SC Elite is a Girls’ Fastpitch Softball Travel organization established in 2012.  We currently offer 10U, 12U, 14U, & 18U teams.  The goals of SC Elite are to help young girls grow individually, learn to be a part of a team and to develop friendships.  Our long term goal is to prepare the girls to play softball at the high school level and beyond.   SC Elite is a member of the Western Reserve Fastpitch League.  We play other local travel teams and participate in several local tournaments throughout the season.

On the Road With Ohio Softball Travel Teams

In Ohio, young softball players really show their love for the game by being part of travel teams. They go all over the state and sometimes across the country to play in big tournaments. Being on a travel team is all about playing sports and going on trips. The players have to handle tough games and figure out how to get to each event.

This experience helps them get better at softball and brings the team closer together because they go through good times and hard times as a group. Let’s take a closer look at what life is like for these travel teams.

We’ll talk about the important equipment they need for away games, how they stay united as a team, and how traveling affects their growth as softball players in Ohio’s exciting softball community.

The Life of a Softball Nomad

Softball players on Ohio’s travel teams have a busy summer, playing in more than thirty tournaments. They’re like modern-day nomads, always on the move for the next game. These athletes, with their families and coaches, head from one field to another, ready to meet the challenges of tough competition.

Every tournament is not just a bunch of games; it’s a mix of careful planning, skill, and team spirit. Traveling for softball teaches these players important life skills like how to be strong in the face of challenges and how to quickly adapt to new situations. They learn to work well under stress, build strong friendships with their teammates, and balance the sport with schoolwork and their own personal development.

This lifestyle requires good discipline and the ability to manage time well, especially when they have to fit in homework and practice. For example, a player might use a planner or scheduling app to make sure they’re staying on top of their school assignments while also dedicating enough time to improve their batting or pitching skills. This kind of discipline will help them not just in softball, but in all areas of life.

Safety gear is also a must—batting helmets, gloves, and face masks keep players safe while they play hard. Bats and balls are chosen carefully for practice, making sure they’re the right weight and size.

Finally, players pack their bags with water bottles, healthy snacks, a first-aid kit, and sunscreen to be ready for any situation on the road.

Neobaseball: , northeast ohio youth baseball & softball.

Neobaseball, Ltd. (dba NeoSoftball) is a youth baseball and softball league for 4-yr-old to 17-yr-old players located in Northeast Ohio (Portage, Summit, Stark, Mahoning, & Trumbull County).

We are based out of Randolph Township, so we are centralized in the Akron/Canton/Youngstown region.

Our goal is to always operate as well-organized and fun baseball & softball league, and have fair and balanced competition for all our teams and players.

We offer spring local rec baseball , spring travel baseball , and fall ball for both rec and select youth baseball teams in Northeast Ohio.

Youth girls coach-pitch and fastpitch softball is available for both the spring and fall seasons in 2024.

$425 league entry fee to include a 12-16 game regular season with an end of the session tournament. League fees require a $200 deposit to save a spot, with balance due on the second week of play. 

$35 per team per game to include one umpire and two Victory Sports Park softballs.

Admissions Policy

$3.00 admission fee applies to all patrons over the age of 12.  There is no non-residency fee at Victory Park Ohio. Discounts for Senior Citizens, Military, Police and Fire.

NWO LADY BUCKEYES

The Northwest Ohio Lady Buckeyes is a Non-Profit Traveling Fastpitch Softball program that has been organized to promote the development of athletic, social, and life skills of girls between the ages of ten to eighteen. The program administration and coaching staff are comprised of all volunteers, many of whom are parents. The Northwest Ohio Lady Buckeyes Strive to field competitive teams comprised of between ten to thirteen girls per team. Each team will practice and participate in Four to six sanctioned tournaments each season. The sanctioning bodies that we are associated with are as follows:

USFA United States Fastpitch Association

USSSA United States Specialty Sports Association

NSA National Softball Association

The playing season for our organization is conducted in the months of May through August. We participate in sanctioned tournaments in the states of Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida and West Virginia .

