The secret to any chic  capsule wardrobe is a go-to pair of  denim —and in the spring and summer, nothing is better than  white jeans . In ecru, ivory, or cream, the closet classic is also a favorite amongst the street style set and It girls alike. What to wear with white jeans.

Do you love white jeans as much as I do? Or are you hesitant when it comes to white jeans because you’re simply not sure what to wear with them or how best to style them? White jeans are certainly a summer staple…but you really can wear them all year round! In this post, I’m sharing 20 outfit ideas for your white jeans (yes…20!). Plus, some of my all-time favorite white jeans, tips on what to look for when you’re buying white jeans, how to take care of them, AND how to transition them from summer to fall. We have a ton of ground to cover here so let’s just dive right in.

White Jeans Tips

Before we get into my favorite white jeans and some stylish outfits, let’s start off with some things to consider when hunting for the perfect pair of white jeans.

I typically size up one size with white jeans. This gives you a bit more breathing room and forgiveness, especially with the premium brands where the denim just doesn’t stretch as much.  A little extra room can be nice. If you are going for a lower price point, sizing up might not be necessary because they will have some stretch!

Fabric Choice

The thickness of the denim matters since white is inherently see-through. With some of the less expensive brands, you want to watch out for paper-thin denim where you can see every lump and bump, panty lines…ALL of it. A thicker denim will keep everything looking more streamlined and covered.

A high rise jean always makes me feel more supported and comfortable but know what rise you prefer. You can find this info in the item description online. Mid-rise is considered anywhere from 8-9” and high-rise is anything above 9”.

When ordering a pair of jeans, make sure you check the size chart ALWAYS. It just saves a lot of time on the backend and you’re less likely to have to deal with returns.

Shoe Choice

You can wear dark shoes with white jeans, but if you want to elongate your frame and look slimmer, a neutral or skin-tone shoe is going to be more flattering in general.

I get a lot of comments from you all about the staining issue with white jeans. Sure, it’s possible to ruin your jeans with crazy stains, but white jeans, in general, are pretty easy to care for, they just require a little extra TLC.

White Whites

If I’m wearing white jeans to dinner, I strategically place a few napkins over the jeans to help avoid stains, but if I do have a stain, I spot treat as soon as I can and then wash in cold with gentle detergent and NEVER put them in the dryer. That’s really the secret to keeping all of your whites super white!

Favorite White Jeans

I get that finding the perfect pair of white jeans can be tricky, so I’m sharing 5 pairs that I happen to love! You’ll see all of these styled in the 20 outfits below, but here’s a little debrief on each…

1. Mother Hustler Ankle Fray Jeans

One of my all-time favorite pairs of white jeans are the Mother Hustler Ankle Fray Jeans . And actually, they’re one of your favorites too since they are a best seller every year. They’re high-rise and have a great weight to them so they’re not at all see-through. The length is perfect on me (I’m 5’4”) and I can wear them with heels, flats, and sneakers…super versatile!

2. DL1961 Cropped Bootcut Jeans

A similar option to the Mother Hustler jeans are the DL1961 Cropped Bootcut Jeans. They don’t have front pockets which streamlines the front since sometimes pockets can add a bit of bulk. These are another pair of universally flattering and versatile jeans.

3. Mother Hustler Roller Skimp Jeans

I also wanted to share a wider-leg pair of white jeans since wide legs are very on trend right now. This pair is called the Mother Hustler Roller Skimp Jeans (where do they come up with these jean names?!) These jeans are SO good. They are a bit longer so I need to wear a 2” heel or platform sneaker with these.

4. Pistola Wide-leg Jeans

This pair of wide-leg jeans by Pistola is going to be the most budget-friendly white jeans but still high quality. I brought these on a recent trip to Europe with me. These are high-rise, have no pockets, are very streamlined, and are also a great length.

5. Maje Jeans

And finally, the last pair is more of a specialty pair of jeans but I had to include them in my favorites roundup! This pair by Maje is actually off-white with gold button detailing down the bottom of the leg. These are just such a gorgeous pair of jeans. So where the other 4 are more traditional and everyday, these are special and unique!

How To Style White Jeans

Now for the fun part! 20 outfit ideas inspired by all of my favorite white jeans listed above. You are going to notice there’s a formula here. For the summer: White Jeans + Top + Sandals or Sneakers. And then in the fall, White Jeans + Blouse or Sweater +Booties. You can use these same formulas over and over again by just mixing up the shoes and top. It’s really that simple!

#1) Printed Blouse

In this look I’m wearing the Pistola jeans I mentioned above with a beautiful, printed Alice + Olivia blouse and See by Chloe platform sneakers. The blouse has such a beautiful print blue that reminds me of the Amalfi coast…it’s so gorgeous, very lightweight, and thin so you’ll stay cool and the details are just stunning.

#2) Striped Top

Here I’m wearing the Mother Fray Ankle Jeans with a blue striped Veronica Beard top. I love the higher, ruffle neckline and ruffle sleeve detail which adds some femininity. On my feet, I’m wearing a pair of super comfortable Veronica Beard wedges.

#3) Cobalt Blue Top

Here I’m wearing the Mother Hustler Ankle Fray Jeans with a beautiful cobalt blue top by Frame. I love this blouse so much and always get compliments when I wear it. I paired it with some comfortable Sam Edelman gold slide sandals that are so perfect for summer.

