For an adrenaline-fueled ski winter vacation in Florida , Orlando will be your favorite destination. It is also called the “ Theme Park Capital of the World ”. Just know that Orland attracts 51 million tourists every year.

There’s nothing better than visiting the Sunshine State. There are hundreds of miles of beautiful beaches, springs, museums, theme parks, and bustling cities to visit. Florida is famous for having “beach weather” all year, but does it truly have perfect weather all the time?

Planning according to the weather can ensure you have the best time on your vacation if you’re thinking about when you’ll visit Florida. When looking at which months to visit Florida, February is probably on your list. 

Before you book your dream vacation to Florida, look at everything you need to know about the Florida weather in February. 

Average Temperatures in Florida in February

The main thing you need to know about the weather in February in the Sunshine State is that temperatures are cooler than in other months of the year. While temperatures are colder, it still feels nice out for most people.

You’ll find different temperatures depending on where you visit in Florida. Generally, the highs stay in the high 70s and the lows between the 50s and 60s. Some areas dip into the 40s, though.

January is Florida’s dryest month of the year, and February isn’t much different. Besides occasional rain, you won’t need to worry about excessive rain ruining your plans. 

The average total rainfall in February is 4.8 inches, much lower than the average in July, which is over 7 inches. The approximate average rainfall in major Florida cities is:

It’s no secret that the Florida humidity is killer and is at its worst in the summer months. With cooler temperatures across the state in February, the humidity is generally lower in this month than in others. Here’s a look at average humidity levels in some major Florida cities:

• Jacksonville: 70%
• Key West: 74%

Most people head to Florida to enjoy the beaches and the beautiful waters of the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. Usually, the Gulf of Mexico is warmer than the Atlantic Ocean, so if you’re sensitive to cooler water temperatures, a beach getaway on the west coast of Florida is a better idea. 

The average Eastern Gulf of Mexico temperature in February is around 60°F. This can get colder the further north you move and slightly warmer the further south you go. Most people in Florida believe the swimming season ends in December, but if you prefer colder waters, you might enjoy the Gulf waters at this time of year. 

As for Florida’s Atlantic coast, you’ll see even chillier water temperatures. It’s not much colder than the Gulf, with an average temperature of 55°F. As with the other coast, the further north you go, the colder, and the further south, the warmer.

While you might not think these temperatures are too cold to swim, temperatures under 50°F are considered frigid waters and can lead to cold shock . It’s always better to be careful before getting into colder waters.

Knowing the UV index is good to know when visiting Florida, regardless of the time of year. Since it’s situated closer to the equator than other states, you’ll need to know how dangerous the sun’s rays are before you head outside. Even though it’s cooler in February, that doesn’t mean the sun’s rays aren’t powerful and can’t cause harm. 

The average daily maximum UV index that Florida experiences in February is six. A six on the UV scale still means a high vulnerability to the sun’s rays, but it’s lower than in the summer. 

Regardless of what outdoor activities you’ll be participating in during your trip to Florida, if you’re visiting in February, you’ll still want to apply sunscreen before you step outside. Remember, even if it doesn’t feel hot out, it doesn’t mean that the sun’s rays can’t hurt you, and nothing will put a damper on your trip like a painful sunburn.

Florida in February might be the prettiest month of the year to visit if you are basing your trip on the weather.

People from all over the world escape their snow-filled homes and come to Florida for sunny, yet dry and cool weather that is extremely mild.

Growing up in Florida, I never realized how lucky I was to have sunny weather in the mid-70s in February. Now that I am older and have traveled to northern states during February I now realize just how lucky I was!

Is February a good time to visit Florida?

February is a great time of the year to visit Florida. Some may argue that it may be the best month to travel to Florida. The weather in Florida is some of the mildest and most pleasant weather in the entire country during February.

Festivals, markets, and events are in full swing as locals try and take advantage of the dry, sunny weather before summer begins, bringing with it the regular afternoon thunderstorms.

It is also one of the most popular months to travel to Florida. You may see a small spike in spring break tourists towards the end of the month, but the real swarm of college kids, and young kids with parents typically doesn’t begin until March.

If you tend to avoid crowds when you travel, February might not be the best month for you to visit Florida. The beaches tend to be packed with northern residents seeking relief from a blustery winter.

Florida Weather in February?

If you visit Florida in February, you will enjoy the perfect weather for boating, exploring parks, and sunbathing at the beach. During the daytime, it is typically dry, mild, warm, and sunny. At night, it is still dry, if not drier, and the temperature cools down a little bit.

Nighttime in February offers the perfect kind of weather to have a fire on the beach. Many beaches require that you purchase a low-cost permit in advance to have a fire. So, be sure to do your research before setting anything ablaze. It’s not miserably hot and humid like other months in Florida.

Florida is a very long state. Therefore, your location within the state largely affects the climate that you will experience.

For instance, if you visit Tallahassee in the northwest corner of the state, the average low temperature in February is 42°F (6°C). However, Key West , the southernmost city in the state, has an average low temperature of 66°F (19°C).

What is the Rainfall in February?

February is typically one of the driest months of the year, and storms are infrequent. The probability of it raining in Florida during February is 29%.

The further north you are in the state, the more likely you will experience rain. The southern side of the state is typically much more mild and dry. Cities across Florida have rainfall ranging from 1.3 inches to 5 inches, with an average of 2.4 inches statewide. The average amount of daily sunshine in February is eight hours per day.

If you aren’t a fan of rain or thunderstorms, February is a great month for you to visit Florida. The lack of rainfall during February is another reason that boating and watersports are so popular during February. Each year, February tends to get warmer and warmer. However, the rainfall has been becoming less and less.

What is the heat and humidity in Florida in February?

The average high temperature in Florida in February is 77°F (25°C). During the day, it is typically pleasant, sunny, and mild. However, it tends to cool down during the nighttime.