Each member of our coaching staff and administration devotes between four to six hundred man/hours per year to the organization. We are funded through player registration fees and fundraising activities throughout the year.

Our overall goal for this program is to not only give a place and an opportunity for young ladies to play a game that we all love so much ,but to also help them learn the needed Social and teamworking skills to make them healthy, happy and Productive adults while gaining lasting memories for their future.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Who is the best softball infielder in Northeast Ohio? We’re turning to you to gauge that.

Tuesday continues a three-part series looking at the area’s best softball players in a seven-county area that includes Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage and Summit counties. A breakdown of the top pitchers posted Monday, while the top outfielders also will be released on Tuesday.

⦁ Devan Adams, Strongsville, sr., 3B: Adams had been headed to Notre Dame College before that school announced it was closing its doors. Adams is a captain for the Mustangs.

⦁ Sydney Becks, Tallmadge, sr., 3B: Becks hit .585 with 23 runs and 13 RBI to pace the OHSAA Division II state champions.

⦁ Juliana Benjamin, Rocky River, sr., 1B: Benjamin made the All-Great Lakes Conference second team last season while batting .367 with 23 RBI.

⦁ Brae Boguski, Padua, jr., SS: Boguski led the Bruins last year in home runs and RBI. She also batted .430.

⦁ Hannah Brooks, Elyria Catholic, jr., SS/3B: Brooks batted .630 with 15 home runs and 56 RBI as a sophomore for the Panthers. She made the All-Lorain County first team in Division II and named its player of the year.

⦁ Madison Burkhart, Coventry, sr., 1B/RHP: Burkhart batted .500 with nine home runs and 43 RBI as a junior. She also finished 11-1 with a 1.91 ERA.

⦁ McKenzie Collinsworth, Green, sr., 1B: Collinsworth is the lone returning starter for the Bulldogs, who won a Federal League title last year.

⦁ Izzy Coode, Mentor, sr., 2B: A two-time All-Greater Cleveland Conference selection, Coode is a John Carroll commit.

⦁ Breckyn Daniel, Berea-Midpark, sr., 1B/P: Bound for Baldwin Wallace, Daniel can play first base and pitch for the Titans, who sat atop the Cuyahoga County Softball Coaches Association power rankings for the first two weeks of the season. Last year, she hit .380 with four home runs and 24 RBI.

⦁ Jordan Desmone, Olmsted Falls, sr., CIF: Desmone hit .387 and made the All-Southwestern Conference second team as a junior.

⦁ Mandy DeWitt, Firelands, sr., C/1B/OF: An Ashland recruit, DeWitt is one of the Lorain County League’s top players.

⦁ Savannah Dixon, Elyria Catholic, sr., 1B/3B: Dixon made honorable mention All-Ohio last year in Division II. She is a Tiffin recruit and batted .483 last year with three home runs, 38 runs and 29 RBI.

⦁ McKenna Dorobek, Amherst, so., SS: As a freshman, Dorobek made the All-Lorain County second team in Division I. She made a big impact with her bat to start this season, including a 3-for-3 day with four RBI and two runs in a 12-2 victory against defending Southwestern Conference co-champion Berea-Midpark. The Comets are now the SWC favorites this season and ranked in the top 10 of the Division I state coaches poll .

⦁ Bri Ensworth, Strongsville, sr., C: A Muskingum University recruit, Ensworth hit .352 last season and has ushered in sophomore left-handed pitcher Emma Hartman for Strongsville.

⦁ Grace Forgach, Berea-Midpark, jr., 3B/SS: A Cleveland State commit, Forgach hit .400 last season with four home runs and a team-high 33 RBI. The Titans not only won a share of the SWC title with North Ridgeville but took their first Division I district championship.

⦁ Megan Forshey, Westlake, sr., SS: Forshey batted .500 last season to pace Westlake, which finished 14-8 and 13-3 in the Great Lakes Conference.

