THE GOOD THINGS FESTIVAL 2023 HUGE LINE-UP IS HERE

  • Greg Phillips
  • August 15, 2023

behemoth tour 2023 sydney

We interrupt your regular viewing to announce that Good Things season is upon us – and if you thought 2022 was huge, that’s not all folks! Australia’s largest and favourite travelling music festival, Good Things Festival, returns this December with a bumper line-up set to descend on the east coast, bringing a horde of new and iconic faves from Australia and around the globe together for nothing but a good time.

Leading the pack for Good Things Festival 2023 will be none other than American rock idols FALL OUT BOY. From dominating your Myspace era to becoming one of rock’s biggest-selling bands, FALL OUT BOY have proven time and time again that their sweltering legacy is definitely not a phase, with their latest 2023 album So Much (For) Stardust marking the band’s seventh consecutive top-ten charting album. Armed with a career to date that spans Billboard #1 debuts, gracing the cover of Rolling Stone, sold out stadium runs playing to over 1 million fans and multiple Grammy Award nominations, a FALL OUT BOY live experience is guaranteed to be explosive, enigmatic and packed full sentimental delights as well as fresh cuts.

Whether you’re a Dad Vibes stan or have been rollin’ since day one, Good Things Festival are also bringing in Florida heavies LIMP BIZKIT to keep the party rockin’ this December. One of the most influential acts of the nu metal era, LIMP BIZKIT have garnered three Grammy Award nominations alongside their timeless angst and genre-straddling prowess that brought rap metal to the masses; a fact that continues colourfully to this day. And from breaking stuff to whipping it, American new wave legends DEVO will also take the Good Things Festival stages later this year for their last-ever Australian appearances as part of The Farewell Tour Celebrating 50 Years. The ultimate meeting point for rock and electronic fusion, DEVO’s impact on the alternative music landscape is as revered as their tongue-in-cheek charm, and you absolutely won’t want to miss the final bucket list chance to catch the group live in action on our shores this December.

Also locked and loaded to return to down under, post-hardcore Grammy-nominated heroes I PREVAIL will be bringing the arena vibes, continuing their meteoric rise that has spanned their decade-long career. Hailed as being one of rock’s biggest breakthrough bands, I PREVAIL’s might has only intensified of late with the release of their 2022 album True Power. And speaking of might, Welsh metal outfit BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE have got you covered, with their explosive and infectious blend of heavy metal, metalcore and beyond set to collide into beautiful chaos across the east coast of Australia, while Slipknot frontman COREY TAYLOR gears up to keep the party firing on all cylinders, bringing his solo adventures to Australia alongside his brand-new album CMF2.

Flying the flag for all things raucous, Golden State staples PENNYWISE will flex their fiery flair, with the iconic California punk rockers heading our way yet again after a monstrous headline run in 2022. And also repping the punk at Good Things Festival this year will be none other than the ARIA Award-winning stylings of thrash pop mainstays SPIDERBAIT; three friends from a small country town who took the industry by storm decades ago, and have snagged nearly every accolade in existence on the Australian music scene.

Speaking of Aussies, beloved indie rockers SLOWLY SLOWLY will be ready to delight this December with their anthemic melodics and colourful pop and armed with their buoyant 2022 album Daisy Chain which snagged triple j’s feature album upon release. Meanwhile, British electronic rockers ENTER SHIKARI will be packing their dynamic wares to wow the crowds wielding their seventh full-length album, the #1 charting A Kiss for the Whole World.

The relentless fury of Poland metallers BEHEMOTH will be primed to blow the festivities into a whole new stratosphere when the group make their eagerly anticipated return down under. A band whose creative innovation is as revered as their jagged dynamics, BEHEMOTH’s live show is renowned for its power, as is the sweltering live reputation of influential groove merchants SEPULTURA who will return to Australia this December all the way from Brazil.

Also letting the good vibes roll this December, prolific indie rockers TAKING BACK SUNDAY will hit our shores armed with hooks, odes to heartbreak and their notorious live potency, alongside the enigmatic electropop stylings of the chameleonic PVRIS guaranteed to bring all of the captivating feels to a Good Things Festival stage near you.