Florida’s weather seems to transition to spring weather throughout February. Therefore, the later in the month that you decide to visit, the warmer the weather will be. Humidity is rather low during February. It is typically more humid in the morning than in the afternoon.

In the morning the humidity ranges from 80% to 88% across Florida. In the afternoon the humidity ranges from 49% to 56%, except for Key West which has an average low of 67%. This is a considerably low humidity percentage for Florida. February is one of the least humid months of the year to come to Florida.

Water temperature?

In the Gulf of Mexico, off the western coast of Florida, the water temperature ranges from 50°F to 60°F (10°C to 20°C). This is one of the coldest months of the year in the Gulf of Mexico, although it is still some of the warmest weather in the country during February.

The water temperature in the Atlantic Ocean off of the eastern coast of Florida varies depending on how far south you are in the state. In the northern end of the state, the average water temperature ranges from 59°F to 63°F (15°C to 17°C).

However, in the southern end of the state, the average water temperature ranges from 70°F to 72°F (21°C to 22°C). Coming from the northern states, this water feels comparably warm to back home. Although, it is one of the coldest months of the year to go in the ocean.

What are the best things to do in Florida in February?

Because the weather is so beautiful in February, you really can’t go wrong with what you put on your itinerary for your trip to Florida. I still have some suggestions in case you need a little inspiration.

If you would like to treat your special someone to a trip, you might be interested in booking a Valentine’s Day vacation to one of Florida’s luxurious hotels. Although it is a rather expensive stay, the Little Palm Island Resort & Spa is the best option in the whole state. This is a separate island located south of Key West.

If you are looking for something slightly less expensive, although still extravagant, the Four Seasons in Orlando offers a lovely Valentine’s Day spa package.

Other fantastic options for your trip down to Florida include scuba diving in the Florida Keys, visiting Busch Gardens or Universal Studios theme park, and getting your heart racing on some rollercoaster rides.

Will it be hot in Florida in February?

It is not hot in Florida during February, but it is sunny and warm. It tends to cool down a bit at night. It’s the perfect kind of weather for hanging out on the beach or going for a boat ride.

It’s warm and pleasant, but you won’t be melting because of the heat and humidity, unlike the summer months in Florida. Although, February does seem to be getting warmer over time. In 2023, Florida had ground-breaking high temperatures. Twenty out of the twenty-eight days in the month saw a high temperature of 80°F (27°C) or above.

It was one of the hottest February’s in Florida’s history. However, February 2018 still holds the record for the hottest February in Florida history.

The further south you go in Florida, the warmer the weather will be. So, it’s no surprise that Key West, Florida’s southernmost city, is the warmest place to visit in February. If you are looking for something a little different, most cities in southern Florida will have warm temperatures similar to Key West’s temperature.

Key West is known for having pretty consistent weather. They often boast that they have no seasons, just summer all year long. The water temperature in Key West is also typically the warmest in the state during February.

So, if you’re hoping to fill your trip with swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, and other water sports but you’re sensitive to colder water, Key West is a great place for you to visit. It also tends to be one of the busiest months of the year for tourism in Key West, so be sure to keep that in mind while making arrangements.

What are some other warm cities to visit in Florida in February?

Most cities in southern Florida will also have warm weather and warm water temperatures, especially compared to the rest of the country. Any of the Keys north of Key West are typically very close temperature to Key West, with Key Largo being the coolest out of all of them.

Other great options to visit in southern Florida on the east coast include Miami. Miami Beach, Biscayne Key, Jupiter, Fort Lauderdale, and Boca Raton. Again, the further north you go the cooler it gets so Key Biscayne, Miami, and Miami Beach will likely be the warmest options on the east coast.

If you are hoping to explore Florida’s west coast, there aren’t too many options as the Everglades covers a large portion of southwestern Florida. However, Ten Thousand Islands is a string of islands south of Marco Island that are worth checking out, especially if you are a nature lover.

Is February a good time to visit Orlando Florida?

February is arguably one of the best months of the year to visit Orlando. If you’ve visited Orlando in its warmer months, you know how heavy and hot the humidity can become while you’re in the middle of the state. February is much cooler and drier, so you won’t get burnt out too quickly.

February also provides great weather for visiting the theme parks. If theme parks aren’t your thing, it’s also perfect weather to go zip lining, horseback riding, ATV rides, airboat rides, fishing, and so much more.  You will also encounter a slightly less crowded Orlando if you decide to visit in February.

The holiday months, October through December tend to be the busiest months of the year. By the time February rolls around the tourism industry has slowed down quite a bit. Temperatures typically range from the low to mid-70s, and the chance of rain is very low.

Is February a good time to visit Universal & Disney?

February is a fantastic time of year to visit the theme parks. As I said above, out-of-state tourism typically slows down after the main holiday season is over. This allows you to enjoy some cool theme parks without having to fight your way through large crowds with families that have screaming children.

The Mardi Gras celebration at Universal Studios begins in February and is a wonderful experience. I remember my first time visiting Universal when I was a little girl was during their Mardi Gras celebration and I was blown away. It feels like you’ve teleported to New Orleans.

Epcot also hosts an International Festival of the Arts. This festival includes a range of three different types of art: visual, culinary, and performing arts.

Is February a good time to visit the Florida Keys?

The Florida Keys are the most popular place in Florida to visit in February. The weather and water are warm and mild, and people from all over the country flock to the keys to escape their aggressive winters back home.

You will find some of the warmest weather and water in the Florida Keys out of the entire country during February. The Florida Keys might be the only place you can snorkel in February without needing a wetsuit.

You will also see fewer crowds if you visit in February, as the craze during the holiday season has come to an end. It is still a bit more pricey to visit the Florida Keys during February compared to the summer months, but November-December and March-April are the busiest and most expensive months of the year.