⦁ Abagayle Gray, Cloverleaf, jr., C: Gray made All-Ohio honorable mention last season in Division II with a .363 batting average and 32 RBI.

⦁ Lexi Gray, Tallmadge, sr., C: A returning starter for the defending Division II state champions, Gray hit near the top of the order with a .377 averaged and 23 RBI. She scored 38 times and earned All-Ohio second team.

⦁ Alyssa Hallis, Crestwood, jr., 2B/SS: Hallis batted .343 last season to earn All-Chagrin Valley Conference first team.

⦁ Kayleigh Helm, Crestwood, jr., 1B/3B: Helm made the All-CVC second team, but she hit .426.

⦁ Alyssa Hochstetler, Akron Springfield, sr., 2B: Hochstetler batted .559 with 48 runs last year. She also converted 30-of-30 steals.

⦁ Bella Hunter, Crestwood, sr., SS/P: A shortstop and pitcher for Crestwood, Hunter hit .523 last year. She also posted an 8-5 record in the circle with a 2.41 ERA.

⦁ Emi Jeras, Riverside, jr., C: Jeras hit .477 with 17 RBI last year in helping Riverside to 21 victories.

⦁ Tori Kakos, Strongsville, sr., SS: Kakos hit .368 last year for a Strongsville team that brings back four senior who have started since their freshman season.

⦁ Angela Kale, Kenston, sr., 1B: Kale batted .500 last year with six home runs and 35 RBI.

⦁ Paige Kelley, Revere, jr., SS: A Ball State recruit, Kelley hit .613 last year with 30 steals.

⦁ Olivia Kidd, Mogadore, sr., C: A multiple time All-Ohio selection in Division IV, Kidd batted .642 last season with 32 RBI in the Wildcats’ run to a district crown.

⦁ Mackenzie Kilpeck, Chardon, sr., C : Kipleck’s defense has been a staple for Chardon, which won 21 games last year with her behind the plate.

⦁ Larken Koran, Nordonia, jr., UT: Koran made the Suburban League first team last season as a utility player.

⦁ Avarie Mays, St. Vincent-St. Mary, jr., 1B/3B: Mays batted .418 as a sophomore in helping the Fighting Irish to a district title. She’s kept it up this season, batting .538 in a four-game stretch during a spring break trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C.

⦁ McKayla McGee, Walsh Jesuit, jr., 1B/SS/RHP: An Akron commit, McGee stepped into the circle last year and pitched Walsh Jesuit to the Division I regional finals.

⦁ Alyssa McPeek, Eastlake North, sr., C: A John Carroll commit, McPeek hit .400 last year with 27 runs and 15 RBI.

⦁ Emma Nagy, Amherst, sr., 1B: Nagy batted .380 last season while earning All-SWC second-team honors.

⦁ Emma Oshel, Stow-Munroe Falls, sr., 1B/3B: A corner infielder, Oshel hit .524 last year with three home runs and 33 RBI. She is headed to the University of Malone.

⦁ Jalyn Owca, Keystone, sr., C: Owca, who also can play third base, scored 27 times as a junior during the Wildcats’ Division III Sweet 16 run. She drove in 25 runs and batted .303.

⦁ Ava Paradise, Gilmour Academy, fr., SS/2B: Paradise set Gilmour’s stolen-base record on April 24 with two in a victory against Youngstown Ursuline, giving her 16 on the season.

⦁ Ella Polomsky, Padua, sr., C: An All-GLC second-team pick last year, Polomsky batted .347 for Padua.

⦁ Maddi Proud, Riverside, fr., 3B: Entering this season, Proud was expected to hit in the No. 3 spot for Riverside.

⦁ Brielle Raus, North Royalton, jr., C: Raus has been a key presence in the Bears’ lineup since her freshman season.

