Here’s the eye-popping money each player made at the Tour Championship

How incredible is the Tour Championship money this year? Just ask Rory McIlroy.

The FedEx Cup Playoffs bonuses were designed to reward the PGA Tour’s top players for a full season of achievement, and one look at the Tour Championship payout structure makes it clear just how lucrative it is to make it to the Tour’s top 30.

Take Sahith Theegala , for instance.

‘The fact that I’m even on the PGA Tour is pretty absurd’: Pro opens up after making Tour Championship

The 24-year-old PGA Tour rookie had an incredible first season on Tour. No wins, but enough close calls and top 10s to earn his way into the Tour Championship. Even a 28th-place (next to last) finish on Sunday will garner $520,000 (Will Zalatoris will claim the $500,000 30th-plaze prize after an injury forced him to withdraw from the BMW and Tour Championships) — that’s a tidy 16 percent of his current season-earnings total of $3.12 million.

While that pales in comparison to Rory McIlroy’s $18 million that you were reminded about so often on the broadcast, it’s no chump change.

And then, of course, there’s Scottie Scheffler. The FedEx Cup’s No. 1 seed has already banked a record-breaking sum of earnings this year, with a whopping $14.04 million. While he came up short on Sunday, he and Sungjae Im split the second and third-place bonuses for a cool $5.75 million.

And it’s not too bad for the rest of the field too as every player who finishes in the top 10 will walk away with seven figures. Pretty nice haul!

You can check out a complete breakdown of how much money every player made at the 2022 Tour Championship below.

2023 Tour Championship purse, prize money: Payout for Viktor Hovland, every golfer in FedEx Cup Playoffs final

A big trophy and an even bigger payday is on the line this week as the pga tour postseason comes to a close.

fedex-cup-trophy.jpg

The final payday of the season will arrive in players' bank accounts soon following the 2023 Tour Championship, which concluded Sunday. Competing for the FedEx Cup bonus pool of $75 million, the remaining field of 30 players at East Lake Golf Club tried to make one final splash before calling it an offseason.

Every player who finished inside the top 150 of the FedEx Cup standings will receive some portion of this bonus, but nearly $60 million of it was still up for grabs in Atlanta. A player's career earnings will not technically grow because of his performance in the postseason final, but that doesn't mean the money is not astronomical.

For the second straight year, $18 million was be awarded to the FedEx Cup winner -- Viktor Hovland -- with every player inside the top 10 cashing seven figures. All 30 players enjoyed the luxury of claiming at least $500,000, even if their play resulted in a last-place finish.

Scottie Scheffler was the only man to surpass $18 million in earnings this season, and he was on the cusp of a $40 million year if he won his first FedEx Cup crown. Alas, that did not happen. Hovland, Jon Rahm, Rory Mcilroy, Wyndham Clark, Max Homa and Patrick Cantlay all entered East Lake with at least $10 million already under their belts.

Below is a look at the payouts for each golfer from the field of 30 at the 2023 Tour Championship.

Rick Gehman is joined by Kyle Porter, Patrick McDonald and Greg DuCharme to break down Viktor Hovland's clinical performance at the Tour Championship. He is the 2023 FedEx Cup Champion. Follow & listen to The First Cut on  Apple Podcasts  and  Spotify .

The FedExCup playoffs will conclude at the Tour Championship and for the second straight season, Scottie Scheffler will begin the finale with a two-stroke advantage.

Despite finishing co-runner-up at the BMW Championship, Scheffler is No. 1 in the FedExCup standings. With the staggered scoring system in place, he’ll start at East Lake at 10 under par.

BMW Championship winner Viktor Hovland, who closed in an Olympia Fields course-record 61, is second in points and opens the Tour Championship at 8 under.

Scheffler was in the same position a year ago and built a six-stroke lead through 54 holes, before closing in 75 and tying for second, behind champion Rory McIlroy.

The top 30 in FedExCup points qualified for the event. Matt Fitzpatrick was the lone player to jump inside the cut line, thanks to his play in the second playoff event. His tie for second moved him from 40th to 10th, while Chris Kirk dropped from 29th to 32nd.

There is no official purse at East Lake, but there is a $75 million bonus pool, with $18 million going to the winner.

Starting scores are based on where players stand in FedExCup points following the first two playoff events. Here’s how the field will commence the Tour Championship, along with the full bonus payout.

10 under: Scottie Scheffler

8 under: Viktor Hovland

7 under: Rory McIlroy

6 under: Jon Rahm

5 under: Lucas Glover

TOUR Championship purse: Payout by player, finishing position

Breaking down the TOUR Championship payout and purse to see how much prize money the players win at East Lake in the FedExCup Playoffs finale.

The TOUR Championship has long been the finale of the PGA Tour season but, over the past few years, it’s held an even bigger status as it’s been tied into the FedExCup and, more importantly, the massive amount of prize money that’s involved and goes into the effective purse at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.

