The 5 best destinations you can visit on a Windstar Cruises ship

Gene Sloan

Where can you go on a Windstar Cruises ship? A surprising number of places, given the line's small size. Despite having just six vessels, the upscale line operates voyages to a wide range of destinations around the world, from North America and Europe to French Polynesia.

Among all the Windstar cruise destinations, Europe might be the most popular. As is often the case with higher-end lines, Windstar has a particularly large footprint when it comes to Europe itineraries. Nearly half of the 534 voyages currently on its schedule for 2024 focus on either the Mediterranean or Northern Europe. In a typical year, the line will deploy five of its six ships to Europe for at least part of the year.

Windstar also typically deploys at least one of its vessels year-round to Tahiti for sailings around the islands of French Polynesia. It's a particular specialty of the line.

In the winter, at least two and sometimes three Windstar vessels will move to the warm waters of the Caribbean, another area of focus. In addition to classic Caribbean sailings, those vessels also often do sailings through the Panama Canal, another specialty of the line.

Currently, Windstar's itinerary lineup offers sailings as short as six nights and as long as 55 nights. The company generally doesn't do short sailings of just three or four nights, unlike big-ship lines.

Here, a look at TPG's picks for the five best destinations you can visit on a Windstar Cruises ship.

Mediterranean

windstar cruise schedule

Of all the places that Windstar ships sail, none gets as much focus from the line as the Mediterranean . As of the publishing of this story, a whopping 212 of the 534 voyages on the line's schedule for the coming year included calls in the region. That's 40% of all Windstar itineraries.

The Mediterranean trips offer a wide range of port stops and vary greatly in length. There is everything from relatively short, seven-night sailings around the sunny Greek islands to 23-day voyages that span a good chunk of the Mediterranean from Montenegro and Croatia to the far western coast of Spain.

Windstar features voyages focused specifically on the Western Mediterranean or the Eastern portion and voyages that include days traveling beyond the edges of the Mediterranean to such places as the Canary Islands.

Typical of the latter is the line's epic, 18-night "Star Collector: Canaries, Casablanca and the Costa del Sol" routing. It's a one-way trip between Barcelona and the Canary Islands with a mix of stops in Spain, Portugal, Morocco and the Canary Islands. It's a deep exploration into the western side of Europe and North Africa.

Some of Windstar's Mediterranean itineraries also include a visit to Israel, although port stops in Israel have been canceled for the next few months due to the war between Israel and Hamas. For now, Israel remains on itineraries scheduled to depart in April 2024 and beyond.

Typical of the line's more focused, quickie Mediterranean itineraries are its eight-night "Myths and Marvels of the Aegean" routing out of Piraeus, Greece (the port for Athens) that concentrates on the islands of Greece and Turkey with seven stops in the countries.

In the Mediterranean, the line's main hubs are Piraeus, Civitavecchia (the port for Rome) and Barcelona.

windstar cruise schedule

Windstar has been one of the leaders in a trend that has swept the cruise world in the past decade: cruises that focus solely on Iceland.

In 2016, Windstar became the first traditional cruise brand to operate complete circumnavigations of the Kentucky-size island nation, joining a handful of expedition-style cruise operators such as Lindblad Expeditions and Hurtigruten that were starting to add Iceland circlings.

And while other cruise brands including Ponant and Scenic Luxury Cruises have since followed Windstar in offering voyages that take in every corner of Iceland, Windstar remains one of the biggest players in the market with regular summer sailings.

In a typical year, Windstar will offer seven-night circlings of Iceland every week from June through late August.

The trips begin and end in Reykjavik, Iceland's main city and capital. The ship will sail in a counterclockwise direction around the country with stops at some of Iceland's most remote areas. It's a chance to see the full range of Iceland's famously striking geothermal fields of geysers and fumaroles, mountains, glaciers, volcanoes and waterfalls without having to navigate the ring road that circles the country. And it includes stops in some of Iceland's smallest and quirkiest towns.

In 2024, the 312-passenger Star Pride will call on places like Heimaey Island, where passengers see the frozen-in-place lava flows of a famous 1973 eruption that covered a third of the town.

Another call at little-visited Grundarfjordur, along the remote Snæfellsnes Peninsula, offers the chance to hike onto the glacier atop nearby Snæfellsjökull volcano, the setting for Jules Verne's 19th-century classic "Journey to the Center of the Earth."