#4) Elevated T-Shirt

Here’s an elevated tee and white jeans combo. I’m wearing a Veronica Beard puff sleeve ribbed tee with the wider-leg Mother jeans and some rose gold Valentino wedges. This top is both classic and comfortable and is made from a lightweight ribbed knit. It has a split button front which creates more of a subtle V-neck. You can adjust the buttons to get a deeper V if you like. I love the elbow-length sleeves and the banded cuff. I did size down one size to an XS.

#5) Chambray Top

Can you tell I’m really loving blue with white jeans lately?! It’s just such a pretty combination. Sticking with the same Mother Hustler wide-leg jeans, I’m wearing a Frame blue chambray keyhole top that’s both classy and comfortable, and then the same Valentino wedges and pearl earrings from the previous look. The top is super soft (and super on sale!) right now.

#6) Powder Blue Top

Another blue blouse I absolutely had to share is this one by Karen Millen. It is such a beautiful top with its embroidery details and not only would it look amazing with your white jeans, but for a dressier look it will also look fantastic with white trousers (like I’m wearing here) for the office. It has a Victorian neckline, a subtle puff shoulder and blouson sleeve, and covered buttons…you will absolutely love it! It’s getting limited in sizing but this one is similar and I own and love it too!

#7) Drawstring Top

Here’s another blue and white striped top, this one by LNA. It has a few beautiful details I wanted to highlight. There’s a thoughtful and intentional button at the sleeve so it will stay rolled up and it also has a cinched, drawstring hemline almost like a bubble hem so you can wear it out or tucked in the front. It’s a great piece!

#8) Butterfly Top 

Here’s another blouse and white jean combo. This is a printed Alice + Olivia butterfly top with a lovely bold colored print paired with the Mother Hustler jeans and some gold-tone Cult Gaia sandals. I absolutely love this butterfly blouse and while it’s been sold out for a while, I found a few similar options to link below.

This is more of a trendy option because vests are very on-trend right now! This one by Beaufille and is quite fitted. You can wear a little tank underneath or just wear it by itself as a sexier option. I love the white and beige neutral tones together. It’s so luxe, soft, and feminine. I’m wearing the Mother Hustler Roller Skimp jeans with a Marc Jacobs bag and the See by Chloe wedges. The bag has a removable sporty strap so you can wear it as a crossbody, or shoulder bag and it also has a gold chain-link strap so it’s really versatile since it has black, beige, and brown color tones it literally goes with everything.

#10) Off The Shoulder Top

Sticking with another lighter look, here I’m wearing the Mother Roller Skimp leg jeans with a sexy one-shoulder ivory top by Acler. I’ve purchased a few pieces by Acler and I’m a huge fan of this line! I just love this all-neutral monochromatic look with lighter tones.

# 11) White Crochet Sweater

Another all-neutral piece for looking extra chic in your white jeans is this crochet sweater by Aqua from Bloomingdales. What I love about this look is the texture! It just adds a lot of interest and depth. I finished off this outfit with those tried-and-true Sam Edelman double-strap slides you’ve seen in a couple of the looks!

#12) Cardigan Sweater & Tank 

Here’s a really lovely sweater combo set that feels very modern and current. Both the halter and matching cardigan are in this neutral wearable beige tone. Depending on your skin tone, sometimes these beigy colors can wash you out, so you might want to do a bright lip or something to brighten up your face. I’m wearing the same Pistola jeans as the previous look and then added some brown Sam Edelman flat sandals. To transition this look to fall, just swap the sandals for some cute booties. Simple!

#13) Beach Sweater

Here’s a beachy sweater look you can wear with your white jeans. I’m wearing this beautiful neutral-colored crochet sweater from J.Crew with the same Pistola jeans as the last 2 looks. I love how light and lovely this sweater is, it’s super comfortable. A little roomy without being oversized…and it’s affordable too! It also comes in the most gorgeous blue and green if you prefer a pop of color with your white jeans.

#14) Lilac Sweater

Another sweater option I wanted to show you is the sweater by Veronica Beard in this beautiful lavender color. I paired it with white Mother jeans …with the wide leg. I just love the cable knit and crochet elements. Every time I wear this sweater and this color I get so many compliments. If you’re wondering what your colors are…it’s probably the color you get the most compliments when wearing! This sweater would also transition very easily into fall. Just remember white jeans are not relegated to spring and summer only. You really can easily wear them year-round with a blazer, jacket, moto, cardigan, or a sweater like this one and just add a pair of booties.

#15) Pink Lace Top 

Speaking of color…how about pink? Here is a bright pink top by Maje. The photos are making the pink come across as more neon, but it’s actually a really beautiful fuchsia pink. It’s a lace cropped top with buttons down the front and beautiful sleeve details…very pretty! I’m wearing the Mother wide-leg jeans and Valentino wedges.

#16) Striped Pink Top 

Another pink top I wanted to share is this pink and white button-down shirt…also by Maje. It has a puff shoulder and subtle blouson sleeve it’s just a really beautiful blouse with such feminine and pretty details. This may not be your cup of tea, but you can always just look for the same concept in something more classic…without all the puffy details 😉 Linking some options for you below!

#17) Sexy Black One Shoulder Top

Another great go-to with your white jeans is a black top or sweater. This one-shoulder top by French Connection is one example. This one does run small so I suggest sizing up. Black and white is such a chic and lovely combination. I paired it with DL 1961 jeans and some Stuart Weitzman wedges.

#18) Structured Tee

Another great black and white option for you is this Norma Kamali shoulder pad top with the Pistola white jeans and Open Edit black sandals. I love this top so much because it has a strong shoulder. It has built-in shoulder pads, but they aren’t crazy huge. It’s so sleek and structured and it’s fitted without being too fitted. It’s a great year-round top that would be easy to transition into fall/winter…and easy to layer under your coats and jackets.