Is February a good time to visit the Everglades?

Due to the cooler temperatures and lower humidity levels, February is an awesome month of the year to visit the Everglades. The skies are usually a little more clear in February.

So, if you are planning a camping trip, make sure to sneak away from the lights to catch a glimpse of the night sky littered with bright constellations. Backcountry camping permits cost $21 in addition to $2 per person per night, this does not include the fee to the park, which is $30 per vehicle, or $15 per person if you are on foot.

Campsite costs range from $33 to $60 depending on the number of people in your party, the type of vehicles, and whether or not there is an electrical hook-up. If you’d truly like to be immersed in Florida wildlife, you can rent a houseboat on Whitewater Bay, and get to see the sunset over the water every night if you’d like.

Depending on what type of traveler you are, February may either be a great month to visit Sarasota, or tiresome and unpleasant. The weather in Sarasota during February is beautiful.

It is sunny and breezy, and thunderstorms are rare. However, this gorgeous weather attracts a lot of Northerners referred to as “snowbirds”. Snowbirds are people who live up North but spend their winters in Florida. It is often a second home. Snowbirds also tend to be older and retired.

This can cause backups in traffic and crowds throughout the city. Prices are typically slightly higher between December through February.

The weather just might be worth the crowds and elevated prices. February has an average high temperature of 74°F (23°C) and an average low of 55°F  (13°C). The average rainfall for February is only 2.6 inches (6.6 centimeters), with most of its days being sunny and breezy.

Is February a good time to visit Tampa?

Similar to Sarasota, Tampa is a great place to visit in February if you are basing your trip on the weather. Although, February also happens to be one of the busiest and most expensive times of the year to visit February.

There’s no shortage of activities in February, no matter what your interests are. There is an aquarium, amusement park, pirate ship, zoo, and tons of luxury retail stores and restaurants.

You can also visit historic Ybor City to see the wild roosters and enjoy authentic Cuban cuisine. If wild nightlife is your kind of entertainment, visit Ybor City for the party of your life.

Tampa is also just a short drive or Uber to the beach, where you can sunbathe along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. The Florida State Fair is also held in Tampa in February if you’d like to feast on carnival food and test the strength of your stomach on carnival rides.

What other part of Florida should I visit in February?

The weather is beautiful across the whole state of Florida during February, but some gems are worth a visit. Daytona is a diverse city with a variety of activities.

The Daytona 500 is held in February, which is a 500-mile-long NASCAR Cup Series race held every year and attracts viewers from all over the world. Another great choice for a February trip is Cape Canaveral, particularly if you’re interested in space and science.

It is home to the Kennedy Space Center, Air Force Space and Missile History Center, and NASA’s launching center for rockets. If you’re looking for a laid-back, “island-time” sort of vacation, Atlantic Beach, located north of Jacksonville Beach would be a great destination for you.

You can enjoy fresh seafood, beach vibes, and big beautiful beaches that aren’t quite as crowded as Jacksonville Beach. 

What activities or events are held in Florida in February?

Events happen across Florida because of how pleasant the weather is. I’ve chosen two events across Florida in February that I think are worth the detour, and they also all happen to be free.

Florida’s strawberries are delicious red morsels. Learn more about them at the Melbourne Strawberry Fest, held February 17th-18th in Wickham Park,  Melbourne. The fest is a gathering consisting of strawberry shortcakes, pony rides, a pie-eating contest, delicious food vendors, and tons of Florida strawberries.

The Seawalk Music Festival is held on February 24th-25th in Jacksonville and features many local musicians. The festival is family-friendly, but not pet-friendly and there are VIP tickets available for purchase.

Is February a good time to see manatees?

During the winter time, the manatees tend to flock towards Florida’s freshwater springs located around Central Florida, as they stay 72°F (22°C) all year round, which is usually warmer than most other coastal cities during the middle of winter. Crystal River is a popular spot to search for manatees at the springs.

The peak season for getting to check out manatees there is November through April. The months of the year that have the highest population of manatees are December through February. If you aren’t able to make it to Central Florida and happen to be further south or north, you still have a chance at seeing the manatees.

If you go to your nearest power plant that is located on the water, the warm water generated from the plant will attract manatees in search of relief from cold winter water.

What to pack and wear in February when visiting Florida?

Even though it is the middle of winter, you will mostly need shorts, tank tops, t-shirts, flip-flops, and sneakers, as it can get pretty sunny and warm during the daytime.

Although, be sure to bring a jacket and a pair of pants or two because it cools down considerably at night. Even if you think that the temperature of the ocean is too cold for you, I would recommend still bringing a bathing suit because most hotel pools are heated.

I like to wear a large, wide-brimmed straw hat to protect my face and shoulders from the sun. Speaking of the sun, it is important to put on sunblock daily, you can still get burned in cooler weather and the sky is typically clear and sunny in February.

How does February fare for hotel rates?

Florida’s high season is from mid-December through mid-April. This is because those are the coldest months of the year around the country, and the snowbirds flock down to Florida to escape the frigid temperatures.

Locals tend to call this time “snowbird season”. Therefore, February is not the most cost-effective month to visit Florida, It is one of the most expensive months of the year because everyone is trying to enjoy the beautiful, mild weather.

Siesta Key truly feels like paradise with its white sand beaches and cool gulf breezes coming off the coast. This is the place to go if you are looking to disconnect and unwind with a book by the water. The locals are friendly and they have great restaurants, along with the pristine beaches. If you are looking for something different than Disney and the crowds of some other locations, this is the place for you. It is a perfect vacation spot for a family or a couple. 