Other stops include Akureyri, the gateway to the geothermal fields of of Hverir and their bubbling mud pots and whistling steam vents.

French Polynesia

windstar cruise schedule

Windstar has been a longtime leader in French Polynesia cruises, too, operating in the region for 37 years. In fact, it's one of just two traditional cruise lines that dominate the market for French Polynesia voyages — the other being one-ship line Paul Gauguin Cruises.

Like Paul Gauguin Cruises, Windstar offers French Polynesia sailings year-round out of Papeete, Tahiti, the main hub for the region. Ranging from seven to 18 nights, the trips take in such iconic French Polynesian islands as Bora Bora, Moorea, Tahaa and Huahine. They appeal heavily to couples looking for a romantic getaway.

For many years, Windstar has used one of its sailing ships, the 148-passenger Wind Spirit, for its French Polynesia sailings. But in early 2024, it replaced that vessel in the region with one of its bigger motor-powered vessels, the 312-passenger Star Breeze.

The redeployment more than doubles Windstar's capacity in the region, a sign of just how popular these trips have become.

The voyages offer a large amount of time in each of the islands that are visited, thanks to the short distances between them. In most cases, the ship travels between the islands overnight and ties up or anchors in a new stunning bay each morning.

As is typical for French Polynesian trips, whether on land or water, days are spent exploring sandy tropical beaches, swimming and snorkeling in ridiculously clear water and visiting cultural attractions. You'll have a chance to visit the sites where locals harvest the cultured black pearls that account for more than half of French Polynesia's exports.

Diving is also a big draw on these trips. It's a top excursion during calls at the islands of Raiatea and Bora Bora. Snorkeling with stingrays and joining a marine biologist in search of dolphins and whales are other popular excursions.

windstar cruise schedule

Like many upscale cruise brands operating smaller ships, Windstar doesn't focus on Caribbean cruises . The Caribbean is more the domain of such big-ship cruise giants as Carnival Cruise Line or Royal Caribbean . Still, Windstar typically sends at least two of its six vessels to the Caribbean every winter to operate warm-weather-focused getaways to lesser-visited Caribbean ports — usually one of its motor-powered vessels and one of its wind-powered sailing vessels.

For 2024, Windstar's two main vessels in the Caribbean will be the 312-passenger Star Pride, a motor-powered vessel, and the 342-passenger Wind Surf, a sailing vessel. One other Windstar sailing ship, the 148-passenger Wind Spirit, will also make an occasional appearance in the region.

For the most part, WIndstar's lineup of Caribbean cruises is focused on round-trip, seven-night sailings out of St. Martin or Barbados.

When sailing out of St. Martin, the voyages typically include stops in St. Barts, Antigua, Anguilla and the British Virgin Islands. When sailing out of Barbados, the ships will call at more southerly Caribbean islands such as St. Lucia and the Grenadines.

For 2024, most of the line's sailings out of St. Martin will take place in the first part of the year, while the Barbados-based sailings will come at the end of the year.

In addition, the line also sometimes offers Caribbean sailings out of San Juan, Puerto Rico, with calls in St. Maarten (the Dutch side of the island of St. Martin), Guadeloupe, St. Lucia and the Grenadines.

At times, the line will run back-to-back seven-night sailings in the Caribbean with different itineraries. The two trips can be paired to create a longer, 14-night voyage with few repeating ports.

Panama Canal

windstar cruise schedule

In addition to Caribbean trips, Windstar is known for a large number of sailings that begin in the Caribbean and end in the Pacific, or vice versa — voyages that involve a transit between the two regions via the Panama Canal.

Such trips offer travelers a chance to see the marvel of modern engineering that is the 48-mile-long Panama Canal up close. An entire day is spent traveling through the canal, including transits of the locks found at each end.

As is the case with many Panama Canal cruises, passengers on Windstar canal cruises also get a second chance to experience the canal the day before or after the transit when their ship docks at one side or the other of the canal. Shore excursions will take them to the locks for an up-close view of the lock chambers that their ship will navigate the next day (or passed through the previous day).

In a typical year, Windstar will offer as many as two departures a week through the Panama Canal from late November through the end of March. It typically has two of its six vessels operating such journeys in winter — one sailing ship and one motor ship.