#19) Cargo Jacket 

This next look is a cargo jacket and white jeans combo featuring those specialty jeans from Maje that I mentioned waaaaay back at the beginning of this post! Here’s where you could easily transition into fall. I’m wearing a Veronica Beard 2-in-1 cargo jacket that is actually one of my favorite purchases so far this year. I love the versatility. You can zip off the bottom to wear it as a cropped jacket or leave it as a longer-line jacket. I really like how the gold buttons on the jacket and on the jeans work together too. I think it’s a super chic look.

#20) Vibrant Floral Blouse

And finally, how about a beautiful red, printed blouse by Farm Rio? In this look, I’m breaking away from the muted color palate and all of the blue blouses to make more of a statement. Farm Rio does such interesting standout prints and the fit and details are so beautiful. This blouse is paper thin, so it keeps you cool in the heat too. Such a gorgeous option to pair with your favorite white jeans.

White Jeans Fit

A mid-rise, straight-leg jeans are your best bet for picking the right fit. Avoid baggy but also too-tight jeans. Skinny white jeans are great, but most women prefer something more classic, like straight-leg ones. Such jeans simply never go out of style .

You can also wear cropped jeans in summer. A pair that ends just two or three inches above the ankle.

Material of White Jeans

White jeans that are too stretchy are not the best choice. Stretches and puckers on white jeans are visible, so check the label for the material. Stick to a higher percentage of cotton, at least 95% and above. When you buy your jeans, check the thickness of the material as well. You certainly don’t want your jeans to be see-through.

So when I came to write this and look for photos it inspired me to get them back out as I remembered how much I loved them. If you’re wondering what to wear with white jeans to change it up, here’s some of my favorite ways to style them for all seasons. Some classic and others more fashion forward. It’s not so much that how to style white jeans is tricky but sometimes how to wear white jeans or getting new ideas is. As they’re not always the most flattering pants. So I’ve also rounded up the best white jeans based off of people’s reviews and ratings. Along with these white jeans outfit ideas for all seasons and occasions.

White jeans outfits are still in style for 2024 and aren’t just for Summer. These are some of my favorite ways to wear them year round to get the most wear out of them. From Summer looks to cozy and warm Fall/Autumn and Winter outfits, I’ve got you covered.

Who makes the best white jeans

It’s not necessarily about the brand but about finding a fit that works for you. As well as the quality of the material. Skinny white jeans can be hard to pull off and wide leg or baggy jeans don’t work with boots. Straight leg styles tend to work with most shoes and are the most versatile. Not to mention the most on trend style to wear right now.

I prefer jeans with a little stretch that aren’t too stiff so they don’t cut in where they shouldn’t. However, when it comes to white jeans 100% cotton or just a small amount of elastane or poly can be a better bet so that the thickness of the material is consistent throughout and you don’t end up with sheerer areas or jeans that look like leggings.

White jeans can also end up see-through around the butt if they’re a skinny fit and/or the material’s too thin. So definitely check your derriere when trying them on.

If you’re not sure whether to get distressed or regular jeans it all just comes down to personal taste and how you want to style them. Distressed or jeans with holes look great with t-shirts and sneakers or flats for a more laid back white jeans outfit. Jeans without holes will always look dressier and create a more classic look.

White jeans are a classic closet staple. They usually make their yearly comeback at the end of May and get stored away after Labor Day. I wear them all year round though! I don’t believe in any of those rules like ‘no white after Labor Day’. I say wear whatever makes you happy and makes you feel confident! So, if you are like me, this is the post for you. Get your white denim out of your closet and learn how to style white jeans with me today.

Why you should consider having white jeans?

Because there are so many ways you can style them! Even though you can’t wear them as much as blue or black jeans without having to wash them, (especially if you are like me and always spill something on yourself LOL), white jeans are elegant, timeless and chic. They are nice to have around for when you want to look extra polished but also wear jeans at the same time. White jeans are comfortable and will never go out of style, so if you invest in a pair today, they will probably last you for years to come.

How many white jeans do you need in your closet?

Just one :)

I always recommend just one for almost any piece because I’m an advocate for minimalist wardrobes . I included white jeans or white pants as a part of my Summer Capsule Wardrobe , but they are not just for Summer. You can wear your white jeans all year round! I can’t say I wore mine for Winter that much when I lived in Chicago, but it wasn’t because I didn’t like them. It was because I work from home and I didn’t have to get dressed everyday. Also, I didn’t go out much when it was cold outside, so there were not many opportunities for me to style my white jeans during Winter. However, keep in mind you will use them for your capsule wardrobe for Fall and for Spring too.

Anyways, the answer is one. You only need one pair of white jeans (or pants – read below).

Don’t like white jeans? Consider white pants!

I’ve mentioned before that I always had a love/hate relationship with white jeans. I love how they look and how stylish they are, BUT I have a big cellulite problem and you can see it through light colored pants and it makes me feel really insecure. And this is just how it is. It doesn’t matter the brand or quality (obviously some are better than others). I had $300 Citizens of Humanity white jeans – the ones you will see in all of these photos – and you could still see my cellulite.

I don’t have white jeans anymore, but not because of that. What happened was that I got those jeans when I was 20+ pounds heavier (as you will see from the photos) and when we started downsizing because our plans of selling everything and traveling full time , I didn’t have space to keep pieces that didn’t fit right. So, I gave them to a friend.

