Burning Man returns once again from August 25 to September 2, 2024, marking its 38th year of celebration. If you missed the Main Sale back in April, don't fret. We've put together everything you need to know about how to get Burning Man tickets.

Based out of the Black Rock Desert of Nevada, the annual gathering is a tribute to art and community, rather than a music festival. Burning Man attendees usually camp out on the grounds for the duration of the event. More than 70,000 people attend annually, including many A-list celebrities. Last year's Burning Man was on the receiving end of some major rainfall, which turned the camp into a muddy mess, so attendees are hoping for better weather this year.

Keep reading for a full breakdown of how to get to Burning Man in 2024, including original and resale ticket prices. While there's no current sale for original standard tickets, you're welcome to peruse resale websites like Vivid Seats and StubHub at your own pace.

How to get Burning Man tickets

Original Burning Man tickets are sold through Burning Man's ticketing platform. Tickets are sold in waves, starting with the FOMO Sale and the Stewards Sale in early 2024, followed by the Main Sale in April. In addition to the Kid Tickets release on July 10, there is one more original ticket opportunity scheduled: the OMG Sale from July 24 to July 26. Burning Man has a Secure Ticket Exchange Program, but listings are also currently available through resale websites like Vivid Seats and StubHub .

How much are Burning Man tickets?

Original standard Burning Man tickets range in price from $575 to $2,500. Burning Man's Ticket Aid program released 5,00o tickets for $225 each, but the period for this option passed in March. Vehicle passes go for $150.

Resale websites like Vivid Seats and StubHub have an abundance of ticket listings. At the time of writing, the cheapest General Admission listings on Vivid Seats start at $595, while the cheapest General Admission listings on StubHub start at $681. Parking passes have become some of the hottest commodities for Burning Man, starting at $422 on Vivid Seats and $556 on StubHub.

WNBA to begin charter travel for all teams this season

This change in the way wnba players will travel to games will end league’s long-standing policy of mandated regular-season commercial flights..

The WNBA will begin charter travel for all 12 of its teams this season “as soon as we logistically can get planes in places,” Commissioner Cathy Engelbert told sports editors at a league meeting Tuesday afternoon, confirming a report on X by USA TODAY sports columnist Christine Brennan.

This very significant change in the way the world’s best women’s basketball players will travel to games will end the league’s long-standing policy of mandated regular-season commercial flights for its players.

“We intend to fund a full-time charter for this season,” Engelbert said. "We're going to as soon as we can get it up and running. Maybe it’s a couple weeks, maybe it’s a month … We are really excited for the prospects here.”

The WNBA’s decision comes as the league is seeing unprecedented growth, ticket sales and interest as the most recognizable rookie class in WNBA history, led by Caitlin Clark — arguably the best-known athlete in the nation — begins regular-season play May 14.

It also comes as Clark and the rest of the WNBA rookies had to take their first commercial flights as professional athletes for preseason games last weekend and be exposed to members of the public walking near them, approaching them and taking photos and videos of them, including in unsecured airport areas. All teams are traveling with security personnel this season.

"It was all right," Angel Reese said of flying commercial to Minneapolis for last Friday's game against the Minnesota Lynx.

"We have a great security team. Chicago has done a great job being able to put in place some great guys and they've been amazing for us," Reese said before the Sky's preseason game against the New York Liberty on Tuesday night.

In June 2023, Phoenix star Brittney Griner , who spent nearly 10 months in Russian custody in 2022, was harassed in the Dallas airport by a right-wing YouTube personality who yelled at her and tussled with Phoenix Mercury security in an airport concourse. The WNBA allowed Griner to fly private charters the rest of the season.

This season, the league was already planning to allow teams to charter when playing back-to-back games as well as during the playoffs but otherwise fly commercially. The league hasn’t allowed charter flights over the years because it said that would create a competitive advantage for teams that wanted to pay for them over those that did not.

Flying commercial has been a part of the WNBA’s current collective bargaining agreement with its players, which was signed in 2020. Ironically, many WNBA newcomers flew on charters throughout their college careers.