⦁ Giulia Scaglione, Archbishop Hoban, sr., 3B: Scaglione is one of just two returning starters with fellow senior Taylor Gerring in the outfield for Hoban, which won 16 games last season.

⦁ Caleigh Shaulis, Walsh Jesuit, jr., C: Not only can Shaulis catch, but she can play the outfield or first base for the Warriors. Shaulis committed to Kent State in December.

⦁ Summer Solitaria, Magnificat, sr., C: A Cleveland State commit, Solitaria established herself as one of the area’s top hitters early in her career. So far this season, she is hitting .535 with two home runs and 17 RBI, plus six stolen bases and a 1.445 OPS.

⦁ Leslie Sullivan, Lutheran West, sr.: Bound for Oberlin College, Sullivan is a versatile senior for the Longhorns as their starting right-handed pitcher and a utility fielder with a specialty for the hot corner at third base.

⦁ Sienna Tepley, Walsh Jesuit, sr., 3B: A second-team All-Ohio selection last year in Division I, Tepley is an Army recruit and a fourth-year starter for the Warriors. She batted .481 with a team-high 31 runs as a junior. Tepley also converted all 15 of her steal attempts.

⦁ Lily Tomasheski, Midview, sr., 1B/3B: Also a volleyball standout for the Middies, Tomasheski has brought a big bat this season with four RBI in a loss to SWC favorite Amherst and seven RBI in a win against defending conference co-champion Berea-Midpark early this season.

⦁ Kloie Troutman, Elyria, sr., 3B: Headed to Ganon, Troutman also is Elyria leading scorer in basketball.

⦁ Faith Vlcek, Brunswick, sr., SS: Vlcek is headed to Bowling Green after this season. She helped the Blue Devils to a 16-9 record last season.

⦁ Ally Williams, Berea-Midpark, jr., C: A Bowling Green recruit, Williams hit .494 last season with 17 doubles and 21 RBI. She also stole six bases.

⦁ Jill Yakovic, Nordonia, sr., INF: An honorable mention pick last year in the Suburban League, Yakovic is a four-year starter.

⦁ Helena Yanchar, Hawken, sr., SS: Yanchar paced the Hawks as a junior with a .476 batting average, 22 RBI and 35 runs.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Who is the best baseball pitcher in Northeast Ohio? We’re turning to you to gauge that.

Wednesday begins a three-part series looking at the area’s best baseball players in a seven-county area that includes Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage and Summit counties. Look out for infielders and outfielders on Thursday.

⦁ Bridger Bischof, Kenston, sr.: A left-handed pitcher, Bischof is one of a few returning arms for coach Joe Hritz and the defending OHSAA Division II state champions. Bischof compiled a 2.17 earned-run average during that 2023 run. At the plate, he batted .281.

⦁ Hayden Blosser, Avon Lake, sr.: Initially a Michigan commit, Blosser flipped to Ohio State last year after striking out 48 hitters in 33 1/3 innings. He is a right-handed pitcher.

⦁ Lucas Brandt, Hawken, sr.: A three-sport athlete at Hawken, Brandt also plays shortstop in addition to being the Hawks’ ace after only being able to DH last season. He was 6-1 with a 0.36 ERA as a sophomore. As a junior, he stole 18 bases.

⦁ Landan Browning, Archbishop Hoban, sr.: A Dayton commit, Browning also can play first base for coach Derek Carmichael and the Knights, who are coming off a run to the Division I regionals.

⦁ Owen Cavey, Medina, sr.: An Ashland recruit, Cavey is a left-handed ace for the Bees and plays first base.

⦁ Jimmy Cerha, Kenston, sr.: An Ohio University recruit, Cerha batted .268 and finished with a 2.78 ERA while helping the Bombers to last year’s Division II state title.

⦁ Ben Chinchar, North Ridgeville, jr.: In North Ridgeville’s 11-1 start, Chinchar picked up four wins. He also led a 4-2 victory last week vs. St. Ignatius.