But just when you thought that was as good as it gets, in keeping with Good Things Festival 2023’s nod to some of our most beloved icons, the gamut of Australian alternative rock will also be celebrated in brilliant fashion by some of the most formative names in the game, including the chart-topping, multi-time ARIA Award-winning rockers ESKIMO JOE, as well as the band who nearly broke the airwaves with their irresistible rockin’ earworms in the 90s: JEBEDIAH.

Continuing the Aussie flavour at Good Things Festival this year, you’ll never have so much fun as you do copping punk rock rapscallions FRENZAL RHOMB live in action, with the Sydney group lined up alongside quintessential Central Coast pop punks SHORT STACK and charismatic Melbourne mainstays BOOM CRASH OPERA to lather you in all the fun and punk-tastic earworms you can handle. And continuing a huge year of touring and releasing new music, Tassie rockers LUCA BRASI are ready to dazzle with their emphatic rock wares, as are symphonic metal dynamos MAKE THEM SUFFER, Sydney melodic hardcore outfit BLOOM and Melbourne post hardcore powerhouses TAPESTRY.

For lovers of metalcore and its surrounds, clear your schedule and get pumped for the J-pop-soaked riffs and breakdowns from Japan’s HANABIE, as well as the cathartic yet towering potency of Ohio quartet THE PLOT IN YOU, the lush brutality of British melodic heavy-hitters WHILE SHE SLEEPS, and the pummeling force of Australia’s very own OCEAN SLEEPER. And from riff city to delicious brutality, Russian deathcore titans SLAUGHTER TO PREVAIL are ready, willing, and gleefully able to lure you into the mosh.

And that’s still not all! Whether you need a hit of buoyant punk, glossy alt pop or both; good news, you don’t have to choose because Florida rockers MAGNOLIA PARK and solo sensation ROYAL & THE SERPENT will both be in your Good Things Festival future in 2023, with Sydney pop punks STAND ATLANTIC also locked in to stupefy later this year with a heap of new tunes in tow.

Behemoth is a blackened death metal band that formed in 1991 in Gdansk, in Poland. The band consists of Adam ‘Nergal’ Darski, Zbigniew ‘Inferno’ PromiƄski and Tomasz ‘Orion’ Wróblewski.

Behemoth takes its name from the biblical beast, suggesting immediately the type of style its founders were going for. The band formed in 1991 with Nergal being the only original member to still be in the current line-up of the band. With Nergal on the guitar and lead vocals, the other two original members consisted of Adam ‘Baal Ravenlock’ Muraszko on drums and Adam ‘Desecrator’ Malinowski on the guitar and bass. The band started by recording demos in the early 90s, which gained little attention anywhere outside the Polish underground metal scene. They began to tour during this period, but failed to gain a large fan base due to bad promotion.

The band’s fifth album saw their real rise to fame as a headlining tour soon followed. The album, titled ‘Thelema.6’ marked the band’s real move towards blackened death metal. The album showed off the band’s precise and impressive guitar parts and drumming and was heavily supported by the press and media. With the major success of this album, the band was able to play at a number of prestigious live events like Wacken Open Air, With Full Force, Inferno Metal Festival, Mystic Festival, and Mind Over Matter Autumn, all of which helped them to increase their fan base.

With ten albums to their name as of 2014, hit singles such as ‘Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel’ and ‘Decade of Therion’ and a number of nominations, and one win, from the Polish Fryderyk Awards, the band has built quite a following for itself.

Live reviews

Behemoth great as always, The Wiltern venue in LA... much less great. Floor/mosh pit not general admission?? Got stuck around a TRUCK LOAD of hipsters and I could only see around an average of 15-20% of the stage for the bulk of the concert. If social media is a higher priority than watching a concert and you understand the intricate and varied nuances of mustache/beard waxes... The Wiltern in LA is probably a great place for you. Behemoth's stage presence has improved every show I've been to and this was easily my favorite setlist in the 7yrs since i found Behemoth but I easily had more fun last year with their 6 song setlists when they were opening for Slayer just do to other venues having more natural means to let the various types of fans find each other as they filter through a venue (I've been going to metal shows for 18yrs and this is the first time I've been surprised where you could or couldn't go with general admission). Great show... and I'm sure upwards of 40-50% of general admission purchasers got to see it properly. If you were there and got a good spot then good for you, you'll have more room next time because I won't ever pay for a metal show at The Wiltern again.