Daytona Beach

Daytona Beach is known for its beaches and race tracks. As most people know, the iconic NASCAR race takes place here every February. This is a destination for the fun loving crowd, including spring breakers. Daytona is a big beach party with perfect warm weather year round. There are also cultural attractions, a fun boardwalk with rides and an arcade, snorkeling and other water sports. 

Palm Beach is an upscale town with surprisingly affordable prices for vacationing. They have so many things to do here including the pristine beaches, the eye candy of the ultra rich estates, tons of high-end shopping, restaurants and art galleries. This island also offers award winning golf courses for those looking for a break from the beach, sporting events and antique shows. 

Sarasota offers lots of attractions beyond beaches. They have well known art museums, like the Ringling Museum of Art as well as, science aquariums and museums, adventure boat rides and beautiful botanical gardens. They also have a fun nightlife and are a gateway to the Keys, so there is also easy access to beautiful beaches. 

Fort Lauderdale

There are so many things to do in sunny Fort Lauderdale. There is lots of history here to learn about, along with exploring the beautiful beaches and wildlife of the lagoons.

West Palm Beach is one of my more recent favorite places in Florida, due to its stunning clear water and proximity to Peanut Island .

For anyone who wants Caribbean-like islands near Florida ‘s mainland or access to convenient city-amenities, West Palm Beach may be for you.

Located on the east coast of Florida , expect highs around 76 degrees. This fun Florida locale is easily one of the warmest places in Florida in February. 

West Palm Beach also offers trendy shopping opportunities on Clematis Street and plenty of lush green golf courses and resorts. Those looking for a more cultural experience will love the Norton Museum of Art, which exhibits notable artworks from around the world.

For anyone who wants a true beach escape, take the cheap ferry ride and go snorkel Peanut Island or just lounge on the sand in the sunshine.

2. Everglades National Park

Average temperature in February: 73 F high, 65 F low

While I spend most of my time visiting the national parks in the southwest , Everglades National Park is probably my favorite national park on the east side of the country.

First, the wildlife! The alligators are incredible to observe, either from dry land or on an airboat ride . And second, the lush green surroundings are so vastly different than my California deserts that I can’t get enough.

The most popular time to visit this 1.5 million-acre park is in the wintertime, due to the low humidity, comfortable weather, and fewer insects. Winter also brings higher chances of spotting wildlife in the Everglades, like alligators, manatees , and leatherback turtles.

Visiting Tampa, Florida in February is a great way to beat the winter blues and enjoy some much-needed sunshine! With an average high of 76 degrees, it’s the perfect temperature for taking a leisurely stroll along the waterfront or exploring downtown Tampa.

With sunny days and clear skies, the weather is perfect for outdoor activities like snorkeling, kayaking, diving, and fishing. And, all of these can be easily found in Key West.

The islands that make up Key West have plenty of attractions to explore. And, the Keys are one of the warmest places in Florida in February for swimming.

A visit to the Key West Aquarium features a variety of sea life from the Caribbean Sea and Florida Keys. Attractions like The Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum, Southernmost Point Buoy, Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park, and Mallory Square Dock provide an interesting look into the history of Key West.

A whopping 1,700 islands make up the Florida Keys, some of the closest islands to Florida ‘s mainland. 882 of them are charted and 30 are inhabited. Some islands can be reached by car, and others require a ferry ride. Dry Tortugas National Park is a must see.

With average daily highs of 75 degrees Fahrenheit, and lows around 54 degrees, you’ll be able to enjoy beautiful sunny days and a refreshing chill at night.

Most people visit Orlando to visit the oh-so-famous Disney World. The great news is, you’ll escape the crowds by visiting Disney World in February, as it’s still their low season after the winter break crowds. The shorter queue times means that you can pack even more rides and adventures into your visit.

Since Orlando is landlocked, there are no beaches to explore here. But if you really want some February beach time, you can head to Cocoa Beach or Crescent Beach.

6. Fort Myers

Average temperature in February: 76 F high, 58 F low

While Fort Myers is one of the warmest places in Florida in February, it is also considered the hottest city in Florida overall! Summer temperatures average around 85 degrees F and be forewarned – the humidity can feel rough in summer.

The highest temperature on record in Fort Myers sat at a sizzling 103 ºF. Yet, the lowest cold temperature on record was a chilly 26 ºF.

I’ve only recently spent time exploring Fort Meyers Florida, but it quickly proved to be one of the best places to visit in Florida. The vibrant culture, unique beaches, and amazing restaurants make this a great place to explore.

Miami is one of Florida’s most famous places year-round, and is undoubtedly one of the best warm places to visit in Florida in February, with temperatures regularly reaching as high as 77 degrees Fahrenheit.

South Beach in Miami is a well-known celebrity hotspot and a beautiful beach on the Atlantic Coast. It remains busy even in February, so there is lots of great people watching to be had.

More active visitors can engage in a snorkeling session, rent a jet ski, or take a sunset cruise. If you’re a fishing fan, there are many deep-sea fishing charters on offer, as well.

If you’d rather stay on dry land, check out the excellent shopping opportunities on Ocean Drive, where you can also view the art deco architecture and grab an herbal tea at one of the many outdoor cafes.

8. Jacksonville

Jacksonville Beach is also one of the warmest Florida beaches in February. While the ideal swimming season in Jacksonville runs from April to November, you’ll likely see a few brave souls swim the Atlantic even in February.

Due to the year-round warmth, Jacksonville is a great place to visit even in the winter, whether to hit the beach for water sports, lounge on the sand, or play a round of golf.

February is a great time to check out some of Tallahassee’s outdoor attractions, like Wakulla Springs State Park – a personal favorite – for some of the most beautiful natural swimming holes in the area.

Another great outdoor option is exploring the Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park. This park features stunning gardens, walking and biking trails, and even a lake where visitors can swim and canoe in the summer months.

If you’d rathe explore the city, one popular museum to visit in Tallahassee is the Museum of Florida History. It offers educational exhibits about (you guessed it) the state’s history through interactive displays and artifacts.