Related: The best time to cruise the Panama Canal

The trips all are one-way, starting in either Aruba in the Caribbean or the port of Balboa on the Pacific side of Panama.

In addition to the experience of traveling through and visiting the canal, the Pacific-bound sailings visit Colombia, Costa Rica and the Caribbean side of Panama.

The Caribbean-bound sailings bring calls along the Pacific side of Costa Rica and Panama.

Bottom line

Windstar is a relatively small cruise line with just six ships, but its ships visit a wide array of cruise destinations. The line is known for regularly moving its vessels around the world to offer a diverse lineup of itineraries everywhere from North America and Europe to French Polynesia.

Windstar’s Pelog: New Ships Bring Opportunities, New Features

  • April 15, 2024

Windstar New Ship

Windstar Cruises is expanding its fleet with two new ships.

Starting in late 2025, the company is set to receive two vessels from Mystic Cruises.

Renamed Star Explorer and Star Seeker, the 9,300-ton vessels are joining Windstar Cruises’ six-ship fleet after undergoing major conversions.

“These new ships allow Windstar not only to grow, but to go back to favorite destinations that we’ve been to before and explore new destinations,” he said during a press conference in Miami, adding that the new vessels will deliver “amazing opportunities” for the company.

While itineraries have not yet been finalized, one of the new ships is expected to take over the itineraries currently being offered by the Wind Star.

Joining the Star Breeze, the sailing ship is scheduled to sail in Tahiti and French Polynesia starting in 2027.

Although the new vessels have ice-strengthened hulls, Windstar does not have plans to deploy them in polar regions, Prelog said.

“We are doing more ‘soft exploration,’ which could be Alaska, Greenland or Norway but I don’t think we’ll go to the poles. We are, after all, a cruise company,” he explained.

The new ships are “perfectly sized” for Windstar, he added, and primarily feature balcony cabins, along with staterooms with infinity windows.

The vessels will also offer a marina and alternative dining options, as well as enhanced public areas and features, he noted.

The marina will be added to the stern of the ships and will be accessed through the deck above, Prelog said, while a helideck is set to be converted into additional guest space.

“It will be replaced with two big owner’s suites and balcony cabins as well,” he explained, adding that Windstar is also changing the general arrangement of the pool decks on the vessels.

With the addition of the new cabins, the ship’s current capacity is expected to increase by approximately 30 percent, reaching 224 guests.

“We are also changing the bow, where we’ll have a forward jacuzzi, which can also be found on our Star Class ships,” Prelog said.

To “really make them Windstar ships,” the company is adding an expanded spa and specialty dining options.

Among the dining venues being introduced are a main dining room and the Star Grill, in addition to a yet-to-be-determined specialty restaurant.

While the Star Seeker is set to sail from its building shipyard with Windstar modifications, the Star Explorer is set to undergo a refit to add the new features.

According to Prelog, the work will take place before the ship’s inaugural cruise at the WestSea shipyard in Viana do Castelo, Portugal.

The conversion will not incur any costs for Windstar as it is included in the company’s deal with Mystic, he explained.

“We’ve been wanting to grow Windstar and its fleet for some time and COVID sort of put a hold on that but now we have the ships,” said Andrew N. Todd, President & CEO of parent company Xanterra Travel Collection.

“We are really excited about it and are committed to growing the company. We hope that it’s the kick off for beginning of what we planned to add additional ships and sail to destinations and locations that we’ve been wanting to go,” he added.

If it’s thrills you seek, Icy Strait Point also features one of the biggest ziplines in the world. Continue below to find out more of our recommended excursions while cruising to Alaska with Windstar Cruises:

Salmon Fishing in Alaska

  • Sportfishing (Sitka, Alaska) Try your hand at the traditional salmon fishing methods: trolling or mooching. Trolling is when the fishermen have two or four lines and are fishing off downriggers while the boat is moving. Mooching is when fishermen hold the rod and work the bait while the boat is anchored. Sitka is one of Alaska’s best fishing places and this excursion will give you a prime opportunity to catch a unique souvenir; you’ll be able to fish for king, silver, chum, and pink salmon. If you live within the continental US, you can meet with local fish processors to have your catch sent to your home.