However, last year I got a pair of wide leg white pants and I love them so much! Even though the fabric is lighter and more breathable, they are less see-through because they are wide leg pants! So, my advice if you have a lot of cellulite too and it makes you self-conscious, is to try wide leg pants or wide leg white denim instead. They are much more comfortable and flattering!

Care instructions for white denim pieces

You can wash white denim in the washer with light colors to be safe. I like to use cold water because it’s better for the environment (and your clothes!). Also, if you want your whites to stay nice and bright for longer, add 1/4 cup of baking soda to the washer. This tip applies to all your white pieces.

Don’t put them in the drier or they might shrink. It’s safer to lay them flat and let them dry.

How to wear white jeans- Outfit ideas

Here are some white jeans outfit ideas for you to recreate. My goal is that you feel inspired to create your own version of these looks with things you already have in your closet. I had a bunch of looks to share, so I decided to organize them in different categories based on what I already had.

I hope these looks inspire you to create white denim outfits with pieces you already have in your closet. I encourage you to try that before buying anything new. All you need to do is to take out similar pieces than the ones I’m wearing and try to mix and match some outfits yourself. Even if you see a look with a beige sweater and you don’t have the same color, then try to recreate the look with a different color. Also, don’t forget to use your accessories, they can elevate and transform any ‘basic’ look.

How to style white jeans casually

Styling your white jeans casually is super easy! Just take out of your closet your white sneakers, flat sandals and any casual and comfy pair of shoes. As for the tops, your first option will be T-shirts (any color, graphic or striped) but you can also consider a button down shirt. That’s it! If you want to add a belt, a bag, a jacket for layering, then go for it. White makes mix & matching very easy. You can have fun with colors or keep things neutral. It’s really up to you. Here you have some outfit ideas:

White jeans outfits for Summer

White jeans are perfect for Summer! They are perfect for when you want to look ‘summery’, but also dressed up, but you also don’t want to wear jeans because it’s Summer LOL. You know the feeling? That’s when white denim comes in!

I especially love styling them to go out at night. Whether a date or a girls night out, they look so cute for going out. All you have to do is pair them with a cute cami, sandals and fun earrings. Another thing I like to do is to wear them with an oversized button down shirt, with a bralette underneath. Accessories are very important to elevate any look, so don’t forget to include them when creating your own white denim outfits.

How to style white jeans for the office + Outfit formulas

I don’t work in an office anymore, but when I did, I used to always wear white denim. There’s a couple of outfit formulas I like to follow and you can try them to recreate any of these looks. Remember to use what you already have in your closet. You don’t have to wear exactly what I’m wearing. Create your own version and add your personal touch. That’s how you will learn how to create outfits on your own and not just copy what everyone else is wearing. I promise it’s a skill worth mastering!

Outfit formula #1: White jeans + Button down shirt + Layering piece or Accessories + Pumps or Booties

Outfit formula #2: White jeans + Office appropriate top or shirt + Blazer + Pumps or Booties

How to style white jeans for Fall

Yes, even after Labor Day you can keep wearing your white jeans! Who ever made up that rule anyways?

During Fall is when I wear my white jeans the most believe it or not. My main advice if you want to make any piece season appropriate is to pair it with other pieces from that season. Let me explain:

For styling white jeans for Fall, first take out your white jeans. Then take out pieces that scream Fall, like for example: Booties, a hat, a blanket scarf, a flannel shirt, a puffer vest, a faux fur vest, etc. See what works together and have fun with it. You don’t have to wear all these pieces together though. Sometimes if you only incorporate one, you will be just fine. Here are 2 examples:

On the left side I incorporated booties and a denim shirt. On the right side I added a faux fur vest but over my denim jacket and I’m just wearing a T-shirt underneath. It’s all about how you put pieces together.

Other things you can try to style your white jeans for Fall:

• Pair them with a T-shirt, long cardigan, booties and a scarf.
• Try wearing them with a flannel shirt, faux fur vest and booties.
• If you have a wool hat or a printed blanket scarf, add it to any look and it will instantly look perfect for Fall. Add booties or white sneakers and that’s it!

White jeans outfit ideas – Other things to try:

Remember when I said I wanted to inspire you to create your own looks with pieces you already have in your closet? I really meant that! That’s why I share so many outfits and styling tips with each one of my blog posts. Here are some other things you can try when styling your white jeans:

• Create neutral looks

If you are just getting started and don’t know how to style white jeans, mix it with neutrals or pastels. You can’t go wrong if you do this. Keep it simple and light like I did here:

• All white with one (1) neutral piece:

Another thing you can try is to dress in all white, but adding one neutral piece to break things up a little bit. It can be a long vest, a belt, necklace, earrings, shoes, etc. You can also try mixing different textures of the same color.

• Style them with your denim jacket

Of course I was going to suggest styling your white jeans with a denim jacket! If you can incorporate stripes, then go for it because it will look good no matter what. I was being safe and wore neutral accessories, but feel free to add a pop of color with any accessories you decide to wear. It will make this look even cuter!

I’m sharing more looks with a white denim jacket below, but I wanted to add this one here because you can totally wear the two together! I styled them with different neutral pieces, but you can do anything you want here. It’s a blank canvas, so feel free to add a pop of color, a graphic T-shirt and booties to create an edgy look, etc. Play with what you have :)

How to style a white denim jacket – White jean jacket outfit ideas

Consider this a bonus section! I didn’t have enough photos to create a whole blog post on how to style a white denim jacket, so I thought the best thing I could do was to add them here. And you may be thinking, just take new photos and create extra looks with the white denim jacket, and I would do it, if I still had it in my closet (aka suitcase).

