft. pass-through storage located underneath the cabin flooring.  Check out all the Grand Design Travel Trailer options right here –  https://www.granddesignrv.com/

Oliver Travel Trailers

The Best Travel Trailer Brands On the Market in 2022 (With Pictures, Floor Plan and Prices) 29

Oliver travel trailers may not have the extensive range of other brands, and as they have been in business since 2008 they are one of the younger companies on today’s list.  With just 2 travel trailers to choose from you would be excused for thinking that this great little enterprise is not worth your time, but in my opinion, you would be 100% wrong.

Oliver travel trailers may have a starting price that is a little higher than some of the competition, but this price is more than justified when you take into account the build quality and features included.

Let’s take a look at the smaller of the two options, the Oliver Legacy Elite.

  • Price: Starting at $57,000
  • Length: 18 ft 5 in
  • Height : 6 ft 6 in
  • Weight Rating:  5,000 lbs.
  • Sleeping Capacity: Sleeps up to 3
  • Number Of Convertible / Sofa Beds:1
  • Fresh Water Tank Capacity: 32 Gallons
  • Gray Water Tank Capacity: 32 Gallons
  • Black Water Tank Capacity: 15 Gallons
  • BTU per hour furnace: 20000
  • Number Of Cooktop Burners: 2
  • Oven: Convection Microwave Oven
  • Refrigerator Size: 4.5-cubic-foot Norcold three-way refrigerator
  • Structure Warranty (Months): 60

As you can see from the above specs, this is one of the smaller travel trailers reviewed in this list. From what I can tell, there are 2 types of people that RV – those who prefer the “bigger is better” model and the rest who prescribe to the “cozy and small” philosophy. If you land in the second group then the Oliver Legacy Elite is hard to beat!

The Best Travel Trailer Brands On the Market in 2022 (With Pictures, Floor Plan and Prices) 30

The aesthetics are the first obvious point that sets this travel trailer apart from the opposition.  The bubble, retro styling of the Legacy Elite makes this one of the best-looking options available right now and gives Oliver units a unique feel.

In terms of construction, the mostly aluminum frame is covered by a custom-molded fiberglass shell complete with matching propane and spare tire cover. Not only does this look great, but it offers a stronger shell than others that can handle all weather conditions, even below freezing. That’s thanks to the well-insulated double shell and the fact that all water lines, appliances, and tanks are located within the lower shell.

When discussing the interior features, there is really nothing glaring that Oliver have left out here. To see all the standard features head to this link  https://olivertraveltrailers.com/travel-trailers/legacy-elite/standard-features/ , but here’s a quick rundown.

The Best Travel Trailer Brands On the Market in 2022 (With Pictures, Floor Plan and Prices) 33

There’s full surround over-head lighted storage compartments, an ez winterizing system, the Maxxfan deluxe remote control RV ventilator system, overhead led lights and led courtesy floor lights, a flush mount 2x lp burner stove , a Norcold 3 way refrigerator 4.7 cu. ft. that can run on lp or electricity, a stainless steel microwave, a domestic 311 toilet (low profile with porcelain bowl), decently sized shower, all the safety features we have come to expect, a 24” flat screen LCD tv.  The list really does go on and on! If you have some money to burn and are looking for a compact travel trailer that offers the best in build quality and overall features then it’s hard to beat the Oliver Legacy Elite! Bowlus Travel Trailers

The Best Travel Trailer Brands On the Market in 2022 (With Pictures, Floor Plan and Prices) 34

And now for something a little, um… different?

Bowlus travel trailers are the brainchild of Hawley Bowlus and first started production in 1934. Hawley Bowlus was a renowned designer, aerospace engineer, and the head designer and builder of the Spirit of St. Louis aircraft (the custom-built monoplane that was famously flown by Charles Lindbergh in 1927, on the first solo nonstop transatlantic flight from Long Island, New York, to Paris, France).

Bowlus campers are known for their absolute high-end, luxury designs and timeless aesthetics.

Bowlus aims to lead the market and have accomplished many important industry firsts within the last decade. These include being the first travel trailers with heated floors and life-work solutions that include the first charging stations/router/wifi amplifier for remote work solutions, the first lithium-powered travel trailer with sophisticated power management systems, and the first truly sustainable RV.

But this does not come cheap! Bowlus campers are some of the most expensive options out there, so let’s take a look at exactly why they cost as much as they do! I was invited to take a look at the Bowlus Terra Firma, their flagship model.  This is, without a shadow of a doubt, the most beautiful and outwardly impressive travel trailer I have ever stepped inside of!

  • Price: Starting at $265,000
  • Length:  27 ft 1 in
  • Height: 8 ft 6 in
  • Weight Rating:  4000 lbs
  • Bathroom: Full bathroom with shower (extends outside), toilet, and sink.
  • Sleeping Capacity: Sleeps up to 4
  • Fresh Water Tank Capacity: 19 Gallons
  • Gray Water Tank Capacity: 21 Gallons
  • Black Water Tank Capacity: 4.5 Gallons
  • Propane Unit: 2 x 17 lbs
  • Number Of Cook Top Burners: 2
  • RVInsider average reviews: 0 reviews

The Best Travel Trailer Brands On the Market in 2022 (With Pictures, Floor Plan and Prices) 35

Let’s just say it, the Bowlus Terra Firma is not for everyone. I love the thing and it’s not for me, and that’s not just to do with the price  (which, come on, is totally ridiculous. Over $100,000 more expensive than the closest competing model from Airstream. You can even get a Lambo or Ferrari for less than the asking price of this camper!).

The Best Travel Trailer Brands On the Market in 2022 (With Pictures, Floor Plan and Prices) 36

But, if this is the type of thing you are into and you have the money to burn, it does have a whole load of attractive features and design concepts.  Each and every Bowlus is handcrafted with the company taking input from the new owners to make sure they get the travel trailer perfectly tailored to their wants and needs .

The one feature that Bowlus can truly claim as their own is the lithium-iron batteries that provide 8.0-kWh of power. That’s enough juice to keep the water flowing and LED lights on for weeks, but if you are using the climate controls and running workstations then that time period will shrink to about 4 days. Still super impressive.

The Best Travel Trailer Brands On the Market in 2022 (With Pictures, Floor Plan and Prices) 37

I’m not going to say much about the interior and exterior design and build quality. As you would expect from a unit of this price, every facet is the unreserved, undivided, outright pure definition of top-notch brilliance.

But, should you buy a Bowlus Terra Firma?  Well, that is an answer that no one can answer other than you. But my honest opinion is that even though they are packed with outstanding features and almost perfect styling, they are just too overpriced to warrant a purchase.

Lance Travel Trailers

The Best Travel Trailer Brands On the Market in 2022 (With Pictures, Floor Plan and Prices) 38

Lance Campers have been supplying America (and the world) with some of the best travel trailers since 1965.  They have slowly but surely built a strong reputation for designing and constructing some of the longest-lasting units on the market, and  a quick google search will find endless glowing reviews about the whole range of campers offered.

In the last decade, Lance campers have won an amazing 8 quality circle awards from the DSI Award (Dealer Satisfaction Index), and just last year Consumers Digest awarded the entire Lance travel trailer line their highest ranking possible.

My local Lance dealer recently invited me around to check out the range. There is a travel trailer to suit any family requirement, each as impressive as the last. But, the pick of the bunch in my mind is the fantastic Lance 2445 travel trailer. Of course, they have many cheaper options available (Lance is actually one of the companies with the most attractive overall pricing), but if you are looking for a large camper trailer then check out this one!

The bathroom is outfitted to perfection, with every fitting you would expect from a hotel powder room and more! The shower is as big as I have seen in almost any camper, and there’s ducted heat, a medicine cabinet with a generously sized mirror, and a full-sized toilet and sink combo to round it all out.

The galley comes with everything you need to cater for a large family, with a flush mount 3 burner oven top, a convection oven, a microwave, a 7 cu. Ft. double door fridge, and an oversized sink.

The overall build quality is a factor that Lance Campers have always received praise for and it’s no different here!  Everything just seems so well put together, especially as Lance targets the lower price range. There’s the laminated fiberglass bonded exterior with azdel substrate, exterior LCD mounting puck which includes a removable LCD bracket, aluminum wheels with Goodyear radial tires and the radius cornered storage compartment doors to name just a few of the standout features.

So, if you have been hunting for a travel trailer that offers unrivaled value for money you can do a lot worse than a Lance Camper! Check out the entire range right here –  https://www.lancecamper.com/travel-trailers/

Forest River Travel Trailers

The Best Travel Trailer Brands On the Market in 2022 (With Pictures, Floor Plan and Prices) 43

Forest River has been around the traps since 1996 and with the recent introduction of the phenomenal No Boundaries travel trailer they have upped their game once again.

The company has manufacturing facilities throughout the Midwest and west coast, allowing for orders to be filled quickly without the quality of workmanship dipping at all. Each and every Forest River product is painstakingly built and undergoes deep, detailed inspection before being handed over to the customer. This pre-delivery inspection covers everything from electrical, plumbing, LP system, function, aesthetics, codes, rain bay, and other various tests.

One thing that really stands out is the Forest River Owners’ Group (FROG), which was formed in 2011 and has grown exponentially ever since. It now boasts over 150,000 members, and has a thriving forum for any and all discussion regarding Forest River products.

Let’s dive headfirst into the all-new Forest River No Boundaries and see what the fuss is about.  I was able to get my hands on an NB19.6 floor plan, but there are more than 12 other options to choose from depending on your needs and budget.

  • Price: Starting at $32,000
  • Length:  24.33 ft
  • Height:9.92 ft
  • Weight Rating:  3,206 lbs
  • Number Of Double Size Beds:
  • Gray Water Tank Capacity: 30 Gallons
  • Black Water Tank Capacity: 30 Gallons
  • Oven: Microwave Convection Oven

The No Boundaries is a unit that really does live up to its name. Packed to the brim with impressive features, priced to please, and top-class build quality that is lightweight and durable  – what else could you want or need from a travel trailer?

The Best Travel Trailer Brands On the Market in 2022 (With Pictures, Floor Plan and Prices) 44

The standard features that come with every No Boundaries include more than a handful of components that you might not expect to find in a travel trailer for this price. There’s enough storage room for a family of four, plus space for kayaks , bikes, surfboards, and fishing equipment. It seems like everywhere you look there’s more storage room!

The Best Travel Trailer Brands On the Market in 2022 (With Pictures, Floor Plan and Prices) 45

Then we have the roof-mounted solar panel, the complete LED lighting, the included bush (or outdoor) kitchen that has a great-sized flat-top grill, the inbuilt winterization package, plus much more!

The Best Travel Trailer Brands On the Market in 2022 (With Pictures, Floor Plan and Prices) 46

The kitchen employs the use of a 2 burner oven top, a convection microwave oven, and a full-sized fridge and sink combo. The fridge could be a little larger I guess, but it’s hard to knock them for such a small oversight.

This is the perfect Travel Trailer for those wanting a lightweight, capable, and long-lasting camper. It handles off-road situations surprisingly well,  thanks to the 4,400-pound torsion-axle independent suspension. I wouldn’t take it down a difficult 4WD path, but it is capable of handling a bit of rough treatment.

So, if its a rugged and ready travel trailer that you are dreaming of, then take a long hard look at the impressive Forest River No Boundaries Travel Trailer right now –  https://forestriverinc.com/rvs/travel-trailers/no-boundaries/NB19.6/4763

Well, there you have it. My comprehensive rundown of all the top camper trailer brands, and the best units each produces. Hopefully, by this point, you have a much clearer understanding of not only what is on the market right now, but also exactly what you are looking for in a travel trailer!