11. Fort Lauderdale

With average highs of 76 degrees in February, Fort Lauderdale is one of the warmest places to visit in Florida in February.

This tourist haven has wide, white sandy beaches and is perfect for beach volleyball or watersports. Try your hand at paddleboarding or kayaking if you’re feeling adventurous.

Plus, Fort Lauderdale is close enough to Miami that you can easily visit both, should you want to see a bit more of what Florida has to offer.

Fort Lauderdale has more to offer than sandy beaches, though. Walk along Las Olas Blvd and explore the galleries and boutiques, or go fishing for mahi-mahi in the Atlantic.

Fort Lauderdale is also home to many historic sites and fantastic museums and cultural centers, all of which provide an interesting peek into this unique city’s past and present.

12. Hollywood

My first visit to Hollywood, Florida was during a spring break in college. I was stunned by the shimmering, clear waters and in awe of the presence of Florida’s manatees in the waters – this was the first time I had seen them.

Some things that you can expect of Hollywood, Florida in February are wonderful weather, laid-back beach vibes, and lots of exciting activities like fishing and jet skiing that all ages can enjoy.

The main attraction here is the Hollywood Boardwalk, a two-mile strip of tasty restaurants, trendy shops and live entertainment.

One of my favorite spots to explore is the famous Salvador Dali Museum, which is home to the second-largest collection of Dali’s art in the world. Dali’s art is pretty accessible, even for those not always interested in art museums on their travels.

Florida is the perfect escape destination for cold-climate residents looking for a winter getaway. Compared to most parts of the U.S., Florida is practically balmy in February, especially on the beaches of the southern coast. With mild weather and sunny beaches, it's not surprising that February is considered the high season for travel to Florida. However, when you're in need of a little winter sunshine, that extra cost might be worth it.

Peak Beach Season in Florida: We realize many visitors will be coming to Florida with one thing in mind: getting to the beach! It’s nearly impossible to come to Florida without considering where you’ll be beaching on vacay, especially if you’re coming from a landlocked area. And because Florida is literally the warmest state in the country, there’s almost no bad time to go to the beach. However, March seems to be peak season for the beaches will everyone coming down here for Spring Break.

If we had to choose, we’d suggest going when there are fewer people and optimal temperatures. The best months for going to the beach in Florida are April, May and November. At this point in the year, there may be a moderate crowd, but you’ll be getting some of the best wind and water temperatures. In the Winter, the ocean breeze and waters can be quite cold for swimming and in the Summer months you have very high chances of hurricanes, tropical storms and daily rain showers that could ruin your plans.

Peak Theme Park Crowds in Florida: It’s shocking that theme park high seasons don’t necessarily follow the peak and slow seasons of Florida’s tourist crowds. We base our theme park volume on Walt Disney World, which is the vacation capital of the world and the place that most vacationers will be headed upon arrival in Orlando. However, Universal Studios, Busch Gardens, Sea World and Legoland are all in close proximity and will fluctuate similarly.

Despite rainy weather being at it’s worst, most crowds will be at the theme parks in June, July and August. Not only will you be competing with other tourists at this time, but locals are also coming to have fun in droves. Amusement parks will also see an uptick in March for Spring Break and December for Christmas. This leaves the great weather months ripe for the picking with lower ticket and accommodation prices. To take advantage of this, plan to visit Florida’s theme parks during the months of January, February, September or October (can still be hot).

Slow Season in Florida: Florida is a “snowbird” haven, harboring Winter visitors and retirees who either come for extended vacations or who will be here for a full six months before heading back North for the hot months. They often arrive in October and go North in or before May. When they’re here, the state will be noticeably fuller, especially around the holidays and in the Spring when more tourists are here.

The slow season is inevitably the time when few people, even Florida residents, want to be here: Hurricane Season. Hurricane season lasts June through November, but the worst weather tends to be in July, August and September. Not only are these months riddled with daily thunder storms (and the somewhat rare potential hurricane or tornado), but the air is at it’s hottest and muggiest. Most people try to avoid this when vacationing in Florida.

There are many great things to do in Florida at every season throughout the year. It’s one of the best states to visit year-round for it’s warm climate and it’s vast number of things to occupy your time all over the state, so it’s very difficult to objectively rank one season ahead of the others.

If you plan to only go to the beach or even explore the National and State Parks, you may want to consider coming in the Spring or Fall for great weather and water temperatures. If you want to visit Walt Disney World, you’d best come early Fall or late Winter for the best prices. If saving money is your goal, you can’t beat the great rates in the cold month of January or the hot month of September for a Florida vacation.

Our personal favorite things to do in our home state of Florida are going to the beach and heading to the theme parks. With that in mind, we suggest coming for a beach trip in May when the weather is warm and less rainy with fewer people crowding the beach at this time. For a week-long trip to Walt Disney World, we suggest coming in late September for lower crowds and better experiences in the parks.

Ultimately, you as the visitor determine what the best time of year is for going to Florida. The Sunshine State has so many different opportunities available all throughout the year, giving you a huge range of choices for your own vacation.

The answer to this question is somewhat of a challenge, mainly because it depends so much on what makes a good holiday for you.

The best month to visit the keys really is a personal choice that depends on your budget, what you want to do, your tolerance to heat, and whether you prefer things to be quieter or busier.

From November through February the temperatures are not too hot but everything is busier. March through May things are a little hotter and there are a lot of festivals to enjoy.

June through October tend to be the cheapest time to visit the Florida keys but it is very hot. It’s also a little quieter this time too. September and October are also hurricane season in the keys so you need to be more vigilant of the weather.

As you can see the best time to vacation in the Florida Keys is really dependent on the type of holiday you want.

