Wessel van der Walt Hunting Outfitter & Professional Hunter
My passion for hunting in this beautiful bushveld and its wildlife began with my father, "Barefoot Teunis," a farmer and an exceptional hunter, my idol, living on the edge of the Springbok Flats near Tuinplaas, Limpopo.
My father is a phenomenal stalker in the bush because he never wears shoes; his feet are as tough as elephant hide, allowing him to move soundlessly through the veld. One of my favorite hunting stories involves him stalking and ultimately shooting an elusive big male leopard that had been killing our cattle and calves for months.
The first time my father took me hunting was in the summer of 1998 on the farm Mackenzie. We stalked bush pigs feasting in our corn fields, as these creatures are notorious destroyers of South African corn fields. During the stalk, "Barefoot" stopped me and whispered softly, "Make ready." He placed the rifle on his shoulder and instructed me, "Take him when you are ready." I took the shot and killed my first bush pig at the age of 5, a truly memorable day with my father that set me on the path to my professional hunter and outfitter career.
In 2014, I met my wife, Mellissa, and fell head over heels for her. She is a skilled huntress and fishing enthusiast, perfectly aligned with my line of work. "Love her very much." In 2015, she assisted me in building and developing our game farm and hunting camp. We established our hunting business, Witkop Hunting Safaris, in 2016, fulfilling our dream and passion every day. While we began by hunting with South African biltong hunters, our big dream was about to come true: welcoming clientele from all over the world to hunt and experience South Africa and all nature can offer on our farm, Witkop Hunting Safaris. It is the final piece of the puzzle.
We are looking forward to meet you, and become friends to guide you through your dream hunting adventure.