If you want to know my picks of the bunch then it is hard to pass up the Lance Camper range.  They offer a unique blend of value for money and great build quality, all backed by a pretty decent warranty.

Of course, if you have the spare cash laying around then check out all the units that Airstream has to offer.

the best travel trailers 2022

With so many brands, sizes, and amenities to choose from, it can be difficult to know which travel trailer is right for your next adventure in the great outdoors . Paige Bouma, executive vice president of sales and operations of Trader Interactive, knows a thing or two about RV travel. She has been taking RV vacations with her family for years, often traveling for 30 weekends a year. According to Bouma, towable RVs (like travel trailers) are great for camping , and there are a number of choices to consider. "Families looking to experience the great outdoors have several choices when it comes to trailers they can tow behind their car, SUV, or pickup," she said. "The traditional travel trailer comes in a variety of lengths and weights, and provides a multitude of amenities and a sleeping capacity for any size family to go camping."

With this in mind, we've rounded up 13 of the best travel trailers so you can plan your next road trip . Whether you're a first-timer looking for tips to get started or a frequent traveler trying to decide on your next RV rental , this list includes fan favorites like Airstream, Winnebago, and Jayco travel trailers, ranging from luxury vehicles to small and lightweight campers.

As a bonus, the features are packaged in a small camper footprint. In most cases, you won’t need to purchase a tow vehicle for these trailers. To find out how much weight your car can pull, open your vehicle’s manual. Look for the maximum trailer towing capacity and you’ll find the answer.

Why lightweight travel trailers are in demand

If you’re thinking about buying one of these lightweight travel trailers, you’re in good company. Demand for big and small RV models is soaring.

For example, according to the latest issue of RV RoadSigns , the quarterly sales forecast published by the RV Industry Association (RVIA), RV manufacturers are still scrambling to meet consumer demand that started in 2020. This year, more than 600,000 new RVs will be sold. These figures are all-time high that will exceed the record-breaking RV sales of 2021.

“The remarkable production from the RV manufacturers and suppliers is nothing like we have ever seen before, and our new forecast shows the record-breaking streak will continue,” said RVIA President and CEO Craig Kirby.

Editor’s note: RV manufacturer materials costs are constantly increasing. The current base costs for the small, light travel trailers on our list may have changed since the time of this writing (Q4 2021).

The Gold Standard: How Do You Choose the Best Travel Trailer Brands of 2023?

What distinguishes the elite from the average in the world of travel trailers? After analyzing feedback from RV enthusiasts and combing through industry reviews, we have identified three things to keep in mind as you shop for your ultimate travel trailer brand.

1. Road-Tested Reliability

When it comes to RVs, it’s not a question of if you’ll encounter issues, but when. With that in mind, the reliability of a travel trailer should be your most critical consideration. The most trusted travel trailer brands inspire confidence based on sterling reviews. That feedback isn’t just from RV industry cheerleaders, but from the real experts – everyday RV owners like you and me.

Don’t fall for the shiny objects shown in walk-through YouTube reviews. Instead, dig deeper and seek out firsthand experiences from actual owners. Start with RV communities such as the iRV2 Discussion Forums . This is one of many excellent ways to get unbiased ratings and insights from owners of the brands you are curious about. Start engaging in discussions about the real-world performance and reliability of the camper you’re interested in.

2. Value for Your Money

Price matters, but not always in the way you might think. While we all love a bargain, when it comes to travel trailers that a lower sticker price can often be a sign of mass production that leads to compromised quality. As with any purchase, affordability is important, but it shouldn’t come at the cost of quality. The best travel trailer brands offer the highest value for the price point with above-average durability, thoughtful design, and overall quality.

3. Customer-First Service

The best travel trailers in the world can’t make up for a poor customer service experience. When investing in a travel trailer, you’re not just buying an RV. You are entering into a relationship. The industry’s top-tier travel trailer brands on our list understand this and prioritize customer satisfaction. From the initial contact with the manufacturer to after-sales support from the dealer and any warranty work in the future, they make it a prioirty to keep customers happy.

Not all travel trailer brands or their affiliated dealers shine in this area. Explore Google reviews about your local RV dealers that carry the brand you are considering. An overwhelming amount of negative customer feedback may be a telltale sign to look elsewhere.

Choosing the best RV trailer brands isn’t easy. There are hundreds of trailer brands and thousands of models. I selected these brands and models based on hundreds of RV user reviews. #2. grand design rv imagine.

Grand Design RV is another one of the best travel trailer brands. They have a loyal and raving fan base that considers their travel trailers some better overall brands in the industry.

Happy Grand Design Travel Trailer owners (Image: @AKA…Neil, iRV2 Forums member)

I have seen many owner reviews of Grand Design campers who rave about the quality of these units and the outstanding customer service. For me, a list of the best travel trailer brands would not be complete without Grand Design.

The company is located in Middlebury, IN. All their towables and fifth wheels come with a 3-year limited structural warranty. Imagine XLS is one of my favorites due to its excellent styling, features, and amenities. Grand Design has only been around since 2001 and today it operates as an independent business within Winnebago Industries. This line of campers is definitely on our short list of the best travel trailer brands in 2023.

Why I Recommend the Grand Design Imagine

The Imagine travel trailer line is my preferred bumper-pull from this RV manufacturer. There are several reasons I like the Imagine trailer. First off, it comes in 21 different floor plans. Even the smallest model comes with a queen-sized bed. There is no way I would want a travel trailer with anything smaller than a queen bed.

Grand Design Imagine Specifications

11 different floor plans in 3 lines, length: from 19 ft 11-inches to 36-feet 11-inches, one-piece roof membrane with 12-year warranty, arctic 4-seasons package, aluminum framed fully laminated sidewalls, uvw: 3,560 lbs to 8,394 lbs, gel-coated fiberglass exterior, double-insulated floor, roof, and front cap, heated and enclosed dump valves, factory installed rv solar power system.

The Imagine is also loaded with a ton of standard features. Here are just a few of the ones that stand out for me and for what I’m looking for:

Solid hardwood drawer fronts

Upgraded residential furniture, large double door refrigerator, large panoramic windows, residential quality countertops, 3-burner range with oven.

The Oliver brand makes high-quality luxury fiberglass trailers in their Tennessee manufacturing facility. The company, which was started by twin brothers Jim and John Oliver, was formed in 2008.

It’s like getting a tailor-made suit, but this one’s an RV made to fit your camping style and needs.

The Oliver Legacy Elite 2

Inside the Legacy Elite 2 (Image: Oliver Travel Trailers)

The Oliver Legacy Elite 2 pictured above is my favorite model and probably one of their top-rated all-fiberglass campers. I like the Elite 2 for several reasons. I like that it has a dry weight of just 4,600 pounds. It can be towed with a good truck or full-size SUV. Keep in mind that 4,600 pounds is just the dry weight. For towing, you need to consider cargo weight too.

The Legacy Elite 2 comes in two-floor plans. One with twin beds and the with a dinette to 75″ x 79″ bed conversion. This model is loaded with standard features.

Oliver Legacy Elite 2 Specifications

Full custom molded interior and exterior insulated shells, plumbing, holding tanks, and drain pipes are enclosed between shells with heat to diminish the risk of freezing, quad shocks on dual dexter leaf spring axles, “nev-r-adjust” electric brakes for exceptional control and braking, molded vanity, norcold 3-way refrigerator 4.5 cubic ft. Another of our selected best travel trailers is Winnebago. With a history spanning over 50 years, Winnebago is a well-known and respected brand in the RV industry. Headquartered in Forest River, Iowa, the company builds a huge selection of RVs, including high-quality motorhomes, campers, fifth wheels, and toy haulers.

Winnebago Micro Minnie (Image: Winnebago)

Winnebago makes five popular travel trailer models as of 2023. One of the best travel trailer brands for new RVers and experienced ones alike is the Micro Minnie (which replaced the older Minnie Drop model that made our former list of the best travel trailers.

What I Like About the Micro Minnie

When it comes to striking a balance between compactness and living comfort, the Micro Minnie travel trailers hit the nail right on the head. These little marvels of RV engineering manage to pack a ton of amenities into a small, easy-to-tow package, proving that you don’t have to go big to enjoy the perks of home on the road.

Despite their size, Micro Minnies don’t skimp on the essentials. Step inside to enjoy a fully-equipped kitchen that comes with a double-door refrigerator, a three-burner stove, and even a microwave. So, whether you’re warming up last night’s leftovers or cooking a full-course meal, you’ve got everything you need right there.

A key aspect of Micro Minnies’ appeal is their towability. With a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 5,500 to 6,000 pounds, depending on the model, they can be comfortably towed by a variety of vehicles. Mid-size SUVs, pickup trucks, and some of the beefier crossovers make suitable companions for these compact travel trailers.

These compact and retro lightweight travel trailers are winning the hearts of people who want a small trailer that can be towed by a typical passenger car.

Happier Camper trailers are incredibly versatile. Their “Adaptiv” furniture anf cabinetry are made as modular cubes. One thing to keep in mind with the Happier Camper is that it does not have a typical toilet setup. The Happier Camper has a “ Dry Flush” toilet for RVs . That is the only drawback I see to this camper trailer. Remember, it is small, so don’t expect much room, but that is how it’s been designed. It’s modern, and makes exceptional use of the small interior.

#6. starcraft rv autumn ridge.

Another of our picks with a long history in the RV industry, Starcraft, started making metal farm equipment in 1903. In 1968 they began manufacturing campers. Today, what sets Starcraft apart from other small, affordable trailers is its smart construction. Made with TuffShell, Starcraft’s unique fiberglass wall construction, all Starcraft trailers give superior durability while remaining lightweight. This combination not only extends the lifespan of the RV but also makes towing a breeze, whether you tow with a full-size pickup or a mid-size SUV.

After dinner, you can relax in the comfortable seating area, perhaps catch a show on the LED TV.

What Makes The Autumn Ridge a Best Travel Trailer?

Prior to the Autumn Ridge, the 2019 Starcraft Mossy Oak travel trailer was my preferred choice. This was a spacious camper available in 11-floor plans, including several travel trailer models with bunk beds . The Mossy Oak came in lengths from 23’4″ to 36’5″, making it the best predecessor of the Starcraft Autumn Ridge. This new model has many choices for RV buyers, with features that will make you want to own one too.

A division of Forest River, Shasta travel trailers have been a reliable companion for road travelers since 1941. If you’ve been camping a long time, the toaster-like look of the original Shaster brings back memories. What I love about Shasta trailers is they’re a great buy for the money.

Shasta trailers offer a wide range of towing capacities. Because these campers are crafted with a sturdy, lightweight aluminum exterior, they are durable but don’t add extra weight. Whether you already own a large truck for towing, or a family SUV, these campers are a great choice for anyone just starting their RV journey. The 18FQ is very well laid out. Stepping inside, you can’t help but appreciate the attention to detail. Kitchens come equipped with a three-burner cooktop, a generous refrigerator, and a microwave oven, giving you all the conveniences of a home kitchen on the road. The 15 Best Travel Trailers for 2024

Traveling doesn’t mean having to step foot in a frenzied airport. In fact, there’s never been a better time to go camping. With the right travel trailer, you can easily leave the city behind without having to deal with anyone other than your nearest and dearest. Today’s featured-packed caravans are nothing like those you rode in as a kid, either. Not only do they look good, but they’re packed with enough luxury features that you’ll feel right at home, no matter where you are.