Third time I’ve had the great pleasure of seeing this truly amazing band and they did not disappoint. With every tour the quality of the production gets better and better - apparently there was a restriction on using actual flames at The Forum last night but there was plenty other forms of smoke and pyromania to add to the atmosphere, as well as very cool visual set-pieces and costume changes.

They ploughed through a good chunk of their classics and cuts from the new album that fans were hoping for such as ‘God = Dog’, ‘Ecclesia Diabolica Catholica’ and ‘Bartzabel’. ‘Daimonos’ from 2009’s Evangelion was also a nice surprise and as always, they closed out with an incredible finale.

What else is there to say that many others haven’t already? A vital, life-affirming performance from a vital, life-affirming band that any self-respecting metal fan should make a point of seeing at least once.

As a brief aside, At The Gates made for a superb main support, their material speaks for itself and they had the crowd in the palm of their hand like it was 1996 all over again. Wolves In The Throne Room also showed enough to merit checking them out further.

Behemoth is a black metal band anti church band., so they come out clad in Gothic leather or battle regalia and have their faces painted white and black with unique patterns. They come out flames ablaze on the stage with awesome pyros, massive drum set and their ambiance is overpowering. The stage is simple with the band banners and some art work.

During the sets the crowd goes wild, chants, sings, moshes. People get trampled over during some of the moshes. I mostly go for the music because I do not care to get hurt, but the one concert I went too they brought out "fake blood" and sprayed the crowd which was pretty unique and neat. The feed on the crowds energy and so does the crowd.

During each song intermission they will scream at the crowd, give them some background information or tell them to get ready for the mosh, this usually gets the masses riled up and makes them charge at each other like animals. Most of the lyrics and singing are guttural screamings so you actually need to enjoy this type of music to be able to understand it.

The show they put on is amazing for small venue, i am sure the bigger venues for them include more theatrics and better props

First off....

I would have never even known Behemoth was coming to Denver without SongKick. Good job.

Second off....

I've never seen them before in concert.

A friend and I snagged tickets for their show at the gothic theater.

This happens to be my friends favorite band too...

The concert itself was pretty good.

The opening band was a folk style death metal band from overseas...

Damn could that girl sing.. Amazing voice.

The crowd went absolutely crazy when Behemoth came out.

I've never seen anything like it.

You could tell the band and the fans were having a good time.

Their encore was great.

They said they were going to do one more song & that turned into 5 more songs.

I would definitely recommend anyone & everyone to go see these guys live.

I'm not a big death metal fan but these guys put on a great show.

I'd definitely see them again.

Hail the light !

Hail Illuminati.

Somehow I had never seen Behemoth live before now. They are not only superb musicians, but performers, as well. The music completely ripped and the show was quite a spectacle. Attendance was great and everyone was clearly really into it. You should go if you get a chance to see them. At The Gates opened and really warmed the crowd up good. It was immediately apparent that they've been doing this for a while. Very tight set. Either band could have just as easily been the headliner.

I love watching Behemoth but that was the first time I've seen them as an opening act. Pretty straightforward, the only new things were Nergal breaking out a megaphone and Orion's new goatee since last I saw them gave a little more stage presence. Other than that, being limited to 7 songs made it feel a little hurried in between them. Pretty decent set list for me, but that's always subjective so it could be better or worse depending on your favorites.

Absolutely the best show I've seen in a long time. At the Gates were engaging and put on a terrific show, while Wolves in the Throne Room did well for what they do.

However, it was Behemoth who blew me away. Specifically, Nergal, whose intensity was utterly infectious. They played a great selection of tracks from various albums, and sounded amazingly close to the studio recordings. I would most definitely travel to see Behemoth again.

I attended this show especially to see Behemoth and Slayer. All the bands were good but Behemoth kicked ass. They had a very short set which disappointed me, but I'm hoping they return. I wondered how it would go, with the temp's close to 100, but they didn't disappoint. The high point of their set was when they done, O Father O Satan O Sun. They absolutely killed it. Very few bands can pull off corpse paint in the light and temps so high.

Behemoth Vocalist Nergal Teases Potential Australian Dates For Later This Year

More Behemoth

Polish extreme metallers Behemoth  could return to Australia later this year for the first time since March 2019, vocalist Adam  “ Nergal ”  Darski  teased on Instagram yesterday (5 July).

Sharing two screenshots of the news about Australia legalising psychedelics to treat mental health conditions , Nergal wrote, “Finally some GOOD news World. Thank u land of kangaroo and [Australian horror/death metal band] Portal  for igniting an enlightening course for the rest of the globe
.”