WNBA player reaction

During a call with reporters on Tuesday, New York Liberty stars Jonquel Jones and Breanna Stewart weighed in on what charter travel would mean to players.

"As we continue to add more games into the season and change the way the Commissioner's Cup is being played this year, it just adds a little bit more travel into our schedules and stuff," Jones said. "If we can try to find some kinds of help with our recovery and, you know, just being able to get rest so that we can put our best product out there on the court."

Stewart agreed with Jones.

"It's exactly that, obviously. Understanding (it’s) player health and wellness but also player safety, and making sure that we can get from point A to point B and have the focus be our jobs and our team," Stewart said.

Las Vegas Aces coach Becky Hammon, who had been an outspoken proponent of adding charter flights after spending eight years as an assistant with the NBA's San Antonio Spurs, said the immediate reaction from everyone is "great!"

"This is something that the league has been pushing for for a long time for its players," Hammon said. "I look at it as we can put a better product out there."

WNBA will let teams use charter flights for 2024 season

The initiative reportedly will cost the league $25 million per year over the next two seasons.

A new era in the WNBA is here.

If it weren’t already apparent by the attention the 2024 rookie class has drawn, it became impossible to ignore when commissioner Cathy Engelbert confirmed Tuesday that the league would adopt charter travel.

‘‘We intend to fund a full-time charter for this season,’’ Engelbert said in a meeting with APSE editors.

The news comes after years of players advocating for improved travel conditions. On social media, players have documented everything from canceled flights forcing them to sleep overnight at airports to squeezing their above-average frames into uncomfortable seats.

The WNBA has made incremental improvements to travel in the last few years, including providing charter flights for the playoffs. Engelbert always had maintained, however, that the league wouldn’t adopt charter travel unless it was fiscally responsible.

A combination of factors has contributed to that now being the case, starting with an influx of interest that has contributed to business growth. Also on the horizon is a new media-rights deal, which is expected to bring a significant increase over the current deal.

Engelbert said in a recent interview with CNBC that she expects the league to double its current media-rights fees, which reportedly are $60 million a year.

Before the Chicago Sky ’s preseason game Tuesday against the Liberty, players still were wondering whether the news was ‘‘official.’’

Thursday, the league issued a release making the news official and sharing that Delta will be the primary operator of the initiative. The league-wide charter program will be “phased in,” beginning with the 2024 WNBA season, which begins on May 14.

Recovery tops the list of player experiences that will be improved by the implementation of charter flights.

‘‘Usually, you don’t [take ice baths and certain recovery steps after games],’’ two-time league MVP Breanna Stewart told the Sun-Times. ‘‘If you’re on a commercial flight, you have to get out of there as soon as possible. Now we’ll have a plane revolving around us.’’

‘‘Being able to get out of cities quickly will be really important,’’ Sky center Elizabeth Williams said. ‘‘Especially in an Olympic year with 40 games . It’s going to make a big difference.’’

Overall, the feeling from players and coaches is that the investment by the league will benefit the business because it will lead to a better product on the court.

‘‘It’s fantastic news,’’ Liberty coach Sandy Brondello said. ‘‘Credit to the WNBA. They’ve listened. They’ve found ways to make it happen. We talk about the product is so good, having charter flights is going to help.’’

Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon didn’t want to comment, saying: ‘‘It’s a [collective-bargaining] thing. I definitely can’t comment.’’

Charter flights all but became a necessity with the attention the 2024 rookie class has received. A recent video of the Fever, specifically of 2023 Rookie of the Year Aliyah Boston and No. 1 overall draft pick Caitlin Clark , sparked fan concern on social media regarding player safety in the airport. But that concern has been mounting for years.

Last year, the Mercury were vocal about their airport concerns. They dealt with at least one instance of confrontation in which they called an individual’s actions ‘‘inappropriate and unfortunate.’’

Teams had no prior knowledge of the impending change early Tuesday according to multiple league sources. Most players learned of the news on social media.