We’re also at the point where there’s a trailer for practically every kind of camper, regardless of what vehicle they drive. If you’re the kind of person who likes the classics, there are multiple aluminum-sided Airstream and Bowlus models to choose from. Want to bring as much of your home on the road with you? How about Living Vehicle or Land Ark’s mammoth condos on wheels? There are also caravans you can take off-road with your 4×4 and ultra-light and compact models you can tow with an EV. Some can even be turned into a mobile office if you want to mix work and play. Below are 15 travel trailers that will allow you to take to the road in just about any way you can imagine.

Our Best Travel Trailer Picks

Best overall: living vehicle hd24, best for luxury lovers: bowlus endless highways performance edition, best for off-road enthusiasts: mammoth overland extinction level event.

A rear 3/4 view of the Living Vehicle HD24

If you want a better understanding of how far travel trailers have come over the decades, just look at the Living Vehicle lineup. The Santa Barbara-based company’s boxy trailers are basically mini apartments you can take with you on the road. Our favorite might be the new HD24, which is far from the company’s biggest offering, but comes with all the amenities you could need at the campground—and then some.

The all-electric model, which starts at $299,995, may measure only 24 feet, but its minimalist interior still has more than enough for a bedroom, kitchen, entertainment area, and a bathroom with a dedicated shower. One particularly clutch feature is a five-by-eight-foot multi-purpose space that can be used as an office, guest room, or laundry room. If that wasn’t enough, the top-of-the-line Pro variant has a solar-assisted power system that can keep the trailer running for up to a month off the grid.

The Living Vehicle HD24 entertainment area

Special Features:   —Trailer can be configured to include a laundry room, office, or guest room. —Interior has a clean minimalist look and comes packed with premium amenities. —Range-topping Pro version’s power system produces enough energy for 30 days of off-the-grid living,

The Bowlus Endless Highways Performance Edition from the side

It may not be the most famous shiny caravan maker—that would be Airstream—but Bowlus is the company that gave us the first riveted travel trailer. The company, which was revived in 2014, knows not to mess with a good thing, so its well-regarded trailers—like our favorite, the  Endless Highways Performance Edition —look just like those it produced in the 1930s, only bigger and with better materials (think: alclad aluminum for the exterior and birchwood for the interior).

Despite its classic look, the $225,000 trailer has all the conveniences you expect in 2022, including heat and air-conditioning systems, a WiFi modem and plenty of outlets for charging all your smart devices. Best of all, though, might be a lithium iron phosphate that gives you the ability to live off the grid for two peaceful weeks. If you’re an animal lover, there’s also the  Terra Firma , which features a bunch of Fido-friendly features like a built-in food bowl, pet bed and remote temperature control system.

Inside the Bowlus Volterra

Special Features:  —Thee’s a double-sided indoor galley and an outdoor cooking area with electric and propane outlets. —The hotel-style shower has teak flooring and seating. —Lithium iron phosphate power system can keep the entire trailer running for up to two weeks.

A front 3/4 view of the Mammoth Overland Extinction Level Event

Mammoth Overland’s latest model is a burly off-road trailer designed to withstand anything it encounters in nature. The appropriately named Extinction Level Event (ELE) rides on a set of chunky all-terrain tires and has an angular aluminum body reinforced with steel armor and skid plates. If that doesn’t sound like enough, you can upgrade to Level 3 bullet-proof armor. There’s also a built-in bear spray system too, for added security. The ELE, which starts at $67,000, is pretty compact since it’s a tear-drop trailer, but it can comfortably sleep two and has an integrated workstation inside its cabin. There’s also a swing-out kitchenette in the back for cooking.

The Mammoth Overland Extinction Level Event's swing-out kitchenette

Special Features:   —Comes with a built-in bear spray system and is available with bullet-proof armor. —Despite its compact size, the interior cabin still has room for a built-in workstation. —The swing-out kitchenette isn’t big, but has everything you need to cook a delicious meal.

Best Overall: Airstream Globetrotter

Airstream Globetrotter

One brand leaps to mind when most of us think about travel trailers—Airstream. Its iconic aluminum-sided caravans have been instrumental in popularizing road trips and  camping  in the US for decades. One need only look at the company’s  Globetrotter  model to see why: In addition to looking beautiful, the silver-covered caravan is packed with creature comforts to keep you traveling comfortably. It’s not the brand’s largest model—that would be the flagship  Classic —but it’s available with one of six different floor plans, each of which has room for a spacious entertainment area (that can sleep up to four adults).

Inside you’ll find a full-featured kitchen, half-bathroom, shower and sizable bedroom with either a queen-sized bed or two twins. As you would expect from Airstream, the amenities are top-rate, too, like Franke faucets in the kitchen and bathroom, stainless steel appliances, Quietstream climate control system and multiple LG LED TVs. The Globetrotter starts at $120,000. If it doesn’t fit the bill, the brand has plenty of other models to choose from, including collaboration editions like the  extra-homey Pottery Barn Edition  or their  ultra-rare Supreme edition .

Airstream Globetrotter

Special Features: —There are different floor plans to choose from, each of which features a full kitchen, half bathroom and dedicated shower. —The Quietstream climate control system barely makes a peep, even when the heater or A/C is running. —A built-in canopy provides shade when you want to spend time outside.

The W2 Romotow T8

Good things come to those who wait. More than a decade after it was first announced, the Romotow T8 is finally available to order. The 30.5-foot caravan, which was designed by New Zealand-based architecture and design firm W2, has two main components—a fixed chassis and a smaller living space that fits just inside of it. When the $268,500 trailer is parked, the cabin slides out at the touch of a button and can be rotated 90 degrees like a swiveling USB stick. When rotated like this, the hydraulic-powered chassis can then be used as a patio. While this unique design may be the vehicle’s main selling point, its interior cabin comes with all the features you need and has enough room for six adults.

Inside the W2 Romotow T8

Special Features:   —Unique rotating design is unlike anything else currently on the trailer market. —The living area is large enough to sleep up to six adults. — Hydraulic patio comes with an integrated deck set.

Escapod Topo2

The  Escapod Topo2  is a trailer for anyone looking to take their camping trip off road with minimal fuss. The brand’s update of the classic teardrop trailer is an off-road-friendly model without any of the bulk. Unlike most of the trailers on this list, Escapod’s bedroom and kitchen area are separated from one another. The dedicated sleeping area has room for a queen-size mattress and is equipped with a stargazer window so you can really take in the peace and quiet of the great outdoors. The galley, meanwhile, is only accessible from outside the $39,500 trailer, but has ample counter space for meal prep and cooking. Both sections get their power from a VPR 4EVER lithium ion battery with some solar panels to help keep things running smoothly and efficiently.

Escapod Topo2

Special Features: —Exterior is made from a single-piece of composite fiberglass that is rugged and weather-resistant. —Laser-cut tube steel frame should last for years. —Bedroom’s stargazer window offers up a beautiful view of your surroundings.

The Retreat Caravan and OzXcorp's ERV Electric Camper

It was only a matter of time until the  electric revolution  made its way to the world of trailers and campers.  Retreat Caravan and OzXcorp’s ERV  is a rugged trailer that also happens to run entirely on battery power. Roof-mounted solar panels provide juice for a 14.3-kWh lithium battery that keeps the trailer’s many appliances running. And while the trailer is perfectly equipped for some off-road fun, thanks to a specially tuned suspension and all-terrain tires, it also packs all of the comforts of a luxe hotel room inside, including a bathroom, spacious seating area and master bedroom suite with a king-sized bed and closets. But the true highlight may be the $75,000 caravan’s full-size kitchen, which features an induction cooktop, fridge and washing machine. There’s also a Weber electric barbecue and slow cooker for making your meals outdoors.

The interior of the ERV electric cabin

Special Features: —Solar panels and 14.3-kWh battery power the trailer and let you go off grid. —A specially tuned suspension and large all-terrain tires let you go off-road. —The primary bedroom has enough room for a king-size bed and its own closets.

Eriba Touring 820

Are you looking for an aluminum-sided trailer that looks like more than just another Airstream or Bowlus’s rip-off? If so, the  Eriba Touring 820  might fit the bill. The company’s top-of-the-line caravan updates the classic silver bullet look with a retro-futuristic shape and details. Even more impressive, though, is the 27-foot-trailer’s interior. The company has packed it full of luxury amenities like a sizable, leather-covered lounge area (that can be converted into a bed), customizable mood lighting and a surprisingly fashionable bathroom. The true highlight, though, is a bedroom with a large panoramic window that offers up a gorgeous views of your surroundings. That’s good, too, since you might not actually want to leave the $88,500 trailer.

Eriba Touring 820

Special Features: —The kitchen has a mini wine cellar for keeping your best bottles at the ready. —The leather-upholstered entertainment area can be converted into an additional sleeping area at night. —Adjustable mood lighting will help you feel at home no matter where you are.

The Land Ark Drake

Almost more of a portable house than a trailer, the  Land Ark Drake  basically lets you take all the comforts of home on the road. The gigantic, yet stylish, two-level, 357-square-feet trailer can comfortably sleep seven adults. Stark and modern on the outside, the trailer features an equally clean white-washed pine and black metal decorated interior. Across its two floors, it has room for a full-sized kitchen, living room and bathroom (which includes a bathtub), along with two loft bedrooms and an office which can also be converted to a sleeping area. Its $139,000 starting price may sound a lot for a trailer, but for a two-story house on wheels it’s not that bad.

Inside the The Land Ark Drake

Special Features: —The two-level design means you have 357-square-feet of space. —Downstairs bathroom includes a tub for when you need to take a relaxing soak. —It has a primary bedroom and two loft-style sleeping areas.

A front 3/4 view of the Pebble Flow

There are plenty of EV-friendly travel trailers on the market at this point, but none are nicer to an electric powertrain than the Pebble Flow, which starts at $109,000. The futuristic vehicle is available with an optional propulsion that includes two electric motors—one situated on each wheel—to help make sure its 6,200-pound weight isn’t eating up all your battery-powered vehicle’s range. That’s far from the Flow’s only forward-thinking feature though. The trailer also comes with an “Instacamp” system that can be used to park the vehicle and set up camp (which includes leveling out the vehicle, deploying its staircase, and turning on the lights). The unique feature can also be triggered remotely via Pebble’s smartphone app.

Inside the Pebble Flow

Special Features:   —An optional propulsion system means it can even be towed by EVs. —Unique “Instacamp” system allows you to park the vehicle remotely via the company’s smartphone app. — Solar-assisted battery pack produces enough power for a week of off-the-grid living.

Colorado Teardrops Boulder travel trailer

There are EV-friendly trailers and then there’s  Colorado Teardrops’s Boulder . Not only is the company’s latest designed to be towed by a battery-powered SUV or truck, it can also charge your EV’s battery. That ability comes courtesy a 75-kWh lithium-ion battery pack with a built-in DC fast charger that will give you some much needed peace of mind out on the open road. At the very least, it gives you the freedom to come up with a route centered around sights instead of charging stations. Aside from this very vital feature, the compact caravan has everything two adults and two children need to live off the grid for a for a few days, including a comfortable queen-sized mattress, two bunk beds (for the kids), an enclosed kitchenette and an optional climate control system. The $55,000 trailer also comes in a variety of two-tone color schemes that all look pretty sharp.