I don’t have it anymore because it didn’t survive my closet clean up. Last September me and my husband sold our belongings and started living in Airbnb’s full time , so I really had to downsize… and A LOT! I had to choose between my white denim jacket and my blue denim jacket and obviously the blue one won that battle BY FAR!

I’m going to be fully honest; I don’t think you NEED a white denim jacket. I wouldn’t include it in any of my capsule wardrobes. Yes, they are cute, but they are not like the most versatile piece out there. However, if you already have one and want to keep it, then by all means, start wearing it more and get the most out of it.

Here are some white denim jacket outfits and some styling tips so you can create your own looks:

Try styling your white denim jacket with dresses or jeans. Mix it with stripes and sneakers. You can even create office looks with it!

Modern White Jeans Outfit for Early Spring

I waffled on what to call this post. When we took these photos and as I write this post, it’s still winter. But I’ll be wearing this white jeans outfit formula into early spring for sure. So I could have just as easily titled it a “Modern White Jeans Outfit for Winter.” Semantics really! All that to say, if you’re chomping at the bit to wear your white jeans.. .let ‘er loose! Yesterday I wore this chic modern white jeans outfit to church, and if you’re ready to wear your white denim, I say go for it. Here’s how…

At the end of summer I always put my white denim away. The old rules about wearing white only between Easter or Memorial Day (depending on your tradition) and Labor Day are out the window. Really. You absolutely can wear white jeans and pants anytime you want and look very in the know. But I generally just enjoy the novelty of them more in the warmer months.

That said, when I got these new white pintuck flare jeans from Talbots I knew I didn’t want to wait too long to wear them. They’re a nice thickness, so not only do they keep me pleasantly warm, but they also don’t show lumps, bumps and bulges that white jeans and pants sometimes accentuate. They run nicely TTS; I’m wearing a misses 8.

Here are my style tips for wearing white jeans in the cooler months. (By the way, I definitely would not wear this outfit on a snowy or messy winter day. But it was sunny and dry on this particular winter day. So they felt perfectly appropriate.)

Tip #1 – Wear full length white jeans in a modern silhouette.

What’s a modern jeans silhouette ? Straight leg, wide leg, flare leg or trouser jeans would certainly qualify as a contemporary cut. Wearing a modern silhouette makes you look more like you know what you’re doing. Ha! And half of the equation is confidence, when it comes to looking stylish. While there truly is no fashion police, I’m sure there are still people out there who will question your fashion knowledge if you show up in white jeans before summer. But make your entrance rocking a modern silhouette and that helps put their speculations to rest. (If they still question your fashion intelligence, you just have to let that go…like the confident, well-adjusted woman you are.)

Tip #2 – Create a white jeans outfit in the contrast in intensity that works best for you.

I’ve talked extensively about contrast in intensity in this blog post and this one , as well as this YouTube video . The bottom line is that you want to put together an ensemble of garments and accessories that mimics the contrast in intensity that you have in your features : eyes, skin and hair. So if you have high contrast between the intensity of those three features, then you’ll look your best in outfits with high contrast, too. Think white jeans, vibrant colored tee and coordinating bright blazer, shown below.

But if you, like me, have low contrast in intensity between those three features you’ll look great in an outfit that is low contrast in intensity, such as the one I wore here. Plus, I just love the softness of oatmeal beige paired with white.

Other nice low-contrast-in-intensity pairings would include those white jeans with soft grey, light taupe, a pale pastel or light camel.

Tip #3 – Add texture to create a “warmer” appearance to the outfit.

I think one of the reasons white jeans or pants or skirts don’t look right to our eyes in the colder months is that we’re used to seeing them paired with summer-weight fabrics like seersucker, linen and lightweight cotton. So help the eyes out by adding a little bulk and texture to the cool day outfit.

Note that my sweater adds texture, but it’s a cotton sweater. So you can certainly still wear a wool or cashmere sweater with your white jeans if you’d like. But a cotton or linen sweater is generally my option of choice come spring. I love my Jenni Kayne cotton fisherman sweater and have worn it for at least three years now. The quality is outstanding. Tip #4 – Add appropriate footwear for cooler days, but in a color that works with your white denim outfit.

Again, we’re used to wearing and seeing white denim with sandals and sneakers. But you absolutely can wear your winter boots and booties with white jeans. Here I’ve worn my sand suede booties I got in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale this past summer. They work nicely for this low contrast in intensity outfit, but if you’re wearing a high contrast outfit you could opt for black or another deeper tone. And depending on your climate and day, you could opt for loafers, pumps or sneakers, too. I’ve gathered some nice low intensity options in the shopping widget below because they’re a little harder to find right now. Oh, and metallics are a nice option, too.

Tip #5 – Add outerwear as needed that works nicely with your white denim outfit.

Pairing your white denim with your winter coats can present a challenge. But that’s why I often begin thinking through my outfit by first choosing my coat. Of course, if you know you want to wear your white jeans, you’ll need to begin there. But then think about the coat.

I chose to wear my trench coat because this lined jacket was sufficient for the weather of the day and the birch color works nicely with my oatmeal colored cotton sweater . But other great options could include grey, ivory or camel coats for a low contrast in intensity, or black, navy or other colors for a higher contrast in intensity.

Tip #6 – Add a silk scarf to layer on just a touch of warmth and a splash of color.

To add just a splash of soft color and a little warmth for the commute, I wore my Sarah Flint X Gracie Tropics silk scarf ( more economical options ) tied loosely around my neck. I actually intended to remove it when I reached my destination, but ended up wearing it.