High And Low Season For Key West And The Keys

The high season in the Florida Keys tends to be from Christmas through to mid-April. Christmas in the Florida Keys really is a treat and lots of people go to spend the festive season there. In the spring you will avoid the stormy weather and the many tourists with the best months being April and May. Temperates are hot but bearable ranging from 72-82°F, 22-28°C in April to 86°F, 30°C in May.

Spring is a perfect time for scuba diving and snorkeling too.

July in Key West is all about its famous pie namesake with the Key Lime Festival. The Hemingway Days Festival also takes place in July. Looe Key Reef Resort is host to the Underwater Music Festival.

4th of July celebrations are happening everywhere with the Spirit of Islamorada 4th of July Festival being the main event. There is so much to see and do in Islamorada so stay a while.

If you love the heat you will be rewarded with fewer crowds and tourists during this time. Remember we are still in hurricane season.

The Florida Keys In August

The temperatures in August are the same as in July so both months are hot. It is much more likely to rain in August though so be prepared.

Key West in August is a mecca for lobster fans with the Key West LobsterFest and the Tropical Heat festivals taking place. Marathon is host to Kilts in the Keys which sounds very interesting. There is so much to do in Marathon and it’s a great place to visit.

August in the Florida Keys sees the warmest ocean temperatures making it perfect for swimming and watersports.

The Florida Keys In September

September in the Florida Keys sees the highest rainfall and is the time you are most likely to get a hurricane. The temperate drops a little bringing the average low down to 78°F,26°C so it’s still hot.

The vibe of the Keys tends to change in September with the families leaving and things becoming a little quieter before the winter sun guests arrive. This is the best time to visit the Keys if you want warmer weather but fewer people.

The Florida Keys Birding And Wildlife Festival take place at Big Pine Key. Key West in September hosts Womenfest and the Key West Brew Fest.

The Florida Keys In October

While we are still in hurricane season October sees less rainfall than September. The high temperature drops to 85°F 29°C and the low to 76°F 24°C.

October in Key West is all about Halloween with Fantasy Fest taking up 10 consecutive days. Key West also hosts the Goombay Festival.

Elsewhere the Reef Fest takes place at Key Largo and the Zombie Bike Ride of the Living Dead takes place at Big Pine Key. Big Pine Key and the Lower Keys have so much to offer and are well worth a visit.

October in the Florida Keys is really fun and a great time to visit. You are still in hurricane season though so keep an eye on the weather.

The Florida Keys In November

In November the highs are around 80°F,27°C, and the lows are 72°F 22°C. As the islands get slightly cooler everything tends to slow down and November is quite peaceful and quiet.

Key West in November is home to the Key West Film Festival and the Taste of the Islands takes place in Marathon.

November in the Florida Keys is a perfect time for a romantic getaway as the islands seem to lull a little between the frantic Halloween and Christmas celebration it is wedged between.

The Florida Keys In December

December in the Flordia Keys is quite an experience. It’s the third coldest month and the start of winter. Highs are around 76°F,24°C, and the lows are 67°F,19°C.

Though there will certainly be crowds in February, visiting during peak season also ensures most hotels, trails and roads will be open, which will make accessing all areas of the park more convenient. Visit Trinidad & Tobago in February for its annual Carnival, one of the most essential Caribbean festivals  and a great way to celebrate Black History Month . Held in the capital city of Port of Spain on Trinidad, this two-day celebration includes vibrant parades, steelpan music and re-enactments of historic events such as the Canboulay Riots, when descendants of freed slaves rioted to protect these important expressions of the Black islander experience. When you're ready for some solitude after the celebrations, these two islands offer plenty of spots that allow for quiet reflection, including rainforests, waterfalls, wildlife reserves and secluded beaches.

Just after the holiday hubbub and before spring break crowds, February is a perfect time for a Florida Keys vacation. And as the southernmost point in the U.S., Key West is as close as you can get to the tropics without leaving the country. You'll encounter temps in the mid-70s while you catch up on beach reads or set off on a sunset sail. Country music fans can visit early in the month to attend the Key Western Fest, while those looking for a slow-paced vacation can attend the longstanding Key West Art & Craft Festival at the end of the month.

Come February, low rainfall, comfortable temperatures and a celebratory spirit draw visitors to Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is vibrant year-round, but February festivals like Carnaval Ponceño (one of the Caribbean's oldest celebrations) and Festival del Frío highlight the island's rich culture. This laid-back Pacific Coast beach town is one of Mexico's best kept secrets. Travelers can explore the cobblestone streets of the downtown area one day and relax on the white sands the next. The beautiful beaches and scenic swimming spots are the main draw for Zihua visitors, but the authentic food scene stands out as well. Sample fresh seafood, pozole (which is a hearty soup eaten every Thursday) and local mezcal. Disney says man can't sue over wife's death because he agreed to Disney+ terms of service

Disney is trying to have a widower's wrongful death lawsuit dismissed and sent to arbitration because the man had signed up for a Disney+ account several years ago.

Jeffrey J. Piccolo sued Disney Parks and Resorts in February, months after his wife, Dr. Kanokporn Tangsuan, died after she consumed food containing allergens at a restaurant in Disney World.

Piccolo said in his complaint that he, his wife and his mother went to dinner at Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant at the resort in Orlando, Florida, on Oct. 5. They asked several times whether Tangsuan's allergies could be accommodated, according to the complaint. Despite the server’s having assured them, Tangsuan had a severe allergic reaction and died at a local hospital, the complaint said.

Disney filed court documents in May saying the $50,000 lawsuit should be dismissed and resolved by individual arbitration because of terms Piccolo agreed to when he signed up for a free trial of the streaming service Disney+. The filing also says he accepted the same terms when he used the Walt Disney Parks website to buy tickets.