Colorado Teardrops Boulder travel trailer

Special Features: —Doesn’t just ease the burden on your EV’s battery; it can charge it, too. —A unique bunk-bed design creates room for four people to sleep (two adults and two children). —The enclosed kitchenette has plenty of counter space.

Hunter Nature Raptor XC

A big trailer can be a godsend on the campground, especially if you’re traveling with family or friends. The problem, of course, is getting the hulking vehicle there. No matter how experienced the driver, maneuvering a large caravan can be very tricky. Luckily there are trailers like  Hunter Nature’s Raptor XC . The brand’s angular model looks compact but features a pull-out section that just about doubles the size of its interior. When it’s fully extended you’ll have more than enough room for a dedicated living area, kitchen and bedroom. This will come in handy if there’s more than two in your traveling party, too. That’s because the $44,000 trailer’s entertainment area can easily be converted into an additional sleeping area at night.

The Hunter Nature Raptor XC's main living area and slide-out bedroom

Special Features: —An expanding segment turns this trailer into a multi-room cabin. —The bedroom has a large skylight so you can see the stars at night. —A spacious lounge can be converted into an additional sleeping area if you need more room.

Best for Design Obsessives: X-Cabin300

The X-Cabin300 travel trailer

Silver trailers don’t all need to be bullet-shaped as nice as the classic Airstream may look. Just take a gander at the X-Cabin300. The all-aluminum vehicle has a boxy shape that looks both classic and modern. The Japanese-made caravan is compact, but comes with four different interior layouts designed to meet your varied needs (it can even be used as a food truck). The $50,000 trailer is smaller than most—it measures just seven feet tall, seven feet wide, and 15 feet long—and only tips the scales at 1,650 pounds, which means a compact SUV can even tow it.

X-Cabin300 travel trailer with a canopy attached

Special Features:   —A refreshing spin on the classic all-aluminum travel trailer. —Available with four different interior layouts. —Small and light enough to be towed by a compact SUV.

The exterior of the Taxa Mantis

It can be hard to find a trailer that fits everyone’s needs, but the  Taxa Mantis  comes close. Its no-nonsense design means it fits with nearly anyone’s style. Thanks to a pop-up roof section, ingenious use of space and plenty of storage compartments, the Mantis has all the room you and your friends and family need to camp in comfort, which can be crucial on longer trips. It’s also got all the necessary features, including a bathroom with a built-in shower, water heater, kitchenette and 8,000 BTU air conditioner. The trailer, which starts at $46,000, is ideal for off-roading, but there’s a  special Overland edition  if you want something even more rugged.

Inside the Taxa Outdoor Mantis 5.1 Overland

Special Features: —A pop-up roof means you don’t have to sleep in the kitchen if you don’t want to. —There’s a built-in water heater and climate control system with a 8,000 BTU air conditioner. —It comes with a built-in canopy for outdoor hangouts.

The exterior of the Happier Camper HC1

Imagine if you didn’t need a truck or SUV to tow your trailer. You don’t if the caravan in question is Happier Camper’s compact  HC1 . The Los Angeles-based outfit’s smallest model is as light as they come, with a dry weight of just 1,100 pounds, meaning it can be towed by practically any car, even a modern-day Mini Cooper. It features a semi-modular interior designed by Adaptiv that can be customized to fit your camping style—components snap in like Legos—with either a full kitchen or enough sleeping room for up to five people. You can even add solar panels if you want to go off the grid. The $34,450 trailer’s old-school design is also sure to stand out on practically any campground. Even better, no pickups needed.

Inside the Happier Camper HC1

Special Features: —At only 1,100 pounds, it can be towed by just about any car. —The semi-modular floor plan allows you to arrange the interior to accommodate your camping style. —The larger rear hatch opens up space when you are entertaining.

Considering aesthetics, the design is top-notch. It features fine woodworking throughout the exterior kitchen galley and the interior storage cubbies around the queen-size bed. This is a great choice for single travelers or couples.

Why You Can Trust GearJunkie

We get that people want the best value on gear before spending their hard-earned money. Our expert team carefully selects the products we cover and vigorously researches (and tests) our top choices. Bottom line: The GearJunkie staff is dedicated to exhaustive analysis and helping our readers make informed choices.

Buyer’s Guide: How to Choose a Camper Trailer

The dry weight of the camper trailers listed in our guide ranges from 1,458 to 6,122 pounds. That weight typically excludes water, gas, batteries, or additional accessories like rooftop tents and racks. Pay attention to the dry weight of the camper so you can determine if the build is within the payload of your vehicle.

The gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) is the maximum total weight the trailer can safely weigh. The GVWR includes the dry weight, also known as the curb weight, plus the weight of people, accessories, supplies, and all your outdoor gear.

The GVWR of these trailer picks ranges from 2,200 to 10,000 pounds. You’ll need the GVWR so that you can calculate how much equipment you can safely haul in the trailer on the road, as well as how many people can sleep inside.

Clearance & Tires

If you plan on driving through rugged terrain that would require 4WD, you should invest in a trailer with generous ground clearance and off-road tires , and consider an articulating hitch to prevent toppling over on uneven terrain. Sturdier tires can also provide better traction on slick roads with snow or rain.

The ground clearance of the off-road models on our list range from 1.5 to 1.9 feet on the Timberleaf Classic Teardrop Trailer , Vorsheer XOC Extreme Overland Camper , Off Grid Trailers Expedition 2.0 , and Taxa Outdoors TigerMoth Overland .

When we take a close look at tires, the TigerMoth Overland is outfitted with the 225/75R16 ( Cooper Tires Discoverer AT3 LT ), offering a tread guard against rocks and gravel, extreme durability, and solid grip on wet roads or trails.

By comparison, the Airstream Flying Cloud 23FB has Goodyear Endurance ST225/75R15 Tires, which are great for towing stability and a high load capacity but are not ideal for rough terrain.

Sleep Space

At a minimum, our favorite compact travel trailers offer space for two people to sleep. A portion of these designs include cabins with a nonconvertible queen-size bed. Other trailer designs have options for a couch-to-bed conversion, like the TigerMoth Overland or Off Grid Trailers Expedition 2.0 , or a structure that supports a rooftop tent.

The larger travel trailers on our list feature a range of comfortable overnight options. The designs range from daytime couches and fold-down Murphy beds to bunk beds to dinettes that transform into a bed. If you’re a taller or wider person, pay attention to the specific bed size.

For instance, the Winnebago Micro Minnie 2306BHS has a full queen-size mattress, whereas some trailers will have a narrower queen-size mattress. The Winnebago Micro Minnie 2306BHS also has a bunk bed that can fold up, so more space is available for storage when the bed isn’t needed.

Also, not all mattresses are created equal. The pad in the TigerMoth Overland is firm with no cushion or give. However, the Off Grid Trailers Expedition 2.0 features a high-density memory foam mattress, and the Airstream Flying Cloud 23FB has a pillow-top memory foam mattress.

Taxa Outdoors TigerMoth Camper Trailer - bed size

A handful of the tidiest travel trailers have indoor space that’s solely dedicated to a queen-size bed and cubbies. Other tight trailers have beds that convert into a daytime couch or even have a table that can be easily installed. We like that even when the couch is pulled down into a bed in the TigerMoth Overland , there’s still a space to pull our shoes on and off.

Many trailers include an awning, which becomes a gem when you consider how much more space everyone will have to lounge out of the sun and rain at camp. Larger travel trailers typically have indoor sofas and dining tables that often convert into a bed.

Pricier, larger travel trailers have indoor kitchens with a range of features. Inside, you’ll often find a microwave, refrigerator, freezer, oven, sink, two- or three-burner stove, cabinets, countertop space, and dining table.

More compact, less expensive travel trailers have outdoor kitchens, and there’s a variety of unique designs. A galley organizes the kitchen area on the back of the rig, like on the Timberleaf Classic Off-Road Teardrop Trailer .

Other designs have pull-out drawers or fold-down units with the pantry, stove, sink, or countertop like the Off Grid Trailers Expedition 2.0 or the Taxa Outdoors TigerMoth Camper Trailer .

Off Grid Trailers Expedition 2.0 - kitchen

The spacious travel trailers on our list have indoor bathrooms with a toilet and standup shower. Tinier travel trailers don’t have an indoor bathroom, but a handful have an outdoor shower head with warm water hookups like the Off Grid Trailers Expedition 2.0 and Vorsheer XOC Extreme Overland Camper .

If your camper trailer doesn’t have an indoor bathroom and you’re posted up in a remote place, be sure to research that location’s human waste and Leave No Trace requirements — whether that means digging a cathole or using a WAG bag.

Interior Storage

Interior storage space is great for organizing apparel, cosmetics, electronics, and other comforts. Inside, travel trailers often feature storage space like shelves and cubbies, but not all offer a latch system to hold items in place while driving around.

There can also be storage space beneath the mattress. The Taxa Outdoors TigerMoth Camper Trailer had an aluminum interior frame, which extended onto the doors, with numerous holes to clip carabiners, hang dish towels, or slide in hangers to dry gear like our dense wetsuits .

Larger travel trailers usually have ample storage space, including cubbies beneath sofas, cabinets in the bathroom and kitchen, and even hanging closets.

Exterior Storage

Outside, tidy travel trailers can also have a toolbox, tongue box, or racks for storing gear and equipment. Large travel trailers also often have storage compartments facing outward, which sometimes include pass-through storage space.

Doors & Windows

We really appreciate it when the doors and windows are built to last in a travel trailer. One of the most unique door configurations is on the Taxa Outdoors TigerMoth Camper Trailer . There’s a back door that swings open and a second door that opens upward like the gullwing doors on the DMC DeLorean in “Back to the Future.” Nearly the entire wall serves as a sturdy canopy.

Windows are great for allowing ample light and can help a space feel bigger, but shades are equally important for privacy and to block out the light of the full moon or campground lamp. Slide-down shades can black out the inside of the trailer, and bug screens can enable airflow regardless of bug activity. It’s also nice to have windows that can be locked when they’re cracked.

Taxa Outdoors TigerMoth Camper Trailer - doors

Electric, Solar, Gas, and Water

You’ll need to closely consider how much energy and resources you’ll need between trips to a gas station, store, or an overnight stay with shore power.

Even if you don’t plan to charge your laptop or watch television — an option in larger travel trailers — it’s nice to have battery power. The battery can run indoor and outdoor LED lights around the kitchen and doors, as well as the roof exhaust fan — and it can charge up phones. Many travel trailers feature a prewired solar inlet to get an energy boost off solar panels, too.

Each trailer will have a specific capacity for gas and water carry. For instance, the Off Grid Trailers Expedition 2.0 water tank boasts a 31-gallon capacity. The Vorsheer XOC Extreme Overland Camper has upgrade options for a 30-gallon water tank and bonus storage that holds two extra 5-gallon jerry cans. The Taxa Outdoors TigerMoth Camper Trailer holds one 5-gallon jerry can.

In contrast, larger travel trailers have a greater water capacity, in great part to manage the bathroom. The Black Series HQ19 comes with a 50-gallon water tank for supply, a 26-gallon gray water tank for collection (for all used water except from the toilet), and a 26-gallon black water tank for all toilet waste.

Often trailers include an indoor smoke detector, fire extinguisher, and carbon monoxide detector.

How much weight can you tow?

Check your vehicle’s door jamb or owner’s manual for the payload, max towing, and tongue weight rating. Be sure not to exceed those caps with what’s hauled in the trailer and in the vehicle.