⦁ Ben Farson, Valley Forge, sr.: The Patriots’ ace also can play the outfield. He is a multisport standout and the leading rusher on the football team.

⦁ Jude Fisher, Strongsville, jr.: As a sophomore, Fischer had 63 strikeouts in 56.1 innings. He compiled a 9-2 record with a 1.74 ERA and can play the outfield. Fischer batted .312 last year with 21 runs and 27 RBI.

⦁ Will Graham, Chagrin Falls, sr.: As a junior, Graham made the All-Chagrin Valley Conference first team and All-Northeast District second team. He finished 4-2 with a 0.77 ERA, only five earned runs in 45.1 innings. He also struck out 70.

⦁ Nate Hinkle, Normandy, sr.: A left-handed pitcher, Hinkle also plays the outfield for the Invaders.

⦁ Lucas Kaltenbach, Kenston, jr.: Also the quarterback of the football team, Kaltenbach compiled a 3.72 ERA and hit .333 last year for the Bombers.

⦁ Andrew Karhoff, Archbishop Hoban, jr.: An Ohio State commit, Karhoff brings a big bat and right arm to a talented Hoban squad that should push St. Ignatius and Walsh Jesuit for a spot in Akron at Canal Park for the state final four. Karhoff is a right-handed pitcher and first baseman for the Knights.

⦁ Noah LaFine, Archbishop Hoban, sr.: LaFine committed to Vanderbilt as a freshman and has remained bound to join the Commodores. He’s played in two state title games and won one title for the Knights, who bring back another loaded squad.

⦁ Harper Lann, Walsh Jesuit, jr.: A Miami (Ohio) recruit, Lann finished 3-0 with a 0.55 ERA during Walsh Jesuit’s run to last year’s Division I state semifinals.

⦁ Matthew Large, St. Vincent-St. Mary, jr.: Through the first 16 games, Large leads STVM with 34 strikeouts. He also has yielded just six walks and is 4-0 with a 2.55 ERA.

⦁ Brandon Lurie, Orange, sr.: A team captain, Lurie finished his junior year with a 2.16 ERA and 37 strikeouts to nine walks in 42 innings. He also can play the infield.

⦁ Jake McCartney, Mentor, jr.: A Youngstown State commit, McCartney pitches and plays first base.

⦁ Max McClellan, St. Edward, sr.: A South Carolina commit, McClellan also was a starter on the basketball team. He made Prep Baseball Report’s preseason All-Ohio team in Division I.

⦁ Brock Miller, Keystone, sr.: Last year’s Lorain County Division III Player of the Year, Miller is headed to Tri-C next year. He hit .440 at the plate, also playing shortstop, and finished 5-2 on the mound with 78 strikeouts.

⦁ Aaron Moss, University School, jr.: Moss can play shortstop in addition to pitch. The righty delivered the Preppers five wins on the road to the Division I regional finals. He also struck out 34 with eight walks in 40 innings. At the plate, he had a .283 average with 14 RBI and 11 runs.

⦁ Deacon Nelson, University School, so.: A Virginia commit, Nelson hit .392 with 33 RBI and 33 runs in helping the Preppers to the Division I regional finals. On the mound, he had 24 strikeouts in 20 innings with two wins and two saves.

⦁ Gannon Padgett, North Ridgeville, so.: As a sophomore, Padgett hit .268 at the plate and had four saves to help North Ridgeville to the Southwestern Conference title. He pitches and plays the outfield.

⦁ Lucas Palange, Padua, jr.: Also an infielder, Palange made honorable mention All-Northeast District as a sophomore.

⦁ Brody Papay, Avon, jr.: A left-hander, Papay is committed to Wright State. He had a 3.28 ERA in 32 innings as a sophomore.

⦁ Jason Pentek, Perry, sr.: A third-year starter and captain, Pentek had a 2.23 ERA. The righty also plays the infield.

