5 Best Barkada Trips in the Philippines
written on June 21st, 2017 by Kristiana Rule
There are trips that are meant to be taken alone and there are those that are meant to be taken with friends. These are the destinations where you should bring your friends with you. You could go alone, but it wouldn’t be as fun and it would cost a lot.
Here are 5 of the best adventures you can have with your crew.
Family and friends came to hike @masungigeoreserve. Thank you for the hospitality again! A post shared by Carlo Delantar (@carlodelantar) on May 3, 2017 at 3:06am PDT
This destination has been making its rounds all over social media and it’s absolutely gorgeous. If you and your friends love adventure, then this georeserve located in the mountains of Rizal is for you. Take on their Discovery Trail and re-energize yourself with nature’s beauty. The sprawling conservation area features rock formations, peaks and stunning views of the surrounding natural wonders. Literally hang out at their hanging bridge, or take barkada photos at the famous Sapot— a web-like structure— all within the park.
Biggest inflatable playground in Asia! 😄😄 I’m giving away FREE PASSES to Inflatable Island! Link on bio. 😉 A post shared by Trick Ramos (@tricksterzph) on May 20, 2017 at 5:07am PDT
Dubbed as the biggest floating playground in Asia, Inflatable Island is your childhood fantasy come to life. This massive inflatable playground is located just off of Samba beach in Olongapo. Come with your entire barkada and have a day of splashing, sliding and getting wiped out of their floating playground, just like you would in those crazy obstacle courses you see on TV. There’s giant slides, slippery bridges and trampolines that both kids and kids at heart can enjoy.
Mt Pinatubo Trail
Take on one of the country’s best vistas with your barkada. Mt Pinatubo and its surrounding area is starkly stunning and oddly eerie in some parts. You’ll traverse the moon-like terrain of Crow Valley on a 4×4 en route to the hike to Crater Lake. The volcanic crater itself is clear blue, flanked by peaks all around. The whole guided trek would cost a small fortune when done alone, so better grab your friends to take on the trail with you and enjoy this adventure together.
Sinulog Festival
Do you guys love culture and parties? You really don’t have to choose between the two. Just come to Cebu on the 3 rd Sunday of January and all your vacation needs will be solved by the Sinulog festival. This is the country’s biggest street party and cultural celebration all rolled into one. You can pray and join the novena and religious procession celebrating the Sto. Nino, or join the revelry in the streets and shout Pit Senyor along with the locals and tourists who flock the Queen City of the South for this celebration.
Negros Oriental’s treasure is best shared with your friends. Head on out to Apo Island for the best ocean adventure and swim with the sea turtles that are found in the area. Boat and guide fees can also cost you if you’re traveling solo, so better travel with the barkada to divvy up the cost. Once you’re there you can enjoy the wonderful scenery and rock formations, the beautiful beach and of course the sea turtles!