Lawyers for the company said that users have to select checkboxes that hyperlink to the terms of use, as well as another that says they agreed to the terms. Users cannot select "Agree & Continue" if the boxes are not checked, the filing says.

The filing included a copy of its terms and conditions. A section titled "Disney Terms of Use" says that "any dispute between you and us, except for small claims, is subject to a class action waiver and must be resolved by individual binding arbitration."

A spokesperson for Disney told NBC News: “We are deeply saddened by the family’s loss and understand their grief. Given that this restaurant is neither owned nor operated by Disney, we are merely defending ourselves against the plaintiff’s attorney’s attempt to include us in their lawsuit against the restaurant.”

The company said that its “position in no way affects any wrongful death or other claims the plaintiff may have against the restaurant.” Disney added that arbitration is commonly recognized as quicker and less costly than litigation.

An attorney for Piccolo did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday.

Piccolo's lawyers filed a response early this month, slamming Disney's reasoning for seeking a dismissal as "preposterous." They said he signed up for the Disney+ account on his PlayStation but believe he canceled it during the free trial.

"There is simply no reading of the Disney+ Subscriber Agreement which would support the notion that Mr. Piccolo agreed to arbitrate claims arising from injuries sustained by his wife at a restaurant located on premises owned by a Disney theme park or resort which ultimately led to her death," the attorneys said.

They went on to say that the "notion that terms agreed to by a consumer when creating a Disney+ free trial account would forever bar that consumer’s right to a jury trial in any dispute ... is so outrageously unreasonable and unfair."

His lawyers asked the court not to enforce arbitration.

Piccolo accused the Florida resort and a restaurant of negligence in his wife's death. He said in his complaint that they told the server at Raglan Road that Tangsuan, who was a physician with NYU Langone Health, had severe allergies. The server told the family that the food would be made allergy-free, according to the complaint.

The family ordered their meals and asked again about the food when the dishes came out without "allergen free flags," the complaint says. They were once again assured by the server, it says.

Not long after having eaten, Tangsuan began having trouble breathing, went into a nearby restaurant and collapsed. The complaint says she was having a "severe acute allergic reaction to the food served at Raglan."

Tangsuan used her EpiPen to help stop her allergic reaction while a bystander called 911, the complaint says. Her husband, who had gone back to their hotel room, was unaware of what was happening, it says. When Piccolo called his wife's cellphone, a bystander answered and told him she had been taken to the hospital, according to the complaint. When he arrived, he was told she had died, it says.

A medical examiner’s autopsy report cited in the complaint said Tangsuan died from anaphylaxis and had elevated levels of nut and dairy in her system. Her death was ruled an accident.

The suit, which names the restaurant and Disney Parks and Resorts as defendants, seeks $50,000 in damages.

For the first six months of 2024, the state had an estimated 74.8 million visitors, a 1.4% increase from the first half of 2023.

Gov. Ron DeSantis’ office sent out a news release describing the new totals as the “greatest second-quarter tourism numbers in Florida history.”

Travelers from other parts of the U.S. accounted for 92% of Florida’s second-quarter visitors.

The estimate of 31.5 million domestic travelers was up 1.8% from the second quarter of 2023 and 8.7% higher than in 2019, the last full year before the COVID-19 pandemic slammed into the state.

After a huge drop in tourism early in the pandemic, Florida initially focused on attracting people from other parts of the U.S. before shifting attention to the international market.

Visit Florida, the state’s tourism-marketing agency, on Thursday estimated the state had 2 million travelers from overseas during this year’s second quarter and 739,000 from Canada.

In the second quarter of 2023, the state reported 1.94 million overseas travelers and 767,000 Canadians.

In 2019, overseas travel was at 2.44 million in the second quarter, with another 848,000 Canadians.

“Moving forward, we will continue to leverage our strengths to ensure that Florida remains the top destination for travelers worldwide,” Visit Florida President & CEO Dana Young said in the release from the governor’s office.

Lawmakers included $80 million for Visit Florida in the budget for this fiscal year, which started July 1. Another $5 million was directed to the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association for an in-state tourism marketing campaign.

A study by state economists released in April put the return on investment of Visit Florida around $3.30 for every $1 spent on marketing.

The pandemic knocked the return to 58 cents for every $1 spent, the study said.

F lorida Governor Ron DeSantis announced today that Florida welcomed a record-breaking 34.2 million visitors during the second quarter of 2024, marking a 1.7% increase over the same period in 2023 and setting a new all-time high for second-quarter tourism in the state's history.

"Florida continues to be the top destination for tourists," said Governor DeSantis. "These remarkable numbers are a testament to our commitment to public safety, freedom, and sensible leadership, making the Free State of Florida an even more attractive place to visit."

Florida remains a leader in tourism, drawing 31.5 million domestic visitors in Q2 2024, up 1.8% from last year. International visitation also saw a 1.8% increase, with 2 million overseas travelers and around 739,000 Canadians choosing Florida as their vacation destination.

Key Highlights from VISIT FLORIDA’s Q2 2024 Report:

・A record 34.2 million total visitors in Q2 2024, reflecting a 1.7% increase from Q2 2023. Domestic visitors comprised 92.1% of the total, overseas visitors made up 5.8%, and Canadians represented 2.2%.

・The domestic air/non-air visitor ratio was 38.1%/61.9%, the highest air ratio for a second quarter since 2016.

・Florida airports saw a total of 29.2 million enplanements, up 5% from Q2 2023. Orlando remained the busiest airport with 7.5 million enplanements (+0.9%), followed by Miami at 7.1 million (+9.3%). Panama City (+20.1%) and Tallahassee (+16.6%) had the fastest growth in enplanements.

・Hotel room demand rose by 0.9% compared to Q2 2023.

Rutgers football lands commitment from Florida defensive lineman with strong offer list

Rutgers football has landed its newest member of its 2025 recruiting class.