What camper trailer features allow off-road capability?

If you intend to off-road with your trailer, be sure to pick one with durable, all-terrain tires that can handle paved, gravel, dirt, and rocky surfaces. Look for a steel frame, ample clearance, axleless suspension, burly fenders, and articulating hitch.

How long do camper trailers last?

Most camper trailers will last between 10 and 15 years. However, numerous factors determine the lifespan of a camper trailer, and the most unpredictable is the human element. Outside elements that affect the lifespan of a camper trailer include the original design, build quality, usage, and storage when not traveling.

Assuming it is a quality-built trailer, is stored properly when not in service, and received regular maintenance, it’s normal to see camper trailers in use after 15 years from when it was bought brand new.

There’s never been a better time to be in the market for an adventure rig . Sure, waitlists may be long, thanks to overlanding’s explosive popularity combined with a pandemic that sent folks seeking outdoor experiences. But thankfully, there are more, better choices than ever before. Here are the best travel trailers and campers on the market this year. Plus, outfit the inner with some of our f avorite camping gear that takes outdoor adventure to the next level.

Taxa Outdoors’ Mantis Overland ($57,874 and up)

Bringing the whole family along? Taxa Outdoors’ Mantis Overland sleeps four adults (or more with an optional hammock and rooftop tent) and is one of the most unusual trailers we’ve tested. The center of the roof pops up for ample standing room, yet maintains aerodynamics and towing ease when collapsed. Everything inside is adjustable, from the rear dinette that converts into a bed to the bunks that collapse to make room for bikes. There’s even a fold-away wet bath. With a dry weight of 3,486 pounds, it’s light enough to tow with a midsize SUV, and its 14 inches of ground clearance can cover gnarly roads.

Dave and Matt Vans Lifestyle Vehicles ($64,982 and up)

If you want a van, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better value than one from Dave and Matt Vans Lifestyle Vehicles. The brand’s Ram Promaster build-outs boast beautiful and exceptionally well crafted interiors with solid components that give you everything you need in a camper—running water, a fridge, and solar power—without extraneous, complicated systems. The incredible part is that the total price includes the van itself, at a cost other companies charge for a buildout alone.

Skinny Guy Campers ($15,625 and up)

Our favorite new rig is from Skinny Guy Campers. The brand offers a completely new take on the lightweight truck camper shells that have become popular in recent years. The brand’s debut pop-up fits on top of your truck bed without taking up any of the valuable storage space below. It collapses down to a box that’s no higher than your cab (exact dimensions depend on truck size), so it barely dings your fuel economy and can fit in a garage. But unbuckle four latches and it expands upward into a cabin-shaped tent that sleeps two adults and offers a lot of the features you’d find in a traditional RV. Think: LED lighting, propane heat, running water, and even an indoor shower and flushing toilet. Four trim levels offer varying degrees of gadgetry and comfort, and six sizes ranging from 650 to 1,030 pounds means there’s a model for nearly every truck on the road.

The Best Travel Trailer Manufacturers in 2022

By: Author The Drivin' & Vibin' Team

Posted on December 16, 2021

It seems like there are about 10 billion types of travel trailers on the market today, which can get overwhelming when you’re shopping. How do you know what’s good and what isn’t?

If you want a travel trailer that lasts and a great customer service experience, you need to choose your manufacturer wisely.

We know the RV industry well and compiled this list of seven of the best travel trailer manufacturers for 2022 and beyond.

What Is a Travel Trailer?

A travel trailer is an RV trailer that hitches to the bumper of a tow vehicle. Depending on the size and weight, you can pull a travel trailer with a truck or an SUV.

Travel trailers come in many lengths, ranging from around 17’ up to 35’ or longer.

Travel trailers are an attractive option for RVers on a budget because they’re the lowest-priced RV type on the market. Luxury brands cost more, but overall, travel trailers are a great option for budget-savvy campers.

Pro Tip: Unsure if a travel trailer is right for you? This is Why You Should Choose a Travel Trailer RV .

What Makes a Travel Trailer Manufacturer Great?

Our list of the best travel trailer manufacturers comes down to a few key considerations. Here’s our list of criteria.

Builds Travel Trailers That Last

A great travel trailer manufacturer not only builds aesthetically pleasing RVs but its travel trailers also last.

These trailers can stand up to the rigors and stresses of RV life. It’s not surprising to see vintage models still on the road today.

Offers Versatile Floorplans

A great travel trailer manufacturer knows a “one-size-fits-all” floorplan doesn’t work for every RVer. Everyone has different needs. Some RVers have a family and want bunk beds for the kids.

Others are full-time and want a layout with plenty of open space and storage. And others just want the most functional layout possible.

With quality manufacturers, you’ll find a great variety of floorplans, so you can select one that suits your needs.

Has Top-Notch Customer Service

The best travel trailer manufacturers have top-notch customer service. What good is a long-lasting camper or a great floorplan if the manufacturer doesn’t back you up?

These manufacturers have a track record for incredible customer service time and time again.

Now that we’ve talked about what makes a great travel trailer manufacturer let’s see who makes the list. You’ll want to check these brands out if you’re shopping for a travel trailer.

Airstream is the tried and true, iconic, “silver bullet” RV and sits at the top of our list for a reason. The company consistently delivers beautiful and extremely high-quality travel trailers, and its customer service and community of RVers are incredible.

Airstream travel trailers come with a high price tag, but you definitely get what you pay for here.

With an Airstream trailer, you’re getting the highest quality interior design, luxury features, fixtures, and amenities. Plus, you’ll own an American icon.

the best travel trailers 2022

Grand Design

Grand Design RVs consistently tops the list for one of the best RV manufacturers around. This brand manufactures travel trailers and fifth wheels that are out-of-this-world.

The layouts are functional and versatile, in addition to having beautiful designs.

But where Grand Design really shines is its customer service and satisfaction.

the best travel trailers 2022

Lance travel trailers are among the highest-quality travel trailers on the road today. This manufacturer builds beautiful and functional four-season campers that will last you for decades with proper care and maintenance.

In addition to its top-notch build quality and materials, Lance offers great customer service.

the best travel trailers 2022

Keystone is a travel trailer and fifth wheel brand that shines when it comes to aesthetics and community involvement. It actively listens to what RVers want to see in RV designs and brings those desires to life year after year.

New Keystone RVs appeal to the modern RVer. You won’t find dark browns or beiges in these RVs: modern farmhouse decor and a light aesthetic are in.

In addition, Keystone travel trailers have budget and lightweight options, options for the remote worker, and so much more.

the best travel trailers 2022

Bigfoot RVs has been building quality travel trailers and truck campers for more than 30 years. You might not recognize the name, and that’s part of what makes them so great.

Bigfoot RV is a small RV manufacturer that sells RVs through factory outlets in Canada and the U.S.

It’s not uncommon to see vintage Bigfoot RVs still on the road today because of the company’s unparalleled build quality.

the best travel trailers 2022

Oliver Travel Trailers makes luxury molded fiberglass campers that stand the test of time. Molded fiberglass travel trailers are less prone to leakage and mold. Oliver goes above and beyond by incorporating luxury elements into these small, durable campers.

In addition to its excellent build quality and top-notch customer service, Oliver proves that it knows what RVers want and need. New Oliver travel trailers come with optional lithium packages for RVers who want to stay off the grid.

The lithium packages come with lithium batteries, a solar package, an inverter, and a Micro-Air soft start for the AC.

Part of what makes Oliver so great is that it’s a small, family-owned company. These travel trailers aren’t mass-produced.

the best travel trailers 2022

Outdoors RV

Outdoors RV produces high-quality campers meant for the rugged, off-grid camping lifestyle. All Outdoors RV travel trailers come “mountain tough,” with four-seasons insulation.

These RVs are designed for the active RVer who travels in all climates and all-terrain. This company is clearly dedicated to high-quality travel trailers that stand up to a rugged lifestyle.

The 13 Best Camper Vans and Trailers We Saw in 2022

Tiny teardrops. Million-dollar overlanding monsters. And everything in between.

best camper vans

By Tyler Duffy

This story is part of our end-of-year series This Year in Gear , rounding up the most notable releases of 2022. For more stories like this, click here .

The camping and overlanding movement has become an irresistible force. It caught fire before the pandemic, got a strong dose of accelerant during it and kept right on growing into 2022. The new product releases this year had something for everyone, from basic teardrops to million-dollar Unimog-based monsters and everything in between.

Here are our favorite campers and trailers we saw in 2022.

Airstream x REI Co-op Basecamp

airstream rei coop basecamp trailer

The Basecamp is Airstream’s smallest camping trailer. They partnered with REI on a special edition version to emphasize sustainability with a solar power upgrade, fabrics and laminates made from post-consumer recycled materials and sustainable wood. You can also add on a composting toilet.

2023 Ford Transit Trail

ford transit trail on a trail

Building out a custom camper van can be fun. Lifting the van yourself, swapping out the suspension and potentially voiding your warranty is not as fun. Ford offers professional and DIY custom camper van builders a hand with the new Transit Trail, which comes stock with a 2.25-inch suspension lift, all-terrain tires and the ability to be repaired as a stock vehicle at Ford’s vast dealer network.

WanderBox Outpost 35 4×4

wanderbox outpost camper parked on an off road trail with a pond and tree covered mountain in the background

Do you want a luxury apartment on wheels for your camper or a beastly overlander? WanderBox asks why not both with their new Outpost 35 4×4 overlanding vehicle. It’s built on an F600 chassis with massive 41-inch off-road tires. And you are prepped to leave the grid for a while with a 200-gallon freshwater tank, 2,800 watts of solar power and a 190 gallon diesel generator backup.

Winnebago Solis NPF

winnebago solis npf camper van driving with mountains in the background

Winnebago updated its affordable Solis camper van with a National Parks Foundation package that includes an overland-style drawer system, all-terrain tires, a SumoSprings suspension and insulated floor and window coverings for multiple-season use.

Airstream Rangeline

airstream rangeline parked in a field with mountains in the background and a mountain biker in the foreground

The Airstream Interstate van is excellent, but pricey. Airstream unveiled a relatively cheaper camper van, the Rangeline, based on the Ram Promaster 3500 chassis. It doesn’t offer every feature you could want in a camper van — it has high-traction FWD instead of AWD — but it starts around $70,000 cheaper than the Interstate.

Go Sun x Camp365 Camping Trailer

gosun camp365 camper

Trailer builder Camp 365 and solar power products provider GoSun combined their efforts to build the “world’s first fold-out camping trailer.” The trailer is compact and light enough to be towed by just about any vehicle. It folds out to provide spacious accommodations. And the solar power won’t leave you beholden to an expensive campsite.

Bowlus Volterra

bowlus camping trailer parked at campsite with chairs out front and a sunset in the background

Bowlus unveiled the Volterra, their first 100 percent electric production model. It doesn’t come with an electric motor, but it can hold up to 100 percent more power than their Terra Firma model and give an EV up to 65 miles of juice. And Starlink internet service will keep you tethered to your place of employment.

Winnebago Hike 100

winnebago hike 100

That camping trailer life can be expensive and intimidating. Winnebago’s tiny Hike 100 aims to be anything but, offering all the comforts of home and gear storage you need in a compact, easily towable package that starts for less than $30,000.

Taxa Outdoors x Topo Designs Woolly Bear

taxa outdoors 2022 woolly bear overland

When two brands we love combine, magic generally happens. Taxa Outdoors collaborated with Topo Designs on a special edition of their Wooly Bear camping trailer, which includes a Topo colorway for the trailer itself and comes preloaded with some custom Topo Designs bags.