Taku Glacier in Alaska

  • Taku Glacier Adventure (Juneau, Alaska) Explore Alaska’s Taku Glacier – the largest and only advancing glacier on the Juneau Icefield. This tour is ideal for small groups, and presents an opportunity to visit a remote, helicopter only location – a place few visitors get to experience. During this excursion, you’ll have the opportunity to explore an ancient landscape, taste the purity of the water from glacier streams, and fly in a helicopter over the Taku Glacier and numerous others.

Bear Catching Salmon in Alaska

  • Haines Photo Tour (Haines, Alaska) Create your own souvenirs of your Windstar Alaskan cruise by participating in the photo tour of Haines, Alaska. You’ll have the perfect opportunity to photograph the mesmerizing scenery of the Chilkat Valley with an expert photography guide to help you capture the best shots of the natural wonders. May, June, and July will feature wildflowers and bald eagles. In August, pink salmon begin their journey up the Chilkoot River to spawn, which is the best opportunity to see brown bears feeding along the river.

Killer Whales in Alaska

  • Discover Alaska Whales (Juneau, Alaska) Alaska’s waters have one of the highest concentrations of humpback whales and this excursion is a perfect opportunity to see them up close! You’ll sail out on a research vessel where you are guaranteed to see a humpback whale. You’ll also have the opportunity to participate in numerous science activities onboard and learn about whale research. You could also see orcas, sea lions, harbor seals, and porpoises! The experienced captains will slow down when a whale is spotted, giving you plenty of opportunity to snap a priceless photo!

Kenai Fjords Glaciers in Alaska

  • Cruise the Kenai Fjords (Kenai Peninsula Borough, Alaska) The Kenai Fjords may be Alaska’s smallest national park, but it’s large in allure. Most cruise lines can’t visit the Kenai Fjords but when you sail with Windstar, you’ll see it up close. The Kenai Fjords has a breathtaking arctic landscape, carved by glaciers, and is home to many marine animals and other wildlife. This is where you’ll make the memories that will last you a lifetime. Take advantage of Windstar’s unique opportunity to see one of Alaska’s most captivating areas.

Totem Poles in Ketchikan, Alaska

  • Totems Poles in the Salmon Capital (Ketchikan, Alaska) Ketchikan, Alaska features several standing totem poles scattered throughout the parks and city, including several at Totem Bight State Park, Potlatch Park, Saxman Totem Park and the Totem Heritage Center. Admire the bright colors and detailed etchings before making your way to the shops and cafes along Creek Street, built upon a boardwalk overlooking Ketchikan Creek.

Istanbul cruise port

Region Mediterranean - Black Sea

Local Time 2024-04-15 18:38

Port Istanbul cruise ship schedule shows timetable calendars of all arrival and departure dates by month. The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from Istanbul, Turkey, Galataport. To see the full itineraries (ports of call dates and arrival / departure times) and their lowest rates – just follow the corresponding ship-link.

Istanbul is a major port city in Turkey, as well as the country's most populous and its historic, cultural and economic center. The city covers a total area of approx 1539 km2 (594 mi2) and has population around 14,1 million (metro around 14,8 million).

Historically known as Byzantium and Constantinople, Istanbul is a transcontinental city (located in both Europe and Asia) and straddling Bosphorus Strait between Black Sea and Marmara Sea (Eastern Mediterranean). The city's historical and commercial downtown is on the European side, and around 1/3 of its population is on the Asian side. Istanbul Metro is one of the world's most populous cities - ranked 7th-largest (city proper) and Europe's largest - followed by Moscow (Russia) and London (UK) . It also has one of world's fastest-growing metro economies.

Established under the name of Byzantion (around 660 BC), the city developed to become one of the most prominent in European history. After the reestablishment as Constantinople (330 CE), the city served as the imperial capital for nearly 16 centuries. The period included the Roman (330-1204), Byzantine (1261–1453), Latin (1204–1261) and Ottoman (1453–1922) empires. During Roman and Byzantine times, it was Christianity's second most important city (after Rome ), before in 1453 the Ottomans conquered and transformed it into an Islamic stronghold and Ottoman Caliphate's capital.

Istanbul has a strategic position on the Silk Road (rail networks from China to Middle East and Europe) and is also on the only sea route between Mediterranean Sea and Black Sea. Its population has increased tenfold since the 1950s. Music, film, cultural and arts festivals were established at the end of 20th century and continue to be hosted today. Infrastructure improvements and redevelopments have produced a complex transportation network.