If you like, you can certainly tie your scarf in more creative ways. But since one of my style angles (see this blog post for more info) is effortless , I like to wear my scarves very casually with minimal fuss.

I still generally prefer to save my white denim for spring and summer, and then I wear it very frequently. But modern white jeans for early spring can be just the ticket to brighten your day. So don’t hesitate to add a new pair of white denim to your closet and begin enjoying them now. I’ve included a few other modern white jeans in the shopping widget below.

As we approach Valentine’s Day I always think it’s fun to focus on the topic of love. We flippantly say we love pizza, rainy days and our spouse, all in one conversation. But most of us know that none of our affections measure up to the love shown to us by our Creator. God so loved us that He reached across the chasm caused by our sin to pursue a restored relationship with us through the death of His only Son on a cruel and painful cross. He paid a price we could not pay for a debt He did not owe so that we could call Him Father and rest in the assurance of His faithful love. And every day He looks to His Son and remembers that debt has been paid once and for all…while we continue to do and say things that miss the mark. That is love.

But God’s love shouldn’t just awe us; it should also inspire us. Hopefully as we reflect on the love with which God has pursued us and remained faithful to us, we will feel compelled to love others with that same kind of grace and faithfulness and generosity. Let’s ask the Lord to create in us a heart like His, one that will patiently and kindly love the people in our lives so that they can better see Him in us.

How about a class reunion?

I am a woman who must wear petite sizes, but only because of sleeve and leg lengths. I am not a true petite in any other way. My frustration is finding any kind of jeans, lately, that are short enough. Despite what the size tag says, they are too long. I haven’t shrunk and can’t wear a heeled boot. How do I solve this dilemma?

Hi Mary Lee. A few things. First you can look for petite jeans of course. I know that Talbots, Ann Taylor, Loft and others do have petite jeans. In addition, some of the major premium denim brands have started carrying petites, such as Frame and Mother. They seem to work really well for the petite influencers I follow. The next step is alterations. I know that seems extreme for some women, but I’ve heard from petites that it is in fact the only way to make sure your clothes fit as they should. And if you are someone who will wear your jeans or pants frequently, having them altered will help you enjoy them more and wear them more, thus resulting in better cost per wear. Another option, honestly, is to cut the jeans off. A raw edge hemline is still very on trend. Use a good pair of sewing shears and measure well so that you don’t make a mistake you regret later. But this little “trend” can be a lifesaver when it comes to getting your jeans to the right length. And then a final option is to look for shoes that are still comfortable, but do indeed have a little height. They don’t have to be a high heeled boot or pump. YOu can even find sneakers and sandals with a platform lift. And one more thing, be sure to check the measurements on the jeans when shopping online. Most stores will give you the inseam of the jeans in the fit information. Use that to make the wisest choices. I hope those ideas help.

I have the same issue. Democracy jeans come in petite/short length and Old Navy actually has pretty nice petite/short jeans that were recommended in an Oprah post of top 10 jeans for older ladies. Nordstrom also has Wit and Wisdom jeans in petite/short length which are made by Democracy jeans.

Hi, Mary Lee and Linda — I am not petite, but proportionately I have a long torso. This post reminds me that Nordstrom offers free alternations, I believe up to $200 in value per year, to cardholders, and this includes shopping at the Rack. I was very pleased to have an alterations person hem my jeans to just the right length as part of my Rack shopping. I have also taken a tuck in jean legs above the hem, so that you keep the finished machine stitched hem, and just take up an inch or whatever in length by folding and stitching just above the hemline. It is not noticeable at all. If you have a sewing machine, give it a try.

My 50th high school class reunion is in August in Georgia. The main event is a banquet and business casual attire is suggested. I am also interesting in attending a couple of the satellite events which I think will offer more opportunity to visit with people who are not seated at my table. One of these is at night and the other is at noon, and both will be casual. What do you suggest?

Love these white pin tuck jeans from Talbots. I ordered these all ready and they are nice quality but run long. I need to take them to my tailor this week to have them hemmed. This often happens to me, as I am 5’3″ and cannot wear petites. They don’t fit in the rise. Really enjoyed the BFMD.

I really like how your scarf connects with the bright white jeans. I really struggle with optic white due to my coloring and contrast level. For some reason white shorts work fine for me especially if my legs are tanned. The jeans you feature are really special especially with the stitched seam at the front. So elegant!

Hi Kay- Like Sue and Carroll, I have a class reunion weekend coming up in June! I know we all want to look our best after not seeing many of these people for years. We will have a Friday happy hour, Saturday morning tour of the high school, Saturday night gathering at a golf club, and Sunday morning outdoor brunch. Any and all ideas appreciated!

1. I’d like recommendations for a high school graduation ceremony that will be indoors. It will be hot outside by then but may be cool inside.

2. As someone else mentioned, shoe, sandal, and sneaker trends for spring and summer.

3. You mentioned in an earlier blog or video that fine jewelry was trending. That is about all I have (thanks to a generous husband). How does one incorporate fine jewelry and make it look modern? I have pieces from the 1980’s (think gold chain bracelets and necklaces) as well as items like a tennis bracelet and diamond solitaires. I want to wear these items but still look modern.

I wasn’t sure what “fine” jewelry referred to. You seem to think it means non-costume jewelry. I was wondering also if that’s what it meant or if “fine” refers to more dainty jewelry (whether costume pieces or not.) If I had to guess it might be the latter. I wear costume and genuine interchangeably and do stick to more dainty pieces as a rule.