Stone Offroad Design Rise 4×4

rise 4x4 unimog camper

All-wheel-drive camper vans are great. But German builder Stone Offroad Design takes it a step further using a beastly Mercedes Unimog as the base vehicle. It sticks with the stock Unimog components, which include dedicated off-road gears, locking front and rear differentials and almost four-feet of water-fording capability. Price tag? About $1 million.

https://www.gearpatrol.com/cars/a39562507/signature-deluxe-ii-off-road-camping-trailer/

Signature Deluxe II

signature deluxe ii camping trailer

Two Aussie brands, Signature and Toytuf, collaborated on the 2022 Deluxe II camping trailer , which offers a revolutionary rooftop setup. Rooftop tent or rooftop cargo box ? The Deluxe II offers both with an innovative storage cage that allows you to store gear or unwieldy items before mounting the tent on top.

Campravan Raptor XC

raptor xc extendable camping trailer

There are a lot of cool off-road camping trailers out there. But typically, the added capability to follow your off-roader into the great beyond forces you to sacrifice living space and amenities. A German company, Hunter Nature, resolved that problem with their Campravan Raptor XC — a slide-out, extendable camping trailer.

Ultimate Camper

ultimate camper teardrop trailer

Small camping trailers typically require a lot of compromises. But the Ultimate Camper from Ultimate Toys combines many of the best attributes of large and small camping trailers into one — we’re not ashamed to call it adorable — package.

4 Best Travel Trailers for Couples in 2022

Travel trailer at sunset

Many couples long for the open road, but too many of them let that dream remain a dream.

For those of you looking to purchase your first trailer or upgrade your current trailer, here are several choices that I consider to be the best travel trailers for couples.

2021 Best Travel Trailers for Couples

1. 2021 Grand Design Imagine 2250RK 2. Forest River Flagstaff E-Pro E19FBS 3. Coachmen – Freedom Express 259FKDS 4. 2021 Keystone Cougar 22RBS

2021 Grand Design Imagine 2250RK

2020 Grand Design Imagine 2250RK

Grand Design is well-known for its 285-point pre-delivery inspections. Their campers are often better designed and overall more reliable than much of their competition. The 2250RK is one model from their lineup which I believe most couples will appreciate.

What doesn’t work for one situation can work perfectly for another. This layout is a good example of this truth. The bathroom separates the bedroom from the rest of the camper. If the 2250RK housed more than three people, it would be a source of constant frustration. Owned by a couple, it becomes a nice buffer for those early bird/night owl combinations. There are three living separate living spaces within this unit. Let’s go over each of them.

Living Area

It’s the classic combination in a not so classic configuration. The dinette and the kitchen are usually placed on opposing walls with a small pathway between them. In the 2250RK, they place the kitchen at the rear of the camper which gives it a large area for its counter-tops, three-burner stove, oven, microwave, and a plethora of storage cabinets. One side of the nearby wall space is occupied by two theater seats which oppose a fireplace, counter, and a telescoping 40″ TV. The theater seats are fully featured and double as a couch. They come with cup-holding armrests and pop-out leg rests. The theater seats heat, they massage, and they are super comfortable. If you want to convert it to the couch, simply lift the center armrests and its done.

No Dining Table

It isn’t something that you see too often, and I have mixed feelings about it. It is annoying to not have a table to place your plates and random belongings, but it opens up a lot of space. It pairs with the unique layout to create an almost residential size of space where you can comfortably stretch. After a little adjusting, I don’t think most people will miss the table. There are nearby alternative surfaces, kitchen counters, and an end cabinet, so I think what you gain is worth the cost of what you lose.

This unit comes with a single slide that houses the refrigerator, the pantry, and the fireplace. It is such a great use of the space, and you should definitely check it out by using the Grand Design website’s 3d viewer. It’ll make you a fan.

The Bathroom

The Grand Designers created a nice bathroom. The size of the room and placement of the fixtures leaves plenty of space. You won’t feel cramped on the toilet and the shower is tall enough to fit 99% of you.

The Bedroom

The bedroom is basic, but each component looks clean and feels like quality. The storage is what you might expect. His and hers hanging closets rest at opposing sides of the queen bed (60″ x 80″). Storage sits above the bed, and an over-sized bin works as the bed’s support. There isn’t a TV, but it is prepped for both TV and cable. If you want to do some reading, there are reading lights.

Forest River Flagstaff E-Pro E19FBS

Flagstaff E-Pro Trailer

The E19FBS isn’t right for everybody. In fact, in most cases, I would recommend another unit because the Forest River targets a specific audience. These units are best for first-time RV buyers that want to enter the lifestyle but cannot afford the higher-tier units. The quality control isn’t as good as some other brands, and the materials are often, but not always, lower quality or thinner than some of their counterparts. However it still makes our list as one of the best travel trailers for couples.

I love the design. Yes, it is short, so this is a game of sacrifices. It has an open floor plan, so it successfully keeps the unit from feeling claustrophobic even though it is only 20′ long.

Minimal would be a good way to describe it. You do have several spots for storage, but none of it will add up to a comfortable full-time living level of storage. Keep that in mind if you want a seasonal unit rather than a weekend-camper.

The Bed

If the front of the unit is considered north, the queen bed is to that north. They size it at 60″ X 80″, so it is a residential queen rather than the commonly short-changed RV version. You do have some storage both above and below. The storage above the bed is netted and the lower storage is smaller than most under-bed storage compartments.

The Kitchen

To the east, you will find the kitchen. There isn’t much counter-top space if everything is uncovered and in use. However, if the stove’s connected glass cover is closed, the added surface makes the space manageable.

The oven is great! I’ve seen a lot of larger RVs that have ovens that can’t fit much more than a tray of muffins. You have a bit more space with this camper’s oven.

It’s plastic; the whole thing: toilet, shower, shower curtain, and the sink. It’s also a bit on the small side, so there will not be a lot of room to stretch out. If the shower curtain was glass, your knees would probably uncomfortably pressed up against it. However, all of that is expected at this price point, so don’t hate on them too much. The silver lining is that this is a full bath unit which isn’t a given for a unit this size.

Coachmen – Freedom Express 259FKDS

the best travel trailers 2022

A new year brings new models, and in the case of the Freedom Express line, a new floor plan. The 259FKDS is a fresh take on one of the classic front-kitchen designs. With this fresh take, the 259FKDS brings several needed improvements that have frustrated many otherwise enjoyable weekends. This model comes from Coachmen’s ultra-lite luxury line of travel trailers. The lightweight design, great features, and the comparatively low price point create a fantastic entry point for a wide range of prospective buyers.

Easy To Haul

The combination of a short, lightweight trailer that sits on wide-stance axles makes this a super easy to haul. The wider stance, in a way, gives the driver training wheels by making the trailer pull like a smaller unit. This unit doesn’t come with a backup camera, but it is prepped for it, so that should be easy enough to upgrade.

Amazing Storage

I feel like a broken record by saying this again, but it has great storage. Correction, it has incredible storage. Not only is there storage in every nook and cranny of this camper, but there is a full-through exterior compartment. You don’t normally get one of those on front kitchen designs. That is one of the improvements to this type of floorplan that I was talking about earlier.

Outdoor Kitchen

Another blueprint improvement is the existence of an outdoor kitchen. It’s all there: a cabinet, a large sink with a high-rise faucet, and a medium-sized mini-fridge. Everybody loves a bit of outdoor grilling, and Coleman conveniently included one of their high-quality grills too. There is also a small pocket of space for some storage. Haylett RV suggested placing a small container of utensils in that spot which is a fantastic suggestion.

Indoor Kitchen

It’s fully equipped and nearly as convenient as a residential kitchen. It has great storage and amazing pantry space. The counters are large and the stainless steel double-basin sink has a high-rise faucet. You have the typical cooking appliances: oven, microwave, and three-burner stove.

Room to Stretch

Whether you are tall or wide, this space should work for you. Unless the slides are closed, you should be very comfortable in all of its spaces. The tall 6’9″ ceiling, spacious floor plan, and comfortable seating will welcome almost any size or shape.

I said spacious, and I meant it. The porcelain foot-flush toilet isn’t cramped and the shower with the classy glass door takes full advantage of the tall ceilings. You get some nice storage and somewhat decent counter space.

They managed to fit in a king-size bed. Don’t ask me how. It barely fits, but it does leave enough room to make your way around its edges. Most trailers this size do not have this size of a bed. However, most trailer bedrooms aren’t designed for anything but the bed and storage, so you aren’t really losing any true functionality. I actually like this bedroom’s design more than most units. They still managed to designed to keep it feeling open. There are several large cabinets over the head of the bed, to the sides, and past the foot of the bed.

At the foot, there is a lot of shelving space where the TV is installed. Of course, that comes with all the typical entertainment hookups.

2021 Keystone Cougar 22RBS

Keystone Cougar

Keystone has made one of the best small trailers available today. The 22RBS is a large trailer in a little trailer’s body. It has inherited the big-bodied genetics of the larger trailers but somehow managed to contain them within a very small 25’11” frame. As we go through each of the features, you will see how time after time this trailer exceeds all expectations.

Four Season Camping

Small trailers are very rarely built to withstand the colder temperatures. Thanks to a plethora of weather-related features, the 22RBS cannot only stand a chilly day, but it is rated for zero-degree temperatures. It has a heated and enclosed underbelly, a radiant barrier, and tank heaters. The furnace lines that warm the trailer are set next to the waterlines so that they can take advantage of the radiating heat.

All of that is great for keeping the cold out and the heat inside the trailer. What about if the interior is already at an uncomfortable temperature. If that’s the case, you will be happy to know that the 22RBS includes a 15,000 BTU air conditioner and the 35,000 BTU heater. Between those two, no matter the weather, you will be able to quickly transform any uncomfortable situation into something much more comfortable. It is incredible that the 15,000 BTU is a standard feature. If it was any other brand of trailer, this would definitely be an upgrade. This is a benefit that is included thanks to Keystone’s standardization practice; one of several.

Even though this is considered a lightweight trailer, which it is, it has the 2-inch sidewalls of a heavyweight. It’s a great money saver if you plan on using those costly environmental controls.

If you like a nice breeze on a summer day, you will be happy to know of the many windows that you can find around the unit. Some of the windows are quite large too. The trailers slide is almost entirely composed of them. They are all tinted too, so you will still have the privacy that most of us desire.

Short and Sturdy

The chassis and axles are supremely overpowered which says great things that its ability to withstand all of the potentially damaging effects of time and weight. It also means that you will be able to have a massively increased cargo capacity. Thanks to one of the best uses of storage space; you will have plenty of ways to take advantage of it.

I know I keep bringing this up on each unit, but it is important. There is a TON of storage space. It’s fantastic that there are so many places for storage because the chassis and axles opened the ability for us to make even more room for storing items. In addition to all of that space, you also get the largest hanging closet that I’ve seen in quite a long time. It’s been noted that you could, and people have, fit an entire refrigerator in there.

Any cooks out there should start celebrating. You might just have the best kitchen for a unit of this size. Big counter-tops, lots of storage, three-burner stove, an oven, a double-basin stainless steel sink with a high-rise faucet, a microwave, and all of it just looks fantastic.

In Command App

Your touchscreen command center can connect to your phone. Anything that you would normally control from the panel is accessible from your pocket. It’s super convenient, and I am happy to say, becoming increasingly common across all RVs.