⦁ Luke Reasor, Brecksville-Broadview Heights, sr.: A Purdue recruit, Reasor also can play the outfield and is a southpaw. He’s been a three-sport standout for Brecksville, playing football and coming off the bench for the basketball team, too.

⦁ Thomas Rossi, Rocky River: A fourth-year starter, Rossi is off to a 3-0 start on the mound for his senior season with a 1.09 ERA.

⦁ Jacob Sanders, Columbia, sr.: As a junior, Sanders made the first team for his all-conference, county and district teams. He’s a right-handed pitcher and shortstop.

⦁ Brady Sasse, North Royalton, sr.: Sasse contributed mightily as a sophomore in the Bears’ regional run. He made PBR’s preseason All-Ohio team in Division I and is a Toledo recruit.

⦁ Finn Schmitt, Wadsworth, sr.: A big 6-foot-6 righty, Schmidt is headed to Malone. He helped Wadsworth to a Division I regional run and another Suburban League title last year.

⦁ Owen Shinada, Twinsburg, jr.: An Indiana commit, Shinada can throw in the upper 80s and lower 90s with a 6-foot-1 frame. He also plays second base.

⦁ Henry Slaby, St. Edward, sr.: Slaby is an Eastern Michigan recruit. He had 74 strikeouts last year in 50 innings with a 1.96 ERA.

⦁ Tyler Slone, St. Vincent-St. Mary, jr.: Slone is 3-0 with a 1.40 ERA and 28 strikeouts to six walks in his first four appearances this season.

⦁ Sawyer Solitaria, St. Ignatius, sr.: Considered one of the top two-way players in the state, Solitaria batted .402 with two home runs and 25 RBI. On the mound, he struck out 46 in 34 innings with a 1.14 ERA. Solitaria, who can play the corner infield in addition to pitch, is headed to Kent State. He comes from a family of sluggers with sister Summer Solitaria of Magnificat committed to Cleveland State.

⦁ Shawn Sullivan, Walsh Jesuit, so.: An Alabama commit, Sullivan waited last year behind the Warriors’ big arms and now has his turn for a bigger role after pitching 14.2 innings with 25 strikeouts, seven walks and a 1.90 ERA.

⦁ Danny Surdy, Bay, sr.: The Rockets won a district title last year with Surdy on the mound as a junior. He is a 6-2 righty who also plays the outfield.

⦁ Hunter Winston, Highland, sr.: A 6-4 southpaw, Winston is committed to Ohio University. He also can play the outfield.

High school softball: south’s summer bliss raises money for k9 unit with each home run.

Summer Bliss’ softball game is going to the dogs.

A junior catcher at South, Bliss is in the midst of a charity drive where she is donating $25 for every home run she hits to the Willoughby Police Dept. K9 Foundation that benefits police dogs.

Between the high school season last year and the travel ball season as a member of the Ohio Hurricanes, Bliss hammered 14 home runs. She presented the Willoughby Police Dept. with a check for $350 earlier this week.

“It’s a good and worthwhile effort to give back to them and help protect our community,” Bliss said. “Giving back and supporting the K9 unit is nice, and yeah, I love dogs.”

Bliss presented officer Brandon Zinner and K9 officer Rex with the check and posed for pictures with the four-legged officer before heading home to spend time with her two K9 friends, Meatball (a pitbull) and Stark (a black lab).

Bliss said her efforts to raise money for the K9 foundation will continue during the current high school season and through summer ball for the foreseeable future. She nearly added $50 to her efforts in an April 24 game against North, but two opposite field shots caromed off the right-field fence rather than going over for a home run.

She said her charity efforts have not and won’t change her swing.

“When I am up to bat, I just want to put the bat on the ball,” she said. “If a home run happens, it happens. That means I’m helping my team. But I’m not going up there just trying to hit home runs.”

Rusty Bliss beams with pride over his daughter’s contributions, even though the money comes out of his pocket. He said he has “no problem” supporting his daughter’s ambitions to help the Willoughby Police Dept. K9 Unit by cutting the checks — even if he might hear a cash register ringing every time his daughter swings.