Awesome Ideas for Summer Barkada Trips
Table of Contents
Summer is the time when the climate gets so hot and humid, and you don’t want to move at all because every move you make makes you perspire, and you don’t want to go outside because the sun is scorching hot, and you don’t want to talk to anyone because the air feels heavy, and you don’t… Enough! Don’t let this year’s summer heat ruin your vacation! Shake off some of that heat by moving. Wipe off your sweat with a towel. Hydrate yourself with lots of water. Outshine the scorching sun with your smile. And go do all of these Summer Barkada Trips with your friends.
Summer is not the time to laze around; it’s the time to explore the country with your barkada ! Summer is hot, so chill out with your tropa ! Here are 10 excellent ideas for your summer barkada trip:
1. Dance, eat, and make friends in Liliw, Laguna
Come to Liliw, Laguna, this summer and celebrate Liliw’s Gat Tayaw Festival, more popular as the Tsinelas Festival. Witness the locals’ creative twists to the pair of tsinelas we all know, and see how they transform these ordinary objects into costumes, ornaments, and even floats! Oh, and did I mention that there are food stalls everywhere too?
There aren’t any announcements for this year’s Tsinelas festival schedule yet, but it’s most likely to occur this April. Make sure to keep an eye out for that.
2. Test your hiking skills at Mt. Pulag
Tired of walking? Why not go hiking for a change? Come to Mt. Pulag this summer with your friends, and trek the third-highest mountain in the Philippines. When you reach the top, you’ll probably just see clouds and dots of trees and rocks below, but the view above isn’t what matters. It’s the climb . (But, who are you kidding? The peak will probably be the best spot to take a groufie!)
You and your friends may choose to book tours, or if you want to explore by yourselves, you can request permission from DENR to do so.
3. Shoot paint at your wacky friends in Global Gutz Paintball
Are you and your friends gaga for military-themed or first-person-shooting games? Then you’ll be stoked to know that you can bring to life your fandom by hanging out at Global Gutz Paintball in Taguig. Hide behind barricades, and walls, and shoot like crazy with your paintball gun. Get colorful! Do you have the Gutz?
4. Get lost in La Mesa Ecopark
Who said summers have to be hot? Chill out, go sightseeing, walk around, or simply appreciate nature here at La Mesa Ecopark in Quezon City. Be surrounded by cool, lush greeneries and fresh air. Going here doesn’t require much energy; you just have to unwind.
(Tip: Bring your own bike here and bike all you want around this green paradise.)
5. Ride on a horse like a kid at Wright Park
Who doesn’t love horses? They’re vegetarians, furry, friendly, and neigh neigh too, waaaay before Silentó did.
Take pictures with the horses, or ride on one of them and gallop through the rest of Wright Park (which is full of trees, almost like a forest) like a prince charming looking for love. Or just take a selfie with your friends.
(Tip: After Wright Park, you can bid your neighing friend goodbye and shuffle along to The Mansion. It’s just a few minute’s walk away.)
6. Soak in Los Baños’ hot springs
Do you know an excellent way to spend your humid summer nights? Soak in a hot spring with your friends under the night sky while talking about random things. Afterwards, get a nice, tall, ice-cold lemonade or apple tea. Then sleep soundly in one of the nearby resorts you can book a room. And do it again the next night after a long day.
Let the hot water take your worries and stresses away, and laugh all your problems off with your friends.
7. Grab a freshly-grilled milkfish at Dagupan City’s Bangus Festival
Dagupan City is known as the “Bangus Capital of the World”. As such, it is only normal to celebrate the city’s best produce, right?
Come to Dagupan City in time for the annual Bangus Festival (usually in April; there are no announcements yet) and see colorful street parades, live band performances, and kilometers of grillers grilling bangus . Buy your own fish to grill or simply hang out and get one cooked for you. There’s an abundance of other seafood in this seaside city, too, so you and your friends have plenty to choose from.
8. Ride all you can at Star City
Who said only the kids can ride?
Drag your friends to Star City, buy ride-all-you-can tickets, and watch as your worlds twist, turn, and flip upside down (just make sure not to eat heavy meals before this). Conveniently, Star City will offer a promo that you can’t say no to—wear a red shirt on Valentine’s Day and get 50% off ride-all-you-can tickets. Ride all you can? Yes, please.
9. Time travel at Corregidor Island
If you and your friends are tired of bustling city life, come unwind here at Corregidor Island. Wander around one of the most war-stricken places in the historical Philippines, and see how time froze in ruins, ancient buildings, and historical landmarks like the Malinta Tunnel.
(Tip: Make your trip here more fun by testing your courage—go ghost-busting with your friends. There are rumors of ghost sightings here, especially in Malinta Tunnel!)
10. Find a quiet spot in one of the waterfalls in Maragondon, Cavite
There are four waterfalls in the rustic town of Maragondon, Cavite. There’s Kaybiang Falls, Pico de Loro Falls, Balayungan Falls, and Ragatan Falls. Soak in the cool waters or just sit by the falls and listen to the wonderful sound of water crashing on the rocks and flowing calmly to the stream.
If you get bored doing so (which is highly unlikely), you can visit Maragondon’s other wonders of nature, which include humorously-named mountain peaks, the heavenly Carabao Island, or buy some of this town’s colorful fresh produce being sold cheaply at the markets.

Hit the road: 4 destinations for your family and barkada

MANILA, Philippines – Who says that you need to go jet-setting just to find some adventure?
From singing songs to shouting “are we there yet?” from the back seat, a long road trip is a great opportunity to bond with your family or friends. Planned right, they’re also short enough to squeeze in over a weekend. In just a few hours, you can soak in the wonders of a whole new place without ever taking off from the ground.
For the perfect road trip, you can’t risk bringing a car that might break down on the first stop. Your vehicle needs to stand tough against the forces of nature while still keeping you and your passengers comfortable.
Whether you choose to go with your family or with your crew, a sports utility vehicle (SUV) loaded with the right features can carry you across whatever road you choose (READ: Adventure trek: Top 4 challenging routes for your SUV ).
Check out the slideshow below for some road trip tips and ideas you can plan over a weekend. Remember, the important thing isn’t just to get there and back; it’s also to have some fun and get away, even for just a short time. – Rappler.com
Before you hit the open road, get a mechanic to help make sure that your car is in proper working order. This check should include :
- Steering alignment + tire pressure
- Fluids – oil, coolant, washer, transmission
- Lights – headlights and brake lights
- Condition of the brakes