And while the rookie class is receiving much-deserved credit for bringing added eyes, attention and scrutiny to the WNBA’s inadequacies, it’s the veterans who have voiced concerns for years.

Stewart called for the need for charter travel during her free agency in 2023, and Liberty teammate Jonquel Jones also has been vocal about the topic through the years.

‘‘Sometimes things can seem like they’re well-known because you live it every day,’’ Jones said. ‘‘You don’t realize that without you speaking up, people don’t really realize what’s going on behind the scenes or what WNBA players are experiencing.’’

Why chartered flights could be a game-changer for WNBA players

Since the WNBA launched in 1997, teams have primarily traveled on commercial airlines due to financial reasons. And all travel parameters were part of the collective bargaining agreements between the league and players' union. But in recent years, the call for charter flights has grown more insistent.

Players have cited health and safety concerns, explaining that commercial travel adds to fatigue, which impacts performance. Plus, the growing popularity of WNBA players has made their security in public places a more urgent issue.

The WNBA began using charters for all playoff games in 2023. But on Tuesday, the league -- without going into specifics -- confirmed even bigger travel changes are coming.

"We intend to fund a full-time charter for this season," WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert said. "We're going to as soon as we can get it up and running. Maybe it's a couple weeks, maybe it's a month ... We are really excited for the prospects here."

Engelbert said it's projected to cost around $25 million per year for the next two seasons, according to The Associated Press. But other details -- including the funding for charters and what happens to the commercial tickets already purchased for teams' travel -- haven't been announced. Switching to charters is a landmark move for the players' working experience, one of Engelbert's priorities.

The growth of the college season, which had record television viewership numbers, and the WNBA appears to have accelerated interest and investment in women's basketball.

"We've been on a wave," Minnesota Lynx and U.S. Olympic team coach Cheryl Reeve said Tuesday on a media call. "But this is like a bit more of a tsunami. If you think the status quo is going to work, you're going to miss out on opportunities to capitalize. Having more of a forward-thinking mindset, being innovative -- that time is now."

ESPN's Kevin Pelton, Alexa Philippou and Michael Voepel look at what the move means for the WNBA season and for the players and the collective bargaining agreement going forward.

WNBA players have been clamoring for full-time charters for some time. Why is the league doing this now?

Philippou: As recently as last month at the WNBA draft, Engelbert said, "We have to be in the right financial position" for chartering and "we're not going to jeopardize the financial viability of this league ... we'll do it at the appropriate time." She has repeatedly said the WNBA has to be able to fund it long-term, not just find a solution for a year or two.

With the explosion of interest in women's basketball when it comes to television viewership, fan popularity and commercial buy-in -- plus more than likely a lucrative upcoming media rights deal for which the league has been in negotiations -- the WNBA must feel confident in its financial situation moving forward to secure chartering before the current CBA is even up.

Pelton: The increased attention on women's basketball also means more scrutiny on the league's decisions, and charter travel is overwhelmingly popular among fans. That might have helped tip this issue over the line. Certain franchises, led by the Las Vegas Aces and New York Liberty , were adamant about their desire to travel using charters. We've been moving toward increased use of charter flights for a while, so it was a matter of when and not if this would happen.

Voepel: Because of NIL, top players are building portfolios and brands in college. Companies are investing in them, and there is more impetus to protect those investments. Players such as the Indiana Fever 's Caitlin Clark and the Chicago Sky 's Angel Reese have endorsement deals that have put them in the millionaire category before even playing a WNBA game. If NIL had been in place years earlier, other top women's players would have brought a similar kind of financial leverage into the WNBA. But it's happening now.

What has Engelbert said about the financial commitment for this decision? How will the league fund a full-time charter program?

Voepel: Some franchises have more resources than others. But it was against the collective bargaining agreement and league rules for those franchises to charter, as it was considered a competitive advantage. The New York Liberty were fined $500,000 in 2022 for having used charters for game travel and a team excursion in 2021.