“I’m so proud of her that she does this,” Rusty Bliss said. “I don’t have a problem writing the check for something like that. It means a lot to her. It means a lot to us.

“We love those dogs. They do great things. The job they do is great, but it breaks your heart when you hear of them doing their job and making the ultimate sacrifice (by dying in the line of duty). So this endeavor is important to us.”

Three-Peat Complete! No. 10 Softball Wins UAA Title with Doubleheader Sweep

The 10th-ranked Case Western Reserve University softball team captured its third consecutive University Athletic Association Championship with a doubleheader sweep over Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday at Mather Park in Cleveland, defeating CMU 12-3 in game one and 9-0 in game two with both contests lasting five innings.

The Spartans improved to 31-5 on the season and 16-3 in conference play, while the Tartans fell to 15-18 overall and 8-11 in the UAA. Leading second-place WashU by one and half games entering play on Saturday, CWRU needed two wins and a loss by the Bears to clinch the outright championship. With a loss by WashU in the second game of its doubleheader against Emory, the doubleheader sweep clinched the third consecutive conference championship for the Spartans. CWRU also won three consecutive UAA titles from 1997-99, and the team was a tri-champion in 2015.

Sophomore  Elizabeth Berry  and senior  KaiLi Gross  each collected six runs batted in across the two games, and junior  Isabella Russo  drove in five runs in the second game. Russo, Gross, and senior  Kaila Nutter  all hit home runs in the doubleheader.

Game 1: #10 CWRU 12, Carnegie Mellon 3 (5 inn.)

The Tartans loaded the bases in the first inning, but junior pitcher  Kylie Hosey  induced a flyout to keep the visitors off the board.

In the bottom of the frame, CWRU scored a pair of runs to take the lead. With two runners in scoring position, Berry delivered a run-scoring single to break the deadlock. She then stole second, and Gross scored from third on the throw.

The Spartans added four more runs in the next inning. Gross drew a bases loaded walk for the first run, and senior  Stevie Rieger  brought in a run with a sacrifice fly. Berry then drove in her second and third runs of the game with a single to make the score 6-0.

CMU scored in the next frame, plating a run on a one-out double.

Gross slugged her second career grand slam in the third inning, putting the Spartans up nine. The home run, her team-leading seventh of the season and the 21st of her career, followed three consecutive Spartan walks.

Nutter hit her second home run in as many games in the following frame, extending the Spartan lead to 11. It was her second roundtripper of the season and the second of her career.

Hosey earned the win in the circle to improve to 12-1 on the season. She pitched three innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out two. Sophomore  Devanghi Misra  completed the game, giving up two runs on one hit with two strikeouts.

Game 2: #10 CWRU 9, Carnegie Mellon 0 (5 inn.)

After the first three batters reached for CWRU, Berry drove in a pair of runs with a double to open the scoring. Junior  Isabella Russo  followed with a three-run home run, her first of the season, to make the score 5-0 after just five batters stepped to the plate.

Gross extended the lead with a run-scoring double and crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Berry to make the score 7-0. Russo added a run with a double, collecting her fourth run batted in within the first two innings, and set a career high with her fifth RBI in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly to put the Spartans up nine.

The Tartans were held scoreless in the fifth inning to wrap up the doubleheader.

Junior  Lexi Miskey  earned the win in the circle, throwing three shutout innings while allowing only one hit, to improve to 18-3. She struck out four to increase her season total to 160, the fourth most in program history, and career total to 526, five away from matching the program record. Senior  Jenna Jaklich  completed the shutout with two scoreless innings, allowing two hits while striking out two.

The shutout was the fifth of the season for the Spartan pitching staff and the team's second in conference play.

The Spartans and Tartans will conclude their series with a single game tomorrow, scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Prior to the contest, CWRU will celebrate its eight graduating members as part of Senior Day.