  • Fresh: 60 Gallons
  • Exterior Height: 11 Feet, 4 Inches
  • Exterior Length:25 Feet, 11 Inches
  • Shipping Weight: 1,593 Pounds
  • Gross Combined Vehicle Weight: 7,200 Pounds

  • Large 4K TV on Articulating Mount
  • 3-Inch Solid Door Frames
  • Related Floor Plans: 13

Conclusion On The Best Trailers for Couples

Ultimately the best trailer that will work for you and your partner as a couple will depend on your own personal wants and needs. Narrow the list of trailers down by common features that you would both like to have and then start to include additional features.

Grand design imagine

Grand Design RV is another one of the most popular RV companies within the industry. They have a very loyal and caring fan base that will constantly rank Grand design as the best RV company in the United States (which is surprising, considering the company started in 2001 – it hasn’t been around nearly as long as some other competitors on this list).

Each Grand Design travel trailer and fifth wheel come with a 3-year limited structural warranty, which is another reason why this brand is so popular. This company also allied with Winnebago and operates as an independent business within Winnebago Industries (which is something not many people may know)!

Oliver Travel Trailer

The Oliver brand makes great quality and luxury fiberglass travel trailers. This company was started by twin brothers Jim and John Oliver in 2008!

One of the high-quality aspects of Oliver travel trailers is found with the wheels found on all Oliver models. The wheels are not cheap travel-trailer wheels, but rather E-rated, 10 ply, light truck tires.

The frame is aircraft-grade aluminum which provides long-term durability for all of its travel trailers. Many Oliver Travel Trailers also come with an insulated double shell that keeps the cold air out!

All water lines, appliances, tanks are enclosed within the lower shell to also help keep these things from freezing up.

The Oliver Legacy Elite 2 is one of their top-rated all fiberglass campers.

Mossy Oak Travel Trailer

Next on our list is another company with a very long history within the world of RV manufacturing. Starcraft was originally founded in 1903 but produced metal farming equipment (not RVs and travel trailers).

The company didn’t start manufacturing RVs until 1968 once they were purchased by Jayco (another manufacturer that we’ll talk about in a bit). They were eventually purchased by Thor industries. However, Starcraft retains its own name and image, while also having access to Thor’s quality components!

All Starcraft travel trailers come with a 3-year warranty, as well as including a Magnum Roof System and their trademarked Tuffshell (a vacuum-bonded lamination used for all of the walls within their RVs).

The Starcraft travel trailer that most stands out to us is none other than their Mossy Oak travel trailer.

# 6 Best Bunk Room Travel Trailers 2023

Travel trailers with bunk beds are popular, but travel trailers with separate bunk room and a private bunk room travel trailer floorplan are not that common.

This time, we reviewed two different floor plans regarding the number of bunk beds. On the one hand, the new 2023 Premier 33BKPR bunk room travel trailer with only 2 bunk beds in a private bedroom and a half bath inside the bunk room. On the other hand, a bunk room travel trailer with 4 bunk beds, the 2023 Imagine 3210BH.

Let’s see these two travel trailers with bunk rooms in detail.

Best Travel Trailer with 4 Bunk Beds for 2023: Grand Design RV Imagine 3210BH Bunk Room

Are you looking for a 2023 travel trailer with 4 bunks? The New 2023 Imagine 3210BH by Grand Design RV has a private bunk room with four bunk beds, organized in a completely private separate bedroom. In other words, the Imagine 3210BH is a Rear Quad Bunkhouse Travel Trailer.

Bunk Room Travel Trailer 2023 Imagine 3210BH review

As you can see in the floor plan below, the 2023 Imagine 3210BH is a travel trailer with a rear bunk room, entirely private for 4 people. The private master queen bedroom is in front of the RV, while the full bath is ensuite and allows a pass-thru to the central area of the camper. So, if you close all the doors for privacy, you will have this amazing travel trailer separated into 2 bedrooms (or 3 bedrooms if you consider the middle section a bedroom when the doors are closed), with a sleeping capacity between 6 and 9 depending on the optional arrangements selected.

The 2 slides-out of this camper are large and central, providing comfortable space for the cooking, dinette, and entertainment areas. The RV wall-mounted TV is installed so you can enjoy it from the island kitchen, theater seating, or booth dinette.

# 7 Best Travel Trailers with NO Bunk Beds For 5 to 10 People

In recent conversations with RVers friends, we talked about the new RV floor plans for 2023 and compared some from 2022 , and they were saying, “ Show me a travel trailer without bunks “, and “ There must be travel trailers with no bunk beds ”. That’s right, bunk beds are not a good idea for couples who occasionally receive visitors. We can’t willingly add teenagers if we offer them to sleep on a bunk mat. Let’s face it.

Here, we have two options for 2023 travel trailers with no bunk beds. The new Alpha Wolf 28FKK-L travel trailer floor plan for 2023 , and the well-known Catalina Legacy Edition 343BHTS travel trailer with 2 queen bedrooms were rereleased in 2023 with little upgrades from previous years. Let’s check them out.

Best Travel Trailer Sleeps 5 No Bunk Beds: New 2023 Alpha Wolf 28FKK-L Floor Plan

Forest River RV recently introduced a new 2023 Alpha Wolf 28FKK-L travel trailer floor plan.

Inspired by its most popular travel trailer, the Cherokee Alpha Wolf 26DBH-L, a bunkhouse travel trailer with a queen-sized bed, Forest River presents a new travel trailer floorplan for 2023: The Alpha Wolf 28FKK-L travel trailer.

As we explained many other times, bunk beds are fine for kids. Still, the comfort may be limited, and it is more versatile for RV owners to have the area that a bunkhouse would occupy and unfold sofas and booth dinettes when needed to increase the sleeping capacity. It is a way to make an investment that does not require changing RV models to accommodate other floor plans needed to adjust to the age of the family members.

The new 2023 Alpha Wolf 28FKK-L travel trailer has a private master queen-size bedroom. In the center of the master bedroom is a queen-sized bed with plenty of room to walk around the bed and nightstands. The bedroom has direct access to the bathroom, and the area can be enclosed with solid doors, giving privacy to the rear of the RV.

New Alpha Wolf 28FKK-L Travel Trailer No Bunk Beds

The bathroom is significant and comfortable, with plenty of storage. The shower is in the corner of the bathroom (radius shower), with hard curved sliding glass doors and a skylight.

Something that we are going to highlight in this new travel trailer, Alpha Wolf 28FKK-L floorplan , is the walk-in pantry that allows having a well-organized and even more minimalist camper .

New Alpha Wolf 28FKK-L Travel Trailer Sleeps 5

The kitchen in the corner of the travel trailer is spacious enough to prepare and cook meals. It is not an island kitchen, nor too big, but it has a good proportion according to the number of people that can sleep in this camper (sleeps 5). In addition, there is an outdoor kitchen , which complements very well with the qualities of this travel trailer designed for families or couples who want to host family and friends.

Alpha Wolf 28FKK-L Travel Trailer review

One of the reasons we chose this 2023 camper as one of the best travel trailers 2023 over others is the excellent value for the money (estimated price $39,500). Considering it is a travel trailer that sleeps 5, private rear bedroom, front kitchen, full dry bath with double and a radius shower, two slides-out, outside kitchen, two entry/exit doors, and an excellent length/weight ratio (under 9000 lbs. gross weight and less than 33 feet long), there is an excellent value for the money in this 2023 travel trailer .

Although it’s not the most affordable model available (MSRP: $47,863), you’ll receive a lot for your money. For families on the road, this kind of bunkhouse is ideal. Although the trailer is large enough for everyone to have their own room, it is nevertheless manageable on the highways, as it is a bunkhouse travel trailer under 30 feet . The back area is divided, with a complete dry bathroom on one side and a set of bunk beds on the other.

The main bedroom is located in the front portion of this travel trailer. This room has a queen-size bed, nightstands, two closets, and a sizable overhead storage space. Another option for this space is a wall-mounted TV.

The living room and kitchen are merged in the middle part. A generous U-shaped dinette is located in a single carpeted slide-out. Along with a pantry and home refrigerator, the kitchen has all the necessary appliances.

testing the best travel strollers, from cybex to nuna

Navigating an already crowded New York City subway with a full-sized stroller—or any airport monorail, for that matter—will make you vow to teach your baby to walk at six months. At least that was the case for me, prompting many a late-night search for “What’s the best travel stroller?” and “compact stroller that’s not flimsy and won’t hurt back.”

As much as I trust our search engine overlords to understand my fragmented queries (isn’t that the power of AI?), all the options meshed into a general…sameness. Steel-framed, plastic-wheeled baby-holders that promise to fold with one hand and kinda, maybe fit into an overhead bin, ranging in price from $100-ish to the down payment on a used car . But which one should I buy?! And do I really need to spend $400 or more on one?! So, I did what anyone with the luxury of working at a product-reviewing lifestyle site would do: I called on parents to help test the top-reviewed and up-and-coming brands on the market, vetting them to bring you the Best Travel Strollers on the Market.

Best Full-Size Stroller Alternative

Thule spring stroller, how i chose the best travel strollers.

Beyond scouring reviews, I interviewed parents for their recommendations, then put the top models in my research to the test. I asked a team of seven parents to spend at least one week using their stroller(s), paying close attention to:

  • Ease of Use: Can you really fold/unfold it with one hand? Did you need to keep referring to the instructions to adjust it? What was setup like?
  • Maneuverability: How does it handle different terrain, from sidewalks and streets to gravel and dirt paths or cobblestone roads? What’s its turning radius like?
  • Sturdiness: Does it feel like it’s going to fall apart after repeated use? Could it withstand being tossed around by TSA? If your kid surpasses 30 pounds, will it be a struggle to push?
  • Comfort—for You and Your Baby: Is the seat cushioned and supportive? Are the handlebars adjustable? Do you have to hunch to push it along?
  • Overall Size: Is it narrower than the typical stroller? Does it fold up to a more compact size?
  • Special Features: Can you stow anything under the seat? Is it compatible with an infant car seat? Does it have a snack tray or cup holder? Or a generously sized canopy?
  • Value: With all of these points considered, how does that compare to the price?

The 5 Best Travel Strollers, Tested by PureWow Parents

bugaboo butterfly travel stroller

1. Bugaboo Butterfly Stroller

What i like:.

  • Large UPF 50+ sun canopy
  • Underseat basket holds roughly 17 pounds
  • Lightweight (16 lbs)
  • Car seat compatible (adapters sold separately)
  • IATA compatible for flights

What I Don’t Like:

  • Somewhat pricey
  • Transport bag sold separately

As soon as I mentioned “travel strollers” to anyone who owned a Bugaboo Butterfly, their voice would drop to a conspiratorial whisper as they gushed about it. Sorry, friends, but I’m leaking your best-kept secret. Our reviewer struggled to find fault with it. “I've replaced my full-size stroller with this one, and I never want to go back,” says Rachel Gulmi , PureWow Operations Director of Branded Content and mom of one. “I also love the extendable canopy. It's huge and blocks so much sunlight, which is great for hot summer days or on-the-go naps.” (This is worth noting, since most compact strollers feature little more than a visor on top, which is kind of a joke on a cloudless day.)

Gulmi also attested to the brand’s promise of a “one-second fold,” adding that she’s been able to easily fold and unfold it while holding her toddler or carrying things, and that it collapses to a carry-on size, so there’s no need to gate-check it.