Engelbert is an accountant by trade who rose to CEO of Deloitte before retiring from the finance world and moving to the WNBA. As Alexa said, Engelbert has been metronome-like in saying charters had to make financial sense. So while we don't know the details yet, it's reasonable to think the WNBA has made enough progress on that front to do this. There has never been an indication that Engelbert would even consider taking a huge financial risk that could harm the league.

Philippou: Prior to Tuesday's news, Engelbert had said that the league would spend $4 million on chartering for the 2024 postseason, Commissioner's Cup and back-to-back games requiring air travel.

What does this mean for the upcoming CBA negotiations?

Pelton: It's a huge win for the players to address their biggest concern without needing to bargain for it during CBA negotiations. That sets the stage for players to aim higher: getting a guaranteed share of revenue, like NBA and NFL players enjoy in exchange for their league's salary caps. The current CBA guarantees players only a designated share of revenue past cumulative growth targets starting with the 2020 season, when there was no ticket revenue due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It's not realistic for WNBA players to get the same percentage of revenue as their NBA counterparts (50% of basketball-related income) because fixed costs like travel eat up a larger share of expenses. Still, tying the cap to revenues would allow players' salaries to keep pace as WNBA revenue booms.

Voepel: What Kevin said is key: The growth targets for WNBA revenue sharing have never been triggered. So it really hasn't mattered what the percentage was, from CBA to CBA, since they never reached the trigger to begin with. But if those targets are adjusted, combined with more growth, that changes things.

Many of us who cover the WNBA have pointed out that the players have signed off on all their CBAs over the years without insisting on the move away from commercial travel. So while they might complain about it, they did agree to it. The assumption was that they would finally reach a CBA negotiation where both sides could agree it was time to use charters. The players can opt out early from the current CBA after 2025, but it appears if they do that, they won't have to negotiate the move to charters.

Philippou: In ESPN's WNBA player survey last summer , over half the players polled stated travel was the top issue facing the league at that moment. Assuming the chartering issue is now fully taken care of, players might look to fight for roster expansion -- currently teams can have a maximum of only 12 players on their rosters, and some carry only 11 due to cap space -- or increased salaries -- the supermaximum in 2024 is $241,984. Both were commonly mentioned issues in our survey.

What role did security concerns play in ushering in this change?

Philippou: Last season, Brittney Griner -- who was detained in Russia for 10 months in 2022 before being freed in a high-profile prisoner exchange -- was harassed in an airport by a provocateur , prompting the league to allow her to fly charter for the rest of the 2023 season. With high-profile players such as Clark and Reese entering the league this season, there was some concern about what sort of interactions those superstars would experience in airports. More generally, the profiles of WNBA players have never been greater, so limiting their exposure in public spaces helps ensure their safety and security.

Voepel: Becky Hammon played 16 seasons in the WNBA, then spent eight years as an NBA assistant before returning to the WNBA in December 2021 as Aces coach. She said improving team security was paramount when she came to Las Vegas, considering how much she knew about that necessity in the NBA.

"We've hired security to travel with us full time, every event that we have," Hammon said on a media call Tuesday. "The No. 1 priority for me is their safety. We want to make sure that as they're moving in and out of cities, they're taken care of."

What have been the other major reasons WNBA players want charters?

Philippou: Players have taken to social media over the years to document travel horror stories, whether it be delayed flights, spending the night in airports, long travel days, or something in between. In addition to comfort, security and reducing wear-and-tear, chartering should significantly save teams time and energy as they travel to and from games. Some markets, such as Connecticut, are notoriously difficult to get to (Uncasville is an hour from the Hartford-area airport, and it's difficult to get a direct flight to many destinations). Travel hiccups will still occur, of course, but chartering should significantly reduce some of those issues.

Pelton: Travel was one of the main areas where the WNBA lagged elite college basketball programs in providing for players. While the notion that players are taking a pay cut because WNBA salaries are lower than their potential off-court NIL income in college is folly because those endorsements typically carry over, it is true that college stars are accustomed to flying charter between games, making commercial air travel as a pro a shock to the system.

