The boat tour is GREAT with Jerry and Tony! And that's where I give this guided tour a three star review. With that said, the city bus is definitely not up to par with what you typically get with the company. Very disappointed with the bus part. It was slow, infrequent and didn't have a ton of information. Overall, unless you're interested in the boat tour I wouldn't recommend.

Photo of Vicki F.

I waited 40 minutes in the cold for this bus, watching numerous other "hop-on, hop-off" buses go by. I messaged the company from their website with no response. I later found out the bus only picks up once an hour after the first stop. This information is well-hidden on their website (in a drop-down box) but it clearly says "free cancellation," so I gave up waiting and e-mailed them for a refund. They refused, stating I should have known the schedule ahead of time. There are no conditions given on the website for cancellation except "24 hours ahead of the service." My ticket is good for one year, and I never started the service. I filed a dispute with PayPal. The buses you want in Dublin are the "Big Bus Tours" (red) or the "Do Dublin" (green) buses that pick up every 15 minutes or so. Avoid this company.

Photo of Juan E.

Unreliable pick-up times exceeding :45 minutes. Their competitor, BigBus, consistently picking up every :15-:20 minutes. Wasted time waiting for pick-ups and unable to plan the day with any reliability. Waste of money ‼

Photo of Derek G.

I would not recommend this busy because out of the many options for transportation, this one is the least available and takes times exceeding 45 minutes. Both other tour bus companies are reliable, have many buses, and come around every 15 minutes. Not worth the 72 hour ticket we purchased when it takes 71 hours for one bus to come around.

Photo of J B.

We had Ross as our tour guide on the bus. He made our tour fun and informative. He was so much better than the recording riders usually listens to. We enjoyed learning about the sites and getting on and off when we wanted.

Photo of Randy M.

If zero or minus was possible I would give it -5. My family and I sat at St. Patricks Cathedral for 45 minutes watching both the other hop on hop off bus companies pick up At least 3 times each. Ok made it to Guinness Storehouse and been wait more than 30 minutes again watching other hop on hop of busses go by. Made a whopping 2 stops today. Have reservations at two more stops on cruise and will be canceling reservations service is so slow. We made end up taking a taxi back to train station.

Photo of Kathleen T.

Good idea, but be warned that this can be difficult. We used it on a bank holiday. All was good in the morning-very pleasant, helpful driver! In the afternoon, however, we waited over 45 minuets at the Gaol. The driver took time on the 'stand-only' packed bus, to argue with someone over the wait time. ("It couldn't have been THAT long!") He said there were delays both before & after us. After finally getting seats up top, we continually listened to the poor, vexed driver argue with riders who were overly loud. We finally escaped that & caught another bus.

We escaped the overcrowded nightmare!

We escaped the overcrowded nightmare!

My sister and I purchased a 48-hour "Hop on/Hop off" tour while visiting Dublin and would both highly recommend. It was so convenient to have free transportation, friendly guides, and learn more about the history and current happenings of the city. There are two separate routes although they mostly hit the same attractions (one has a couple of extra spots). Some of the buses have multilingual recordings that you can listen to with headphones. I was very surprised at how affordable the tours were, including more lengthy options such as Giant's Causeway and the Cliffs of Moher. I'd definitely encourage you to take advantage of the various tours available to get the most out of your stay! (4 stars only because one of the buses broke down at Trinity College, and it took a good while for a replacement to arrive. Otherwise, two thumbs up.)

Photo of Kristin C.

If you visit Dublin, this is the way to go. This bus tour hits every single site you might want to visit in the city. And it is unlimited trips within a 24 or 48 hour period. A 48 hour ticket also gives you a free walking tour and several discounts throughout the city. The first day we arrived, we rode the entire route just to get a good view of the city and the layout. It is a double-decker bus so the top level is also perfect for photo ops. Our favorite driver during the two days we spent there was Declan. He was outstanding and so friendly and full of information. The stops are throughout the city so it is easy to hop off and back on wherever you like. Highly recommend!!!