Currently, Istanbul is ranked the world's 8th most popular tourist travel destination (as city), while Turkey is ranked the world's 6th (as country). Its biggest attraction is the historic downtown (partially listed as UNESCO Site), as well as entertainment and cultural venues (across the Golden Horn/natural harbor in Beyoglu district). Most tourists arrive via flights, but ~0,5 million foreigners arrive by ships/yachts annualy.

Port Istanbul

Port Istanbul (locode TRIST) as cruise port is both homeport (departure/turnaround) and call port, visited mainly as part of Eastern Mediterranean/Aegean Sea itineraries. Most voyages start in Italy ( Venice ) or Greece ( Piraeus-Athens ).

Some of the world's largest cruise brands with European seasonal programs - like Uniworld (river cruisetours packages combining flights to/from Istanbul), RCI-Royal Caribbean . Princess - were the first to drop Turkish ports (including Istanbul) from their 2016-2017-2018 schedules. These companies were soon followed by Celebrity , Azamara , Cunard , Holland America, P&O UK . All ports of call in Turkey were replaced by Greek Islands port destinations.

In 2015, the cruise port in Karakoy was closed down due to construction works for the new Galataport. The tourists' decline resulted in many street businesses closing down as tradesmen lost nearly 90% of their businesses in comparison to 2015. In 2016, the number of foreign tourists to Turkey decreased by 32% (down to 17,4 million) over 2015. There was a significant decrease in arrivals from Western- and Asian countries and from Russia. On June 6, 2019, Istanbul's Sarayburnu Port welcomed its first cruise vessel in 4 years - Seven Seas Voyager - operated by RSSC-Regent.

Turkey (previously a hugely popular travel and leisure/resort destination) was subject to a number of deadly terrorist attacks in 2016 and 2017. In June 2016, an Istanbul airport attack (shootings and suicide bombings) resulted in 42 deaths. In December 2016, a twin bomb attack outside a football stadium killed 38. There was also a shooting in the Reina nightclub (Ortakoy district of Istanbul) in January 2017 resulting in 39 dead and 69 injured.

In early-November 2018, CCL-Carnival Cruise Lines and RCI-Royal Caribbean International placed bids for the tendering operations of Istanbul's Port Yenikapı. Both companies are interested in building a new cruise port in Istanbul (as build/operate/transfer project) and intend to turn Istanbul into a Mediterranean cruise hub. CCL and RCI are represented here by Tura Tourism (a Turkish sales agency).

The Galataport project was initially scheduled for completion in March 2020. However, due to the Coronavirus crisis, the project was delayed and the cruise port was inaugurated in August 2021. The modern facility was planned for annual capacity ~1,5 million and daily capacity ~15,000 (passengers and crew). The largest cruise companies with booked berthing were RCI, Holland America, Marella UK , RSSC-Regent Seven Seas , Ponant , Silversea , Fred Olsen , Windstar , Celestyal .

Istanbul cruise terminal

Istanbul cruise port terminals are located near Galata Tower. Cruise ships dock at Karaköy Yolcu Salonu passenger terminal (at Beyoglu's southern tip). The terminal is located in Karakoy (Galata), on the waterfront of Bosphorus Strait. This whole area was redeveloped into the new Galataport cruise ship terminal complex.

Istanbul cruise port terminal is right in downtown (in close proximity to major tourist attractions) and approx 20 km / 12 mi (or 25-min) away from Ataturk Airport.

Cruise ships generally arrive in Istanbul and dock at the Salı Pazarı terminal between 8:30-9 AM. After disembarkation, passengers arrive to the shoreline Meclis-i Mebusan boulevard. All the port's ship docking quays are along the shore - starting from Golden Horn's mouth and going northeastward to the districts Findikli and Tophane.

Near the port is the tram station Fındıklı from where you can cross Galata Bridge and go to some of the city's most popular tourist destinations - Sultanahmet (Blue Mosque), Topkapi, Eminonu (Spice Bazaar), Beyazit (Grand Bazaar), Karakoy (Galata Tower), Dolmabahce Palace (5-min walk from the tram's last stop), Taksim Square. Istiklal Avenue (city's most popular street).