Now that your vehicle is ready, the next step is to pack these essential items before you leave the house:
- Food and water
- Survival kit – flashlight, extra batteries, tow rope for your car
- Tools – basic tool kit , tire jack + iron, tire gauge, roadside warning device
- Navigation – maps, GPS, mobile apps
- Fully-inflated spare tire
- First aid kit
- Phone charger
Looking to cool off from the hot city climate? Then you might want to check out the crisp mountain ranges of Benguet, roughly 6 hours north of Manila.
Things to do:
- For your crew: take a day-hike up Mount Timbak
- For kids: meet an animatronic T-Rex at Dinosaurs Island
- For the whole family: spend a relaxing day strawberry picking at La Trinidad
For your SUV:
A hill start assist feature will help you make the climb up safely and with ease, even with full cargo.

In the opposite direction of Benguet is the Bicol Region, which is made up of six different provinces. The seaside region is one of the most popular tourist hubs in the country and sits around 9 hours south of the metro.
- For your crew: ride an all-terrain vehicle along the lava wall of Mount Mayon
- For kids: go on a “zoofari” adventure at Haciendas De Naga
- For the whole family: spend a relaxing night on the beach at Paguriran Island
For long and tiring highway drives, a lane keeping system feature in your SUV will keep your car safely in line.

A fun road trip doesn’t have to stretch on forever. In just under two hours, you can take a day trip from Bacolod to Cadiz City. This small town is a hidden road-trip gem nestled in the heart of Negros Island.
- For your crew: jump into the cool waters at Pacol Waterfalls
- For the kids: play with some flight-ful friends at the Balay Alibangbang butterfly farm
- For the whole family: Soak up some sun at Lakawon Island just off the shore.
You’ll want to pack some extra gear if your day trip turns into an overnight stay. Ample storage space in your SUV is always ideal.
Photos by Jessa Jacinto/Beach and Everything Nice and Nonoy Oplas/Travel Pinoy .
Along the nearly 5-hour stretch of Sayre Highway , you can travel from Davao City to exciting Cagayan De Oro. Known as “the city of golden friendship” , this region is home to exciting activities for all ages.
- For your crew: ride the rapids in one of the region’s many white water rafting spots
- For the kids: observe animals in their natural habitat at Mapawa Nature Park
- For the whole family: have a meal and soak in the scenery at Malasag Eco-Tourism Village and Gardens
For drives like these where fluctuations in speed and traffic can be an issue, an adaptive cruise control system will automatically adjust your speed to maintain a safe distance from other cars.

While the All-New Ford Everest is fit to tackle any off-road challenge, it also offers a comfortable ride and enough safety features to keep you and your passengers safe on your next road trip.

Where to Spend Your Next Barkada Trip in the Philippines This Rainy Season
The season for typhoons might not be the best time for a getaway with the entire barkada but a dreary weather should not stop you from exploring each of the 7,500+ islands in the Philippines. In fact, we highly recommend you to pack your bags right now — here are some of most thrilling adventures and relaxing escapades that you can try this rainy season.
Also read: Top Destinations in the Philippines to Visit Even During the Rainy Season
Cagayan de Oro
When it comes to white water rafting, Cagayan de Oro is always the first thing that comes to mind. And what better way to test the rapids (literally) than spend it with your favourite travel buddies? Teamwork and properly following instructions are keys to make sure no one gets toppled over; although, that might also add a little more excitement to the whole adventure.
And, while you are in CDO, don’t forget to get your fill of unlimited mangosteens, durian and lanzones!
South Cotabato
We have probably all pictured Mindanao as a messy and chaotic place but it actually is not. In fact, when you head to South Cotabato where Lake Sebu is located, you’ll realise that it is actually just a quiet little town that offers beautiful and unspoilt landscapes. Located at an elevation of 1,000 metres, it is definitely one of the best places to get away from the hustle and bustle (and heat) of city life.
Siargao Island
The eastern portion of the country is one of the best places to go to during the rainy season if you love water and waves. The rainy season is often paired with strong gusts of wind, the main ingredient to make those perfect barrel waves that you and your barkada have probably been waiting for all-year round. And, there is no doubt about it, Siargao Island is the country’s surfing capital.