But it’s what he wrote at the end of that caption that fired up Kill Your Stereo : “Now I honestly can’t wait to tour there later this year.”

Will Behemoth join the expansive list of November tours, including Devin Townsend , Paramore , Bloc Party and Interpol , and Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls ? Or October, inviting Ghost ’s Tobias Forge for a special guest spot? Will the metal legends appear at Good Things Festival  in December? Headline tour or festival slot? So many questions that we can’t wait to have answered sooner rather than later.

In September 2022, Behemoth released their 12 th album, Opvs Contra Natvram . The band’s latest musical collection embodies rebellion, individuality and unflinching self-expression shaped by a literary worldview. It also reflects a musical evolution – there's little doubt that Opvs Contra Natvram is Behemoth’s most vital and sophisticated project.

On the band’s mission statement single, Off To War! , Nergal commented, “Militant times bring militant music
we’re increasing the tempo with our new single,  Off To War! - one of my personal favourites from the new record. This song has a killer punk section, one of the greatest BEHEMOTH leads of all time, and a nice extreme metal twist at the end. A true sonic tornado in times of confrontation, enjoy it legions!!”

Don't miss a beat with our FREE daily newsletter

Behemoth are not only the creators of Poland’s extreme metal scene, but they are masters of their craft and showcase what a band can achieve when hard work is put in and by constantly defying expectations set by Polish governments and communities. As with previous studio outings, Opvs Contra Natvram was produced by the band, with mixing by studio legend Joe Barresi ( Nine Inch Nails , Tool , Slipknot , Alice in Chains ).

Nergal has formed a kinship with Ghost vocalist Tobias Forge, with the latter featuring on Under The Spell , a track from Darski’s solo album, New Man, New Songs, Same Shit: Vol. 2,  under the moniker Me And That Man . Nergal has faced trouble in his native Poland numerous times. Last May, he was acquitted of blasphemy charges in his home country in a win against censorship in art.

Forge said about his friend in a recent Kill Your Stereo interview : “Our backgrounds are very similar. We started playing death metal, black metal, that sort of stuff. And then we've both achieved careers within music. He's obviously very entrepreneurial with all of his side ventures, which I’m not really able to match.

"I don't do a whole lot of things that he does, professionally, but in so many ways, we are very similar in what we do and what we value about life and how we value life. At least, in practical philosophical things, I believe that we're similar.”

Stay tuned for updates.

Behemoth Sideshow

Destroy All Lines Presents

Behemoth sideshow, event details.

In the annals of metal there is no band more synonymous with an unswerving commitment to the single-minded defiance of expectation than BEHEMOTH.

We interrupt your regular viewing to announce that Australia’s biggest alternative travelling music festival, aka Good Things Festival  is fast upon us and it's the biggest one yet! We're not kiddin' when we're saying tickets are almost sold out with less than 500 tickets left for Brisbane, Melbourne is almost at 90% sold out and Sydney at 80%.

Good Things come to those who wait and we're thrilled to announce the headline sideshows from some of the artists on the huge  Good Things Festival line up. This is the first and only sideshow announcement and there will be no more sideshows announced. Set your alarm clocks as these tickets won't last.

In the annals of metal there is no band more synonymous with an unswerving commitment to the single-minded defiance of expectation than BEHEMOTH . Over the course of their remarkable 31-year career, these Polish hellraisers – spearheaded by Adam Darski, aka Nergal – are more than just the architects of their country’s legendary extreme metal scene. Over the course of three decades and previous 11 albums, Nergal’s singular vision has forged BEHEMOTH into something far more than a mere black metal band.

Beyond any confines of genre, they have grown to become nothing less than the personification of rebellion, individuality and unflinching self-expression informed by a literate worldview and worldliness that’s resulted in a locking of horns with everything from the mainstream press to the Polish Catholic church – most notably manifesting in Nergal’s trial for blasphemy in 2010 that only served to expose the deep-seated hypocrisies that his music seeks to challenge. It also highlighted the distinct lack of fucks that he has to give.

With special guests Golgothan Remains and Munt.

Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell in "Anyone But You."

Anyone But You finally made its Netflix streaming debut, which is exciting news for rom-com fans everywhere. As you watch the movie, you might be wondering where Anyone But You was filmed and if you can visit the breathtaking beaches, cliffs, and other locations in real life.