From the cruise terminal, Galata Bridge is at 10-min walking distance. At Galata Bridge's northern end (across Golden Horn) is Karakoy - the city’s oldest district. Via an underground cable-car you can go from Karaköy to Tunnel Square, from where an easy walk leads to Istiklal Avenue.

Yolcu Salonu passenger terminal is capable to accommodate 4 cruise ships at a time. If there are more vessels, the dock at Salipazari Pier. The cruise terminal building has 3 halls with combined capacity 10,000 passengers.

Galata Port

Ä°stanbul's new cruise port "Galataport" project originated in 2001 as a redevelopment project that combines functions complementing Turkey's capital city as a center of tourism, commerce and culture. The project covers a land area of 0,1 km2 (0,04 mi2), where the existing buildings (at Karaköy Yolcu Salonu) were renovated - keeping their authentic forms but acquiring new functions.

By this project, the city's customs zone was transformed into a modern tourism complex consisting of an art museum, hotels, restaurants and bars, fast food venues, shopping malls, numerous souvenir shops, office buildings, exhibition areas, car parking facilities.

The following Galataport map shows the Atakoy–Bakırkoy district development project. This district is the city's most populated. The development (started in 2013) planned to provide high-end residential properties, including boat and yacht marinas. The total land area is approx 0,5 km2 (0,2 mi2). It features a well-developed city transportation network - highways, railways, the Atatürk Airport (at just 8 km / 5 mi).

Salı Pazarı cruise terminal was temporarily closed for restoration (2015-2021). The new Galataport cruise terminal was initially scheduled for opening in 2018 but was eventually postponed for August 2021.

In May 2017, to Galataport's masterplan was proposed a new concept combining a movable gangway with underground cruise passenger operations. The idea includes a hydraulic boardwalk deploying a gangway during ship calls only (when a vessel is docked). As space, the hydraulic system takes only 3,5 m of the boardwalk.

Galataport was jointly built by Dogus Group (one of Turkey's largest private-sector holdings) and Bilgili Holding (real-estate developer and tourism investor). With an investment of ~TL 14,07 billion (USD 1,7B / EUR 1,43B), this is one of the world's largest coastal and cruise port projects, with annual capacity ~25 million visitors (including ~7M tourists and ~1,5M cruisers).

  • Galataport Cruise Terminal has berthing capacity of 3x liners (simultaneously docked) and ~15,000 passengers.
  • The first cruise ship docking at Galataport (on September 25-26, 2021/overnight) was MS Eurodam ( HAL-Holland America Line ).
  • Istanbul Galataport's facilities feature an underground cruise terminal (world’s first) sized 29000 m2 / 312155 ft2 which has a unique access/hatch system. During ship days (with docked ships) the cruise terminal converts the port into an esplanade.

Besides being a cruise port, Galataport serves mainly as a leisure destination offering domestic tourists and citizens entertainment and activities themed on gastronomy/modern and traditional Balkan cuisine, shopping, arts, culture, modern tourist attractions and amenities. Galataport also houses a new art museum (Istanbul Modern), Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, MSFAU (Museum of Painting and Sculpture), Tophane Square (Beyoglu district, with the mid-19th-century Tophane Clock Tower). More historical buildings also underwent restorations as part of the Galataport project - including Merkez Han, Karakoy Yolcu Salonu (passenger terminal), Karakoy Cinili Han, Peninsula Istanbul Hotel (2022-inaugurated).

  • Galata Tower: half a kilometer away from Istanbul Cruise Port. Take a bird-eye view from the Galata Tower top. You will see the amazing modern part of Old Istanbul.
  • Basilica Cistern: dates from the 6th century, one of the most romantic attraction.
  • Aya Sofya: 4 km away from Istanbul Cruise Port. The extraordinary church dates from 6th century.
  • Topkapi Palace: 3 km away from Istanbul Cruise Port. It is a must-see attraction. Topkapi used to be the home of many sultans generations. Discover the delicate kiosks, the lush green courtyards and the secretive harem.
  • Ayasofya Hürrem Sultan Hamam: located in the Sultanahmet Square . It was built in the 16th century for Roxelana, the wife of Suleiman the Magnificent. You can also visit more steamy bathhouses like Cemberlita, Sulemaniye and Galatasaray baths.
  • Blue Mosque: 4 km away from Istanbul Cruise Port, just across Aya Sofya. The Blue Mosque was designed by Sedefkar Mehmed Aga and dates from the early years of the 17th century. It is surrounded by small lively park.
  • Istanbul Archaeology Museums: great place with section for all the family.
  • Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum: housed in the former Ibrahim Pasha Palace.
  • Suleymaniye Mosque: designed for Suleiman the Magnificent by Sinan, a famous Ottoman architect.
  • Taksim Square: two and a half kilometers away from Istanbul Cruise Port.
  • Grand Bazar: take a 20 minutes walk from Istanbul Cruise Port to find almost everything at this marketplace.
  • Dolmabahce Palace: 3 km away from Istanbul Cruise port. The stunning palace was constructed in the period 1843-1856 by the architect of Sultan Abdulmecid, Karabet Balyan.