Davao Oriental
Then again, if you and your travel buddies are looking for tamer waves (they’re still quite strong on normal days, actually), then head to a less crowded surfing destination in the south: Dahican Beach in Mati City, Davao Oriental. The place is perfect for beginner surfers looking for a balance between mild and challenging waves. Plus, you don’t have to worry so much about where you end up because the long coastline is nothing but fine white sand.
Negros Occidental
There is obviously no better way to spend a getaway with friends during the rainy season than doing it soaked in soothing hot water. The Mambukal Hot Spring, officially called the Warm Sulfur Dipping Pool, is the most famous hot spring in Negros Occidental. You can pair your bath with a nice bowl of halo-halo , found just within the resort. Or you can wait out until the cold rain comes pouring; the combination of hot and cold is surprisingly refreshing!
Camarines Sur
Rain + wakeboard + group of friends = ultimate adventure! Another great place to go this rainy season is the Camarines Sur Water Sports Complex. Here, you do not have to worry about huge waves swallowing you because the rain won’t affect the lake. It will actually make the experience more fun for everyone! Take turns trying out your skills in wakeboarding and make a fool of yourselves. Who else would you allow to laugh at you each time you fall off your board?
Happening every third week of October, the Lanzones Festival is the biggest event in Camiguin held to celebrate a bountiful harvest. But, if you can’t make it in time for the festival, you can also just explore the whole island as there are lots of things you can do even during the rainy season. You can take a dip at the 250-foot Katibawasan Falls or just hang out at Mantigue Island or White Island (both beautiful even in gloomy weather). You can also head on to Ardent Hot Spring or climb your way to the top of Mt. Hibok-Hibok.

See? Just because it’s raining buckets doesn’t mean the fun should stop. It only means the fun will come in a different form!

Drawing 101: 8 Lines That Say ‘Hindi Matutuloy Barkada Trip Niyo’
- Posted on May 17, 2023 May 17, 2023
- 3 minute read
- Edgardo Toledo
May 17, 2023   •   Edgardo Toledo
We’ve all experienced this cautionary tale: you and your barkada get all excited for a trip to the beach/mountains/etc., but after weeks/months/years of planning, nothing happens. Sometimes you can’t help but wonder why even bother planning these things, right?
From last-minute cancellations and seen-zoned chats to empty promises, here are some lines that suggest your barkada trip is about as likely to happen as a pink fairy unicorn sighting.
1. “I’ll try”
Actually, what your friend is trying to say is they have no plans of joining the barkada trip, and they’re still thinking of a good excuse that won’t hurt your feelings. Just keep your ears peeled for more creative explanations.
2. The busy bee
We all have that good friend who always seems to get in the way of our fun-filled plans, thanks to countless deadlines they’re dealing with. If you want your buddy on board for this epic adventure, you gotta roll up your sleeves and start helping them chug through that endless pile of work. Who knows, they may thank you by paying for your food and accommodation.
3. The sneaky flake
Your friend wants to know the dates so they can either have time to save up some cash or know when to disappear into thin air. Don’t worry, your friend’s adventurous self is still there somewhere, buried deep in the abyss of flakiness.
4. The guest list checker
You best believe that once your friend asks this question, you better have confirmed names of who’ll join the trip because if you don’t, their chances of saying “yes” is as likely as a polar bear surviving in the Sahara.
Please Po, Tita: How to Convince Your Friend’s Strict Parents to Let Them Go on a Barkada Trip Please Po, Tita: How to Convince Your Friend’s Strict Parents to Let Them Go on a Barkada Trip Kyzia Maramara | Apr 05, 2022
5. The homebuddy
Ah, the classic “ ang layo naman ” excuse. Although it’s true in most cases, some still say this even if the destination is only an hour or two away. Maybe it’s time to start planning vacations on their doorstep so they have no excuse but to join in on the fun.
6. The unbeliever
The most nerve-wracking part of planning a trip is asking your friends if they’re in. But sometimes, instead of a straightforward “yes” or “no,” they hit you with a classic line, “Tuloy ba?” that’s often loaded with a million possibilities and meanings. Are they in? Is it a subtle shrug? Rumor has it that even researchers have no concrete explanation of what this question actually means.
7. The non-stop reschedule
One of the realities of adulting is you can’t just grab your friend to join you on your travels because schedule conflict is a thing, and people get busy. Yes, even if you bribe them with an all-expenses-paid trip! So, you end up rescheduling and rescheduling until your vacation plans become a distant memory.
8. *Biglang hindi na nagre-reply sa chat*
Well, it looks like no one will ever know if they still want to join because they vanished from the Internet. Did they get sucked into a black hole? Did they lose an internet connection? It looks like we have a modern-day mystery on our hands.
Do you know any other hilarious no-show on the barkada getaway excuse?
Check us out on Facebook , Instagram , Twitter , TikTok and YouTube , to be the first to know about the latest news and coolest trends!