Every event prior to the finale factors into the FedExCup standings but those come into play at the start of the last tournament of the year. For instance, Scottie Scheffler entered as the leader in the standings, so he began his tournament at 10-under and in the lead. Thereafter, second place was at 8-under (Patrick Cantlay) and so on until the No. 26-30 players in the standings started at even.

But with a getable golf course at East Lake due to rainy conditions throughout the week, golfers started getting close in Scheffler’s rearview mirror quite rapidly. But after Round 3 was suspended on Saturday, Scheffler came out and built his lead to six strokes to finish the round on Sunday. The question was if Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele or Sungjae Im could make up the ground.

It was set up for a great finish, but just how much money are these guys playing for? Here’s how the purse, prize money and TOUR Championship payout break down under the new format.

TOUR Championship payout by player, finishing position

1. Rory McIlroy – $18 million T2. Scottie Scheffler – $5.75 million T2. Sungjae Im – $5.75 million 4. Xander Schauffele – $4 million T5. Max Homa – $2.75 million T5. Justin Thomas – $2.75 million T7. Sepp Straka – $1.75 million T7. Patrick Cantlay – $1.75 million 9. Tony Finau – $1.25 million 10. Tom Hoge – $1 million T11. Hideki Matsuyama – $925,000 T11. Joaquin Niemann – $925,000 T13. Aaron Wise – $825,000 T13. Jordan Spieth – $825,000 T15. J.T. Poston – $715,000 T15. Viktor Hovland – $715,000 T15. Jon Rahm – $715,000 T15. Matt Fitzpatrick – $715,000 19. Cameron Young – $660,000 20. Cameron Smith – $640,000 T21. Billy Horschel – $600,000 T21. Brian Harman – $600,000 T21. Collin Morikawa – $600,000 24. Sam Burns – $565,000 25. Adam Scott – $550,000 26. Corey Conners – $540,000 27. K.H. Lee – $530,000 28. Sahith Theegala – $520,000 29. Scott Stallings – $510,000 30. Will Zalatoris (WD) – $500,000

Will Zalatoris was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to a back injury suffered at the BMW Championship, meaning he officially slotted in at 30th at East Lake to win $500,000 for his work in the FedExCup this season, but disappointing as he’d have started the week in third and in range for the $18 million.

Even still, the payouts for the TOUR Championship as they’ve been correlated with the FedExCup make it truly wild amounts of money on the line and the pressure of every single shot in Atlanta over four days has to be out of this world. But these are the players who have proven all season to be the best in the world, so it’s no shock that they’d be built for these types of moments.

2024 Insperity Invitational final results: Prize money payout, PGA Tour Champions leaderboard, how much each golfer won

T he 2024 Insperity Invitational final leaderboard is headed by winner Scott Dunlap, who topped the PGA Tour Champions leaderboard this week with a win on the 2024 PGA Tour Champions schedule at The Woodlands Country Club in The Woodlands, Texas.

Dunlap won the tournament after the weather prevented the final round from being played on Sunday. The Tour made the choice to shorten the event to 36 holes, all of which were played on a marathon Saturday.

Dunlap won on 9-under 135, which was better than Stuart Appleby and Joe Durant by a stroke.

Steve Alker and Thongchai Jaidee finished in a tie for fourth place on 7-under total.

Dunlap won the $405,000 winner's share of the $2,000,000 purse.

Insperity Invitational recap notes

Dunlap wins the ninth PGA Tour Champions title of the year, getting into the winner's circle on the 50-plus tour.

The money Dunlap -- and every player in the field -- earned is converted into Charles Schwab Cup points, with every dollar converted into two points during the Charles Schwab Cup playoffs.

There is no cut on PGA Tour Champions-run events, including the major championships they run. Every pro who finished the tournament was paid.

The 2024 PGA Tour Champions schedule continues next week with the Regions Tradition in Alabama.

Rory McIlroy and Nicolai Hojgaard walked away the big winners from this week's DP World Tour Championship. McIlroy won the overall points title for the fifth time while Hojgaard was the winner of the Tour Championship with a 21-under total.

David Cannon

An already memorable 2023 season on the DP World Tour for Nicolai Hojgaard—in which he played in his first Ryder Cup—got even more so on Sunday at the DP World Tour Championship. The 22-year-old Dane closed out the final round at the Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai with a eight-under 64 to charge past overnight leader Matt Wallace and claim victory with a 21-under 267 performance, two shots better than Wallace, Tommy Fleetwood and Viktor Hovland.

Hojgaard’s victory is the third of his career on the DP World Tour but his most lucrative. The first-place prize money payout was worth $3 million from an overall purse of $10.5 million. The payday from Sunday (€2,764,461 in Euros) amounts to more than 40 percent his entire career earnings to date on the DP World Tour (€6,380,134.75).

Here's the prize money payout for each golfer who competed in the DP World Tour’s season finale.