Photo of Jae K.

We've taken this tour in numerous cities and this one has a unique touch. Rather than listening to pre-recorded information, the driver shares history with local humor. I strongly recommend this tour. We are also trying out the night tour which comes free with a 2-day pass. On a side note, I lost my wallet with all my cash (saved for the remainder of my trip). The wonderful driver turned it in and my faith in humanity is restored! (She declined the tip, but I gave it anyways). I love the people here and this tour is excellent.

I just wanted to update this post in the event that others may want the info. I contacted the visitors center on Suffolk Street with my query but they never responded. I then contacted several tour operators and was told that they do sell their tours at the visitors center so .....there are several tour companies that do offer their tours for purchase at the Suffolk St. visitors center. I know that tours can be purchased online prior but the less sensitive info I have out there, the better.

Sorry for the lack of response, but this year has been busy, busy.

Booking your day tour at the office is fine, as long as you don't mind the risk of finding that day's tour sold out. You have a good chance of snagging a tour seat at the Suffolk location, as for several tours, it is their first tour pick up spot.

Could you use a prepaid Visa to prebook tours, and keep your info separate?

I arrive on Saturday and don't plan on taking the tours until the following Wed. and Thurs. I also plan on purchasing my tours when I arrive that Saturday morning. I'll be going mid September. I did already arrange a day tour to Wicklow with Wild Mountain Heather tours, which I've had lovely correspondence with. They are allowing me to pay the day of the tour but have already reserved the date. Thanks for the replies.

Molly Malone statue wheeled away to make way for Luas

Famous bronze sculpture undergoing ‘makeover’ before being reinstalled at new location.

The Molly Malone statue is moving to a temporary home outside the tourist office on nearby Suffolk Street. Video: Darragh Bambrick

World famous statue Molly Malone was hoisted away with her wheelbarrow from Grafton Street last night to make way for the cross-city Luas project.

The iconic bronze sculpture is undergoing a’makeover’ getting repairs and cleaning by a bronze specialist for next six weeks.

Gráinne Mackin, director of communications for Luas cross-city project, said initially the plan was to move Molly and her wheelbarrow separately.

The new location Molly Malone will move to after she is finished her repairs. Google maps.

“We thought we’d have to do it in two pieces but we managed to do the two together,” she said.

Ms Mackin said the statue was moved onto the back of a flat-bed truck about 12.30 this morning.

“The lift went very smoothly. We’re hoping to have her back by mid-June,” she said.

More than 20 people were involved in the move, which included conservation, bronzing, lifting and transport specialists.

Ms Mackin said it was an opportunity for restore the statue from natural wear and tear from being exposed to the elements since 1988.

She said moving the plinth could take up to a week.

When she returns, she will have a temporary home outside the tourist office in the former St Andrew’s Church on nearby Suffolk Street.

The Luas project, due to be finished in 2017, is an extension of the Green line that will link with the Red services.

The 5.6km line from St Stephen’s Green to Broombridge in Cabra.

Molly Malone

tourist office suffolk street

  • Free to visit

As well as being known and sung internationally, the popular song 'Cockles and Mussels' has become a sort of unofficial anthem of Dublin City. The song's tragic heroine Molly Malone and her barrow have come to stand as one of the most familiar symbols of the capital.

Molly Malone worked as a fishmonger but also as a working girl and died in one of the outbreaks of Cholera that regularly used to sweep the city of Dublin.

The statue of Molly and her cart is affectionately nicknamed 'The Tart with the Cart' by Dubliners'.

We arrive in Dublin on a very late flight and would like to do a particular day trip the next day so it would be best to be quite close so we can walk to the meeting point.

Normally we prefer quaint B&Bs and inns but we would stay in a larger hotel if need be.

Any suggestions

This one is a short walk.