Daily tours from Istanbul to Edirne (departures every 2 hours) are also offered. The distance is approx 210 km (130 mi). Bus travel time is around 2,5 hours.

Windstar cruises welcomes two new ships to fleet including first star class newbuild.

Wind Class Sail Ship to Return to French Polynesia , Doubling Presence in the Region

MIAMI , April 10, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Windstar Cruises , a leader in small-ship luxury cruising, is excited to announce the expansion of its fleet with the addition of two all-suite motor yachts, Star Seeker and Star Explorer . The first of the two ships, new-build Star Seeker which is currently being constructed in the WestSEA shipyard, is expected to be delivered in December of 2025, followed by Star Explorer in December, 2026.

"Our goal was to ensure these ships are unmistakably Windstar, and a significant amount of effort has gone into achieving this," says Windstar Cruises' President Christopher Prelog . "We are thrilled for this expansion, building on the success of our game-changing Star Class in small-ship cruising with guests and travel partners, while offering new experiences. This growth reflects the dedication of our incredible crew and team, allowing us to broaden our destination portfolio and even bring one of our Wind Class sail ships back to Tahiti."

Each ship has 112 suites, featuring full private verandas and infinity windows, ensuring unparalleled views for every guest onboard. Additionally, two new Owner's Suites with wrap-around balconies have been added to the aft of the ship, perfect for evening cocktails or a private dinner. With a capacity for 224 guests and a staff to guest ratio of 1:2, the ships maintain an intimate atmosphere, ensuring personalized service at every turn.

Guests will also enjoy access to several newly added Windstar guest favorites, including the brand's iconic Watersports Platform with all-new staircase access, the cozy Yacht Club café and lounge, a two-story spa and fitness facility, an intimate forward whirlpool on the bow, and a spacious open deck perfect for sunbathing and Windstar's famous deck barbeques.

As the Official Cruise Line of the James Beard Foundation ®  (JBF), Windstar's commitment to exceptional cuisine will continue to be a priority for the guest experience. The re-imagined main dining room, Amphora, will serve a variety of upscale and inventive dishes, including rotating items from James Beard Foundation–affiliated guest chefs. Al fresco dining will now be available at both Amphora and the Star Grill. A no-charge specialty restaurant and 24-hr room service rounds out the four dining options.

Star Seeker  and Star Explorer both have ice-strengthened hulls, unlocking access to new destinations. The ships are equipped with the latest technology in safety, propulsion, and navigation, including pump jet thrusters and forward-facing Sonar. To minimize their environmental footprint and uphold the brand's commitment to sustainability, the ships have tier III Nox rated Rolls Royce engines and can connect to shore power minimizing port emissions. In addition, the ships have advanced wastewater treatment systems that meet all global standards. Every aspect of their design reflects the company's ongoing commitment to preserving the environment while providing unforgettable experiences to travelers.

Andrew N. Todd , President & CEO of parent company Xanterra Travel Collection said, "As part of our company's expanding portfolio, Windstar Cruises is poised for remarkable growth and an exciting future ahead. We're excited about the possibilities of where Windstar will sail and the opportunities it brings our officers, crew and staff, and our guests."

The expansion also allows Windstar to bring back one of its beloved Wind Class ships, Wind Star , to Tahiti, where it will join Star Breeze in 2027, adding more capacity to meet the growing demand for French Polynesian sailings. With more than 36 years' experience operating cruises in French Polynesia and a longtime guest favorite, travelers will now have a choice between sailing among the islands on a Wind or Star Class ship.