Voepel: One thing some people don't understand is that colleges have Title IX obligations regarding women's programs. If they are chartering for men's teams, they have to balance that for women's teams. It's completely different for a business like the WNBA that is profit-based. There are no Title IX regulations. The only thing that determines amenities for pro teams is, "Can they afford it?"

WNBA to begin full-time charter flights this season, commissioner says

The New York Liberty had a 13-hour travel day that included multiple bus rides, two commercial flights and time spent at three airports to get from Connecticut to Las Vegas. The wear-and-tear on their bodies is one reason players are lobbying for charter flights.

The WNBA plans to commit $50 million over the next two years to provide full-time charter flight service for its teams during the season, the league’s commissioner announced Tuesday in a move that addresses years of player safety concerns .

Commissioner Cathy Engelbert said in a meeting with sports editors that the league will launch a charter program “as soon as we can get planes in places.” She said it’s projected to cost around $25 million per year for the next two seasons.

That means no more long security lines, bodyguards in public spaces, cramped legroom or layovers for the professional athletes who have been lobbying for better travel long before Caitlin Clark’s celebrity brought newfound interest to the league.

Most importantly, Lynx forward Napheesa Collier says, it means safety for the players.

“All these players and these faces are becoming so popular that it really is about that as much as it as about recovery,” Collier said, noting how last season Brittney Griner was harassed by what the WNBA called a “provocateur” while traveling commercial.

The WNBA already had announced plans to once again pay for charter flights for the entire playoffs as well as for back-to-back games during the upcoming season. The league introduced that program last year, spending about $4 million on charter flights. Engelbert said at the time the league needed to be in the right financial position to do full-time charter flights.

The WNBA has never been more popular thanks to rookies like Clark , who helped the NCAA reach its best viewership in history for women’s basketball, with nearly 19 million fans watching the title game, along with Angel Reese who went to the Met Gala on Monday night and Cameron Brink.

Minnesota coach Cheryl Reeve said it’s not business as usual anymore: It’s time for the league, franchises and women’s sports to be innovative.

“We’ve had moments in the league,” Reeve said, calling the current momentum a tsunami. “But this is clearly a movement. And if you think it’s not, you’re going to get left behind.”

Clark attracted attention walking through the airport with her new Indiana Fever teammates for a preseason game with the Dallas Wings last week. That exhibition sold out with fans lined up eager to get inside.

WNBA teams also have been moving games against Clark and Indiana to bigger arenas because of increased demand. The defending champion Las Vegas Aces became the first WNBA team to sell out allotted season tickets back in March after leading the league in attendance in 2023.

Flights have been an ongoing issue for the WNBA that only increased last year when the league began working with the Phoenix Mercury and Griner after the All-Star center’s 10-month detainment in Russia.

The league hadn’t allowed teams to use charter flights except for when they had back-to-back games.

That forced players like Breanna Stewart, the 6-foot-4 forward for the New York Liberty, to squeeze past fellow travelers on commercial flights to fit into her assigned window seat. WNBA players also had to not only retrieve their own luggage but endure travel days that could stretch 13 hours with delays.

Charter flights will allow WNBA players to go through private air terminals straight to buses or their own cars when returning home. Avoiding layovers also will help with recovery between games, which is even more crucial with this season’s schedule around the Olympics.

WNBA coaches and players were waiting Tuesday for details about the charter flights.

Stewart spoke to reporters via Zoom just before the commissioner spoke in New York. Stewart shared on social media an airplane emoji with a question mark to the attention of the WNBA’s account.

Las Vegas coach Becky Hammon, whose Aces already had security in place to protect players, knows what will make everyone ecstatic.

“Everybody’s very happy they’re not going to have to stand in security lines as much, or as long,” Hammon said.

Two-time WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson, who now has an endorsement deal with Gatorade, said the growth of the women’s game has been a “whirlwind” that was just a matter of time. Wilson said it’s up to the players and teams to put the best product on the court with so many people watching now.

“That’s what continues to bring more eyes and more people and more investors, and then we end up with charter flights, and then things are going off and people are spinning off, and now we’re having a great time,” Wilson said.