I will be going to San Antonio in late April for the Festival of Lights. (My granddaughter’s high school band is marching in the Saturday parade.) We will fly in on Thursday, midday and leave early Sunday. I want to only use a carry on. Suggestions for a capsule wardrobe please.

Hi Kay, Your post today was great. I loved all of your tips. I feel inspired to wear my white (actually cream, ha, ha) jeans more often during the cold weather. Like you, I wear white jeans most often during the warmer months.

I would love to see tips on how to wear dresses and skirts during the winter without freezing. Don’t get me wrong – I love trousers and jeans. But, I believe in dressing to show off one’s best features. One of my best features is my legs. I suspect that legs are many women’s best feature. Out legs below the knee are one of the parts of our bodies that age very well. I think my legs look just as good at age 69 as they did at age 29. I bet that is true for many of us!

When I was a lot younger I could comfortably wear dresses and skirts all year round. We were expected to have hose on our legs even during the heat of summer; then one day the fashion police said that hose were a no-no. I have gotten used to going bare legged during the warm months, but I cannot abide it during the colder times of year. I find that sheer nude hose do not keep me warm enough. I think they look fine, no matter what the fashion police say, but they aren’t warm. I have purchased a couple of pairs of fleece-lined tights in “nude”. They do keep me warmer, but I have not yet achieved either a look or feel that I truly love. One pair of tights is a pale beige that looks like no one’s skin, ha, ha. However, I think they look okay when I wear them with my pale beige, faux suede, lug-sole ankle booties. The colors are almost identical. There is no fleece in the foot part of these tights so there is a line of demarcation where the fleece starts just above the ankle. It’s not a deal breaker, but I wish the line weren’t there. The tights tend to pull on my toes as the day goes on causing pain in my Morton’s neuromas. That frequently makes me think twice about wearing them. Because of the neuroma issue I bought a different pair of fleece lined tights that have a convertible foot. Their color is a darker beige; again, no one would think it is my actual skin color, but they are a more pleasing color to my eye. Their big problem is that the foot part of the tights will not stay under my foot. They ride up to my ankle within a short while of putting them on. It’s not so bad when I am wearing boots, but the problem makes them impossible to wear with shoes.

I would love to know if you or any of your readers have found any beige tights that are warm and are a decent color. I do not like to wear black tights, which seems to be most women’s default. I wear a lot warm, tomato reds, golden yellows, bright rusts, Kelly greens, hazel (olive) greens, and warm camels. I have very few pieces that I feel would go well with black tights. The color is just too heavy for me.

Boot camp graduation in Oklahoma in July. It will be very hot, but I want to look nice. A lot of people show up in the worst wrinkled and cut-off clothes. Last time I went to boot camp in July, I wore a comfortable Ruby Road dress and sandals with no accessories. I still have both, but I don’t want to wear the same thing seven years later because of photos.

I also have a 50th high school reunion coming up in August! There will be some informal day events as well as a Friday night Happy Hour. I’ll be traveling from California to New York for the occasion so packing light is a necessity.

I just received white jeans that I ordered and have been debating when it would be appropriate to start wearing them, so your post is very timely for me. I appreciate your tips on how to style them now!

Kay, I don’t need inspiration for specific days but for summer days in general….I have most of my needs filled for winter but summer is more difficult as you age….I really don’t want to show it off anymore…it’s just not that pretty…but would love inspiration for some variety not just the same old tee and cropped pants…. trying to cover it up and stay cool …help…

I’m on the hunt for a dress for a bridal shower the first week in March in MN. A dress for a baby showe mid April in Chicago. And a dress for baby shower mid April in MN. Both baby showers are for my daughter and son-in-law, it’s a girl! Which will be grand baby #3 for us! 3 grands under 2, which is why we bought a secon home in MN. Our primary home is in Alabama. Late March-April in Michigan (so likely cooler spring weather). I would say the usual attire is elevated casual. Jeans are acceptable if they are dressier like the white ones in this post.

Love the white jeans, but I could never wear such light colors. It seems like the white showed every little stain and spot. Hi there Mary Lee , Kay is so right shop at Petites always carry a tape measure and make friends with a good Seamstress . Im petite and if I can’t get what I need I sometimes as well as shortening , need shoulders taken in and waist as well as jacket lengths!!!. The Best compliment I had recently was from a lovely lady I worked with and still see at the various Do’s etc and she said “Kym all of your clothes fit you so well and perfectly , where do you get them from ? Im petite and everything I buy is too long , hangs off me ! What’s your secret”, I did tell her . And to me yes it adds extra expense to a garment but like Kay says work out the cost per wear 👍🏻. Jeremy Allen White should be in the middle of your menswear moodboard right now. Yes, because he plays a hot chef on TV's hottest show , and yes, because he bared almost all in the year's hottest Calvin Klein campaign . But also because every guy on the planet can pull off his latest fit and fly with it.

Spotted on the streets of Los Angeles (not at a farmer's market this time), White had this whole baggy fit thing on lock. Up top, he wore a white cotton shirt with the top two buttons undone and the sleeves rolled up, left untucked for a super casual vibe. It's the same story down south, too, with a pair of loose-fitting, light-wash jeans .

And while everything is a lot looser than the tight T-shirts he's made famous on The Bear, White isn't drowning in his clothes. The cut of his shirt still has some structure, and while his jeans are definitely on the bigger side, they're the perfect length to show off his fave sneakers of all-time: the Nike Cortez.

But that's not to say that all slouchy fits need to be kept in check. Take Justin Bieber , for example. His entire wardrobe is obviously two or three (or four) sizes too big for him, but he keeps it consistent. He's not pairing a 9XL leather jacket with slim-cut trousers . That would be wrong! Instead, he's going all-in with the enormous proportions, and that just works too (albeit on the freakier side of the menswear scale).