Loosely adapted from Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing,” Anyone But You stars Glen Powell as Ben, a finance bro who has an incredible first date with Bea (Sydney Sweeney), a law student uncertain about her career. After spending the night, Bea panics and leaves without telling him. When she realizes she made a mistake and returns to his apartment, she overhears Ben saying that she is a “nothing” to him.

Years later, they unexpectedly reunite at a destination wedding in Australia for Bea’s sister, who is marrying Ben’s friend. When their exes show up, they pretend to be a couple—and the rest is history. The film was directed and co-written by Will Gluck, the filmmaker behind rom-coms like Easy A and Friends with Benefits . It was released in December and had an impressive run at the box office, surpassing $88 million domestically and $219 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo .

After its release, the movie went viral on TikTok as audience goers reacted to the film’s credit sequence, which features the cast dancing and singing to Natasha Bedingfield’s nostalgic 2004 hit “Unwritten,” a song highlighted throughout the film. There were also rumors of an off-screen romance between Powell and Sweeney that helped promote the film, as well as the actors’ flirty publicity tour and Sydney Sweeney’s SNL monologue .

Now, Anyone But You is back in the limelight after the film was released on Netflix on April 23, quickly becoming the No. 1 movie on the platform in the U.S. after just one day.

Microsoft Warns Windows Users Of Ongoing Russian Hack Attack

Apple id password resets are hitting iphone ipad mac users, new ios 18 ai security move changes the game for all iphone users, where was anyone but you filmed.

Anyone But You was filmed in parts of Australia around New South Wales and Sydney. Director Will Gluck told The Hollywood Reporter that he wanted the film set in Sydney because he had “really fallen in love with the city” and liked it so much he moved his family there.

“Almost every time you shoot a movie in Sydney, you have to pretend it’s somewhere else and frame out the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. For Anyone But You , I thought, “Why do that?” We actually wrote this movie 100 percent for Sydney — very specific to the destination,” Gluck wrote.

The director continued, “We flew helicopters all over — seeing the city from that vantage point is stunning — and landed one at the Opera House, shut down the Harbour Bridge, filmed at the Queen Victoria Building, and shot for two weeks overlooking Bondi Beach,” he said. “We spent a week on a boat in Sydney Harbour shooting a scene where they’re stranded on a buoy, but you can’t have humans in the water without a shark cage, so we had to have one the whole time. You pinch yourself. It’s so unbelievable we were actually doing these things.”

Here are a few specific Anyone But You filming locations you can visit in person.

Sydney Opera House

The Sydney Opera House is a focal point in Anyone But You. The 20th-century architectural landmark serves as a gorgeous backdrop for big moments, including the end scene when Ben passionately kisses Bea, who is standing at the top of the steps. You can visit the performing arts center for special events and tours.

Marks Park, Bondi

Located in Sydney's northern suburbs, the wedding scene in Anyone But You was filmed at Marks Park overlooking Bondi Beach and the Pacific Ocean. The cliff-top park is open to the public and has fitness stations, a playground, and some shaded areas.

Many of Anyone But You ’s breathtaking beach scenes were filmed around Palm Beach. Director Will Gluck told THR that one of the best parts of filming was on location in Palm Beach, a suburb in the Northern Beaches.

“Our caravans were parked right on the water, and Glen and Sydney and I decided to live there the whole time. We’d shoot all day and all the crew would go home, then we’d jump in the water and have a swim, go to our trailers and have dinner sitting outside,” he said. “It’s one of the most beautiful places in the world, and you normally wouldn’t be allowed to sleep there. It was probably the most fun I’ve ever had filming.”

Jones Bay Wharf

Jones Bay Wharf in Sydney Harbour's Pyrmont.

The historic Jones Bay Wharf is another familiar filming location in Anyone But You. The hidden gem in the Pyrmont district is home to fine dining restaurants, charming cafes, and beautiful views the of the city and Harbour Bridge.

Queen Victoria Building

Queen Victoria Building in Sydney, Australia.

While on their way to collect flowers for the wedding, Ben and his friend Pete are seen walking alongside the Queen Victoria Building. The Romanesque 19th-century building is actually a five-level shopping center with fashion boutiques, jewelry stores, cafes, and restaurants.

Anyone But You is now streaming on Netflix.