Jyon Simon, a defensive lineman from Raines High School in Jacksonville, Florida, announced his decision to commit to Greg Schiano and the Scarlet Knights Thursday night.

Rutgers extended its offer in August.

The 6-foot-2, 260-pound Simon is the fifth member of the class and second Florida commitment, joining quarterback Sean Ashenfelder from Creekside High School in St. Augustine.

Simon, who had 77 tackles and nine sacks his junior season, is rated a three-star recruit and the No. 109 overall prospect in Florida, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

He had a strong list of offers that included Texas, Southern California, Auburn, Colorado and Tennessee, among others.

Schiano and defensive coordinator Joe Harasymiak made a visit to see Simon in early February.

Simon's commitment is the second pledge Rutgers has received in as many days.

The Scarlet Knights on Wednesday received a commitment from running back Antwan Raymond , a Montreal native who played at Clearwater Academy International in Florida this past season. Raymond, though, reclassified into the 2024 recruiting class and will officially enroll this summer.

Budget airline to offer nonstop flights to four new destinations at Daytona Beach airport

DAYTONA BEACH — A Utah-based low-cost airline will soon offer year-round twice-a-week nonstop flights at Daytona Beach International Airport to four new destinations .

Breeze Airways announced its plans at a press conference Wednesday morning at the Volusia County-run airport .

It will launch its service to Westchester County (White Plains), New York, on Thursdays and Sundays, beginning Nov. 14.

It will add flights on Thursdays and Sundays beginning Feb. 13, 2025, to and from Hartford, Connecticut, and to and from Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina.

Then it will add flights on Mondays and Fridays beginning Feb. 14, 2025 to and from Providence, Rhode Island.

Cyrus Callum, Volusia County's director of aviation and economic resources, described Breeze's decision to add flights here as "the biggest air service announcement" in the airport's history. "We haven't had one carrier announce four new destinations all at once before," he said in a phone interview.

What is Breeze Airways?

The budget airline was founded in 2018 and began service on its first route (Tampa to Charleston, South Carolina) in 2021. It is based in Cottonwood Heights, Utah (just outside Salt Lake City).

Its founder, CEO David Neeleman, previously was involved in founding four other airlines: JetBlue, WestJet, Morris Air, and Azul Linhas Aereas.

According to its website, Breeze focuses on providing "efficient and affordable flights between secondary airports, bypassing hubs for shorter travel times. Our flights include seamless booking, no change or cancellation fees, up to 24 months of reusable flight credit, and customized flight features, including complimentary family seating, delivered via a sleek and simple app. We make it easy to buy and easy to fly."

Cities that Breeze currently flies out of in Florida include Tampa, Jacksonville, Orlando, Fort Myers, Sarasota-Bradenton, Pensacola, and Vero Beach.

What are its fare options?

Breeze offers four different types of air fares: "No Flex Fare" (no-frills basic fare whose purchasers are the last to be seated); "Nice" (includes a free carry-on item, standard seat, and general boarding); "Nicer" (free carry-on item, one free checked bag, extra leg room, free inflight WiFi, priority boarding); and "Nicest" (one carry-on item, two checked bags, free inflight WiFi, recliner seat, two free checked bags, priority boarding, free inflight snacks and drinks). All options allow one free personal item.

Prices on Breeze flights from Daytona Beach were not available on the airline's website on Tuesday.

Breeze is offering a 35% discount on all roundtrip base fares if purchasedbefore midnight Friday for travel from Aug. 28 through Feb. 4 of next year,and from April 28 through May 13, 2025. What kind of planes will Breeze use here?

Callum said Breeze will use Airbus A220-300s on its flights to and from Daytona Beach. They will be able to seat up to 137 passengers.

Breeze flights will boost travel options at Daytona airport

The addition of the new routes by Breeze will increase the number of destinations airline travelers can fly to from Daytona Beach International Airport to nine, not counting seasonal offerings.

The airport currently offers four flights a day, seven days a week, by both Delta Air Lines (to Atlanta, Georgia), and by American Airlines (to Charlotte, North Carolina).

Low-cost carrier Avelo Airlines currently offers twice-a-week nonstop flights to New Haven, Connecticut.

Avelo recently announced plans to add twice weekly nonstop service to Wilmington, Delaware (a 30-minute drive to Philadelphia), beginning Nov. 7, and to Hartford, Connecticut, starting Nov. 8.

The addition of Breeze could increase Daytona Beach's chances of attracting service to new destinations from other airlines as well, said Joanne Magley, the airport's director of air service, marketing and customer service.

"The more we add airlines, the more other airlines take notice," she said.

Decision hastened by competitor's recent announcement

Callum said Avelo's announcement in July of its plans to add nonstop Daytona Beach-Hartford service took Breeze officials by surprise as they were already in talks about possibly introducing flights to that city from here.

"It created a sense of urgency," he said of Breeze's decision last week to finally agree to add service at Daytona Beach.

Incentives were involved

Daytona Beach International Airport agreed to provide Breeze with "general airport incentives" that include a two-year waiver on the fees the airport typically charges airlines such as landing fees and rent, said Callum.

The airport also pledged to provide marketing assistance to promote the airline's new routes, as well as the possibility of marketing assistance from the Daytona Beach Area Convention & Visitors Bureau.

The amount the CVB would spend on promoting Breeze's new routes has yet to be determined and is subject to approval both from its board as well as from the Volusia County Council.

Were local tax dollars involved?

No, at least not those collected by the county.

Daytona Beach International Airport operates as an "enterprise fund" meaning that its funding comes from revenues it generates on its own from tenants, which include the airlines, car rental companies, and the restaurants and hotels on its property, as well as from state and federal grants (usually for construction projects).

The airport does not use money from ad valorem taxes paid by Volusia County residents.