But if you want to emulate a more solid, wearable rotation from Jeremy Allen White, repeat after him: White shirt. Solid jeans. Classic sneakers. You've got this, buddy.

Touring the Top 10 Moscow Metro Stations

Komsomolskaya metro station looks like a museum. It has vaulted ceilings and baroque decor.

Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.

Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.

The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

Moscow subways are very clean

To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow.   Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.

The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:

1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station  is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.

2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

3. Arbatskaya Metro Station served as a shelter during the Soviet-era. It is one of the largest and the deepest metro stations in Moscow.

4. Biblioteka Imeni Lenina Metro Station was built in 1935 and named after the Russian State Library. It is located near the library and has a big mosaic portrait of Lenin and yellow ceramic tiles on the track walls.

5. Kievskaya Metro Station was one of the first to be completed in Moscow. Named after the capital city of Ukraine by Kiev-born, Nikita Khruschev, Stalin's successor.

6. Novoslobodskaya Metro Station  was built in 1952. It has 32 stained glass murals with brass borders.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.

8. Mayakovskaya Metro Station built in 1938. It was named after Russian poet Vladmir Mayakovsky. This is one of the most beautiful metro stations in the world with 34 mosaics painted by Alexander Deyneka.

9. Belorusskaya Metro Station is named after the people of Belarus. In the picture below, there are statues of 3 members of the Partisan Resistance in Belarus during World War II. The statues were sculpted by Sergei Orlov, S. Rabinovich and I. Slonim.

10. Teatralnaya Metro Station (Theatre Metro Station) is located near the Bolshoi Theatre.

I’m Bored of My White Trainers, so I Found 9 Chic Spring Shoe Trends I Like More

I know it's completely dependant on where you live, but this week it feels like spring has finally sprung—at least where I'm based. The mornings have been light and the skies blue (a miracle considering that place is Scotland), and whilst it's done wonders for my mood, I know it's also going to be a game-changer for my style. We're at the point in the season where I've fallen into a very familiar pattern with my outfits . Switching between a few pairs of jeans and a handful of knits, to say I've been feeling a little uninspired lately would be an understatement.

But the latest stint of fine weather has given me a new lease of life, which includes wanting to put more effort into getting dressed again. And I'm setting my sights on shoes . I'm officially over my trusty yet—let's face it—tad boring black boots, and I'm now interested in learning which spring shoe trends are in store for 2024, for nothing can update an outfit quite as efficiently as a great pair of shoes.

So, I did a bit (read: three hours' worth) of research to find out exactly which pairs are piquing the interests of fashion people for the season ahead. From fresh fabrics to current colourways, I've wrapped my findings up for you below—complete with chic shopping should you have room to add to your collection.

9 Spring 2024 Shoe Trends to Try

1. burgundy tones.

Style Notes: Burgundy is the expensive-looking colour trend that's set to dominate for A/W '24 , but fashion people are already wearing it in a very specific way—leather shoes drenched in rich dark-cherry hues.

2. Penny Loafers

Style Notes: Loafers always return once winter temperatures start to thaw, and this spring, it's time for the minimal penny loafer to make a comeback. Devoid of the embellishments we've seen in previous seasons like chunky logo hardware and chains, these are slicker and far more classic.

3. Satin Fabrics

Style Notes: You better check your weather app before you even think of stepping outside in these, but there's no getting away from satin shoes this spring. Easily the prettiest shoe trend in our lineup, I love seeing this fabric channelled into more casual footwear styles, such as low-heel mules and ballet flats.

4. Suede Clogs

Style Notes: Birkenstock Bostons were harder to get your hands on last year than gold dust, so I recommend investing in a pair before they inevitably sell out again ahead of spring. Because of their popularity, so many other brands are launching their own suede-clog iterations. My favourites are at Zara (as seen on Jessica Skye above) and Hush.

5. Colourful Trainers

Style Notes: Sorry to my plain white plimsolls, but this spring I'm tempted to invest in one of the many pairs of colourful trainers I'm seeing everywhere . During one 30-second scroll of my Instagram feed, I saw eight people wearing bright kicks—specifically Adidas pairs—cementing them as the trainer trend to know this year.

7. Two-Tone

Style Notes: Between contrast-toe ballet pumps and loafers with contrasting tongues, I'm already seeing a lot of two-tone shoes ahead of spring. With an inherently classic quality, it's little wonder this style is becoming the footwear of choice for those with elegant style.

8. Fishnet Textures

Style Notes: Another one you'll want to reserve for the warmest spring days, fishnet shoes are going to be where it's at. Anyone who follows fashion will tell you that Alaïa shoes are big news right now, and its ballet pumps are sparking something of a netted movement across the rest of the market. If you can afford to do so, I always advocate buying the original, but the Mango pair below is too good not to share for a more affordable alternative.

9. Leopard Print

Style Notes: Many trends have made a comeback this season, like biker jackets and powder blue. However, the most noticeable has to be leopard print , which we've seen splashed on everything from jeans to coats. It's leopard-print shoes , however, that the style set is embracing most.

An easy way to dress up a casual outfit.

Animal print will go well with any neutral tones in your wardrobe.

9. Brown Boots

Style Notes: Okay, okay—I know I said I was over wearing my black boots, but brown? Not only do they feel more on-trend—brown is still big news—but I find the slightly softer tone works better with the lighter palette that generally comes into focus in the warmer months, making a pair of brown boots a wise shoe addition if you ask me.