Full itineraries and booking details for Star Seeker will be announced in late June 2024 .

How many airports are there in Moscow, what are they called?

2024 Author : Harold Hamphrey | [email protected] . Last modified: 2023-12-17 10:06

Moscow is one of the megacities of the world. Every day a lot of people come to the capital of Russia. So how many airports are there in Moscow? The three main terminals are in the greatest demand: Domodedovo, Vnukovo and Sheremetyevo. But there are also less popular ones.

How many airports are there in Moscow? A lot of them. Some relate directly to the capital, while others - to the Moscow region. One of the largest airports even at the level of Europe is Sheremetyevo. It is located just 29.7 km from the center of the capital. The nearest settlements are Lobnya and Khimki.

how many airports are there in moscow

Sheremetyevo Airport is one of the main airports in the country and consists of six terminals for passengers:

  • A - for businessmen;
  • B - a very old dismantled terminal, a new one is being built in its place;
  • C - being reconstructed, plans are to connect it with B to create a single complex;
  • D - designed for domestic and international flights;
  • E - carries out flights of companies included in SkyTearm and all flights in Aeroflot;
  • F - intended for the companyRoyal Flight.

The last three terminals in the list make up the ETK. This is a single complex with the Aeroexpress station. This is very convenient for passengers, as they get the opportunity to move freely around all three terminals. Sheremetyevo Airport is not divided into "1" and "2", as there is an erroneous opinion. This is a single complex that simply combines two airport terminals.

How many Domodedovo airports are there in Moscow? To date, he is the only one. Moreover, takeoffs and landings can be carried out simultaneously only in Domodedovo. The airport is located 22 kilometers from the Moscow Ring Road and 45 kilometers from Moscow. Domodedovo has two long, parallel runways.

how many domodedovo airports are in moscow

The airport has a special check-in system - by islands. There are seven of them in the terminal. Four of them have 22 sections, three - 20 each and 4 more for luggage. Domodedovo has the only passenger terminal.

How many Vnukovo airports are there in Moscow? It is also one of the largest airport terminals, and the oldest of all currently operating. Vnukovo is located 10 kilometers from the Moscow Ring Road. The airport is a complex of three terminals, which are called "1", "2" and "3".

Vnukovo-1 consists of three terminals: A, B and D. The last two are connected by a footpath. The first terminal serves international and domestic flights. Terminal B has not been operating since 2016, and all flights that were carried out through it have been transferred to A. Terminal D is intended onlyfor screening passengers of some Russian regions.

How many Vnukovo airports are in Moscow

Vnukovo-2 is used only for flights of the President, the top leadership of Russia and high-ranking foreign representatives. Vnukovo-3 receives and departs flights from the Moscow government, businessmen and Roskosmos aviation.

Let's take a closer look at how many airports there are in Moscow and their names. In addition to the three main ones listed above, there are less well-known ones. For example, Zhukovsky, located at the Ramenskoye airfield. Therefore, the airport received a double name. Zhukovsky-Ramenskoye is located 36 kilometers from the capital of Russia. The airport is used for certain passenger flights, including flights of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. The airport terminal has one terminal.

How many airports are there in Moscow? Another fairly well-known one is Bykovo. It is located near the city of Zhukovsky. The airfield does not carry out passenger flights, but is used for landing helicopters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Ostafyevo was built in 1934. It is located near South Butovo. The airfield was intended for the NKVD. In Soviet times, it was used by the military. Since 2000, after reconstruction, it has become civil and now accepts passenger flights. The airfield has one terminal.

how many airports are there in moscow and their names

How many airports are there in Moscow? One of them is Chkalovsky, built in 1930. It is located 31 kilometers from Moscow, near the city of Shchelkovo. The airfield accepts An-124, Tu-154 andIL-62. Chkalovsky is intended for the military. At the moment, the airport serves a special purpose division.

Myachkovo is located in the Ramensky district. The airport is located 16 kilometers from the Moscow Ring Road and 1 km from the village of Upper Myachkovo. The airfield was civilian until 2009. Then acquired the status of sports. It is now used as a landing area for small government aircraft and helicopters. There are two flying clubs on the territory of Myachkovo. They carry out aircraft maintenance and refueling. A medical examination of pilots is also carried out at the airport.