  • Dimensions: 17.7” x 9.1” x 21.3” (folded); 36.4” x 17.7” x 40.3” (unfolded)
  • Age Range: 6 months to 4 years (max 50 lbs)
  • Passed One-Handed Fold Test? Yes

2. Babyzen YoYo Connect Stroller

  • Features shoulder strap for easy carrying
  • Super lightweight (13 lbs)
  • Water-repellant fabric
  • Handlebars don’t adjust
  • Under carriage storage is small (holds 11 lbs)

Just as popular as the Bugaboo Butterfly is the YoYo. For international travel, where you’re likely to be hauling gear on planes, trains and automobiles, the YoYo reigns supreme. It feels as sturdy as the Bugaboo Butterfly and features a decent-sized canopy to shade kids, yet it’s 3 pounds lighter and features a shoulder strap for easy toting. Plus, if you’re worried about gate-checking, it folds up small enough to qualify as a carry-on.

“It’s just so lightweight and easy to fold,” says PureWow Executive Editor and mom-of-two Alexia Dellner , who “100 percent” recommends this model. “You do NOT need more things weighing you down when you travel so a lightweight stroller is a must. There isn't a ton of under storage space but there’s room for a small kids bag or tote bag’s worth of items, and the back pouch is handy for all those must-have items you want nearby (wipes, hand sanitizer, snacks, etc.).”

  • Dimensions: 20.5”L x 17.3”W x 7.1”H (folded); 33.8”L x 17.3”W x 41.7”H (unfolded)
  • Age range: newborn (with bassinet seat) to 4 years
  • Passed One-Handed Fold Test? No, but folding is still easy

3. Delta Clutch Stroller

  • Super lightweight (12 lbs)
  • Built-in carrying strap
  • Takes up roughly the space of a grocery bag
  • Canopy is too small to really block sun
  • Handles are short for taller parents

delta children

“Clutch” is an apt name for this relatively affordable stroller—with its hand strap, it resembles an oversized clutch when folded. It’s the most compact stroller out of the ones tested, making it a great pick if you already have a full-size stroller and are just looking for something to take on road trips or flights. This small stroller got me through six months living in Florida during the pandemic, and while the wheels are a bit small and rickety for off-road terrain, it maneuvers nicely along crowded streets and walkways. It’s also well within Disney stroller requirements , making it theme park-friendly.

At 5-foot-11, I tend to hunch a bit while pushing this stroller, but my petite friends had no issues using it. You’ll have no problem squeezing onto subway cars, and you can use it as a carry-on to skip the gate-check (though, to be honest, I have no issues gate-checking gear—unless it’s raining and I forgot a cover).

  • Dimensions: 15”L x 5.9”W x 19.7”H (folded); 29.5” L x 18.5” W x 39.8” H (unfolded)
  • Age range: for children up to 50 lbs (need strong head/neck control to sit up in five-point harness)

4. Guava Roam Crossover Stroller

  • Adjustable handlebar (from 34” to 45”)
  • Glides smoothly
  • Great turning radius
  • Wheel lock for easy jogging
  • Great on a variety of terrain
  • Heavy (28.5 lbs)

The one challenge of most jogging strollers is that you need a serious SUV—that isn’t full of other luggage—to haul them around. Not so with the Guava Roam, which folds up to be 50 percent smaller than the typical jogger, according to the brand. (And in testing, I can confirm it’s much smaller than the Bob jogger I borrowed from a friend.) Its wheels are massive, so they can handle all kinds of terrain, and the independent suspension provides a smooth ride, so your kid isn’t jostled about too much. The wheel lock on the handlebar is nice too, so you can easily secure the wheel as you get ready to run. I loved how smoothly it glides down the street, compared to other models tested, and how the adjustable handlebars—which pivot in height from 34” to 45”—allowed any of my friends and family to take it for a spin comfortably, regardless of height.

Would it be nice if it folded up even smaller? Yes. Did I have to consult the instructions, which were printed as images on the stroller itself, the first six times I used it? Yes. But all that said, it’s still the sleekest jogging stroller I’ve tried.

  • Dimensions: 29” L x 15” W x 17” H (folded); 39” L x 25” W x 43” H
  • Age range: From birth (with appropriate infant seat) to 60 lbs
  • Passed One-Handed Fold Test? Yes to folding; needed both hands to unfold

5. Thule Spring Stroller

  • One-hand adjustable handlebars (so parents of any height don’t hunch)
  • Multi-position seat recline
  • Heavy (23 lbs)
  • Bulky for big trips

If you want one stroller to do it all—sturdy and spacious enough to carry a kid up to 64 pounds, yet more compact than a full-size model—the Thule Spring is for you. It’s heavy duty and durable, but our reviewer, PureWow freelance editor and mom-of-one Rebecca Shapiro , noted that at 23 pounds, it may be too heavy to haul alongside luggage and a squirmy toddler in tow.  “I would be hesitant to use it on trips that I needed to carry the stroller for any significant amount of time,” she admits. However, “the one-handed fold and small footprint are amazing, and it's great to combine those conveniences with some of the things that we love about our larger, everyday stroller—unlike most travel strollers, it is smooth for both parent and child, and has some storage.”

  • Dimensions: 17.7" x 12.6" x 30" (folded); 35.2" x 23.4" x 38.6" (unfolded)
  • Age range: birth (with appropriate infant seat) to 64 lbs

The Top 3 Runners Up (In Case You Want More Options)

nuna trvl lx travel stroller

Best for Nuna Devotees

6. nuna trvl lx.

  • Spacious underseat storage
  • Lightweight (14.6 lbs)
  • Adjustable leg rest for toddlers
  • Carry bag included
  • Magnetic buckle makes buckling in kids easy
  • Challenging for uneven sidewalks or cracks in the road

Nuna car seats have their own following, and fans of the brand will love its compact stroller as an alternative to a full-size stroller. Your baby can use it from birth, if you pair it with the Nuna Pipa series car seat (sold separately; no adapter needed), up until they reach 50 pounds. Plus, it features some of the bells and whistles other reviewers said they missed, like a removable and adjustable armbar, a wide canopy and adjustable leg rest for little ones. “The stroller glides very smoothly and feels lightweight without being rickety,” says PureWow Senior Food Editor and mom-of-one Katherine Gillen . “My daughter seemed very happy in it, aside from when I tried to adjust the seat recline with her in it and it jolted back—definitely made her cry with that move.” All in all, she felt it was a bit bulky for airline travel, but it makes for a solid full-size stroller alternative for families who live in crowded cities and/or small apartments, where space is at a premium.

  • Dimensions: 21” x 14.25” x 27” (folded); 21” x 32” x 45.5” (unfolded)
  • Age range: from birth (with appropriate infant seat, sold separately) to 50 lbs

Eco-Friendly Travel Stroller

7. silver cross jet 4.

  • Lightweight (13.6 lbs)
  • Newborn lie-flat seat suitable for infants
  • Carry-on compatible

What I Don't Like:

  • Struggles with uneven terrain

silver cross

It’s a rare thing for a stroller to be so compact and yet, when unfurled, look so sleek. The Silver Cross Jet 4 features vegan leather details and anti-crease fabrics made from recycled water bottles, which contribute to its streamlined look. Each detail is designed for an on-the-go vacation lifestyle, from a brake that was created to be used with flip-flops (so you don’t jam your toes to lock it in place) to a wide, UPF50+ mesh canopy.

Our reviewer, Philadelphia mom Abby Plesser, raved about its compact size and how comfortable it was to steer around, though she noted that the small wheels could be tough for uneven terrain. “I got stuck several times on our city sidewalks with cracks, large gaps and uneven pavement. My son seems to love it—it's easy to clip him in and out, and the seat has nice padding for him,” Plesser says. “It would be great for airplane travel. I could also see it as a good option for people who live in walk-up apartments/homes and need something lighter than a traditional stroller to go up and down stairs.”

  • Dimensions: 8” x 12” x 22″ (folded); 35” x 18” x 38″ (unfolded)
  • Age range: From birth to 55 lbs
  • Passed One-Handed Fold Test? No

Most Stylish Compact Stroller

8. cybex coya stroller.

  • Carrying strap for easy toting
  • Adjustable leg rest for kids
  • Cybex car seat adapters included
  • May be too short for taller parents

Most travel strollers come in very limited colorways—three to four options is considered quite a range—but Cybex offers 25 color and frame combinations (from quiet luxury neutrals to a bold, “We the Best” tropical print collab with DJ Khaled). At 14.6 pounds, it’s relatively lightweight, and our tester had no trouble carrying it in one arm while tending to her four-month-old. (She did note that it got heavy once you attached the infant car seat.) “For such a lightweight stroller that has smaller wheels, it's surprisingly smooth on outdoor terrain,” PureWow Commerce Editor and mom-of-one Olivia Dubyak says. “I took it on a walk at a nearby park and felt that it did a very solid job at handling bumps, quick turns to avoid dips and puddles, all while riding smoothly and not seeing every bump in my child's jiggling cheeks.”

She also tested it with her 18-month-old nephew and said he was “super comfortable” and “secure” as they went on walks together. She did note, however, that he missed having a snack tray or place to hold his sippy cup.

  • Dimensions: 20.5” x 17.3” x 7.1” (folded); 31.1” x 17.3” x 38.2” (unfolded)
  • Age range: From birth (with appropriate infant seat, sold separately) to 4 years (or 55 lbs)

What to Look for in a Travel Stroller

As you vet options, consider:

  • Folded size: How tiny do you want it to get? If you want to use it as a carry-on, look for signs it’s IATA compatible (in general, that means it should be about 22” long, 18” wide and 10” deep when totally folded).
  • Unfolded height: Grab a measuring tape and gauge what height would be comfortable for you to push a stroller. For my petite colleagues, an unfolded height of 40” was fine, whereas in my case—I’m 5’11” with long legs, something closer to 42” or 43” was ideal. If you and your partner are varying heights, consider a model with adjustable handlebars, like the Thule Spring or Guava Roam .
  • Child size and weight requirements: Will you want to use it with an infant? If so, you’ll want an option that’s compatible with a bassinet attachment (like the YoYo) or infant car seats. If you have tall children, a super-compact model may be outgrown early. (My daughter’s legs were too long for the Delta Clutch, for example, well before she hit the 50-pound max weight.)
  • Storage: Is an under-basket bin important to you? What about a cup holder? Some of those things can be purchased separately, but it’s good to think through what you’re typically hauling, and what you won’t want to carry on your back as you travel.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best stroller for traveling by plane.

That depends on how you travel. If you pack light and would prefer not to gate-check your stroller (and risk it getting jostled as it’s packed onto the plane), opt for the Bugaboo Butterfly, Babyzen YoYo or Delta Clutch. If you don’t mind gate-checking and tend to prefer a heavier-duty stroller that can double as a luggage trolley (as I tend to do), go with the Thule Spring or Cybex Coya.

What Strollers Can Be Gate-Checked?

It’s always smart to check with your airline to see if they have specific requirements, but most strollers —even full-size ones—can be checked at the gate, provided they can be collapsed. TSA simply requires that they undergo inspection, and if they’re too large to be x-rayed, they will undergo a physical inspection.

What Baby Items Are Free to Bring on Flights?

Most airlines—such as Delta , JetBlue and United —will not charge you to gate-check a stroller, car seat or booster seat, and many do not count a diaper bag as part of your luggage allotment (provided you have an infant in arms listed on your ticket), but it’s always important to check with your carrier before booking.
